Qatar Tourism reveals the country's largest-ever international tourism marketing campaign in push to become the fastest-growing tourism destination in the Middle East.

DOHA, Qatar, Nov. 01, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Qatar Tourism has launched a new international multi-media campaign to drive forward the country's tourism goals and cement its ambition to welcome more than six million visitors a year by 2030. The campaign features nine unique, engaging key chain characters designed to introduce travellers to the destination.
Under the tagline, "Experience a World Beyond", Qatar Tourism launched its latest development via a TV-led media campaign, featuring the voice of Indonesian singing sensation, Raisa. Six key chain characters introduce travellers to the variety of experiences that Qatar offers, with a further three friendly local characters representing Qatari tour guides.
The global campaign is inspired by the insight that today, more than ever, international travellers are looking for unique, authentic experiences that create unforgettable memories. Fast-emerging destination Qatar promises to deliver a safe, secure and accessible introduction to the Middle East, blending cosmopolitan modernity with Arabic tradition.
Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: "The country's extensive developments are well underway as we welcome visitors from around the world, with exceptional hospitality at every touchpoint. The launch of the Experience a World Beyond marks a significant point in our journey to establishing ourselves as a world-leading destination and welcoming six million visitors per year by 2030."
The new advertising campaign reflects Qatar's commitment to expanding its tourism proposition, in line with Qatar's National Vision 2030. Qatar has already welcomed over 200,000 in-bound travellers since borders re-opened in July 2021.
A new website launched by Qatar Tourism, www.visitqatar.qa , is now available in five languages and supported by a recently launched Personalised Travel Companion mobile app, designed to showcase the world-leading destination.
Qatar's new tourism strategy puts the visitor at the heart of all new programmes and initiatives and will leverage the peninsula's variety of existing experiences, while capitalising on a wave of new hotels, theme parks, shops and major leisure projects that have recently opened or are set to launch in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 TM .
Qatar is renowned for its warm hospitality and commitment to excellence, exemplified by its award-winning carrier Qatar Airways, which is the only airline to be voted World's Best Airline six times by Skytrax. This is further complemented by the airline's home and hub, Hamad International Airport, which was voted World's Best Airport in 2021 by Skytrax. Qatar has stepped on to the world stage to present itself as an emerging tourism destination courtesy of an international advertising campaign, website and personalized mobile app travel companion.
‘Experience a World Beyond’ sees the Middle Eastern nation target 15 markets through TV, out-of-home (OOH), social and digital channels including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, promoting the Arabian Peninsula as a hub for outdoor activities as seen through the misadventures of six cute CGI keychain critters.
An Arabian oryx, falcon and turtle also serve as local guides – each offering insight into a different aspect of Qatari culture – which have been created by character designer Peter De Sevre and renowned director Hervé de Crecy, in collaboration with Mikros MPC Advertising Paris.
Qatar seeks to shake off a pandemic-related tourism slump to welcome 6 million visitors a year by 2030, a figure which would see the industry contribute 12% of the country’s GDP if attained.
To get there the campaign opens the eyes of frustrated travelers to the hospitality, sights and experiences that await them on the other end of a flight. Promoting authenticity over staged Instagram shots, the campaign highlights a recent report by Numbeo naming Qatar as the world’s safest country to dispel any concerns about travel in the region and issues over dress code .
Berthold Trenkel, chief operating officer of Qatar Tourism, said: “Qatar is a concentrated introduction to the Middle East and offers a world to be discovered, from the hyper-modern to the fascinatingly traditional. Tourists are seeking original travel experiences not just to post on Instagram, but to share with their friends and families, and keep in their own personal memory banks. This film introduces travelers to a destination that is beyond their expectations, beyond their imaginations, beyond their preconceptions and beyond what others can offer.”
The burst of promotional activity dovetails with the impending Fifa World Cup Qatar from November 21 to December 18 2022.

‘Double the Discovery’ campaign launched between Qatar Tourism, Saudi Tourism Authority & Discover Saudi
قطر للسياحة” تدشن حملة “double the discovery” بالتعاون مع “الهيئة السعودية للسياحة” و “اكتشف السعودية”.
A new campaign offers carefully curated packages to spotlight both Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s touristic landscapes
Qatar Tourism, the Saudi Tourism Authority and KSA’s leading DMC Discover Saudi (part of Almosafer) have joined forces to launch the exciting new campaign, ‘Double the Discovery’. This was announced during their participation at ITB Berlin Convention sought to promote tourism in both neighbouring GCC countries, offering international visitors in both countries the chance to explore the rich cultural and historical wonders of Qatar and Saudi Arabia in a single trip.
With carefully curated travel packages, ‘Double the Discovery’ opens up a world of possibilities for travellers’, providing unique and immersive experiences that showcase the diverse landscapes, architectural marvels, and vibrant traditions of both countries.
The award-winning national carrier, Qatar Airways, will serve as the official airline partner of the campaign. Visit Qatar and Visit Saudi will identify the main markets for launching and promoting travel packages through tour operators in each market. Discover Qatar and Discover Saudi are the local DMC partners in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, respectively.
Commenting on the launch of the campaign, H.E Mr. Saad Bin Ali Al Kharji, Chairman of Qatar Tourism said: “Launching the new campaign aims to enhance collaboration among GCC destinations, offering global visitors a rich cultural experience. The goal is to showcase the unique qualities of Arab and GCC culture and increase visitor numbers in alignment with Qatar and Saudi Arabia’s strategic goals.”
His Excellency added: ” The significant growth in tourist numbers in 2023 and hosting 4 million visitors last year demonstrates Qatar’s exceptional tourism offerings across cultural, sports, and recreational activities, as well as top-notch services in transportation, travel, and hospitality sectors.”
Commenting on their participation, Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO and a Member of the Board, Saudi Tourism Authority, said:” Saudi is experiencing phenomenal growth, welcoming more than 20 million inbound visitors in the first three quarters of 2023 compared to 16 million in all of 2022. As the entertainment hub of the middle east, we have a dynamic offer for visitors with an ever-growing calendar of sports, music and cultural events to experience. Partnering in this campaign will make it even easier for visitors to experience more of the culture and heritage that the region has to offer in addition to enjoying the modern and vibrant cities we have to explore.”
Muzzammil Ahussain, CEO of Almosafer added: “We are pleased to partner with Qatar Tourism and the Saudi Tourism Authority through our DMC Discover Saudi, to enhance experiences for visitors coming to the GCC. This initiative will not only drive tourism into the Kingdom, in line with national tourism agenda of Saudi Arabia, but also give travellers the opportunity to explore these two exciting destinations in one visit, whilst experiencing best-in-class services.”
As part of the campaign, extensive city guides will be provided to tourists, offering relevant and detailed information about the top attractions, things to do, shopping venues, and restaurants in both Qatar and Saudi Arabia. These guides aim to assist travellers’ in making the most of their visit and experiencing the best each city has to offer.
In addition to city guides, the joint travel packages offered as part of the campaign will include airline tickets, accommodation, and transportation, catering to different purposes and lengths of stay.
Discover Qatar offers ‘Stopover’ packages that cater to different preferences, including access to various kinds of hotels and beach facilities. These packages are available in three categories: standard, premium, and luxury, ensuring that travellers’ can find the perfect accommodation option that suits their style and budget.
Steven Reynolds, Senior Vice President, Discover Qatar, said: “Discover Qatar is delighted to be part of this initiative together with Qatar Tourism and Saudi Tourism Authority. ‘Double the Discovery’ offers travellers a unique opportunity to explore the rich cultural and historical wonders of both countries in a single trip. Simplifying the process for international customers, this one-of-a-kind campaign puts together all the components of an ideal trip into curated packages to discover diverse landscapes, architectural marvels, vibrant traditions and truly immersive experiences.”
Discover Saudi will offer a variety of enticing packages, such as ‘2 nights Jeddah, 2 nights Makkah, 2 nights Madinah’ and ‘2 nights Jeddah and 3 nights AlUla’. These packages allow visitors to immerse themselves in the rich history and cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia, with convenient arrangements for accommodation and transportation.
Enhancing tourism prospects for families and adventurous travellers in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the latest campaign in both countries aims to provide a wide range of tourism opportunities for families, as well as adventurous solo or group travellers. This collaborative effort focuses on offering diverse experiences, including shopping, cultural exploration, educational activities, coastal attractions, and state-of-the-art relaxation options.
Artistic hub
Doha features several art galleries and museums, one of the most prominent being the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA). MIA is home to one of the world’s greatest collections of Islamic art, with exclusive metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, woodwork, textiles, coins, and glass. MIA also hosts several exhibitions by renowned local and international artists throughout the year. With Jeddah being home to the UNESCO World Heritage site ‘Al Balad’, the Jeddah Wall, and preserved ancient houses-turned cafés and galleries, the city has lots to offer for art and history enthusiasts. The city also boasts luxurious shopping facilities and international restaurants for those who prefer a more urban experience.
Shopping paradises
Doha is home to all kinds of malls and shopping facilities, ranging from the classic Villaggio Mall to the newest, Parisian-inspired Place Vendôme. Riyadh, Saudi Arabi’s capital city, offers retail of the world’s biggest brands and businesses in its malls and markets. Alongside shopping, visitors can also enjoy some of the finest restaurants and cafés, which have both global flavours and authentic Saudi cuisine.
Coastal relaxation
A peninsula, Qatar is surrounded by the Arabian Gulf’s crystal blue seas. With a multitude of golden, sandy beach resorts, including some which are ladies-only, Qatar offers world-class hospitality through beach access, spas, and water activities.
Back in time
In Qatar, visitors are welcome to explore Ras Abrouq, a site which fuses together natural beauty of the desert with novel hotels and restaurants. Visitors can immerse themselves in historic tourism in the labyrinth of AlUla in Saudi Arabia, a fertile oasis which served as an incense trading route for thousands of years in the country’s history. Saudi Arabia is home to Hegra’s 111 preserved tombs, the country’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating back to the first millennium BC. In addition, visitors can watch sunsets at the geological sandstone wonder, Elephant Rock.

أعلنت قطر للسياحة بالتعاون مع هيئة السياحة السعودية واكتشف السعودية (التابعة للمسافر)، باعتبارها شركة إدارة الوجهات الرائدة في المملكة، عن إطلاق حملة ترويجية جديدة تحت عنوان “Double the Discovery”، وذلك أثناء مشاركتهم في معرض برلين الدولي للسياحة بهدف الترويج لأبرز معالم الجذب والوجهات السياحية في البلدين ، بما يتيح للزوار الدوليين لكلتا البلدين فرصة رائعة لاستكشاف أبرز المعالم السياحية والمراكز الثقافية والمواقع التاريخية في كل من قطر والمملكة العربية السعودية عبر رحلة واحدة.
وبفضل باقات السفر المصممة بعناية، تضع حملة “Double the Discovery” بين أيدي المسافرين عالماً من الفرص والمزايا، حيث توفر لهم تجارب فريدة وغامرة تسلط الضوء على المشاهد الطبيعية المتنوعة والمنشآت المعمارية الأيقونية والتقاليد التراثية الأصيلة في كلا البلدين.
تعتبر الخطوط الجوية القطرية، الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر والحائزة على أرفع الجوائز العالمية، شريك الطيران الرسمي للحملة، كما ستعمل كلا من ” Visit Qatar ” و” Visit Saudi” بتحديد الاسواق الرئيسية لإطلاق والترويج لباقات السفر من خلال منظمي الرحلات السياحية في كل سوق. كما تعد اكتشف قطر واكتشف السعودية شركتين محليتين تعنى بإدارة الوجهات في قطر والمملكة العربية السعودية.
وتعليقًا على إطلاق الحملة، قال سعادة السيد سعد بن علي الخرجي، رئيس قطر للسياحة: ” يأتي إطلاق الحملة الجديدة في إطار تحقيق التكامل بين الوجهات السياحية الخليجية المختلفة، وتقديم تجربة ثقافية وترفيهية وتراثية غنية لملايين الزوار من حول العالم، وتعريف العالم على مزايا ثقافتنا العربية والخليجية. نتطلع من خلال هذه التعاون المشترك إلى زيادة أعداد الزوار بما يتناسب مع الطموحات والأهداف الاستراتيجية السياحية لكل من قطر والسعودية”، وأضاف:” أن تضاعف أعداد الزوار في عام 2023، واستقبال 4 ملايين زائر العام الماضي، هو مؤشر قوي على مدى تميز التجربة السياحية في قطر على كافة المستويات، وعلى مدى تنوع رزنامة الفعاليات الترفيهية والرياضية والثقافية المختلفة، بالإضافة إلى تميز خدمات ومرافق قطاع الضيافة والسفر والمواصلات، وهي كلها من عوامل الجذب السياحي الرئيسية لأي وجهة ناجحة”.
ومن جانبه قال السيد فهد حميد الدين الرئيس التنفيذي وعضو مجلس إدارة الهيئة السعودية للسياحة: “تشهد المملكة العربية السعودية نمواً كبيراً، اذ استقبلت أكثر من 20 مليون زائر خلال الأرباع الثلاثة الأولى من عام 2023، مقارنة بـ 16 مليون زائر في عام 2022. وباعتبارها احدى نقاط الجذب السياحي والترفيهي بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط، تقدم المملكة لزوارها باقة سفر مميزة ورزنامة غنية من الفعاليات الرياضية والموسيقية والثقافية ليتمكنوا من قضاء أوقات رائعة. إن هذه الحملة التي تم اطلاقها بالتعاون مع Visit Qatar سوف تقدم للزوار فرصة مهمة لتجربة المزيد من المواقع الثقافية والتراثية في المنطقة، بالإضافة إلى استكشاف المدن الحديثة والنابضة بالحياة”.
وأضاف مزمل حسين، الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة المسافر: “يسعدنا أن نتعاون مع قطر للسياحة والهيئة العامة للسياحة السعودية من خلال شركتنا لإدارة الوجهات “اكتشف السعودية”، لتعزيز تجارب الزوار القادمين إلى دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي. لن يقتصر دور هذه المبادرة على دفع حركة السياحة في المملكة بما يتماشى مع أجندة السياحة الوطنية للمملكة العربية السعودية فقط، حيث ان هذه المبادرة ستمنح المسافرين أيضًا الفرصة لاستكشاف هاتين الوجهتين المثيرتين خلال زيارة واحدة، مع فرصة تجربة أفضل الخدمات.”
وفي إطار هذه الحملة، سيتم توفير أدلة إرشادية شاملة للسياح وذلك لتزويدهم بالمعلومات اللازمة والبيانات المفصلة الخاصة بأفضل المعالم والأنشطة التي يمكنهم القيام بها ومراكز التسوق والمطاعم التي تتوفر في كل من قطر والسعودية. وتهدف هذه الأدلة الإرشادية إلى مساعدة المسافرين في تحقيق أقصى استفادة ممكنة من زيارتهم واكتشاف أفضل ما تقدمه كل مدينة.
بالإضافة إلى الأدلة الإرشادية للمدن، سوف تشمل باقات السفر المشتركة التي يتم تقديمها ضمن الحملة تذاكر الطيران والإقامة وتوفير المواصلات بما يلائم شتى التطلعات ويغطي فترات إقامة مختلفة.
وتقدم “اكتشف قطر” باقات متنوعة من “رحلات التوقف” التي تلبي شتى الاهتمامات، بما في ذلك تقديم فئات وأنواع مختلفة من الفنادق والأماكن الشاطئية. وتتوفر هذه الباقات عبر ثلاث فئات: هي العادية والمتميزة والفاخرة، بما يضمن حصول المسافرين على خيار الإقامة المثالي الذي يلائم نمط حياتهم وميزانيتهم.

The race for the "world’s best airport” crown has been a two-horse affair in recent years, with Qatar's Hamad International in Doha and Singapore Changi leading the pack.
This year the title has switched, with 12-time winner Singapore being edged out of the top spot by its Middle Eastern rival in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024.
In a strong showing for Asia, Seoul Incheon bagged third place – also being named 2024’s most family-friendly airport – while Tokyo’s twin facilities of Haneda and Narita took fourth and fifth spots.
Hong Kong airport saw a significant boost, up 22 positions to 11th place after the city shook off its Covid-19 hangover and passenger numbers rose.
Once again US airports were nowhere to be seen near the top of the table, with the highest ranked, Seattle-Tacoma, slipping six places to 24.
Europe continued to have a strong showing, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich and Istanbul all maintaining positions in the top 10.

Qatar re-evaluates key mediator role in Middle East conflict on concerns of ‘political exploitation'

Qatar is reconsidering its role as cease-fire broker between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas, the Gulf state's prime minister said, expressing concerns that Doha's mediation has been subject to "political exploitation."
In a late-Wednesday statement , Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani "lamented the political exploitation by some politicians with narrow interests, marketing their electoral campaigns through the defamation of Qatar's role."
He did not reference any politicians or states by name, but noted that Doha has observed the "misuse" of its mediation and "its employment for narrow political interests," stressing that Qatar will undertake a "comprehensive evaluation" of its diplomatic position without indicating a timeline.

Earlier this week, U.S. Congressman for Maryland, Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) had issued a statement urging Qatar to "apply pressure on Hamas to accept a reasonable deal" for a temporary truce in exchange for the return of captives abducted by the Palestinian group during its terror attack of Oct. 7.
Since October, the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip has been ravaged by a retaliatory war campaign carried out by Israel.
"Hamas has also sought to use its intermediary Qatar – which has long helped finance, back, and house the terrorist organization – to exact greater concessions from Israel. Instead, Qatar needs to make it clear to Hamas that there will be repercussions if it continues to block progress toward releasing the hostages and establishing a temporary ceasefire," Hoyer said.

"If Qatar fails to apply this pressure, the United States must reevaluate its relationship with Qatar."
Qatar's Embassy in Washington responded to Hoyer's comments with a statement that Doha's capacity as mediator "exists only because we were asked by the United States in 2012 to play this role," adding that "blaming and threatening the mediator is not constructive, especially when the target is a friend and a Major Non-NATO Ally that presently hosts 10,000 U.S. troops and America's largest military presence in the Middle East."
Alongside the U.S. and Egypt, Qatar has been a critical diplomatic component of Israel's negotiations with Hamas since October, helping clinch a brief cease-fire between Nov. 24 and 30 and the release of more than a hundred hostages. Yet Qatar's relationship with Hamas has faced intense scrutiny — Hamas set up its political bureau in the Gulf nation in the wake of the Arab Spring uprisings of 2011, and the Palestinian militant group's leader Ismail Haniyeh resides in Qatar. Doha denies sponsoring Hamas.
Qatar's potential withdrawal from negotiations would come at a watershed moment in Middle East tensions, which were exacerbated over the weekend by the first direct attack from Iranian territory against Israel. On Saturday night, Tehran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel, whose military claims to have eliminated 99% of these threats with support from its international allies.
Iran — which backs Hamas, Lebanon's Hezbollah, Yemen's Houthi and the Syrian regime of Bashar Assad, all inimical to Israel — has said that the Saturday operation marked the end of its response to an Israeli strike that killed several commanders at an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.
Arrested between retribution and urged to show restraint by international allies, Israel has vowed to "exact a price" for the Iranian offensive, but has yet to communicate its next steps.
Markets are following the developments of the conflict, which could come to envelop the broader Middle East region and have acute ramifications for oil prices and international trade. Already, Houthi maritime attacks have delayed or disrupted commercial transit through the Red Sea.

Qatar seeks stronger business ties with Korean firms
Qatar-Korea Trade Mission 2024 to be held in Seoul, April 29-30
Qatar Development Bank (QDB) is hosting a business networking event between companies in Qatar and Korea as it seeks to build stronger economic ties with Korean business groups and further develop the two countries' bilateral cooperation, according to the Qatar Embassy in Korea, Tuesday.
The state-run bank's event, Qatar-Korea Trade Mission 2024, will run from April 29 to 30 in Seoul, while the bank's export development, finance and promotion agency, Tasdeer, is organizing it.
Twenty-one Qatari companies are participating in the business match-up with their potential Korean counterparts. The delegation includes companies in the fields of architectural chemical products, construction materials, health and medical, petroleum and gas, plastic products and packaging, engineering consulting, sports tech and tourism.
The companies have decades of business history and recognized performances in Qatar, according to the embassy. ITAG International, an offshore drill expert and equipment manufacturer, is one of the most experienced offshore drillers in Europe. Qatari German for Medical Devices is one of the leading medical equipment manufacturers in the Middle East. SkyStruct, an engineering consulting firm, is on top of the industry in Qatar by specializing in technologies coming from Qatar Science & Technology Park.
Korea Importers Association (KOIMA) said earlier this month the Qatar embassy had requested to promote the event to the association's member companies. KOIMA has released details on the event online, including names of participating Qatari firms and each of their websites, and encouraged its member companies to join it.
QDB, with the event, seeks to solidify further the bilateral economic partnership that was previously highlighted by Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol when he paid a state visit to Qatar last October. Yoon, during the visit, elevated the bilateral partnership to a "comprehensive strategic partnership" as he said it was necessary to extend the two countries' current trades, mostly in energy sectors, to broader industries and spawn more diverse businesses.
QDB said the delegation represents the country's "vibrant economy" as the participating firms engage in a diverse array of industrial fields. The bank also said it identifies the event as a "critical juncture" to deepen the bilateral economic ties and explore new market frontiers.
The key feature of the event, according to the bank, is a session dedicated to providing Korean firms with high-level consultations on import procedures and conditions as they opt to trade with Qatari firms.
Established in 1997, QDB's main objective is to develop investments within Qatar's local industries and accelerate growth and economic diversification through its support for private sectors. It is in line with the country's national campaign, Qatar National Vision 2030.

Qatar aims to showcase the country’s leading accredited university offerings and how it can open a world of opportunities for students by providing internationally recognised degrees from top-level universities.
As part of the campaign, CNN, one of the most widely distributed news channels in the world, visited Qatar to film its educational institutes and interview current students - this will be featured in 30- and 60-second videos on the platform. The campaign will also include other digital advertisements to ensure maximum reach across the region.
