History of R&B Music

R&B, which stands for Rhythm and Blues and is also referred to as R’n’B, is a form of popular music that emerged among African-American communities in the 1940s. It was made by African Americans and mostly targeted African Americans living in urban areas. For this reason, it was initially called “race music,” which was changed for being offensive.

This genre of music is believed to have derived from blues, jazz, folk, and gospel. It changed a lot over the decades. In the 1950s, it was mostly similar to rock n roll and was commonly categorized as such. It was used to refer to electric blues, soul, and gospel as well.

In the 1970s, R&B moved away from rock and was mostly identified with soul and funk. Starting from the 1980s, it was infused with pop, soul, funk, electronic, and hip-hop, resulting in contemporary R&B. The electric guitar was ditched for instruments such as keyboards, drum machines, and synthesizers, making the music very similar to hip-hop.

Biggest R&B Concerts

In the mood for some R&B concerts? Why not attend the Sol Blume Music Festival that takes place in Sacramento, California? It is particularly suited for modern fans of R&B.

The R&B Only Fest is also worth visiting. Organized by COLORS Worldwide, this festival takes place in multiple cities across the nation, so be on the lookout when it hits your city.

What Seats are the Best at a Concert

The answer varies with each venue, but generally, the seats in the middle offer the greatest musical experience. Not only is the sound quality great there, but you also get an amazing view of the stage and the performers. Be warned though: the good seats are also the most expensive.

How to Buy Cheap Concert Tickets

Maybe you are a fan of modern-day R&B, or you miss the 90s old-school R&B concerts and want to experience them once again. All you need to do is buy some R&B concert tickets and you’ll be on your way to some music to fulfill your soul. We can help you with that – our website offers tickets at amazing prices from various sellers. Rest assured, all our ticket partners are verified and authentic.

Also, our event calendar is handy for locating upcoming R&B music concerts you’d like to attend. Don’t miss it when your favorite artist tours near you. You can search concerts by city, state, venue, date, or artist name – it’s really easy.

After much anticipation, legendary R&B groups Xscape and SWV have announced their co-headlining The Queens of R&B Tour.

The two groups will be joined by fellow ’90s R&B acts Mýa , Total, and 702 as special guests.

The North American tour, produced by Monami Entertainment and Live Nation, begins Jun 27 at Toyota Pavilion in Concord, California.

From there, they will make stops in Las Vegas, Dallas, Tampa, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and St. Louis, before concluding Aug. 18 at Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

“To announce this HERstorical tour during Women’s History Month means everything. It speaks to the power of our ability as women to overcome adversity and emerge triumphant,” says Mona Scott-Young, founder and CEO of Monami Entertainment.

Scott-Young continues, “702, Total, Mýa, SWV, and Xscape have all weathered storms and are still here and better than ever! We are so excited to bring the fans an incredible and undeniable performance experience that truly celebrates R&B music.”

SWV and Xscape The Queens of R&B reality series

Presale tickets will be available starting Tuesday, March 26. Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, March 29, at 10 a.m. local time.

Xscape and SWV’s tour is titled after their Queens of R&B  reality series , which aired on Bravo in 2023. The six-episode, limited series took viewers on a tumultuous journey through the inner workings of putting together a live concert — plus a lot more.

In the show, there were talks about possibly doing a co-headlining tour. However, there were disagreements about logistics, including who would open and close the show. Given the new tour announcement, it looks like both parties have come to an agreement for the greater good of R&B.

Last summer, SWV joined Jodeci and Dru Hill on the Summer Block Party Tour .

See Xscape and SWV’s tour dates below.

Fresh out of a pandemic, Australia’s 2023 touring calendar was one of the busiest in recent memory, as artists of all stripes took centrestage everywhere from stadium shows to intimate local gigs. With a starry schedule that included the likes of Post Malone , Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Mötley Crüe , it’ll be tricky for 2024’s schedule to outdo its predecessor – and yet, thanks to the likes of Taylor Swift , Blink-182 and Pink , plus Coldplay, Pearl Jam and SZA, it’s poised to do just that.

From debut headline shows for breakout artists to bustling festival sideshow programs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy as a stellar batch of musicians make their way Down Under in 2024. Read on for NME’s roundup of all the biggest concerts and tours coming to Australia this year.

  • Depeche Mode

Aussie Depeche Mode fans are an incredibly patient bunch. The last time the British synth-pop titans toured the country was in 1994, meaning nearly three decades have passed since they last paid us a visit. But good things come to those who wait, and it seems there is a glimmer of hope for those hoping to catch the band Down Under.

  • READ MORE: Depeche Mode: every single album ranked and rated

In March 2023, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan told an Italian blog that the band were eyeing “as-yet-unannounced dates in Asia and Australia” as part of a touring run that would lead into 2024. The band have toured the world in support of their latest album, ‘Memento Mori’ , and a trip to Australia to cap off the jaunt seems more likely than ever.

2024 RBC Heritage purse, prize money: Payout for Scottie Scheffler, golfers from $20M signature event pool

Another signature event means another big winner's check was up for grabs in south carolina.

rbc-heritage-trophy-2023-g.png

Another week, another monstrous purse on the PGA Tour (taken home by Scottie Scheffler). The first signature event to be played following the 2024 Masters took place in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with the RBC Heritage hosting the best golfers on Tour -- and the best golfer in the world came out on top once again

With $20 million on the line in totality, Scottie Scheffler won for the fourth time in his last five starts , cashing a cool $3.6 million winner's share.

There was not a cut in place this week, so everyone in the field was guaranteed at least $41,000 no matter how many crooked numbers they posted. This is the new way of life for Tour pros as this is one of eight big-money signature events, only three of which have a cut.

Your first four winners from signature events this season ...

  • The Sentry: Chris Kirk ($3.6 million)
  • Pebble Beach Pro Am: Wyndham Clark ($3.6 million)
  • Genesis Invitational: Hideki Matsuyama ($4 million)
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational: Scottie Scheffler ($4 million)
  • RBC Heritage: Scottie Scheffler ($3.6 million)

Scheffler has now won $16.25 million over his last five starts, including $3.6 million for taking the 2024 Masters, $4.5 million for winning The Players Championship and $554,000 for finishing second at the Houston Open.

The Wells Fargo Championship, Memorial and Travelers Championship will round out the eight signature events for 2024. Only the Memorial will have a cut. Add it all up, and there is nearly $200 million at stake between those eight tournaments plus The Players Championship, which Scheffler won in early March.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 2024 RBC Heritage for the 69 players who are playing this event.

Scottie Scheffler claims RBC Heritage title, wins for fourth time in last five tournaments

r&b tours

Scottie Scheffler's dominance of the PGA Tour continues.

The reigning Masters champion became the first player since Tiger Woods to win four times in a five-tournament span when he captured the RBC Heritage in a rain-delayed finish.

Scheffler finished off the last three holes of a final-round 68 on Monday morning for a three-shot win over Sahith Theegala at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

The victory adds another trophy to Scheffler's amazing start to the season. He previously won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, followed by the Players Championship. Then last week, the world's No. 1-ranked player added a second Green Jacket with a four-shot victory at Augusta National.

Woods was the last PGA Tour player to win four times in five events when he did it in 2007-08.

Though not to be outdone, Nelly Korda won the LPGA's first major title of the season on Sunday – the Chevron Championship – giving her victories in five consecutive LPGA Tour events.
