Travel assist.

Travel Assist integrates several systems and functions, which we present separately on the following pages. When they are interconnected, the car can make driving a lot easier and increase travelling comfort . Once activated, Travel Assist can automatically stop and restart, keep the car in lane, follow other vehicles in a traffic jam, or show the surrounding traffic on a display in front of you.

PREDICTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The new Predictive Cruise Control expands the adaptive cruise control’s functions. Besides keeping track of the traffic ahead, it also processes recognised travel signs and speed limits stored in the navigation system. This enables it to adjust speed in good time, for example when it is approaching a bend , a roundabout, or an intersection, or in response to speed limits .

TRAFFIC SIGN RECOGNITION

A picture processing module searches scanned pictures for known traffic signs and compares the results with the navigation data. The system processes speed limit signs, no-overtaking signs, no-entry signs on one-way streets and any supplementary instructions, as well as associated restriction clearance signs, and then displays them to the driver.

ADAPTIVE LANE ASSIST

Lane Assist can tell when you stray from a lane unintentionally . This system works in conjunction with a camera to recognise lane markings on the road, including yellow lines during roadworks, traffic cones, and other roadside or lane borders. The enhanced “Adaptive” variant (only available as part of Travel Assist) means that the system intervenes in an attempt to keep the vehicle in the selected track within the traffic lane, and the car does not “weave”.

TRAFFIC JAM ASSIST

Traffic Jam Assist makes it easier to drive a car in traffic jams . It draws on the Adaptive Cruise Control and Adaptive Lane Assist to start, brake and turn the car to copy the movement of surrounding vehicles in a traffic jam.

EMERGENCY ASSIST

Emergency Assist reduces risk of an incident if the driver is not feeling well. If Adaptive Lane Assist detects that the driver does not have hands on the steering wheel even after a warning alert, Emergency Assist is activated, decelerates the car to halt while keeping it in lane and activating the hazard warning lights.

A wealth of engine choices.

The Škoda Octavia Combi offers efficient diesel and petrol four-cylinder engines available in several power outputs, mated to a DSG automatic or manual gearbox, front- or all-wheel drive, and meeting the latest emission standards. Three all-petrol engines, two mild-hybrid variants, and two all-diesel engines are available.

Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC)

Octavia Combi features the option of the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) with Driving Mode Select. DCC allows drivers to customise the vehicle’s handling to their personal preferences on a scale of options from Sport to Comfort – an à-la-carte chassis setup.

Your safety, our priority

The safety of you and your family is our priority. Occupants are protected by up to 10 airbags that work in tandem with the seat belts. The Isofix and Top Tether systems are used to improve the protection of children in infant carriers. If an accident is unavoidable, passengers are prepared for impact by Crew Protect Assist which, in the front, closes the windows and activates belt pretensioning. ESC, ABS and many other systems also keep an eye on the car when it is on the go.

LED Matrix beam headlights

The Škoda Octavia Combi features efficient LED lights front and back. The main advantage of second-generation LED Matrix beam headlights is their Matrix function , which, by lighting up and extinguishing the individual LED sources in sequence, prevents other road users from being dazzled. This means you can keep the powerful full beam on all the time on your travels so that you have a perfect insight into what is happening around you.

The LED Matrix beam headlights are complemented by the very best LED rear lights with animated indicators and welcome effect, incorporating diodes for every function.

Driving in the city

Inching forward a bit at a time as you pass pedestrians and cyclists. The Škoda Octavia Combi’s job is to make this easier for you. The Front Assist with Predictive Pedestrian and Cyclist Protection can alert you or stop the car in the event of an imminent collision with another vehicle or a person. Side Assist detects vehicles approaching from behind or in the car’s blind spot up to 70 m away, so it also effective at warning the driver of hazardous situations on multi-lane roads and motorways.

When you buy the Octavia Combi, all your parking worries are over. Rear Traffic Alert will help you exit a line of cars as it detects whether another car is approaching and alerts you in good time. A useful component of Intelligent Park Assist is Remote Parking, which is used to automatically park the car in a line of parallel-parked or a row of perpendicular-parked vehicles, and also to exit from such parking spots, while you stand outside the car and control it remotely via a MyŠkoda app.

Driving on the highway

When you’re on the motorway, systems are ready to help by taking some of the driving for you. Travel Assist integrates several systems and functions to make driving a lot easier and increase travelling comfort. Once activated, Travel Assist can automatically stop and restart, keep the car in lane, follow other vehicles in a traffic jam, or show the surrounding traffic on a display in front of you.

Driving outside the city

Smart function Traffic Sign Recognition shows the traffic signs on the car’s display so you can keep track of the situation. In case of an accident, the Multi-Collision Brake prevents further uncontrolled vehicle movement by braking, thus reducing the risk of multiple collisions.

Mladá Boleslav, 14 February 2024 – Škoda Auto has further refined the Octavia’s high level of active and passive safety in the updated version. The new Attention and Drowsiness Assist uses an innovative algorithm to assess driver behaviour more precisely. The updated Octavia comes with up to ten airbags while further assistance systems take driver convenience to a new level.

Innovative algorithm assesses driver behaviour

In the updated Octavia, Škoda has replaced Driver Alert with the Attention and Drowsiness Assist, as seen in the all‑new Superb and all‑new Kodiaq. The system monitors the driver’s behaviour and assesses their level of drowsiness. While Driver Alert mainly analysed data from the electromechanical power steering, the Attention and Drowsiness Assist accesses information from various vehicle control units, such as the Lane Assist. It uses an innovative algorithm to recognise short-term inattention (distraction) and long-term inattention (fatigue). It detects deviations from normal steering behaviour at speeds above 65 km/h and continuously evaluates the driver’s behaviour in order to draw conclusions about their fitness to drive. If the system concludes that the driver is fatigued, it triggers visual and audible warnings in the Virtual Cockpit at three levels: recommendation, warning and escalation. More advanced traffic sign recognition also provides enhanced driver support.

Convenient and safe parking

The new Intelligent Park Assist (available only with automatic transmission) enables the Octavia to enter and exit parallel and perpendicular parking spaces automatically. In addition to controlling the steering, like the Park Assist in other Škoda models, it now also takes charge of the brakes, speed and direction of travel (forward and reverse). The car will also stop automatically if the system detects an obstacle. The upcoming Remote Park Assist (available only with automatic transmission) will go even further. It will allow the driver to control Intelligent Park Assist manoeuvres remotely from outside the vehicle via the MyŠkoda app. The vehicle and smartphone communicate via Bluetooth when the user is within four metres of the Octavia. All they have to do is select the type of manoeuvre in the app and the direction in which they want to exit the parking space. The maximum speed during the manoeuvre is 9.5 km/h.

High level of passive safety

The Škoda Octavia is one of the safest vehicles in its class. In 2022, it successfully repeated its 5-star rating in the Euro NCAP reference test for crash safety, even under the now more stringent test conditions. Since summer 2022, up to ten airbags have protected the vehicle’s occupants in the event of an accident: the central airbag between the driver and front passenger and the knee airbag for the driver, along with the driver and front passenger airbags as well as front side airbags and head airbags, come as standard. Rear side airbags are available as an option.

Travel Assist omfatter en række systemer og funktioner, som vi præsenterer enkeltvis på de følgende sider. Når de er forbundet med hinanden skaber de travel assistenten og kan gøre kørslen meget nemmere og øge kørekomforten. Når den er aktiveret, kan Travel Assist automatisk stoppe og sætte i gang igen, holde bilen i vognbanen, følge andre køretøjer ved køkørsel eller vise trafikken omkring bilen på et display foran dig.

Adaptiv/forudseende fartpilot

Den forudseende fartpilot udvider funktionerne i den adaptive fartpilot. Ud over at holde øje med trafikken forude tager den også højde for genkendte vejskilte. På den måde kan den tilpasse hastigheden i god tid, eksempelvis når bilen nærmer sig et sving, en rundkørsel eller et vejkryds, eller reagere på hastighedsgrænser.

Vejskiltegenkendelse

Et billedbehandlingsmodul gennemsøger de scannede billeder for kendte vejskilte og sammenligner resultaterne med navigationsdataene. Systemet tager højde for skilte med hastighedsgrænser, overhalingsforbud indkørsel forbudt i ensrettede gader og eventuelle ekstra informationer samt skilte, der ophæver begrænsningerne, og viser dem for føreren.

Adaptiv Lane Assist

Þegar Akstursaðstoðin (Travel Assist) hefur verið virkjuð getur hún stöðvað og ræst sig sjálfkrafa, haldið bílnum á akreininni, elt aðra bíla í umferðarhnútum eða sýnt umhverfið í kringum þig á skjá fyrir framan þig.

FORVIRKUR HRAÐASTILLIR (ACC)

Nýr forvirkur hraðastillir víkkar út virkni sjálfvirka hraðastillisins. Fyrir utan að fylgjast með umferðinni framundan vinnur hann úr greindum umferðarmerkjum og harðatakmörkunum sem vistaðar eru í leiðsögukerfinu. New Skoda Octavia to be shown at Moscow Motor Show this month?

There's a lot of talk going on about a Skoda Fabia sedan playing the cheaper alternative to the Volkswagen Vento , but listen to what an auto portal in Slovakia is reporting.

SME reports Skoda will premiere an inexpensive car to the Moscow Motor Show which takes place between 25th and 29th of this month. The translation to English isn't very clear and we're able to derive is that this vehicle will be the successor to the Octavia Tour (which is the Octavia to Indians).

There won't be TSI engines on this inexpensive Skoda. It will get the 1.6-liter unit (possibly in both petrol and diesel forms). It seems like this vehicle will share powertrains with the Polo sedan. It could even be priced under the Vento.

Is the Fabia sedan the Octavia replacement? There are several other foreign publications reporting Skoda would bring the Octavia revival only by 2011 end or 2012 , which is build to cost less than 13,000 Euros.

The previous generation Fabia was available as a sedan. The current gen Fabia can be bought only as a hatchback or a station wagon (pictured).

Don't know which one to believe? Guess we'll all have to wait and see what happens in Moscow later this month.

Adaptiver Spurhalteassistent "Adaptive Lane Assist"

Dieses System erkennt Fahrbahnmarkierungen auf der Straße, einschließlich gelber Linien bei Baustellen, Verkehrskegeln und anderen Straßenrand- oder Fahrbahnbegrenzungen. Wenn Sie unbeabsichtigt von der Fahrspur abkommen, greift es aktiv ein, um das Fahrzeug wieder in die ausgewählte Fahrspur zu bringen, ohne dass es „schlängelt“.

Stauassistent "Traffic Jam Assist"

Der Stauassistent ("Traffic Jam Assist") erleichtert die Fahrzeugsteuerung im Stau. Er wird vom adaptiven Abstandsassistenten und dem adaptiven Spurhalteassistenten unterstützt, um selbständig anzufahren, zu bremsen und das Fahrzeug in Übereinstimmung mit den umgebenden Fahrzeugen im Stau zu lenken.

Notfallassistent "Emergency Assist"

Der Notfallassistent ("Emergency Assist") greift im Falle einer Fahruntüchtigkeit ein. Registriert das System in einem festgelegten Zeitraum keine Lenkbewegung oder anderweitige Aktion, ertönt ein Warnsignal. Erfolgt keine Reaktion, wird der Notfallassistent aktiviert, der das Fahrzeug zum Stillstand bringt und die Warnblinkanlage aktiviert. Es wird automatisch ein Notruf abgesetzt und die Hupe und Innenbeleuchtung aktiviert.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

• Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
• Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
• How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
• What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
• What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
• What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
