There are now eighteen colours to choose from following the launch of the Swirl Collection, featuring Polar Swirl and Rose Quartz Swirl in January, the new Lilac and Ash shades in March and now, the new Plum Quencher.

The new colourway, Plum launched on April 11, but you'll need to be quick we're expecting it to sell fast.

The Polar Swirl Quencher blends white and grey tones seamlessly, whereas the Rose Quartz Swirl Quencher is inspired by the most popular shade, Rose Quartz, to create a pink and white swirl pattern.

The previous launch saw the introduction of the Glow Collection in late 2023, with the Rose Quartz Glow, Rosewood Glow and Balsam Glow Quencher finally going on sale.

The Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler is a large insulated cup with a slim base design that fits into a car cup holder and comes in several colours.

The ergonomically shaped handle and lid with a rotating cover make it the ideal travel companion.

'I used a Stanley Quencher Cup for a week... here's my honest thoughts'

An enormous thermos mug with a handle arrived in the UK last spring and now we're well and truly 'peak Stanley'... but is it worth the hype?

They were all so excited… what could be so special about what just sounded like a giant travel mug with a handle?

I don’t use TikTok, so I was blissfully unaware of the 1.2L Stanley Quencher mug, and how it had developed a cult following in the US - i.e. not a single one of the 262.8 MILLION views of ‘Stanley Adventure Quencher’ content on the platform came from me.

But, from my (younger, hipper) colleagues, I found out it’s a must-have piece of kit for the hot young Mormon Wives of TikTok, and from listening to their impassioned descriptions, I got the impression that every glamorous woman in Utah has at least one of these highly coveted vessels.

So when Stanley announced that ‘the cup’ was headed to the UK in April last year, priced at £44.95, I was eager to get my mitts on one and see what all the fuss was about.

Fast forward to 2024, and not only have they released two new colours , a classy neutral cream and a gorgeous lilac hue called 'Orchid', but in the US – where they’ve released a limited-edition pink version of the viral Stanley Quencher cup (designed with Starbucks) – there has been total chaos at multiple Target stores, with customers vying to get their hands on the product.

Admittedly, I was very, very cynical about this 'giant cup', but I decided to use it consistently for a week, putting it to the test in a variety of scenarios, at home, at work, out and about, and on a press trip to St. Lucia. Here are my honest thoughts...

6 things I learnt from using a Stanley Quencher Cup for a week

It’s eco-credentials are legit

The Stanley Quencher H2.0 Flowstate™ Tumbler is made from 90% recycled stainless steel, and when it arrived at the office, I was really impressed to see that it was packaged in fully recyclable cardboard.

There’s nothing worse than thinking you’re taking your fight against single use plastics up a gear and then being confronted with reams of un-recyclable plastic film and a chunky styrofoam sarcophagus when you open the box.

I was pleased to see there was none of this, just boring brown cardboard.

One tap does not fit all

A classic double-edged sword; the cup's selling point is its huge size, but its huge size does mean that it can be quite cumbersome to fill.

I took the Quencher with me for an overnight stay at Bowood House Hotel and Spa. Here I discovered that if you’re faced with a water dispenser on a counter rather than a full tap, the only way to fill it up is to pour it in mini plastic cup by plastic cup… too much effort!

And ahead of my flight to the Caribbean... well, I let a lot of people use the water point at Gatwick before me in case they were in a rush to catch a flight!

I drank more water than ever

I’ve never been one to struggle with drinking enough water but I definitely think the Quencher is helping me stay super-hydrated - and it is probably due to the straw.

Research has found that people who drink through a straw consume more liquids as it's easier than tipping a glass or cup up to our mouths, and we can suck up more than we could otherwise sip.

The Government's recommended minimum water intake for adult women is 1.2L a day - so if you are one of the people who struggle, all you need to aim for is one Quencher-ful a day.

Personally, I've been finding myself refilling at least three times, regardless of if I've been at home, work or abroad.

It's not leak proof

To be honest I am a bit disappointed that the Quencher isn't leak-proof. The cup's lid has three settings, and you can use it without a straw, although it has a special opening designed to resist splashes while holding the reusable straw in place. It also has a drink opening, and a full-cover top.

I found my bag had turned in to a bit of a portable pond after carrying the cup in there as I ran errands, which was annoying and will limit the amount I can take it out and about with me.

It is genuinely flipping massive

It is a PITA to carry around unless it’s empty - which sounds pointless but it turned out to be very handy when a gin tin I took on a train journey sprung a leak. I was able to decanter it straight in to the Quencher to drink at leisure rather than suck it’s sticky contents from the fissure like I was saving someone’s life from a snake bite.

Due to it leaking, you can’t just shove it in your bag and carry it around, and if you need two hands for something then you are a bit stuck if there’s nowhere to dump the cup quickly. This made me think it might need some sort of carrying strap, but I haven’t seen anything specific for the size and shape of this mug on Amazon or elsewhere.

This might be as one of the main selling points of the Stanley Quencher is that it has a tapered bottom that lets it fit neatly in to any car cup holder.

I do not actually have a car but this hasn’t stopped me from telling everyone about this “amazing feature”. And the next time I’m in one? Well, I’ll be bringing the Quencher to see if it’s true.

It really does keep drinks icy cold

During my time at The Body Holiday , I regularly filled the cup with iced water from the dispensers around the resort - and not once did I find myself sipping on water than was even a few degrees warmer. Knowing I had an ice cold drink to hand encouraged me to drink even more - and you can never be too hydrated.

I didn't try it with hot drinks (yet), but Stanley claims that its superstar double-walled insulation mug that can keep drinks hot for eleven hours, or ice cubes intact for two days.

It's pet proof

From the moment I start to enjoy relaxing at home, my furry overlords are close by to make sure I don’t get too comfortable, and to remind me that what’s mine is theirs. Any sort of drink I have to hand gets sniffed - green juice, red wine, coffee - and if it’s a glass of water? That’s getting lapped up, with them usually eyeballing me over the rim as they drink as much as they can before I notice and need to return to the tap for a fresh one - which they will also try and get their snouts in to.

Thankfully the Quencher, which is about the same height as them, has been perfect for keeping their dirty little mouths out of my H2O.

Essentially an adult sippy cup, the Stanley quencher flowstate cups (read: emotional support water bottles) are the unlikely products to have taken the internet by storm, and they keep selling out. If you missed out during the past few restocks, fear not, as two new colourways have just landed.

With more than 300 million views and counting on TikTok ( the reusable water bottles are dominating the niche #WaterTok trend) and even garnering Adele’s seal of approval, it’s no surprise the entire range has sold out four times since landing in the UK.

Despite being Gen Z’s favourite accessory, the tumbler brand actually has its roots all the way back in 1913, as a go-to for adventurers and hikers, but it’s reached new renown, thanks to the pastel-hued quencher cups.

The viral quencher H2.0 flowstate cup boasts a 1.2l capacity and can keep your liquid cold for up to 11 hours, or two full days when iced. Complete with a reusable straw and full-cover cup, it has an ergonomic handle, and a base that fits into a car’s cup-holder.

Better still, it’s crafted from 90 per cent recycled stainless steel, for more sustainable sipping. Coming in a range of aesthetically pleasing colours, from eucalyptus sage and rose quartz to the new marbled swirl range, the pretty cups have ascended to cult status – but their main appeal is hydration (they are water bottles, after all).

With its 1.2l capacity, the reusable tumbler promises to keep your thirst quenched while ensuring your cold drinks stay chilled for up to 11 hours (or two days when iced), thanks to Stanley’s vacuum insulation. We tested these claims with an ice-cold smoothie, which stayed deliciously chilled for all-day sipping – as did our white wine at the park (another underrated benefit of the cup).

There’s no denying it’s heavy, though, and the sheer size of the thing is slightly impractical for lugging around a city during the commute – it seemed to take up more space than our lunch, laptop and book combined. But, when working from home, we appreciated the large capacity, as it helped boost our water intake.

The ergonomic handle adds to its ease of use, while the narrow base that fits some (but not all) car cup-holders is a nice touch. Plus, the entire bottle is dishwasher-safe. Crafted from 90 per cent recycled stainless steel, it’s not only durable, it’s sustainable, too, giving you peace of mind while sipping.

Designed with an advanced flowstate lid, you can rotate the cover to three positions – described as a splash-resistant straw opening, a drink opening and a full-cover top for transportation. Though it’s easy to switch between these positions, the full-cover top failed to pass the leakproof test when tipped on its side or upside down. This completely rules out the quencher in terms of carrying it loose in a bag, which is quite a big drawback, considering the price.

Beyond its practical use, the range of colours available certainly makes hydration a more stylish affair. The cups are famous for selling out within hours after each restock, but you can currently covet the pink rose quartz, as well as the two new marble swirl colourways in polar blue and rose quartz. It’s safe to sayStanley has targeted a whole new generation of customers with these Insta-worthy pastel-hued cups.

The verdict: Stanley quencher H2.0 flowstate tumbler

Stanley’s quencher H2.0 is not just a pretty face. As well as the aesthetically pleasing pastel colourways, its 1.2l capacity easily boosted our daily water intake. Keeping drinks chilled all day long, its vacuum insulation is an impressive feature, as is the handy car cup and ergonomic handle.

Where the quencher falls short is in its portability. While the large size isn’t a problem for lounging at home, the cup’s heftiness makes it impractical for transporting while out and about – plus, the leaky lid is an obvious flaw, considering the quencher’s price.

Though we’ll continue reaching for the Stanley cup while working from home, we won’t be abandoning our old reusable water bottle for the commute to the office just yet.

While the full cup range is still sold out in the UK, the rose quartz and two new swirl hues have just landed, while some more colours of the quencher cups are still available to buy via Amazon. Is the Stanley Still a Status Symbol? And What’s the Next ‘It’ Cup?

S tepping into my yoga class sometimes feels like scrolling through a chic social media feed. Take, for instance, the water bottles. Over the past year, every time I peeked around during downward dog, there they were: a whole crew of oversized Stanley Quencher tumblers, boldly holding their ground amidst a sea of yoga mats.

While I’ve yet to buy my own, I must admit, the straw does look comfortable — and the colors are truly fabulous. Ultimately, it was about much more than simply helping everyone hit their hydration goals. Carrying a Stanley Quencher feels like a status symbol. Much like an Apple watch or Lululemon leggings. And my fellow yogis were again proving a point: Not only did they have the right gear, but they also knew the right water bottles to sip from.

The Stanley Quencher became iconic thanks to a combination of great marketing, cultural trends and price point that makes it a bit pricey for a water bottle but affordable compared to other luxury products. But it’s not alone, and other cups are vying for its crown (have you met the Hydro Jug yet)?

What Made Stanley a Status Symbol

“The genius of Stanley Cup was its colorway that could be carefully accessorized to meet the athleisure trend that has been strong since the pandemic,” says Quynh Mai, founder of Qulture , a New York-based digital marketing agency that tracks social media trends. “The 110-year-old brand name gave it legitimacy and legacy, but it was its colors and limited-edition drops that made it a fashion accessory.”

Originally aimed at outdoor enthusiasts, the Quencher got a significant makeover from its 1913 original, invented by Williams Stanley Jr. Through strategic partnerships and a shift in marketing, the company rebranded the Quencher as a lifestyle essential, targeting women aged 25 to 50 to revamp the brand. Leveraging social media and influencer endorsements, Stanley also used user-generated content to boost demand, including TikTok influencers who showed off their own colorful stash of tumblers.

“The Stanley Cup is one of the few products that trended with moms and then trickled down to their daughters and younger generations, in particular their Gen Alpha daughters,” Mai adds.

Why Is a CUP a Status Symbol?

There’s nothing new about displaying a certain item to signal wealth or success — even when the item itself isn’t particularly pricey like, say, a Birkin, explains Cait Lamberton, professor of marketing at University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, who studies consumption behavior.

But the tumbler has become a status symbol because it speaks to the idea of “privileged knowledge” — those in the know were the first subgroup to get the Quenchers and could show one another that they were part of an important subgroup, Lamberton says.

“You knew what was cool in that moment,” Lamberton explains. “Members of that group can signal membership to one another by displaying the cup, posting about the cup, or consuming online content about the cup. Every action that signals membership in that subgroup becomes another chance to signal status.”

Fans say the Stanley Quencher does have its perks, beyond just being a status water bottle. For one, the 40-ounce version encourages some people to drink more. And the straw allows for easy sipping without the need to unscrew or fumble with a cap; the large handle is comfy when carrying on the go. 

In a way, it’s also more affordable than carrying around a handbag that can run into the thousands, adds Mai. “This cup was a democratic and utilitarian ‘it’ product that replaced the handbag for many,” she says. “Geared toward the on-the-go mom, it suits the needs of a multitasking, vibrant, busy woman’s life.”

Lamberton’s Gen Z students also point out that the Stanley’s unique size has helped it shoot to popularity. While the oversize water bottle makes it impractical to stash in a bag, it also allows it to be extra noticeable as fans carry it around. And the various hard-to-find colors have added the necessary scarcity. “In this case, visibility trumps function,” Lamberton says. “More visible goods can more easily be used to signal status to others, so this works in Stanley’s favor.”

Fans Are Already Predicting What’s Next

But the status symbol is quickly showing signs of losing staying power, adds Lamberton. Many of her own marketing students are seeing the Owala take over on campus. And water bottle users aren’t expecting to be loyal to their favorite bottles or that the items will last forever, especially when newer options come with better features and materials. 

Part of the draw is this idea of something that’s just a fun moment in time. “We don’t know what will be next, but we can be pretty sure that it won’t last long,” she adds. And maybe, I’ll jump on the next trend, too.

Reviewers love the HydroJug’s cup holder compatible Traveler mug and say the flip-up straw is perfect for sipping. It also looks very similar to the Stanley Quencher.
