The 2022 Tour de France begins on Friday, July 1st with a 13.3km individual time trial through Copenhagen, Denmark. (Yes, Denmark!) So it’s time to start planning how you’re going to watch it.

Whether that means streaming from your phone, starting your morning with the previous day’s highlights, or inviting your friends over for a viewing party, the options for watching the Tour de France are plentiful.

For the Fanatics

In general, NBC offers the most accessible and affordable (and legal) options for American viewers to watch the Tour de France through its Peacock Premium streaming service for $4.99 a month. For ad-free coverage you’ll need a subscription to Peacock Premium Plus, which runs $9.99 a month. Eligible Comcast Xfinity X1 and Flex customers and Cox Contour customers may already access Peacock Premium for free.

You could cancel your subscription at the end of the Tour, but consider this: by subscribing to Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus you’ll also have access to the full men’s and women’s Tours as well as other races covered by NBC and its partners, including the 2022 Vuelta a España and next year’s editions of Paris-Nice and Paris-Roubaix.

The Peacock app is available on Roku, Apple devices, Android and AndroidTV devices, Google platforms, Chromecast, Xbox devices, Playstation 4 and 4 Pro, VIZIO SmartCast TVs, and LG Smart TVs. You can also watch online via the Peacock website.

If you have a good cable package and prefer conventional viewing on your television, you’re in luck: NBC will offer the race to cable subscribers via the USA Network and CNBC . Live coverage often starts around 7 a.m. ET, so 9-to-5ers will likely need to record each stage and watch later. (Check the full schedule for details.)

No Cable? No Problem.

If you don’t have cable and want more than what’s offered on the NBC app, a subscription to FuboTV costs $70 per month. Add the $12 per month cycling package you’ll have full access to NBC’s coverage of the race. Fubo’s also great for those who love cycling year round, as FuboTV has a full-time cycling channel covering the major Tours, the Classics, some World Championships, and even BMX racing. (It’s also available in Canada.) If you’ve been looking for a streaming service that offers most if not all of the channels you enjoy watching, it’s a solid option.

Riders to Watch

Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) has won the last two Tours and starts this year’s race as the overwhelming favorite. He can do it all: climb, descend, time trial–even the cobblestones of Belgium and Northern France have proven to be no match for the 23-year-old. Assuming he avoids crashes and bad luck during the Tour’s dangerous first week , he should have little trouble taking his third win.

Pogačar’s biggest challenge should come from Jumbo-Visma’s co-captains, Slovenia’s Primož Roglič and Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, who finished second to Pogačar in 2020 and 2021, respectively. If they can play to one another’s strengths and avoid worrying about which one is their team’s “true” leader, then they might have a chance to dethrone the two-time defending champ.

The INEOS Grenadiers have won seven of the last ten Tours de France with four different riders–so clearly they know what it takes to win the world’s biggest bike race. But Pogačar’s proven to be a tough nut for the British super team to crack. This year we expect them to count on a mix of both old and new in their bid to reclaim the yellow jersey, with co-captains Geraint Thomas, who won the Tour in 2018, and Daniel Martinez, who’s riding only his third Tour and his first as his team’s protected rider, expected to lead the way.

Other riders to keep an eye on include Australia’s Ben O’Connor, Russia’s Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe), and Colombia’s Rigoberto Uran (EF Education-EasyPost).

2021 Tour de France: Dates, times, schedule, how to watch, stream

Everything you need to know to catch this year's annual 21-stage bicycling competition.

For 108 years, the Tour de France has served as the greatest test of man and his mastery of the bicycle that there is. And this year, the race is back yet again. One of the three Grand Tours in cycling, the Tour de France has once again attracted many of the best cyclists from around the world for its annual 21 stage, 23 day challenge.

This year, there are some differences in how the Tour is being conducted: Traditionally held throughout July, the race has been moved from June 26 to July 18 in order to avoid overlapping with the Tokyo Olympics. And due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the race has been moved from Copenhagen to Brest.

Saturday's Grand Départ saw one of the most bizarre moments in the race's history. While Julian Alaphilipe won the first stage, opening day was marred by a massive accident that occurred when an overzealous fan held a cardboard sign too far out into the groove, tripping up Tony Martin and causing a massive pileup of bicycles and humanity.

STAMFORD, Conn. – June 22, 2023 – NBC Sports will present three weeks of wall-to-wall live and encore coverage of the 110 th Tour de France across Peacock, NBC and USA Network from July 1-23.

Daily live coverage of the Tour de France, featuring all 21 stages, begins Saturday, July 1, at 6 a.m. ET on Peacock with the Tour de France Pre-Race Show , followed by Stage 1 at 6:30 a.m. ET on Peacock and continuing at 8 a.m. ET on Peacock and NBC.

The first weekday stage begins Monday, July 3, with live race coverage beginning on Peacock at 6:50 a.m. ET and continuing at 8 a.m. ET on Peacock and USA Network.

Coverage throughout each day of the 21-stage event begins with the  Tour de France Pre-Race Show on Peacock, followed by live race coverage. Final weekend coverage culminates on Saturday, July 22, with Stage 20 live on Peacock at 7:30 a.m. ET, and final stage coverage on Sunday, July 23, live on Peacock at 10 a.m. ET. NBC will present encore coverage of the final stage at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Peacock will stream live start-to-finish coverage of every stage of the 2023 Tour de France, featuring NBC Sports-produced coverage, as well as commentary from the world feed. Peacock will also feature full-stage replays, highlights, stage recaps, rider interviews, and more.

2023 TOUR DE FRANCE

The 2023 Tour de France will cover a total distance of approximately 2,115 miles, beginning in Bilbao, Spain, and finishing 22 days later in Paris.

Expected yellow jersey frontrunners in this year’s field include defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Team Jumbo-Visma) of Denmark and two-time champion and 2022 runner-up Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) of Slovenia, who won this year’s Paris-Nice. Green jersey contenders expected to compete include Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal-QuickStep), Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Dstny), Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who won two stages last year, and seven-time Tour de France points classification winner Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies). Reigning green jersey winner Wout van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) is also expected to compete.

Aiming to make Tour de France history, 34-time stage winner Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan Team) looks to break a tie with Belgian legend Eddy Merckx (34) for the most stage wins in race history.

Americans expected to participate in this year’s Tour de France include 2021 stage winner Sepp Kuss (Team Jumbo-Visma), who helped chaperone Primož Roglič to victory at the 2023 Giro d’Italia, Neilson Powless (EF Education-EasyPost), who finished 12 th overall last year, Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar), Lawson Craddock (Team Jayco AlUla), and Joe Dombrowski (Astana Qazaqstan Team).

COMMENTATORS

NBC Sports’ cycling play-by-play caller Phil Liggett , universally known as the ‘voice of cycling,’ will cover his 51st Tour de France alongside analyst Bob Roll . Liggett and Roll will be on-site at each stage, along with reporters Steve Porino and former professional cyclist Christian Vande Velde .

Paul Burmeister will host daily pre-race and post-race studio coverage alongside Sam Bewley and Brent Bookwalter , who make their NBC Sports debuts as cycling analysts .

PRODUCTION HIGHLIGHTS

NBC Sports will integrate several features into its coverage of this year’s Tour de France:

• ‘Team Radio’ Audio : For the first time, NBC Sports will present select ‘Team Radio’ audio during the broadcast, playing clips of the communication between team directors and riders throughout the race
• NBC Sports will utilize a cutting edge “Virtual” graphics Telestrator, which debuted throughout the 2019 Tour de France and produces augmented reality cyclist graphics for the commentators to move and analyze
• The enhanced augmented reality features will include 3-D animated maps that track where the riders are in real time on the route and profile the stage terrain
• Vande Velde will have a camera focused on him as he reports to offer real-time updates on race situations, while traveling aboard a motorcycle on the course
• Real-time data of course gradients and the riders’ speeds

NBC Sports’ coverage will include real-time speeds of both the leaders and the peloton, and additional maps that show more detailed versions of the finishes and each mountain climb.

Coverage will also utilize several production enhancements and updated graphic elements, including a pointer feature to easily identify and focus on one rider in the peloton, and exclusive profiles on teams and riders.

You can watch the Tour de France on NBC , USA Network, and Peacock . You’ll get the most live coverage from Peacock, which streams every stage and the daily Tour de France Pre-Race Show . 2023 Tour de France Femmes schedule

Just as the men’s tour wraps up in Paris, the Tour de France Femmes takes off from Clermont-Ferrand. This is the second edition of the women’s race and features an eight-day route ending with an individual time trial in Pau.

A Peacock subscription is the best way to watch the Tour de France. Starting at $4.99 a month, the streaming service provides live and on-demand access to every stage of the men’s and women’s races. The most convenient way to watch the Tour de France for free is by using an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pick up your local NBC station. Unfortunately, NBC doesn’t show a lot of race coverage—mostly encore presentations of early and late stages. But it never hurts having an antenna in your TV setup.

If you don’t have an antenna, most cost between $20.00 and $60.00. We recommend the Mohu Leaf 50 for its 60-mile range and slim design. But you’ll want to verify the distance of your nearest NBC station by entering your zip code into the Federal Communications Commission’s Reception Map Tool . The 110th Tour de France will stream on Peacock and air on NBC and USA Network throughout July 2023. Peacock offers the best way to watch Le Tour because it streams every stage from beginning to end. It also carries the entire women’s race, which begins the same day as the men’s competition ends.

If you’re a cycling fan without access to fast and reliable internet, most cable and satellite TV services have NBC and USA Network. Those channels don’t show as much Tour de France coverage as Peacock, but you’ll still see the most vital moments of the race.

Tour de France 2023: How to watch, schedule, odds and storylines you need to know

The Tour de France returns Saturday for its 110th edition, this time beginning in Spain’s Basque Country, and will end on Sunday, July 23, in Paris. As always, the race — which recently got the “Drive to Survive”-style docuseries treatment on Netflix — will feature 21 stages. There will be eight flat stages, four hilly stages, eight mountain stages with four summit finishes, just one individual time trial (down from the usual two) and two rest days.

Here’s what you need to know to follow along:

How to watch the 2023 Tour de France

Peacock, NBC and USA Network will carry the Tour in the United States (NBC Sports and the Tour recently announced a six-year extension of their exclusive U.S. rights agreement, which now runs through 2029).

Peacock will stream every stage live and have daily pre-race shows. The streamer will also have stage replays, recaps, highlights, rider interviews and more, NBC Sports said.

Phil Liggett, a.k.a. “the voice of cycling,” will be on the call for his 51st tour, joined by analyst Bob Roll. Steve Porino and former professional cyclist Christian Vande Velde will also be reporting from on site, with the latter giving real-time updates while traveling the course on a motorcycle.

For the first time, NBC Sports’ broadcasts will feature clips from team radio, like communication between team directors and riders.

FloSports will stream the event in Canada.

How long is the Tour de France route?

This year’s route runs about 3,406 kilometers (about 2,116 miles). Stage 2, the longest single stage, is 209 km (about 130 miles).

The 22.4-km (about 14-mile) time trial will be held in the Alps in Stage 16.

How much money is on the line?

A total of €2.3 million (about $2.5 million) will be given out to the teams and riders, including €500,000 (about $546,000) to the winner of the overall individual classification.

How many riders are on the Tour?

Each of the 22 teams this year has eight riders, making for 176 total.

Riders to watch

This year is expected to be a two-man battle for the general classification between two-time winner Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), who emerged triumphant last year.

The 24-year-old Pogačar, regarded as the rider of his generation, was poised for a third straight title last year before Vingegaard, backed by a strong Jumbo-Visma squad, spoiled the campaign in the mountains. While the Slovenian Pogačar often has to fend for himself, the Danish Vingegaard, 26, has the backing of a “superteam” that includes do-it-all Belgian Wout van Aert and American Sepp Kuss to deliver him the yellow jersey.

Pogačar will undoubtedly be out for revenge, but questions are swirling about his fitness after he broke his wrist in a race earlier this year and had to miss some time. Whichever way the race goes, it’s always worth a reminder that this pair gave us an iconic moment of sportsmanship last year.

In the “last dance” category, we have British veteran Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), French fan favorite Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and Slovakian sprint star Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies). All three plan to retire after the 2023 season (though Sagan said he plans to compete in mountain biking at the Paris Olympics).

Cavendish, 38, has 34 stage wins on the Tour — tied for the most ever with Eddy Merckx (who reached the mark in 1975). Cavendish is seeking one last win in his 14th Tour to retire as the record-holder after sitting out last year.

The 33-year-old Pinot won the young rider classification in 2014 and has since won three stages, most recently in 2019 (when he had to abandon the race with two stages to go after tearing a leg muscle while in fifth place).

Sagan, 33, owns a record seven green jersey wins and has won 12 stages, the last coming in 2019.

Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers), the last man not named Pogačar or Vingegaard to win the Tour, will be in the peloton for the first time since 2020 after returning from a near-fatal crash in January 2022.

If you’ve followed the last few tours, you might also be wondering what’s up with Primož Roglič. The 2020 runner-up had to abandon the 2021 Tour before the ninth stage, and after starting the 2022 race as a Jumbo-Visma co-leader with Vingegaard, dropped out before the final rest day due to injuries. He did win the Giro d’Italia in May, but said he would take a break from racing to celebrate.

Beyond the general classification, you can monitor the additional races within the Tour: for the green jersey (points classification, generally considered a sprint competition) and polka dot jersey (king of the mountains).

The 110th iteration of the race once again sees the world's best cyclists, including defending champion Jonas Vingegaard, compete in a 24-day, 21-stage race, which this year goes from Bilbao, Spain, to Paris.

How to watch the Tour de France 2023 in the US

NBCUniversal has the broadcast and streaming rights to the Tour de France 2023 in the US. Peacock is set to stream every stage of the race live from its start, while specific details on traditional TV coverage for the Tour de France are going to be announced closer to the race, though last year NBC and USA Network split live coverage. 

Presuming that stays the case, to watch the NBC and USA coverage of the Tour de France, US viewers must be signed up to a pay-TV cable subscription service that carries NBC and USA (most do) or be a subscriber to a live TV streaming service with the networks, like FuboTV , Hulu with Live TV , Sling TV and YouTube TV . Households that utilize a TV antenna can pick up the NBC broadcasts of the race.

How to watch the Tour de France 2023 in the UK

There are going to be many options to watch the Tour de France in the UK, with ITV4, Eurosport, GCN+ and S4C set to cover the event.

ITV4 is free-to-air for all UK TV households and is providing live daily coverage and highlights of each stage.  S4C is also free, and it'll provide coverage in the Welsh language.

Eurosport channels 1 and 2 (channels 410 and 411 on Sky TV ) are also going to air the race, with streaming options available on Discovery Plus . Coverage is also going to be available on GCN Plus and S4C in Wales.

How to watch the Tour de France 2023 from anywhere

As we mentioned in the intro, Jonas Vingegaard is the defending Tour de France champion and is returning to the race this year to make it two in a row. He is widely viewed as one of the favorites, but who is best situated to challenge him?

According to What to Watch sister site CyclingNews , Vingegaard may not even be the favorite. They list Tadej Pogacar as their top pick to win the race. It certainly is a rivlary to watch between the two, as Vingegaard's win in 2022 prevented Pogacar from winning the race for the third straight year.

Other likely contenders include Mikel Landa, David Gaudu, Enric Mas, Richard Carapaz, Romain Bardet, Jai Hindley, Simon Yates and Dani Martinez.

I am a Senior Adult 84 YO. Stage IV Cancer, My husband died of a heart attack, I hv to live on just my SS. And cannot afford to pay to watch the Tour de France, I can only stretch my money so far.. shame on you for taking away my one joy..

You can watch it on the USA network. I refuse to pay to watch it on Peacock.

I think it is sad that we can’t watch the tour . Money is all people think of today.

You should broadcast on a regular cable TV station. Who wants to pay to stream!!! Certainly not seniors on a fixed income. That is terrible policy!

The 110th Tour de France cycles across the finish line tomorrow. All about the Tour de France

The first Tour de France was arranged by French newspaperman Henri Desgrange as a publicity stunt for his paper, L'Auto in 1903. The race featured 60 riders covering more than a 1,000 miles. that proved highly popular among spectators along the route .The race was also a huge success for L'Auto whose circulation rose from 25,000 to 65,000 that year. Except for two World Wars, the Tour de France has been held almost every year since. While spectacular scandals have rocked the race of late, the Tour de France has been no stranger to poor sportsmanship over the years. In fact, during the early days rampant cheating was common, along with sporadic rioting among spectators who often favored one rider over another.

Today, almost 200 riders make up the 22 teams that participate in the world's biggest annual sporting event covering some 2,000 miles. Throughout the race's 21 stages, the strongest rider is protected by other members of the team through stretches of terrain that vary greatly from flat, to hilly, to extremely steep and mountainous.

Along the way, riders are rewarded with color-coded jerseys with special significance. The green jersey signifies who's the fastest sprinter. The white jersey goes to the youngest biker, usually an emerging star under 25. The red-and-white polka dot jersey is awarded to the "King of the Mountain" or best uphill climber.

Near the end of the race, the overall leader gets to wear the coveted yellow jersey and to ultimately claim victory -- and the €450,000 euro prize money -- as he crosses the finish line in Paris.

NBC Sports airs daily, start-to-finish coverage of the 107th Tour de France, running two months later than usual due to a coronavirus pandemic-forced postponement.

On TV, NBC, NBCSN and CNBC combine to broadcast all 21 stages of the three-week Grand Tour, which starts in Nice and finishes on Paris’ Champs-Élysées.

NBC Sports Gold and Peacock Premium live stream daily coverage, too, including nearly 20 bonus hours and commercial-free coverage for Gold “Cycling Pass” subscribers. Gold subscribers can also live stream La Course, a one-day women’s race, on Aug. 29 at 4 a.m. ET.

Slovakian Peter Sagan looks to extend his record of seven Tour de France sprinter titles and earn at least one stage victory for a fifth straight year.

Longtime Tour broadcast host Phil Liggett returns, as does analyst Bob Roll . They will call the race remotely from Sky Sports in Great Britain and NBC Sports in Stamford, Conn., respectively. Paul Burmeister hosts daily pre- and post-race studio coverage from Stamford with past Grand Tour riders Christian Vande Velde and Chris Horner .
