‘The Visit’ Ending Explained: Family Reunions Can Be Torture

What's wrong with Grandma?

The Big Picture

  • In M. Night Shyamalan's The Visit , the main characters discover that the grandparents they are staying with are actually dangerous imposters.
  • The twist is revealed when the children's mother realizes that the people claiming to be their grandparents are strangers who have assumed their identities.
  • The climax of the film involves a tense and dangerous confrontation between the children and the imposters, resulting in the reveal of the true identities of the grandparents.

M. Night Shyamalan is considered a master at delivering drop-your-popcorn-level twisty conclusions to his haunting films. People still talk about the end of The Sixth Sense as perhaps one of the greatest twists in the history of modern cinema. The jaw-dropper at the end of Unbreakable ranks close to the top as well. But there is another pretty decent curveball that the director tosses up in a lesser-known movie that is currently streaming on Max. In 2016's The Visit (which is currently streaming on Max ) he plays on the hallowed relationship between children and their doting grandparents. How could Shyamalan toy with the innocence of this? It is an excellent film that deftly blends found footage with the director's signature slow-burning tension to leave audiences with yet another "WTF?" moment . Let's dig into what exactly happens at the end of his underrated movie, The Visit .

Two siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents' disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.

What is 'The Visit' About?

Young Becca Jamison ( Olivia DeJonge ) and little brother Tyler ( Ed Oxenbould ) are sent away by their divorced mother Loretta ( Kathryn Hahn ) to finally meet and spend some time with their grandparents , Frederick, or Pop Pop ( Peter McRobbie ), and Maria, better known as Nana ( Deanna Dunagan ). They have a nice rural estate away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and it feels like this is going to be a heartwarming story of two generations of the Jamisons getting to know each other. It seems a bit odd that these two preteens have yet to meet their maternal grandparents, but Shyamalan explains that nicely in the first few scenes: Loretta has had a years-long falling out with her parents after leaving the family farm at the age of 19.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Eerie Found Footage Horror Movie Deserves Another Look

Loretta is still estranged from her parents but she wants her children to have a relationship with them — she only wants to go on a cruise with her new boyfriend and needs someone to watch the kids. So, the children have no idea what their Nana and Pop Pop actually look like. And you can feel something amiss from the very beginning of the film as the two precocious but excited kids set off to meet their grandparents. The entire film is told through the kids' (mainly Becca, an aspiring filmmaker) camcorder, as they have decided to document their trip. It's clear right away that Becca resents her father as a result of his abandonment, as she refuses to include any footage of her dad in her film.

Shyamalan Expertly Builds Tension in 'The Visit'

Upon the kids' arrival, Nana and Pop Pop seem like regular grandparents with regular questions like, "Do you like sports?" and "Why are your pants so low?" Nana tends to the chores like cooking and cleaning while Pop Pop handles the more rugged work outdoors like cutting wood. Naturally, Shyamalan tightens the screws immediately when the audience discovers that there is little to no cell phone reception, so he can isolate our four players into a single space. The Grandparents seem fairly easygoing but they have one strict rule — the kids must not come out of their bedroom after 9:30 pm. The very first night, Nana exhibits some bizarre behavior, walking aimlessly through the downstairs portion of the house and vomiting on the floor. However, the next morning she seems to be just fine.

Pop Pop explains to Becca and Tyler that she suffers from "sundowning" which is a very real diagnosis that usually affects the elderly . He tells them that at night Nana gets this feeling that something is in her body and just wants to get out. Pop Pop is clear and coherent, and yet again, we, along with our two young lead characters, assume the grandparents, while odd, are nothing to fear. A Zoom call with Loretta further assuages their fear by explaining away all the strange behavior as part of getting older. It's a back-and-forth that Shyamalan expertly navigates by pushing the audience only so far before reeling it back in with a logical explanation. But soon, things become inexplicably dire and dangerous.

"What's in the shed?" Tyler asks as he looks into the camera while contributing to Becca's documentary . "Is it dead bodies?" What he discovers is a pile of used, discarded adult diapers filled with Pop Pop's excrement. The smell sends Tyler reeling, and he falls out of the shed onto the snowy ground. This time, it's Nana who explains away Pop Pop's odd behavior. She tells her grandson that Pop Pop has incontinence and is so proud that he hides his waste in the shed. At this point, everything seems very odd to say the least, but there is nothing to suggest anything sinister is afoot . Not yet anyway. Even after he attacks a random stranger who he believes is watching him out on the streets on a trip into town, you still just think that maybe Pop Pop may just have a loose screw. However, the sense that these elderly people are something more than doting parents is intensified when Nana leaves Becca inside the oven for several seconds.

What Is the Twist at the End of 'The Visit'?

"Those aren't your grandparents?" Get the heck out of here! What?! Loretta finally sees the two people claiming to be her parents and tells Becca and Tyler via Skype that they aren't their beloved Nana and Pop Pop, but two complete strangers who have assumed their identities. Loretta immediately calls the police, but it will take hours for help to arrive at the remote farmhouse. Becca and Tyler are going to have to play along with these dangerous imposters. After the most tense and awkward game of Yahtzee in the history of board games, things get really, really ugly. Nana and Pop Pop haven't laid a hand on either of the kids in the movie so far. You can feel the slow and excruciating tension that Shyamalan is building . He knows that the audience is waiting for that "point of no return" moment when it is crystal clear that Becca and Tyler's lives are in danger. Becca manages to escape to the basement to discover the dead bodies of two elderly people murdered. Nana and Pop Pop are escaped mental patients from the nearby psychiatric hospital and have killed the real Jamison grandparents.

What Happens at the End of 'The Visit'?

Pop Pop realizes their cover is blown and becomes physical with Becca. He's upset that Becca is ruining Nana's perfect week as a grandmother. He tells her, "We're all dying today, Becca!" pushing her into a pitch-black upstairs room. Meanwhile, he grabs Tyler and takes him into the kitchen, and does one of the most foul and stomach-turning things ever in a Shyamalan film . He takes his used diaper and shoves it in the boy's face. He knows that Tyler is a germaphobe, and it is the most diabolical and traumatizing thing he could do to the boy. Becca is trapped upstairs with the sundowning Nana, fighting for her own life. After a struggle, Becca grasps a shard of glass from the broken mirror and is able to stab Nana multiple times in the gut.

She breaks the lock on the door and runs downstairs to help Tyler. She pulls "Pop Pop" off her traumatized younger brother. Suddenly, Tyler snaps out of his stupor and releases the pent-up anger of his football tackling lessons with his estranged father. He knocks Pop Pop to the ground and slams the refrigerator door on his head over and over . This is significant because earlier in the movie, Becca ribs Tyler about how he froze up during a big play in a youth football game, and this time he comes through to save Becca in the final kitchen scene conquering his biggest fears.

Loretta and the police arrive and the kids run frantically out of the house. The final scene has Loretta setting the record straight for the documentary about the traumatic moments surrounding her running away from home. 15 years before the events of the film, before Becca was born, Loretta fell out with her parents over her decision to marry her teacher. The argument led to Loretta and her parents getting physical with each other, and she left home that night and never responded to their attempts and pleas to reconnect. It's the most emotional scene in the film as Loretta is feeling a huge amount of guilt at never getting to say she was sorry for the strained relationship between her and her parents or getting to possibly hear an apology for the wrongs they also committed. Loretta tells Becca "Don't hold on to anger! You hear me?" The two then share a meaningful embrace. And the final shot is of the two kids with their dad on a birthday when they were much younger.

The Visit is available to stream on Max in the U.S.

Every Character M. Night Shyamalan Played In His Own Movies

The first "found footage" movie came 38 years before the blair witch project, how many m. night shyamalan movies really have twists.

  • "The Visit" is a twist-filled thriller that earned its scares through a plausible story and clever use of found footage genre.
  • Despite being eerily plausible, "The Visit" is actually a work of pure fiction and not based on a true story.
  • The film explores themes of aging, fear, and generational trauma, while also highlighting the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.

M. Night Shyamalan's twist-filled thriller The Visit kept viewers guessing all the way up to the shocking conclusion, but is the found footage horror hit based on a true story? Released in 2015, The Visit follows teen siblings Becca (Olivia DeJonge) and Tyler (Ed Oxenbould) as they are sent to spend a week with their estranged grandparents. Naturally, strange things are afoot, and the teens must learn the shocking truth about their relatives. As with all of Shyamalan's horror movies, The Visit built up to a shocking twist that many didn't see coming, but it cleverly incorporated humor in a way that left many perplexed by its tone.

Despite a largely mixed critical reaction (via Rotten Tomatoes ), The Visit was a bona fide financial success (via Box Office Mojo ) and it stands as one of M. Night Shyamalan's highest-grossing movies . Unlike many of Shyamalan's other films which incorporate fantastical elements, The Visit earned its scares by being an entirely plausible story. Visually speaking, Shyamalan used the found footage genre deftly to convey a deeper meaning, and he got genuinely creepy moments from what could have easily been goofy. The compelling mix of plausibility and realism had many wondering whether The Visit was actually based on a true story.

Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has played characters in 11 of his movies, ranging from starring roles to the smallest of cameos.

The Visit Is Not Based On A True Story

Despite being eerily plausible, The Visit was actually a work of pure fiction and had no connection to real life. The script was penned by M. Night Shyamalan himself, with many of the movie's more positive reviews calling it a return to his former glory. Nearly all the writer/director's films have been works of his own imagination and in an interview with Geeks of Doom he said " That is the primal thing of it, that we are scared of getting old. Playing on that is a powerful conceit ". The director would return to that theme a few years later in 2021's Old but to a less effective extent.

The Grandparents Twist Explained

Throughout the film, Becca and Tyler are unsure about the behavior of their Pop Pop (Peter McRobbie) and Nana (Deana Dunagan), who have seemingly grown worse as the story progresses. Obviously, something wasn't right about the elderly couple, but the pieces finally clicked when Becca discovered the remains of her real grandparents stashed away in the basement. It is revealed that Pop Pop and Nana are actually escaped patients from the local mental health facility and that they have killed Becca and Tyler's grandparents to assume their lives. It is unclear whether the two escapees would have posed a threat to the kids if they hadn't nosed around.

If there is one thing that the multi-talented Shyamalan is best known for it is his films' abundant use of shocking twists towards the end of his stories. Nearly every M. Night Shyamalan twist has kept audiences guessing, and The Visit was unique because it truly earned its shocking climax. Unlike earlier films which stuck a twist in just to fulfill the obligation, The Visit naturally built towards the twist, and it was a crucial part of the plot, unlike so many throw-away gimmick twists of the past.

Why The Visit Is A Found Footage Movie

Thanks to blockbuster horror hits like Paranormal Activity , the found footage genre started to expand in earnest at the beginning of the 2010s. However, by 2015 and the release of The Visit , the style had largely fallen out of favor. Despite this downturn in popularity, The Visit nevertheless opted for an approach that innovated the found footage tropes by injecting a bit of humor and eschewing the self-serious tone. From a story perspective, The Visit is a found footage movie because it is about Becca's quest to chronicle her family for a documentary, but the choice actually goes deeper.

Unlike other directors who chose found footage as a cheap way to save on the movie's budget, Shyamalan intellectualized the style by making it crucial to the plot. In the same Geeks of Doom interview, the director mentioned " The camera is an extension of those characters...It is manifesting in literal cinematography in this particular movie ". Additionally, Becca's abundant camera usage actually factors into the plot, such as when she shows the footage to her mother, which further integrates it into the fabric of the film.

The Blair Witch Project was key in the history of the found-footage technique, but the very first movie to use this style was released in 1961.

The Significance Of Tyler’s Phobias

Horror movies are all about exploiting common phobias , and The Visit used Tyler's irrational fears as a chance to spook viewers and say something about the themes as well. Tyler is shown to be a bit of a germaphobe, and he also has a fear of freezing to death. While both have rational elements and point back to the omnipresent fear of death from which all phobias stem, Tyler's fears also speak to the idea that the elderly are frightening because they are reminders of death. The slow degradation of the body through aging is a lot like freezing to death, and it is clear that Tyler sees his elderly grandparents as unclean which activates his germ phobia.

The hilariously gruesome scene in which Pop Pop rubs his dirty adult diaper in Tyler's face forces the younger man to confront his fears, and it empowers him later when he finally dispatches the imposter grandpa. It is likely not a coincidence that Tyler kills Pop Pop by slamming his head in the refrigerator, as the ice box is an extension of Tyler's fear of freezing. He literally kills his tormentor with a symbol of the thing that mentally torments him.

How Loretta’s Past Affected The Kids

At the beginning of the film, Becca and Tyler's mom Loretta (Kathryn Hahn) explains that she hasn't spoken to her parents in 15 years because she eloped with one of her high school teachers when she was only a teenager. Instead of facing her problems like an adult, Loretta instead allowed her kids to act as a bridge between the generations, inadvertently sending them to live with two violent escapees from the local mental health ward. Loretta would later reveal that Nana and Pop Pop aren't her parents in one of Shyamalan's most terrifying scares , but she was away on a cruise and couldn't come to their aid.

This forces her kids to mature faster than she ever could, and they go on the offense as they are tasked with escaping from the murderous impostors occupying their grandparent's home. At the end of the film, Loretta explains her last interaction with her parents turned violent, which sheds a bit of light on why she couldn't just face up to the past. In some ways, Loretta's choices as a teenager eventually led to the precarious situation that Becca and Tyler ended up in, and she passed a bit of generational trauma on to them.

Why Becca Puts Her Father In The Documentary

Having survived the harrowing ordeal, Becca's documentary finally begins to take shape at the very end of The Visit . She is given the chance to cut in footage of her estranged father, and though Loretta informs her she doesn't have to, Becca opts to put him in. This choice shows that Becca has matured significantly since the titular visit, and she has come to the realization that forgiveness really is the best path. Loretta could never forgive her parents, and it robbed her of a chance for reconciliation. By putting her dad in the documentary, Becca left that door open for her future self and maybe her own children too.

M. Night Shyamalan is famous for his signature twist endings but when put under a more discerning lens, not all of his films have an authentic twist.

The Real Meaning Of The Visit’s Ending

From a horror perspective, the ending of The Visit is all about the fear of death as personified by the elderly. Nana and Pop Pop are terrifying embodiments of the eventual degradation of the body, though they also fill the role of the conventional horror antagonist. However, from a more thematic side, The Visit is also about forgiveness and reconciliation, as the harboring of deep-seated pain can eventually lead to a bad outcome. Even if it isn't literally an encounter with escaped murderers, it is at least a path of nothing but pain and loss.

M. Night Shyamalan's The Visit Ending, Explained

M. Night Shyamalan's horror movies often include a fun twist, and his 2016 release The Visit has a compelling ending with one of the coolest reveals.

M. Night Shyamalan's twist endings are the hallmark of his career, and his 2015 movie The Visit has one of the most exciting ones. Olivia DeJonge, beloved for playing Ashley in the twisted Christmas horror film Better Watch Out, stars as Becca, a teenage girl who stays with her grandparents alongside her brother Tyler (Ed Oxenbould). What should be a fun and peaceful family vacation becomes a perplexing and mysterious nightmare and the teenagers must scramble to discover the dark and haunting truth.

The M. Night Shyamalan horror movie has an exciting ending that shifts the audience's perception of the story, proving once again that the filmmaker is great at providing surprising moments that no one sees coming. The final scenes of The Visit make this one of the most unnerving horror movies of the 2010s.

What Happens At The End Of The Visit, And What Is The Twist Ending?

Becca falls into the final girl horror movie trope when she makes an important discovery that is key to the ending of The Visit . When she discovers the dead bodies of her and Ed's grandparents, she also sees uniforms from the hospital where they were employed. This helps her see that "Nana" and "Pop Pop" were patients who ran away, killed their grandparents, and pretended to be them. This is a huge plot twist that was hard to see coming.

The satisfying horror movie ending has the siblings fighting back, but the final scenes are tense and scary, and their survival never feels like a guarantee. Pop Pop locks Becca in her room and hurts Tyler, but Tyler kills Pop Pop and Becca kills Nana. The teenagers are able to get away and talk to the police about what just happened.

The Visit ending works on two levels: a fast-paced, thrilling example of a good horror movie plot twist and also an emotional story about family bonds and problems. Becca and her mom Loretta (Kathryn Hayn) have a tough conversation about how Loretta never talked to her parents after a fight 15 years prior. Loretta wants Becca to stop feeling anger about her own dad's decision to leave the family behind, and the two characters share a sweet moment that helps Becca move forward.

This adds an extra layer to the movie and makes Becca a more fully formed character. It also makes both Becca and Ed feel real since they may be dealing with this out-of-this-world situation, but they are also regular teenagers who feel the pain of a parent who doesn't show them the love that they deserve. While Shyamalan's movie Old is a bad adaptation , The Visit shares that sometimes, it can be difficult to get along with family and it can be tough to move on from past hurts. The movie may have a fun and flashy twist, but it has some deep moments as well that can't be ignored.

How Does This Twist Compare To Others In M. Night Shyamalan Horror Movies?

The Visit ending has one of the best and most unpredictable horror movie plot twists , which makes sense given M. Night Shyamalan's reputation for having shocking moments in most of his films. When comparing the reveal of the identity of "Nana" and "Pop Pop," it's fun to think about the other big reveals in the filmmaker's career. Of course, the standard will always be the twist in the important horror movie The Sixth Sense when it turns out that Dr. Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is actually dead and that's one reason for his sweet bond with Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment).

The twist at the end of The Visit might not be quite as stunning as the one in The Sixth Sense , which will always be one of the best horror movie plot twists as it creates such a compelling atmosphere of shock and awe.

However, The Visit still has a fresh and different ending and the final scenes prove the strong character development of the movie. At first, Pop Pop and Nana seem perfectly normal and innocent, and no one would think that grandparents would be evil. And even when Becca and Ed start noticing weird things, it's hard to think that these characters might not be who they are claiming to be. That would mean that they are truly evil and diabolical, and they seem so naive.

The Visit twist ending also works because it's so creepy. Like Pearl (Mia Goth) and Howard (Stephen Ure) in X and Pearl , the patients lying about their identities are definitely unsettling. The movies make sure that the characters are odd and mysterious, but they never seem like they could be killers until audiences finally see them causing havoc.

The Visit is one of the most unnerving and realistic horror stories. A good thing about classic horror movies is that, after the movie ends, you can switch it off and go to bed,  knowing that you’re safe . Vampires, ghosts, and demonic powers don’t exist, and even if you are prone to these kinds of esoteric beliefs, there are safeguards. If your home is not built in an Indian burial ground and you haven’t bought any creepy-looking dolls from your local antiquary, you’re perfectly safe.

However, what about the idea of two kids spending five days with two escaped psychiatric ward patients in a remote farmhouse? Now, this is a thought that will send shivers down your spine. It’s a story that sounds not just realistic but real. It’s  something that might have happened in the past  or might happen in the future.

This is  what  The Visit  is all about . This idea, coupled with documentary-form storytelling, is why the movie is so unnerving to watch.

The Visit: Plot Explained

Loretta’s past.

As a young girl, Loretta Jamison fell in love with her high school teacher and decided to skip her hometown with him. Before leaving, she had a heated altercation with her parents and hasn’t seen them since. At the movie’s start, she is a single mom of 15-year-old Becca and 14-year-old Tyler, and she  hasn’t spoken to her parents in 15 years .

What really happened on the day Loretta left?

Loretta’s mom tries to stop her from leaving the house, and Loretta hits her mom, and her dad hits her. Soon after, her parents try to reach out to Loretta, but she refuses to take their calls, and years go by.

Meet The Grandparents

Years later, Loretta’s parents reach out to  meet their grandchildren . The grandparents are, seemingly, wholly reformed and now even help at the local psychiatric hospital. Although initially not too fond of the idea, Loretta is persuaded by the insistence of her children. While she had no intention of visiting the parents, she permitted her children to pay their grandparents a five-day visit.

At The Grandparents’

Their first meeting with Nana and Pop Pop starts on the right foot. They start getting to know each other, and other than a simple generational gap, nothing seems too strange. The only thing that seems off is that they are warned  not to leave the room after 9:30 in the evening .

The kids break this rule, and on the first night, they notice  Nana acting erratically , projectile vomiting, scratching wallpaper with her bare hands, and running around the house on all fours. Grandpa appears paranoid and hides his adult diapers in the garden shed, and the situation escalates each day.

The Visit Ending Explained: What happens in the end?

Tyler Becca mother ending explained

The ending of Visit has the kids finally showing the elderly couple to Loretta. She, completely horrified, states that  those are not her parents . The pair posing as Pop Pop and Nana are escaped psychiatric institution patients who murdered their grandparents and took their places.

The kids survive, kill their captors, and are found alive and well by their mom and the police. Becca kills Nana with a shard from the mirror, thus symbolically overcoming her fear of her reflection. Tyler kills Pop Pop by repeatedly slamming him in the head with a refrigerator door after overcoming his germaphobia and anxiety about freezing.

The Sense Of Dread

The elements of horror in this movie are just  perfectly executed . First of all, the film is shot as a documentary. Becca is an aspiring filmmaker who records the entire trip with her camera. From time to time, we see an interview of all the characters, which just serves as the perfect vessel for characterization.

No Ghouls or Cults

Another thing that evokes dread is  realism . There are no supernatural beings or demonic forces. It’s just two kids alone in a remote farmstead with two creepy, deranged people. Even in the end, when Loretta finds out what’s happening, it takes her hours to get there with the police. The scariest part is that it’s not that hard to imagine something along those lines really happening.

The  house itself is dread-inducing . The place is old and rustic. Like in The Black Phone soundproofing a room  could have prevented kids from hearing Nana rummaging around the house without a clear idea of what was happening, but this was not the case, as the old couple weren’t that capable.

The  characters  themselves  are perfectly played . Something is unnerving about Pop Pop and Nana from the very first scene. It’s the Uncanny Valley scenario where you feel that something’s off and shakes you to the core, but you have no idea what it is.

Separation, Remorse, and Personal Fears

Suspecting the grand parents

What this movie does the best is explore the  ugly side of separation, old grudges, and remorse . The main reason why kids are insistent on visiting their grandparents is out of their desire to help their mom.

They see she’s remorseful for never  working things out with her parents . In light of her failed marriage and the affair that caused it to end, she might live with the doubt that her parents were right all along. This makes her decision and altercation with her parents even worse. Reconciling when you know you were wrong is harder than forgiving the person who wronged you.

The Kids’ Perspective

There are personal fears and  traumas of the kids . Tyler, in his childish naivete, is convinced that his father left because he was disappointed in him as a son. Tyler tells Becca that he froze during one game he played, which disappointed his dad so much that he had to leave. While this sounds ridiculous to any adult (and even Becca), it’s a matter of fact to Tyler. As a result of this trauma, Tyler also developed germaphobia. In Becca’s own words, this gives him a greater sense of control.

On the other hand,  Becca refuses to look at herself in the mirror  or stand in front of the camera if she can help it. Both kids  had to overcome their fears to survive , which is a solid and clear metaphor for how these things sometimes turn out in real life.

Frequently Asked Questions Answered

The visit: what’s wrong with the grandparents who are the grandparents.

The people who hosted Becca and Tyler were runaway psychiatric hospital patients who murdered the real grandparents and took their place. Nana’s impostor (Claire) was actually responsible for murdering her children by drowning them in a well. Pop Pop’s impostor (Mitchell) wanted to give Claire a second chance at having kids / being a grandparent.

How did the imposter grandparents know about the kids’ visit?

It appears Claire and Mitchell hear the real Nana and Pop Pop brag about their grandkids’ visit. They also learned that neither the grandparents nor the kids had seen each other. The real grandparents appear to have been consulting in the same hospital Claire and Mitchell were being treated. The two crazies take this opportunity to break out, kill the real grandparents and go to the station to pick up the children.

The Visit: What is Sinmorfitellia?

Claire and Mitchell believe that Sinmorfitellia is an alien planet, and the creatures from there lurk on Earth. They spit into the waters of wells and ponds all day, which can put people into a deep sleep. They take  sleeping with the fishes  quite literally. Long ago, Claire drowned her children believing they would go to Sinmorfitellia.

The Visit: What happened to the real grandparents?

Claire and Mitchel killed Nana and Pop Pop and put them in the basement. This information went unnoticed because Becca’s laptop’s camera was damaged by Nana, so Loretta could not confirm the imposters. Claire and Mitchel were not present every time someone came to visit, so no one suspected foul play except Stacey, who received help from the real grandparents. As a result, she is killed.

What did Claire and Mitchel intend to do?

They plan to go to Sinmorfitellia with Becca and Tyler. They all plan to die on that last night and enter the well, which they believe is their path to the alien planet where they can be happy together. This is perhaps why the grandparents hang Stacey outside the house because they don’t care about being caught.

The Visit: What’s wrong with Nana?

We don’t know what caused Nana’s mental illness, but she was crazy enough to kill her two children by putting them in suitcases and drowning them in a pond. It appears she suffers from schizophrenia as she has delusions.

The Visit: Wrap Up

From the standpoint of horror, The Visit has it all. An unnerving realistic scenario, real-life trauma, and an atmosphere of fear. Combine this with  some of the best acting work in the genre  and a documentary-style movie, and you’ve got yourself a real masterpiece.

On the downside, the movie leaves you with a lot of open questions like:

  • Considering the kids have never seen the grandparents and are going alone, Loretta didn’t ensure her kids knew what her parents looked like?
  • How are Claire and Mitchell out and about so close to the hospital without being caught?
  • Considering they are mentally ill, how did Claire and Mitchell plot such a thorough plan? (e.g. strategically damaging the camera of the laptop)
  • I understand  Suspension Of Disbelief  in horror films, but neither kids drop their cameras despite the terror they go through only so we, the audience, can get the entire narrative?

Let's Talk About The Ending Of 'The Visit'

the visit all endings

M. Night Shyamalan is back and he is out to let everyone know that he hasn't lost his touch when it comes to freaking audiences out. Sure, he's hit a couple of snags ( Lady In The Water, The Happening, After Earth ) since he set the bar high for himself with The Sixth Sense , but now he has The Visit — and everything you have heard about it is 100 percent true. You'll be sitting at the edge of your seat, thrilled to finally have a great project from the director that will make you jump out of your skin — especially when you get to the ending of The Visit , which, per usual for Shyamalan, contains a massive twist ( spoilers ahead!)

The movie goes back to a style of storytelling that made fans fall in love with Shyamalan in the first place. There's suspense, insane moments that will make you squirm, and unnerving moments that will make you jump. But the best part of The Visit is the big twist ending that makes it an instant Shyamalan classic. But before you get to the very end, some background: using a found footage approach (that actually works, for once), the movie follows young documentarian Becca (Olivia DeJonge) and her germaphobe/rapping brother Tyler (Ed Oxenbould) as they visit their Nana (Deanna Dunagan) and Pop Pop (Peter McRobbie), who they soon discover are not your normal set of grandparents.

On a trip to the kitchen for a late night snack, Becca sees Nana walking aimlessly and vomiting. When she questions her grandfather the next day, he insists that Nana had a stomach bug and wasn't feeling well. Becca shrugs it off, but in the next couple of days and nights more crazy things start to happen: Nana running crazily around the house, creepy noises, clawing at the house. There are hints that more is wrong — at one point, a doctor from the mental hospital the grandparents volunteer at stops by to check on them and wonders why they haven't been coming in for the scheduled shifts — but it takes a Skype session with the kids' mom for the really crazy stuff to begin.

Here's where the trademark Shyamalan material starts: when the kids show their mom the grandparents over Skype, the mom quickly realizes that Nana and Pop-Pop are not her parents. They are crazy people posing as Nana and Pop Pop, and so she immediately leaves home to go rescue her kids. Yet in the meantime, Becca finds the dead bodies of her real grandparents, a bloody hammer, and uniforms from the local mental hospital they volunteer at in the basement. When you put two and two together, you realize that the imposters escaped from the mental hospital and killed the grandparents in order to assume their identities and live a "normal" family life.

Fake Pop Pop catches Becca and locks her in a room with fake Nana, who at this point is full-out insane. Meanwhile, the fake grandfather tortures Tyler in the kitchen... with one of his adult diapers. It isn't a pretty sight. There is a violent scuffle in the dark between fake Nana and Becca, which ends with Nana stabbed to death by a mirror shard. Becca breaks out of the room to save her brother, but gets knocked down. Yet Tyler finds enough adrenaline to tackle fake Pop Pop to the ground and bash him to death with the refrigerator door. At the end of it all, they run outside to conveniently find the police and their mom there to rescue them.

The epilogue is the same shot as the beginning of the movie: Becca, interviewing her mom on camera, and opening up about her childhood. The movie ends on a light note, with Tyler rapping through the end credits — but that doesn't mean that some of these horrifying scenes won't be burned into your memory forever.

The Talos Principle 2 Ending Guide

A lot of elements in The Talos Principle 2 influence the ending you'll see, and they're not all puzzles you need to solve

By Phil Hornshaw on November 9, 2023 at 4:28PM PST

Though The Talos Principle 2 is an excellent puzzle game, it also has a pretty extensive and branching story. As you explore its world, you'll have plenty of opportunities to interact with other characters, offer them your opinions, and even post on social media. The whole game concerns some philosophical debates about the future of humanity and its place in the world, and your conversation choices about those debates will shape parts of the narrative as you advance.

There are three main endings for The Talos Principle 2, as well as several additions and variations you can trigger under the right circumstances. Here's a complete guide for how to get each of the endings and the optional scenes, with as few spoilers as we can manage.

Main Endings - The Final Choice

Completing the main story requires finishing eight puzzles in each of The Talos Principle's 12 areas, allowing you to enter the megastructure a total of four times. Throughout the game, you'll talk to Prometheus, Pandora, and the Sphinx, who all represent a different philosophical approach to what New Jerusalem's future should look like.

When you enter the megastructure one final time, you'll make a choice about what to do with the machine. There are three options, each corresponding to one of the three figures, and each unlocks one of the main endings. There are several small variations based on what you've done along the way, but these three endings are the main pieces of the epilogue.

  • Leap of Faith - Choose to use the machine for the betterment of New Jerusalem (Prometheus ending)
  • Momentum Deferred - Choose to shut the machine down because humanity isn't ready (Sphinx ending)
  • Certain Fathoms in the Earth - Choose to destroy the machine (Pandora ending)

In addition to the main ending choices, how you deal with different elements of the story will change the outcomes for various characters.

No Caption Provided

After completing your fourth journey into the megastructure, you'll awaken to find out that an election has taken place while you were shut down. There are several outcomes that election can have, and they'll affect some aspects of the ending cutscenes as well.

There are a lot of choices to make throughout the course of The Talos Principle 2, and it's a bit tough to narrow down exactly which ones are important to changing the outcome of the election. Generally, though, you can shape the attitudes of New Jerusalem through your social media responses and conversations. Like the main endings, there are three main variations.

  • Hermanubis stays mayor - Make generally conservative choices in conversations and social media posts. Choose options that see the Goal in a positive light and that are anti-growth for New Jerusalem. Choose to share the information from the Somnodrome with the people. Hold back the information from the Somnodrome from the rest of New Jerusalem.
  • Byron is elected mayor - Make generally progressive choices in conversations and social media posts. Choose options that promote growth and see the Goal as negative and stagnating for New Jerusalem. When you talk to Hermanubis before boarding the VTOL, tell him you thought the Goal was a myth that hurt humanity. Share the information from the Somnodrome with the people.
  • Rand is elected mayor - Make more cautious, middle-of-the-road choices in conversations and social media posts. Hermanubis before boarding the VTOL, tell him you thought the Goal was a myth that hurt humanity. Cautiously share the information from the Somnodrome with the people.

The mayor will appear in the different epilogues and you'll sometimes get different dialogue depending on who is in charge and what final choice you make.

Golden Gate Puzzles

No Caption Provided

There are 12 additional, high-level puzzles that can only be unlocked by completing every other main puzzle in each of The Talos Principle 2's areas--not just the eight you need to access the tower, but the unconnected "bonus" puzzles in each area as well.

Completing all 120 normal puzzles unlocks one Golden Gate puzzle in each area. They're tougher to solve than anything else in the game. If you complete all 12, a final Golden Gate unlocks back at the megastructure location. If you head in there, you'll have an opportunity to complete another activity and complete some dialogue. We won't spoil what it unlocks, but it significantly changes all three endings, and will even add some extra scenes.

Yaqut's Epilogue

No Caption Provided

If you complete the Golden Gate puzzles, you can unlock an additional epilogue scene for Yaqut as well. We're not entirely sure what is required to unlock it because of a bug in our playthrough, but we have a pretty good idea.

After your fourth venture into the megastructure, you'll return to New Jerusalem before making a final venture back to the island for The Talos Principle 2's endgame. At that point, you'll talk to the other members of your expedition to see if they want to accompany you on the final trip.

You want Yaqut to come with you for this final bit. It seems that to get him to do so, you'll need to be reassuring throughout the game about the dangers of the megastructure and make him feel like he's not alone in his worries. If he comes with you, you should get an additional scene related to the Golden Gate puzzle scenes.

Additional Scenes

Star puzzles.

No Caption Provided

Another set of extra puzzles are those related to the statues of Prometheus, Pandora, and the Sphinx that you can find in each of the areas. Each of the 12 areas has two statues, and completing one will reward you with a Star item. If you collect all 24 Stars, you can take them to another gate at the megastructure location, the one hidden within what the other characters call an Astronomy temple. You can add the Stars to the gate and eventually unlock it.

Behind the gate is one more puzzle. Solve that and you'll unlock another cutscene that might imply some story possibilities for The Talos Principle 3. It's not technically part of the ending--you'll get this cutscene whenever you complete the final Star puzzle--but it is an addendum to the rest of the game's story.

Check out our guides for completing the Pandora statue puzzles and Sphinx statue puzzles to help you get through.

Trevor's audio logs

Scattered throughout the terminals you can find in each area are audio logs from Trevor, one of the coworkers of Alexandra Drennan, the scientist who dreamed up the simulation that gave rise to these new robotic humans. Finding all 12 of Trevor's logs completes his story and unlocks an extra scene during the credits.

These aren't too hard to come by if you're diligent about searching for everything in each area. Use the compass at the top of the screen, which will show question mark icons to indicate something nearby that you haven't found yet. Once you have Trevor's complete story, stick around through the credits to see its culmination.

Endings in  Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice refers to the conclusions to the game that depend on player actions / choices throughout the game. When the game finishes, a New Game Plus cycle is started, and players can experience the game again. This Sekiro Endings Guide gives players the best path to achieve all endings in the game.

Sekiro Endings Guide

  • Shura Ending - Bad Ending, end the playthrough early
  • Immortal Severance Ending - Complete one playthrough
  • Purification Ending - Complete a more complex playthrough
  • Return Ending - Complete many steps this playthrough

Can you do all Endings in One Playthrough?

It is possible to progress all endings simultaneously, except the Shura ending. This will allow for all content specific to those Endings to be available in a single playthrough. At the very end, the player will have the option to choose which of the three non-Shura endings to proceed with, and will be awarded with the respective trophy or achievement associated with it. To obtain the associated trophies and achievements for other endings, players must either beat the game multiple times (either NG or NG+ ) or make a backup of their save before the choice must be made, and load it after each ending is achieved.

Endings Explained: Step-by-Step Guide

Shura ending ( follow the iron code   ending).

"Shura" is considered the "bad" ending of the game, as it will cut your playthrough short and produce a bad outcome for the characters. It's still necessary for 100% completion, and it's the easiest ending to unlock.

In this ending, Sekiro decides to follow the Iron Code and obey Owl's wishes to obtain the power of the Divine Heir. Realizing that his forsaking of Kuro has begun the process of transforming Sekiro into a Shura, first  Emma , and then Isshin Ashina  will attempt to put him down, but Sekiro slaughters them both. Afterwards, Owl returns and lays an unseen object (revealed by datamining to be the newly-severed head of  Genichiro Ashina , Owl having killed him for his Mortal Blade), then congratulates Sekiro on defeating Isshin.  Looking down a balcony, Owl boastfully declares the whole country is his and Sekiro's for the taking, only to be impaled from behind by Sekiro. Confused and bewildered by his foster son's abrupt betrayal, Owl turns towards him and realizes the demon that Sekiro has become, before collapsing dead. Kuro, watching nearby, sees the bloodshed and fire around Sekiro and realizes Sekiro has become a Shura.  The Ashina province is soon engulfed by flames and bloodshed. This ending locks the player out of all other endings  on their current playthrough and ends the events of the game early, resulting in many missed items (most notably, the highest tier of upgrade materials ) and leading into an early NG+ - that said, the player also unlocks the combat skill  One Mind , which is exclusive to this ending, and so may be worth choosing on a subsequent playthrough. This is in contrast to the Dragon Flash combat skill, which is awarded for the remaining three endings.  Furthermore, this ending has a unique boss fight that is required for the All Bosses trophy.

  • Progress the story and collect the Lotus of the Palace and the Shelter Stone key items.
  • At the top of Ashina Castle , The Owl will give you the choice to follow the Iron Code or to continue to serve Kuro, the Divine Heir .
  • Choose to follow the Iron Code and then fight the next two boss fights.

Immortal Severance Ending ( Serve Kuro  Ending)

Immortal Severance is the most common ending for a full playthrough, and most players will unlock this naturally as it does not require extra steps. This is considered a mildly bad ending as it brings a tragedy.

In this ending, Sekiro helps Kuro carry out the Immortal Severance to end the Dragon's Heritage.  This requires giving Kuro the Divine Dragon's Tears then using the Mortal Blade  to kill Kuro.  Sekiro, in turn, will take the Sculptor's place at the Dilapidated Temple and pass the time carving Buddhas.   It may be surmised that the Dragon's Heritage may now pass to another heir as Immortal Severance was carried out once before by Takero which led to Kuro being chosen as the next Divine Heir. This is the default ending available if the player stays loyal to Kuro and the game is progressed normally.

  • At the top of Ashina Castle , The Owl  will give you the choice to follow the Iron Code or to continue to serve Kuro, the Divine Heir .
  • Choose to continue to serve Kuro and then proceed through the rest of the game.
  • Beat the final boss, talk to Kuro, and choose to give Kuro ONLY the Divine Dragon's Tears .

Purification Ending ( Alternate Serve Kuro   Ending)

Purification is a more complex ending that will require the player to do some extra steps, and thus it is a rare ending that most players will unlock on NG+. It is considered a good ending as it provides a good outcome for the characters.

This ending is similar to the Immortal Severance ending but, instead of killing Kuro to put an end to the Dragon's Heritage, Sekiro will use the Divine Dragon's Tears and  Aromatic Flower  to purify Kuro of the Dragon's Heritage.  To complete the purification Sekiro will use the Mortal Blade to sacrifice himself to remove the Immortal Oath, the last link holding the Dragon's Heritage to Kuro.  Later, Kuro and Emma will visit Sekiro's grave.  It is surmised that, like with the Immortal Severance ending, this may not be a permanent solution as the Divine Dragon may choose another to be its heir. Progressing this ending allows the player to obtain two Prayer Beads  and a  Memory , which are otherwise missable; as such, it is advisable to complete the steps for this ending even if the player does not intend to select it as their final choice.  For this ending, stay loyal to Kuro when asked, and complete the following steps before defeating the Divine Dragon . Note: Step 2  can be completed after defeating The Owl, but if not done up to this point, it is highly recommended to do it  immediately after defeating him. Simply eavesdrop on Kuro as many times as you can, rest, talk to Emma/Kuro, resting each time, until Emma moves upstairs. The key here is talking to Kuro until the topic becomes the Mortal Blade.

  • Defeat Genichiro at the top of Ashina Castle, get the Mortal Blade from The Divine Child, and acquire either the Lotus of the Palace or the Shelter Stone key item from after defeating the Guardian Ape, or the Corrupted Monk respectively. Alternatively, if you get the Mortal Blade after both the Lotus of the Palace and Shelter Stone, you may still do steps 2 and 3 after killing The Owl, and will immediately be able to do steps 6 and beyond.
  • Exhaust all dialogues with Kuro and Emma, including a conversation with Kuro about the Mortal Blade. Eavesdrop on Kuro while he's standing near the incense burner. Multiple rests may be required for Kuro to appear here instead of the library. The specific location for eavesdropping requires the player to stand just around the corner behind Kuro and the large statue he stands near. Go around behind the statue and then hug the wall on the left side of it. Rest and repeat until you eavesdrop Kuro alluding to a secret he's keeping from Sekiro which includes the phrase "Do... what must be done."  If you are not getting this eavesdrop conversation you might not have exhausted all dialogues yet with Kuro and/or Emma. (You may also eavesdrop on Kuro in the library, while facing the window in the corner, and looking back at Kuro to eavesdrop.
  • After resting, Emma will move to the top of the stairs. Speak with her and agree to keep Kuro alive.
  • Progress the story and collect the second key item (Lotus of the Palace or Shelter Stone). At this point you will face new Interior Ministry Ninjas at Ashina Castle.
  • At the top of Ashina Castle, The Owl will give you the choice to follow the Iron Code or to continue to serve Kuro, the Divine Heir. Choose to continue to serve Kuro and defeat The Owl.
  • Talk to Emma at the top of the stairs again, she will now give you Tomoe's Note .
  • Travel to the Old Grave Idol and go to the left, you will find Emma standing infront of two tombstones. Talk to Emma and then travel to Dilapidated Temple .
  • Eavesdrop on Emma and Sculptor  from behind the temple. Talk to Emma and then choose "Ask about what you overheard", and then, "What are you hiding?" to receive Father's Bell Charm. Use it at the Buddha statue. If you haven't completed Hirata Estate  area, you will need to do it by killing Lady Butterfly before you can use Father's Charm.
  • Go to the Lady Butterfly boss room and defeat Owl (Father)  to obtain Aromatic Flower ; the optional Memory is also awarded for this fight.  There are also two mini bosses in the area before this that award the player with Prayer Beads ; one is optional while the other one is mandatory in order to continue.
  • Beat the final boss, talk to Kuro, and choose to give him the Aromatic Flower  ("Everblossom") and then the  Divine Dragon's Tears .

Incidentally, once the Father's Bell Charm is acquired and the alternate Hirata Estate unlocked, the player is free to progress the game all the way up to just before speaking to Kuro after the final boss is defeated before completing the remaining steps, if desired.

Return Ending ( Dragon's Homecoming   Ending)

Return or Dragon's Homecoming is the "final" and "true" ending of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. It is a difficult ending as it requires players to complete time-sensitive steps along their playthrough, so it will likely be unlocked on NG+ and beyond. It is considered the best possible ending for the game.

In this ending, the Divine Child of Rejuvenation will help Sekiro and Kuro return the Divine Dragon to its place of origin (somewhere west of Japan).  To do so, Sekiro will feed the Divine Child both the Dried Serpent Viscera  and the  Fresh Serpent Viscera  which will allow the Divine Child to shed Frozen Tears .  Giving the Divine Dragon's Tears and Frozen Tears to Kuro will allow the Divine Child to perform the Cradling Ritual and absorb (?) Kuro within herself.  Sekiro and the Divine Child then set out to travel west to return the Dragon from whence it came and finally end the Dragon's Heritage from returning to Japan.

This ending is arguably the most complicated to unlock.  For this ending, stay Loyal to Kuro when asked, and complete the following steps before defeating the Divine Dragon.

  • Talk to the old woman praying near the Ashina Castle Idol. If you have not spoken to the old woman near the Ashina Castle Idol, the next step will not work!
  • Travel to the Main Hall Idol in Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo . There will be a monk praying to the Buddha. Speak to him to get Holy Chapter: Infested .
  • You can find the Holy Chapter: Infested at the bottom of the pond near the Temple Grounds Idol .  You must obtain the Mibu Breathing Technique  from the Corrupted Monk in Mibu Village in the Ashina Depths to dive underwater.
  • Travel to Inner Sanctum Idol  and talk to Divine Child of Rejuvenation . Talk to her to receive Rice  (you can give her the Holy Chapter: Infested now as well).
  • Get rid of the rice by using it on yourself (or giving it to the Old Hag ). Reset the area completely--leave Senpou Temple and return (using the return idol will not reset the area); resting will not suffice. If you have more than one rice or Fine Snow in your inventory from previous playthroughs, you need to get rid of all of them.
  • Repeat this step, asking for more Rice and using it until you trigger the Divine Child to fall asleep. Ask her for Rice one last time, use the Rice, and reset the area.
  • The Divine Child will now not be feeling very well. Exhaust her dialogue and give her a  Persimmon  (you can buy this from the vendor in Shugendo ; he also gives you one for free if you visit him after speaking with the Divine Child for the first time). Give her a Persimmon and then ask for more Rice. She will give you the item Rice for Kuro  and ask that you give it to him.
  • You can give Rice for Kuro immediately or later, but do it before  defeating the Divine Dragon . Once you give Kuro the Rice for Kuro, rest at the idol and speak to him again. He will give you two  Sweet Rice Ball s. You can use one of them (not mandatory) for a little extra dialogue with Kuro and later with the Child.
  • Travel back to the Divine Child and talk to her.
  • The Holy Chapter: Infested is required at this point, and must be obtained if you did not manage to acquire it earlier (see above).  Once you have given it to her, rest so that she moves to the Illusory Hall (where the Folding Screen Monkeys boss was); an entry portal is in the water directly across from the Divine Child's Inner Sanctum.
  • At the Illusory Hall talk to the Divine Child (located near the large tree in the center) who tells you to seek out a High Senpou priest.
  • Travel to Main Hall Idol at Senpou Temple and retrieve the  Holy Chapter: Dragon's Return  from the cave just outside the Hall's side entrance. The item will be on the blue monk's corpse at the end of the cave.  This item cannot be acquired from the corpse until this point is reached in the quest line. You will then need to rest.
  • Fresh Serpent Viscera : From the Senpou Temple Idol  to the right and below is a large hat Ministry enemy you will use the Puppeteer Ninjutsu  technique on which will have him operate the kite crank. Go up the hill and through the temple with the undying monk and up into the large tree by the Old Hag. Use the kite as a grappling point to cross the valley to reach the Sunken Valley Cavern Idol . Plunge attack the Great Serpent  and receive Fresh Serpent Viscera  (note that you need to encounter the Great Serpent in the Sunken Valley for it to appear).
  • Dried Serpent Viscera : You will need to have encounter the Great Serpent at the bridge leading to the Gun Fort  for the Great Serpent to be there. Travel to the Bodhisattva Valley Idol and head down toward where the Toxic Memorial Mob  is located and enter into the cave behind him. At the end of the cave is another Great Serpent and you will need to use the Puppeteer Ninjutsu on the nearby monkey to distract the Serpent in order to grapple across safely and head into the house to find the Dried Serpent Viscera .
  • Travel to the Divine Child and give her both Viscera items. Rest then eavesdrop.
  • If you have not done it already, progress the story and collect the Lotus of the Palace and the Shelter Stone key items, then choose to Stay Loyal to Kuro , defeat Owl , and burn the Fountainhead Incense at the Altar after talking to Kuro.
  • Travel back to the Inner Sanctum; the doors are now open. Talk to the Divine Child to receive Frozen Tears .
  • Continue the game normally, beat the final boss, talk to Kuro, and give him the the Frozen Tears with the Divine Dragon's Tears .

If the prior steps are completed, the player can return to acquire the Frozen Tears at any point before speaking to Kuro at the end of the game after the final boss is defeated.

the visit all endings

How many had to look up where to find Emma after eavesdropping on Kuro? I was stumped, she was not Kuro’s room or at Sculptor’s temple and I had no reason to go back up on the roof so I did not think to look there.

I'd say purification is way harder to get than return, for return you've got to follow some cryptic clues, go on a treasure hunt, and talk to some people. For purification you've got to fight one of the hardest bosses in the game, go on a short treasure hunt, do a bunch of evesdropping, and talk to emma a bunch. Return may require more reading and thinking, but return means you have to fight owl V2, a fight that is nearly as much of a wall as fighting isshin.

you cant eavesdrop until you have the stone from the mibu village at least

Something to watch out for: I wasn't able to get the serpent to spawn at the plunge attack location. This was either because I went to the plunge attack place before encountering him at the gun fort, or because I went to the plunge attack place before killing the folding screen monkeys (already had puppeteer ninjutsu from NG). I had to take the Shura ending and try again.

Not sure why everyone thinks Shura locks out of Fountainhead Palace and other endings. I did Shura, and load the game and it started me right before making the decision to break the iron code. Went up to talk to owl, broke the iron code and was able to continue the story and get to fountainhead just fine.

I actually managed to get the return ending as my first ending without guides, just wanted to let everyone know how smart I am. If you don't believe it, it means you have a skill issue. I recommend you delete the system32 folder and never play any souls game again.

This game did not need four endings. Sorry. Three is enough.

How in the hell would anyone notice that Kuro eavesdropping spot for the purification ending?

I actually managed to get the return ending as my first ending without guides, just wanted to explore and do as much as possible, also talking to npcs everywhere after every small/big event helped, currently going for Shura ending though in NG+

In a million years I wouldn't have figured this out myself

This guide was incredibly helpful with all of the links. Sure, it wasn’t holding your hand the whole way, but gave great info to get me through purification ending.

If you frequently explore, understands the lore, always talks with npcs, then you're most likely be getting the 3 endings without reading the guide. The dragon homecoming ending is a bit hidden at first, but the old lady asking for rice made it easy :)

Ummm.... I think I made a big buubuu, So I got the 2 important ingredients for the "Return" ending right and went to the Divine Child and gave her 1 important ingredient but did not give her the other one...Then whateever happened to me i went to the idol and rested and the door shut...I'm so stupid, can i still get the return ending as i progress?

For the purification ending, I can't get Kuro to spawn near the incense burner so that I can eavesdrop. I've got the shelter stone and the mortal blade but haven't killed the ape yet this playthrough. I've exhausted all dialogues and have reset the area numerous times. Not sure what I'm missing because I know I've gotten through these steps on other playthroughs.

for the return ending, if you get the holy chapter early, it needs to be stated that you then have to go fight genichiro to progress. You will not have access to the illusive hall bell to start the cutscene until after genichiro fight.

I did the Purification ending on my first playthrough because I remember getting the Aromatic Flower at some point. I never killed Lord Kuro and I watched Sekiro sacrifice himself to end the Dragon's Heritage.

You can sort of naturally run into the return ending by remembering that the hags asked for rice and going back and forth to request it from the divine child and give it to them. After that the questline holds your hand a bit more than the guide might imply. The purification ending just looks silly though.

After reading through this. It seems to me that I almost completed all the steps for the return ending on my first playthrough, but didn't talk to someone at the right time or something cause I got the Immortal Severance ending instead. ****

Why must Miyazaki always make the coolest ending the bad one? DS3 you have to betray all your friends but you become the lord of darkness. Sekiro you kill all your friends but you become the god of war or something similar. Elden ring you set the world on fire but it looks really cool.

Dragonrot must be cured before certain stages of the child's questline can be progressed

Takeru and Tomoe actually never found the red Mortal Blade (aka Gracious Gift of Tears), so I'm not sure why it says that Takeru achieved Immortal Severance and another Divine Heir was chosen afterwards, since it's not possible to acquire the Divine Dragon's tears without the red MB.

Back in 2019 when I first played this game I got lost on my way to Genichiro so I decided to visit the "special child" the old hag was talking about. I was really confused when I reached the top of Senpou Temple and there was no boss fight, but at least I got to talk to the monk who gives you the Divine Chapter. After I had finally reached Genichiro and defeated him, I realized how little attention I was paying to the game. So I started trying to solve every quest and every riddle NPCs gave me, even cryptic ones like "dried and fresh fruit." I also began talking to every NPC almost compulsively, especially if they were in areas dedicated as "important places." And that's how I ended up getting the Return ending on my first playthrough.

It is hard to write a guide without spoiling the whole final before the STEPS????. Oh my god, with the new From Software game releasing later this year (Armored core) please, just write a generic description before the steps, and AFTER THE STEPS the full final. I love this site, but i'm disappointed with this specific page.

try finger but hole

Got all 4 of the endings. That means 4 playthroughs. I'm happy. The Return ending is definitely the best as it shows Wolf alive, the Divine Child is pregnant with Kuro from the way she dresses and how she walked ('cradle' literally means a baby's bed after all) and they are about to embark on the journey west to return the Dragon's Heritage to its home. The text and dialog further implied that returning the Dragon's Heritage does not mean Kuro dies at the end so it's quite likely he'll be born normal. As for Wolf, he'll still remain undying throughout the journey enabling him to protect both his charges until the Dragon's Heritage is returned and his immortality is presumably ended. Other than the above, why this is best ending? Sequel hook!

The Purification Ending is arguably the best outcome. Sekiro’s purpose is to protect Kuro no matter the cost, meaning that it will eventually result in his own demise. In any other outcome, Kuro is either killed or consumed and therefore ceases to exist. If you want to do Sekiro’s character justice, go for the purification ending.

I got the "Do what needs to be done" line from Kuro but Emma isn't moving to the top of the stairs. Is that ok or should i just go get the shelter stone?

(For the person below me) It's considered the best one because even if Sekiro sacrifices himself to sever Kuro's immortality, someone else might be chosen by the Divine Dragon to become the next Divine Heir like Kuro was as Sekiro never killed the Divine Dragon, only took it's blood/tears. In the Return Ending, Sekiro and the Divine Child leave Japan with the essence of Kuro to return the Dragon to it's original location somewhere west meaning all this fighting and greed for eternal life for Divine Heritage will finally leave Japan upon achieving the Return Ending, in a way serving the greater good for the people of Japan, hence why it is considered the "best" ending

How is Dragon's Homecoming ending the good one? Kuro still dies, well technically the Divine Child eats him, but still he is not alive. Imo the good ending is the one where Sekiro sacrifices himself for Kuro to live. And the default ending where Sekiro becomes the Sculptor is the more poetic one. Dragon's Homecoming is just meh.

Im trying to do the return ending but the door to the inner sanctum wont open when i've got the snake visera. Have i done something wrong?

Why the **** do you spoil the endings before how you even say how to get them? You don't even need spoilers in the first place.

wk rhfwehrfweu8otye84 tyindbr serrhysr ghsrg

For the purification ending you can eavesdrop on Kuro by hugging the wall behind if, helpful if he's already standing by the fragance

damn, I was knocking off achievements for the 100%, and expected Shura run to be quick. Emma even gave me a little trouble but Isshin is another level lol, I can defeat Sword Saint without a sweat but Isshin Ashina has some crazy moves.

Done all the steps for the return ending the kid hasn't left to go to the monkey playground?

the difference between Immortal Severence, Homecoming Ending and Purification Ending is what Sekiro gave to Kuro? I plan to save schumming for the 3 ending, and then play NG for the Shura ending. Thank you.

I got the True Ending on my first playthrough!

I somehow triggered the third invasion without getting the second memory for Hirata. Sucks. But there's always NG+.

For the purification ending you can eavesdrop Kuro in the library if you open the window first and then return from outside.

argh... i cannot betray my father. i forsake kuro the troublesome boy

I unlocked the dragons return ending by accident while working on the purification ending (first play through). I don't think it's as time sensitive as the guide makes it out to be. Was working on fighting Owl (father) in Hirata Estate, getting rice from the divine child when suddenly she disappeared. Looked it up and found her in the hall of illusions and got the frozen tears and fine snow. So I believe I have everything for dragons return. Still haven't killed Owl for purification. Any benefits to choosing one ending over the other (more boss fights etc)?

I offered Kuro candy and took him in my van. I’ve got a little gaichin sugar for anybody else as well. Who wants a ride?

From my playthrough it seems like these things don’t need to be completed in order to get the several endings except for a few select ones.

Unlock the hidden videogame journalist mode by getting the hidden bong.

the one true ending is to smoke weed and **** off

For purification ending: i got the dialogue after getting the shelter stone. Exhaust all dialogues between kuro and emma then the eavesdrop prompt will appear. I haven't gotten the lotus yet

Both divine children are male.

If Purification ending, why does it say give Everblossom THEN Divine Dragon's Tears. Dude is dead after he gives Kuro Everblossom.

In the purification ending, does Sekiro behead himself or just cut his carotid artery? I couldn't tell whether he was headless in the last shot or if his head was tilted in an angle where we couldn't see it

I'm going for the return ending and I gave the divine child the holy chapter: infested before doing the rice thing, did I mess up? can I fix it?

I made the hardest ending And didn’t read this, I didn’t know it was, too hard. I’m very lucky

I spoke to Emma instead of eavesdropping on her in the dilapidated temple. Did I mess it up?

I like to think of Dragon's homecoming as the canon ending, mainly because it sets the game up for a sequel

How did I get the Aromatic Branch off Owl at the top of ashina on NG+++ never heard it was possible

Wait, so you still kill the Divine Dragon in the return ending? That doesn't really make any sense

wow very epic much cool

Does anyone know the best way to progress through the endings. Like I just finished purification what would be the next ending I should do Shura, Severance, or Dragon's heritage.

After defeating Isshin can you leave the arena and continue fighting bosses or are you required to help kuro?

Kinda wish there was more people approved to edit this wiki because it could be a bit more detail about how to progress some stuff. I was having trouble on a third playthrough getting Kuro to talk about the Shelter Stone and it turns out that you need the "Rotting Prisoner's Note" describing the drop to Ashina Depths and the stone itself. After you get that note Kuro will be sitting down in front of the incense and that's when you trigger the dialogue to go after it. I just wanted to be on the safe side because i'd rather fight the Guardian Ape and have him thrash the crap out of the poison pool and lower the enemy count because f*ck having to empty that place to fight the second snake eyes. Hope this helps anyone out.

These FS stories are so convoluted. You need a master's degree in applied linguistics to understand.

TIRED OF ANON POSTING? NO I ****ING HATE THIS WEBSITE AND THE PEOPLE THAT RUN IT WHY THE **** WOULD I EVER BE TIRED OF ANON POSTING? LIKE I WOULD EVER SIGN UP FOR THIS ****

In the voice over after, the narrator mentions that for 'for a long time after, it was said a demon lurked the land.' This implies that Sekiro does eventually die somehow. Though despite being a mortal, you can hear a bit of the Divine Dragon's leit motif as Sekiro picks up the Black Mortal Blade. Since the Divine Dragon is essentially a god, this means that in the Shura ending thru achieving Shura, Sekiro becomes a god of killing, massacres, and death. This mirrors the Childhood's Beginning ending of Bloodborne. The player is left behind in a state of confusion while the character becomes a god that has left their humanity behind.

this might sound dumb, but in wich ending i get to fight most bosses?

I got the dried serpent viscera by using mist raven... I went there not having the puppeteer ninjutsu, so I grappled towards the snake then the moment the kanji sign appeared used mist raven and reached for the entrance.

oh my god, i started a brand new playthrough to get the purification ending so I could finally get those two prayer beads that i was missing, but when i had to eavesdrop on the sculptor and lady emma i just walked straight up to them like an idiot and now I cant get the ending. Is there anything else I can do ;-; (btw i dont have a save file before this apparently so thats out of the question ig)

did everything but the game wont give the option to give frozen tears.

Beginning of the explanation of 'Return' ending: "For this ending, stay Loyal to Kuro when asked, and complete the following steps before defeating the Divine Dragon." Now at the end of the description it says: "15. Continue the game normally, beat the final boss, talk to Kuro, and give him the the Frozen Tears with the Divine Dragon's Tears." and "If the prior steps are completed, the player can return to acquire the Frozen Tears at any point before speaking to Kuro at the end of the game after the final boss is defeated." So killing the divine dragon wasn't normal progress of the game? I got the frozen tears but I killed the divine dragon

For the Purification ending, sometimes Kuro can be a little slow to find out about the Shelter Stone on his own. If you're having trouble exhausting all his dialogue to get the right eavesdrop opportunity, grab the Shelter Stone early to force the conversation out and rest afterwards.

Do I need to beat Owl (Father) before the Divine Dragon in order to get the Purification ending?

Dragon's Homecoming by far is the best and most true ending. Since the start Sekiro is devoted to serve Kuro even if that means break his Iron Code. And since that mother****er Owl is just a greedy bastard and betrayed Sekro it just add up to me preferring this ending. And I got blinded on my first try. What an amazing game!

I accidentally did the follow iron code/shura ending without realizing I just cut out a lot of the game hhhhhh fuuuuuck

As implied by a few other posts, you do not have to get rid of your rice after receiving it for the first time from the Divine Child in order to progress the return ending. You will have to get rid of both rice and fine snow in order to get her to give it to you for the first time in any given playthrough, however. After that, she'll give you another rice (and rice for Kuro) after giving her the parsimmon even if you still have the previous rice in your inventory. She'll also give you the fine snow if you still have the rice. Likewise, you never have to consume any rice balls to progress the ending. Thus you can get three rice balls on any given playthrough—two the first type that Kuro gives you after you give him Rice for Kuro, and one of the second.

I se alot people thinks the ending is the most time consuming to obtaine all achivements. I tell you that the ending can all be collected easily in one playthrough by backing up save before beating the game. The hardest part to acquire all achivement is actually learning all skills, the grind is unreal even with kuro charm.

So, on my initial blind playthrough of the game, I managed to get the Dragon's Homecoming ending, but there are some inconsistencies with how I got it and the steps listed here. - First, I got all of the necessary rice without eating any, though I did give 2 away to the two grannies that give hints about the fruits of the serpent. I ended up receiving four of the rice items throughout the play, and ended the game with 2 in my inventory. - Second, I never ate any rice balls Kuro gave to me, instead prompting a dialogue of not eating them in front of him, before returning after some time (perhaps a boss fight or more) and receiving another rice ball with unique item text. Based on this, I can confirm without a doubt that neither rice nor rice balls need to be eaten at all to progress this ending. It's important to note that I found the Holy Chapter: Infested after the Corrupted Monk boss fight, down in the Senpou Temple pool of water, and that I got both of the serpent viscera well before I knew what they were needed for. In fact, I had them both before I fought Owl, and also before I had the option to give a Persimmon to the Divine Child. I also gave a Taro Persimmon, which I received from Kotarou's side quest, to the Divine Child of Rejuvenation at one point, which may have prompted one of the additional rice servings. This entire run is recorded on twitch.tv/ciarantheblade if there is any question on the exact order of events I followed. In contrast, I completely missed the secret eavesdropping on Kuro and the entirety of the Father's Bell area. That***** is obscure.

Does anyone have a save file before entering the fountainhead palace? its the same guy that blew it smh

If kuro is waiting for me in the secret passage and i already defeated the divine dragon, can i still give him rice for kuro ? i *****ing blew it

Guys I need help. I get to the top of the castle and I don't get the option to stay loyal to Kuro. I have both the lotus of the fountain and the shelter stone. I don't know what to do. I already got the shura ending but backed up my save and want to stay loyal to Kuro. Thanks

For purification ending it says after defeating Owl you eavesdrop but on the third step it says defeat Owl. So do I do the steps before or after Owl :/

I love it when endings hinge on eavesdropping and eating rice.

Nice guide overall, I got the dragon's homecoming ending, but why are you implying that the 2 prayer beads and owl father memory are only obtainable in purification ending, you can obtain those and still have homecoming ending

I went for return ending for first play through which is hardest I understand beat game grabbed my kids to watch ending n thought ending was crap definitely not worth all the time n all the deaths hope other 3 r better

Jesus I thought there was only two. The plat is gonna be much more time consumimg than I thought

My favorite ending is Shura. For once, Sekiro acts independtly from his Foster dad AND his master. A selfish choice, bringing him on a path cursed by murders, but his own path. The other paths are not so independent. Disrupting immortality by killing Kuro is at first the choice of his master. He chose to kill himself in the purification ending, because he was the one to said the sentence "Do what you have to do" at Kuro, and felt guilty. In the return ending, he is still bound to Kuro. In Shura ending, Sekiro says ***** that, I didn't choose immortality, etc, so ***** the world. And I like this choice.

Goddamn owl Stabbed me in the back with his ***** Sword, mfw I hate foster Parents now, I felt bad for the sum***** when i found him dying, the sound effect and the fire being buffed added the emotions of being motivated but in the end he betrays you, ***** the iron code.

So, can I defeat Owl (Father) just after Isshin final boss, but before talking to Kuro and get Purification ending choice? Just wanna be sure, because Owl is my greatest pain so far.

I want to note what bull*****it is that I can’t get the true ending because i defeated the divine dragon!!! I feel personally robbed of the ending I’ve been striving toward without spoiling the game by looking it up. Pretty disappointed!!! They really need to make it to where I can give Kuro the rice before fighting genichiro for the last time then and there.

A question: what if I did both all steps necessary to return and purification before fighting Owl at the Ashina castle? Which ending am I going to get?

How tf was I supposed to know I had to use the rice? As much as I like the ambiguity of the quests and choices, it really pisses me off that because of one thing, I didn't get the true ending

At Dragon's Homecoming Ending I had to first defeat the Owl before I could talk to the Divine Child about Kuro's rice again

I didn't eat sweet rice in front of Kuro, because I'm greedy T_T... let's see if I can still get Return ending...

Cool, I did the last one blind! Now I'm going to move on to the rest.

I've got tomoe's notes but didn't talk to emma at the grave and also have killed the dragon is there any way i can still get the purification ending. BTW emma is with the dead body of isshin.

If anybody having troubles finding the Senpou High Priest with blue robe. From "Main Hall" Idol, go to the left and enter the cave, go inside the cave (Kill the mobs). Drop down and the turn to the right, crouch through the little "tunnel". Double jump up to the platform and then (before you grapple yourself up) it will be there in front of you. I had some troubles finding it so I decided to write it down, maybe it can be a little bit of a help for others.

Not sure if I seen it in the notes but after talking to lady emma in the grave you need to make sure the sculptor doesn't have dragonrot so you can eavesdrop

Do you need to specifically eat the Sweet Rice Ball in front of Kuro or is that just an extra feature..?

I ended up giving the holy chapter: infested to Emma because that was an option, still managed to acquire the dragon tears though by completing every other step.

In case the steps seem confusing: for the Purification ending, collect any two out of the following three items: the Mortal Blade, the Shelter Stone and the Lotus Flower. Talk to Kuro and exhaust all dialogue; he now knows that you only need one more item. Rest, then eavesdrop. Talk to Emma, and say "I agree". Defeat Owl, then talk to her again. Go to the Old Grave Idol, go left, then talk to Emma. Go to the Dilapidated Temple and eavesdrop on Emma and the Sculptor. Talk to Emma about what you overheard, and then ask what she's hiding. You'll get the bell from her. Interact with the Buddha nearby. Defeat Lady Butterfly, if you haven't already. Otherwise, proceed and defeat Owl (Father). Progress as normal, defeat the Sword Saint, and then give Kuro the Everblossom. Done.

Endings for Elden Ring  cover the possible conclusions of the game, determined by the player and their influence on The Lands Between's denizens. Each ending is shaped by the player's interactions with certain NPCs  and their respective Side Quests . This page covers each ending, the requirements to reach an ending, and frequently asked questions. There are a total of six (6) possible endings in Elden Ring.

See the Lore  page for a deeper dive into the history of The Lands Between and its inhabitants.

Can I See Multiple Endings in a Single Playthrough?

Traditionally, no; each playthrough can only have a single ending, and another can only be seen after completing your next playthrough in New Game+ . However, it is possible to make use of save states at the end of your first playthrough to complete an ending and then load to a previous state and complete another. This is an effective way to unlock all ending-related Achievements  or to see multiple endings without completing another full playthrough. So far, this method is possible on Steam, PS4/PS5, and Xbox One/Series.

With the exception of one ending that will explained below, you can work towards and complete all the relevant quests required for each ending without being locked to it. After beating the final boss, you can choose which ending you want to go for out of the endings you've unlocked.

How To Prevent the Chaos Ending

This question suggests that you have met with the  Three Fingers  to inherit the Frenzied Flame. To reverse this, you will need Miquella's Needle  which can be obtained after completing  Millicent's  questline and returning the  Unalloyed Gold Needle  to the Scarlet Aeonia left after  Malenia, Blade of Miquella's  fight.  Miquella's Needle  can be used at  Dragonlord Placidusax's  arena in the  Crumbling Farum Azula  to reverse the  Three Fingers ' flame of frenzy. Fighting Placidusax is not necessary to use the needle; simply being in the boss arena will do.

Elden Ring Endings Guide: How to get All Endings in Elden Ring

  • There is a total of 6 endings . The player will become the Elden Lord except in the "Lord of Frenzied Flame" ending and the "Age of Stars" ending.
  • Any of the four Elden Lord endings grants the  Trophy/Achievement , meaning you only need to clear the game 3 times to get all of them, and not 6.
  • There is no clear good, bad, or true ending due to the ambiguity of the fate of the Lands Between after the player character mends the Elden Ring in most endings.

The Age of Order Ending is an alternative version of the Golden Order ending, where the Tarnished chooses to use the Mending Rune of Perfect Order  on the Elden Ring to restore order to the Lands Between by putting an end to all the strife caused by forces "emboldened by the flames of ambition".

The noble Goldmask once lamented that "all the good and the great wanted, in their foolishness, is an absolute evil to contend with", implying that one who seeks greater power to further his or her ambition will, in all likelihood, presents himself or herself as the greater good and condemn the other side as the absolute evil. Each will accuse the other as committing heresy. Strife would ensue, plunging the Lands Between into chaos and unending conflicts.

The Age of Order thus envisions a new age of stability, where there is no more conflict brought upon by the "fickleness of the gods no better than men" which was "emboldened by the flames of ambition".

"The fallen leaves tell a story Of how a Tarnished became Elden Lord. In our home, across the fog, the Lands Between. Our seed will look back upon us, and recall. The Age of Order."

Blessing of Despair Ending (Elden Lord)

  • Complete Dung Eater's  quest and give him  Seedbed Curses until you receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse .
  • After the final boss, touch Fractured Marika and choose to "Use Mending Rune of the Fell Curse" to get the Blessing of Despair Ending.

The Blessing of Despair Ending is an alternative version of default ending of the game, where the Tarnished chooses to use the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse and begin the new age as Elden Lord - the difference being, now, the Lands Between has now been overtaken by a reviled curse. While the details of what the curse brings isn't fully explained, it is the same curse brought from Dung Eater's defilement, causing defiled souls to be unable to return to the Erdtree. With the fell curse embedded in the Elden Ring, all present and future generations will be afflicted with this loathsome curse.

Lord of the Frenzied Flame Ending

  • Meeting with the Three Fingers will lock you out of all other ending choices, unless Miquella's Needle is used at Dragonlord Placidusax's arena at Crumbling Farum Azula. This removes the Frenzied Flame, and is a permanent reversal.
  • After the final boss, touch Fractured Marika and choose to "Become the Lord of Frenzied Flame" to get the Lord of the Frenzied Flane Ending.

In the Lord of the Frenzied Flame Ending, the Tarnished goes down a different path to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame . If the Frenzied Flame is inherited before the events at the Forge of the Giants, Melina leaves the Tarnished's company, leaving the Tarnished to sacrifice their own body at the Forge. This leads to an extra scene at the ending, showing Melina without the mark on her left eye, devoting herself to deliver "Destined Death" to you.

If the player obtains the Frenzied Flame after the events at the Forge, the scene with Melina does not occur, due to her own prior sacrifice.

As explained by the Three Fingers through Hyetta at the end of her quest, this ending sees the Tarnished take up the mantle of the Lord of Chaos, and tasked with burning the world, along with the mistakes of the Greater Will - all existing sin, torment, fracture, and curse - to unite everything and everyone much like the crucible which existed before time.

Age of the Stars Ending

  • Complete the questline of Ranni the Witch .
  • If the Frenzied Flame was inherited, it can be quelled by using Miquella's Needle .
  • After defeating the final boss, use Ranni's summon sign to initiate the Age of the Stars Ending.

In the Age of the Stars Ending, after defeating the Elden Beast , instead of mending the Elden Ring, the Tarnished summons  Ranni the Witch  in front of Marika's remains.  Ranni supplants Marika as Goddess and takes The Tarnished as her Elden Lord. She brings an end to The Golden Order, establishing an Order of her own (not named but likely similar to the Order of the Dark Moon , which we currently know little about). In doing so she also removes the influence of The Greater Will from The Lands Between. She leaves The Lands Between together with The Tarnished and takes her Order with her, on a journey meant to last a thousand years.  As a result of her absence, The Lands Between is left without a lord for the first time in an age.

stars ending enoth screenshot crop endings elden ring wiki guide 600px

In her final cutscene she states the following: "...The battle is over, I see. I do solemnly swear. To every living being, and every living soul. Now cometh the age of the stars. A thousand year voyage under the wisdom of the Moon. Here beginneth the chill night that encompasses all, reaching the great beyond. Into fear, doubt, and loneliness... As the path stretcheth into darkness. Well then. Shall we? My dear consort, eternal."

Once her questline has been fully cleared, it is possible to go back to her room and talk with her doll, where she further explains her plans with the following dialog: “Upon the order I envision. Mine will be an order not of gold, but the stars and moon of the chill night. I would keep them far from the earth beneath our feet. As it is now, life, and souls, and order are bound tightly together, but I would have them at a great remove. And have the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch… All become impossibilities. Which is why I would abandon this soil, with mine order. Wouldst thou come to me, even now, my one and only lord?”

The original Japanese script makes the sentence "And have the certainties of sight, emotion, faith, and touch… All become impossibilities." more clear, as it does not refer to denying sentient creatures of all emotions, but instead to removing the Order she is creating from their reach. As described in a Frontline Gaming Japan article [1] , the following is the literal translation: 生命と魂が、律と共にあるとしても、それは遥かに遠くにあればよい “…Even if life and souls are one with the order, it (the order) could be kept far away.”

確かに見ることも、感じることも、信じることも、触れることも …すべて、できない方がよい “If it was not possible to clearly see, feel, believe in, or touch the order… That would be better.”

She initially planned to go alone, living in solitude for 1000 years. This is suggested by the description of her Dark Moon Ring : "Whoever thou mayest be, take not the ring from this place, the solitude beyond the night is better mine alone."

The fact people still use the word 'simp' unironically in 2024 is honestly hilarious

People arguing which ending is the best/worst, meanwhile me choosing an ending based on my build.

It's too bad there wasn't an ending involving an age of boiled crabs. The Big Black Boggart himself should've been Elden Lord. Free crabs for everyone. I've never actually ate crab irl. Would like to eat eventually.

Fia ending: grossly misinterpreted by Fia simps // Dungeater ending: ew // Shattered ending: ehh // Stars ending: whatever... // Frenzy ending: cool, edgy but cool // Goldmask ending: M.Bison_yes_scream.mp3

Age of frenzy is the worse ending, it's wrong and morally messed up. *sees ranni fan art* Never mind, this world should burn and melt.

The Elden Lord - Age of Order ending feels so satisfying. Initially the game tempts you with the notion of becoming Elden Lord as a Tarnished. All support characters and in-game indicators lead you along that path. Mid-to-late game you learn the shocking truth that the notion of becoming Elden Lord is a lie. The Order is broken, the Fingers are broken, the Erdtree is broken. It has spurned you and you're not meant to become Elden Lord. The Golden Order is going to stay shattered, as is. I especially like how the game specifically tempts you around this point, if you've been doing the side quests, with the notion of doing away with the existing Order entirely (Age of Stars) or the nihilistic path of destroying everything (Lord of Frenzied Flame). Psychologically, I do get the appeal of these endings, other than the cool cutscenes and all, these paths were introduced and clarified after the Tarnished has been promised so much and fought so hard, only to discover that it is all a lie. Its understandable to be weary and tired and to not like the prospect of fighting endlessly for the throne of an Order that is broken and corrupted anyway. Mid-to-late game, in-character, is when you begin losing hope and start giving in to righteous frustration and despair. The time when you were so full of hope and energy, were promised so much and hailed to achieve it, seems like a lifetime ago. Even if you do go on this new journey with Melina, even if you do burn and enter the Erdtree and become Elden Lord, what's the point? You've now seen so much misery and no sign of any stability, order, civilization or peace. Is becoming Elden Lord of such a "fractured" land even worth it? So imagine my satisfaction when after fighting so hard, my character not only becomes Elden Lord but also manages to fix the underlying "bug" so to speak, with the previous Order, improving it and bringing peace and stability to the Lands Between. Bringing renewed hope that what happened so long ago to shatter civilization may/should never happen again. Imagine being promised something amazing, then finding out it is not your destiny to achieve it, but nevertheless, achieving it against all odds and making it worthwhile in addition, all through sheer effort and rigorous exploration. The sense of achievement is difficult to describe. While the 2 unique endings are about a revolutionary change and are definitely pretty cool, in my opinion, the Elden Lord - Age of Order ending is about a complicated relationship with destiny itself, and how we come full circle to achieve it.

None of the endings are appealing except frenzied flame and that’s only because the other endings are unappealing so you would rather burn it down.

Wouldn't it be an interesting thing for the ending to have an impact on your next playthrough? As in based on the ending you choose, your ng+ character would have a permanent buff/debuff for the whole playthrough, or all enemies/some enemies could have different behaviors based on the lore of the chosen ending, or any other such effect?

Fun fact: By siding with Ranni you become lord of the Night. Not Elden lord

I chose Age Of Stars ending because dark souls made me tired of this whole cycle thing but I also wanted that ****ing ring to stay destroyed

The best ending is where you die to the tree sentinel 500 times and return the game to the store

Primordial Crucible is where all lifes once blended, Frenzied Flame goals is too make everything a One Great once again like Crucible, Frenzied Flame act as the Apocalypse, a reset, the Crucible then will create disparity, life and souls once again, this is similar to The First Flame and it's Kiln of Dark Souls universe.

People like Age of Stars because sex rules and f logic lol. Hey, there’s a gigantic Moon that is explicitly stated to BEWITCH the people, but nooooo… it’s free will baby!!!

"You should choose Age of the Stars ending it's the bes-" STFU MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD

All endings ranked worse to beat I soulsborne game (this is not good or evil, but which I think is better in terms for the user, PS is is my opinion) -ds2 default ending: boring, too vague, a pitiful ending -age of fracture: same as Ds2 -ds2 secret ending: not much better, but it is more interesting ig -age of dusk born: most of ER endings are the same, but this one is the most confusing so I’m putting it second to last -age of order: it’s the best ending in terms of morals, but it’s not the most interesting -age of disparity: it has the cool looking sky, so I’m ranking it the highest of all the default ER endings -ds3 linking of the fire: it’s the same as DS1 version but it feels slightly more pointless do to the fire WILL fade again. -demon souls, good ending: it’s pretty neat, and looks cool in the remake, but I think the other ending are more interesting -demon souls, end ending: It’s also looks beautiful in the remake, and it switches for me with the good ending. -age of stars: I’m not the hugest fan of ranni, but this ending looks nice, but as I said ranni isn’t my favorite character so it doesn’t rank as high for my list -DS1 linking of the fire: it’s a solid, classic and slightly somber ending, it’s slightly lower do to ds3 and 2 make it feel less impactful, but I think it still carries weight since it’s the first -bloodborne, birth: despite its the secret endings, I feel like it’s the worse of bloodbornes endings, simply because, I feel like the other ones are better, not like this one is bad. -DS1 lord of dark: I like this ending more and more as the series goes on, since it feels like a bad ending at first, but as the series continues it starts getting to feel like this is the ending we should of chosen. -age of frenzy flame: it’s a pretty cool ending, and if the make a sequel, they should do it after this ending. -ds3, lord of hollows: it’s badass, simple as that, it’s cool and I like how Frieda lines changes if you chose this ending. -bloodborne, waking up: I like it, simply because of how much story is explained and theories it had made. -Ds3 fire fades: this feels like it’s supposed to be the canon ending of dark souls, as a series, where we put the series to rest. -bloodborne, hunters dream: I think this is my favorite ending in the series, mainly since I like the idea of helping the future hunters. Simple as that. That is it for my list, I haven’t beaten sekrio yet, so I’m leaving it’s ending out of my list until I beat it.

Frenzy Flame ending is the best ending, all other endings are trash except dung eater ending.

Curious. Do Malenia Blade of Miquella dies after being defeated? I wonder if the tarnished never interacted with 3 fingers, and complete the ending by curing Malenia using Miquella's Needle and she became his maiden instead. Would it unlock a different ending?

I honestly can't understand why some people hate any of the endings so much that they can throw insults at them. Isn't it normal for players to choose how they want to end the game? I just started playing for around a week or two, and I'm going for Ranni's ending. Being called a simp or "someone who thinks with their d*ck" for how I enjoy the game really felt uncomfortable.

Lazuli Robe - scholars, who sought to master Carian sorcery, instead learned to see the moon as equal to the stars. This robe, in the hue of the full moon, signifies their HERESY. Age of Stars is a misconception, it is more like Age of the Moon. Remember, the Moon has wisdom and can bewitch the people.

Age of Stars granting free will is garbage invented by simps (who think with their *ick). The Moon bewitched the Academy and will bewitch the world as it approaches the Lands Between in the Age of Stars ending. I guess simps think that bewitchment equals free will.

There should be an item reward for each ending or something.. You can go back to talk to Ranni's doll in her chamber once again after choosing age of stars ending, which feels kind of pointless in a sense and misleading.

I hate how alluring the flame of frenzy is to me :( I want to believe that there's a right answer

Ranni abandoning the soil with her order and her statement that "As it is now, life, and souls, and order are bound tightly together, but I would have them at a great remove" can also easily be interpreted to mean she is taking the source of her Order's power away with her, so that no one can change it or affect it in any way, but the laws defined by her order would still be binding on the inhabitants of the Lands Between. If true, it wouldn't mean that the people have free will, quite the opposite in fact. If someone doesn't like her Order, they have no way to change it whatsoever. Even if you buy the "FREE WILL" premise and she truly is leaving the Lands Between with her Order entirely, and the people are left to their own fate completely, how exactly would that be a good thing? Lmao, there is free will already as of the start of the game, the Golden Order is broken and its influence long gone,; there is no central authority presiding over the Lands Between, but how well off are the people? How tempting it is to "shatter the oppressive order" while forgetting that you need to provide an alternative, equally viable solution. There are horrible monstrosities, and numerous alien entities all vying for influence over the land and its inhabitants. If left to its own fate, the land would be torn apart by such. It needs a more egalitarian and accommodating version of the Golden Order, one which protects and enhances the lives of everyone. You know, one which you can provide, as Elden Lord, instead of shirking your duty and moving off to honeymoon in space. You have the ability to massively improve the old Order and with it, the lives of everyone, so why wouldn't you stay and do it? I get the fascination with Age of the Stars, I really do and no doubt, its a quite popular ending, but from my point of view, you can't have it both ways. either Ranni is the new Marika, the Dark Moon Order is the new GO, and the Tarnished is the Lord of Night, or she leaves and the Lands Between is left to its own fate. Personally speaking, neither case is more appealing than you being Elden Lord and crafting your own vision for the Lands Between.

Would’ve been cool the get a frenzied flame helmet after its ending

Rennala’s Full Moon - Queen Rennala encountered this enchanting moon when she was young, and later, it would BEWITCH the Academy. The snowy crone taught the young Ranni to FEAR the dark moon as she imparted her cold sorcery. The Full/Dark Moon is like an evil version of the Greater Will who bewitch and instil fear. Where does it say that the Moon will grant free will to the people?

wish there was an age of rot questline for Goddess Malenia

The 4 "non-unique" endings make sense lore-wise. All four are an age of some kind of order, which is what the Greater Will wants. The Age of Stars and the Frenzied Flame ending are actual diversions from the Greater Will, rejecting order itself.

It's funny how in Dark Souls u got tricked to link the fire by gods to preserve their age, and then here u gotta link the flame of chaos to end the greater will instead, what are they trying to say? Are we craving for Age of Dark is the reason Dark Souls end? Is that it? -NotPossesedYura

i am not gonna just kill multiple elden lords and the golden order just to give it to ranni who did not do **** and blaidd goes mad and iji dies

man i rlly wanna become elden lord, but my ass will go back to being maidenless if melina sacrifces herself, well goddammit, ig ill go see what ranni is up to so i can get a replacement girl (also if melina is gonna die HOW DO I LVL UP MORE!?)

The Ranni ending is my favorite, lot of things to do in her quest, and overall, she is a cool character. I would have loved an ending like the Shura ending in Sekiro. An ending of pure evil, where I alone decide to bring chaos and death to all, where none a single individual gets any kind of benefit out of my own selfish actions. With every ending in Elden Ring, someone gains something. Even the Flame of Frenzy ending it's an event that others want. I believe and ending like that would be the "Chadiest" of all, free of the internet nonsense. I wonder if Shadows of the Erdtree can give us a new ending...

I know its a bit ambiguous, but I still think the age of duskborn's description is wrong. The mending rune of the death prince is a separate thing than the Rune of Death, AKA Destined Death, which was sealed for the golden order. Fia wants to end the persecution of those who live in dead. It makes way more sense for that to involve bringing them into the order than like, ending undeath and immortality as a concept. The deathbed companions as a concept evolved to revive people *from* their deathbeds, and Godwyn is reborn as a rune, not laid to rest. The fact that the golden order is basically undeath anyways just shows how artificial the persecution is anyways.

holy sheeet mate, you lads really take these cutscenes seriously

I'm not going to lie to you, I love this game but 4 of the 6 endings are garbage, it's the same ending but different colors. On the other hand, the End of the Frenzied Flame and the Stellar Age are pretty cool, Ranni's quest is by far the best questline in the entire game, anyway I understand that you hate Ranni but if you decide to throw away all your effort Throw it away and let Blaid's death be in vain just because you fall in love with Godwyn The Corpse, honestly you have bad taste

Sorry gold mask, but your questline is boring AF. Not bossfight? no cool characters? really? I still haven't decided whether to make the Flenzi Flame or the Dark Moon as my new God. What ever The Golden Order is like communism, it doesn't work and doesn't deserve a second chance.

Have you ever wonder why the Eternal Cities have their buildings mostly intact but their population completely gone? If the population were hit with meteors or perished in a war, surely the buildings would be badly damaged. Seems to me that the population may have “ascended” to become a gigantic graven mass (The Full/Dark Moon) which is now the entity served by the Carians and the Academy. The Moon is obviously not some space rock since it is literally said to “bewitch” and has wisdom. And we know that the Snow Crone fears the Moon; why would she fears the Moon if it’s just some random space rock? It’s amazing that some ignore these and pretend that Age of Stars is the best ending because they like their lolli puppet.

Dunno about others but the whole "revolution against authority" shtick that Ranni champions is so immature and so out of touch with real world situations and necessities, that I automatically lose any interest/engagement in her or her Age of Stars. I certainly don't think that simply casting off the shackles or freeing yourself from authority is any sort of solution when it comes to ruling a continent (in which the exact opposite is kind of implied). As far as Age of the Stars is concerned, one can't have their cake and eat it too, either Ranni intends to simply replace the Golden Order with her Dark Moon order and become the new Marika, or she intends to leave the Lands Between after having achieved her "revolution" and not interfere in its affairs (the popular interpretation). It is her actions that ultimately led to the chaotic current state of the world, and neither scenario is worth that, bluntly speaking.

can i do mutiple endings on the same savegame?

GOLDMASK'S ENDING IS OBJECTIVELY THE BEST DO NOT BE FOOLED BY RANNI'S PORCELAIN SNATCH

ur human rights are invalidated if u unironically pick dung eater ending

ur no summons run is invalidated if u summon Ranni for the ending

I have to say, a lot of the responses on this page have me thinking that most of the commentators are: A: hateful to the wiki page writers and think they're trying to write fanfics based on what they like.. which is dumb cause like, the game is made in a way where you're supposed to interpret it vaguely, so get over it XD. B: Hateful towards people who like Ranni, as they intentionally try and come up with the worst interpretations of the Age of Stars imaginable so they can continue to hold their interpretation of Ranni as the Evil instigator of the Shattering, instead of the morally gray character From meant her to be.. Like there's so much "Simps deserve hate" stuff in here I'm like wow. C: Think Dung's Ending is awesome because apparently they think it makes everyone equal by turning them into omens? I mean.. that's a valid interpretation, I won't judge.. feel free, honestly the least bad commentary I've seen here.. theory craft away on this. D: Some dumb trolls who said they picked Frenzied Flame and then burned Melina before hand so they can trigger people into getting mad at them cause they've got a fetish for making people mad at them like a great number of sad people on the internet. You're not special man, we've seen commentators like you so many times its boring, find something else to bait us. I suppose what I mean to say is: "You all are just spicy.. please get along, no need to argue" XD

Best ending is Lord of frenzied flame simply because Melina whines against it. I always get her to sacrifice herself, then go get frenzied, so she gets major fukkd.

fia = ntr rushia scandal happened parallel to the release of this game and sparked war in europe rushia is fia you have been properly warned

there should be a ending where you just shove all three mending runes in the elden ring, summon ranni and become the lord of frenzy flame.

Secret ending but it's just Boggart beating the holy living brakes out of Dung Eater for 5 minutes straight

the visit all endings

There should be an ending where you put all three mending runes, summon ranni and become the lord of chaos.

I'm gonna stick with Age of Duskborn simply because Godwyn was done dirty and he deserves to be put to rest.

Ranni ending is remarkably similar to goldmasks. Instead of putting a ring around the elden ring and preventing any other god from messing with it(I interpreted this as after Marika’s destined death, the next god will become vessel of the elden ring, however they can’t alter any of the runes, ensuring that destined death and all the runes inside that keeps the world functioning won’t be changed). In Ranni’s ending, Ranni removes the greater wills influence(aka Elden ring, seen from how Marika dissolved alongside the Elden ring in her body) from the lands between, basically achieving the same thing as goldmasks ending. The difference in these two endings, in essence, is whether you still want the greater will in charge or not.

This is my, prince lothric’s ranking on each ending( note this is a joke list so don’t take anything seriously) Lord of frenzy- too much fire, reminds me of……that Ranni-i don’t like the moon, I don’t like the dolls, so nope nope nope Death-eh, I have no clue what this ending is supposed to mean, if it means everyone is mortal, then nope, if it means everybody is now a skeleton even more nope Dung- eh I’m already basically cursed Fracture-the world stays the same, I don’t really have much of a opinion on this one Golden order- I guess it’s better then most of the other options, that’s about it Best ending- not fixing elden ring or setting the world on fire or having a moon lady be elden lord and letting the world fell into darkness.

I am done Ranni's questline, and have not used the forge yet . I am currently standing outside the 3 finger door ("frenzied flame Proscription" SoG); if i go and talk to the 3 fingers, does that lock me out of Ranni's ending?

Yeah no, not buying that mistranslation crap. The interview with the translators said that they would carefully go over the dialogue with Miyazaki to make sure they translated his intent correctly. Ranni's never going to touch you, as soon as you get to space she'll just let go and watch as you get spaghettified into a black hole without remorse saying she cannot allow you to hold her back.

Whoever wrote the Age of Order ending description sure seems to firmly believe the whole "flame of ambition" motif ties into Goldmask's ideology, when absolutely nothing in the game implies this sort of connection. This description reads like pure fanfic free association.

I want to kill all Land octopi, giant hands and runebears NO MATTER THE COLETERAL DAMAGE

where is the octopus ending?

So the age of Stars ending is total uncontrolled anarchy, without any Order or law, while the deathblight and Scarlet rot infect the Land between. Yes, truly a good ending.

I went with Ranni, just to hear her voice..one more time and for the game; eternally. The other endings were uninspiring.

My favorite ending is Age of Stars but with a headcanon that I send Ranni off on her journey or whatever and stay in the Lands Between so I can turn the place up with my vassals Nepheli, Rennala, and Jerren

Who wrote that description for the age of the dusk born ending? As far as I can tell it is completely wrong. Never anywhere in the game did it imply that you were "ridding the world of immortality and allowing the natural cycle of life and death to occur for all people and creatures alike". In fact, Fia doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with the "Rune of Death" which is what Marika removed from the Elden Ring to make everybody immortal and what Malekith is guarding. Instead the thing she wants is the "Cursemark of Death" which was created by screwing around with the rune of death and killing Ranni's body and Godwin's soul which started all the "Those Who Live in Death" stuff. Also, most likely all endings besides maybe the frenzied flame ending, result in the return of the "natural cycle of life and death" due the to fact you repair the Elden Ring with your great runes, one of which just so happens to be the rune of death.

My favorite ending is Age of Stars but with a headcanon that I send Ranni on her journey or whatever then stay in the Lands Between to try and make the place tolerable with my vassals Nepheli, Rennala, and Jerren

My personal ranking of each ending from worst to best -death: basically everyone is undead and suffering……and the world is still sh**… -frenzy: you destroy a bunch of stuff, but you might not even kill everything since you might be kill but Melina, also you kill your horse so that’s a no no -ranni: basically the golden order is gone, ranni says peace out and let’s everyone else try and fix the world by them self. Also it’s only the greater will, so all the other outer gods ( most of which are more evil then the greater will) can easy over take the lands while ranni is up there for you damn honey moon. -age of fracture: nothing changes in the land between, but now your the elden lord -dung: same as fracture but now everyone is omens, which means omens will be treated better so that’s something -goldmask:basically makes a new order that now the gods have to follow the same rules as people and now the lands between is more stable as a result.

there are any differences on map/world depending of the ending?

Tbh the Age of the Duskborn Ending sounds pretty great going by the description of it

It would be awesome a Servant of Rot, St. Trina and Godslayer's endings.

It can be frustrating, but the vagueness and lack of explanation is a key part of Fromsoft's storytelling style. In Dark Souls, you are fully expected to have no idea what's going on and yet have to make a decision for the fate of the world, based only on what you've seen and been told. To be thrust into a world of mystery without much guidance and with perilous stakes is much like life itself. Look at Boggart. He is also Tarnished, but has no idea why, calling it a cruel bloody joke. He has doubts about the Erdtree but nothing conclusive. Sometimes the hero just does not know what's going on. As you explore and read more thoroughly, and interpret your findings thoughtfully, you can come closer to understanding but probably never really reach it. People still argue about Kaathe and Frampt after all these years.

I'd be kind of pissed if I was rooting for the Tarnished, just for them to go and nerf Faith, take away all the incantations, and then abandon us to go play with their favorite doll in space for a thousand years cause it said so

I really hope Shadow of Erdtree adds an ending. With Miquella's presence in the story being unresolved I am hoping for an Age of Rot ending.

The two hardest quest lines to even get a ending for is Fia's (age of the duskborn) and Ranni's (age of stars) . Those two you have to defeat multiple bosses and travel under ground.

In the Age of Ancients the world was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of gray crags, Archtrees and Everlasting Dragons. But then there was Fire and with fire came disparity. Heat and cold, life and death, and of course, light and dark. Then from the dark, They came, and found the Souls of Lords within the flame. -NotShabriri

Not gonna lie but Ranni is a baddie

Sequel will likely be a spiritual successor instead of a direct one, as is the case with DS2 and 3. Would be interesting to see then which ending is canon and its effects later on in the timeline. My guess would be Age of Fracture since it's the least "complete" ending and thus allows for the most future possibilities.

There is no ending that frees the world from influences of outer gods. Ranni ending: Ranni replaces greater will with her big moon and leaves with player for their honey1000year. Lands between is still under the control of the moon god. Frenzy flame ending: Lands between is consumed by frenzy flame, which is just another outer god. And frenzy flame can't destroy everything, e.g. other outer gods, until further evidence shows frenzy flame being the most powerful one. All other endings: Greater will still there. Since you can't escape the dominance of alien powerful intangible sentient beings(which is not necessarily bad), I'll choose the gold mask ending as the good ending. At least it looks sunny and warm.

When player can chose the ending? After last boss fight?

If they add more endings with DLC it would be cool if sellen would have an ending where you restore the primal glintstone current or whatever it is especially since she talks about you summoning her when you become elden lord just to turn into a rock. Kind of wasted potential, but if they do something it would probably be something with Miquella.

But age of order is cool and I get a nice sky…

mohg dynasty ending when

I feel like From needs to release some kind of tweet explaining exactly what the duskborn ending does. It seems to really confuse and divide players currently.

Should've been a secret ending where if you lose to Morgott too may times in a row he actually puts your foolish ambitions to rest and then deletes your save

really wish there was some completionist ending that involved all three mending runes and the knowledge you imparted to Gideon (regarding the Haligtree, Mohg and Miquella) to attain some more far-reaching solution. Right now, it's difficult to understand the consequences of each, or to what extent they will repair. The Lands Between appear at first glance to be beyond repair, curses, decay, immortality and life within death run rampant. An endless cycle. This would set the Flame of Frenzy to be the best of ending, rectifying the mistakes of the flawed emanation of the One Great, the Greater Will. "Every sin, every curse. Melt it all away. As the Lord of Chaos. No more fractures...no more birth.."

The story in this game was definitely its worst part everything else -> 10/10 story -> 1/10. So bad and every quest was the same. Do some stuff then they die. Got old quick.

Maybe endings are vague because they'll be expressed more in depth through the DLC

Would be good if the "save states" mechanic was explained.

Well, it's quite difficult to asess the endings, it's felt for me like the Lands Between is already done for good. The "normal" population reduced to a few tarnished (even those are depressed, broken, or outright insane), rest of the inhabitants are malformed or basically undead, roaming around without any purpose. The immortals/demigods/gods are dead, mad, or ceased to function on any level, and everything is infested with creatures, that only exist to kill everything in sight. Doesn't feel like any "normal" ending will help any of these. For me, Ranni's choice is the only logical one - to leave all this behind and look for something else. The most depressing part during the game (beside the obvious one - to die on every corner :) ), was that I felt it dosen't matters anything what I'm doing: Most of the "quests" end bad, or if I found somebody a bit symphatetic eventually dies anyway, or turned out to be another insane a**hole. :) So for me, Ranni's ending seems the best option.

the soulslike community when the entire series about indirect storytelling and vague interpretations has endings that are vague and open to interpretation:

You do not burn everything with the frenzied flame. You just destroy locations associated with the greater will, like roundtable and lands in between. There are other places, including land of numen and land of reeds(Japan, obviously) that may very possibly be kept intact, if they are independent or under the reins of other outer gods.

I wish more depth was added to Varre's questline leading to a Mohg/Formless Mother ending.

Wish we could have had an ending separate from the flame of frenzy ending where we could absorb the giantsflame and burn the erdtree down with the power of the fell god. Or have mohgs dynasty.

Ranni's ending is not necessary a good one, even taking original Japanese script into account. 1. We are not privy of details about how the Moon and Stars order would function, Ranni might also be just a puppet in hands of Outer God of Dark Moon 2. Leaving Lands Between unsupervised might not be a good choice. The inhabitants of this universe are deeply accustomed to godly presence being a fact that creating a sudden vacuum in this sphere may yield unpredictable results. Being unable to touch the Order means speculation, discords, wars over doctrine and so on... 3. It stands for complete lack of accountability. Crimes such as Godwyn's assassination, even if done for a grander cause, should not be left without justice. At the end of the events you and Ranni are perhaps the two most powerful beings in Lands Between, but instead of taking care of the aftermath of your revolution, atoning for what you did wrong and promising the people to preside over better future you just leave to who knows where.

Two time Ranni Ending, third might be Default, ... or another Ranni, will see

So all endings except ranni's and frenzied flame are acceptable by the golden order, that's why they bring back these tarnished, even the poop eater.

Bro lol these endings are garbage. Look, I really enjoy the game. I even like some of the vague story writing as I am the type who likes to wonder or live in suspense once in a while but jfc these endings are just lazy af and very lacking of any real satisfaction for all the e work one has to put in to finish their first souls game. I did three endings. I seriously doubt I’ll start another. Dope game but **** finale.

Fromsoftware spent their remaining 3.50$ budget to write these endings.

I WILL BECOME THE ELDEN LORD AND I WILL ENACT ORDER!

i feel it is kinda lazy how 4 of the endings are the same thing with a different Instagram filter. there is only two unironically good endings frenzied flame ending and age of stars and if you actually think giving up everything you worked for, for some blue ***** is a better ending than burning the world down you have bad taste.

It's hilarious that so many people complain of the vague endings when a lot of the lore of the game is left vague. It's up to you to piece the story together from messages and dialogue and fill in the gaps yourself.

the visit all endings

where PKCS ending go

The endings are underwhelming for everything you have to do in this game. They could've described each Age in Greater detail given and given us a glimpse of what the Lands in Between look like after.

What about the ending of absolute?.

I love the game, but the endings could use... more nods to what you've accomplished in your time in the lands between. Maybe even a unique ending where you choose not to fix the tree, but hold all the mending runes over the heads of most factions, and create your own kingdom as a tyrant ruler... Threaten to curse the land with the mending rune of the Dung Eater to ward off threats of uprisings, and falsely promise the fools that follow you by claiming that you are considering the runes that'd benefit where their sympathies are (or just what would give them the biggest gain to dangle greedy emotion over their heads). Like a tangled web, weaved to bring the world, and it's runes from easily slain whelps, to the palms of your hands. ... or you know, could just let some other doof do the last choices, go get drunk, and party. You probably would want to take it easy after a damn misadventure of a lifetime. xP
