Travis Kelce Gives Taylor Swift a Sweet Lift in New Video from Their Coachella Date Night

The couple was been spotted enjoying performances from Bleachers, Ice Spice and more artists in Indio, Calif. for the festival's first weekend

Charlotte Phillipp is a Weekend Writer-Reporter at PEOPLE. She has been working at PEOPLE since 2024, and was previously an entertainment reporter at The Messenger.

trip up from meaning

Travis Kelce brought Taylor Swift  to new heights during their Coachella outing — literally.

On April 13, the couple, both 34, were spotted by fans in the crowd of DJ Dom Dolla's set at the music festival. Countless photos and videos of their night out in Indio, Calif., have hit the internet — including a clip of Kelce lifting Swift up into the air to look over the crowd.

In the viral clip — captured by a concertgoer on TikTok and shared to X (formerly Twitter) — the Anti-Hero singer and Kansas City Chiefs tight end can be seen chatting and standing close together during the house music set, accompanied by friends. In one moment, Kelce seems to effortlessly hoist his girlfriend up into the air as she holds a drink in one hand.

"Stop he’s doing it so effortlessly," one fan commented on X. "i’m in shock."

Some have likened the moment to the iconic first scene in animated Disney classic The Lion King , in which Rafiki lifts baby Simba skyward.

The couple have had a busy first weekend of Coachella. Also on April 13, the pair was seen hanging out with Sabrina Carpenter  — who opened for her on the most recent leg of the Eras Tour — and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan . A video  taken of the group shows Swift holding court as they meet fans and are introduced to their fellow concertgoers.

In another TikTok clip posted by actress Sissy Sheridan, the group of four can be seen dancing and singing along to Swift's hit song “Karma”  as rapper  Ice Spice , who was featured on a remix of the track, performed it onstage during her own set.

In the clip, Carpenter and Keoghan, who first sparked dating rumors in late 2023, stood right in front of the couple, watching on as the rapper performed.

Swift also made headlines when she linked up with Real Housewives of New Jersey star   Teresa Giudice to pose for a photo.

Sharing the pic on Instagram on April 14, the RHONJ star's husband  Luis “Louie” Ruelas celebrated the interaction between his wife, 51, and the pop star, calling them both "absolute QUEENS."

"Two absolute QUEENS, Taylor Swift and my stunning wife," he captioned the photo, adding a selection of hashtags, including, "#GirlPower," "#Queens," "#Blessed" and "#Coachella."

Swift was also spotted at the festival showing her support for her boyfriend by wearing a baseball cap promoting New Heights , the podcast he hosts with his brother  and former NFL player Jason Kelce .

Swift and Kelce, who began dating in September , have been keeping a relatively low profile while Swift is on break from the Eras Tour and Kelce is gearing up to host  Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?

They have been spotted out on a few dates in Los Angeles over the past few weeks, and took  a trip to the Bahamas in March . A source told PEOPLE at the time that the trip was a “ much-needed break  for the both of them.”

James and Jennifer Crumbley, a school shooter's parents, are sentenced to 10-15 years

(From left) James Crumbley, his attorney Mariell Lehman, Jennifer Crumbley and her attorney Shannon Smith sit in court in Pontiac, Mich., for Tuesday's sentencing on four counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of four Oxford High School students who were shot and killed by the Crumbleys' son.

James and Jennifer Crumbley, whose son murdered four classmates and shot seven other people at Oxford High School in 2021, were each sentenced Tuesday in a Pontiac, Mich. courtroom to between 10 and 15 years in prison.

Both Crumbleys were found guilty in separate trials on four counts of involuntary manslaughter. Each of those charges carried a maximum penalty of 15 years, and the sentences are to be served concurrently.

In court, the Crumbleys looked visibly shaken, breathing heavily as they read from prepared statements prior to learning their fate.

James Crumbley spoke directly to the parents of the students his son had murdered. Several family members attended the sentencing.

"I am sorry for your loss as a result of what my son did," he said. "I cannot express how much I wish that I had known what was going on with him or what was going to happen. Because I absolutely would have done a lot of things differently."

In her statement, Jennifer Crumbley said she, her husband and her son, Ethan, were an average family.

"We weren't perfect but we loved our son and each other tremendously," Crumbley said. "This could be any parent up here in my shoes. Ethan could be your child, could be your grandchild, your niece, your nephew, your brother, your sister. Your child could make the fatal decision not just with a gun but a knife, a vehicle, intentionally or unintentionally."

The teenagers who lost their lives during the shooting rampage were Justin Shilling and Madisyn Baldwin, both 17, Tate Myre, 16, and 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana. Six other students and a teacher were injured.

When it was time for their families to speak, several members described how the murders still haunted them.

Nicole Beausoleil, whose daughter Madisyn Baldwin was shot at point blank range, told the Crumbleys buying their son a gun when he was already spiraling into despair made them just as responsible as the shooter.

"Not only did your son kill my daughter but you both did as well. The words 'involuntary' should not be a part of your offense. Everything you did that day, months prior and days after were voluntary acts (helping) your son to commit a murder. Not just one, but multiple," Beausoleil said.

A rare prosecution

The Crumbleys are believed to be the first parents of a mass school shooter to have been charged and convicted of such crimes. Many legal experts say it could set a precedent for charging parents with serious crimes because of actions taken by their child.

Their son, Ethan Crumbley, pleaded guilty to murder and previously was sentenced to life without parole for the school shooting he carried out when he was 15.

Prosecutors never claimed the parents knew about their son's plans to go on a killing spree at Michigan's Oxford High School. However, they argued the Crumbleys ignored signs their son was seriously troubled and bought him a powerful Sig Sauer 9mm handgun as an early Christmas present.

They never told counselors about the gun they gifted their child when they were called to a meeting at the school the day of the shooting, not even when they were shown drawings the teen made. The images featured a pistol resembling the Sig Sauer alongside a figure with bullet wounds and phrases like "blood everywhere" and "help me, the thoughts won't stop."

Instead, the Crumbleys left their son at school and returned to work. A few hours later, Ethan emerged from a school bathroom with the gun and began firing his first of 32 shots.

Prosecutors told the jury if the Crumbleys had taken a "tragically few steps," four Oxford students would likely still be alive.

They showed evidence that the murder weapon was never properly secured away from their troubled son.

In court, Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald used the murder weapon to demonstrate how to use a cable lock to keep the gun from being fired.

The process took about 10 seconds.

A 'chilling' lack of remorse

The prosecution had asked for the Crumbleys to serve 10 to 15 years in prison, citing what they called a "chilling lack of remorse" on the part of both parents after the shooting.

Prosecutors noted that Jennifer Crumbley testified during her trial that "I've asked myself if I would've done anything differently. And I wouldn't have."

And they pointed to repeated profanity-laced threats James Crumbley made against Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald on jailhouse phone calls he knew were being recorded, as well as in an electronic message.

'Mistakes any parent could make'

James Crumbley's attorney countered that his client had not physically threatened the prosecutor, he merely "vented" his anger over what he saw as an unjust incarceration.

The Crumbleys said they, too, were victims of their son, who they claimed had "manipulated" them into the purchase of a gun they had no idea he would use to kill.

They argued they made "mistakes any parent could make," given the information they had.

Defense attorneys for the couple noted an Oxford High counselor determined Ethan could remain in school the day of the shooting because he did not seem to pose a danger to himself or anyone else.

The couple maintained they thought their son was a normal teenager simply depressed over the loss of his grandmother, a pet dog and a friend who had moved away.

In a pre-sentencing interview with state officials, Jennifer Crumbley said that with the benefit of hindsight, "There are so many things I would change if I could go back in time."

Defense claims extra prison time unnecessary

The Crumbleys had asked to be sentenced to time served.

Defense attorneys argued the parents had already spent more than two and a half years in prison locked in a cell for 23 hours a day, and that further prison time was not necessary because the Crumbleys were not a threat to the public.

Defense attorney Shannon Smith also said more time would not deter others from committing a similar offense because "there is no person who would want the events of Nov. 30, 2021, to repeat themselves."

Smith added that, far from being the uncaring, remorseless mother prosecutors had portrayed to the public and the media, Jennifer Crumbley was focused on her son and distraught over the devastation her son caused.

In a sentencing memo, Jennifer Crumbley's parents and others pleaded with the court for leniency. A young woman, who said she was 18 when she became Crumbley's cellmate for a year and a half, also wrote to the judge.

She said Crumbley had greeted her with a basket of snacks and served as a mother figure to her.

The woman also wrote that inmates screamed threats at Crumbley, who tearfully told them she was sorry and "wished she could change everything her son had done."

Though Judge Cheryl Matthews sentenced the Crumbleys to the stiffest penalty possible, she said that the sentences were not designed to send a message to other parents or prosecutors that they should hold families responsible for children's crimes.

"These convictions are not about poor parenting. These convictions confirm repeated acts, or lack of acts, that could have halted an oncoming runaway train. About repeatedly ignoring things that would make a reasonable person feel the hair on the back of their neck stand up," Matthews said.

Moments after they were sentenced, the Crumbleys began filling out paperwork in the courtroom for an appeal.

Their son, Ethan, who pleaded guilty in October 2022 to murder and terrorism charges, is also likely to appeal his sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

Taylor Swift reps ‘New Heights’ during Coachella trip with Travis Kelce

At the festival, Swift wore a green New Heights hat, supporting Travis and Jason’s popular podcast — which also helped spark her relationship with Travis.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift walk together after the 2024 AFC Championship game.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce spent the weekend down in the desert at Coachella. Swift didn’t hit the stage herself, but spent the weekend taking in other performances with Kelce and supporting friends like Ice Spice and Jack Antonoff on Saturday.

At the festival, Swift wore a green New Heights hat, supporting Travis and Jason’s popular podcast — which also helped get her and Travis together.

“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift told Time Magazine for her Person of the Year profile. “We started hanging out right after that.”

» READ MORE: Jason Kelce and Lil Dicky discuss the ‘flagrant mistakes’ of the Sixers’ Process

It appears the online New Heights store is now selling the green hat Swift wore . Travis wore the same hat on the most recent episode .

Swift was pictured in the hat all over the festival — in the pit, backstage, and even with an Instagram-famous dog.

She’s never appeared on New Heights herself, but Travis often drops short insights about their relationship on the show.

“I don’t know how I did it because she was not into sports, so I don’t know how the [expletive] I did it,” Travis joked about how they got together on last week’s episode of the show.

Maybe, one day, Swift will appear as a special guest? But until then, Jason might have some words for Travis about their weekend in the desert on Wednesday’s episode. Swifties definitely want to hear more about this move.

Stop Squatters Before It’s Too Late: How To Keep Unlawful Occupants From Taking Over Your Home

Squatting is on the rise: Across the country, homeowners have returned to their vacant properties only to discover that squatters have broken in, made themselves comfortable, and are refusing to leave.

Even worse, very little can be done to get them out.

KIRO 7 News in Washington reported last fall on Rainer Valley homeowner Jason Roth , who had a tenant who was no longer making rent payments but refused to leave the property. Without that rental income, Roth was forced to give up his own home and live in his car. Meanwhile, his squatter was not only living in Roth’s property rent-free, but also renting out the basement on Airbnb.

Homeowners who attempt to take the law into their own hands often find that these attempts backfire. This was the case with Adele Andaloro —who, after finding his childhood home occupied by squatters, changed the locks. Police ended up arresting Andaloro, while her squatters remained on her property.

Sometimes, confrontations between homeowners and squatters can turn violent or even deadly.

In March, 52-year-old Nadia Vitel entered her family’s New York apartment only to find it occupied by two teen squatters. They allegedly killed Vitel, stuffing her into a duffel bag in the closet, where she was later discovered by her son.

Why squatting is on the rise

Squatting surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, when many states eased their housing regulations and allowed renters to remain in their homes even if they couldn’t make their monthly payments. During the same period, the housing market exploded. Rents shot up, home prices rose to all-time highs, and inflation skyrocketed, leaving many unable to pay for housing.

Real estate professional and attorney Bruce Ailion , of Re/Max Town & Country in Atlanta, chalks the rise in squatting up to “economic stress.”

“With unemployment at or near 50-year lows and ‘Help Wanted’ signs in every storefront, it is hard to understand economic stress,” says Ailion. “Yet there are people with low education, no skills, mental health and physical health challenges who cannot afford a place to live. COVID-era eviction bans protected some of these people, and they became accustomed to not paying for a place to live.”

Once trespassers make their way into a home, it is difficult to get rid of them due to strong tenants’ rights laws—and, in some cases, squatters’ rights.

In New York, for instance, squatters can’t be evicted after just 30 days of living in a property. These rights mean a property owner can’t change the locks to the home to keep the squatter out, turn off utilities, or dispose of the squatter’s possessions in the home. Instead, the only recourse a homeowner has is to take the squatter to court and wage a costly legal battle.

How to stop squatters

What can a homeowner do with a vacant property—whether a vacation home or an empty house awaiting sale or rent—to deter squatters?

“The key to protecting yourself from squatters is preventing them from entering in the first place,” says Ailion. “Once a squatter has possession of the home in Georgia, it is currently more difficult to get them out than getting a delinquent tenant out.”

To prevent your dream home from becoming a squatter nightmare, here are five strategies for preventing illegal inhabitants from taking over your property.

1. Level up your home security

If potential squatters can’t get in, you don’t have to worry about getting them out, so the first line of defense is to make your property impenetrable. This means fortifying all entry points, including doors, windows, and other potential access areas.

But you must think like a squatter bent on taking over your home and invest in next-level locks.

“We have had squatters break open a lockbox, had a locksmith rekey to enter, and people use a key they legitimately got out of a coded lockbox,” says Alion

He advises forgoing cheap locks and deadbolts, which he can open “in about 10 seconds.” Instead, he buys directly from a locksmith, who has higher-grade locks that are hard to compromise.

As for windows, reinforce them with security bars or screw them shut. Once every entry point is locked down, monitor the home with a video security system.

“Ring and Amazon’s Alexa are popular, but if you desire stronger privacy and cybersecurity settings, there are other reliable brands like LaView and local favorites like Virtually Automated,” says Lee Davenport , a real estate coach, author, and former Re/Max managing broker.

You can also add motion-sensing lights or alarms and post “No Trespassing” signs around your property to reinforce your legal rights and discourage unauthorized entry.

2. Make your home look like someone’s living there

Squatters often target properties that appear vacant for extended periods. To prevent this perception, create the illusion that someone is currently living in a vacant property.

“Make the home look occupied with a car in the driveway and lights on timers that go on and off regularly,” says Ailion. He also suggests adding security signs, one that says the property is patrolled for security and one that reads “Beware of Dog”—even if you don’t employ a security company or have a dog.

“One client of mine got a device that, when it detected motion outside, would start loudly barking, and I mean loudly barking,” says Ailion. “I had an agent call to say she was afraid to go inside because of the dog.”

Making your home look lived-in will help to discourage potential squatters from attempting to take over.

3. Regularly stop by your home

Keeping a virtual eye on your property is great, but seeing your property with your own eyes is crucial for detecting any unauthorized activity or signs of squatting early.

“Regular property inspections can help identify any signs of unauthorized occupancy early on,” says Armstead Jones , strategic real estate adviser at House Cashin.

If you live too far away for timely check-ins, establish a network of trusted neighbors or nearby friends who can report any suspicious behavior or potential squatters on your property. By staying vigilant and proactive in monitoring your property, you can intervene promptly if squatters attempt to encroach.

4. Take legal action ASAP

Establish legal property ownership to assert your rights and deter squatters. If you’ve inherited a home, ensure that all necessary paperwork, including deeds and property titles , is current and reflects your ownership.

If your property is part of a homeowners association or governed by specific regulations, stay informed about any requirements or procedures related to property ownership.

Also keep in mind that, despite your best efforts, there’s always a possibility that squatters might attempt to take over your property.

If they do, it’s essential to take immediate legal action to reclaim possession of your property and prevent further trespassing or damage.

Contact local law enforcement to report the squatting activity and ask for their help ousting the squatters. Note that police usually can’t remove squatters, so you’ll have to call your local sheriff instead. If the squatters refuse to leave, consult a qualified attorney specializing in property law to understand your rights and legal options for eviction proceedings.

To support your case in court, document all evidence of squatting and property damage, including photographs, witness statements from neighbors, and any communication with the squatters.

5. Don’t go the vigilante route

If you find someone on your property who won’t leave, don’t take matters into your own hands.

“I’ve had two squatters in an inventory of 80 homes,” says Ailion. “One was what seemed like a homeless young woman. Against my advice, the owners flew here from Canada, hired a mercenary, ex-Marine Special Forces, to watch the house, and when she left, took possession and secured it with the measures I outlined above.”

While the homeowners were able to reclaim their home, Ailion says this route is “physically dangerous” and opened the homeowners to “possible legal consequences.” (Ailion is part of a political advocacy team in Georgia pushing the Squatter Reform Act, which has passed the state House and is waiting for approval from the state Senate. The bill “gives magistrates additional powers to process criminal trespass violations and introduces the offense of unlawful squatting.”)

“Some people may squat with malicious intent, but others may be down on their luck,” Davenport adds. “Our aim can be to direct the latter to resources that can help them get back on their feet.”

Prince Harry lines up London trip after not speaking to Prince William, Kate Middleton for a year

Prince Harry is set to return to the UK in just a few weeks — sparking questions over whether he will finally see Prince William and cancer-stricken Kate Middleton , after not speaking to his brother in more than a year.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, is slated to speak at a special service marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, the Olympics-style contest for wounded service personnel which he founded, at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8.

The potential visit comes as it was revealed Monday that Harry has lost an initial bid to appeal against a High Court ruling over his personal security in the UK.

In February, he lost his legal challenge against the Home Office’s decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the UK as he’s no longer a working royal.

A well-placed source said, “Everyone is asking whether Harry will see his father and will he see Kate and the Wales kids — if not his brother?”

Harry has spent the past few days in Florida with his wife, Meghan Markle, 42, where they were seen canoodling as they made their new polo show for Netflix. However, she is not expected to join Harry in the UK.

Harry founded the Invictus Games to help wounded servicemen and women, and the British Government has now launched a £26million bid to host the games in Birmingham in 2027.

They were most recently held in Düsseldorf, Germany last summer and have also been hosted by cities including Orlando, Florida, in 2016 and Sydney, Australia, in 2018.

The timing of next month’s visit could well allow Harry to see his father, King Charles, who is also battling cancer, and potentially Kate and his nephews, Prince George and Prince Louis, and niece Princess Charlotte.

Harry is keen to mend ties with his family and jetted more than 5000 miles from his home in California to see his dad in London after it was revealed he was sick back in February – spending just 40 minutes with him.

A source in the Sussex crowd said, “I can imagine that Harry may see his father, and check in, but things are still very fraught with William, this is the real problem.”

William and Harry have not spoken for more than a year in the wake of Harry’s bombshell memoir, alongside hurtful claims that Charles and Kate were the “racist” royals who asked what color Harry and Meghan’s children would be.

Prince William and Prince Harry share a joke together, dressed in flight jumpsuits.

While Harry was told about his father’s illness before it was made public, both he and his wife were kept in the dark about Kate’s medical crisis and found out at the same time as the rest of the world, sources told Page Six.

“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement. They also are believed to have reached out directly to William and Kate.

Prince Harry smiling with his hands joined together in apparent prayer.

We revealed how Charles is set to invite the Sussexes’ and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the Scottish royal estate, Balmoral, this summer as he is desperate to see his grandchildren.

However, the Suxxeses and the Wales could visit separately.

Reps for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were unavailable for comment.
