Based on my experience taking hundreds of rideshare rides over the past few years, the average ride in a large city is between $10-$25, while the average ride in the suburbs is between $15-$35.

Shorter rides in the city will naturally cost much less, as rides in the suburbs almost always cover far more mileage.

Upfront fares are calculated by totaling the base fare, expected time, distance rates, traffic patterns, surges, and any expected tolls that might affect the journey. The resulting value then appears as the upfront fare.

Riders get price estimates for their rides before they request them. While this can sometimes change, these estimates are usually accurate.

We pay for higher gas and car maintenance. . All hidden fees. There 150 M for prop 22. We are patting for that. Bonus to flood the market with drives and then they take away any real bonus. Jus like any minimum wage job if you calculate cost. Doing it is called experience. Reporting it is a theory. Fact tells story sells! Remember that.

Uber takes alot more than 25%. Up to 50% on some rides. With the rising cost of fuel, drivers should be getting a larger percentage. I would live it if we got a 75/25 split,on avg, it’s more like 60/40 in the Dallas market.

What city does Uber take 25% in? I get less than 50% of my fare here in San Antonio

Uber no longer gives a set amount for mileage and time. Instead it is a sliding scale and they have not released information yet on what the range of that sliding scale is in any market, nor how they calculate when a ride falls in the higher end of the scale versus when it falls in the lower end. What I have experienced in my 6500+ rides is that I have averaged between 60%-65% of the billed amount. Recently, with the new format, I have had rides that I only received 45% of what the passenger paid, but I have had at least one where I received more than 100% of what the passenger paid (Uber had to reach into their own pocket to pay me the guaranteed amount.) About surge pricing, it has been at least 2 – 2.5 years since drivers have seen a multiplier on their screen telling the surge amount. Instead it has been a set dollar amount like $5 extra per ride. This means the driver could be getting a much lower percentage of the total billed amount for that ride, or it could mean that the driver gets 100% of what was billed, depending on the surge amount and the distance of the ride. (In a high surge amount area, shorter rides are more profitable percentage-wise, and there is a higher likelihood of multiple surge-priced rides in a row if they are shorter rides. But longer rides, though a lower percentage payout, may still be better, since you may not be sitting in traffic as much if your fare takes you away from the congestion.)

What’s going on at Uber in 2022, Things have gone from bad to terrible in the last 8 or 9 months. Customers complain of high Uber fares; but Uber drivers are complaining of lower and lower earning. What happening… Losses experienced by Uber over lawsuit settlements and dropping share values are causing the company to take earnings more from driver’s earnings. It’s done by using new pay models which allow more of what’s collected from customers to be categorized as fee and service charges instead of customer fare (up front pricing (BS!)). When Uber does this, they can claim that the driver is entitled to only the trip-related portion of the customer’s payment and not the total amount collected from the customer. Look at a portion the payment record for a recent long trip I gave (I will stop giving long trips to riders going forward). This trip was just over 36mi, from DCA airport to Leesburg VA and took an hour one way (so, of course, I had to return empty). The customer paid $95.21–$49.92 to the driver; $40.29 to Uber (Service fee = $30.29, Booking Fee = $10.00) ; $5.00 airport fee. I filed a fare review to request additional fare to cover my return expenses. This is Uber’s response

And I will for any future fare disputes that arise out of Uber’s now overly aggressive attitude regarding the fares I’m working to earn while providing my services to their customers. Uber takes on average 45% of every ride and some rides they make more than we do. They add surcharges and then take more out of those rides. It doesn’t go to the driver.

I paid $165 from lax to San Marino on a Saturday night. WOW ordinarily that trip costs $40 to $50. During the week I know it is higher on Saturday night but we had no traffic In my opinion way to high ok gas has gone up but I think I rather pay a relative the money or someone local

The good news is that Uber provides upfront cost estimates right inside the app.

The best way to get an Uber fare estimate is to use the Uber.com price estimate tool or get the Uber app and input your ride. Both tools give you an instant price estimate for any ride.

How to get a price estimate in the Uber app

• Download the Uber app and open it
• Input your destination in the “Where to?” text box
• Fare estimates for each Uber service will appear after you input your destination. Scroll to see how much other services cost, and tap on each price to get more detailed pricing info

You can also request your ride from Uber.com without using the app if you have an Uber account.

The Uber.com tool doesn’t enter your starting destination, so it’s an easy way to estimate prices outside of your city. And it’s the only way to get an estimate without downloading the Uber app.

How Uber calculates ride prices

Uber makes it easy to see how much a ride will cost, but they do not publish a pricing formula that tells you exactly how they come up with ride prices.

Uber has two pricing models: The upfront pricing system and post-trip prices. Most cities use upfront pricing, but some still use post-trip prices.

In cities with upfront pricing, the app displays a guaranteed price before you request a ride. The cost is based on the trip length, local demand, and other factors.

In cities with post-trip prices, you won’t know the exact cost of the ride until it is over. Before you request your ride, the app shows you a range of estimated prices instead of one precise price.

The final price is calculated based on a rate card that determines the per-mile and per-minute price.

Upfront pricing: See how much you will pay before your ride

With upfront pricing, Uber shows you an upfront price as soon as you enter your destination. It is the pricing system in most US cities.

You are guaranteed to pay the upfront price as long as you don’t make any extra stops along the way and the trip doesn’t take significantly longer than expected.

The ride receipt will explain why an upfront price wasn’t honored. Any additional charges will be based on distance rates or dynamic pricing charges.

How does Uber calculate upfront prices?

Uber states , “ Many data points go into calculating an upfront price, including the estimated trip time, distance from origin to destination, time of day, route, and demand patterns. ”

With so many undefined data points, it’s impossible to predict exactly how prices work in upfront pricing. Variables like ‘demand patterns’ mean that prices can increase during busy times, but Uber does not tell you the details.

In ride receipts, Uber only tells you the ‘trip fare.’ They don’t say how they calculated the trip fare or any specific per-mile or per-minute cost.

With upfront pricing there’s no detail about how Uber calculates the ‘trip fare’

Post-trip prices: The other pricing model that uses a rate card

Uber uses post-trip prices in cities that don’t offer upfront pricing. If your city uses this model, you will see a range of potential prices when you input your destination.

You won’t know the exact cost of your ride until the ride is complete. The final price is calculated based on the local rate card, which specifies the per-mile and per-minute rates.

This pricing model also may take into account a base fare, a booking fee, surcharges, tolls, and dynamic pricing.

Explanations of Uber pricing criteria

The factors below contribute to the cost of an Uber, for both the upfront pricing system and post-trip prices.

• Base rate – A flat fee charged at the beginning of the ride
• Booking fee  – A variable fee to cover ‘operational costs’
• Cost per minute – A charge for each minute of the ride
• Cost per mile – A charge for each mile of the ride
• Marketplace Fee  – Replaces the booking fee in California. A variable fee to support regulatory, safety, and operational costs
• Tools and surcharges – Passengers pay for tolls, and surcharges like airport fees
• Dynamic pricing – Additional charges based on local demand

The price difference between Uber ride types

Uber prices depend on the city you’re in and the Uber ride type you use. Economy rides like Uber X will be cheaper than luxury services like Uber Black.

An example of Uber rates in Los Angeles

To give you a feel for the range of Uber rates, here’s a look at basic costs in Los Angeles. LA features almost every Uber service, and the prices aren’t much higher or lower than other US Uber markets.

But note that Uber’s use of dynamic and upfront pricing means that ride prices aren’t strictly calculated based on the criteria below.

How to find the price per mile and per minute

First, input a destination in the Uber app. Then tap on a ride type, such as UberX, then tap on the small ‘i’ on the following screen. This will display a ‘fare breakdown’ that lists pricing info.

But keep in mind that with upfront pricing, dynamic factors make it so you can’t precisely calculate the price of a ride with per-mile and per-minute pricing alone.

An example ride

This table shows that the same ride has a different price depending on the service you choose.

Note: This ride is 2.3 miles and 11 minutes long. The price may change due to the time of day, traffic conditions, discounts, or surge pricing.

The minimum fare: The cheapest an Uber can be

Uber sets a minimum fare for each service to help fairly reimburse drivers for short rides. Thanks to upfront pricing, you’ll know immediately if a very short trip will be more expensive than you expect.

Let’s say you want to take an UberX two blocks down the street. You figure that the ride couldn’t cost more than a few dollars. But the minimum fare for UberX is $6.50, so you will be charged $6.50. You walk instead.

Uber surge pricing: Higher prices when demand is high

Uber may add an additional cost called surge pricing during times of high rider demand. Surge pricing changes dynamically depending on local driver supply and rider demand.

Uber indicates surge pricing with a small warning that prices are higher than normal. The exact cost of the surge pricing is not displayed. After the ride is over the trip receipt will not say exactly how much the surge charge was.

If you’re looking for a ride and the prices seem abnormally high, you can wait and see if the price goes down after a few minutes. If you’re in a busy area, consider walking a few blocks away to see if prices become cheaper.

How to tip your Uber driver

You can tip your driver in the app, either during the trip or after. Drivers keep 100% of your tip. Tipping is optional, but most drivers expect and appreciate tips.

During the trip, swipe up on the trip info to see a tipping option. To tip after your ride ends, rate the driver and select a tip amount.

Uber fees and tolls

Uber has several fees and tolls that you should be aware of before you request an Uber ride.

Uber will charge a  cancellation fee if you cancel a ride two minutes after requesting the ride, or if you take longer than 5 minutes to come out to the driver after they arrive at your pickup location. The cancellation fee is typically around $5, but may vary based on the ride type.

The cost of any tolls are passed onto the passenger. The toll will be included in the upfront price if Uber expects your route to use a toll road. You will not have to give the driver cash or coins to pay the toll.

Some airports charge Airport surcharges . Any airport fees and surcharges will be included in the upfront price estimate when you request a ride.

Uber discounts: Ways to save on your ride

There are several ways to save money on Uber rides.

Uber One: A membership for $9.99 per month that offers 6% Uber Cash back on eligible rides, $0 delivery fees on eligible Uber Eats orders over $15, and 5% off pickups and deliveries.

How to schedule an Uber in advance: Uber Reserve

The Uber app allows you to schedule a ride in advance. On the home screen, tap the clock icon inside the “Where To?” search bar to schedule a ride. Next, pick the date, time, and pickup & drop-off location.

There are currently two types of scheduled rides on Uber, and the one available to you depends on your city.

Some cities have Uber Reserve, which sends your ride to nearby drivers who can accept your ride far in advance and enter it into their itinerary.

But in other cities, a scheduled ride is only an automated request that is sent out near the time that you schedule. If there are no drivers around, you won’t get a ride even though you scheduled it!

Uber ride quotes give a range for the cost of a trip. However as I got into the vehicle for the ride the app. texted that the cost was more than doubled. original price range was $21.00 to 26.00. I was charged over $54.00. Using all the options on the web site I cannot talk to a live representative of Uber. The only phone number listed for customer service take me to a third party advertising company trying to promote unrelated products. The online help field for Uber fee dispute list several options for the complaint but not for simply being overcharged. There is no option to type in the nature of my complaint. It site will not let me proceed any further.This is intentional fraud by Uber. I think I will report the issue to the Ca. PUC. Next would be a Class Action Suite against Uber. Subpoena their records and seek a large settlement on behalf of Uber customers who have been ripped off.

You should be able to find a contact form inside the ride receipt. Find the receipt in “Your Trips,” then scroll to help. There should be an option that says “Review my fare or fees.’ Uber may reduce the fare if you follow those steps

I can’t find a contact form in all the options given. My upfront price was $35. I ended up being charged $142.85 due to surge which was not disclosed at the time I booked the ride. How do I get my fare adjusted due to this error?

Usually in the trip receipt the Help area you should be able to rind ‘review my fare or fees.’ In the next list, find ‘my fare doesn’t reflect the upfront price i was shown,’ or something similar. If none of that is working, try tweeting Uber @uber_support or sending a message on facebook

My cards were all declined 4 cards! I spent nearly 1 hour trying to book a ride. Price was 22.00 HOW DID IT BECOME OVER $36.00. The ride was nice but 22 miles the ride was 15 minutes. I was outside waiting for driver. He said he arrive — he was not there. He didn’t know building #. I was outside for 5 minutes.I didn’t charge him.I’m not satisfied w your unclear charging policy.

How Much Does Uber Charge Per Mile? [2022]

If you are like me you are curious about how much Uber charges per mile.

It’s helpful to know when comparing prices and it also sheds light on how the pricing works in conjunction with other fees.

In this article I will break down everything you need to know about how much Uber charges per mile and also cover some of the other fees you will encounter, so that you will have a complete understanding of the Uber pricing system.

How much does Uber charge per mile?

The cost per mile will change based on the type of fare that you purchase and other factors like location but generally you can expect to be charged between $1 to $2 per mile.

It’s important to note that there are many other fees that go into your total fare which I will cover below.

Breakdown of Uber fees

The cost per mile is just one small fee when it comes to an Uber ride.

It helps to understand all of the different fees and charges that Uber will hit you with so that you will have a complete understanding of your Uber charges.

Here’s a list of the fees you can expect:

• Long pick up fee (If applicable)

Minimum fare

Cost per mile, cost per minute.

• Fixed Booking fee

Per-minute wait time

Let’s go through each of these individually so you can see what to expect for each one.

I will use a sample booking that I made within the Tucson, Arizona area to illustrate the prices.

The base fare is a flat fee charged at the beginning of every ride.

This is often a very small amount. For example, for a trip I pulled up in Tucson, Arizona it was only $1.30.

On other occasions, I have seen this fare below one dollar, so it is often pretty negligible.

Long pick up fee

If you have a long pick up schedule then you may be hit with per minute and per mile pick up fees.

For a sample booking I did, the per minute pick up fee was $.17 per minute and the per mile pick up fee was $.80 per mile.

(These may be the same rates as the rates during your trip while you are sitting in the car as a passenger.)

The minimum fare is a mandatory minimum amount that you must pay for your trip.

It is only relevant if your fare total would be below the minimum amount.

This fee is set in order to encourage Uber drivers to pick up individuals on short rides because otherwise such short rides would not be profitable enough to incentivize them to pick up passengers.

For a 10 minute ride in Arizona, the minimum fare came out to $9.80 for an UberX ride.

This is how much your trip is going to cost you per mile that you are riding as a passenger.

As stated above, this amount can change. For my Arizona trip, the cost per mile was $1.21.

If you have chosen a fare like UberXL , the cost per mile could be significantly higher.

For example, a simple price from Union Square to SFO in San Francisco shows a cost per mile at $2.47.

Note: If you are heading out on a very long ride that involves hours of riding then you may be charged a minimum fare of $50 per hour.

In addition to getting charged per mile, you also get charged per minute. The charge per minute is generally very low and in my case it was at $.14.

This is something to keep your eye on when traveling with some Uber drivers because it could incentivize them to take a longer drive to get you somewhere.

Because the charge per minute is so low this is not a huge concern but there could be some shady actors out there who would try to take advantage of this.

Booking fee

The booking fee, which used to be called the “safe rides fee,” is a mandatory fee that you must pay for each trip that you take. It is presumably meant to help cover things like operating costs.

This fee changes depending on the type of fare that you book.

For a UberX ride, your booking fee will probably be a little over two dollars. For example, it might be $2.15 or $2.20.

For other type of rides, the fixed booking fee can actually be a decent amount higher. When I checked the fee for a Uber comfort, the fixed booking fee was $2.86.

For other services such as UberXL, the booking fee will probably be around $2.50.

In addition to the fixed booking fee, there will also be a per mile booking fee on some rides. This is usually a very small amount and I have seen it as low as five cents per mile.

Note: You may not see this booking fee if you are booking one of the more premium services such as UberBlack or UberSUV

If your driver has to wait for you to arrive at the vehicle for a certain amount of time, such as over two minutes then you will likely be charged a wait time.

This wait time is charged per minute and the amount can vary. I’ve seen it range from something like $.25 to $.60 per minute.

The last charge that you need to think about is the tip. Tipping is optional but it is recommended to provide a little tip, typically at least 10% is good although some people like to tip more.

Surge charges

If you are trying to get a ride during a very busy time, you will likely get hit with surge charges.

This amount is calculated by taking your total fare and then multiplying it by a set surge price multiplier. The multiplier will depend on the demand at the time but it could be something like two times or three times the amount of your fare.

The price is hiked in order to encourage other drivers to come into the area to meet up with the demand of passengers.

The highest surge charges that I have came across are usually directly after a large event ends. For example, if you are leaving a stadium after a football or baseball game, those surge prices can drastically increase.

Other instances that I’ve seen involve bad weather such as a bad rain storm that comes in quickly and leaves a lot of people without the ability to walk to their destination.

Cancellation fees

There are a variety of cancellation fees that you should be aware of.

The first is a rider no-show fee. Basically, if you never show up for the driver you can be hit with a $5 fee.

If you choose to cancel the ride then you may be hit with a standard cancellation fee of $5.

There may also be additional fees based on the per mile or per minute rates.

So whatever the per minute and per mile rates are for the trip or for the pick up, you may be responsible for covering those up to the point of canceling.

How to figure out the cost per mile

If you are trying to figure out how much your trip will cost per mile, it is extremely to easy to do this with the Uber app.

Simply enter in your destination details and then select the type of Uber ride that you will be using (UberX, UberXL, etc.)

Click on the type of Uber fare you are interested and you should see an information circle next to the words “Affordable, every day rides.”

Go ahead and click on that and you will see the complete breakdown of your fare.

This is an estimate of your fare so it could differ slightly at the time that you complete the ride based on things like tolls or surcharges.

It may also change based on the length, duration, or route if your trip ends up changing.

However it is a good estimate and you can check the per mile charge is pretty easily.

As mentioned above, you will see a minimum fare per mile and also a fixed booking fee per mile.

Typically, the fixed booking fee per mile will be substantially less than the minimum fare per mile.

For example, in the UberX example that I took from Arizona the charge per mile was one dollar for the minimum fare and the charge per mile for the booking fee was five cents.

The cost per mile on an Uber ride will change based on things like the type of fare you have booked and also your location. This amount can often be between 1 to 2 dollars.

It’s important to remember that the cost per mile is just one charge among a handful of other fees that go into pricing an Uber ride.

I was trying to get a ballpark price from Shepherdsville Ky to the Talbot Tavern in Bardstown Ky tomorrow Nov 5th for 4 people leaving at 7:30 and to be picked up at midnight. With all added fees please. I have never used Uber. I really want to try it. Thank you

You will have to use uberXL for 4 people. Open your app, put in the pickup and drop off location, you will have to schedule your midnight ride and it will be more expensive than the ride at 7:30. Put in your Uber request one hour before they need to be there. If you want to be picked up at 7:30p, put in your request at 6:30p,or alternatively, you can schedule your ride for a specific pickup time but they charge extra for this. When you request your ride at 6:30p it will be a different price than if you go on your app right now and get a quote. The price they give you at 6:30p will be your exact charge, as long as you are ready to get in their car within 2 minutes of their arriving at your house. The only thing that will change the price is if you are late to the car and if you leave a tip. By the way, drivers prefer cash tips rather than leaving a tip in the app.

Need a ride today to go from Springfield hills assisted living facility to pick up a tv and return to the facility. It’s 1.2 miles each way.

What is the base fee? Is it changed every ride?

approx of a 60 mile uberx one way? what happens to driver that he /she is 60 miles from home base?is there some empty return fee? w. g

Drivers are only paid when there is a passenger in the car. The driver is paid for the 60 miles and the time it takes to drive 60 miles and that’s it. They are not paid to drive from where they were when they received the offer from Uber to get to the place where the rider is located, and if they drive out of the town they live in, they are not paid to get back to the town they live in.

Uber charges a flat rate for each mile traveled.

    Speed, Distance & Time Calculation

In order to use the above speed, distance & time calculator, or do such math on your own, you will need to know two out of three metrics: speed, distance, time. You will need to convert the metrics to the same time and distance units, e.g. miles, kilometers, meters, yards, feet, and hours, minutes or seconds. For example, if you have speed in mph (miles per hour), time should also be in hours. If you have distance in kilometers, then speed should also be in km/h (kilometers per hour).

The unit of the result will depend on the units you input, but our speed calculator will conveniently display additional units where appropriate.

    Average Speed formula

The formula for average speed, also called average velocity in physics and engineering, is:

where v is the velocity, d is the distance, and t is the time, so you can read it as Speed = Distance / Time . As noted above, make sure you convert the units appropriately first, or use our speed calculator which does that automatically. The resulting unit will depend on the units for both time and distance, so if your input was in miles and hours, the speed will be in mph. If it was in meters and seconds, it will be in m/s (meters per second).

Example: If you took a plane from New York to Los Angeles and the flight was 5 hours of air time, what was the speed of the plane, given that the flight path was 2450 miles? The answer is 2450 / 5 = 490 mph (miles per hour) average speed. If you want the result in km/h, you can convert from miles to km to get 788.58 km/h.

    Distance formula

The formula for distance, if you know time (duration) and the average speed, is:

Example: If a truck travelled at an average speed of 80 km per hour for 4 hours, how many miles did it cover in that time? To find the miles covered, first, calculate 80 * 4 = 320 km, then convert km to miles by dividing by 1.6093 or by using our km to miles converter to get the answer: 198.84 miles.

    Duration (Time) formula

The time, or more precisely, the duration of the trip, can be calculated knowing the distance and the average speed using the formula:

where d is the distance travelled, v is the speed (velocity) and t is the time, so you can read it as Time = Distance / Speed . Make sure you convert the units so both their distance and time components match, or use our trip duration calculator above which will handle conversions automatically. For example, if you have distance in miles and speed in km/h, you will need to convert speed to mph or distance to kilometers. The time unit of the result will match the time unit of the speed measure, so if it is measured in something per hour, the result will be in hours. If it is measured in some unit per second, the result will be in seconds.

Example: If a train can travel 500 miles with an average speed of 50 miles per hour, how long it would take it to complete a 500-mile route? To find the answer, use the formula and substitute the values, resulting in 500 / 50 = 10 hours.

    How to calculate the average speed of a car?

Say you travelled a certain distance with a car or another vehicle and you want to calculate what its average speed was. The easiest way to do that would be by using the calculator above, but if you prefer, you can also do the math yourself. Either way, you need to know the distance to a satisfactory approximation, for which you can use a map (e.g. Google Maps) to measure the distance from point to point. Make sure you measure closely to the path you took, and not via a straight line, unless you travelled by air in which case that would be a good approximation. Of course, having a GPS reading of the distance would be more precise. Then you need to know the travel time. Make sure you subtract any rests or stops you made from the total trip duration.

If the total distance travelled was 500 miles and the time it took you was 5 hours, then your average speed was 500 / 5 = 100 miles per hour (mph). If the distance was 300 kilometers and it took you 5 hours to cover it, your speed was 300 / 5 = 60 km/h (kilometers per hour).

So if you are going on a long drive or even to another town, cruise control can be a great way to save some money on fuel.

5. Drive at steady speeds

Driving at steady speeds helps conserve fuel because when you accelerate quickly it uses up more fuel than when acceleration occurs slowly over time. Try driving at a steady speed whenever possible in order to maximize fuel efficiency.

6. Take care of your engine

Taking care of your engine is one of the best ways to ensure maximum fuel efficiency for your vehicle. Change air filters regularly and make sure all fluids are topped off so that it runs smoothly and efficiently.

7. Avoid idling

Idling your vehicle for extended periods of time wastes a lot of fuel and can significantly reduce fuel efficiency. Whenever possible, try to turn off the engine when you’re stopped instead of letting it idle.

8 . Avoid high speeds

Driving at higher speeds can decrease your fuel efficiency significantly. Whenever possible, try to keep your speed below the posted speed limit in order to maximize fuel efficiency.

9. Use eco mode

Most modern cars come with an eco mode, which you can use to help reduce fuel consumption and get better mileage.

This mode helps reduce engine power and alters your transmission shift points in order to conserve fuel.

10. Drive smarter

Last but not least, smart driving is the best way to reduce fuel usage and save money in the long run.

Smart driving techniques include accelerating slowly, avoiding sudden braking and idling, using cruise control, and following the speed limit.

By driving more efficiently you can reduce your overall fuel costs while also being kinder to the environment.
