The M27 motorway is located on the south coast of England and runs from Southampton, through Portsmouth to Fareham. It was built as a single two lane carriageway in 1971 and upgraded to a three lanes carriageway in 1989. The motorway is managed by Highways England and is part of the South Central England trunk road network.

In terms of safety records, the M27 is one of the safest motorways in the UK and the rate of serious accidents is significantly lower than on other motorways with similar traffic and traffic complexity. In the last 12 months, there have been 10 reported serious casualties, including 4 fatalities and 6 severe injuries, which is below the national average for all motorways. This includes 22 collisions involving injury and 113 collisions with no reported injuries.

M27 traffic: Serious collision closes westbound carriageway at J3 as queues back up to M3 and M271

aa travel news m27

Part of the M27 in Hampshire has been shut following a serious collision.

The westbound carriageway is closed between J3 for the M271 and J2 for Ower.

Emergency services including Hampshire Police are currently at the scene.

The road is expected to remain closed for several hours while investigations take place, with drivers urged to follow diversion routes.

Queues due to the closure are stretching several miles, with traffic now backed up past Eastleigh near to Junction 11 for Winchester on the M3 and to Redbridge on the M271.

Traffic monitoring service, TomTom, estimates motorists will be queuing for at least 50 minutes to reach the junction for the M27.

There are delays of over half an hour on the M3/M27 spur - as the road is taken down to two lanes past Rownhams services.

National Highways has estimated the road may not reopen until 2030 this evening (Friday 11 August).

Local routes are also experiencing major delays. There is significant disruption in Romsey as drivers divert.

Motorists can expect delays of 90 minutes from the M27 to Romsey- as traffic is slow on approach to the market town.

Traffic is backed up through Romsey and out towards Winchester - with delays upwards of 60 minutes from the city towards Romsey.

A significant number of roads are now congested in Southampton , with queues of 45 minutes reported on several routes.

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to a serious collision on the M27 and the road is closed a junction 3 while emergency services attend. "Please can we ask you avoid the area at this time."

The following diversions are in place:

Leave the M27 westbound at J3 and at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the M271 northbound.

At the roundabout with the A3057 take the 2nd exit to join the A3057 heading north.

Continue to the A3057/A27 roundabout and take the 1st exit onto the A27.

Proceed to the A27/A3090 roundabout and take the 1st exit to join the A3090.

Follow the A3090 for 3 miles to the next roundabout and take the 1st exit to join the A36.

Continue on the A36 to the M27 J2 interchange and use the 3rd exit to rejoin the M27 westbound.

The road has since reopened.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark already is one of the WNBA’s most recognizable players.

So when she made her first road trip last week, the league’s top overall draft pick had to adapt. Instead of loading her bag directly onto a plane and boarding, Clark found herself traversing the same lines and waits as everyone else at the Dallas airport — just like most of the league’s players.

It’s a hassle she wouldn’t mind avoiding on future trips and now league commissioner Cathy Engelbert is working on a solution.

One day after Engelbert told a group of sports editors that she’s trying to find regular charter flights for all 12 WNBA teams, Clark and her new teammates embraced the move.

“I think you just have to be aware of where you are,” Clark said after Wednesday’s practice. “You travel with security, which is nice. It’s just different from college where you put your bag on the plane, hop on the plane and then you’re off. But like (here) you’re waiting at baggage claim, you’ve got to go through the normal security with everybody else. For me, it was my first time doing it. It wasn’t terrible. I just went about my business and kept my head down.”

Clark went on to score 21 points in her pro debut , a 79-76 loss.

The WNBA will use league-wide charter flights for the first time this season, the league announced Thursday, May 9. The charters will begin at the start of the regular season. “We are thrilled to announce the launch of a full charter program as soon as practical for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, a testament to the continued growth of the WNBA,” Engelbert said in a statement. (AP Photo/Adam Hunger, File)

But her star power has only fueled a debate that took center stage last season when Phoenix Suns star Brittney Griner was confronted by a man who started asking questions as she walked through an airport. The incident became so heated that the man was tackled and law enforcement was called.

League officials called the man’s actions “inappropriate” and “unfortunate.”

It spurred a leaguewide debate over player safety with some veteran stars asking that league officials do more, including charter flights. And now, with one of the most heralded rookie classes entering the league, Engelbert wants to take action even if she doesn’t have a defined timetable for when it could happen.

Fever coach Christie Sides also remembered sleeping in an airport while working with the Chicago Sky because of several delays before the flight was eventually canceled. She said the team took a 6 a.m. flight and played later that night.

For those reasons, it can’t start soon enough for those who have been around the league for years — or for Clark, who has been driving WNBA ticket sales upward after spending her last two seasons at Iowa driving a substantial increase in television ratings.

“I’m thankful at whatever point that happens, that would be great for us. It will make recovery easier, it will make travel easier,” Clark said. “It just makes life a lot easier for a lot of people, but also it’s just something a lot of people have deserved for years and years.”

Radiators fail once more: Moscow suburbs residents appeal to Putin

R esidents across the Moscow suburbs are besieged by a heating problem, for which they plead direct intervention from President Vladimir Putin. These individuals have yet to experience any semblance of home heating since winter started due to a dwindling supply of heating oil. The issue, one largely avoided by local authority communication, has left residents desperate to the point of directly appealing to the president.

While plots have been uncovered to disrupt Ukraine's infrastructure for a second consecutive winter, thus depriving civilians of heating, it seems Russians are now mired in their crisis. Irony drips from the fact that those under Putin's leadership are looking to cause turmoil in Ukraine, yet at home, they face a similar predicament.

Many dwellings within the Moscow agglomeration are presently without heat. The capital's residents are desperate, directly appealing to President Putin due to a perceived lack of alternate avenues for assistance. The absence of suitable heating functionality since winter commenced pushes them towards desperation with no relief in sight.

This seems improbable, but in Russia, it appears that anything can happen.

It remains uncertain if Vladimir Putin is actively addressing the heating crisis. Some experts suggest that Russia's heating oil reserves are depleting, which negatively affects residents' quality of life. Plagued by cold radiators and plummeting winter temperatures, these citizens have directly addressed their pleas to their head of state.

This heating crisis is happening in Elektrostal, a town approximately 71 miles from Moscow.

Ironically, Russia has constantly aimed to destroy the Ukrainian infrastructure since war broke out, deliberately trying to leave Ukrainians without heating during the harsh winters, aiming to break their strong will. It's an irony they now struggle with a domestic heating crisis, particularly near Moscow, their largest and most pivotal city.

Desperate individuals are reaching out to Vladimir Putin. They question his knowledge of the heating infrastructure conditions in the Moscow suburbs and the dire situations residents face there. Sundown brings no relief from the harsh Russian winter and without heating, their houses turn cold. With elections nearing, more and more residents find themselves reaching out directly to their president.

"Since winter's start, we've been without heating. This has been a yearly occurrence for the past three years. Despite paying for heating, we don't have enough. We implore you, help us!" - these are the desperate pleas from the heavily dressed populace dealing with the Russian winter conditions.

Experts attribute the heating oil shortage to international sanctions and surging demands for diesel fuel, pivotal to military operations. Russia now grapples with a dearth of raw materials essential for boiler and heating plant operation. As supplies dwindle, houses grow cold with little hope of any immediate corrective intervention.

It would be adequate if the war ceased, residents were prioritized, and attention accorded to their welfare.
