Alvvays Announce 2023 Australian Headline Dates

By Jules LeFevre

Toronto crew Alvvays have announced a few local headline dates around their upcoming appearance at Meredith Music Festival. The band will play three east coast shows outside of the festival – in Sydney on Tuesday, 5th December, Brisbane on Friday, 8th December, and then at the Forum in Melbourne on Tuesday, 12th December.

The shows are the band’s first in Australia since 2019, when they were here supporting their album Antisocialities . Now Alvvays are coming armed with their latest record Blue Rev – their first in five years – which came out last October.

Alvvays: ‘Many Mirrors’

Blue Rev was widely acclaimed, and Music Feeds labelled it “one of 2022’s essential guitar albums” .

“With  Blue Rev , they’ve forged something endearing and idiosyncratic, and one of 2022’s essential guitar albums,” wrote David James Young. “Nearly 10 years after ‘Archie’, the honeymoon phase is still very much in effect for Alvvays.”

“The only thing I know how to do is just put my head down and keep swinging,” singer Molly Rankin said of creating the album through the dislocation of COVID . “That’s how we’ve been from the beginning – just keeping going and pushing through whatever life throws at us. I don’t really have closure on who that person was, or where that stuff is, or what I’m really missing from all [those recordings], just hours and hours of me howling at the moon.”

Alvvays On Their 'Coveted Memories' With Aus Act That They'll Treasure Forever

As Canadian indie rock band Alvvays make their way across Australia, lead singer Molly Rankin reflects on their previous trips down under and the impact of their 2022 album, 'Blue Rev'.

More Alvvays

When Canadian indie-pop outfit Alvvays released their third LP, Blue Rev , in October of 2022, they had no idea that their world was about to change. “I didn't actually know that people would react to the album in the way that they did, and I certainly didn't expect it,” says Alvvays songwriter Molly Rankin .

But Blue Rev met with universal acclaim, was all over end-of-year lists, and even earned the band an unlikely Grammy nomination, with the jam Belinda Says getting a Best Alternative Music Performance nod at the upcoming 66th Grammy Awards.

For a band that had begun over a decade prior with “no money to even get dinner” when on tour, it felt like the culmination of years of hard work and steady growth, but also the kind of thing to remain sceptical of.

“All of that stuff is temporary and can go away at any time,” Rankin considers. “So, you have to be… not suspicious, but realistic. And not put all of your stock in that buzz.”

“So, I don’t buy into it. I am still very hard on myself and think that there's constantly room to get better. It's such a nice bonus to have people excited about the songs, especially when you're touring in a bunch of different countries. Everything else is just icing.”

Speaking to Rankin, the idea that she is hard on herself and her songwriting comes up recurringly. “I don't think anyone is harder on my output than me,” she offers. “I just feel like I'm my hardest and most vicious critic.”

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

That was a large reason why Alvvays took so long, making Blue Rev , the LP arriving five years after their 2017 LP Antisocialites . In both writing and recording, Rankin and her creative collaborator, guitarist Alec O’Hanley , pursue the new and elusive, trying to live up to grand goals.

“I never thought we’d actually finish the album,” says Rankin. “We're so hard on ourselves when we're shaping the songs and finishing them. I think that chasing a demo or the feeling of a demo, trying to elevate something beyond that, is a really big challenge for both Alec and I. Making sure that we're not just repeating the same album and the same song over again, trying to evolve, but still touch on all of the things that you love.”

Rankin describes the “filtration process” of working through ideas as “really vicious”. “I need a melody that feels new to me and feels like it's shifting or moving in this satisfying way. And if it doesn't, I just either forget it or just let it die.”

That sense of movement or shift comes from playing with classic pop structures, creating a frisson as songs shift from verses to choruses. “That can be a melodic shift, or sometimes it can just be this guttural shift,” Rankin says. “Just a feeling of elevation and feeling touched by something. Sometimes that's just a lyric. [I need] to have those different parts make you feel something.

“Of course, I don't write only for myself, but I know that if I'm okay with it, then I can just have to have faith in that. If a song gets through the demo phase and I'm feeling good about it in the final phase, it's good enough to be released.”

Rankin wonders if this characteristic of being so hard on herself —“this is kind of spiralling into therapy, maybe”— comes from her musical upbringing. She grew up playing fiddle under the mentorship of her father, John , a folk musician who led the band The Rankin Family in the ‘90s. “He was really driven and very meticulous about the way that I played the fiddle, and I played very similarly to him,” she says. “[Maybe] that's part of where that comes from, that fine-tooth combing.”

Amidst all the fine-tooth combing of structure and production, there is one element that is more mysterious, and more open to interpretation or chance: the lyrics. Rankin’s words tend to be “vague storylines” told from a perspective outside of hers. “Some of them have this really direct meaning, but others are more abstract and nebulous,” she offers.

This leaves them open to interpretation from listeners, though Rankin rolls her eyes at those whose interpretations claim to be definitive or concrete. “A lot of people think that they know what everything [means] and what's behind the stories of the songs. When, really, they are just like strange fragments of dreams and visions and little pictures and movies that I pieced together. Nothing is about a boy I met when I was 19. There’s never really been a realistic event like that in all my songs.

“A lot of people think that certain songs are about, like, the death of my father and that kind of thing. If I think about that too much, it's just baffling to me. I feel like I've been pretty clear that there isn't really much reality in all of the little stories, but that's what happens when you put something out into the world. People just make it about whatever they want it to be about. It's hard to be surprised by the authoritative opinions based on nothing that surface on the internet.”

The older a song gets, Rankin says, the more mysterious it can seem to her as she finds herself farther removed from when she wrote it. “We still play a lot of the old stuff in our sets, and sometimes we'll unearth a song we haven't played in years, and singing those lyrics feels alien to me,” she says.

Her memories are clearer when —on the event of the band’s third visit to these shores— it comes to recalling Alvvays’ first tour to Australia in 2016. There were rowdy shows in Brisbane, rough waves at the beach, and shows supporting The Jesus & Mary Chain , where Rankin would join them on stage to sing Just Like Honey .

But the band’s most treasured time came at their Sydney show on that tour, where they got Simon Holmes and Mark Temple from The Hummingbirds to join them on stage for their classic ’80s jangler Alimony , one of the first songs Alvvays ever learnt to play together as a band.

“That was just such an exciting moment for us, that they would come on stage with us, and we’d get to play that song with them,” Rankin recalls. “And they showed up with all of these really beautiful seven-inches that they pressed. Those are coveted items and coveted memories that I have and will treasure forever.”

Alvvays are currently touring across Australia. You can find tickets via the Handsome Tours and Meredith Music Festival websites.

Alvvays Announce Australia and New Zealand Tour Dates

The 13th Floor 0

Canadian whip-smart indie rock quintet, Alvvays have announced their highly anticipated return to Australia and Aotearoa this December.

The band will make their first trip Down Under since the release of their long awaited and high acclaimed third album  Blue Rev  which was declared “ one of the best records of the year ” by The Guardian and “ one of 2022’s essential guitar albums ” by Musicfeeds .

Landing in Sydney for a show at The Roundhouse, the band will stop by Brisbane’s Princess Theatre before heading south for  Meredith Music Festival and a headlining show at The Forum. They’ll then loop past Perth’s Rechabite Hall and wrap it all up at Auckland’s Powerstation.

Alvvays

The journey to Blue Rev was marked by unexpected twists and creative leaps, but the five-year wait since their last album, Antisocialites , was well worth it. The power and magic of Blue Rev stems from Alvvays’ ability to bridge ostensible binaries and fuse elements that seem antithetical in single songs—cynicism and empathy, anger and play, clatter and melody, the soft and the steely. The album’s 14 tracks explore the harmonically rich and lyrically provocative territory that Alvvays have become known for.

The band’s unorthodox recording process for Blue Rev brought their sound to new heights, producing a record that is simultaneously immediate and intricate. Collaborating with fellow Canadian Shawn Everett ( The Killers, The War On Drugs and Kacey Musgraves ), Alvvays were encouraged to embrace spontaneity by recording the album straight to tape before spending an obsessive amount of time filling in the cracks, roughing up the surfaces and mixing the results.

Blue Rev  marks Alvvays’ growth into one of their generation’s most complete and riveting rock bands. Do not miss your chance to see them live this Summer.

Australian Tour July/Aug 2019

alvvays australia tour

Handsome Tours and Triple R are excited to announce the Australian return of Toronto-based indie favourites, Alvvays . This marks their first visit to Sydney and Melbourne since the release of their acclaimed album ‘Antisocialites’. Joining them on all shows will be Sydney’s Body Type .

To write ‘Antisocialites’, vocalist and songwriter Molly Rankin traveled to Toronto Island — working in an abandoned classroom by day and sleeping a few feet from shore at night — to avoid a stifling heat wave in the city. “I carried a small PA on the ferry in a wheelbarrow,” she recalls. “Every morning I would listen to my favorite records on the beach, then I’d write melodies and record demos in the classroom.”

The resulting record details a world of ice cream truck jingles and radiophonic workshop noise, where Rankin’s shining wit is refracted through crystalline counterpoint. It went on to receive rapturous reviews worldwide, seeing Alvvays tour with The National and CHVRCHES , as well as perform at festivals including Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees, Latitude and Fuji Rock.

I saw them on Tokio Marine Hall in São Paulo, Brazil and waas my first concert ever. They're amazing, the crowd was singing in each song and the band was feeling the energy, with a big smile on the face, Molly was so charismatic and cute, i had a amazing night and i certainly believe they too.

These guys were spot-on, and the mix was so good I wanted to thank their sound guy on my way out (but he left right before I got to him in the line out the door). This is a professional outfit.

Molly was charming and warm, and Molly and Alec banter like siblings.

Although there were many high points, for me, "Forget About Life" was rapturous.

Very highly recommended.

First-time GRAMMY nominees Alvvays have today announced another run of 2024 dates.

The band is currently on their 2023 tour of Australia and New Zealand and will bring their electric live show to North American audiences again next year in a series of shows and festivals. The artist presale begins Wednesday, December 6th at 10am local time (password = PHARMACIST). The general on-sale is Friday, December 8th @ 10am local time.

Last month, Alvvays were nominated for their first ever GRAMMY for Best Alternative Performance for their iconic hit single “Belinda Says.” In a  massively competitive field the band will now compete alongside esteemed artists like The Arctic Monkeys, Paramore, and more.

The song is one of several musical highlights off the critically acclaimed Blue Rev, a record that doesn't simply reassert what's always been great about the band, but instead reimagines it. A modern indie-rock masterpiece, Blue Rev cements Alvvays as one of the greatest bands making music right now.

The Canadian indie rock quintet took to X to announce the upcoming tour in the early morning today (December 6). The lengthy tour will see them perform in 18 different venues across the States, beginning with a date in Cleveland, Ohio’s Agora Theater on April 18, and concluding in Tucson, Arizona’s Rialto Theatre on May 17.

Pre-sale tickets are now available for purchase through the band’s website using the password ‘PHARMACIST’, while general ticket sales will open on Friday, December 8 at 10AM local time through Ticketmaster .

The announcement is Alvvays’ first since receiving their first Grammy nomination , namely ‘Best Alternative Music Performance’ for ‘Belinda Says’, a standout cut from their excellent 2022 full-length album, ‘Blue Rev’ . The album received a four-star review from NME , and was featured on NME’s ‘50 Best Albums of 2022’ list .

In his review , Will Richards highlighted the holistic improvements the band made on ‘Blue Rev’, stating: “Released after half a decade away, the Canadians’ third album ‘Blue Rev’ is still identifiably Alvvays, but the hooks here are sweeter, the instrumentation brighter, the energy more palpable.”

In an interview with NME following the album’s release , band leader Molly Rankin commented on the arduous journey they took making ‘Blue Rev’ – which involved navigating COVID restrictions, their practice space flooding and Rankin’s hard drive getting stolen – stating: “The only thing I know how to do is just put my head down and keep swinging. That’s how we’ve been from the beginning – just keeping going and pushing through whatever life throws at us.”

Alvvays have spent 2023 touring in support of their third full-length album, with the most recent leg of their tour seeing them perform in Asia and Australia. In addition to their Grammy nod, the band received a nomination at the 2023 Polaris Prize for ‘Blue Rev’ , though they did not win the award.

In January, they made their debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon , performing their Grammy-nominated track, ‘Belinda Says’.

Tennis Australia sends ATP Tour warning over Saudi Arabia Masters tournament

TOPSHOT - Poland's Iga Swiatek serves against China's Qinwen Zheng during their women's singles match at the United Cup tennis tournament in Perth on January 3, 2024. In a thinly veiled warning that could portend an increasingly nasty battle between two of the most powerful entities in tennis, the owners of the Australian Open have notified the leadership of the men’s tour that they would consider any attempt to schedule a tournament in Saudi Arabia during the first week of the season as a request for a potential “breach” of an existing contract between the two organizations.

Tennis Australia sent the message last week, in a letter notifying the ATP Tour that it had decided not to bid to host the proposed event . However, the Australians also used the letter, a copy of which The Athletic has reviewed, to outline their staunch opposition to the ATP Tour’s plans. They sought to make it clear that the tour should seriously consider the consequences of its efforts to disrupt a professional tennis calendar that now kicks off entirely in Australia and New Zealand, headlined by the United Cup, a mixed-team international event that began last season and attracts some of the top players in the world.

“Tennis Australia has an existing agreement with the ATP and the WTA for the United Cup in Week 1, which is active through 2029 with options to extend,” Jayne Hrdlicka and Craig Tiley, the chair and chief executive of Tennis Australia, wrote in the letter dated April 24. “The players value the event, as does Tennis Australia.”

“We do not enter agreements lightly and neither do we take lightly being asked to breach an existing agreement.”

The letter is the latest salvo in a 10-month battle that began as a fight about the start of the season but has turned into a duel over control of the sport between the Grand Slams and the ATP and WTA tours.

The Grand Slams favor a streamlined elite tennis tour with 14 events, including the Grand Slams, that keeps in place a schedule that climaxes four times a year with their tournaments, both geographically and in terms of the court surfaces. The existing ATP and WTA tours are trying to maintain something like the status quo, only more of it, with one more big tournament and some more money, thanks to a significant investment from Saudi Arabia , which is vying to become the host of that tournament.

alvvays australia tour

The battle has dominated off-the-court conversations and turned what had, for years, been largely polite interchanges among the eight entities that oversee the professional game into a fierce, existential fight for control of the sport and the billions of dollars it produces .

It is playing out at a crucial moment for the game as it transitions from two decades of growth thanks, in large part, to stars such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, who have retired or are on the way there.

With all their careers ending in the coming years, the sport’s leaders know they need to market a new generation of stars and make it easier for fans to make sense of the hundreds of tournaments that happen each year while also meeting player demands for a schedule that does not overtax their bodies and allows them to share in the sport’s riches the way elite athletes in other realms do.

At the moment, the fight over the start of the season is the primary battleground.

Inside tennis' corridors of power: A fractured hall of mirrors where nothing is as it seems

In the letter to the ATP, Tiley and Hrdlicka, who announced in February she would step down as the chief executive of Virgin Australia Airlines, argued that maintaining the schedule is in the best interests of the health and financial wellbeing of the players and the sport . There’s also the matter of the massive financial windfall and media interest that it provides for its organization in the run-up to its signature event.

“We have worked hard to establish an Australian January as one of the most lucrative months of the year for the players,” Tiley and Hrdlicka wrote. They argued that the warm-up events to the Australian Open, including the United Cup, allow players to get into peak condition for one of the four biggest events of the year as most of them adjust to the Southern Hemisphere and a radically different time zone.

“The Australian Open cannot be moved,” they wrote, “so having an event in another geographic region — with an eight-hour time zone difference, different climactic conditions and a 15-hour flight — is clearly damaging to player preparation for a Grand Slam.”

alvvays australia tour

They added that the current format allows fans to easily digest the start of the year and suggested that starting in Saudi Arabia, with a tournament one level below a Grand Slam, would only add to fan confusion. Under that proposal, the players — and the watching tennis world — would head to Saudi Arabia, then head to Australia, then head back to the Middle East in February for existing tournaments in Doha and Dubai.

“As a sport, our goal should be to simplify the structure of the tour in the eyes of the fans, dramatically improve the fan narrative and better leverage the Grand Slams to drive viewership of the tour. All of that is compromised with an event in Week 1 — hurting our ability as a sport to better remunerate the players.”

The ATP has said little of its plans regarding the specifics of the new tournament, which is likely to begin in 2027. The request for bids did not specify the exact timing of the tournament but rather stated that it would be held during a 60-day window in January or February. The new tournament is a significant part of its plans to bring what it has said could be roughly $1billion of new investment into tennis.

Inside Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in sport

  • Why the country bought into Premier League soccer
  • Golf, F1 and cycling… why they are buying sport
  • The 2034 World Cup and what it means

The leaders of the women’s circuit, the WTA, have largely been in lockstep with the ATP in its efforts to head off the effort from the Grand Slams to create the slimmed-down premium tour, which would lessen the importance of the vast majority of ATP and WTA tournaments. However, a new men’s event in the first week that threatens the viability of the United Cup — which offers a combined prize money pot of $10million — would jeopardize one of the most lucrative events of the year for female players.

The WTA did not participate in the request for proposals for a new tournament, under which Saudi Arabia stated its interest in hosting a Masters 1000 for men and women. The owners of the top women’s tournaments would have to approve such a move, and the WTA does not see an open spot in its calendar. It does not want to ask its players to play more than they already do.

go-deeper

How to fix tennis

Three people who participated in the discussions, who have spoken on condition of anonymity to describe the private talks, said the bickering about the first week of the season has been a fight for leverage in the larger battle about whether to create a premium tour.

The ATP, with the tacit approval of the WTA, is unwilling to abandon the possibility of holding the new tournament in January until the Grand Slams promise not to devalue tour events by creating a new premium tour. Tennis Australia and the other three Grand Slams are unwilling to give up the push for the premium tour without an assurance that the ATP and WTA will not disrupt the current rhythm of the schedule.

There is an obvious compromise, the people say — holding the new Masters 1000 in February, after the Australian Open. However, with tensions still rising, the environment is not conducive to reaching a middle ground.

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN

‘40 YEARS’

 Australian Tour 2024

One of the most influential bands of their generation and beyond, The Jesus and Mary Chain mark their 40th anniversary in 2024 with a return tour to Australia in August!

From the moment the Reid brothers (Jim and William) first pressed the record button on their Portastudio in the early 1980's, the intense, sometimes brutal, often darkly romantic music they made has always felt like past, present and future smashed together, alchemising into something startling.

Consistently defying musical boundaries, blending intense melodies with raw emotion to create a mesmerising sonic experience, JAMC anthems such as Just Like Honey, April Skies and Happy When It Rains are timeless statements of artistic excellence. Shaping the post-punk landscape with a legacy that continues to inspire awe and reverence.

From their origins on the outskirts of Glasgow, The Jesus and Mary Chain have gone on to influence many of music’s greatest minds, and are consistently referenced as a chief source of inspiration for the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana . 1985’s Psychocandy is widely considered to be one of the most influential post punk records ever released.

With new album, Glasgow Eyes in hand, the duo continue to seamlessly fuse electronica and rock with as much innovation as they’ve always had. Embracing their punk roots, while maintaining their anarchic spirit.

As outsiders who shaped the very fabric of British music history, The Jesus and Mary Chain stand apart yet are one of the most influential acts of the modern era.

Jim Reid states that, "We've never fit in anywhere, and that's just fine with us. We are the party, and that's all that matters.”

Don't miss your chance to experience The Jesus and Mary Chain as they roll though your town!

Qantas agrees to pay $79 million in compensation and a fine for selling seats on canceled flights

Qantas Airways has agreed to pay $79 million in compensation and a fine for selling tickets on thousands of cancelled flights

CANBERRA, Australia — Qantas Airways agreed to pay 120 million Australian dollars ($79 million) in compensation and a fine for selling tickets on thousands of cancelled flights , the airline and Australia’s consumer watchdog said on Monday.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission sued the Sydney-based airline in the Federal Court last year. The commission alleged that Qantas engaged in false, misleading or deceptive conduct by advertising tickets for more than 8,000 flights from May 2021 through to July 2022 that had already been canceled.

Qantas agreed to settle the suit by paying a AU$100 million ($66 million) fine to the Australian government and a projected AU$20 million ($13 million) to more than 86,000 affected customers.

“Today represents another important step forward as we work towards restoring confidence in the national carrier,” Qantas chief executive Vanessa Hudson said in a statement.

“When flying resumed after the COVID shutdown, we recognize Qantas let down customers and fell short of our own standards. We know many of our customers were affected by our failure to provide cancellation notifications in a timely manner and we are sincerely sorry,” said Hudson, who replaced Alan Joyce at the airline’s helm in November last year.

A Federal Court judge has yet to accept the settlement.

ACCC chair Gina Cass-Gottlieb said Qantas’ payments of AU$225 ($149) to domestic ticket holders and AU$450 ($298) for international bookings were in addition to other remedies already provided by Qantas, including alternative flights and refunds.

“We are pleased to have secured these admissions by Qantas that it misled its customers, and its agreement that a very significant penalty is required as a result of this conduct,” Cass-Gottlieb said in a statement.

“Qantas’ conduct was egregious and unacceptable. Many consumers will have made holiday, business and travel plans after booking on a phantom flight that had been cancelled,” she added.

Qantas also admitted its misconduct continued until August last year, more than a year longer than the regulator has alleged in court, Cass-Gottlieb said.

The regulator initiated the suit a week after Qantas posted a record profit for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2023, following years of losses due to the pandemic.

Its underlying profit for 2022/23 before tax was AU$2.47 billion ($1.6 billion), compared to a AU$1.86 billion ($1.2 billion) loss in the previous year.

Qantas reported a profit of AU$1.74 billion ($1.13 billion) after taxes for the latest year.

Hannah Green defends LPGA Tour title in Los Angeles after brilliant back-nine blitz

Sport Hannah Green defends LPGA Tour title in Los Angeles after brilliant back-nine blitz

Hannah Green holds LA Championship trophy

Hannah Green has continued her love affair with Wilshire Golf Club to successfully defend her LA Championship crown with one of the most commanding displays of the year.

Australia's former major champion produced a brilliant back-nine blitz to close with a five-under-par 66 and blow away the field in the shadows of Los Angeles' iconic Hollywood hills backdrop.

With a five-under stretch in five holes, Green finished with a 12-under 272 total, three strokes clear of in-form Swede Maja Stark (68).

Green stretched her streak to 16 consecutive sub-par rounds at the course to slam the door shut on her chasers.

"It's really kind to me. I love it here," she said.

In adding to her HSBC Women's World Champions success in Singapore last month, Green joins rampant world No.1 Nelly Korda as only the second player to notch multiple LPGA Tour victories in 2024.

"To obviously already win in Singapore and then win here this week, I hope that I can get closer to my goal being in the top 10 in the world and solidify my spot in the Olympics," the Perth prodigy said.

Green will climb from world No.18 to the cusp of the top 10, as well as soar to third in the season-long points standings behind five-time winner Korda and New Zealand's Lydia Ko.

The 27-year-old also joins greats Karrie Webb (41), Jan Stephenson (16) Minjee Lee (10) and Rachel Hetherington (eight) as only the fifth Australian to win at least five times on the LPGA Tour.

After starting the day sharing the lead with compatriot Grace Kim, Green quickly established a two-shot advantage on the very first hole.

Green's birdie and Kim's bogey left Green with the outright lead, and she retained it all afternoon despite a strong challenge coming from Stark.

Runner-up to Korda at last week's Chevron Championship, the year's first major, Stark was just one shot back after making birdies on the seventh and 13th holes as Green toiled mid-round with seven straight pars.

But a chip-in birdie on the par-3 12th broke the shackles for Green, who picked up another shot on 13 to nudge two strokes clear.

"When I chipped in on 12, I kind of felt like I really snagged one there," she said.

"So I knew what I needed to do to do. I made it really easy on myself so I'm really grateful."

Stark received a huge break on the 15th when her bunker shot clattered into the pin and stopped dead for an easy birdie when a bogey looked more likely.

Green, though, more than held her nerve — she hit the go button with a spectacular eagle three on 15, followed by a fourth birdie of the day on 16.

In collecting a cheque for $US562,500 ($A858,700), the West Australian crashed through the $US5 million ($A7.6 million) career prize money earnings.

While Green rejoiced, Kim's horror weekend continued with a demoralising six-over 77 to slump to a share of 25th.

The 23-year-old had been four shots clear at the halfway point and on track to capture a second LPGA Tour title.

Instead Kim was reduced to a putting wreck, unable to fashion a single birdie all weekend and racking up nine bogeys and a double.

Despite her disappointment, classy Kim was the first to shower her triumphant playing partner with champagne on the 18th green.
