Arnold Arboretum
“There is a magnificent horticultural “sport” (genetic mutant) of the standard European beech tree ( Fagus sylvatica ) that came to the Arboretum in 1888 from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (and was probably collected in the wild in France). Instead of growing straight up to the sky, the shoots twist and turn into gyres, and the net effect is a tree that is essentially a small hemisphere.”

Radcliffe’s sunken garden
“One of my favorite places on campus when the weather is warm is the sunken garden in Radcliffe Yard. It is a beautiful, little green spot on campus where the gurgle of the fountain creates a quiet, calm atmosphere. Doing work there on a sunny day makes me feel like I’m in an oasis in the middle of the city.”

Smith Campus Center
“I especially like having coffee in the second-floor seating area at the front of the Smith Campus Center, looking out onto the plaza in front of the center, the whole diversity of Harvard Square passing in front. For me, it also brings back memories of arriving at Harvard for the first time in 1993 as a student and seeing the chess players there.”

Three Types of Video Visits
At Facility
These visits are when you go to your facility and sit at a video visit station in the lobby. Your loved one or friend will be on a video visit station in their pod.
From Computer
At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own personal computers in the comfort of their own homes. You will need the following equipment to do a video visit from home:
- A computer.
- A webcam and a microphone, or a computer with these components built in (most laptops have these built in).
- An internet browser. Internet browsers Safari 4 and higher, or Firefox 7 and higher, are strongly recommended. Using other browsers may not load the page appropriately in order to begin your visit. We are not responsible for technical problems or issues that may arise from using an unsupported browser.
- For the best visit experience you should use headphones, but they are not required.
- High speed internet (DSL or Cable) connection (dial up and satellite are not supported).
From Android Device
Video visits go mobile with our Visit Now Android app. At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own Android devices.
How to Schedule a Visit
Free video visit policy.
Free visits are a benefit for the inmate and are credited to the inmate’s account. Therefore the inmate is the only one who can book a free visit . This allows the inmate at your facility full control of whom they want to use their free visit with. There are also advanced scheduling rules that control the timeframe that a free visit can be booked. These rules vary by facility. If an inmate books a visit outside this timeframe, they will not be allowed to use a free visit.
- Book the visit with their Friends & Family.
- Suggest a visit with their Friends & Family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time they confirm the suggested time. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted.
- Confirm a suggested visit from their friends and family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time the inmate confirms the visit. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted from their free visit allowance.
The only way Friends & Family can use a free visit is by suggesting a visit with the inmate. If the inmate has a free visit available and there are no prepaid funds on the Friends & Family account at the time the inmate confirms, the free visit will be deducted from inmate’s account.

The purpose of verification is to ensure inmates are not connecting with inappropriate people on the outside. The verification process is simple and can be completed before or after creating an account.
To be verified, you can make a deposit , schedule a visit or download and complete the Telmate Verified form .

On Columbia’s Lawn, the Curtain Rises on a Day of Political Theater
At Columbia University, protesters were undeterred, and even relaxed, as a phalanx of congressional leaders showed up and told them to “stop the nonsense.”

At Columbia University’s campus on Wednesday, the main quad looked like a stage set for confrontation.
On one end stood Butler Library, a neoclassical colonnaded structure. At its base, a brightly tented encampment of more than 100 pro-Palestinian demonstrators persisted for the sixth straight day after the police had swept away an earlier village and arrested its student inhabitants.
On the other end stood Low Library, similarly grand and colonnaded. A crush of reporters had gathered on its stairs because the speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, was due to speak after meeting with Jewish students. In the morning, Mr. Johnson had called for the resignation of Columbia’s embattled president, Nemat Shafik, who he said had failed to protect the Jewish students from antisemitic attacks.
But after Columbia on Tuesday night backed off a threat to call in the police to dismantle the tents, the mood in the encampment had relaxed. Students picnicked on Dunkin’ Donuts and Popeyes.
Columbia had said it would continue negotiating with the protesters, who are demanding that it divest from companies with financial ties to Israel. At a news conference near the encampment, a student protest leader, Khymani James, declared, “This is a win for us.”
There was a counterprotest area of sorts near the encampment. On one side of a low stone wall, an Israeli flag was hanging, and the wall was covered with posters of the hostages taken by Hamas. But there were only a few people there. One of them, Jonathan Swill, sat on the sidewalk scrolling through Psalms on his phone and praying.
Mr. Swill, 27, a graduate student in biomedical engineering, seemed unimpressed that Mr. Johnson was on his way.
“I couldn’t care less about him, I mean, it’s a political stunt,” he said, adding, “I’ve had to deal with this for six months, and he’s decided now’s the time?” Mr. Swill, who said he had friends who were killed at the Nova festival in Israel on Oct. 7, returned to his Psalms.
On the encampment side of the fence, Ben Garber, an alumnus from the class of 2018, said he did not have much use for Mr. Johnson either.
“Politicians want to come and have their photo taken,” he said. “It’s an election year.”
As the sun began to dip toward the west, a few stray raindrops fell, and the sky threatened to rainbow. Mr. Johnson appeared on the steps of Low. Most of the encampment dwellers stayed in the encampment and continued to go about their quiet afternoon. But hundreds of people crowded the steps, craning for a view. Many of them booed, but then the crowd quieted to try to hear what he had to say.
They couldn’t quite manage it. “We can’t hear you!” they began chanting.
Mr. Johnson, flanked by fellow Republican lawmakers, delivered his message. “The madness has to stop,” he said. He said Jewish students had told him of “heinous acts of bigotry” they had experienced because of their faith. His advice for the people in the encampment: “Go back to class and stop the nonsense.”
Cells of protesters in the audience got off a few rounds of “Free Palestine / Free, free Palestine” and “Disclose / Divest / We will not stop / We will not rest.”
But then the politicians withdrew, and so did the protesters. The drizzle stopped, sun poured down on the quad and the crowd dispersed slowly and peacefully.

2025 4-Star Guard to Potentially Visit Michigan State
Jerry Easter, a class of 2025 4-star guard from La Lumiere School, is considering visiting Michigan State.
- Author: Aidan Champion
In this story:
Michigan State men's basketball and Coach Tom Izzo continue to make progress in the 2025 recruiting class.
According to Jamie Shaw of On3, 2025 four-star guard Jerry Easter is considering a visit to Michigan State.
Easter, a 6-foot-4 combo guard who will be entering his senior year at La Lumiere School/IN, is the No. 28 player in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking.
Per Shaw, "Easter averaged 18.2 points and 5.9 rebounds playing on Nike's EYBL Scholastic Circuit this high school season."
According to 247Sports, Easter has nearly 40 offers, including Michigan State's fellow Big Ten rivals (current and soon-to-be) Illinois, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Michigan, and Washington.
Easter told Shaw he has already officially visited Oregon and Georgia Tech and is "going to look at visits to Ohio State and Michigan State next school year."
“It’s Coach (Tom) Izzo for me," Shaw said of his interest in the Spartans . "Every time I go there for an unofficial visit, he is just fun to be around. He has so much energy. I went to a couple of games and he just brings a lot of energy on and off the court, I like that about him. I like how he coached AJ Hoggard and Tyson Walker. Coach Izzo is a legendary coach. I’m definitely considering Michigan State as well, they have a high profile and a great coaching staff.”
That's some notable praise for the legendary Spartans coach.
Understandably, the Spartans don't have any 2025 commits yet, but they have some great talent coming from the class of 2024.
Jase Richardson, their top 2024 recruit and 247Sports' No. 4 combo guard in the country, is the son of Michigan State basketball legend Jason Richardson. Next is four-star shooting guard Kur Teng and three-star power forward Jesse McCulloch.
Izzo will have his hands full with the competition surrounding Easter's recruitment, but if development is what is catching the young guard's eye, Izzo is his guy. Hoggard and Walker are only two of some of Michigan State's best guards in recent seasons, and there could even be more before Easter moves on to the college level.
