Keep comfort in mind when shopping around. "For women with a larger bust, that might mean an underwire bra that provides greater support," says Bare Necessities bra fit expert Tracy Freno. "However, many prefer to wear a wire-free bra that they won't feel as restricted in."

As Cohen notes, soft, stretchy, tagless designs are ideal. Thick straps and extra coverage around the sides and back can also help prevent a bra from digging into your skin. Before heading on your trip, try the bra on and wear it for a few hours to make sure it doesn't poke, rub, or chafe.

Consider versatility

Versatility is also crucial. Look for a bra you can wear with numerous outfits and shirt styles — think T-shirts, V-necks, sweaters, form-fitting shirts, and low-cut tops. It's also helpful to have straps that not only adjust but also can be removed or worn different ways, like criss-crossed to hide underneath a racerback shirt.

Additionally, moisture-wicking, odor-resistant fabrics will allow you to wear the bra multiple days on your trip without washing it. In some cases, one bra might be enough. Or you could wear one on travel days and pack another in your suitcase.

When choosing a bra for travel, look for comfort features. This could be soft, stretchy fabrics, sweat-wicking materials, breathable mesh panels, thick straps, or an all-around lightweight design. You might opt for a wire-free pullover style (like a bralette) or something slightly more supportive but still comfy, such as a wireless shaping bra with lightly lined cups.

• Budget : Obviously, you shouldn’t spend more than you can afford, so shopping around and sticking to your budget is important.
• Colour options: Do you wear light-colored clothes more often? If you are someone who prefers to wear darker colors, you need a black or navy blue option so the light color underneath won’t show through your outfit. In that case, you need a nude or white colored bra.
• Straps: What kind of straps does the bra have? Does it have thick straps or thin ones? This is a personal preference you need to consider when purchasing.

Hey traveler, while you’re here join my   friends list   to get all the perks I offer at Travel is Life.

Last year I connected with Dr. Annie Holder, creator of The Travel Bra , and we ran a giveaway and a promotion together on this site. While I'm no expert on bras (I'm a dude incase you didn't know), I am interested in new and revolutionary products in the travel space, and so I was inspired by Dr. Annie to research the best bras for travelers to see what else was out there. I thought about asking one of my female writer to tackle this piece, but I'm fearless! Instead of playing my ‘guy card' on this one, I buckled down and did the research myself, from a completely outside perspective, to see what female travelers had to say on this topic. And here's what I found.

What makes a good travel bra?

Since I have no personal experience to answer this question, I looked to the experts. Here's what they had to say about choosing the best travel bra.

Jene' Luciani recommends:

• The Genie Bra as a t-shirt bra that can double as a sports bra.
• Champion Women's Double Dry Distance Underwire Sports Bra for great support during high impact activities
• Genie Women's Cami-Shaper for women who like to go bra-less

Finding the perfect fitting bra is apparently such a complicated task for women that she wrote an entire book on the subject called The Bra Book: An Intimate Guide to Finding the Right Bra, Shapewear, Swimsuit, and More!

Brooke Schoenman recommends:

The Brace Bar Kit

The Brace Bar kit is a rigid support system to help stabilize your Bow Buddy. While the Brace Bar kit comes standard with the Bow Buddy Max, it is not included with the Original and must be ordered separately.

Although the Brace Bar kit is not imperative to a happy Bow Buddy, we do recommend them. Installing brace bars will require some drilling into your trailer.

Brace Bars Installation Guide – 2023

• KIT INCLUDES
• TOOLS NEEDED
• INSTRUCTIONS

• 2 Deck Hinges • 4 Bow Ends • 4 Pop Rivets, #64 Aluminum • 4 – 8 x ½ Truss Screws • 2 Quick Release Pins w/Lanyard • 2 Brace Bars (7/8 aluminum tubing)

• 1 Pop Rivet Gun • 1 Pipe Cutter • 1 #30 9/64 Drill Bit • 1 – 3/16 Drill Bit • 1 Hand Drill • Safety Glasses

1) Set a bow end in each end of the brace bars (Do not secure yet). Fasten one end to each side of the bow buddy and holding the deck hinges in place put the other end of the brace bars to the desired position. Be sure the trailer jack is cleared. If necessary, you may cut the brace bars to the desired length.

2) Before you drill and place the screws in the brace bars , make sure bow ends are lined up properly. Drill through the brace bar and the bow end (where the x is marked in the picture) with a #30 or 9/64 drill bit and place the truss screws to secure the bow end in place.

3) Place the deck hinges to the desired location by drilling the holes according to the deck hinge with a 3/16 drill bit. Be sure the deck hinges will line up with the bow ends that connect them. Before securing the deck hinge onto the trailer, connect one quick release tab to each deck hinge by placing the metal tab between the nylon deck hinge and the trailer beam. You can use either of the two drilled holes for this, and pop rivet into place. The pop rivet will secure the quick release pin tab and deck hinge to the trailer.

Placing Brace Bars For Your Bow Buddy

• 2 Deck Hinges • 4 Bow Ends • 4 Pop Rivets, #64 Aluminum • 4 – 8 x ½ Truss Screws • 2 Quick Release Pins w/Lanyard • 2 Brace Bars

• 1 Pop Rivet Gun • 1 Pipe Cutter • 1 #30 9/64 Drill Bit • 1 – 3/16 Drill Bit • 1 Hand Drill

1) Set a bow end in each end of the brace bars (do not secure yet). Of course you can stick to your regular fashionable bras, but I prefer some sporty support when I’m on my feet all day. Not to mention that if you’re traveling for any length of time, you’ll want to make sure you get as much use as possible from every item on  your packing list .

Remember, you’ll have to wear this bra when you’re sweaty, hot and clammy. You may have to wear it several days in a row. Conditions may be far from ideal.

What you should look for in the best bra for travel

Every travel bra is different but they all have common characteristics – keep these in mind as you make your choice.

Here’s what I look for:

• sturdiness:  if you’re packing light you’ll be wearing it a lot, and that means something that makes the grade 
• cup   size:  remember, your rib cage may be narrow and your breasts large, or vice versa so make sure  both  measurements fit
• support:  you’ll be walking a lot, sometimes quickly, and you don’t want to be bouncing all over the place
• suitable:  think of your activities – a more sporty bra for sightseeing and sports but if you’re going glam at night, a convertible bra is a must (if you can pull this off, that is!)
• comfortable straps:  nothing too thin that bites into your shoulder or collarbone
• whether it snaps in the back or slips on over your head – many of us have preferences! If you like the ones that snap on, make sure those  hooks are strong  so your bra stays put!
• smoothness:  for bras with hooks, make sure they’re well-covered and off your skin.
• anti-microbial  properties make your bras more suitable for travel
• wicking materials  will help keep you dry longer – meaning you have to wash your bras less often
• color : you want your travel bras to be  neutral and invisible  (I prefer skin or nude colors that work well under any color top)

I personally can’t travel without a sports bra but I’m on the larger side. If you’re slim with less weight to carry, you may be just fine traveling with your everyday bras.

Here are just a few of the travel sports bras I’ve either tried myself or am planning to buy because other women travelers are raving about them.

The Travel Bra Review

The Travel Bra is basically a travel bra with pockets. It’s designed by travelers for travelers and combines a comfortable undergarment with some serious safety features – I know this because I’ve tried it myself. Other than a  standard money belt , it’s the most discreet of hiding places for your valuables.

NOTE: That said, you shouldn’t be delving into any undercover money belts during the day: you should keep a small amount of cash in an accessible place, such as your zipped or hidden pocket or  travel bag , as long as it’s an amount you’re prepared to lose. In the unlikely eventuality you should get mugged or pickpocketed, handing over your “day stash” should satisfy most petty thieves, for whom speed is essential. The rest of your money will stay safe and absolutely out of sight.

This travel bra also has a breathable back mesh, making it even more comfortable. Its natural fibers and lack of wires and hard metallic pieces make it soft and comfortable, especially for the long haul. While I don’t often recommend sleeping in a bra, this one is a bit different, because you can also use it as a security item – particularly useful in dorms or on long train or bus rides.

How to keep your bras in good shape when traveling – should you use a bra holder for travel

I like to keep it simple – I don’t use any fancy bra travel case, not even for my best travel bras

First, I tend to travel with a quick-drying sports bra and a “city-type travel bra”, like an ExOfficio modern travel bra.

The sports bra is easy to fold because it is thin and flat, but bras with cups are a little harder and smash or crumple easily, which is why some women like to use a  travel bra case  (this one can carry both your bras and your underwear).

If I need extra protection or some kind of travel bra organizer, I use  packing cubes . I stuff the bra cups with socks or underwear and  voilà .

A final word: don’t wait until your trip to wear your new bra! Just like shoes, you don’t want to discover a difficult fit once you’re in a foreign country (where they may not have your size).

How many days in a row should you wear a bra?

As you can probably guess, the answer here is “it depends”.

When you travel, you’ll have fewer bras than you have at home and not as many opportunities to wash them, so you’ll inevitably have to wear them longer than you would at home (hence the importance of a quick dry travel bra).

If you’re wearing your bra under normal circumstances, for example everyday sightseeing in temperate weather, you can easily wear your bra twice or three times – just don’t wear them several days in a row and alternate, to give the elastic a chance to bounce back.

If it’s very hot outside and you’re sweating all day, you may only be able to wear your bra once before washing it.

How to Protect the Front of a Boat from Rocks While Towing

Boating can be an incredibly exciting and fun thing for the entire family. Whether you are taking it slow and fishing or speeding across the lake so you can water ski or tube, there’s something for everyone to do. You even have the option of dropping anchor and letting the waves blissfully rock you to sleep as you soak in the sun.

Since a boat can be such a large investment, you want to make sure you are taking care of it properly. When transporting it from one destination to another, damage can occur—especially when rocks are thrown and hit the front of your boat.

You have several options when it comes to protecting your boat from rocks while towing, including using good driving practices and/or adding accessories or equipment to your vehicle or your boat . Using more than one method can further reduce damage that might occur from rocks when towing your boat.

To protect your boat while you are towing, follow the tips listed below:

When towing your boat, it’s imperative that you have the right vehicle. You need to make sure the truck or SUV has enough engine power to get the equipment from one place to another. The size and weight of your boat will determine which size vehicle you need. If your vehicle can’t handle the added weight, this could lead to a blown engine or other damage.

In addition to having a vehicle that is capable of towing your boat , you also need to make sure it can handle different types of terrain. There are many places where boat ramps are made from gravel or other natural elements. In some cases, getting to these places requires getting off the paved road. Having a truck or SUV that can handle different terrains will ensure you and your family get to a place where you can have fun.

Not only does your vehicle need to be able to make it over the different types of terrain, but you need to ensure that your tires don’t throw rocks or other elements that can hit and damage the front of your boat. Some of the best ways to do this is to consider the road conditions, speed limit and driving distance:

• Consider Road Conditions As you can imagine, driving on a gravel road with a lot of rocks will increase your chances of them hitting the front of your boat and causing damage. This shouldn’t deter you from traveling down these roads, as they are sometimes the only way to get to a really great boating spot. However, you need to be aware of how your drive.
• Obey Speed Limits Slowing down to prevent your tires from throwing rocks is a good idea. It can be tempting to fly down these roads, especially when you’re itching to get onto the water, but being patient will keep your boat in good condition and damage-free. Slowing down will not only keep rocks from hitting the front of your boat, but it can also keep you from sliding off the road. If any of the tires on your vehicle or the boat trailer lose traction on loose gravel, this can pull you into a ditch, causing a lot more damage than a few rocks hitting your boat.
• Minimize Driving Distance In addition to the type of road you have to drive on to get to your destination, you also need to be aware of how long it will take you to get there. The longer the distance, the more chances you have of rocks hitting the front of your boat. Again, this shouldn’t deter you from going to a place that you want to check out, but it will require some forethought and planning to reduce the chances of damage. If possible, check road conditions before heading out so that you know what to expect. While on the road, make sure to go the speed limit or even a bit slower to keep your boat safe.

To protect your boat from rock damage, there are some equipment and accessories you can add to your vehicle and to the boat. These include mud flaps, trailer hitch shields, a RockGard, and a bow cover.

Mud flaps can be helpful in protecting your boat from rock damage, as well as keeping other debris from hitting it and getting it dirty. These are often an affordable and easy way to keep your boat protected from rocks.

You have a lot of options these days when it comes to mud flaps. They are available in two main types – they can be permanently installed behind your rear weals or as a removable system that are taken off your vehicle when they’re not needed. The removable type improve fuel efficiency by reducing wind drag when not installed.

I use the Rock Tamers to protect my boat. These mudflaps are large – which protects my boat, and removable – which helps with gas mileage and noise when I’m not towing my boat. They are available in a wide range of sizes, and their adjustable width makes them very adaptable to fit most vehicles.

One feature I really like is that the Rock Tamers can fit over the frame of a ball hitch. This is ideal for boat trailers because it keeps your hitch free. These flaps provide a great level of protection for your trailer and are easy to remove.

Rock Tamers is just one example of the great mudflaps that are available, however, there are plenty of cheaper ones if you like. For example, these Tow Tuff Universal Mud Flaps are easy to install and are effective at preventing vehicle damage.

Trailer hitch shields are another way to reduce the number of rocks that may hit your boat and cause damage.

They function in much the same way as mud flaps, but these are connected to your trailer hitch. They can vary in size depending on the type of hitch you have, but the goal is to create a surface for rocks to hit before hitting your boat.

If you decide to get a RockGARD, you have several different options to choose from. One of these includes a net-like accessory that attaches to the trailer to protect your boat from rocks. The RockGARD extends beyond the front of your boat to offer more protection.

The other option you have when it comes to a RockGARD is an extended mud flap that affixed to your back bumper. This creates a larger area to stop more rocks from getting through and hitting the front of your boat.

There is also a BellyGARD, which is custom built to fit your trailer. This affixes to your trailer frame to keep rocks from damaging your boat as you drive down the road.

If you don’t want to affix or attach any accessory to your vehicle or trailer, then you have the option of getting a bow cover, also know as a bow bra. These are usually clear plastic covers that stick directly onto the boat . In most cases, you won’t even know it’s there, but it will keep your boat protected from rocks.

These tend to be tailor made for your boat so it’s not something I’ve explored in great detail, however, check out Enduro products .

If you find that you have some damage on your boat caused by rocks, it may be possible to fix them. First, you’ll need to determine what type of hull you have. Repairs will vary for boats made from fiberglass or aluminum.

When it comes to repairing fiberglass, if you have deep gouges or holes from rocks, you’ll need to use a resin or filler to fix them. It is advised you use an epoxy resin/filler because they adhere better than polyester products.

When repairing the gel coat on a fiberglass boat, you should be able to get a kit from the dealer where you bought your boat, in-store or online. If you get the kit from the dealer, they should be able to match the paint color. If not, there may be an option to add pigments to get it to match.

You’ll need to smooth the edges around the rock damage using a rotary grinder. You’ll also need to remove any old sealant, and then you can clean the area with acetone.

Place 2-inch wide masking or painter’s tape around the area that needs repaired. Leave yourself some space around the edge, about one-sixteenth of an inch. Once that is in place, once again clean the area with acetone.

After the area has been taped, you can then mix up the gelcoat. Make sure to add the right hardener for the type of gel you are working with. Mix thoroughly to ensure that it will cure properly. Using a putty knife, you will then apply the gelcoat over the area that needs repaired. You have about 10 to 15 minutes before the gel hardens.

Make sure to fill the hole slightly higher than the surrounding area. This will give you the surface you need to sand it down, as well as a little leeway to ensure that you have completely filled the hole. If you don’t plan on sanding, you can make the gel level with the surface of the hull.

When you have filled the damage, you will then spray it down with a PVA curing agent. If you left part of it raised, you can then wet-sand the cured gelcoat with 320-grit wet/dry sandpaper. Keep the sanding to the damaged area, as you don’t want to scratch the rest of your boat. Continue sanding until the area is level with the rest of the hull.

Protecting your boat from damage while you’re hauling it back and forth is pretty simple. Drive slowly and safely. This will keep bouncing rocks and flying debris to a minimum. You can install devices on your vehicle such as mud flaps, boat shields, and other barriers and shields. If a rock manages to slip past your defenses, you can still restore your boat’s appearance by repairing the hull. Take some precautions to protect your boat while driving  and think about buying some of the products mentioned above. They can go a long way to preventing damage and maintaining the value of your boat.

Independent Travel to Moscow and St. Petersburg

My wife and I have traveled independently to many European countries and, after reading many of the comments in this forum, feel like we may be able to do so in Moscow and St. Petersburg as well, although we feel somewhat less comfortable than the other countries where we have traveled in Europe.

My biggest question is how much we will miss by visiting the main sites without a tour guide. In the other European countries we have visited on our own we have been comfortable and satisfied with the level of knowledge we have gained by studying and visiting on our own, although we believe a tour guide or tour company in any country would normally be able to provide greater insight than visiting a site on our own, but about in Moscow and St. Petersburg?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Unless you speak at least some Russian and read the alphabet it would be difficult without a guide. Very few signs in English especially in Moscow. Also not too many people speak English there.

I visited St Petersburg last Autumn for a protracted period , and did not find it anymore daunting than any other European city . As Ilja says , learning the Cyrillic alphabet is a big plus . I also found that it was fairly easy to grasp . It will , among other things , enable you to read signs with relative ease . I would answer the main part or your question ( about tour guides ) thus - I am not enamored of tour guides or tours. While I only use a tour under duress ( A sites rules prohibiting an independent visit - ie Glasgow School of Art , Municipal House in Prague , etc ) . Doing your own preparation and homework is the best way , in my opinion . My wife and I ventured through St Petersburg with nary a concern ,and made two day trips outside of the central district ( one was twenty five miles away , and no English speakers in sight ) Figuring out the logistical details , did not present any difficulties . While I never use tours , I am an inveterate eavesdropper , have done so many times , and find , that on balance , the information that they impart is fairly elementary . If you want greater detail , they are unlikely to supply it . I also prefer to go at my own pace , not being rushed and being able to dwell on things that most other visitors barely give a passing glance . If you are interested , let me know . I would be happy to provide you with information that will enable you to travel independently

I would be very interested in learning more about your experience in Russia and receiving any additional information you can provide on independent travel there, starting perhaps with obtaining the visa.

I am not opposed to hiring a private or small group guide for a specific site or for a day trip outside St Petersburg and Moscow, but, like you said, I much prefer the freedom of staying at places as long or short as I want and seeing the sites that interest me most. For example, neither my wife nor I are big into shopping, yet most tour itineraries leave afternoon time for just that. Not interested!

Please provide whatever you may feel would be helpful for us.

Having always traveled independently, we thought we could do a better job than any tour. How misguided (pun intended) we were. Now that we have had the experience of having someone native to the area walk us around and explain things through a personal perspective we realize how much we missed. For St. Petersburg I highly recommend http://www.peterswalk.com/tours.html . This is not a traditional guided tour, but an opportunity to receive some orientation to the area as well as insight into the "Russian soul". I think if you did this upon arrival the rest of your time would be much more meaningful. We really liked the http://www.pushka-inn.com . The location is superb (just around the corner from the Hermitage square), the rooms lovely, the included breakfast at the restaurant next door ample and overall an excellent value. We used this company to get our visa: https://www.passportvisasexpress.com/site/san_francisco_customer_service Note that it costs about the same for a 3-year visa as a one-year, and you never know if you might want to return within that more extended window of time. It is not cheap, so factor that into your planning.

If you like traveling without a guide in other countries and find this satisfying, the same will be true in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Of course it's not either/or - you can certainly take a guided walk or boat tour, for instance.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of learning Cyrillic if you're going on your own. The book I used was Teach Yourself Beginner's Russian Script, which was great. Russia is indeed a bit more "foreign" than say, Italy. However, in Moscow and St. Petersburg, I found enough English to be able to get by. Many restaurants had English menus and/or English speaking staff, for instance. This was most emphatically not true in Vladimir and Suzdal (two cities in the Golden Ring outside Moscow). I went with my sister, a Russian speaker, and if she hadn't been there, I would have been in big trouble. So, if you want to see places outside these two big cities, use a guided tour (even if just for that part). Also, Moscow and St. Petersburg are huge cities. Coming from New York, I wasn't intimidated, but those not used to a megacity may not be so cavalier (even I found them overwhelming at times, especially Moscow).

I found both Lonely Planet and Rough Guide to be helpful, and both to have various errors. Look at both, buy whichever one has a more recent edition, and then be prepared to have to discard some of the advice therein. Also, these places change more quickly than places in Western Europe. Be very careful of outdated advice. For instance, I was there in 2001 and 2010, so I won't give you any specifics on getting a visa - that changes constantly.

Just as a teaser, two things I saw and loved that I doubt would be included in any escorted tour are the Gorky House in Moscow (an Art Nouveau wonder) and the Sheremyetov Palace in St. Petersburg (it's now a museum of musical instruments, and the decor is amazing, particularly in the Etruscan Room).

This is about you and not about Petersburg. Do you like guided tours? We don't and didn't find that a guide added to our experience in China where we did hire private guides mostly for the logistics; it was easy to have someone drive us places. But once at a site, we didn't need the guide. I felt the same way about our 9 nights in Petersburg. We did hire a guide for the trip to the Catherine Palace again for the ease of logistics for us Olds. Having someone pick us up at the apartment and get us in without line ups and shepherd us through the palace steering clear of the tour groups was lovely. But we didn't need commentary because we can read and prepare.

You certainly don't need a guide for the Hermitage (we spent 4 days there), the Russian Museum, the Kazan Cathedral or Church on Spilled Blood or the Faberge Museum. We enjoyed a number of self guided walking tours including a couple from Rick Steves guidebooks. We took the canal cruise suggested by RS that had an English commentator. I would not take one without that as you will be totally clueless. The commentator was not all that good but at least we had some idea what we were seeing. So for people like us who like to do our own thing and can read a guidebook and don't particularly like to be led about, a tour is not needed. If you enjoy tour groups, then go for it. Petersburg is easy to negotiate. It helps if you can read the cyrillic alphabet and it is also useful to have the google translate ap on your phone. We found ourselves translating packages in grocery stores with it and the occasional museum sign or menu. I have one food I need to avoid and so it was handy to have the translator to talk with waiters (I could either show them the sentence, or play it for them or play it to myself and then repeat it to the waiter -- that all worked well)

Dear Russ, I cannot help you with Moscow, but about four years ago, my husband and I went to St Petersburg on our own. But, we did use a private guide for 4 half days. We both feel that our guide absolutely made our trip (we stayed 6 or 7 nights). We used a company owned by Tatyana Chiurikova, www.tour-stpetersburg.com I cannot say enough good things about her and our experience. I emailed her and we worked out a schedule/ sights that was tailored to our interests. She also offered some recommendations, which we took. The guide will meet you at your hotel. And frequently, at certain places, with the guide, we were able to skip the long entrance lines. We had an half day driving tour of the city (car, driver, & guide). You are taken to & go in places such as Peter & Paul Fortress, some of the cathedrals, etc. We had a half day with the guide at the Hermitage which ensured that we would see the major sights there. And, of course, you can stay after your guide leaves or return another day. Also, we had the guide for Peterhof (a must & go by boat) and Catherine's Palace. I hope that you will go to the website. As I said, our guide made our trip. I am positive that we would have missed quite a bit on our own everyday. And I'm sure we would have wasted a lot of time trying to get to various place.This was the best of both worlds, a guide where needed and plenty of time on our own. I am curious about the lines as we encountered no lines on our trip -- but it was in September. We got tickets for the Hermitage at machines and skipped those lines and our guide for the Catherine Palace which was our only guided experience (as noted before, chosen for the logistics of getting there) had arranged tickets and we didn't have a line, but then we also didn't see lines. We did not find lines at any other site.

Both Moscow and St Petersburg I've done on my own, that is together with the Dear Partner. I can't remember any problem getting where we wanted to go. The Metro systems are well signed, and with a little exercise and patience you can recognize the station names. With a good map and a good guide - we had the Rough Guides - that part of the logistics is solved. The language is a major problem, but the usual tricks of pointing, looking helpless, and making a joke of it all do wonders. I would hate to be led by a guide, but for others it is a comfortable thought.

We also did both cities on our own. I found the DK Eyewitness guide for Moscow has the best map. I used the one from our library (kept the book at home). Took the smaller RS book for St. Petersburg ( his book on northern cities). His map and restaurant ideas were all good. We also downloaded the Google maps in our Android Samsung tablets/phones for both cities and then could get directions to any place we typed in. The blue ball guided us everywhere. I'm sure we missed somethings by not having a guide, but we just enjoy walking around and getting a sense of a place. If you like art, The Hermitage is great. We went 3 times and still missed alot. In St. Peterburg we stayed at the 3 Mosta which we loved (quite and not far from the Church of Spilled Blood.) We also loved the Georgian food in both cities. There's a great Georgian restaurant near the 3 Mosta hotel. We're now in Belarus- very scenic. Enjoy your trip!!

Moscow River

Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south. 

Bridges in Moscow

Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.

• Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge –  Great Stone Bridge –  is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
• Patriarshy Bridge  is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
• Borodinsky Bridge,  erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
• Bagration Bridge  one of the  pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
• Krymsky Bridge  used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th  century.

Embankments of Moscow

Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.

You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from  Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.

• Pushkinkaya embankment  is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
• Vorobyevskaya embankment  is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
• Embankment in Kolomenskoye  Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
• Taras Shevchenko embankment  is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
• Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.

Different epochs

Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.

Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park

Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.

Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location –  here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.

Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.

Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!

Monasteries and temples

• Novospassky Monastery
• Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
• Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
• Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
• Cathedral of Christ the Savior
• The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
• The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
• Novodevichy Convent
• The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
• St. Andrew’s church  (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
• St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.
