The tour was great, Reign was knowledgeable about the wines and the wineries and the folks at the Wineries were very helpful and informative. We wrapped up our tour with a lovely gathering at the last venue, where Cheers had organized a venue and fantastic Charcuterie spread. Everyone had a great time and all arrived home safely. The Kelowna Wine Routes offer a unique and exciting opportunity for wine enthusiasts to explore the diverse offerings of the Okanagan Valley. As one of the premier wine producing regions in the world, the Okanagan boasts over 200 wineries and acres of high-quality vineyards. Whether you prefer red or white, sweet or dry, there is something for every palette, from large, established wineries to small, family-run farms. Join us as we discover the best of the Kelowna Wine Routes.

Within these offerings, there are 6 wine routes within driving distance of Kelowna, including two in Kelowna itself, one just North of here in Lake Country, one across the bridge in West Kelowna and two wine routes just 30 to 40 minutes south in Summerland and Naramata. For the first 4 wine routes, pick up a copy of Tourism Kelowna’s Wine Trails brochure for great information on winery opening and closing times, as well as the type of facilities available at each.

The Kelowna Fab Five on the South East Bench Charming, intimate, funky and fun – the perfect words to describe the 4 boutique wineries along the FabFive Wine Trail . “Five miles of grape fun” await you. Situated in the rolling hills of East Kelowna, the FabFive consists of House of Rose Winery, Camelot, The View and Spierhead. Within five miles of each other, they are an alluring group of family owned and operated wineries that highlight what the Kelowna area has to offer in terms of wine and hospitality. A knight in shining armour, a twenty-foot high rose and a sexy red shoe are just a few discoveries you will make along the way. It’s a truly unforgettable afternoon of wine tasting on Kelowna’s doorstep. All offer small bites, House of Rose has a beautiful picnic area where you can bring your own food as well. Lakeshore Kelowna Wine Route Discover the heritage of the Okanagan’s oldest vineyards and wineries along the Lakeshore Wine Route . Featuring a terroir-driven line of wines made from Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay grapes, there are five wineries along this route: Tantalus, Summerhill Organic Winery, St Hubertus and Oak Bay Winery, Cedar Creek and Sperling. Gorgeous vineyard views overlooking Lake Okanagan and the city await you on the way. The above two tours can be done one after the other. Or, they can be extended to add Sandhill Winery (one of the oldest wineries in BC, located in downtown Kelowna).

Lake Country Scenic Sip The Scenic Sip wineries are located in North Kelowna by the airport and further north into Lake Country. With a diversity of microclimates, many vineyards are positioned on benches of land overlooking Okanagan Lake. This means some spectacular views both at the wineries and driving along the way. The area is mostly planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling grapes. Wineries found here include: Ancient Hills, Arrowleaf, Blind Tiger, Ex Nihilo, Gray Monk, Intrigue and 50th Parallel. West Kelowna Wine Tour Just across the lake, you’ll find the town of West Kelowna, home to 13 wineries. The Westside Wine Trail includes some of the oldest and established vineyards and wineries in the Okanagan Valley. Many of them are bunched around Mount Boucherie, an extinct volcano with rich volcanic soil. Rolling hills of vineyards, scenic lake views and leisurely rural roads provide an idyllic backdrop for discovering local flavours one sip at a time. Kelowna is the second most northern Okanagan wine region. The name translated from the Okanagan native language means “Grizzly Bear”. An eclectic 32 wineries reside within the 3rd biggest metropolitan area in BC. It is no wonder this city is growing at alarming speed. It all started here when the first vines were planted in 1859 by Father Pandosy. BC’s oldest winery ‘Calona Vineyard’ was established here in 1932 and can still be visited in downtown Kelowna. It's now owned by the Andrew Peller Group and occupies the same building as Sandhill Wines.

Downtown wine route.

Historically downtown Kelowna industrial area was fruit packing and processing center. In this region, where agricultural products were shipped, the railroad arrived. The first winery was founded in 1932, right in the middle of it all, and its name is Calona wines. They used local fruit and grapes to make wine. It is a part of a sizable complex that also contains Sandhill Wines and Wayne Gretzke Estate Okanagan and is now known as Calona Vineyards. It is a chic tasting room at an urban winery that is close to many hotels and B&Bs. The waterfront and shopping in downtown Kelowna make this a wonderful addition to your tour.

North of the city from the airport to the city of Lake Country, is also included on the Kelowna Wine Routes map. From downtown Kelowna, the drive takes about 30 minutes. For a tour in this region, Red Dog Wine Tours will pick up private tour groups in Kelowna. The region produces unrivalled Pinot wines and stunning scenery.

East Kelowna Wineries

A large region near the Kelowna city centre is known as South and East Kelowna. There are numerous small wineries scattered throughout the apple orchards and other agricultural areas. South of Mission Creek, a sizable plateau was created by ice age melting. The wineries’ winemaking and presentation techniques are distinctive and inventive. Make use of the east Kelowna wineries map to navigate the confusing network of roads in this picturesque region.

West Kelowna wine tour map

Around half of the wineries on this map of the Okanagan wine route are in West Kelowna. Just across the bridge in West Kelowna is where the route officially begins. The most popular route for visitors to Kelowna is this one because it is convenient to the city centre. Views of vineyards sloping down toward Okanagan Lake can be seen from most wineries. There are both large and small wineries, and one is even directly on the beach.

Lakeshore wine route

South of the East Kelowna wineries are the lakeshore vineyards and wineries. Each offers breathtaking views of the Okanagan Lake as it turns north and looks west from the slopes above the lower mission. Downtown, the floating bridge, and West Kelowna across the lake are all visible. Some of the oldest vineyards in the Okanagan are located at these wineries.
