We are very pleased to bring you the news that The Gilmour Project has announced UK dates for 2024 and will be performing the immortal music of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour.

Comprising Jeff Pavar (lead guitar with CSN, David Crosby/CPR, Phil Lesh), Kasim Sulton (bass & vocals with Todd Rundgren, Utopia, Meatloaf), Prairie Prince (co-founder of The Tubes, original drummer with Journey, drums with Todd Rundgren), Mark Karan (guitar & vocals with Bob Weir, RatDog, The Other Ones), Scott Guberman (keyboard & vocals with Phil Lesh & Friends), The Gilmour Project brings together some of music’s most highly esteemed players to explore the Gilmour-years of the Pink Floyd catalogue in all their complexity, alongside notable highlights from Gilmour’s own solo canon.

Recently completing a mammoth 55-date tour across North America in celebration of the 1973 Pink Floyd masterwork, ‘The Dark Side of The Moon’, the tour was greeted to immense acclaim from press and audiences alike.

With demand for the band showing no signs of slowing down, in 2024, The Gilmour Project will bring their unique show to the UK for the very first time. Lining-up 13 shows throughout February next year, the run will see them take in some of the nation’s finest venues, from Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall (2 Feb), to London’s The Roundhouse (6 Feb), before concluding at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on 19th February.

The 5-piece, All-Star ensemble, The Gilmour Project quickly gained a reputation for flipping the ‘Tribute Band’ script on its head, with exploratory performances of iconic and deep cut Pink Floyd classics, David Gilmour-centric and solo compositions, and pulling other surprise classic rock masterpieces out of their hats. Their version of Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ appeared in their sets, weeks ahead of its ‘Stranger Things’ buoyed resurgence to the top of the charts and worldwide press, with a spooky timeliness.

Starting from the heart of Pink Floyd’s musical structure, these superstars allow each other to soar in collaborative improvisation to deeply express the soul of this profound music. These lifelong, stadium musicians add a new, authentic edge to the virtuosic impact of the compositions, better than a mere tribute band. Floyd fanatics throughout North America (the U.S., Canada & Mexico) amazed at the agility of these sincerely dedicated and venerable artists as they dove deeply into a catalogue of hits, deep tracks and astonishing covers conjoined to overwhelming Pink Floyd reverie.

Their original multimedia, ‘Floydian’ spectacle, eschewed poaching Floyd/Gilmour production assets and imagery – relying instead on visuals created by acclaimed (Blondie and Todd Rundgren) LD Hans Shoop and quadraphonic sound design and special audio FX by The Duke of New York (producer of Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland – The Remixes’). Each show was live streamed, modernising a page from Grateful Dead’s nihilist marketing playbook, and making the performances available for free around the world for those unable to attend due to Covid concerns, or just unable to attend by being on the other side of the planet.

The Gilmour Project is:

  • Jeff Pevar (lead guitar with CSN, David Crosby/CPR, Joe Cocker, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, Phil Lesh & Friends, Ricki Lee Jones, Marc Cohn).
  • Kasim Sulton (musical director & bass with, bass & vocals with Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, Blue Oyster Cult, Hall & Oates, Cheap Trick, Cyndi Lauper & Joan Jett).
  • Prairie Prince (co-founder of The Tubes, original drummer with Journey, drums with Todd Rundgren, Blue Floyd, Jefferson Starship, Phil Lesh & Friends, XTC, George Harrison, Chris Isaak, Dick Dale).
  • Mark Karan (guitar & vocals with Bob Weir, RatDog, The Other Ones, Dave Mason, Live Dead ’69.
  • Scott Guberman keyboard & vocals with Phil Lesh & Friends, Live Dead ’69, Keystone Revisited.

With tickets for all of the shows are on sale now. The full list of dates are as follows:

David Gilmour , who has often given off the appearance of being happily retired, hasn’t been keeping himself from the studio after all. The ex- Pink Floyd singer-guitarist has announced his first album in nine years, “Luck and Strange,” and he’s giving everyone time to prepare for it, with the release not coming till Sept. 6.

The first teaser track is imminent, however, with “The Piper’s Call” due to come out on DSPs on Thursday, to be followed by a music video on Friday. He also released a short teaser on YouTube featuring himself and his dog in the studio during the mixing process.

Popular on Variety

Lyrics have mostly been written by Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, as has been the case with Gilmour’s albums for decades, and the latter-day/post-Roger Waters material that Pink Floyd did before retiring the moniker, Samson said in a statement that the songs are “written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.”

Other family members also contribute, harking back to family livestreams that the Gilmour clan did during the pandemic lockdowns. Romany Gilmour sings, plays harp and sings lead vocals on “Between Two Points.” Gabriel Gilmour contributes backing vocals. Charlie Gilmour wrote lyrics for the album’s closing song, “Scattered.”

Gilmour collaborated with a co-producer on the album, Charlie Andrew, who’s worked with ALT-J and Marika Hackman. “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos,” Gilmour recalled in a statement, “and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?'” While Andrew questioning the need for guitar solos may not put him in the immediate good stead of all Gilmour fans, the artist says the approach of not taking any tropes for granted was refreshing. “He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

Famed photographer Anton Corbijn is responsible for the album imagery.

Gilmour was last in the news in 2023 when the deepening of a longstanding rift between him and Waters became apparent. Samson responded to Waters’ ongoing controversies by publicly stating to her husband’s former bandmate that he was “rotten to your antisemitic core” and “a Putin apologist,” and Gilmour emphatically cosigned his spouse’s statement, writing: “Every word demonstrably true.”

Gilmour toured behind the 2015 “Rattle That Lock” album, his fourth solo effort, and had suggested he was done hitting the road after that; there’s no indication yet whether he might reconsider in support of the new effort.

David Gilmour (born March 6, 1946) is a revered British guitarist, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hailing from Cambridge, England, UK. On top of being a successful solo artist, Gilmour is best known as the guitarist and co-vocalist in the seminal progressive rock band Pink Floyd.

Encouraged by his parents to pursue music, Gilmour took an early interest in the sounds of Bill Haley, Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers. Before long Gilmour began practicing the guitar, later meeting future Pink Floyd members Syd Barrett and Roger Waters at Cambridgeshire High School for Boys. The singer-songwriter went on to busk around France and Spain with Barrett in 1965 in a tumultuous period for Gilmour. By 1967 he had been invited to join Pink Floyd and along with Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright, made musical history selling over 250 million records worldwide. After Barrett’s departure from the band in 1968 Gilmour provided lead vocals notably on the albums “Dark Side of the Moon” and “Wish You Were Here”.

10 years later, in an attempt to utilise all of his musical and songwriting talents, Gilmour turned his attention to recording a solo album. The 1978 self-titled release, marked by its bluesy, guitar-driven sound, earned strong reviews from critics and peaked at No. 17 in the UK. Gilmour’s sophomore album “About Face” was released in 1984 and became a tool to distance himself away from Pink Floyd and provide a commentary for his thoughts. In 1987 Gilmour took complete control of Pink Floyd with the departure of Roger Waters which resulted in “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” in 1987 and “The Division Bell” in 1994.

In 2005 Gilmour was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to music, after which he released his third solo album “On an Island” in 2006. The live album “Live in Gdansk” appeared in 2010 followed by a collaborated with the electronic outfit the Orb on the album “Metallic Spheres”. A year later Rolling Stone magazine ranked him the 14th best guitarist of all time.

Live reviews

David Gilmour - what can you write about such a name? A concert with the singer and guitarist of one of the most famous rock bands in the world - Pink Floyd - is an event that you will never forget and that you should never miss.

Although David Gilmour is now an old grey-haired man, his voice still sounds like it did in the best Pink Floyd days. Live, his rendition of arguably their most famous song "Wish You Were Here", is performed in such a powerful way, that you'd think time had stopped for some decades. Together with piano and strings this song is unforgettable live.

I can't imagine what it would have been like back in the day. Another song that was worth the long, long journey to hear it live was "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Especially in the acoustic version - it is unbelievable what Gilmour made out of this old classic. He started with a neverending intro morphing the song so that only experts in the audience recognized it from the initial strains.

All in all I can give everybody the tip to use the chance to go to a David Gilmour concert - You never know when it will be his last one. Forget songs like "The Wall" - these songs were made during a time Fink Floyd was successful - too successful in my eyes. The good songs were their earlier ones. And in concert, Gilmour reminded us of this fact.

David Jon Gilmour, CBE may not be a recognisable household name yet you only have to mention the name of his world famous band Pink Floyd and people suddenly realise David's importance to the genres of progressive and psychedelic rock.

Although this musician is considered one of the world's greatest guitarist by a number of celebrated publications, you really do have to watch him perform live in order to appreciate his musical talents. Although Gilmour is almost 70 years old, he does not miss one of those perfect notes all evening. Beginning with the spanning 'Breathe' followed by 'Time' he manages to hold the entire venue's attention with the simple movement of his guitar strings. The vocal also sounds really good considering that David was never a major vocalist in the original lineup. This is a fantastic way to hear the likes of 'Wish You Were Here' and 'Astronomy Domine' as Pink Floyd rarely tour anymore as a whole outfit. The addition of an orchestra gives a new dimension to the classic music and offers a new level of show to the whole operation.

The first Concert in Rome of the legendary guitar of Pink Floyd has been one of best live shows I've ever seen. The Playlist was incredible, ranging from the last tracks of Rattle That Lock up to the wonderful dreamy Fat Old Sun from "Atom Heart Mother".

The set of guitars Gilmour used included the relic sunburst Telecaster famous after his solo album "About Face", his Lap Steel, a blonde Gibson LA and the absolute rock legend "The Black Strat".

The dozen of guitar solos David played had his un-comparable taste and feeling. The second solo of Comfortably Numb, the best song in the human history, concluded the best event held in Rome for decades.

Thank you David for your art!

The concert was perfect. Gilmour is still able to sing like he's always sang. My problem was with the venue, eventhough the sound was amazing and much better than other venues, the entrance to the event was a total disaster. Without no particular reason, the security team kept us and almost have of the public, outside on line for more than half an hour, for we missed the first 5 songs, eventhough we arrived there before 8pm. I'd think twice going back to Radio City Music Hall for attending a concert there, and if so, we'd be sure to be there 2 hours ahead of the gig, to make sure we don't miss 30% of the show....

Thumbs down for Radio City security team!

Show espetacular.

The performance was awesome and that was what I was waiting for.

He played a mix of his and Pink Floyd's songs but I wish more visual effects on the big screen behind the stage. It showed movies only on some specific songs and not on all of them.

The ticket selling process was awful and I don't know if here is the right place to complain or not. We got three different place in three different tries for buying the tickets and the black market was huge outside the venue, and also many many fake tickets. The ID was supposed to be checked by the entrance but no one cared about it, funny!

5 Star Show all the way! One of the best shows I've ever seen. Sound was perfect, stage show was great and venue was ideal. He is the closest thing to the original Pink Floyd sound and feel as there original shows. I've seen the Wall Tour a few years back and this is what I've been missing all these years in my concert going experiences. This is one I will never forget and my buddies who didn't go are still kicking themselves! Best of wishes to David and his crew what a show!

Simply fantastic... he is not from this world. Worth every penny. Unforgettable show...perfectly produced...technically irretouchable. David Gilmour and his crew made me travel to the past through the classics Us and Then, Wish You Were Here, High Hopes, Astronomy Domine to the recent Girl on the Yellow Dress and Rattle that Lock to quote a few songs. If you have the opportunity and love Pink Ployd like me, you cannot miss this show...it will forever be in my mind...

Great show, started off a little slow but the fourth song was "Wish you were here" and that got the crowd going.

Very good sound quality, some excellent Gilmour solos, if you are a fan of great guitar playing don't miss David Gilmour and his Black Strat.

Finished off with a wonderful rendition of Comfortably Numb. It would be nice if he interacted with the crowd, more, there was very little crowd interaction.

The first single release The Piper's Call can be streamed for free now.

David Gilmour Luck and Strange

David Gilmour has announced his new album ‘Luck and Strange’, to be released on 6th September on Sony Music.

'Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman. Of this new working relationship, David says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years. Samson says of the lyrical themes covered on ‘Luck and Strange’, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.” Gilmour elaborates, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.” Polly has also found the experience of working with Charlie Andrew liberating, “He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason.” The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’ and has artwork and photography by the renowned artist Anton Corbijn. Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 at a jam in a barn at David’s house. Some contributions emerged from the live streams that Gilmour and family performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021; Romany Gilmour sings, plays the harp and appears on lead vocals on ‘Between Two Points’. Gabriel Gilmour also sings backing vocals. The album’s cover image, photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, is inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the album’s final song ‘Scattered’. Of working with his family on ‘Luck and Strange’, David says, “Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy.” Luck and Strange 1. David Gilmour announces first album in 9 years

Share with :.

David Gilmour has unveiled his first album in nine years, 'Luck and Strange'.

The Pink Floyd legend, 78, will return with the follow-up to 2015's 'Rattle That Lock' on September 6, and the lead single, 'The Piper’s Call', is out now.

Gilmour has once again teamed up with his wife Polly Samson on some of the lyrics after she contributed to his last LP.

As for the lyrical content, the pair tackle the heavy subject of mortality.

Samson, 61, said: “It’s written from the point of view of being older – mortality is the constant.”

Gilmour said: “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.”

The musician joined forces with Alt-J's producer Charlie Andrew and loved how "direct" he was with him.

Gilmour shared: “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, ‘Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’ and ‘Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?’

“He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.

“He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason.”

Gilmour's late Pink Floyd bandmate, keyboard player Richard Wright, who passed away in 2008, makes an appearance on the title track after they recorded their jam session at the former's barn in 2007.

The record is comprised of eight original tracks and a cover of The Montgolfier Brothers’ 'Between Two Points'.

The latter features their daughter Romany Gilmour, who sings and plays the harp on ‘Between Two Points’, whilst their son Gabriel added backing vocals.

Gabriel previously performed piano on the song ‘In Any Tongue’ on ‘Rattle That Lock’.

Gilmour added: “Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy."

The record also features Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry and Roger Eno – the brother of Brian Eno – on keyboards, and arrangements by Will Gardner.

'Luck and Strange' tracklisting:

1. 'Black Cat'

2. 'Luck and Strange'

3. 'The Piper’s Call'

4. 'A Single Spark'

5. 'Vita Brevis'

6. 'Between Two Points' (with Romany Gilmour)

7. 'Dark and Velvet Nights'

“Prepare.”

Sleep Token are currently in the US and will start their Teeth Of God North American run tomorrow at the Financial Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

The band are promoting their 2023 album Take Me Back To Eden , which was released via Spinefarm.

Metal Hammer gave Take Me Back To Eden a glowing 8/10 review upon release.

Journalist Dannii Leivers wrote: “Combining feeling and sound in a potent, masterful statement, …Eden is Sleep Token’s strongest effort to date.

“And, while they’ll always be Marmite, there’s no question it will delight those already onboard.

“This is a record that not only expands the band’s universe and continues to prod metal’s boundaries, but considers what it means to be human. Otherworldly they may be, but there’s the deepest empathy within.”

Sleep Token have since inked a deal with major label RCA.

The band announced the signing by calling it the start of their “new era”, which they’d previously teased by unveiling new masks in December 2023.

Mask designer Lani Hernadez-David stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that month: “I’m sure they have something in mind that the fans will appreciate greatly.

“There’s definitely a new era coming, but I won’t speak too much on that, because I’m not really clued up on it.”

David Gilmour Is Open to a Pink Floyd Hologram Show, Under “Very Difficult and Onerous Conditions”

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The post David Gilmour Is Open to a Pink Floyd Hologram Show, Under “Very Difficult and Onerous Conditions” appeared first on Consequence .

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour has said that he’s open to the idea of a Pink Floyd hologram show, à la ABBA Voyage, but only under a “series of very, very difficult and onerous conditions.”

The comments came in a new interview with Uncut , ahead of Gilmour’s first new album in nearly a decade, Luck and Strange (due on September 6th). Revealing that he and his wife, Polly Samson , had been invited to watch the ABBA Voyage show , the guitarist explained that he wasn’t quite blown away with the visuals of the hologram format, but appreciated the music.

“If you were a determined ABBA fan, you might enjoy it,” he said (per NME ). “I thought the images of them were sort of OK, but they weren’t ever going to convince me it was real. If you’re down the sort of mosh pit end of the thing and it’s all going on, it’s probably great. The best moment for me was when the live band played a song [‘Does Your Mother Know’] on their own.”

Then, when asked what he would think of a Pink Floyd hologram show, Gilmour approved of the idea, but not without caveats. “If someone came up with all the money and all the brilliant ideas – and then once we’ve agreed to a series of very, very difficult and onerous conditions – I’d say, ‘Yeah, OK.’”

It’s unclear exactly what those “very, very difficult” would be, but considering some of the tensions among Pink Floyd’s former members , we can take a few guesses.

If it’s the “they weren’t ever going to convince me it was real” visuals that Gilmour is concerned with, though, perhaps things are looking up. The Swedish entertainment and music investment firm Pophouse, who played a role in creating the ABBA Voyage show, recently acquired the IP of KISS to produce a new show , and will invest “about $200 million to take it to the next level,” according to the band’s Gene Simmons.

In other Gilmour news, Luck and Strange is out on September 6th via Sony Music. Last week, the album’s first single arrived: “The Piper’s Call,” with music by Gilmour and lyrics by his wife, Samson.

“He said things like, ’Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?’… He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine”: David Gilmour’s first solo album in 9 years features a new producer tearing up the rulebook

The first single from Luck and Strange drops tomorrow

David Gilmour playing guitar and singing live on stage

David Gilmour has just announced his first album in nine years, Luck and Strange . The first track, The Piper’s Call , drops tomorrow following a world-exclusive first play on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show .

Recorded over five months in Brighton and London, the record sees Gilmour team up with Alt-J producer Charlie Andrew. The collaboration pushed Gilmour to expand his horizons and rethink his traditional methods of composition.

“We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, 'Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?' and 'Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?'” Gilmour relayed.

“He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The full tracklisting is below:

  • Luck and Strange
  • The Piper’s Call
  • A Single Spark
  • Vita Brevis
  • Between Two Points - with Romany Gilmour
  • Dark and Velvet Nights

Other collaborators include Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past 30 years, who co-wrote the album's lyrics. Late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright also features on the album. Wright recorded his part on the title track in 2007 while jamming in a barn at Gilmour's house.

The full lineup of musicians comprises Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass; Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums; Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards, with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner.
