Dubai Metro Tickets and Fares

The Dubai Metro system is one of the most popular ways to travel in Dubai. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also a quick and easy way to get around the city.

We will provide you with all the information you need to know about Dubai Metro tickets and fares. We’ll cover everything from single journey fares to passes, so you can choose the option that best suits your needs.

Modes of public transport in Dubai include the  Dubai Metro ,  Dubai Tram , bus, and water bus.

Journeys can be made using a combination of different modes of transport and paid for using credits added to a contactless travel card (Nol Card).

Dubai’s transport system is divided into 7  zones . The price paid for a journey depends on the number of zones crossed during the trip. Ticket prices are cheap compared to similar systems in other major cities.

Silver Nol Card - Dubai Metro Ticket and Pass

Children aged up to 5 years travel free. Concessionary fares for students and senior citizens are only available to residents.

Passengers pay with Nol Cards; contactless smart cards. Different types of cards are available to meet individual passenger needs. Cards must be purchased before travel.

  • Silver Nol Cards – Suitable for residents and tourists.
  • Gold Nol Cards – Suitable for residents and tourists wishing to travel in Gold Class (first class carriages).
  • Personal Nol Cards – Personalised card with photo. Concessionary fares are available for students, seniors, and the disabled.
  • Red Tickets (paper) – Ideal for occasional users. Can be loaded with up to 10 trips or 5 daily passes.

Passengers cannot use cash as a direct payment method on the Dubai Metro, buses, or water buses. Credit cards and other payment forms are also not accepted as direct payments. Cash and credit cards can be used to buy the Nol cards, top them up, and add passes.

Gold Class carriages are for those that wish to travel first class. Every Dubai Metro train has one Gold Class carriage. They have bigger and more comfortable seats with more legroom. Gold Class carriages are typically less crowded than Standard Class carriages.

Nol Cards can be purchased at many locations in Dubai, including ticket offices at Dubai Metro stations and Dubai Bus stations. There are ticket offices at all stations on both the Red Line and the Green Line .

Nol Cards can be used on different forms of transport (Metro, buses, water buses).

Passengers are only charged once, dependent on the length of the journey, provided transfer times between different modes are adhered to (30 minutes maximum permitted).

For example, if your journey involves a trip on the Dubai Metro and a bus, your journey will be counted as a single trip provided you check-in on the bus within 30 minutes of checking out of the Dubai Metro station.

Nol is the Arabic word for ‘fare’.

The fare is charged at the end of the journey and is dependent on the number of zones passed through. The fare is deducted when the card is tapped on one of the card readers located at the exits of Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram stations, buses, or water buses.

The latest AED exchange rates are:

  • Euro – 1 AED = 0.26 euros
  • British pound – 1 AED = 0.22 British pounds
  • US dollars – 1 AED = 0.27 US dollars

Exchange rates were last updated on Wednesday 1st of May 2024 at 2:22 am . Exchange rates for other currencies can be found here .

A 50 percent discount is available to resident students and senior citizens holding Personal Nol Cards. Personal Nol Cards are only available to UAE nationals and residents (application procedure and ID required).

Small children (aged 5 and under) travel free (regardless of nationality and residence).

A map showing the zones and all Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram stations can be found  here .

The easiest way to work out the cost of a Metro trip is to use the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) S’hail app. The app gives the cost of the trip and journey times. It will also give the cost and journey times for other modes of transport (bus, local taxi, Uber, etc.).

Passes are available and can be added/charged to Nol Cards. They allow unlimited travel on the Metro, buses, Dubai Tram, etc. Passes offer cheaper fares for frequent travellers.

Prices for passes are shown in the table below:

As an example, holders of a Silver Card can add a 7-day all-zone pass for 110 AED (£ 23.99 , € 28.09 , $ 29.95 ).

Holders of Silver Cards can add an all-zone monthly pass (30-day) at a cost of 350 AED (£ 76.33 , € 89.38 , $ 95.29 ).

Resident students and seniors enjoy a 50 percent discount on the cost of travel passes.

Anonymous Silver Card and Gold Card users can only add a 7-day pass. To add 30-day (monthly), 90-day, or 1-year passes, users need to register their cards.

Red Ticket holders can add a standard 1 day pass for 20 AED (£ 4.36 , € 5.11 , $ 5.45 ). The cost of a 1-day pass for travel in Gold Class carriages is 40 AED (£ 8.72 , € 10.21 , $ 10.89 ). The 1-day ticket allows holders to travel in all zones by any method of transport. More 1 day passes can be added if and when required.

Best Nol Card for Tourists

Most tourists that plan to get around the city using public transport, will find that the Nol Silver Card suits their needs.

They can add a 7-day pass to the card without having to register the card. Further 7-day passes can be added for longer stays.

Tourists anticipating infrequent use of public transport should purchase a Red Ticket and add funds as required.

Nol Cards – Other Uses – Taxis, Parking, Shopping, etc

Nol Cards were introduced to pay for public transport (Dubai Metro, buses, etc.).

Since being launched their use has expanded. Holders can now use the Nol Card system to pay for a variety of services and goods including:

  • Shopping – Stores accepting Nol Cards include Circle K (convenience store) and Carrefour.
  • Restaurants – Nol Cards can be used to buy food and drink at outlets such as Burger King and Gloria Jean’s Coffees.
  • Parking – The latest parking meters allow drivers to pay for their parking without obtaining a paper ticket. Drivers simply enter their number plate on the touchscreen of the parking meter and pay using a Nol Card (or coins)
  • Public Parks – The small fee to enter public parks can now only be paid by Nol Card. Public parks where entry fees apply include  Zabeel Park ,  Al Mamzar Beach Park ,  Dubai Creek Park , and  Mushrif Park .

Nol Cards only work in Dubai. They are not accepted as a form of payment in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or any of the other emirates.

We will be in Dubai from 3/3-3/7 and most of what we will be seeing is along the Red Line. Is that all one zone? We have no need for a five day pass. So I assume single ticket? Can I put a load on it such as 50 AED?

I want to know the rate for monthly unlimited pass for a resident visa holder.

Can I use a silver card for two persons?

My son (21 years old) and I will be travelling to Dubai for 7 days. We are tourists. I presume Silver Card would be convenient. 1. Can I purchase the Silver Card from the Airport? 2. Since we will be using this card most of the time on the metro, bus and monorail, how much top up should we have? Just an estimate. 3. Can we get a refund on the unused amount in the Silver Card? Possible to get at the Airport Metro? Thanks.

How can I travel from Dubai to Abu Dhabi by train and how much does it cost. It is cheaper to book online or when you are in Dubai?

I am a resident using metro and bus. I have to take two buses to reach my room from work and same to go for work. Which pass is suitable for me and how much does it cost?

We are five friends are travelling to Dubai for holidays. So which card should we buy and what would be the price?

You can buy the tickets from each station as you travel.

Go for silver card (one for each). 25 aed (6 aed card price – 19 aed balance), and the details for charges between different zones you can see above.

How do I get from the Dubai airport to the Burj Khalifa.

From Terminal 3 take the Red Line and exit at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station.

Burj Khalifa is on the Red Line.

Silver card is enough. The cost is depends on how many zones you are crossing, not how many buses you take.

I want to use this card from abudabi to dubai bus. And in dubai that day to the visiting house and next day to airport for twice in total. Then which card should I buy?

Take silver nol card to travel inside Dubai. From Abu Dhabi to Dubai you have to pay by cash.

Is there any discount for everyday commuters?

Yes, you can take the monthly pass, and there are 3 types of pass available. if you are travelling between only one zone then the pass cost will be 140 AED. A two zone pass is 240 AED. A three zone of more pass is 340 AED..

Yes. You can buy 1 year, 30 days or 7 days unlimited travel pass for all zones or some of the zones.

For tourists, Gold Class travel in metro train is advisable as regular class is most often too congested.

At the time of writing, Gold class unlimited pass for 7 days for all zones costs around AED 400 (around US$ 110) and it covers metro train, bus and tram.

I’ll be visiting Dubai for a month with a friend. Which would be the best card to move between Ajman and Dubai?

Red card is valid for 90 days. Or you can get the silver card (AED 25 extra) if you plan to visit again within 5 years. Get a gold card if you want to use the gold class.

You can’t use nol card to travel between different emirates.

Take a bus from Al Mussallah Bus Station in Ajman to Al Rashidya Bus Station in Dubai (and back). One-way ticket costs around 12 to 15 dirhams (around US$4).

Sliver card is affordable for tourists or residents.

Hello, I will be in Dubai overnight (from 10pm to 8am next day). Is the 1 day ticket for 24 hours or for a calendar day?

Only until midnight. 🙁

its valid for the following day till midnight 12.00 a.m.

I’m a foreign student coming to Dubai for my educational program which is of 2 years. Which card or pass will be best suitable for me?

The Silver card Or the Gold card if you want to travel in STYLE

Silver nol card is ok for you.

depends on how often you use the public transport within Dubai. If you travel on daily basis then get a (money saver) 3 month pass (if your semester is going to take more then 3 months to finish), or go for monthly passes if you travel more then 20day a month (and if you semester break is less than 3 months far from now)

The Blue nol card standard class

The blue nol card would be best.

Ask the station master. He will advise you.

I suggest you go for the Silver Nol Card.

It depends where you are going and where you are living. You can take Dubai Tram or Dubai Metro.

We are staying in Dubai for 5 nights travelling 2 people. please suggest the best card for transportation in Dubai. thank you 🙂

Don’t be lazy, see list above!

Don’t be lazy. Give a proper answer!!!

Nol is the best card for transportation.

Silver will be better.

If you are staying only for 5 days, I think buying a daily metro ticket would be the best and cheapest.

Thank you for the article. It was very informative.

Just a quick query. I recently got a job in Dubai Investment Park. However, I will be staying quite far away from my work place. Since I would be using the metro & bus regularly, would it be beneficial for me to get a 30 day pass? And on which type of card would it be better? Silver or Blue? Thanks again in advance! Cheers!

Get the Silver card. You can go for Gold card if you want premium seats at the front of the metro. But the fare of the gold card is double that of silver cards.

Do the day passes have to be consecutive? We will be in Dubai before and after a cruise and would like to use the metro before and after.

You can buy a consecutive one.

Can you buy family travel passes in Dubai? How does that cost? If children go free, what is the maximum age? Or is there any discount price for children?

Children below 1 metre can ride for free

5 and under are free. Otherwise you must pay full fare.

The maximum age for free metro in Dubai is 5 years and under.

can i buy a metro card online before i get to dubai

yes, visit, nol.ae

No you can’t. But when you get out of the airport there is a metro station where you can buy at the counter.

HI There, we going Dubai this month for 5 days with kids and 1 person is 65, we would like to travel my metro, could you please advice which is best line we need to use and the tickets price.

Gold metro daily ticket.

Hello! I will soon visit Dubai for 10 days (9 nights) with my husband. Can you please advise me which card is suitable for us to roam from places to places until night and the total cost for 2 adults.

I am not understanding the difference between daily passes and cards. Are the costs different? Do the cards allow us to use bus or do we need to pay additional fees?

Thanking you in advance Shakeela

Get the silver card. As your stay is long, daily tickets are of no use to you. Silver card gets you 10% discount from the normal fare of daily cards. Yes you can use the cards on bus.

We will be in Dubai for 2 days. We will use the metro from the International Airport. we are arriving at 11 pm. What is the operating hour for the metro What card will i need if i were to travel from airport to Al Ras station and also to Dubai mall the next day. We are a family of 4 so do we need 4 cards?

Going to be in Dubai for 13 hours. Looking to go from the airport to downtown Dubai. Is the red card, with a daily pass, a good bet? Thanks

How do you change metro lines? Do you go out of the metro station?

No, you get out of the train and take another train.

My wife and I, would like to visit Dubai for 7 days. We would like to use all public transportations (tram, metro and buses). What card we should buy and where can we buy it?

Regards and thanks

Me and my husband will be staying in Dubai for 8 days. What pass do we buy?

Hello! We are staying in Dubai for 4 days. Can we buy mutliple red cards and refill it every day? Can we chose to get 1 gold card and fill it for 7 days?

Planning to visit Dubai in June for 11 days. Travelling with my family, 2 daughters aged 10 & 5. Questions: Is there a big difference between Gold and Standard Class? Is there discount for children travelling?

Hi, everyday I used to travel from Emirates Metro Station to UAE Exchange Metro Station back to back. Metro train is my daily transportation to office. Is there anything you can advise me to do to have a discount or to save more? I’m an expat holding residence visa.

Is a day pass good for 24 hours or a calendar day?

Found the silver card very handy and easy to use. Cheaper than individual fares, cost us five for journey which cost non card holder ten. Very similar to using the Dublin Leap card.

I am coming to Dubai for one day only and making the following 4 trips: 1) Airport to Dubai Media City 2) Dubai Media City to Dierah City Center 3) Dierah City Center to Dubai Mall 4) Dubai Mall to Airport

What is the cheapest ticket I can buy. And up to what time the metro operates. Thanks.

In my opinion, it is just easiest to pay for each trip using the Silver Nol card. The red cards and day passes are confusing and not a good deal.

The first time you ride the metro, buy a Silver card from the manned kiosk near the entry turnstyles. It costs only 25AED and comes with 19AED value on the card. When the card has less than 8AED, simply top it up with another 10-15AED at the same manned kiosk, or the top up machines at the station.

Messing around with single trip tickets and day passes are overly complicated to me.

Before leaving Dubai, simply give your card as a gift to a hotel worker or taxi driver that was nice to you. They will appriciate the gesture, I’m sure.

Very helpful, thank you!

Thanks Harry.

Good job Harry

Thanks for this very useful information.

We are going to Dubai for holidays and we need to travel a lot between Dubai and Sharjah. Can the Dubai metro passes be used for buses in Sharjah ? If not, is there any other pass that covers the public transport in both the Emirates ?

Nearest metro from Sharjah is Al Quasis metro station green line. You would then have to switch lines after a few stops to the red line to continue to Damac which is Dubai Marina

Minimum fare from one station to very next station is AED 3 for silver card holders for both red and green lines?

We’re traveling in a group of two people. Can one silver card be used by two people at the same time of do we need to purchase two cards?

It is one card per person. There is no option to swipe twice for two people.

Hi, If I buy red ticket and load it with 7 days passes, would it allow me to have unlimited rides for 7 days or not?

I have limited mobility and can’t do stairs. Is the Metro easily accessible for those with limited mobility?

All Metro stations are equipped with lifts and escalators for access.

Use public transport it’s cheap safe metro can get a bit crowded but that’s part of the fun sometimes

Can I buy cards online?

Nol card is issued by RTA and this cannot be purchased online. Just dont buy red card as it is only valid for 90 days.

Good information and useful

Does one need 2 cards for travel on the red line and green line or 1 card is enough to travel both lines?

You only need one card.

We are two seniors (ages 72 and 74) travelling to Dubai for five days in February. We are looking for a pass that covers trains, trams and buses (including water buses).

NOL Card works on Trains, Trams and Buses. You shall have to check for water buses..

Hi. I’m going to visit Dubai this month for the job hunt. That means I will need to travel a lot. I’m coming for 30 days. Which card will be suitable for me? Thanks in advance.

You can get a Silver card (no ID required) and load it with a 30 day pass. The new fares came out late last year. I presume you will want a pass that covers all zones. This will cost 350 AED.

You don t need that much. 100-150 aed might be well enough, depending on how much you travel. Sometimes 1 to 3 rudes enough cause day ends up pretty fast before you finish visiting one area. Take it easy. If you need more you can top up at the metro station,

30 days pass available for person having Resident Visa Only. On Tourist Visa One month pass not given

We’re in Sharjah and Dubai on holiday for seventeen days. Is there any card which is valid for public transport to visit exciting places like Dubai Mall etc?

Depends how long you are in Dubai for? If you are in Dubai for a week you could buy a Silver card and charge it up with a 7 day pass for all zones for 110 AED (or two 7 day passes). You could also buy a red ticket(s) for 1 day at 20 AED.

That can be used for any form of public transportation.

We at staying in Dubai for 5 days. Is there a ticket that will cover all public transport for the 5 days or do we need to get a ticket for each trip?

You could buy a Red Ticket and load it with 5 daily passes. The Red Ticket costs 2 AED for the ticket itself. A daily pass costs 20 AED. So the total cost would be 102 AED.

The ticket would be valid for the Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, and buses.

If you want to travel Gold Class on the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram the daily pass costs 40 AED per day.

Is it loading the Red ticket to 20 aed the only option? Can’t we load a lesser amount like 10 aed, if we are gonna travel only once to n fro.

This comprehensive guide to the Dubai NOL Card is designed to provide you with all the essential information you require concerning tickets and fares for the Dubai public transport system. The Dubai NOL Card serves as a rechargeable electronic ticket that is indispensable for utilizing the Dubai Metro and buses .

Given the array of ticket options and fare variations tailored for both tourists and residents , complete with diverse prices and features, navigating these choices can be daunting, especially for first-time visitors . Therefore, we have created this user-friendly guide to assist you in swiftly determining the most suitable Dubai NOL Card for your needs.

The term “ Nol “ in Arabic translates to “ fare “ , and the NOL Card stands out as a versatile and extensively utilized payment system in Dubai, one that you’ll need to acquaint yourself with as soon as you arrive in the country. A NOL Card is essential for traversing the entire RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) network, encompassing the Dubai Metro , buses and trams . Furthermore, it serves as a means of payment for numerous other services across Dubai, such as parking , public park admissions , museums , and much more!

What you will find in this guide to the Dubai NOL Card:

Dubai NOL Card: An Overview and Key Information

The Dubai NOL Card is essential for navigating the city’s efficient and extensive public transportation network . It’s a contactless smart card that allows seamless access to Dubai’s buses , metros , trams , and water buses . The NOL Card comes in different types, catering to various travel needs, making it a practical option for both tourists and residents .

The Dubai Metro covers major tourist attractions , while buses offer access to less central locations . Trams provide a convenient way to explore the Dubai Marina area , and water buses connect various points along the city’s waterways. This integrated system ensures seamless transfers between different modes, making it a breeze to explore the city without the hassle of purchasing separate tickets for each leg of your journey.

One of the key benefits of the NOL Card is its flexibility . Whether you’re a daily commuter or a tourist looking to explore the city for a few days, there’s a NOL Card option that suits you. Plus, the card can be easily recharged at numerous locations across the city. You can top up your card at any metro or bus station, convenience stores, or online through the RTA website , ensuring that you’re always ready to hop on a train or bus without any interruptions. Navigating Dubai using the NOL Card is not only practical but also cost-effective .

Apart from its transportation benefits, the NOL Card can also be used for parking and even as a payment method at select retail outlets. To get your NOL Card , simply visit one of the conveniently located kiosks , stations, or authorized retailers . Choose the card type that best suits your travel needs, load it with credit , and you’re all set to explore Dubai with ease. The NOL Card simplifies your travel experience by eliminating the need to carry cash or search for ticket counters. Just tap your card at the entry and exit points of stations or vehicles, and you’re good to go.

Why do I need a Dubai NOL Card?

The Dubai NOL Card proves indispensable for navigating the city’s public transport system. Given that cash payments are not accepted and the fare structure is intricate , the optimal strategy to economize and ensure fair pricing for each individual ride is to rely on the NOL Card . This card ensures that you are billed precisely for the distance traveled, from origin to destination .

Spearheaded by the RTA (Road Transport Authority) , the governing body for urban public transportation, Dubai is divided into seven zones , numbered from 1 to 7 . It’s worth noting that certain zones situated in remote desert areas may be of limited relevance to most travelers .

Public transport journeys fall into three distinct categories : travel within the same zone , travel between two adjacent zones , and travel spanning two non-adjacent zones . The pricing structure hinges on these distinctions. Furthermore, selecting a single journey ticket will incur a higher fare compared to using the NOL Card . And if you want to buy a tourist pass with unlimited rides for one or more days, the NOL Card stands as the exclusive option .

Which Dubai NOL Card to Choose?

There are four distinct types of Dubai NOL Cards available:

  • Dubai NOL Card Red
  • Dubai NOL Card Silver
  • Dubai NOL Card Gold
  • Dubai NOL Card Personal (formerly known as Blue NOL Card )

Among these, the most suitable options for tourists are the Red and Silver Dubai NOL Cards . The Red Dubai NOL Card , officially referred to as the Red Ticket , functions as a single ticket for travelers. While primarily intended for tourists, it can be recharged and utilized as a NOL Card, albeit with certain limitations. It is valid for metro and bus travel, allowing up to 10 journeys to be recharged. However, it’s important to note that the fare for a single journey is slightly higher compared to the Dubai NOL Card Silver .

The Silver Dubai NOL Card is priced at AED 25 ($7) for purchase, which includes AED 19 ($5) worth of travel credit. This card can be recharged multiple times within its 5-year validity period. It is accepted across all modes of public transportation and can be conveniently recharged at underground station ticket offices or RTA kiosks situated throughout the city. These kiosks are user-friendly and offer clear instructions in English.

The remaining two cards cater primarily to locals. The Dubai NOL Card Gold grants access to the Gold Class on the Metro and Dubai Tram services. Notably, both the Dubai Metro and trams feature a first-class section, which is especially designated for women and children, resulting in reduced congestion. To avail this first-class service, the Dubai NOL Card Gold is necessary, with each trip in this class costing approximately twice the standard fare. However, it’s worth mentioning that Dubai’s metro and trams are typically less crowded and generally safe for all passengers.

Finally, the Dubai NOL Card Personal (formerly known as Blue NOL Card ) is designed for residents. This personalized card includes a photo and is exclusively issued at select metro offices. It provides concessions for seniors and disabled individuals and also offers a credit refund option in case of loss or theft. However, it’s important to highlight that this card is solely intended for UAE residents.

How to Get a NOL Card in Dubai

Acquiring a Dubai NOL Card is a straightforward process with multiple options available to suit your convenience. Here are the various methods through which you can obtain your NOL Card:

  • Ticket Offices: You can conveniently purchase your NOL Card from ticket offices located within all Dubai Metro stations and select Dubai Bus stations. This allows you to acquire your card directly from these accessible locations. NOL Silver cards can also be obtained from RTA Customer Service Centres and RTA authorized sales agents across Dubai.
  • Ticket Vending Machines: Dubai’s NOL Card Silver and Red Tickets are also available for purchase through designated Ticket Vending Machines. These user-friendly machines offer a convenient way to acquire your card or ticket.

Dubai NOL Card Fare Zones

Understanding Dubai’s fare zones might seem complex, but there’s a simple way to grasp the concept quickly and recognize the limited utility of the 1-zone ticket in most cases. Let me provide you with practical examples, focusing on the three key areas that are most relevant for tourists :

  • ZONE 5 : This zone encompasses the Deira area and includes the vicinity of Dubai International Airport (DBX) .
  • ZONE 6 : Extending from Dubai Creek to the north and the Dubai Cana l to the south, Zone 6 covers the Downtown Dubai area. Notable landmarks within this zone include the Burj Khalifa , the Dubai Mall , and the Port Rashid cruise port.
  • ZONE 2 : Encompassing a vast region that stretches along Jumeirah Beach , Zone 2 features the iconic Palm Jumeirah , the vibrant Dubai Marina district, and the renowned Burj Al Arab .

It’s evident that merely traversing through some of the city’s most popular and must-see locations necessitates crossing a minimum of three fare zones. You can find a map of the NOL Fare zones and fare information on the RTA official website.

A small clarification: The official name is the Dubai Explorer Pass, but it has many other names such as: Dubai Pass, Dubai Pass City, Dubai Explorer Pass, Dubai Activity Pass. ..

You will also find it under the references “Go Dubai Pass” or “Go Dubai Explorer” , which is its former name.

No matter which term I use in the article, I am referring to this one pass to visit Dubai!

Dubai Explorer Pass: how does it works?

Activities and trips included in the dubai pass, where to buy dubai city pass, where to collect my dubai explorer pass, price of the dubai explorer pass, for how long is my dubai explorer pass valid, do you have to book the dubai pass in advance, dubai explorer pass: review, you’re traveling to dubai these articles will help you .

If you are used to traveling, you know that buying a city pass is often the best way to save money on the price of your activities.

Well, the Dubai Explorer Pass is no exception!

However, it works a bit differently than traditional city passes: where most passes run on time (24h/48h/72h), the Dubai Pass lets you choose a number of attractions to visit.

There are therefore 4 versions of the Dubai Explorer Pass:

  • The Dubai Pass for 3 attractions
  • Pass for 4 attractions in Dubai
  • Pass for 5 activities in Dubai
  • The Dubai Explorer Pass for 7 attractions.

No matter which version you choose, the list of activities included in the Dubai City Pass remains the same.

You will have as many choices (in total more than 50 different activities!) if you take the 3 attractions Pass as you do for the 7 attractions Pass.

The only difference is the number of activities you can do with your city pass: 3, 4, 5 or 7.

You will have to choose this number when you make your purchase. It’s therefore important to determine in advance the number of activities you want to do in Dubai.

For example, you can’t buy the Dubai Activity Pass for 4 attractions and then decide to visit an additional attraction (even if it’s in the list).

To give you an idea, the Pass for 4 activities cannot be transformed into a Pass for 5 activities . You will have to buy a separate ticket for the fifth visit and your pass will no longer be valid.

To buy your Dubai Pass for 3/4/5/7 attractions , you just need to click on the button below:

I will give you all the details about the attractions included in the Dubai Explorer Pass below.

When purchasing the pass, you will only be asked to choose the number of activities you want to do , not the exact attractions.

For example, you decide to take the Pass for 3 attractions and you plan to do the Burj Khalifa, dinner cruise and the Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark.

During your trip to Dubai, you can decide not to go to the water park and instead opt for a desert safari or any of the other activities.

This is really one of the great advantages of the Dubai Pass: being able to change your mind at the last minute!

  • 3 attractions – €173
  • 4 attractions – €217
  • 5 attractions – €265
  • 7 attractions – €355.

This rate applies to all persons aged 13 years and over.

There is also a different rate for the Dubai Pass Explorer for children (12 years old and under):

  • 3 attractions – €142
  • 4 attractions – €178
  • 5 attractions – €220
  • 7 attractions – €291.

The price of the Dubai Pass may seem high at first sight, but I assure you that it will save you money compared to buying a ticket for each activity once you get there.

It’s also so much more convenient!

The Dubai Pass is valid for 60 days from the first activation, that is, the first activity you complete.

You don’t have to hurry to visit the 3, 4, 5 or 7 attractions you have chosen in 1 or 2 days, you will have the entire duration of your stay to enjoy them.

Of course, the Pass is no longer valid once you have exhausted your quota of activities. If you take the 3 attractions Pass and you do all 3 on the same day, your Dubai Pass will obviously not be valid anymore.

desert Dubai

The Dubai activity pass is divided into 2 types of attractions:

  • Activities for which you don’t need to book a seat or time slot, such as the Atlantis Aquaventure or the amusement parks like Motiongate. You just have to go there and show your code to get in.
  • Activity that requires a reservation. Reservations are required to visit the Burj Khalifa or the desert safari.

The distinction between activities requiring a reservation and activities that do not is properly explained in the booklet you will receive with your purchase confirmation email.

And for each activity requiring a reservation, you will have precise information on how to make your reservation. You will see, it’s really simple!

The Dubai Pass is super convenient and comprehensive.

You will have the choice between many must-see attractions such as the visit to the Burj Khalifa , the desert safari, the Yacht cruise or the Atlantis Aquaventure Water Park.

If you have to choose only 4 activities, these are the ones I particularly recommend. Together with  Dubai Marina zipline (which is not included and needs to be booked here ), these are for me the 5 best activities to do in Dubai.

The Dubai Pass will for sure allow you to save money and make the most of your stay!

You should also know that there is another pass to visit Dubai: the All Inclusive Go Dubai Card or unlimited Dubai Pass . It allows to visit an unlimited number of attractions but the pass has a validity duration of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 days.

I don’t recommend it because the prices are really high and it will be difficult to make it profitable unless you just chain activities.

That’s why the Dubai City Pass is, in my opinion, the best pass to visit Dubai!

Nol Card: Transportation and travel tickets in Dubai

If you are planning to take public transport while in Dubai, you are going to need to purchase a transport ticket: a NOL Card.

The NOL Card is a rechargeable smart card that allows you to use the various means of public transport in the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) network: the metro, buses, tram, water buses or Abra, parking lots but also to pay for a trip in some taxis.

The different types of RTA NOL cards

There are four types of Nol Card ticket in Dubai:

A Nol Red Ticket

A Nol Silver Card

A Nol Gold Card

And the Nol Blue Card

Nol Red Ticket

The Nol Red Ticket is a paper ticket that allows you to pay for a single trip, load up to 10 trips or 5 daily passes and an unlimited transport day pass.

Warning ! A Nol Red Ticket does not allow you to use the various modes of public transport at the same time, so you will have to choose: either take the metro only, take only the Bus, the Tram or only the water buses / Abras.  Connections between Bus, tram and metro are therefore also excluded.

From the date of purchase, the Nol Red Ticket is valid for 90 days or when the maximum number of authorized journeys has been completely consumed.

RTA Nol Silver Card

The NOL Silver Card is a rechargeable electronic chip card that can be used interchangeably in all public transport systems in Dubai: the metro, tram, buses, water buses and in certain car parks.

The Nol Silver Card costs 25 AED (of which 6AED is the processing price of the card + 19AED travel credit), it can be topped up to a maximum of AED 5,000 and is valid for 5 years.

The minimum balance to start a trip with a Nol Silver Card is 7.5 AED.

Dubai Nol Gold Card

The NOL Gold Card is an electronic chip card that is basically the same as the Nol Silver Card but it allows you to travel first class on the Dubai Metro. First class in the Dubai Metro overall has more comfortable seats, is less likely to be overcrowded and always has working AC.

The Nol Gold Card costs 25 AED (of which 6AED is the processing price of the card + 19AED travel credit), it can be topped up to a maximum of AED 5,000 and is valid for 5 years.

The minimum balance to start a trip with a Nol Gold Card is 7.5 AED.

RTA Nol Blue Card

The NOL Blue Card also contains the same features as the Silver or Gold Card except that it is an electronic smart card personalized with the user’s photo and is intended only for residents of Dubai,

The Nol Blue Card costs AED 70 for standard class and AED 80 for Gold Class (of which AED 50 or 60 for the card processing price and AED 20 travel credit), it can be topped up with a maximum 5,000 AED and is valid for 5 years.

The minimum balance to start a trip with a Nol Blue Card is 7.5 AED.

How does the Nol Card work?

The Nol Card is a contactless smart card.

To validate entry or exit at the station, simply swipe your Nol Card in front of the chip reader on the validation barrier.

Then wait to hear a beep or see the green light which signals that your ticket has been validated for this journey, you can then go through the entry / or exit doors which will open in front of you.

The system will automatically calculate the exact cost of your trip based on the number of zones you will be crossing and will display the remaining balance on your card, if applicable.

nol card dubai

How much does a trip cost with a Nol Card?

Fares vary depending on the number of zones crossed, but generally they range from AED 3 for a single trip in a single travel zone to AED 7.50 for an all zone trip.

Fares are slightly higher with a Nol Red Ticket or when traveling in first class.

Price of a single trip per travel zone

Where to buy and reload the nol card.

For now, only Nol Blue Card holders can order and top up online via the Roads and Transport Authority website.

It is currently not possible to purchase a Nol Red ticket or a NOL Card (Silver or Gold) online for non-residents of Dubai.

You can, however, buy and top up your Nol Card at the counters and certain ticket machines in all metro stations (including terminals 1, 2 and 3 of Dubai International Airport) and certain bus stops or at RTA authorized sales agents.

How to check nol card balance?

The balance of your Nol Card is displayed each time you enter and exit a station, metro, tram and bus.

You can also view it from any authorized ATM, ticket machine and sales agent.

Please note: this displayed balance includes the minimum travel charge for the Nol Card as well as the remaining credit for your travel.

Remember that you need a minimum balance of 7.50 AED to be able to continue traveling, if your card shows a balance of 8 or 10 AED, remember to top up soon!

Unlimited transport passes RTA NOL Card

It is also possible to buy a pass for unlimited travel for one day, seven days, one month, three months or even for 365 days provided it is loaded on a Nol Card.

The One Day Pass: Available only on a NOL Red Ticket, the One Day Pass allows users to travel without limit for a period of 1 calendar day from the effective date.

The 7-Day Pass: Allows users to benefit from an unlimited number of journeys on public transport in Dubai for a period of 7 calendar days from the effective date.

The 30 Day Pass: Available only on a Nol Blue Card, it allows users to travel unlimited on Dubai public transport for a period of 30 calendar days from the effective date.

The 90 Day Pass: Available only on a Nol Blue Card, it allows users to benefit from unlimited journeys on Dubai public transport for a period of 90 calendar days from the effective date .

The 365 Day Pass: Available only on a Nol Blue Card, it allows users to travel unlimited on Dubai public transport for a period of 365 calendar days from the effective date.

These unlimited passes are valid for travel on the metro, bus and tram; they are available for single zone, dual zone or all zone trips.

Travel zones must be defined when purchasing the Unlimited Pass on the NOL Card, therefore Pass prices depend on the number of travel zones defined at the time of purchase.

Unlimited transport pass prices RTA Nol Card

Which nol card for a stay in dubai.

To find out which ticket would be best suited for your stay in Dubai, you need to determine the number of times you will be using public transport and the number of areas you will be visiting.

If you are in Dubai in transit for a few hours or a day only, you have the choice between a Nol Red Ticket with 10 journeys or 5 passes or a Nol Red Ticket Pass 1 day unlimited transport which is much more interesting in my opinion.

If you are in Dubai for more than a day and less than a week, then I recommend that you take a Nol Silver Card or a NOL gold card.

On the other hand, if you are in Dubai for a stay of five days or more, it would be better to obtain an unlimited 7-day Pass on the Nol Silver Card or Nol gold Card.

dubai 7 day travel pass

Found this looking for details on the limits of silver nol unlimited week pass.

Does the all zones week unlimited pass include the water bus from the palm atlantis? I know I can pay with a nol card on the waterbus but I’m looking for if the unlimited zones 7 day pass also covers the water bus between the atlantis and marina?

dubai 7 day travel pass

I am honestly not sure. I did some research myself and it doesn’t say. Part of me thinks it does – but then on the NOL website the water bus is mentioned separately from busses and metro and you cannot transfer onto the water bus. You can find some information here => https://www.rta.ae/wps/portal/rta/ae/public-transport/Nol-Fares They also have chatbot called Mahboub that might be able to help. If not you can always ask at the people selling tickets. I always find them very helpful and knowledgeable.

Dubai Metro Information

Information about the Dubai Metro

Dubai Metro Tickets

Dubai Metro tickets must be purchased in the form of a Nol card. No other payment form is possible for the Metro. A Nol card is like a credit card that holds either a balance or a specific season ticket for travelling on a lot of the public transport in Dubai including the Metro, buses and the tram.

dubai metro tickets - silver nol card

No Cash Payments

You cannot pay by cash or credit card to travel on the Dubai Metro, you need to buy a Nol card. However, you can top your Nol card up using cash or credit card at each of the stations.

The prices for travel on the Dubai Metro, Tram and Buses are as follows:

You can work out how many zones you will travel through by checking out the Metro Map . Prices apply to the number of zones and do not take account of the actual zone numbers.

Standard tickets are those purchased by buying a red Nol card so are likely to be those charged to tourists or visitors. Pre-paid means where you have purchased a Silver, Blue or Gold Nol card.

Concessionary Nol cards are available to students, disabled and elderly people on registration and application. Standard Blue Nol cards have benefits including the purchase of season tickets.

Season Tickets

New season ticket passes were introduced with the opening of the Dubai Tram in 2014 and the prices are as follows:

Metro One Day Pass or Not?

You should work out how many journeys you are likely to make in one day as a one day pass may be better. The one day pass also includes travel on the Dubai Tram  and Dubai buses.

If you do not purchase a one day ticket you can still get charged more than 20 dirhams if you make a lot of journeys as travel is not capped at 20 dirhams unless you buy the one day ticket. You can find out more details about the One Day pass here .

The above tickets can only be purchased on particular Nol cards:

You can get the one day card on a Red ticket. You can get the weekly ticket on a Blue, Silver or Gold Nol card.

You can charge the Red ticket with up to 5 one day tickets – you need to buy each ticket on the day of travel and not in advance and it is only valid up until midnight of the day of purchase.

The remaining season tickets can only be purchased on a Blue Nol Card or a registered Silver or Gold Nol card.  Blue cards require an application form with ID and photo.

Therefore if you are travelling to Dubai as a visitor your only options for a season ticket are the day or weekly passes.

Those ticket prices are invalid, or I’m getting something wrong… I’m travelling between Discovery Gardens and EXPO 2020 which is in the same zone, but I’m keep being charged with AED7.5…

' src=

Hi, 7.5 dirhams is the maximum single fare and it is also charged when you don’t tap in and out correctly. If you think you are tapping correctly then you need to speak to customer services.

If i travel from emirates metro station to union, then how many zones are there & how much will it cost for 15 days with silver nol card pass?

HI, unfortunately we can’t calculate costs for individuals. All the information needed is on the site mostly on the map and tickets pages as well as this page.

I am planning a trip to Dubai in month of April for 6N/7D. If I purchased Gold Class Metro 7 day pass which is AED 220, is it cheaper? These are my excursions would be, Dubai Mall, Dubai Marina Mall & Yacht club, Dubai Fountain, Burj Khalifa, Old Dubai tour, Wild Wadi, Palm Jumeirah etc

You will need to work out the journey prices and see if that is less than the cost of the 7 day ticket. Sorry, we are not able to do this for you. Check out this page for more info.

I will be in Dubai for 3 days in 2 weeks. My zones gonna be 5-6-2-1, which tickles I need to buy?

Hi, we can’t advise which tickets as we don’t know which journeys you will take so check out this page.

' src=

Can I use Red nol card with one day pass to take traditional abra ?

Hi, no the abra fares are separate at present but it only costs 1 dirham for example if you want to cross the creek.

' src=

I’m thinking of buing silver NOL card. I will be traveling with wife and 2 kids (8years and 4 years) I’ve see that the 4 year kid can travel free of charge.

If i will be toping up the silver NOL card with weekly ticket does it use the balance from the card and instead of paying 80 (for 2 zones) i use 19 from the card and pay additional 61 ?

Hi, as we understand it, you will need to top up your Nol card with enough money to buy your weekly ticket and also have a minimum balance of 7.50 dirhams.

' src=

I was in Dubai during the period from 4.1.2024 to 10.01.2024, first bought NOL silver and then immediately i bought 7 days NOL silver pass for 7 days for all zones…. its comes to 135 AED… How will I get my journey with cost ?

NOL card still showing 19 AED balance, till what period this balance is valid?

Sorry I don’t understand “How will I get my journey with cost?” Silver Nol cards are valid for 5 years

Hello, I will be in Dubai for only 2 days and a half: December 24th, 25th and 26th morning. If I buy the daily ticket on the red card I will be allowed to travel all metro long without consider zones, won’t be? So I can buy on the same red card daily pass for 24, daily pass for 25th and the single ticket hotel>airport T3 for the last day?

Hi Carlo, yes if you buy a one day ticket on the red nol then you can travel on all zones. So yes you can get a daily pass on the red Nol on 24th and 25th but then will need a separate red nol card for the single journey on 26th.

' src=

If I have 7 days pass on my silver nol card within only zone 1 and I want to travel from zone 1 to zone 2 then will I be charged with 5 dirhams or only the difference 5-3=2 dirhams?

We don’t have that specific information – you will need to contact the RTA to ask this.

' src=

Hello, we want to buy a 7-day travel pass for zones 2 and 6. We have a few questions. 1) do we get a card with a travel card for 80 dirhams, or do we need to pay extra for the card separately? 2) If we want to use this card to travel to other zones, will we be able to top it up and pay with it like a red card? 3) During the trip to zones 2 and 6, is it necessary to have some kind of balance on the card.

1) You will need to buy a silver Nol card – see Nol Cards for further info – you can add the weekly ticket to that card 2) Yes you can add money to that card for trips out of the 2 zones (plus it already includes a credit) 3) If you have the weekly ticket on that card then you can travel in those 2 zones freely without a balance, otherwise you will need 7.50 dirhams

' src=

Hello there, I will be visiting Dubai soon, My Queries are 1) Can I but a 1 zone weekly pass and add some extra money on the same card for other extra travel like paying for bus or ferry, paying for bus to Abu Dhabi, Global village and Miracle garden, paying park entry fee or others like that 2) Do a foreign student also get 50% discount on metro ticket

Hi, yes you can add extra money onto the Nol card that you put your weekly pass on. That would enable to pay for bus trips that are not included in the weekly ticket like to Abu Dhabi. In terms of entry fees you would have to check with the attractions themselves whether they take payment by nol as we don’t have a list, sorry.

Sorry, 2) you can only get the 50% discount with a blue nol card. In theory you should be able to get this as an overseas student but in practice it may be difficult as it does ask for an Emirates ID when you apply so you may have to go to an RTA office to try and get hold of one.

' src=

Hi! I’m hoping you can help with my very vague question! We visited a few years ago and I’m sure we bought daily passes. This was fine until we wanted to go to Global Village and were told our passes could be used to get out there (I seem to recall they said we needed a weekly pass to cover that area?). Does that sound correct and if so, so you happen to know the rule please? I’m particularly concerned as we will be staying in Jumeirah Village Circle so I need to be sure the pass will cover buses out there. Many, many thanks for your help, Helen

Hi, Global Village does not come within the public transport zones so your one day passes wouldn’t have covered that area (this may change in future) but Jumeirah Village Triangle is on a bus route that is covered by the one day ticket so you should be fine.

Thank you. Is transport to Global Village included if we get a weekly pass? On the website it says routes 102, 103, 104 and 106 all go there? Also I assume I am able to buy a weekly pass from the airport station? Many thanks for your help, it’s genuinely appreciated.

No, it isn’t included in the weekly ticket – I believe it is 10 dirhams each way. Yes you should be able to get a weekly ticket from the airport – terminals 1 and 3 have metro stations attached.

Thank you for your help 🙂

' src=

Hi, I have several questions. 1. Can I buy a day pass on a silver NOL card or only pay by trip or week pass? 2. If I buy a silver NOL card and go 1 zone one day, can I use the same card to go 2 zones the next assuming I have enough money loaded on the card? 3. If I buy a day pass on a red NOL card one day can I buy a ticket for 1 zone on the same card the next day or do I need to buy a different red card for each number of zones I want to travel (e.g. one card for 2 zone travel, a different card for 1 zone travel, a third card for a day pass, etc.)

Hi, here are the answers to the best of our knowledge: 1. No, you can only buy a day pass on a red Nol card. 2. Yes 3. You need to buy a different Nol card for different types of journeys so yes, your example is correct. In this case it may be better to buy a silver Nol card.

Is Dubai Pass Worth It? How You Can Save on Dubai’s Top Tourist Attractions

There’s no denying Dubai CAN be an expensive city to visit if you don’t plan out your expenditure carefully.

One of the top investments newcomers can make on their first trip to Dubai is getting their hands on the Dubai Pass to save on top attractions across the city.

On this page, we’re going to run you through all the different types of Dubai Pass , and how the Dubai Pass by iVenture can really help you save on a Dubai trip.

This guide has been updated as of March 2022 for the latest offerings and attraction openings.

How does the Dubai Pass Work?

What dubai attractions are included in dubai pass, how many days do i need a dubai pass for, dubai select attraction pass, dubai flexi attraction pass, dubai unlimited, dubai theme park pass, where do i collect my dubai pass from, is the dubai pass value for money, other attraction pass options in dubai..

OK – there’s a little bit of pre-planning and maths needed to calculate the value you will get, but stick with us as we explain your options!

We suggest you get a pen and paper out and jot your options down as it can get complicated;

Whatever Dubai Pass you select allows you to select a certain number of activities from each category or a defined list.  So you need to:

  • Decide what attractions do I REALLY want to see?
  • How many sightseeing & activity days do I have while I’m in Dubai? (You may want to allow time for day trips outside of Dubai, for example to the capital Abu Dhabi , or build in some complete rest days)
  • Purchase tickets online & set up an online account with iVenture
  • Physically collect the tickets from a Dubai collection point

Let’s go through each of these steps in detail.

The Dubai Pass covers a huge range of Dubai’s most popular attractions (and makes for a great checklist of exactly what there is to see and do in Dubai).

In most ticket categories, you must select between either attractions classed into different pools, or for a smaller list of included attractions – we explain exactly what’s currently included below!

You can find a detailed guide to all of Dubai’s major tourist attractions here .

Listings are correct per iVenture March 2022, Check the current listing here .

You then need to select how many days you want your ticket to last. Once activated, the days must run consecutively, ie a 7-day pass must be used within one week of being activated, you can not use 7 days over 2 weeks for example.

You have 6 months from purchasing your Dubai Pass to then activate it.

How much does the Dubai Pass cost?

The all-important question – what does the Dubai Pass cost, and realistically, how much will you save? Is it really 60%?  If you take full advantage of all the attractions, then YES.

The card categories are (Adult/Child price):

  • Dubai Select Attraction Pass (AED 469/439)
  • Dubai Flexi Attraction Pass (from AED 499/469)
  • Dubai Unlimited Pass (from AED 1299/1229)
  • Dubai Theme Park Pass (from AED 469)

Let’s look at each in more detail here:

Note that children under 3 are FREE.  There is a discounted rate for children aged 3 to 12 years old. Prices correct per iVenture March 2022.

This is the Dubai Pass that lets you see three top attractions over the space of a week, but each attraction must come from a different pool 1, 2 & 3 as set out in the attractions list here:

The notable absentees from this list are the theme parks – Wild Wadi and IMG Worlds of Adventure are included, but Atlantis and the four parks at Dubai Parks & Resorts can now ONLY be found on the Dubai Theme Parks Pass – see below.

Those marked * mean they are bookable tours; once you’ve purchased your Dubai Pass you’ll need to book an exact time for these, and spaces could be limited for your dates. For all others you can simply turn up and present your pass on your phone or paper ticket.

This one costs slightly more than the Dubai Select Pass, but as then the name suggests gives you more flexibility. You can still choose a 3-attraction option, but they can be from the same pool. Or you can make it a 5 or 7 attraction pass (by the time you hit 7 though, look into Dubai Unlimited for better value)

See also the Dubai Theme Park Pass might be a good fit.

This is where you will get the best savings as it’s open to all attractions. You have only 3 to 5 days to use it, but you can squeeze multiple attractions into one day (only conditions, no repeats allowed, and must be at least one hour between redeeming each attraction).

In total there are 35 attractions included at present which can add up to some whopping big savings over the space of 5 days.

Does what it says on the tin! For your theme park buffs out there, this is a specialised ticket for water parks and theme parks allowing you a few flexible options to choose from – you can choose from a 3 or 5 park pass option out of:

  • Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis
  • IMG Worlds of Adventure
  • Wild Wadi Waterpark™
  • Laguna Waterpark
  • Dubai Parks & Resorts 1 day, 2 Park Pass (Uses 2 passes – covers MOTIONGATE™ Dubai, LEGOLAND ®  Dubai & LEGOLAND ®  Water Park; NB BOLLYWOOD PARKS™ Dubai has closed permanently.)

You have 5 consecutive days to use the 3 park pass or 7 consecutive days to use the 5 park pass – each park pass is only redeemable once.

NB there’s no child discount on the Dubai Theme Park Pass.

We note that after being absent from this ticket last year IMG Worlds of Adventure and Aquaventure at Atlantis the Palm are back on the Theme Park Pass!

Still confused by which attractions you are getting the best value for? Pop on over to the Dubai attractions section of our website for detailed reviews of the top tourist attractions in Dubai.

Next Step – Registering your card & booking times

Once you’ve completed your purchase, you will then be asked to register your card, this then allows you access to pre-book any activities that have specific time slots before you arrive.

Boat tours, city tours, and desert safari activities need booking in advance for timed slots.

If you would like a physical card, there are two collection points in Dubai’s major shopping malls which are easily accessible by the Metro or by Taxi at:

  • Dubai Mall – City Sightseeing Counter
  • Mall of the Emirates – City Sightseeing Counter (this venue looks to now be closed – please check with iVenture)

You’ll need a photo ID to collect. Once you reach your attraction, you present the physical card for entry (one per person in your group).  At some venues, this will allow skip-the-line entry, but not all.

They have now introduced iPass which eliminates the need to go and collect a physical ticket if you are happy to use your phone for everything (you will need data/wifi).

If this is your first trip to Dubai and you are here for the action and family adventures then absolutely, you will get plenty of value for a Dubai Pass.

The fact they have finally moved to an online ticket, not requiring physical collection is a huge plus.

However, the need to buy a separate theme park pass now for many of the most popular family attractions has really reduced the overall value of this ticket, while the price has significantly risen in 2022; plenty of new lower value Pool C attractions added but not Pool A.

Convinced yet?  Click here to save now

For a long time, the Dubai Pass stood with little competition in the multi-attraction ticket market in Dubai, but there’s now a very good (if not better!) competing product, Go City Dubai .

Go City Dubai comes in 2 ticket types:

  • All-Inclusive Pass   – see as many attractions as you can in 2, 3, 4, 5 or 7 Days (from 1,149 AED/999 AED)
  • An  Explorer Pass  for 3, 4, 5 or 7 attractions that gives you more time to redeem selected attractions over 2 months (from 669 AED/549 AED)

Operating with a slightly simpler system, no “pools”, simply select the number of attractions you want to see with the Explorer (with 60 days to redeem) or unlimited entry to close to 40 attractions with the all-inclusive (valid for 14 days, no need for consecutive days).

Go City Dubai – despite its name – also includes many Abu Dhabi attractions making it an appealing option if you’ll be splitting your time between the two UAE cities.

Both the Dubai Pass and Go City have their pros and cons so read the fine print carefully to determine which you’ll get more value from.

The Entertainer Tourist UAE is another good option to consider, especially if you’re travelling in a group. It doesn’t include ALL the top attractions – but quite a few – all in 2-4-1 deals, including a huge range of dining venues in addition to attractions. The new tourist product only costs about 200 AED and can prove excellent value for short-term visitors with a month to redeem.

If you’re only in Dubai for a very short period of time and only want to see the absolute highlights, we’d also suggest you look at the Tiqets Dubai Digital Pass – essentially a Burj Khalifa/Desert Safari combo ticket with a few perks thrown in.

The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That’s before crude oil was discovered in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States.

Rain also fell in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, but was acute across the UAE.

The flooding sparked speculation that cloud seeding — flying small planes through clouds dispersing chemicals aimed at getting rain to fall — may have contributed to the deluge. But experts said the storm systems that produced the rain were forecast well in advance and that cloud seeding alone would not have caused such flooding.

Several reports quoted meteorologists at the National Center for Meteorology as saying they flew six or seven cloud-seeding flights before the rains. Flight-tracking data analyzed by The Associated Press showed one aircraft affiliated with the UAE’s cloud-seeding efforts flew around the country Monday.

The National, an English-language, state-linked newspaper in Abu Dhabi, quoted an anonymous official at the center on Wednesday as saying no cloud seeding took place on Tuesday, without acknowledging any earlier flights.

The center did not respond to questions Wednesday from the AP.

The UAE, which heavily relies on energy-hungry desalination plants to provide water, conducts cloud seeding in part to increase its dwindling, limited groundwater .

Jeff Masters, a meteorologist for Yale Climate Connections, said the flooding in Dubai was caused by an unusually strong low pressure system that drove many rounds of heavy thunderstorms.

“You don’t need cloud seeding’s influence to account for the record deluge in Dubai,” Masters said.

Another expert, Steven Siems of Australia’s Monash University, agreed.

Given the size of the storm, any seeding effort would simply be pointless,” he said. “Nature is already doing the job perfectly well.”

Scientists also say climate change in general is responsible for more intense and more frequent extreme storms, droughts, floods and wildfires around the world. Dubai hosted the United Nations’ COP28 climate talks just last year. Rising temperatures and other effects of global warming long have been viewed as a threat to life in the already-baking region.

The rains began late Monday, soaking the sands and roadways of Dubai with some 20 millimeters (0.79 inches) of rain, according to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport. The storms intensified around 9 a.m. Tuesday and continued throughout the day, dumping more rain and hail onto the overwhelmed city.

By the end of Tuesday, more than 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rainfall had soaked Dubai over 24 hours. An average year sees 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) of rain at Dubai International Airport.

Standing water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. Arrivals were halted Tuesday night, and passengers struggled to reach terminals through water-covered roads.

One couple, who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity to speak freely in a country with strict laws that criminalize critical speech, called the situation at the airport “absolute carnage.”

“You cannot get a taxi. There’s people sleeping in the Metro station. There’s people sleeping in the airport,” the man said Wednesday.

Dubai International Airport acknowledged Wednesday morning that the flooding had left “limited transportation options” and affected flights as aircraft crews couldn’t reach the airfield.

“Recovery will take some time,” the airport said on the social platform X.

Long-haul carrier Emirates and FlyDubai, its low-cost sister airline, had major disruptions.

Paul Griffiths, the airport’s CEO, acknowledged continued issues with flooding Wednesday morning, saying every place an aircraft could be safely parked was taken. Some aircraft had been diverted to Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central, the city-state’s second airfield.

“It remains an incredibly challenging time. In living memory, I don’t think anyone has ever seen conditions like it,” Griffiths told the state-owned talk radio station Dubai Eye. “We are in uncharted territory.”

Egypt’s national carrier, EgyptAir, also temporarily suspended flights between Cairo and Dubai due to the bad weather.

Schools across the UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms, largely shut ahead of the storm and government employees were largely working remotely if able. Many workers stayed home as well, though some ventured out, with the unfortunate stalling out their vehicles in deeper-than-expected water covering spots on some roads. That included parts of the Sheikh Zayed Road, a 12-lane highway through downtown Dubai.

Authorities sent tanker trucks out into the streets and highways to pump away the water. Water poured into some homes, forcing people to bail out their houses.

The country’s hereditary rulers offered no overall damage or injury information for the nation, as some slept in their flooded vehicles Tuesday night. In Ras al-Khaimah, the country’s northernmost emirate, police said one 70-year-old man died when his vehicle was swept away by floodwater.

Khatm al-Shakla, an area near Al Ain in Abu Dhabi, saw 254 millimeters (10 inches) of rain Tuesday, the most anywhere in the country, officials said.

Authorities canceled school and the government instituted remote work again for Wednesday. Dubai later closed schools for the rest of the week.

Rain is unusual in the UAE, an arid, Arabian Peninsula nation, but occurs periodically during the cooler winter months. Many roads and other areas lack drainage given the lack of regular rainfall, causing flooding.

Meanwhile in neighboring Oman, a sultanate that rests on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, at least 19 people were killed in heavy rains in recent days, according to a statement Wednesday from the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management. That includes some 10 schoolchildren swept away in a vehicle with an adult, which saw condolences come into the country from rulers across the region.
