Her debut album arrives next month

Girl In Red has announced details of a UK and European tour for 2022. Check out dates and ticket details below.

The  NME 100 alumni  and  previous Big Read cover star returned with the huge Finneas-produced new single ‘Serotonin ‘ earlier this month, along with  details of her hotly anticipated debut album ‘If I Could Make It Go Quiet’. Now, the Norwegian phenomenon has announced that she’ll be taking the record on the road next year.

Having already shared shared  the epic ‘Rue’  and  ‘Midnight Love’ from the album, ‘If I Could Make It Go Quiet’ will be released on April 30.

“A lot of [the album] is me saying, ‘I need to stop this shit, I’ve figured out what I’m doing and I know what’s not helping me to be a happy person’,”  Ulven told  NME  back in December . “There are a lot of those moments on the album. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but that doesn’t mean that there’s a long way to go. I know what I’m dealing with, but it’s about doing the hard work.

“That’s what I’m talking about in [recent single] ‘Rue’ – trying to get better and wanting to get better. It’s not talked about enough, you know, how hard it is to work on yourself. Self-care is about how you treat yourself. I definitely have a voice inside telling me that I suck and I hate myself, and I’m definitely confronting myself on this album.”

Recent years have seen Girl In Red release a string of singles and EPs – with ‘Chapter One’ and ‘Chapter Two’ collected together and released on vinyl as the ‘Beginnings’ compilation in 2019. Back in December, she released the  one-off Christmas single ‘Two Queens In A King-sized Bed ‘.

girl in red  will be returning to the UK with her ‘DOING IT AGAIN’   tour. 

The alternative pop artist from Oslo, born Marie Ulven, is continuing her path to global stardom, kicking off 2024 with a bang. In February, she announced that she would release her debut album for Columbia Records. Titled I’M DOING IT AGAIN BABY!  the album will release in Spring 2024, followed by a tour across North America and the UK.

girl in red first gained recognition and captured the hearts of audiences when she released her critically acclaimed debut album  if i could make it go quiet  in 2021. Critics and fans alike embraced her honest songwriting, disarming personality, powerful live performances, and musicianship. Celebrity supporters included Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish; press response was astoundingly positive, with several outlets proclaiming the album and “Serotonin”- the breakout track - a “Best of 2021”   including but not limited to Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety, NPR, Stereogum, NYLON  and more. Girl in Red Is Ready for Her Superstar Era

M arie Ulven is not a chill person. Over the course of lunch at a slick New York spot packed with women in expensive-looking black athleisure, she swings between aping Taylor Swift ’s arm flex on “The Man” from the Eras Tour — a move that Ulven, who opened for a few of those dates last summer, knows all about — and clutching her chest, breathless. “I’m just trying to deal with my anxiety when it comes,” she says. “Right now, my heart really hurts.” 

Ulven, 25, has pretty much always taken music seriously — she’s a true workhorse, like those superstars. The Oslo resident started writing songs when she was eight, playing guitar at 14, and has been producing her own music for a decade. After uploading her first song, the sad-and-sweet “I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend,” to YouTube in 2018, things started moving very fast for the then-teen. She dropped two EPs in 2018 and 2019, followed by her debut album, If I Could Make It Go Quiet, in 2021. A poppy therapy session of a record that dealt with everything from macabre intrusive thoughts to the indignity of being a fuck buddy, the LP cemented Ulven’s place in a weird-girl pop canon that includes the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Gayle. She’s relatable, but not cliché.

In the end, Ulven went back to the studio when she was ready — when she had her fill of experiences to translate into music. “I’m inspired by paper and folders and fonts and light,” she says, crunching into a crouton. “I’m inspired by espressos and traveling and trains. I’m inspired by waiters having etiquette. How he pours wine very nicely and lets you smell it first. I’m inspired by absolutely everything.”

Opener “I’m Back” creeps in almost bashfully, with Ulven proclaiming: “I’m back, I feel like myself/I was gone for a minute/’Cause I went to get help.” The switch flips with “Doing It Again Baby,” a bombastic strut of a song, and the first one she wrote for the record after compulsively picking out the melody during soundchecks. “That song is about feeling like I have so much self-esteem that I feel like I’m a cocky-ass bitch walking down the streets with my sunglasses on,” she says. 

Still, the bravado isn’t a constant — single “Too Much” is about being just that (her mom was always telling her to quiet down), while tracks like “Phantom Pain” and “Pick Me” remind us that Ulven wasn’t always so lucky in love. Sabrina Carpenter does help her go scorched-earth on an ex, though, on “You Need Me Now.” The two singers both gained big new audiences last year as openers on separate legs of Swift’s Eras Tour, but they’ve been friends since around 2022 — Ulven says they formed a mutual-appreciation society in each other’s DMs before she asked Carpenter to guest on the dark rocker of a track for her new album. 

“When she reached out to me, it felt like a no-brainer and I was immediately drawn to the record,” Carpenter says. “It was exciting to make because it pushed me into new sonic territory.”

Ulven is perhaps most herself on the ominous, echoey “Ugly Side,” in which she grapples with feeling like Jeykll and Hyde — torn between being “cute” and “lovable” and “boiling inside.”

“I have these incredible highs, and then I have these very low lows,” Ulven says as the waiter whisks away our plates. “Maybe that’s good. I don’t want to be just one thing. I don’t want to be just this confident person who never doubts themselves. I think doubt can be great as much as it can be very paralyzing.” 

She pauses for a moment. “Yeah. I just need to chill the fuck out.… I think that’s exactly what I need to do.” There’s a first time for everything.

Girl in red has been a favourite artist of mine for about a year now and when I first heard of this tour, immediately I bought two tickets as soon as it came out. Set in Camden the venue was the perfect size for the atmosphere although a few people ended up injured (which surely happens everywhere). The supporting act, Isaac Dunbar, showed real charisma and confidence for a 16 year old and managed to tear up the crowd for the main event. Whilst doors opened at 7 girl in red didn’t actually start to perform until 9. But it was definitely worth the wait with very few technical difficulties and a booming atmosphere. There was a 10 (ish) minute wait as someone had lost their passport which she read out and gave back to its owner. Overall I highly recommend this singer and the tour as it has probably been my favourite concert to date and I am excited to see her grow even more as an artist.

This show was amazing but maybe a little short... I was front row and I was very close to the artists on stage which was so cool. The crowd was also super small so it made it look more chill! But sometimes everyone was jumping and screaming so loud and it really felt like a big show because of how loud we were. I'm happy that we could make Marie smile that much, she seemed so happy even though she had some technology issues. She had to entertain us A LOT of the time and she was so funny! I was feeling down sometimes because I was almost passing out but at every song she was making me forget all of these health issues:) I probably feel like it was short cause she quite talked more than she sang and I loved her performances more but I still enjoyed every part of it. I gave her a letter and she was so friendly to everyone. Her musicians were also sick! Everything was so worthy!

Marie is AMAZING in concert! Her voice is beautiful, the guitar work is phenomenal, and she doesn't shy away from dancing around the stage to her heart's content. She took the time to really connect to the audience through banter and commentary, telling stories and making us laugh. She crowd-surfed towards the end of the concert, grabbing onto something hanging down from the ceiling and climbing around like she was on monkey bars or something. It was a wild sight to see! Additionally, I felt so welcomed in the room both by the kind audience members and by Marie herself. I'm really glad I got to experience this concert and if you get the chance to see this sweetheart perform live, TAKE IT!

The concert was intimate and damn incredible

The energy given away was huge, the crowd was amazing too. I have to say it's one of my best concerts, and I've been to a lot!

Marie is adorable, it's the first time I see an artist seem so honest talking about, what I would consider really personal shit.

marie's shows are absolutely AMAZING. i was lucky enough to see her in amsterdam may 4th 2019 in de melkweg upstairs. i've been to many concerts but this one was so unique, the energy that she and her band give is insane. it was worth it for sure to wait outside for 4 hours in the rain, just to be front row. would 100% recommend

The concert was honestly amazing. Only bad part was the person at the merch stand. She was giving everyone attitude. I was a bit upset that there was only one shirt that had xl. Other than that it was amazing and I had a lovely time meeting her.

I wish I could go see her. Sadly I'm in Florida and don't have time to make a trip to New York because of school. I hope I can see her next time though. Her music has helped me through so much this past year.

Fucking amazing. Beutiful songs. Amazing atmosphere and vibe. Marie is the sweetest person idec. Its a night I will never forget. <3 The only bad thing about that night was the fact it had to end.

Girl In Red will bring her Doing It Again Tour to the UK and Europe this summer. Girl In Red tickets go on sale at 10am local time today.

The rising Norwegian alt-pop trailblazer has lined up shows at Dublin's 3Arena, Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom, Manchester's O2 Apollo and London's OVO Arena Wembley between August 27 and September 3.

She'll then head to Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Barcelona, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo and Helsinki between September 5 and October 5. 

The North American leg of the tour will kick off on April 16 in Boston and run through to early June. Tickets for those dates are already on sale.

Girl In Red will hit the road in support of her forthcoming sophomore album, 'I'm Doing It Again Baby!', which is due out on April 12 via Columbia Records. She previously teased the record with the single Too Much, and has now shared the title track, which you can check out below.

Kristen Stewart Uses Naked Dressing to Make a Point

Her press tour for “Love Lies Bleeding” was something to see.

Even in the context of the current pantsless trend prevalent on the runway and in some celebrity circles, as well as the vogue for thematic dressing at movie openings, Kristen Stewart’s looks during her press tour for “ Love Lies Bleeding ” have stood out. Rarely has an actress been so unapologetically, gloriously undressed.

Ms. Stewart and her stylist, Tara Swennen, have taken the film’s carnality and covert politics and translated them for the promotional panopticon, forcing anybody watching to confront their own preconceptions about women’s bodies, their sexuality and exactly what empowerment means, while at the same time undermining the whole circus of branded celebrity dressing.

That’s a lot of subtext under very little — clothing, that is. But it was adroitly managed and awfully entertaining to see.

Margot Robbie had fun dressing à la Barbie during her “Barbie” press tour ; Zendaya captured eyeballs and social media during her “Dune: Part Two” camera calls dressed in sci-fi-themed Mugler, Givenchy and Alaïa; and the cast of “Godzilla Minus One” walked the Oscar red carpet in matching lizard-heel footwear. But with her “Love Lies Bleeding” appearances, Ms. Stewart took the concept of character cosplay to a new, more pointed level.

It started in Berlin back in February, when Ms. Stewart shed her shirt for the film’s European premiere, wearing a very short Chanel couture patchwork miniskirt, matching blazer and knit bralet. (She is a Chanel ambassador.) She raised the ante with a controversial Rolling Stone cover in which she wore only a Nike tank top and a jockstrap.

And when she showed up for the film’s Los Angeles premiere in only a “skirts, who needs ’em?” Bettter bodysuit, cut very high on the thigh, with sheer black tights, a black blazer and black stilettos, it was clear that such choices were not mere flukes but a conscious strategy.

As it happens, the motto of Bettter, a label that repurposes men’s suiting for women, is “empower rather than overpower.” Which, given the movie being celebrated, a queer film noir set in a small town in 1980s New Mexico and, as one reviewer wrote, a “ deconstruction of cinematic hypermasculinity ,” is pretty much on the nose.

It was when the promotional juggernaut reached New York, though, that Ms. Stewart really showed her hand. As well as other body parts, in an abbreviated black mini worn with a mesh bra, garter belt-’n’-stockings and a leather blazer for “Late Night With Seth Meyers” and a sheer Monot draped chain halter for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” Paparazzi caught her exiting her building in tiny cream-colored knit hot pants and a bra worn under a khaki shirt, with stilettos, and then in athletic Chanel micro shorts and matching leg warmers. Again with heels.

The clothes were like a dare to the watching world, a refusal to cater to pretty-girls-in-pretty-dresses gender expectations and a good-natured riposte to the idea that provocation is an invitation. An “I see your judgment and raise you one” piece of fashion politics.

In so orchestrating her outfits, Ms. Stewart, who looked as if she was enjoying herself quite a lot, thank you, demonstrated just how much can be said on the pseudo red carpet even without an E! host asking the point of what she was wearing. You really couldn’t miss her point. After all, she wasn’t exactly covering it up.

Yesterday, Glass Animals announced details of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, I Love You So F***ing Much , set for release on July 19th . The album is introduced by the band’s new single, “ Creatures in Heaven ,” out now—listen HERE and watch the visualizer HERE .

I Love You So F***ing Much is the follow-up to 2020’s critically revered Dreamland , which sold over 12 million copies globally and gave life to “ Heat Waves ,” the record-breaking song that became the biggest international hit from a British band in almost 30 years . It was the first song by a British band since the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” in 1995 to claim #1 for five consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 , and the first song to reach #1 with a single writer and producer since Pharell’s “Happy” —leading to the pop world’s biggest acts, including Florence Welch , all wanting to work with Glass Animals frontman, songwriter, and producer, Dave Bayley . But the birth of I Love You So F***ing Much was an existential crisis. Dave found himself struggling to make sense of this newfound global stardom, having watched it all happen while the world was in lockdown.

  He says, “Life can change dramatically, but sometimes you aren’t able to change as quickly on a personal level. You end up feeling like a spectator. And then you are asked and expected to be a certain type of person, a different person. But…I wasn’t sure how. It confused me to the point of not knowing who I was or if anything was real.” It took being stranded on a cliff in a wooden house on stilts during one of California’s biggest storms in history to push that feeling into a full existential crisis. In forced isolation, watching trees tumble down mountains and assuming “death was coming,” Dave began asking questions of himself, of the universe, and of the human experience: namely, love. As he came to accept himself as an introvert, Dave realized that “human connection and the love between us is much bigger, more important, and more complex than anything else” . “Creatures in Heaven” is the sublime first glimpse into ten intimate love stories set against the backdrop of the universe.
