Junior: I have been a student at Christ Church for 12 years and it is a great place. I have always enjoyed my experiences at the school and feel very comfortable among my fellow students and teachers. I compete on multiple sports teams and am a part of many clubs and I truly believe that there is a team, club, or activity for every student at the school. The teachers and faculty care about each individual student and promote curiosity, willingness to take risks, and the core values of character, community, excellence, and service. ... Read 70 reviews

Parent: Highly recommend! Excellent preparation for college and graduates are attending prestigious universities across the nation.— Excellent academics at all levels with an emphasis on character education and community service. From their youngest years my children were learning at their own pace with hands on materials. This allowed them to learn advanced math in preschool while building their independence. Now in high school, they have science teachers who also teach at the university. The teachers provide a wonderful environment for students to work together, developing empathy and volunteering with Meals on Wheels and other local service organizations. In this safe environment, students are able to focus on academics and develop confidence that prepares them for life. ... Read 6 reviews

Spartanburg Day School
Spartanburg, SC •
- • Rating 4.59 out of 5 41 reviews
Senior: The school is small so social interaction can feel limiting sometimes since you either get along with the people around you or don't, cliques are very prominent. Academically, the school has a very strong science program and a variety of AP classes, English is a strong another strong subject as well as history which also offer a variety of AP choices; however, I feel like the math program struggles, especially in the middle school which in part due to the block schedule. In fact, the block schedule greatly limits class time for time sensitive classes such as AP Chemistry or AP Calculus that have a lot of material to cover with limited time. Despite the restrictive schedule, teachers are always happy to help and are extremely approachable, so getting their help with certain topics has been super important for understanding the subject. Furthermore, athletics are mandatory which fills up teams, but lacks people who are passionate about sports. Arts program needs more funding. ... Read 41 reviews

Senior: My experience with Greenville High School has been somewhat limited, but in the time that I have spent here I’d say it’s been nice. For two years I was virtual and came to Greenville only for orchestra, so I have had to spend my other two years striving for the fullest experience. I think one thing I wish was different would be the school culture. Often times my school has put promoting diversity lower on the list of priorities, but I think that it is the responsibility of not only students, but administrators and teachers to encourage and promote a more diverse school. Greenville has a predominantly white population, but by making sure black culture, hispanic culture, and all forms of culture are seen as just as important. ... Read 232 reviews

Greer Middle College Charter High School
- • Rating 3.92 out of 5 166 reviews
Junior: Greer Middle College Charter High School offers students an excellent education and opportunities for experience. For example, seniors work at an internship or complete a project to meet graduation requirements. This opportunity gives students real-life experience, which sets them up for success in the future. GMC additionally lets students take in-person dual-enrollment classes at Greenville Technical College. The overall atmosphere of GMC is professional, and teachers express their passion for their careers. While GMC is an excellent school, the school needs some changes. The school recognizes most of its sports teams for achievements over announcements. However, I have been on the varsity tennis team for three years, and we have received very little promotion for our upcoming matches and recognition for accomplishments, which include being in the final four for states. ... Senior: Overall, I’ve enjoyed my experience at Brashier Middle College. Most of the teachers are nice and willing to help you outside of class and have a good grasp about what their teaching. Although there are exceptions to this, I’m sure the same is true everywhere. It’s a pretty small school so you’ll basically know everyone in your grade and then some. Riverside High School integrates families, alumni and staff as one big community where we can all work to make our school better, a place where all the students feel happy and supported. RHS operates and offers many clubs and sports where everyone can find its place. I always feel safe. I think Riverside High School should have more opportunities and programs for foreign students like me, This semester, I found out that there is a certification named 'The Seal if Biliteracy" which is an award given by the school district in recognition of students who have learn or speak more than two languages, it was hard for me to get information about it inside the school, finally two weeks ago I was able to take these tests in Spanish and French, these should be an opportunity offered to all students. ... Wade Hampton High School
- • Rating 3.87 out of 5 364 reviews
Senior: Although I might be a little biased, Wade Hampton High really is an incredible school. By senior year there is such a strong sense of community that is created between you and your classmates creating an overall friendly atmosphere. There is a lot of school pride, especially when it comes to our football team, the Generals, and our annual spirit week, which is the biggest week of the whole year to raise money for a local charity. Like every school, some classes are taught by dedicated and qualified teachers who create an environment where students are eager to learn whereas other classes are taught by teachers who often know less about the subject than their own students. The bathrooms at Wade Hampton are absolutely atrocious and one of the main problems; it looks like they are hardly ever cleaned, most stalls don’t even have door that have a lock, and there has not been soap since my freshman year. Fights between students are a regular occurrence, the record being 5 in one week. ... Read 364 reviews

Senior: The best part about being a student at TL Hanna was how nice and respectful the staff is. They WANT to see you succeed and they’re always willing to help you get there no matter what. The only thing I’d wish to see change is helping the kids that are struggling with classes more beyond the classroom, most of the time the problems stem from home and or social life and they just need someone to talk to or “vent” to, if teachers and administrators took that more into account I feel like this could be a better place but it’s still the best high school in the upstate I absolutely enjoyed my time here! Forever a Yellow Jacket! ... Read 426 reviews

Dorman High School

Senior: In regards to the benefits of attending Dorman High School, the AP and Honors programs are excellent for students who want to extend their education beyond high school and on behalf of the AP teachers I can say as a student that they work their hardest to see all of their students achieve at least a 3 on the exam but most students will get a 4 or a 5. In reference to the CP and advanced classes offered at Dorman I can't tell you much about the success or lack of success in those programs. The culture at Dorman is truly a culture success and if you allow yourself to trust your teachers you will become a very well rounded and proficient student. However, you did need to be cautious and proactive in attaining and scheduling your classes for each year because the guidance has led some students astray in the academic career. Overall, I can truly attest to the fact that Dorman does have a culture success and is interested in developing each student into bright and forward-thinking adults. ... Read 781 reviews

An African-American History of Downtown Greenville
As gentrification lets us forget, we remember.
- United States
- South Carolina
Greenville, South Carolina 29617, United States
Created By: Brandon Inabinet
Tour Information
My name is Jesse and I have lived in Greenville, South Carolina my entire life. Born in 1951 in Southernside, an area actually just north of downtown, I have watched Greenville transform from a segregated town to a lively city over the past seven decades. Greenville is truly an exciting place to be.
On the other hand, there's also a sense of loss. We've gone from a small (if divided) family to a place that's hard to recognize some days, with so many folks moving in and so many old things being knocked down and rebuilt.
I'll show you some of the sites important to the Black community. This history is my heritage, and it needs to be told. As an African-American young man growing up during the civil rights movement, I have personally seen the hardships our community has endured. Greenville has changed in many ways but like every one of us, it can always grow and learn from its past. Join me as we take a stroll through the Greenville I know and the Greenville we can become.
[This tour is given by a character named Jesse, an African-American man who has grown up in Greenville, South Carolina. Written by students at Furman University of various ages and races as part of a Communication Studies course, this unified point of view can help better introduce local insights historical sites in Greenville during the Civil Rights Movement. Tour takers may want to only visit 6-13 in the center of downtown, rather than the longer walks from site 1 (Sterling High School) into the city and beyond the city to the old library location and cemetery; or take a bicycle or car to the outlying places.]
What You'll See on the Tour
Sterling high school, working benevolent society hospital, jesse jackson's home, claussen bakery, allen temple church, blues on hammond street, courthouse: the lynchers' acquittal, black business district and train station, springfield baptist church, woolworth lunch counter, greenville county library, richland cemetery, leave a comment, download the app, download the pocketsights tour guide mobile app to take this self-guided tour on your gps-enabled mobile device..

‘We got this wrong’: Meta apologizes after AI feature spreads hoax school threats
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. ( WMBF /Gray News) - Police in South Carolina say they have responded to several bomb threats at a high school this week.
Horry County Schools and the Horry County Police Department said four bomb threats were made against Carolina Forest High School since Wednesday.
School officials said the calls were made while school was in session.
According to police, they did a sweep of the school when responding, and the threats were deemed a hoax.
On Friday, police updated their investigation stating that two students are facing charges in connection with making the threats.
The students were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.
Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is also admitting fault when it comes to its AI feature spreading misinformation about the bomb threats.
School officials said misinformation began to spread across Facebook through the platform’s new Meta AI feature.
Horry County police said the biggest threat to the school’s safety and security this week was misinformation.
Authorities said that some AI programs were sharing on social media that there was a real threat to safety at the school when that was not the case.
Meta released the following statement regarding the situation:
“While this is a new technology and may not always return the response we intend, we got this wrong and apologize for any confusion or anxiety that was caused.”
Police said the Thursday morning calls were traced back to an internet server in India, which was also linked to other recent school threats.
According to authorities, Wednesday’s threat was also deemed a hoax, but their investigation is continuing.
School officials said heightened security measures were in place at Carolina Forest High School to finish the school week.

"Royal Flush" features CHEAP TRICK as support on most of the North American leg, while SQUEEZE will open a handful of HEART 's summer European dates. Since HEART 's formation in the early 1970s, the band has sold 35 million albums, including seven that made the Top 10, and notched 20 Top 40 singles. The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013.
In a recent interview with Billlboard , < Ann and Nancy Wilson said that they were hoping to work on new music in the near future.
"The thing that we really hope to achieve is to maybe write some more stuff together," Ann said. "We don't have plans for that right now. We don't really plan too far in the future; we're not calculating like that. We're just gonna do this tour and see what comes. But I think if a song comes out of a situation, it'll be a real good one, 'cause it'll be authentic. It's just a matter of me and Nancy getting our heads around that."
Nancy said that she has been going through some of the HEART demos and listening to unreleased material with an eye toward possibly reworking it for future release. "There's a couple unfinished things I'd like to finish off with Ann and [longtime collaborator] Sue [ Ennis ]," she said. "There's one really, really cool song called 'Sweet Deceiver' , but the words were never right, so we never recorded it properly. I think I might want to finish that song; I've been trying to think of new chorus lyrics ever since I heard the demo. I would love to write some new stuff, too.
"If we have a song or two that comes out of HEART , that would be really great. These days, it's kind of like one song at a time, but you can still do a whole album, which is cool. I love albums," she added. "When I can put on an album in its entirety, in the sequence it was intended, that's the best to me."

Bringing Art to Schools
March 26, 2023
Bringing Art To Schools:
Education is more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic. While not always comfortable, our world is increasingly global and diverse. We always have a choice: to stand upon our similarities that bring us closer to each other, or emphasize superficial differences that can drive us apart. A more harmonious, balanced, and prosperous society builds on similarities, rather than differences.
GUHS is now a part of the South Carolina High School League! GO OWLS
Along with offering a great variety of sports for our students, GUHS was granted at-large membership into the South Carolina High School League. This will offer expanded opportunities for our teams in future sporting events and the development of our athletic program.

GREEN COMMUNITY TESTIMONIALS
Being a GREEN Charter school teacher carries with it, for me, a sense of communal endorsement as a professional educator. I feel very honored to work alongside some of the most kind and highly motivated educators in the state of South Carolina. What makes this community truly great is the dedication every single member has to seeing our students go beyond classroom success and graduate as not only learned scholars but also overall world citizens.
-Timothy Watts, Teacher
I like the closeness of the school, having a smaller student body and staff. Knowing all of the staff and them knowing my child makes it so much easier to have him there every day. Having home-schooled for one year, I have recognized the benefits of keeping my child in the set routine that school offers. The teachers make sure that I stay informed of lessons and any issues that may arise, so I never feel left out of the loop.
-Kaela Weidenbach-Cameron, Parent
Most students look at school as something to work through, or something to get done. Just more homework and more studying. But when you get good students that can excel with proper care and you get creative teachers that can help students grow and learn fast; amazing things can happen.

7 Upstate high school football programs have made offseason coaching changes
Here are the Upstate's high school football head coaching changes made ahead of the 2024 season. There is still an opening, created this week at Travelers Rest. Spring football for most teams will begin in early May.
Brett Chappell will take over as coach of the Eagles after the retirement of Clay Lewis.
Chappell spent the past 11 years at Pisgah (N.C.) and had a record of 94-39 with at least a share of five region championships, including four straight from 2018-21. His hiring was approved last week by Spartanburg School District 2.
Lewis was Chesnee’s coach for five seasons and has been working in high school athletics for more than 35 years. Chesnee was 6-6 last season, including 2-3 in Region I-AA.
Sam Houston has been elevated from defensive coordinator to head coach to replace Jordan Durrah, who stepped down after four years.
Houston is an Easley alum and joined the coaching staff in 2019. He began his coaching career in 2017 as a graduate assistant at North Greenville University.
Easley was 4-7 last year, including 2-3 in Region 1-AAAA. Durrah took a team that was 1-7 in 2020 and went 11-10 in the next two seasons.
Jaybo Shaw replaces Greg Porter, who left after five seasons and a 45-15 record to become head coach at Laurens.
Shaw spent the previous two seasons as coach of Wayne County (Ga.), where his teams were 17-7 in the Class AAA division. He also was coach at Rabun County (Ga.), where he went 25-5 in three seasons.
MISSION STATEMENT: Jaybo Shaw makes clear his mission as new football coach at Greenville High
Mountain View
Grey Ramsey, a former standout athlete at Chapman, is athletics director and the first football coach at Mountain View Prep Spartanburg County’s newest program. Ramsey was offensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Spartanburg.
Travelers Rest
The Devildogs are looking for a new coach after Michael Lancaster announced this week he was leaving to become an assistant at his alma mater, Spartanburg. Travelers Rest went 4-7 in each of Lancaster’s two seasons and went a combined 3-5 in Region 3-AAA
Union County
Quinnon Isom, former defensive coordinator at Crest (N.C.), was named head coach to replace Brian Thompson after his six seasons in Union. The Yellow Jackets won Region 3-AAA in 2018 and 2019 under Thompson but were 4-23 in his final three years.
Wade Hampton
Ruuben Wright was hired to replace Travis Miller, who left after five seasons to become athletics director at York.
Wright comes to Greenville from Tampa, Florida, where he was defensive coordinator for Wharton High. He was head coach at Carolina from 2015-18.
The Generals in the past two seasons went 6-15, including 1-7 in Region 2-AAAA.
