In 2018, I had to travel to Hyderabad twice to get my US visa . Back then I decided against writing a Hyderabad blog.

I didn’t want to write down places to visit in Hyderabad in 3 days because Hyderabad city seemed orthodox to my free spirit. Men ogled women freely while their wives roamed around the city fully clad. Hoards of men crowded the corner shops and streets while the women were nowhere to be seen . I even saw an old Muslim man pointing to me and later telling his son my clothes (a pink short-sleeved top and three-fourth jeans) weren’t decent. Though every corner of this Nawabi town was fragrant with delicacies, we had a hard time finding vegetarian food in Hyderabad.

Then I decided against my intuition of not writing about Hyderabad places. 

As I returned from my Hyderabad, I realized Hyderabad is so much more than the conservative society rallying its heritage streets.  Hyderabad is rich with archaic domes, stone-carved mosques, vast lawns, ancient tombs, pigeons, flaky pastries, and robust fort walls. Ginger tea and ageless historic buildings can be found at every corner of Hyderabad. No doubt it is a beautiful town.

Also, men stalked me even in the artistic lanes of Paris , Pushkar , and Delhi. And I wouldn’t even get started on how crowded London tubes get.

Hyderabad was established by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591 at the banks of the Musi River to overcome the water shortage at Golconda fort. Later Hyderabad became the major trade center for pearls and diamonds as the mines of Golconda were rich with both. The lineage of the ten Qutb Shahi rulers then shifted their capital to Hyderabad. The city was won by the Mughals to be eventually lost to the British. 

The present-day Hyderabad can be divided into the historic city on the southern side of the Musi River and the New City on the northern banks. Though most of the historical places in Hyderabad are in the old city, this division is hardly visible. 

Now Hyderabad bustles like a fortress from the past equipped with modern cars and glass skyscrapers. While on one side the Charminar reminds us of Hyderabad’s Nizami heritage, on the other side cabs full of white-collared millennials rush to the Hitech city. Laad Bazaar is as popular as Mega Shopping Mall. While Golconda fort is a weekend’s delight for many, the GVK Inox isn’t forgotten. KFC might have a long queue, but Shah Ghouse Cafe is even busier.

Hyderabad is an interesting blend of modern and traditional. You can explore this city if you are ready to elbow your way through crowded streets or stand in the queue for as long as it takes. These are just battles you have to win in Hyderabad.

My Hyderabad itinerary for 3 days

Day 1 – Start your first day in Hyderabad by visiting Purani Haveli and Chowmallah Palace. Go to Charminar, Laad Bazaar, and Mecca Masjid in the evening. These are some of the most beautiful Hyderabad sites. 

Day 2 – On your second day in Hyderabad, visit the Qutb Shahi tombs, the Taramati Baradari near the tombs, Golconda Fort, and Falaknuma Palace. These places would take almost all day. 

Day 3 – On day three in Hyderabad, go to the Shilparamam handicraft center. (You can also go to Birla Mandir.) Then I suggest walking around the Charminar again and wandering in the labyrinth of Hyderabadi streets. Who knows what you might find!

Day 1 in Hyderabad

Admire the grandeur of Chowmallah Palace

Visiting Chowmallah palace could be a clichéd thing to do in Hyderabad. But we had to see the grandeur of the ruling Nizams, who lived in the Chowmallah palace from the 1700s until the partition. The Nizam kings hosted their royal guests in the palace too. Now the mansion is a public museum inaugurated by the eighth Nizam in 2005.

Chowmallah means four palaces in Urdu. The four palaces were for dance and entertainment, living, and for the best views of Hyderabad. Large fountains and lawns surround the mahals from all sides. Pigeons freely splashed around in the fountains and cats drooled over the birds.

The exotic cars of the Nizams are displayed in the palace. The museum also has glass chandeliers, weapons, porcelain, jewelry, and many more royal artifacts.

Timings: 10 am to 5 pm. Closed on Friday.

Purani Haveli

Purani Haveli (literally old mansion) was the third Nizam Sikandar Jah ’s residence until he moved to Chowmallah palace. After his move, the mansion started being called old/previous (purani) then.

Purani Haveli is a mix of both Indian and Baroque designs. The haveli has large rooms full of antique furniture,   mosaic floors, and it also hosts the Nizam’s museum.

A couple of hours are needed to fully experience this beautiful palace.

Timings: 10 am to 5 pm. Friday Closed.

Charminar and the Lad Bazaar— Best places to visit in Hyderabad in evening

We got a chance to see the Charminar on Indian Independence Day. The minar was lit with freedom lights and stood glorious in the crowd of the Lad Bazaar.

As per Wikipedia  and the “Days of the Beloved” book, Qutb Shah constructed the Charminar on the very spot where he saw his future queen the first time. While laying the foundation of Charminar in 1589, Qutub Shah, an early poet of Urdu, recited this prayer in Dakhini Urdu,

Which reads like this in English,

Charminar — literally four towers — stands on four ornate towers. Climb up one of these minarets to see the Lad bazaar and the web of streets constituting the old city of Hyderabad.

Lad Bazaar gets its name from the lacquer (literally lad) bangles sold in the market. In Lad Bazaar, you would be surrounded by embroidered clothes, colorful zari dupattas, gold, silver, and artificial jewelry, pearls, hand-stitched footwear, paintings, and colorful umbrellas. Stalls of Nizami food, sugarcane juice, fruits, chaats, and shawarmas are strewn around the market as well. 

At night, thousands of lights are lit in the market. Hundreds of people head to the market to eat, buy a pair of dazzling earrings, drink sweet and fresh sugar cane juice, or cool down with some kulfi. To each its own.

While at the Charminar, get a cup of Irani chai from the cafe behind the Charminar. Sip it while watching the old and new Hyderabad tuning into a rhythm together.

Timings: All day long. 

Tips for visiting: The bazaar is always crowded. I liked the bazaar in the evenings when the air was cooler, people were more peaceful, and lights made the place special.

Makkah Masjid or Mecca Masjid

I saw this grand mosque from the outside as only Muslim males are allowed inside.

Built by the fifth Qutb ruler Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the mosque is fitted with bricks made from Mecca soil. The soil was brought from the city of Mecca on Qutb’s order.

The arched facades carved from granite and the tall minarets make this masjid beautiful.

Places in Hyderabad for Your Day 2

Get a bird’s eye view of Hyderabad from the Golconda Fort

The fascinating part of the Golconda Fort is the three layers of walls each 17-35 feet thick. Even Aurangzeb wasn’t able to penetrate these walls. Thus Golconda is also known as the impregnable fort.

Not many people know that the famous diamond Kohinoor was mined from the Golconda region. Golconda diamonds proved lucky for the Qutub Shahis, who ruled Hyderabad up to 1687, and the Nizams, who ruled the city until the independence. Post-independence, the princely state of Hyderabad was integrated with India.

We went to the fort at 9 am to avoid the heat, but the Nawabi sun glowed us on so hard we were sweating in no time. Though the fort promises to be plastic-free, vendors freely sold small plastic bags of water.

One of the fort’s buildings was closed for renovation. We climbed up a temple and then to the canons kept at the top of the fort. One can see the shining city, Qutub tombs, the Charminar, and the sinewy walls of the forts from the top.

Fort timings: 9 am to 5.30 pm daily. A one-hour music and lights show is held at Golconda every day at 6.30 pm. The show is held in English, Hindi, and Telugu with a voice-over by Amitabh Bachchan.

Tips: The fort would be crowded on holidays, so try going on a weekday. Make sure you take water and perhaps fruits which you can enjoy in a shaded corner later. Walk at your pace and don’t miss the intricate Persian carvings that were specially made to keep the fort ventilated at all times.

Relax in the Qutub Shahi Tombs — One of the best historical monuments in Hyderabad

This might sound strange. But the Shahi Qutub tombs finally offered us a peaceful and cool shelter we were desperately searching for.

The seven tombs of the Qutb Shahi dynasty stand in the middle of a landscaped garden known as Ibrahim Bagh . The intricately carved domes shined in the golden sunlight, while pigeons flew about the domes to make the entire scene quite medieval.

The large gardens were perfect to spend a scorching Hyderabad afternoon. When we got tired of sitting in the courtyard, we walked around the dense garden. We caught butterflies, listened to the chatty parrots , and stalked the cuckoo as she sang and flitted between trees. We also found some muddy paths in between the dense foliage; if we were a bit more silent, we could have seen the family of animals that scurried away as soon as we stumbled on their path.

We spend around three to four hours in these ornamented tombs. Eating guavas and watching the sky turn orange behind the serene domes made the day even more special.

Timings: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm every day

Tips: Bring water and a picnic mat.

You can either walk from the Golconda fort to the tombs or the other way around if you want to see the music show in the fort later.

Taramati Baradari

About 4 km from Golconda Fort and 13 km from Charminar, Taramati Baradari  was constructed as a  Sarai  or a resting house for travelers in Ibrahim Bagh, our favorite tombs garden.

While many legends are connected to this arched sarai, my favorite is the one in which Abdullah Qutb Shah used to listen to Taramati, a court singer. She sang in the resthouse while the shah listened from the Golconda fort.

Go here while visiting the Qutb Shahi tombs. Taramati Baradari’s cross ventilation is known to be one of the best.

Timings: 11 am to 6 pm

Falak numa Palace

Originally the residence of the Nizam, this palace is now turned into a grand hotel by the Taj groups. The hotel isn’t open to the public.

Shilparamam — One of the best things to do in Hyderabad if you love handicrafts and local art

Located near the Hitec city of Hyderabad, Shilparamam village is about 9 km from Golconda fort. Similar to Dilli Haat, Shilparamam also flaunts handmade and traditional items by artisans from all over India.

When you have had enough of history and architecture, do consider taking a taxi to this village. Once at Shilparamam, eat at the local stalls and browse through handmade artifacts.

These were my best places in Hyderabad.

I also went to Hussain Sagar, for I stayed nearby the lake, but the enormous amounts of plastic thrown around the lake disappointed me.

Timings: 10:30 am to 8:30 pm

Another possible place to see in Hyderabad,

Birla Mandir

The grand Birla Mandir of Hyderabad stands on the top of a hill known as Kala pahaad. Like other Birla temples , Hyderabad Birla temple is also made of white marble.

Stories say that about 2000 tonnes of white marble were brought to build this temple. If you have seen other Birla temples and are short on time in Hyderabad, you can skip this one.

Timings: 7 am – 12 pm and from 3 – 9 pm.

Places to be visited in Hyderabad in 1 day

If you only have one day in Hyderabad, visit Golconda Fort, Qutub Shahi Tombs, stop by Taramati Baradari in the gardens there, and Chowmallah palace. Towards the end of the day, go see the Charminar and the Lad Bazaar. While walking around the Charminar you can see the Mecca masjid from outside in the evening light.

Places to visit in Hyderabad in 2 days or if you are spending a weekend in Hyderabad.

For visiting Hyderabad for two days, just follow the first two days itinerary from above.

Day 1 – Go to Purani Haveli and Chowmallah Palace during the day. See the Charminar, Laad Bazaar, and Mecca Masjid in the evening.

Day 2 – On your last day in Hyderabad, visit the Qutb Shahi tombs, the Taramati Baradari near the tombs, and Golconda Fort. 

Though Hyderabad is famous for the rich Mughlai and Nizami food, I could only taste so much as I had recently quit eating meat. Hyderabadi biryani joints and Mughlai places don’t offer much for a vegetarian.

Every time we were hungry, we had to walk for a long time. Still, we could only find chicken and mutton biryani joints or keema naan and seekh kebab kiosks. Swarms of men drank Irani chai outside shabby restaurants. Of course, we sat in some of those places, if not to eat, but to drink chai under dusty fans.

And many times we had to open the Zomato app to find a vegetarian place.

Lamakaans, near GKV Inox in Banjara Hills . (budget-friendly and good)

Lamakaans was a rustic community place that encouraged arts, theatre, social work, and entrepreneurship. Big Gulmohar trees overshadowed the cafe’s huge mud complex in which many stacks of chairs were kept; Entrepreneurs, artists, and college friends, solo or in big groups, spread the chairs and drank tea and ate samosas.

We gorged on the tasty khatti dal, aloo bonda, rice, samosa, chilly bhajji along with some nimbu pani, and tea under a tree. Prices are affordable. Food is delicious.

The Jewels of Nizam (in Golconda hotel) (Lavish and okay)

Here we enjoyed naan, khameeri roti, buttermilk, and two Mughlai sabjis while two maestros played classical tabla and sitar.

Though the prices didn’t match the service or the food, we had a comfortable time there.

Santhosh’s family Dhaba’s (Below Average)

This restaurant’s name popped up in Zomato when we looked for a vegetarian restaurant, but the place was anything but a dhaba. The methi Chaman and mushroom curries swam in golden oil. As I tilted the plate to serve the gravy to my friend, the oil dripped on my hand and the tablecloth. The toilets were broken and dirty.

GKV Inox Foodcourt (affordable and good)

On my second trip to Hyderabad, we watched two movies back-to-back and ate at the GKV Inox food court. In Hyderabad ticket prices have an upper limit. So we could finally watch some movies at an affordable price.

We ate a vegetarian uruvachari biryani, noodles, and gobhi Manchurian at the Andhra stall. The biryani was delicious, like all other Andhra food.

Chutneys, a popular South Indian joint (Affordable and good)

We ordered breakfast from there. The dosas and chutneys were delicious.

Cafes and bakeries were in abundance in Hyderabad city, but we couldn’t eat at most non-vegetarian places. Like the favorite Shah Ghouse cafe which we skipped after seeing the menu. We did eat local delicacies such as veg puff, mushroom patty, cream rolls, and potato patty at small corner bakeries.

We had our last dinner at a South Indian street food joint in Lad bazaar and drank sugarcane juice. Oh! the sweet sugarcane! Do try when in Hyderabad.

If you try to find accommodation near the must-see places in Hyderabad, you will never find a hotel. Because the places to see are scattered and so are the good hotels. I’m listing some good guest houses below.

Shobha serviced apartments – You should consider staying at Shobha apartments if you are going to Hyderabad for a US visa.

Shobha serviced apartments are right opposite the US consulate office. You can walk to the consulate via the back gate of the apartments. I stayed here twice. The breakfast was okay, but the manager and the staff were really helpful and kind. The place appears to be closed now.

Lavish properties in Hyderabad

Hotel  Hyatt Hyderabad Gachibowli – Hyatt is for those who love lavish hotels. Hyderabad Hyatt isn’t as expensive as other Hyatts. The hotel has a spa and swimming pool. Also, do check out the views from the rooms. Go here to see the pictures and decide.

Lemon Tree Hotel, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – Lemon Tree has been reviewed highly for its customer service. The hotel has a large gym and a beautifully lit restaurant. Check out the prices of Lemon Tree on this page .

Budget-friendly accommodations in Hyderabad

Elysium Inn Backpacker – Elysium is an affordable hostel for backpackers, friends, and couples. The hostel has dorms and private rooms. The reviews suggest the staff is friendly and helpful. Go here to see the prices and book Elysium.

Slackpackr Hyderabad – Slackpackr has both dorms and private room. The reviews of the hostel are great. The guesthouse has wifi and is located in the city center. You can see the hostel’s pictures and pricing here .

What is the best time to travel in Hyderabad?

Hyderabad would be scorching in the summer season from April to September. Plan your Hyderabad visit outside these months.

Insider tips for your Hyderabad trip

• Internet was a little slow in Hyderabad.
• We had trouble finding toilet paper. So please take yours.
• Tap water in Hyderabad isn’t drinkable. I use the Lifestraw bottle that filters water on the go. Just fill from anywhere and let the filter work.
• If you are near Charminar and can’t find a toilet, go to the quaint CCD in the Lad bazaar.

Books to Read on Hyderabad,

• The Deodis of Hyderabad a Lost Heritage by Rani Sharma – In the nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries, the nobles of the princely state of Hyderabad lived in palatial residences known as deodis, some 1200 of which once existed in the Old City of Hyderabad. Almost all of these traditional homes have been demolished in recent years, leaving little trace of a now vanished lifestyle. The Deodis of Hyderabad takes you on an evocative journey into the past as the author describes some of the prominent deodis and the lives of the grand nobles who lived in them. (I haven’t read this one solely because of lack of time. But this book is on my list.)
• Golconda Bagnagar Hyderabad: Rise and Fall of a Global Metropolis in Medieval India – In the 1970s when archaeologists began digging around the Golconda Fort near Hyderabad in southern India, they discovered a treasure. Buried beneath a layer of ash and debris were a distillery, Syrian wine jars, bangles, ivory chess pieces and fragments of jewellery. The archaeologists dated it to the time of the first ruler of the Golconda Kingdom Sultan Quli Qutb-ul-Mulk. The archaeological treasure dated the ash and debris to the last siege of Golconda Fort by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir in 1687. ( Though the reviews of this book are mixed, it tells a lot of history of Hyderabad. Consider this one as more of an academic or research read.)
• Heritage of Hyderabad by Madhu Vottrey – I’m currently reading this book and having a lot of fun with it. Madhu tells stories of Hyderabad in a narrative suited for children, which is why it works with most adults, too. The book comes along with activities to do in Hyderabad and also a lot of illustrations done by school children. What fun!
• Hyderabad A Memory of Taste by Mala Gole and Elizabeth Adams – This one is for food lovers. The book celebrates the heritage cuisine of Hyderabad through detailed recipes and original illustrations.

Also city is chaotic but I loved spending 5 days there Because every citu has its own charm.

Getting to and from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport:

Whether you’ve planned a vacation or are arriving on last minute flights , your airplane will land at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in Shamshabad about 22 km from Hyderabad. To reach the city from here, you can take one of the air-conditioned buses called Pushpak run by the airport itself. The buses are available at a frequency of half an hour each from 3:30 am to 11:00pm. At midnight, they have a one-hour frequency from 1:00 am to 3:00 am. You can reach various points in the city such as Hi-tech city, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Mehdipatnam, and Charminar, etc. From here, you can take a taxi or auto rickshaw to your hotel. Travel time will depend on the distance and traffic conditions.

Alternatively, you can also use Meru, Avis, and Sky Cabs available right outside the airport to reach your intended destination in the city.

Getting around in Hyderabad:

There are many ways to get around in the city as listed by our Hyderabad travel guide. State-run buses, local trains, and auto rickshaws are good public transport options. Buses and trains are cheaper options when compared to auto rickshaws but can be very crowded. Any local Hyderabad tour guide will suggest the same. Cabs are another convenient option for those who prefer none of the above options. Whatever the mode of transport you choose, keep in mind to install Hyderabad Traffic Police app on your smartphone. The app has an SOS button you can use in case of emergencies.

Spread over 1,666 acres, Ramoji Film City holds the title of the world’s largest film city. The humongous sets and several different activities make it one of the best places to visit in Hyderabad.

It is the same film studio that gave us India’s biggest blockbuster movies like RRR, Puspa, and Bahubali.

You can visit the set of Bahubali and click some Instagram-able pics.

Apart from the movie sets, there are various activities you can do:

• Sports Activities

You can opt from various packages according to your budget. The best time to visit Ramoji is in the winter.

Charminar is one of the characteristic tourist places in Hyderabad. If you are a fan of Indian history and admire the beauty of ancient architecture, this place is heaven for you.

You can take a bus from Hyderabad bus stop to visit Charminar, which is 5km from there. Note that you cannot enter Charminar after 5:00 PM. You can surely take a view from the outside.

Apart from the Charminar building, the surrounding is good for shopping. You can find some beautiful bangles, dresses, bangles, and make-up items at reasonable rates.

Also, this market is among the oldest markets in Hyderabad. Food items like Biryani in this market are also something you don’t want to miss.

If you are visiting Hyderabad, you must experience the serenity of this place. The Statue of Sri Bhagavad Ramanujacharya, the ancient philosopher, is not only a statue but an experience of the philosophy of the saint.

The 216 ft tall Statue of Equality is the world’s second-largest statue in sitting position. The Buddha Statue in Thailand is the largest in sitting position.

Wednesday is a day off. You can visit here the other 6 days of the week.

Leather items like belts, bags, and pure and mobile phones are strictly prohibited. You can rent a locker and keep your belongings there.

Overly casual clothes and half pants are not allowed. Wear full sleeves while visiting.

Chowmahalla Palace is the best place to visit in Hyderabad if you admire Ancient Art and culture.

Constructed by Salabat Jung, Chowmahalla has been the Nizams’ home for centuries. It belongs to Ali Khan Mukarram Jah, the current titular Nizam of Hyderabad’

The Palace also has a Quran Section where you can read it.

Several fountains and gardens surround the Palace. You’ll love spending time in the huge compound.

They also have a canteen where you can try a variety of Hyderabadi cuisines. 

Chowmalla Palace is a work of art. The location is picturesque, and you can’t stop yourself from capturing it on your phone.

To take pictures, you will have to pay an amount of Rs 50, and for videos, it’s Rs 200.

Salar Jung Museum stands in Darushife, on the banks of the Musi river.

Having some of the most iconic weapons, artifacts, and possessions of the greatest warriors of India, this museum is the best place in Hyderabad for Students.

Having over 10 Lakhs artifacts, it is the third-largest museum in India.

The visiting hours of Salar Jung are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm every day except Friday.

Situated in Ibrahim baug, Qutub Shahi Tomb represents the reign of 7 successors of the Qutub Shah Dynasty.

It is tomb 7 of the dynasty rulers.

The Tomb is a work of art. The architecture shows a mix of Indian and Islamic styles with a touch of Persian art. You can tell by seeing that even the minute details were taken care of.

Surrounded by gardens, this place is a favorite tourist place in Hyderabad.

Qutub Shahi tomb is also closed on Friday. On the rest of the weekdays, you can visit between 9:30 AM-4:30 PM.

Kasi Beahmananda Reddy park or KBR national park is in Jubilee Hills. 

Stretching across 390 acres, the park is home to hundreds of species of birds, animals and plants.

You can visit between 5:30 am – 10:00 am and 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm.

Lumbini is an entertainment-packed park in the heart of Hyderabad, Kairatabad.It remains open from 9:00 am-9:00 pm.

The park is part of the Buddha Purnima project of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority.

The biggest attraction of Lumbini is its Laser Shows and Musical Fountain.

Laser shows with abstract colors are a delight to watch. You’ll feel just like a dream.

The musical fountain is the highlight of the park. The water shifting its shape in sync with music is something you do not get to watch daily.

But there’s still more left. You can go boating in Hussein Sagar lake. 

Spread across 380 acres, Nehru Zoo Park is one of the largest zoos in India.

Unlike other zoos, Nehru Zoo Park has an open enclosure. No animals are caged. 

They carry out lion, bear and bison safaris so you can see them directly with no bars in between. Oh, and how can you forget the Toy trains! They are a total delight for your inner child.

Jurassic Park is something you cannot afford to miss. Yes, the movie is good too. But at Nehru zoo park, you can find Life-sized figures of dinosaurs. Fascinating, isn’t it?

You can end your adventure by visiting Butterfly Park. 

The Zoo Guest house is also available for rent from 9 AM to 5.50 PM.

Purani haveli was the home for Nizams. It is located in Afzal Gunj. You can visit Purani Haveli between 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Too lazy to go to Kashmir? Well, you don’t need to. 

Snow World in Lower Tank Bund Road is the ultimate joyride you need.It is the first and one of the largest snow theme parks in India.

Spread in an area of 17,000 square feet, it has different activities to enjoy. Skating, Ice boarding, and snow slides with bumping-car are some of them.

Apart from that, there are several games you can enjoy playing in the snow. No cameras or phones are allowed in there.

You can book any slot between 11:00 am-9:00 pm. One session lasts for one hour.

Trekking is fun. Far away from the city lights, just greenery and peace.

Ananthagiri Hills is the best trekking destination if you are looking for a place to visit near Hyderabad .

Located just 10 km from Vikarabad, Ananthagiri is one of the densest forests of Telangana. If you wish to stay, there are several resorts nearby with good services.

Sri Anantha Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a highlight of Ananthagiri. The Vishnu temple is a symbol of harmony and peace. Also, it is one of the ancient temples in India.

Located 11 Km from Hyderabad, Golkonda fort is another Historical Marvel in Telangana. 

You can visit Golconda between 9:00 am-5:30 pm.

Between 6:00 pm-9:15 pm, they host mesmerizing sound and light shows which are popular here in Hyderabad. 

Tank bund is one of the most interesting places to visit in Hyderabad. The Tank Bund road connects Hyderabad with Secunderabad.

Tank Bund dams the river of Hussain Sagar, Asia’s largest artificial lake. The Buddha monolith in the center of Hussain Sagar gains lots of traction.

What makes it interesting is the 33 bronze statues of legendary people in India. Tank Bund reminds us of the efforts of these people and their contributions. Also, the garden here is fresh and gives the delight to roam around. An ideal place for a relaxed roams around the city. 

There are Birla Mandirs all over India, but the one in Hyderabad is breathtaking. The temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara with his idol (11 feet high).

The temple shows North and South Indian styles of Architecture, with Ramayana and Mahabharata carved on walls.

The Birla Mandir is on a hilltop, so it requires a bit of ascending. But the view you get after reaching it is gorgeous.  Hussain Sagar Lake and the surrounding cities look so beautiful. 

Visit the temple between 7:00 am-12:00 pm and 3:00 am -9:00 pm 

You can also visit Birla Planetarium and Birla Science Museum near the temple.

Up for a once-in-a-lifetime experience? Thrill City is a Virtual Reality amusement park that is probably the best place to visit in Hyderabad with friends.

The Simulations are so abstract and Realistic that you can feel your presence in the viral world.

As the name suggests, this museum is for taking selfies. The Selfie Museum has different themed backgrounds with mind-blowing aesthetics. 

If you are an Instagrammer or love making reels, you’ll have a ball of a time here.

They open between 12:30 PM-11:30 PM

Holidays are incomplete without amusement parks. The Mount Opera Theme park is the ultimate destination for never-ending fun.

Day 1 of 3-Day Hyderabad Tour

The first day of your tour will begin early, so I suggest you to eat breakfast at the hotel you are staying at. Depending on the area you are staying, schedule your time and try to reach ISKCON Hyderabad by 8 o’clock in the morning.

The iconic heritage buildings of the city are the most popular tourist places in Hyderabad. Therefore on the first day of the tour, you will be visiting most of them which are located in the Old City of Hyderabad.

1. ISKCON Hyderabad

The ISKCON Hyderabad was established by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada in the year 1976. This magnificent temple dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna is also known as Sri Radha-Madana-Mohana temple.

The temple attracts devotees from across the globe to experience the divine energy through aarti, meditation, kirtan, bhajans, lectures on Bhagavad Gita and many such spiritual activities. Every Sunday, special programs and feasts are also arranged at ISKCON Hyderabad.

The splendid temple boasts of beautiful paintings and idols decked up in rich clothes and jewellery. The intricate work on the structure of the temple includes impressive arches, columns and verandahs. The lush green lawn and fountains near the temple add to the tranquillity of the place.

2. Salar Jung Museum

Salar Jung Museum is the third largest museum in India, which displays a wide variety of artefacts collected by Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, popularly known as Salar Jung III for about 35 years. Thus, it is one of the most visited historical places in Hyderabad. The museum was inaugurated on 16 December 1951 by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Until then, it was a private museum of the Salar Jung family.

The imposing white two-storeyed museum with 38 galleries is spread over a sprawling area of about 10 acres. The rich collection of artefacts ranges from sculptures, textiles, paintings, armours from India and other parts of the world like Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia.

3. Purani Haveli

The Purani Haveli was the official residence of the Nizams for several centuries. Masarrat Mahal Palace and Haveli Khadeem are some of the popular names of Purani Haveli. This 18th-century palace beautifully blends the elements of Indian and European architecture.

Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of Hyderbad lived there for a few years before shifting his residence to Khilaurat complex in the Chowmahalla Palace. The palace was abandoned until Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, made it his official residence. Thus, it is known as Purani Haveli.

The palace houses an elaborate collection of artefacts and antique furniture. Ayina Khaana (Mirror House), Chini Khana (Chinese Glass House) and Nizam’s Museum are some of the buildings located within the premises of Purani Haveli that are worth visiting.

4. Sudha Cars Museum

Sudha Cars Museum is one of the most unique places to visit in Hyderabad for an automobile enthusiast. The museum was established in 2010 by Kanyaboyina Sudhakar, popularly known as K. Sudhakar.

This one of a kind museum showcases an interesting collection of cars that resembles everyday objects like a shoe, handbag, Shivling and many others. Sudhakar is also recognised for building the smallest double-decker bus and the largest tricycle in the world featured in this museum.

The display of the cars in Sudha Cars Museum includes vintage cars, modified cars and those made by Sudhakar himself.

5. Biryani for Lunch

The flavourful Biryani of Hyderabad has put the city on the global map. The Biryani of Hyderabad has a distinct flavour, even though it may still look very similar to the biryani prepared in other parts of the country. Hotel Shadab, Hotel Nayaab and Rumaan Restaurants are some of the notable restaurants in the nearby areas that serve Hyderabadi Biryani.

6. Chowmahalla Palace

This majestic palace is one of the most popular heritage buildings in Hyderabad. It is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious places to visit in Hyderabad. The construction of Chowmahalla Palace was started in 1750 by Nizam Salabat Jung and the construction was completed almost a century later during the reign of Afzal Jah V, the fifth Nizam of Hyderabad.

Chowmahalla Palace is one of the most alluring palaces in the city, spread over an extensive area of over 45 acres of land. Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, Aftab Mahal, Roshan Bangla, Durbar Hall, Bara Imam and Clock Tower are some of the most attractive structures within the premises of the luxurious palace. The charming design of the structures, grand glass chandeliers and rich collection of artefacts enthral every visitor at the Chowmahalla Palace.

7. Charminar

A Hyderabad city tour is incomplete without visiting the iconic Charminar. The charming facade was constructed in 1591 by Quli Qutub Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. The city of Hyderabad was planned around Charminar.

This 450-year-old Indo-Saracenic style structure is one of the most popular historical monuments in Hyderabad. The intricately decorated minarets, balconies and lofty arches are some of the most striking features of Charminar. In 1889, four clocks were added on each side of this square building.

8. Mecca Masjid

Mecca Masjid is one of the oldest and largest mosques in India. This grand mosque is not only a famous religious place in Hyderabad but also a heritage site that is visited by travellers from across the globe. The construction of the mosque was initiated by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in the year 1614 and almost eight decades later in 1694, its construction was completed under the reign of Aurangzeb.

The enormous columns, intricate designs on the structure and the beautiful calligraphy on the arches of Mecca Masjid demonstrate the artistic skills of the by-gone era. The bricks used in the construction of this mosque were prepared from the soil of the Holy Land of Mecca. Thus, the name Mecca Masjid or Makkah Masjid.

9. Laad Bazaar

Hyderabad city tour is incomplete without visiting this iconic bazaar near Charminar. Laad Bazaar, also known as Choodi Bazaar, is one of the favourite street shopping places for tourists as well as the residents of the city.

The elegant pearl jewellery and vibrant Laad bangles of Hyderabad are considered to be one of the best souvenir options that you can buy from Laad Bazaar. You can shop to your heart’s content for a variety of Indian wear, especially zari or embroidered ones at great prices.

In the evenings, Laad Bazar comes to life as you can find a plethora of street food stalls selling lip-smacking food items at pocket-friendly prices.

Day 2 of 3-Day Hyderabad Tour

The second day of the tour will begin early as you will have an interesting list of places to see in Hyderabad. It is advisable to eat breakfast at the hotel and start your day early. Since you will be visiting a national park to spot some rare birds and animals, try to reach the park by 6 o’clock in the morning.

1. Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park, popularly known as KBR National Park, is often described as “a jungle amidst the concrete jungle”. This lush green park, located at Jubilee Hills is one of the best parks to visit in Hyderabad. If you are a nature-lover, then Hyderabad sightseeing is incomplete without visiting this national park.

Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is home to about 600 species of flora, 140 species of birds and 30 different varieties of butterflies and reptiles. Pangolins, porcupines, small Indian civets and peacocks are some of the rare species that you can spot in this park.

The Chiran Palace, Mor Bungalow, Gol Bungalow and Motor Khana are some of the prominent sites inside the park that you must visit on your trip to KBR National Park.

If you are a fitness freak, you will enjoy every moment that you will spend here in this serene park. The park has an open gym and walking or jogging tracks approximately 7 kilometres long. During your visit to Hyderabad if you are staying in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, try to visit this park early in the morning for an unforgettable experience.

3. Qutub Shahi Tombs

Located close to the Golconda Fort, the Qutub Shahi Tombs are one of the popular tourist attractions in Hyderabad. The tombs and mosques located within this premises were built by several rulers of the Qutub Shahi dynasty.

Each of the seven tombs of the Qutub Shahi dynasty beautifully blends the elements of Indo-Islamic architecture. The larger tombs are designed to have double-storeyed galleries while the smaller tombs have a single-storeyed gallery. Although all of these tombs belong to the same family, the minute differences on the carvings on each of the tombs will mesmerise you.

There are several restaurants and cafes in and around the area of Qutub Shahi Tombs and Golconda Fort. Most of the restaurants either serve Biryani or South-Indian dishes; although a few of the restaurants serve North-Indian dishes. Pachi Pulusu Authentic Telugu Cuisine, Bab al Mandi, Eggden and Bhojanam Restaurant are some of the popular restaurants in this area.

5. Golconda Fort

The majestic fort is one of the most attractive places to visit around Hyderabad. In the 12th-century, the Kakatiya dynasty laid the foundation of Golconda Fort and later Quli Qutub Shah contributed to the architecture of this fortress to make it one of the most awe-inspiring structures that stands in the city.

Golconda Fort is spread over a sprawling area of 11 kilometres, thus making it one of the largest forts in India. Your trip of Hyderabad is incomplete if you do not visit this alluring fort that houses mosques, temples, bastions, lawns and royal apartments within its extensive premises.

The Light and Sound Show brings to life the interesting history of Golconda Fort. Thus, you must witness this magical show for a lifetime experience.

This famous 67-year-old bakery of Hyderabad is renowned for its premium quality bakery goodies. The bakery items from this bakery, especially the cookies and cakes will delight any confectionery lover back home. Fruit cake, Dil Khush, Almond biscuits, Osmania biscuits, Fruit biscuits and Plum cake are some of the mouth-watering bakery bakery items that you must taste from Karachi Bakery.

Ramoji Film City is spread over a sprawling area of 1666 acres, thus making it the World’s largest Film City Complex as recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records. This fascinating film city was established in 1996 as the brainchild of Ramoji Rao, a Film Producer, and Nitish Roy, an Art Director.

Ramoji Film City has some of the most alluring film sets that replicate the streets of London, Hollywood signs and gardens. Enjoy the lush greenery of the Mughal Gardens and the Japanese Garden; and then step into the sophisticated set of Bhagavatam and Princess Street for an unforgettable experience. Hop on a Red Bus that will give you a tour of every nook and corner of the Fim City along with a Tourist Guide. The splendid architecture that can be spotted in this ‘City of Nizams’ always surprises its visitors; the Spanish Mosque at Begumpet is one of them. Mosque of the Moors, Masjid Iqbal Ud Daula and Jam e Masjid Aiwan-E-Begumpet are some of the popular names of the Spanish Mosque in Hyderabad.

The construction of the splendid Jam e Masjid Aiwan-E-Begumpet was initiated in 1887 by Sir Viqar ul-Umara and completed in 1906 by his heir, Nawab Sultan-Ul-Mulk. The architecture of this mosque is in stark contrast to the other mosques in the city. Slender minarets, octagonal spires, pointed arches and minimal geometric patterns are some of the unique characteristics of this Moorish style mosque.

5. Birla Mandir

This imposing white temple constructed by Birla Foundation stands on Naubat Pahad, a hillock at Khairtabad. The temple aesthetically blends Dravidian, Rajasthani and Utkala styles of architecture, which lends it a soothing impression.

Birla Mandir is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple also has separate shrines for consorts of Lord Venkateswara, Padmavati and Andal; and other Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Unlike traditional temples, Birla Mandir does have bells and is open to people of all faiths.

6. Hussain Sagar Lake and Buddha Statue

Hussain Sagar Lake is a heart-shaped lake built on River Musi. This lake separates the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and is a popular recreational spot in the city. This lake was built by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1563. Hussain Shah Wali was the designer of this lake, thus the name Hussain Sagar Lake.

The gigantic 72 feet Buddha statue stands on the Rock of Gibraltar of the lake. The imposing statue of Gautama Buddha is sure to mesmerise you, especially in the evenings when the statue is illuminated with lights.

A boat ride to the Buddha statue from the Lumbini Park, a scenic park located in the vicinity of the lake, especially just before dusk is sure to enthral you. After watching the sunset from the Rock of Gibraltar, return to the park as you enjoy the scenic cityscape and the breeze.

Relish the creamy taste of Irani chai along with Bun Maska or Osmania biscuits from this 40-year-old. Cafe Nilofer is one of the most prominent cafes of the city that continues to serve its customers with delicious bakery items.

My son’s vacation was about to start in a few days. We wanted a break from the monotony and the routine of hectic everyday life. So, we decided to pack our bags for a four-day trip to Hyderabad.

I am sharing with you my Hyderabad 4 days itinerary to explore and experience the grandest and most lively modern Indian cities full of the richness of history and culture. Here is a quick overview, before I delve into the details.

Day 1: Exploring the Most Iconic Sites Hyderabad

On our first day in Hyderabad, we decided to explore some of the most iconic places in the city. These include historical monuments, famous markets and some celebrated eateries.

Visit the Serene & Beautiful Birla  Mandir 

We started our Hyderabad Trip with a visit to this beautiful temple made in white marble. The whole aura of this place is extremely peaceful and breathtaking.

What makes the experience of visiting the place more special is the fact that phones or cameras are not allowed inside. Therefore, one can mindfully enjoy the bliss and architecture of the place.

We visited the temple early morning and enjoyed the panoramic view of the city from the temple.

Salar Jung is a treasure trove for art lovers. I especially loved the ivory section

A Trip to Hyderabad is incomplete without a visit to Salar Jung Museum

No art lover or history enthusiast should miss the Salar Jung museum. Situated on Salar Jung road, the white building looks very beautiful in daylight.

The museum showcases over 50,000 displays and within 3 buildings. I was stunned by the vast collection including amazing swords, shields with designs, vessels, books written in the 11th century, oriental artifacts, Egyptian carpets, European glassware, Indian handicrafts, etc. However, the famous double-sided statue of the veiled lady was my number one pick here.

The unique character of the museum is to preserve the heritage of India by improvising on digital techniques. The facility of audio tour is also available.

After being stumped by the artifacts in Salar Jung we headed to Hotel Shadab for lunch.  The hotel is a perfect tribute to the lovers of traditional authentic Hyderabadi dum Biryani.

We placed an order for the much-awaited Hyderabadi Dum Biryani with Mirchi ka Salan. When served, we could feel the superb aroma. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasty, aromatic and flavorful Biryani along with tangy, spicy Salan. It was truly a content meal both in terms of our appetite and taste.

‎Apart from Dum Biriyani, they serve Kebabs and mutton in all verities, and during Ramadan,  haleem .

Shop for Hyderabdi Souvenirs at Laad Bazar

Laad or choodi bazar is quite close to the Charminar, which is undoubtedly the most popular tourist spots of Hyderabad. This place has almost everything that a woman can have in her shopping list.

The market offers a wide range of coloured lac bangles,  zari and embroidery works, sarees, traditional clothing, bridal wear, semi-precious stones, etc. Laadbazar pearls are equally famous as well.  Authentic Hyderabadi pearls to junk jewelry; all are available in a wide variety, that too   at quite economical prices!

I purchased colorful set of Lac bangles and pearls jewelry as a souvenir for my family and loved ones.,If you have ample time to explore and bargain then this is the best place for shopping.

Chowmahalla Palace is a must-visit destination for its historical significance and architecture.

Get Mesmerised by the Beauty of the Splendid Chowmahalla Palace

The palace is almost 200 years old and was once the official seat of the Asaf Jahi dynasty. It is known for its magnificent architecture and awe-inspiring beauty.

The grand chandeliers, glasses (shisha) around, colourful walls, shaped domes and white exterior polishing of the palace would make you stay there for hours. Here you can also see the old coins, weapons and costumes used during the rule of Nizams.

There is a beautiful and well-maintained garden all around the palace. Once you start for the exit you will find water fountains and pigeons hovering around it. There is also a shopping area where you can purchase souvenirs.

Charminar is globally recognised as the landmark structure in Hyderabad.

No Hyderabad 4 Days Itinerary is complete without Witness the Architectural Masterpiece Charminar

This majestic architectural masterpiece of the city stands at the heart of the old city of Hyderabad. The Charminar was built by Mohammad Quli Qutub Shah in 1591. The structure is square, with a central pointed high arch at the center.

The minarets, their domed finials, are 180 feet tall from grade level. The whole edifice contains numerous small decorative arches arranged both vertically and horizontally. We climbed up the structure to see the crowded marketplace below.

It is situated close to Laad Bazar and Mecca masjid.

Feel The Spirituality In the Air at Mecca Masjid

Mecca masjid is located adjacent to Charminar in the Southwest direction. It finds a place among the largest mosques in India.

The architecture of Mecca Masjid represents the styles of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. The Mecca Masjid can accommodate up to 10,000 people.

We could feel spiritual tranquillity pervading the air inside the mosque. Mecca masjid is one of the most popular tourist spots of Hyderabad attracting not just devotees but almost everyone.

Ending the first day in Hyderabad with Dinner at Paradise Food Court

If you can’t tolerate spicy food, Paradise is the best option for Hyderabadi food at a reasonable rate. For vegetarians, veg biryani is available as well.

They also serve various kebab items and haleem. I would recommend Zafrani Biriyani, which uses plentiful saffron. They also serve lots of (less pleasing) Chinese and continental dishes.

There are over a dozen Paradise restaurants across the city including a large, modern branch at Khairatabad.

DAY 2:  Exploring Some Old World & New Age Icons in Your Hyderabad 4 Days Itinerary

After an exciting first day in the city, we were looking forward to the second day with equal eagerness. On our second day of Hyderabad 4 days itinerary, we explored something new and something old.

Golkonda Fort is a Heritage site that preserves the history of Telangana.

Visiting the Magnificient Golconda Fort in Hyderabad

Majestic Golkonda Fort is located in the city’s western parts. For those who are enamoured by stories of love, valor and perfidy, visit to the 16th-century fortress – Golconda Fort is highly recommended.

Golkonda is one of the most famous attractions in Hyderabad. If one claps his hand at the fort bottom part, its echoes can be felt even at the top of the structure.

During evening you can catch a glimpse of the jaw- dropping sunset view from the top most parts of this fortress. You can also enjoy the popular light and sound show.

Located near the Golconda Forts, the tombs offer a splendid look into the past.

Witness The Glory of Qutub Shahi Tombs

The Royal family tomb complex lies about 1km away from the north of the outer perimeter wall of Golkonda fort. It is a world-famous heritage site and consists of Tombs of seven Qutub Shahi Rulers.

The seven kings of Hyderabad and their families lie here, entombed by beautiful Iranian-styled arched tombs. Each was constructed in their lifetime so that after death the world could remember them.

You can also see the influence of Indian, Pathan, Deccan as well as Persian styles in the structure of Tombs.

Magnificent Cable-Stayed Bridge at Hi-Tech City deserves a Spot in your Hyderabad 4 Days Itinerary

After Qutb Shahi we set out to explore the new Hyderabad i.e. Hi-tech city or Cyberabad. It is one of the premier commercial hubs in Hyderabad. It is filled with office parks and is buzzing with Indian, Italian and BBQ restaurants.

Hyderabad added a new landmark with the opening of a cable-stayed bridge across Durgam Cheruvu lake in hi-tech city. The Durgam Cheruvu cable Bridge is another jewel in the city of pearls.

A key feature of the structure is architectural lighting, which attracts locals and tourists alike.  It is a must-visit sightseeing place in Hyderabad.

IKEA Store is not just a place for home furnishing but is also an amazing place to taste some authentic Swedish food.

The store is located in a hi-tech city and is India’s first such store. IKEA is the best place to purchase your good quality home furnishings at reasonable prices.

If you are love home furnishing as much as I do, I highly recommended seeing and experiencing the compelling designs of furniture, kitchen appliances and home accessories.

We found many items to be budget-friendly and purchased cutlery items for our dining table, lamps and lighting for living room and plants for the balcony. IKEA also has a huge collection of soft toys that made my son go awww so we purchased panda for him.

Witness & Shop for the hinterland’s art and handicrafts at Shilparamam

Shilparamam is a village-themed centre for arts and crafts, located in the hi-tech city. You can view and shop for some beautifully crafted goods here.

Apart from the handicrafts, there are plenty of activities that you can indulge in like boat riding, relishing some chaats & snacks, nature walk, etc.

Day 3: Spend the Day in and Around Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar Lake

The third day of our Hyderabad 4 days Itinerary was dedicated to exploring the places in and around the Hussain Sagar Lake.

Start the Day by Visiting Asia’s Largest Manmade lake- ‘Hussain Sagar’

This artificial Hussain Sagar Lake beautifies the city gracefully. At the lake centre, you will find a giant monolithic statue of Gautam Buddha.

The lake has become a popular recreational spot that attracts visitors of all age groups. For all the tourists visiting Hyderabad Husain Sagar is a must-visit place.

Regular boating facilities are available till the statue. We experienced the perfect adrenaline rush, by taking speed boating. The thrill of cruising through a speedboat on Hussain Sagar Lake was an unparalleled experience . The Lumbini Park adjoining the lake was quite an amazing place with people spending time in the greenery.

Take  a Stroll Along with the NTR Gardens

NTR Garden is a gorgeous recreation park for people of all age groups. It is situated in the close vicinity of the Hussain Sagar lake.

You can take a stroll in the park if time permits. I witnessed a lot of families hanging out in the park.

Enjoy a Meal On the Eateries Along the Necklace Road 

The necklace road is a boulevard adjoining the Hussain Sagar Lake and is one of the popular tourist spots.

If you are looking to enjoy snacks, lunch or dinner, you can head towards a number of restaurants and eateries. One of them is a waterfront restaurant located nearby to satiate your cravings.

Experience a Snowy Evening in Hyderabad at the Snow World 

Snow world is quite popular among the locals and the tourists alike. This is the only place in Hyderabad where it snows and that too throughout the year. Arranged at the lower tank bund road, behind the Indirapark, it is very close to Hussain Sagar lake.

We found it one of the intriguing places of interest in Hyderabad. It is an ideal spot to beat the burning warmth of a hot afternoon. The snow was fresh and clean. Our son was left spellbound by the figurines of polar bears, penguins, alpine trees and an igloo. He enjoyed various games such as Snow Merry-go-round, Snow volleyball and rides including Bumper Cars, Snow Play Area, Snow Tube and Sleigh Slide.

DAY 4:  Spend a Fun-Filled Day at Ramoji Film City

This was our last day in Hyderabad, therefore, we decided to dedicate the fourth day of our Hyderabad 4 Days Itinerary to exploring Ranoji film city.

Ramoji Film City is one of the best destinations to visit in Hyderabad.

The Pride of Hyderabad – Ramoji film city

Ramoji film city is a perfect place for all Bollywood and cinema lovers. One must try to reach out as early as possible to make the most of it.

We planned for one whole day at Ramoji and booked our tickets and pick-up online . We reached there at 9 am to spend the whole day watching the natural and artificial attractions including an amusement park.

It is a self-sustained enclosure which has got its own accommodation facilities. They run a handful of shows to keep visitors entertained and take you on a ride to cover a good part of the property. There are some excellent dining options within the premises as well.

Our tour of Hyderabad came to an end on the fourth day. I would rate this trip among the best historical and cultural experiences of my life. There are a lot more places to explore in Hyderabad if you have enough time to spare.

I travelled to Hyderabad along with my husband and child. Therefore, the budget breakdown is for 3 people.

Our 4 Day 3 Night Hyderabad Trip Budget Breakdown

Now that you have a handy Hyderabad 4 days itinerary, I would like to detail out the expenditure we incurred on the trip. We mostly travelled by auto and sometimes hired a cab.

Given below is the cost breakdown of our 4 Day 3 Night Hyderabad Trip. The cost is for 2 adults and one child.  This breakdown will help you frame your own budget.

Where to Stay on Your Hyderabad Trip?

Staying in Hyderabad is quite affordable! One can opt for a stay at paying guesthouses, OYO rooms, and budget hotels at economical rates.

We booked ourselves at Park Continental Hotel by Trance , Masab Tank. For our Hyderabad 4 Days itinerary, it was a good location for sightseeing and getting around. This relaxed hotel is 5 km from Birla Mandir and 25 km from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

They charged us INR 1,700 per night for two guests. The rates vary from season to season depending on occupancy and other factors.

Other Budget Options are also easily available starting at INR 750 and can go up to INR 4,000 per night. Some budget options are –

The lowest tariff in Hyderabad can be found if you stay on a Friday. The opposite is true for, Sunday, which is usually the most expensive day.

How to Travel To and Within Hyderabad?

Hyderabad is well connected by semi-luxury and luxury buses plying from major cities nearby.

However,  trains are the best mode of transport if you want to witness the changing culture, sceneries & terrains of India. Many fast and superfast trains connect major Indian cities and towns to Hyderabad.

If you are looking for something faster and convenient, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport operates multiple flights of all domestic carriers connecting 52 destinations.

Once you arrive in Hyderabad, there are many ways to explore the city. Different modes are available based on your choice such as cab, metro, bus, auto-rickshaw, etc.

What is the Best Time to Visit Hyderabad?

April to June is very hot in Hyderabad. July to September is the peak monsoon. November to February is dry, with warm days and cool evenings.

Therefore, I would suggest you plan a trip in the months from October to March since during these months the climate is moderate and ideal for sightseeing and moving around in the city. It is advisable to keep lighter clothes as it can be a little hot & humid, especially from noon to evening.

People, Culture and Communication in  Hyderabad

This city is as beautiful as the rainbow. People are welcoming and warm-hearted. Friendliness and ‘tehzeeb’ are part of local culture. People, in general, carry a lot of respect for elders and women.

The official language is Telugu, and in the old part of city Urdu is the most common language. However, most Hyderabadis understand Hindi and English perfectly well. You can survive without facing any language barrier.

A visit to Hyderabad will leave you satisfied culturally and visually.

Crucial Tips to Ensure A Lovely Experience in Your Hyderabad 4 Days Itinerary

Before I wrap up my blog, there are a few tips that I would like to share with you. These tips will ensure a hassle-free vacation.

1. Prepare a List – The best way to pack for a trip is to prepare a list of what are the essentials and then keep on checking the items as per the list. We took shoes with some extra grip and lighter clothes, as the place can be a little hot and humid.

We wanted to capture and preserve the memories and packed the DSLR, power bank, charger, laptop and some basic medicines.

2. Customs & Etiquettes – Follow customs, attire & etiquette by dressing conventionally, especially before entering any place of worship. It is advisable to wear decent clothes and remove shoes before entering.

To avoid inviting glances and sometimes rude remarks about your dress don’t wear sheer clothing, tank tops, or short skirts. The dressing should be appropriate such as traditional ethnic clothing similar to a Hyderabadi.

Everywhere in India etiquette matters a lot. For example, the left hand should not be used for pointing, giving, receiving or shaking someone’s hand.

3. Documentation -Carry on ID proof with you at all times. These documents are required for check-ins into hotels, for entry passes to public places. Also, Hyderabad is one of the major cities that is adapting safety precautions therefore always keep your IDs with you.

4. Monkey menace – Hyderabad has more than its fill of simians. They can snatch away the belongings such as small bags and cameras. Don’t carry food items, especially fruits which are visible. Carry your stuff carefully and avoid going close to places where lots of monkeys are present.

5. Petty criminals, Pickpockets and ScamRisks – Like every other city in India, in Hyderabad too you can expect pickpockets and snatchers in crowded places. It is highly advisable that you keep your belongings tightly secured by your side.

Vendors, and auto-rickshaw drivers may charge exorbitant rates for rides. It is better to keep money in cash and a handful of change with you. Always look for those vendors who display rate lists.

6. Money-saving Hacks -Since metro service is not available in all areas, if you are willing to save a bit of cash you can avoid autorickshaws. Opt for local buses instead. Autowallas tend to overcharge people who appear to be tourists. I will personally recommend booking shuttle services when traveling in a large group.

7.  Pavement Vendors and Markets – Avoid shopping for valuable things from street vendors. The whole city is full of pavement markets. You can find anything on pavements, ranging from books, dresses, bed sheets, shoes, jewellery, bangles, and utensils and to what not.

However, in general, the quality is always unreliable. Before buying any durable it is important to confirm the genuineness of the seller and the product.

My family trip to Hyderabad was a wonderful and refreshing experience. The Grandeur of monuments, brilliant architecture,  modernity, simplicity & warmth of people and mouthwatering cuisines will always stay with me.

3 Day Hyderabad Itinerary

Hyderabad itinerary day 1.

We arrived late in the afternoon on day 1 of our weekend getaway! After a quick stop at our hotel, we headed to view one of the iconic tourist spots in the city – Hussain Sagar (Lake)

Hussain Sagar is a heart shaped lake built by Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in the 1500s. It is spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometers and is fed by River Musi.

A large statue of the Gautama Buddha stands on Gibraltar Rock in the middle of the lake. It is quite a scene to view this statue from across the road, in the evenings.

This is an image from the pedestal on which the statue of Buddha stood. You can see the 24 chakra/wheel in the middle.

After a visit to the Lake, we went out for some drinks and dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe, followed by some local cuisines (biriyani take away)

There are tons of places in Hyderabad where you can have a relaxing and relishing dinner.

Hyderabad’s nightlife is decent as well – Liquids, Bottles and Chimney, Kismet, Altitude, The Club, Rain, etc are a few names to dance away your night!

Hyderabad Itinerary  Day 2 

After a quick breakfast, we started our second day in Hyderabad.

This day was packed with sightseeing adventure. First we headed to the Golkonda Fort.

Golkonda Fort was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Golconda which flourished in the 14th to 16th century. The kingdom of Golkonda rose into prominence in the 1100’s. Legend has it that a shepherd boy found an idol in the area and then king built a mud fort around it and it came to be known as Shepherd’s Hill.

This area eventually became a heated battleground between many dynasties. In the end Islamic Bahmani Sultanate won and made the fort a seat for their capital.

The Mughal prince Aurangzeb started to lay siege on the fort of Golconda, with the intent of claiming Hydebarad, the wealthy capital of the Qutub Shahi dynasty. The fortress proved to be as impregnable as its reputation claimed. Until now (after almost 800 years), the fort still stands as one of Hyderabad’s greatest architectural wonders.

One can view the entire city from the top of the hill. There are ample areas to walk around and great areas to relax, sit around in the gardens.

One of it’s greatest engineering marvels is the fantastic acoustic effects: one clap at a certain point below the entrance dome can be heard at the highest point of the pavilion almost a kilometer away.

People usually spend around 2 hours in the fort. There are photography events conducted here as well.Golconda Fort Timings: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM IST To enter the fort you are required to pay a minimal Golconda fort entry fee of Rs.5 ; it is Rs. 100 foreign tourists. You have to pay extra if you are planning to take your camera inside.

Next we headed to the  Taramati Baradari. 

Taramati Baradari is a historical pavilion built as part of Ibrahim Bagh, a Persian style garden built during the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah.

There is a love story associated with Taramati Baradari. It is believed that the then Sultan (prince) was smitten by a courtesan’s voice and he built this structure so that he can hear her singing from the Golkonda Fort (located about 1.6 kilometers away). That courtesan’s name was Taramati.

Enter the hall through any of its 12 doors and imagine the young Taramati singing here in the 17th century. 

Taramati Baradari pavilion has 12 doorways and was constructed to allow cross ventilation. Currently, the open pavilion also includes an air-cooled theatre with capacity of 500 people, open-air auditorium with capacity of 1600 people, a banquet Hall with capacity of 250, and multi-cuisine restaurant.

We spent about 2 hours here, lazying around and taking pictures.

After that we went to Laad Bazar to get a glimpse of the local Hyderabadi market and to eat more of the famous Biriyani

Laad Bazar is a famous market area in Hyderabad. Its located near the Charminar (which is my stop for tomorrow). Laad Bazar is known for its bangles, pearls and other jewellery

I mentioned about “ biriyani ”  a few times in this blog post. Its a rice dish, made with meat (chicken or goat), yogurt and spices. You should try the authentic biriyani from Hyderabad (there is vegetarian biriyani available too)

Hyderabad  Itinerary Day 3

Final day in Hyderabad. And we left the best for the last.

The fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah built the Charminar in 1591.

The English translation of the words Chār and Minar  means “Four Towers”. The towers on four corners are ornate minarets attached and supported by four grand arches that open into the streets. Charminar’s architectural style is Islamic and the structure is made up of limestone, granite and marble. You can go to the upper floor of the charminar by taking 149 winding steps leading to the top. There is a mosque located on the second floor as well.

There are many theories as to why the Charminar was built. However, it is widely accepted that Charminar was built at the center of the city, to commemorate the eradication of plague. Many believe it was built to commemorate the beginning of the second Islamic millennium year.  

The event was celebrated far and wide in the Islamic world, thus Qutb Shah founded the city of Hyderabad to celebrate the event and commemorate it with the construction of this building.

We spent about 4 hours at this location which included window shopping in the market area as well.

Being a Hyderabadi, it’s good to see that visitors have a great time exploring Hyderabad. But hey, you missed out on quite a few iconic places like the Salarjung museum and Ramoji Film city. I would recommend you to visit Hyderabad once more and cover these places as well. I loved a few of your photographs and how you tried to visit so many places in your limited time. Great write up.

Matching up to the distinct glory of the city is its mouth-watering cuisine that includes the iconic Hyderabadi biryani , kebabs , rolls, and more. A 2-day trip to Hyderabad can be a refreshing experience in itself but the only question is where do you start from?

Worry not, because we have compiled a comprehensive 2-day Hyderabad itinerary for you to explore the best attractions of the city .

9.00 am – 11.00 pm: Marvel at the architectural splendor of Golconda Fort

On the first day, tuck in a filling breakfast at your hotel and head out towards the majestic Golconda Fort, which was once home to the fabulous Kohinoor diamond. Spend some time exploring this medieval fort that features elaborate gateways, royal chambers, moveable bridges, stables, temples, mosques, and other structures.

• Timings : 8.00 am to 5.30 pm; every day
• Entry Fee : ₹15 for Indians; ₹ 200 for foreigners; ₹ 25 for still photography

Now, proceed to Qutub Shahi Tombs, another historical attraction in Hyderabad located a short distance away from the fort.

• By road: 10 minutes’ drive

11.15 am – 1.15 pm: Go for a quick tour of Qutub Shahi Tombs followed by lunch

The resting place of the rulers of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty, this tomb complex is located amidst the picturesque Ibrahim Bagh garden. The tombs, which count among the oldest monuments in Hyderabad, display a spectacular blend of Hindu, Persian, Deccan, and Pathan architectural styles.

• Timings: 30 am to 4.30 pm; closed on Fridays
• Entry Fee: ₹ 5 for kids; ₹ 10 for adults; ₹ 20 for still photography

Aren’t you exhausted by now? Why don’t you take a break and dig into a quick lunch at a nearby restaurant to replenish your energy levels?

After a satisfying lunch, make your way to Salar Jung Museum, one of the finest and largest museums in Hyderabad .

2.00 pm – 4.30 pm: Delve into the history of the region at Salar Jung Museum

Spread across two floors and divided into 38 galleries, Salar Jung Museum houses a treasure trove of priceless art pieces and artifacts from around the world. These include a bejeweled dagger of Mughal Emperor Jehangir, a set of ivory chairs belonging to Tipu Sultan, a decorated fruit knife of Noorjehan, and furniture pieces belonging to Napoleon and King Louis XIV.

• Entry Fee:  ₹ 20 for Indian citizens; ₹ 500 for foreigners; ₹ 50 still photography

Now it’s time to explore the most celebrated landmark in the City of Nizams – the one and only Charminar. 

• By road: 5 to 10 minutes’ drive

4.40 pm – 5.30 pm: Spend some time soaking in the charm of Charminar 

Charminar or the mosque of the four minarets is undoubtedly the finest example of Hyderabad’s cultural and architectural heritage. The imposing four-storied monument has a mosque located on its top floor. Constructed in the Islamic style of architecture, this 16 th -century monument offers a splendid view of the surrounding areas from the first floor.

• Timings : 9.30 am to 5.30 pm; every day
• Entry Fee : ₹ 5 for Indians; ₹ 100 for foreigners

Adding to the charm of the Charminar is the lively market and food stalls surrounding it. Go ahead and explore this area and its lanes where you get some of the best street food items in Hyderabad . 

5.30 pm – 6.30 pm: Shop around and relish some local treats in the Charminar Area

Often called the heart of Hyderabad, the Charminar area is where you can soak in the scenes and smells that best depict its matchless vibe. While here, don’t forget to shop for pearls, bangles, duppattas, etc. at the bustling Laad Bazaar aka Choodi Bazar. You can also binge on the famous Hyderabadi Dum Biryani and other delicacies at the street food joints dotting the area.

Hussain Sagar Lake, one of the top picnic spots and the most popular lake in Hyderabad , has a towering statue of Lord Buddha in its center. After spending some moments enjoying the stunning view of the lake, proceed to explore nearby attractions.

• Take a ferry ride to the Lord Buddha statue
• Enjoy laser show at Lumbini Park
• Drive down the Necklace Road

Tired, aren’t you? Bring an end to your day with a relaxing dinner at one of the nearby restaurants.

Start your second day in the City of Pearls with a leisurely breakfast at Café Niloufer. The café serves a host of freshly baked breakfast items, among which Osmania Biscuits, Irani Chai, and Malai Bun are crowd pullers.

• Timings : 4.30 am to 12.00 midnight; every day

Now that you are fueled up, proceed to your first stop on the second day – the magnificent Chowmahalla Palace.

• By road: 20 minutes’ drive

10.00 am – 12.30 pm: Capture the magnificence of Chowmahalla Palace

The grand Chowmahalla Palace once served as the administrative center cum residence of the Nizams. Spread over 12 acres of land, the structure includes two courtyards, fountains, gardens, and a darbar hall with a raised marble area that once served as the royal seat. While here, you can shop for some showpieces at the souvenir shop located within the palace complex.

• Timings : 10.00 am to 5.00 pm; closed on Fridays
• Entry Fee : ₹ 10 for kids (below 12 years); ₹ 80 for Indian adults; ₹ 200 for foreigners; ₹ 50 for photography; ₹ 200 for videography

Your next stop is Mecca Masjid, another structure showcasing the architectural legacy of Hyderabad.

• By road: 5 minutes’ drive

12.45 pm – 2.30 pm: Take a tour of the majestic Mecca Masjid followed by lunch

One of the largest and oldest mosques in India, this 17 th -century masjid is a fine blend of architectural beauty, exquisite design, and intricate motifs. The central arch of the mosque was built using bricks made of soil sourced from the holy land of Mecca.

Once you are done exploring this wonderful structure, it’s time to enjoy the culinary delights of Hyderabad at one of the nearby restaurants.

The spellbinding Purani Haveli, which was the erstwhile residence of the Nizams, showcases the timeless beauty of European architecture. Make sure to explore the Nizam’s Museum at the palace where you can find many exhibits including the sixth Nizam’s wardrobe, which is the largest one of its kind in the world.

Now, it’s time to take a short break from history and seek nirvana at the Birla Temple, one of the must-visit temples in India .   

4.45 pm – 6.00 pm: Spend some serene moments at the stunning Birla Temple

Located on a green hill, the white structure of the Birla Temple draws instant attention and offers a breath-taking view of the surroundings. The architecture of the temple showcases a blend of South Indian and North Indian styles.

"Traffic Restrictions in Hyderabad for Vice President's Visit" At 5 pm – The convoy after the program will proceed to Raj Bhavan via Hakimpet Y Junction, Bollaram check post, Alwal, Lothkunta, Trimulgherry cross roads, Karkhana.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police in view of the visit of Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankar, to the city on Friday announced traffic restrictions between 3 pm and 9 pm in different areas.

At 3 pm – The Vice President convoy will proceed to Genome Valley, Turkapally via PNT Flyover, Rasoolpura, CTO, Plaza X Roads, Tivoli X Roads, Secunderabad Club In gate, Karkhana, Trimulgherry X Roads, Lothkunta, Telangana Thalli Statue, Alwal, Ayyappa Swamy Temple, Bollarum check post, Hakimpet Y Junction and Genome Valley where a program is scheduled.

• Coordination between treasury benches and oppn needed for vibrant democracy: Vice President

At 5 pm – The convoy after the program will proceed to Raj Bhavan via Hakimpet Y Junction, Bollaram check post, Alwal, Lothkunta, Trimulgherry cross roads, Karkhana.

Secunderabad club, Plaza X Roads, PNT Flyover, Begumpet flyover, Greenlands, ITC Kakatiya, Rajiv Gandhi Statue (Monappa Island) left turn, Yashoda Hospital, MMTS, Raj Bhavan. At 7.10 pm.

The Vice President of India will leave Raj Bhavan and proceed to Hitex Exhibition Center, via V V Statue, Eenadu Building, Old KCP, Ansari Manzil, Taj Krishna Junction, Road No. 1/7, Road No. 1/ 4 NFCL Junction SNT Junction, Sagar Society, NTR Bhavan Junction, Jubilee Check Post, Road No. 45 Junction, Road No. 45 Flyover, Cable Bridge and Hitex Exhibition Centre.

At 8 pm – The convoy will proceed to Begumpet from Hitex Exhibition Centre via Cable Bridge, Road No. 45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check Post, NTR Bhavan, Sagar Society, SNT Junction, NFCL Junction, Punjagutta flyover, Praja Bhavan, Green Lands flyover, Begumpet flyover, HPS, Shyamlal building, Under PNT flyover left turn, Begumpet Airport. The traffic police requested the citizens to take note of the restrictions and plan their journey accordingly.

Police issue traffic advisory for Dhankar’s Hyderabad visit

HYDERABAD: In view of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar’s visit to Hyderabad, the city traffic police have announced road diversions in various parts of the city between 2 pm and 9 pm.

As the V-P will be travelling to Genome Valley at around 3 pm, traffic restrictions will be in place at PNT flyover, Rasoolpura, CTO, Plaza X Roads, Tivoli X Roads, Secunderabad Club in-gate, Karkhana, Trimulgherry X Roads, Lothkunta, Telangana Talli Statue, Alwal, Ayyappa Swamy Temple, Bolarum checkpost and Hakimpet Y Junction.

Later at 7.10 pm, he will travel from Raj Bhavan to Hitex via VV Statue, Old KCP, Ansari Manzil, Taj Krishna Junction, NTR Bhavan junction, Jubilee Road No. 45 flyover and cable bridge. .

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad traffic police have advised commuters to avoid the Rajiv Rahadari to Bharath Biotech and Koltur village to Bharath Biotech routes between 2 pm and 6 pm.

Commuter were also asked to avoid the Cable Bridge and Cyber Tower junction.

Temporary ban on drones, RC aircraft

Noting threat to public peace, Cyberabad Commissioner of Police (CP) Avinash Mohanty issued an order placing a temporary ban on drones, paragliders and remote-controlled aircraft in Alwal, Genome Valley and Madhapur.

JP Nadda to visit Telangana, hold meetings in Hyderabad on April 29

Telangana is going to the ballot on May 13, as per the schedule released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) chief JP Nadda will visit Telangana on April 29 to boost the party’s chances in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state.

The saffron party in a press release informed that Nadda will preside at public meetings in Kothagudem (10 am), Mahabubabad (12 pm) and will be in Malkajgiri and Quthbullapur in the evening.

Union home minister Amit Shah conducted a public meeting in Siddipet on April 25 in support of the party’s Medak Lok Sabha candidate M Raghunandan Rao.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be in Telangana on April 30, May 3 and 4 for the campaign.

On April 30, he will attend a public meeting in Andole followed by an interaction with IT employees in Serlingampally, Hyderabad along with meetings with notable individuals from various fields in the city.

On May 3, he will address public meetings in Warangal, Bhuvanagiri and Nalgonda. On May 4, the Prime Minister will address meetings in Narayanpet and Vikarabad, the party said.
