Why wont my iPad play sound from a website

It says it mutes the website because it auto plays the sounds and blocks the sound and it irritates me because it has been a problem and some good websites can’t change it so it’s muted they should make allow auto play sound an option but it’s not been changed and now it’s 13.3 and it’s been a problem for months

Thank you for the additional information regarding your device.

I would start by resetting all of your settings on your device. Do keep in mind that this reverts all of your settings to the way they were out of the box.

The Mac guide for autoplay was provided due to the post being in a discussion for Safari on Mac.

Do you mind providing what content is not autoplaying? There are some websites/media websites that disable autoplay themselves for the browser i.e. YouTube.

It is pretty much factory settings already but there are other people that have the same problem, iOS changed some things on the iOS 13 update and things that have sound start right away it mutes it for no reason even YouTube had to change there browser edition so it wouldn’t be messed up is there a setting that I can change to fix my audio problem on my game.

It’s called eclipse and it’s a classic gb,gbc, gba, and nes emulator and the sound used to work until iOS 13 when they blocked auto play sound on iOS.

Additionally, we'll discuss the importance of keeping your Safari browser and iOS system up to date, as well as the significance of ensuring website compatibility with your iPad's specifications.

Furthermore, we'll explore the potential benefits of restarting your iPad as a simple yet effective troubleshooting step, and we'll emphasize the value of seeking support from the website's help resources or reaching out to Apple's support channels for further assistance.

By the end of this guide, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and practical insights needed to troubleshoot sound-related issues on Safari and enjoy seamless audio experiences while browsing the web on your iPad. Let's dive into the troubleshooting process and uncover the solutions that can help you regain access to the auditory components of your favorite websites.

Check Volume and Mute Settings

The first step in troubleshooting sound issues on Safari for iPad involves checking the device's volume and mute settings. It may seem obvious, but overlooking this basic step is surprisingly common. Start by ensuring that the volume is turned up and not muted. To do this, locate the physical volume buttons on the side of your iPad and adjust them to increase the volume. Additionally, check the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen to confirm that the volume slider is not set to the minimum level or muted.

If the volume appears to be at an adequate level and not muted, it's also important to verify that the mute switch, located on the side of the iPad above the volume buttons, is not activated. When the mute switch is engaged, it prevents sound from playing, even if the volume is turned up. Ensure that the switch is in the off position, indicated by the absence of the orange color, to allow sound to play from your iPad.

Furthermore, if you're using headphones or external speakers, check that they are properly connected and functioning. Sometimes, sound issues can arise due to faulty or improperly connected audio output devices. Disconnect and reconnect the audio accessories to ensure a secure connection, and test the sound output to see if the issue persists.

By meticulously examining the volume and mute settings, as well as the status of any connected audio devices, you can eliminate these basic factors as potential causes of the sound problem. If the issue persists after confirming that the volume is up, the device is not muted, and any external audio accessories are properly connected, it's time to explore additional troubleshooting steps to identify and resolve the underlying issue.

Taking the time to thoroughly assess the volume and mute settings sets the foundation for a systematic approach to troubleshooting sound issues on Safari for iPad. By ruling out these fundamental factors, you can proceed with confidence to explore other potential causes and solutions, ultimately working towards restoring the audio functionality for an enhanced browsing experience.

Check Website Permissions

When encountering sound issues on specific websites while using Safari on your iPad, it's essential to consider the website permissions as a potential factor contributing to the problem. Websites often require permission to access certain features, including audio playback, and if these permissions are not granted or have been inadvertently revoked, it can result in a lack of sound during your browsing sessions.

To address this, begin by checking the website permissions within Safari. Start by tapping the "AA" icon located in the address bar of the website where you are experiencing sound issues. This will open a menu that includes various site-specific settings and permissions. Look for the "Website Settings" option and tap on it to access the site's permissions.

Within the website settings, ensure that the permission for accessing audio is enabled. If it is currently disabled, toggle the switch to grant the website permission to play audio. Additionally, you can review and adjust other relevant permissions, such as camera and microphone access, if applicable to the website's features.

It's important to note that Safari on iPad offers granular control over website permissions, allowing users to manage individual website settings to enhance privacy and security. By verifying and adjusting the permissions for the specific website where sound issues are occurring, you can potentially resolve the audio playback issue and ensure that the website has the necessary permissions to deliver a seamless multimedia experience.

In some cases, websites may prompt users to grant permissions for audio playback upon initial access. If you inadvertently denied the permission request, the website might be restricted from playing sound. To address this, you can revisit the website and look for any permission prompts that may appear. If prompted, grant the necessary permissions to enable audio playback and enhance your interaction with the website's content.

By checking and adjusting website permissions within Safari, you can proactively address potential restrictions that may be hindering sound playback on specific websites. This proactive approach empowers you to fine-tune the permissions granted to individual websites, ultimately optimizing the browsing experience and ensuring that audio features function as intended.

Taking the time to review and manage website permissions aligns with Safari's commitment to user privacy and control, allowing you to tailor the permissions granted to websites based on your preferences and needs. By leveraging these built-in capabilities, you can troubleshoot sound issues related to website permissions and pave the way for an enriched multimedia experience while browsing on your iPad.

Clear Safari Cache and Data

Clearing the cache and data in Safari on your iPad can serve as a valuable troubleshooting step when encountering sound issues on specific websites. The cache consists of temporary files and data stored by the browser to enhance the speed and performance of web browsing. However, over time, this cache can accumulate outdated or corrupted data, potentially leading to various browsing issues, including sound-related problems.

To initiate the process of clearing Safari's cache and data on your iPad, begin by accessing the Settings app. Scroll down and locate the "Safari" option within the list of installed apps. Tap on "Safari" to reveal a range of settings and options related to the browser's functionality.

Within the Safari settings, scroll down to find the "Clear History and Website Data" option. Tapping on this option will prompt a confirmation dialog, asking if you want to clear the browsing history, cookies, and other browsing data. Selecting "Clear History and Data" will effectively remove the accumulated cache and data stored by Safari, potentially resolving any underlying issues affecting sound playback on specific websites.

It's important to note that clearing the cache and data in Safari will also remove your browsing history and stored website data, including login credentials and preferences. As a result, you may need to re-enter login information and revisit website settings after performing this action. However, the potential benefits of resolving sound issues and improving overall browsing performance often outweigh the inconvenience of re-entering certain data.

After clearing the cache and data, revisit the website where you previously encountered sound issues and test the audio playback. By removing outdated or corrupted data from the browser's cache, you create a fresh browsing environment that can contribute to resolving sound-related problems and enhancing the overall functionality of Safari on your iPad.

By proactively managing the cache and data in Safari, you can optimize the browser's performance and address potential issues that may be impacting sound playback on specific websites. This proactive approach aligns with best practices for maintaining a smooth and efficient browsing experience, ultimately empowering you to troubleshoot sound-related issues and enjoy seamless audio interactions while exploring the web on your iPad.

Update Safari and iOS

Ensuring that both Safari and the iOS operating system on your iPad are up to date is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and addressing potential issues, including sound-related concerns. Regular updates introduce bug fixes, security enhancements, and feature improvements that can directly impact the functionality of Safari and its ability to deliver seamless audio experiences while browsing the web.

To check for updates to Safari, open the App Store on your iPad and navigate to the "Updates" tab. If a Safari update is available, it will be listed here along with other app updates. Tap the "Update" button next to Safari to initiate the installation of the latest version. It's important to stay vigilant about installing Safari updates as they become available, as they often include fixes for known issues that could be affecting sound playback and overall browsing performance.

In addition to updating Safari, keeping your iPad's iOS version current is equally essential. To check for iOS updates, go to the "Settings" app, select "General," and then tap on "Software Update." If a new iOS version is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. These updates not only introduce new features and enhancements but also address underlying system-level issues that could impact the performance of Safari and its ability to handle audio playback on websites.

By ensuring that both Safari and iOS are running the latest versions, you can leverage the benefits of improved stability, security, and compatibility. This proactive approach minimizes the likelihood of encountering sound-related issues stemming from outdated software components and maximizes the potential for a smooth and reliable browsing experience on your iPad.

Regularly checking for and applying updates to Safari and iOS reflects a proactive stance toward maintaining the health and functionality of your browsing environment. By staying current with the latest software releases, you demonstrate a commitment to optimizing the performance of Safari and your iPad as a whole, ultimately contributing to a more enjoyable and trouble-free browsing experience.

Incorporating the habit of routinely updating Safari and iOS aligns with best practices for device maintenance and security, ensuring that your iPad remains equipped with the latest improvements and fixes to support uninterrupted audio playback and overall browsing satisfaction.

Check for Website Compatibility

When encountering sound issues on specific websites while using Safari on your iPad, it's essential to consider the compatibility of the website with your device and browser. Website compatibility encompasses various factors, including the use of modern web technologies, adherence to industry standards, and optimization for diverse browsing environments. In some instances, sound-related problems may arise due to compatibility issues between the website's audio features and the Safari browser on your iPad.

To address website compatibility concerns, start by evaluating the nature of the website and its multimedia content. Some websites may rely on advanced audio playback technologies or interactive elements that require specific browser capabilities to function seamlessly. If the website is designed with cutting-edge features that are not fully supported by the version of Safari on your iPad, it could lead to sound-related issues such as audio distortion, intermittent playback, or complete absence of sound.

Additionally, consider the responsiveness of the website to different screen sizes and device orientations. A website that is not optimized for iPad or Safari may encounter compatibility challenges, potentially impacting the delivery of audio content. Elements such as audio players, embedded media, and interactive sound-based features may not behave as intended if the website is not tailored to accommodate the unique characteristics of Safari on your iPad.

Furthermore, the use of outdated web technologies or non-standard coding practices by certain websites can contribute to compatibility issues with Safari. As web standards evolve and browsers introduce new features and capabilities, websites that do not adhere to these standards may encounter compatibility hurdles, affecting various aspects of the browsing experience, including audio playback.

To mitigate website compatibility concerns related to sound issues, consider alternative web browsers available on the App Store that may offer enhanced compatibility with specific websites. While Safari is the default browser on iPad, exploring alternative browsers can provide insights into whether the sound issues are specific to Safari's compatibility with certain websites. Experimenting with different browsers can help identify whether the sound problems persist across multiple browsers or are isolated to Safari, shedding light on potential compatibility factors.

By evaluating website compatibility in relation to sound issues, you can gain valuable insights into the underlying factors impacting audio playback on specific websites. This proactive approach empowers you to identify compatibility challenges and explore potential solutions, ultimately contributing to a more seamless and enjoyable multimedia experience while browsing the web on your iPad.

Restart iPad

Restarting your iPad can serve as a simple yet effective troubleshooting step when encountering sound issues on specific websites while using Safari. This straightforward approach can help address various underlying factors that may be contributing to the absence of sound, potentially restoring the audio functionality and enhancing your overall browsing experience.

To initiate a restart of your iPad, begin by pressing and holding the power button located on the top or side of the device, depending on the iPad model. After a few seconds, a slider will appear on the screen, prompting you to power off the device. Drag the slider to the right to turn off the iPad completely. Once the iPad is powered off, wait for a few moments before pressing and holding the power button again until the Apple logo appears, indicating that the device is restarting.

Restarting your iPad can effectively clear temporary system glitches, refresh system processes, and reset various hardware and software components that may be contributing to the sound issues. This simple action can often resolve transient issues related to audio playback on websites, providing a quick and convenient solution to the problem.

Furthermore, restarting the iPad offers a holistic approach to troubleshooting, as it addresses potential software and system-level factors that could be impacting sound functionality. By initiating a clean reboot of the device, you create an opportunity for the operating system and Safari browser to reset and recalibrate, potentially resolving any underlying issues affecting audio playback.

In addition to addressing sound-related concerns, restarting your iPad can also contribute to overall system performance and stability. It allows the device to clear temporary memory and system caches, potentially improving the responsiveness and functionality of various features, including audio playback within Safari.

By incorporating the practice of periodically restarting your iPad, you can proactively maintain the health and efficiency of the device, while also addressing transient issues that may impact sound playback on specific websites. This proactive approach aligns with best practices for device maintenance and troubleshooting, offering a straightforward yet impactful method for resolving sound-related concerns and optimizing the browsing experience on your iPad.

Contact Website Support or Apple Support

If you've diligently explored the preceding troubleshooting steps and the sound issues persist when accessing specific websites on Safari for your iPad, reaching out to the website's support resources or seeking assistance from Apple's support channels can provide valuable insights and potential solutions.

Contacting the support team of the website where you are experiencing sound problems can offer direct access to resources dedicated to addressing user concerns. Many websites feature support portals, help centers, or contact forms through which users can report issues and seek assistance. By reaching out to the website's support team, you can convey the details of the sound-related issues you are encountering, providing them with the opportunity to investigate and potentially resolve any underlying technical issues affecting audio playback on their platform.

In cases where the sound issues appear to be specific to Safari or iOS, engaging with Apple's support channels can offer specialized guidance and technical expertise. Apple's support resources include online support articles, community forums, and the option to schedule appointments at Apple Stores or with Apple's support staff. By describing the sound-related issues to Apple's support representatives, you can benefit from their in-depth knowledge of the Safari browser, iOS system, and potential compatibility challenges, receiving tailored recommendations and troubleshooting guidance to address the specific concerns you are facing.

When reaching out to website support or Apple support, it's beneficial to provide detailed information about the sound issues, including the specific websites where the problems occur, any error messages encountered, and the troubleshooting steps you have already attempted. Top 7 Ways to Fix Sound Not Working on iPad

iPad remains an ideal device for multimedia needs on the go. Credit to the company, Apple has jam-packed iPad models with some of the best sounding speakers. But what if the speakers fail to work in the first place? Here are the ways to fix the sound not working on the iPad error.

Fix Sound Not Working on iPad

Apart from binge-watching the latest Ozark or Ted Lasso season, iPads are most-useful for taking a quick Google Meet, FaceTime, or Zoom call . Sound not working will leave you with a broken experience though. Let’s fix the issue once and for all.

Before we move to any advanced solution to fix the iPad sound issues, you need to check off a couple of basic steps.

  • First, you need to check volume levels for ringer and alerts in iPad Settings. Head to Settings > Sounds and make sure to increase the volume using the slider.
  • You can also manually turn up the volume using the physical volume buttons.

If the sound is still not working, use the tricks below.

1. Check Connected Bluetooth Devices

We faced this scenario recently. When speakers stop working on our iPad Pro, we double-checked saved Bluetooth devices. We found that the iPad Pro automatically got connected to an external speaker in another room. The speakers are working as expected here, you simply need to disconnect Bluetooth devices from your iPad. Here’s how.

Swipe down from the upper right corner and open the Control Center menu. Disable the Bluetooth function and try playing a sound again. For iPad models with a physical home button, you need to swipe up from the bottom to access the Control Center.

Alternatively, you can use the steps below and remove connected devices from your iPad.

1. Open Settings on your iPad.

2. Go to the Bluetooth menu.

3. Check saved devices and tap on the i button beside it.

select information button

4. Select Forget This Device from the following menu.

forget device on ipad

2. Check iPad Case

If any of the iPad speakers are blocked by the case, you will notice a mono sound. Normally, this isn’t an issue with established case brands. But some users might go with unknown cheap brands from Amazon and ends up with a product that has uneven holes or cutouts.

Closely inspect the iPad case and ensure that speakers aren’t blocked by it.

3. Clean iPad Speakers

If you are living in a dusty area, the surroundings might have infected your tablet speakers with dust and other particles. You can use earbuds or a slow air blower to clean speakers.

You shouldn’t use painters’ tape (the glue might further damage speakers) or high-speed airflow (it will damage iPad internals) to clean iPad speakers.

4. Disable Mute in Meetings

Most video conferencing apps come with a dedicated mute button. If the other person in the meeting has used it, you can’t hear anything on your side. Ask the attendees to disable the mute button (enable microphone) and try again.

enable microphone in video calling apps on iPad

5. Check the Bluetooth Device

Are you trying to connect the iPad to a Bluetooth speaker and facing issues with iPad sound? You need to recheck the Bluetooth device and turn up the volume on it. You can also check the battery levels on the connected device and put it on a charge if required.

6. Adjust Mono Audio

Mono audio helps you even out the sound volume on both the left and right speakers. If you think the audio is uneven on both sides, you can use the mono audio option that’s part of accessibility on iPadOS.

1. Open Settings on iPad.

2. Go to the Accessibility menu.

3. Tap on Audio & Visual .

select audio

4. Enable Mono Audio to combine the left and right channels to play the same content. You can also use the slider at the bottom to adjust the audio volume.

check mono audio

7. Force Restart iPad

If the sound is still not working on your iPad, it’s time to force restart it.

There are different ways to force restart an iPad. For iPad models without a home button, you need to follow the steps below.

1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the power button.

2. Press and release another volume button.

3. Press and hold the power button.

force restart ipad to fix sound not working

Once the Apple logo shows up, release the top button.

If you have an iPad with a home button, you can press and home the power button and home button at the same time and release it after the Apple logo appears.

Enjoy Crystal Clear Sound on iPad

If none of the tricks are working, you need to update iPadOS to the latest version. If you are still facing iPad sound not working issues, you have no option but to book an appointment at the nearest Apple center.

Resolve Sound Problems on the iPad

Cut through some iOS confusion to resolve challenges with your iPad's sound

ipad safari sound not working

  • University of Texas at Arlington

Sound problems on an iPad can be hard to troubleshoot because you might hear sound from one app one day but then it's muted the next. Or maybe you're using the app for a moment, open another app, and then return to the first one to find that it's suddenly no longer making any sound.

These troubleshooting steps govern all currently supported iPads running any supported version of iOS.

How to Fix a Muted iPad

If you've already tried  rebooting the iPad  but found that to be of no help, and you know that there isn't a pair of headphones plugged into the headphone jack, there are a couple other things you can try.

Unmute the iPad : Given that there's a button for muting your iPad right within the easy-to-access  Control Center , it's easy to understand how you might accidentally mute the iPad. What's strange is that even with a muted iPad, some apps might still make noise just fine regardless of that setting.

  • Open Control Center . If you have an iPad without Face ID, you open Control Center by swiping up from the bottom, but if your iPad does have Face ID, swipe down from the upper right corner.
  • Look for the mute button . It's muted if it's highlighted, just tap it once to unmute the iPad. The mute button looks like a bell (it might have a slash through it on some iPads).

Turn up the volume from within the app : It's possible that the system volume is turned up and the iPad is not muted, but the app itself needs the volume turned up. This glitch happens if you're using one app to play sounds but then open another that also requires sound, and then return to the first.

  • Open the app that isn't making any noise.
  • Use the volume up button on the side of the iPad to turn the volume up, but make sure you do so  with the app open .

Check the sound within the app's settings : Most video game apps have their own volume control, and when this is the case, they normally let you mute the game sounds or even just the background music. It's possible that you have one or both of those settings turned on, effectively muting the app.

Access the settings for that app (i.e. open the app and look for a "Settings" area) and see if you can toggle the sound back on.

Check the side switch : Older iPad models have a switch on the side that can mute and unmute the tablet. The switch is right beside the volume controls, but if it doesn't mute the iPad when you toggle it, it might instead be configured to lock the screen orientation. It is possible to change the behavior of the iPad side switch within settings if you want to use it to mute or unmute your iPad.

Can’t figure out why sound is not working on your iPad?

The iPad has become a universal device for entertainment, productivity, and communication.

Whether you are watching movies or making video calls, sound is an essential component of your iPad experience.

sound not working on ipad

So when you encounter sound problems on your iPad, it can disrupt your productivity.

In this guide, we’re going to show you what to do if sound is not working on your iPad.

Let’s jump right in!

1. Restart Your iPad.

When you use your iPad for extended periods, its memory can get overloaded.

When this happens, temporary data stored in the system memory can get corrupted. This can cause things like sounds to stop working properly.

Restarting your iPad should give it a fresh start, clearing out stuck processes and data in the memory.

Here’s how you can restart your iPad without a home button:

  • Press and hold the Volume Down and Top buttons until the ‘Slide to Power Off’ screen appears.
  • Now, tap on the Power icon and drag the slider to the right.
  • Wait for 5 to 10 seconds to ensure your iPad is completely turned off.
  • Hold the Top button until you see the Apple logo .

sound not working on ipad

Try playing music or watching videos on your iPad to check if the problem is solved.

2. Check if Your iPad Is in Silent Mode.

When you enable silent mode on your iPad, it stops all sound from playing through the speakers.

If you can’t hear alerts or notifications from your iPad, check if silent mode is active.

For iPads without a ringer switch:

  • Go to Settings > Sounds . Drag the slider to set the volume for the ringer and alerts.
  • If you use Assistive Touch , open it and tap on Device > Unmute .

Ringer Volume

If your iPad has a ringer switch:

  • Toggle the Ringer Switch so the orange indicator is not showing.
  • If you use Assistive Touch , access it and tap Device > Unmute .

Ringer Switch

Observe if your iPad will now play sound from notifications and alerts.

3. Disable Mono Audio.

If you are using a surround audio system, you may have noticed that some speakers are not working.

This indicates that mono audio is enabled on your iPad. Mono audio combines stereo output, which can cause problems on 5.1 or 7.1 surround systems.

Here’s how you can disable mono audio:

  • Open Settings on your iPad.
  • Go to Accessibility > Audio / Visual .
  • Look for Mono Audio and tap the toggle switch to disable it.

Mono Audio

Try playing sound through your surround system to see if all speakers work.

4. Disable Do Not Disturb.

Do Not Disturb is a setting on your iPad that silences alerts, calls, and notifications. When this feature is enabled, your iPad won’t make any sounds when you receive messages.

Follow the steps below to check if Do Not Disturb is enabled on your iPad:

  • Launch Settings on your device.
  • Tap on Focus and go to the Do Not Disturb tab.
  • Find the Turn On Automatically option and disable it.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb

You can also disable Do Not Disturb through the Control Center. Swipe downwards from the upper right corner of your screen and tap on the moon icon.

Once done, see if your iPad will now play sound when you receive a notification.

5. Check Your Volume.

While this may sound very simple, some users tend to forget that they’ve turned down their iPad’s volume. This explains why sound is not working on their iPads.

Before panicking, press the Volume Up button on your iPad to check if its volume is properly set.

6. Disable Bluetooth.

There are instances when your iPad encounters temporary errors and gets stuck in Bluetooth mode.

When this happens, it will continue to send audio to your wireless audio device even if it’s not connected. To confirm if this is the case, try disabling Bluetooth on your iPad.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • First, open Settings on your iPad.
  • Access the Bluetooth tab.
  • Tap on the toggle switch beside Bluetooth to disable it.

sound not working on ipad

Once done, try listening to music to check if the problem is solved.

7. Restart Applications With No Sounds.

If you encounter sound problems on your iPad when using specific applications, the issue could be with the app.

To rule this out, close the application with no sounds and relaunch it.

  • Swipe upwards from the bottom of your display until the app switcher appears.
  • Look for the app that you want to close.
  • Drag or flick it upwards until it is removed from the list.

Go back to your home screen and relaunch the app. Check if sound is now working for the application.

8. Update Your iPad.

There might be a problem with the version of iPadOS you’re using that is related to sound or speakers.

See if there are available updates for your iPad and install them to patch bugs and errors.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Launch the Settings app on your iPad.
  • Navigate to General > Software Update .
  • If there’s an available update tap Download and Install .

sound not working on ipad

  • Make sure that your iPad has at least 50% battery before installing an update.
  • Your iPad should be connected to Wi-Fi to install updates.
  • While updating your iPad, it may restart several times. This is normal and you don’t have to do anything.
  • Updates usually take around 5 to 15 minutes to install.

Try playing sound on your iPad afterward to check if the problem is solved.

9. Reset iPad Settings.

If sound is still not working on your iPad, we recommend resetting its settings.

A third-party application might have messed up with your iPad’s configurations or you mistakenly changed some settings.

Resetting your iPad’s settings should roll back any changes that caused the problem.

Here’s how you can reset your settings:

  • Go to Settings on your iPad.
  • Now, tap on General .
  • Access the Transfer or Reset iPad tab.
  • Tap on Reset .
  • Choose Reset All Settings and follow the prompts.

sound not working on ipad

  • Your iPhone will immediately restart upon resetting your network configurations.
  • It may appear to be stuck in the Apple logo. Wait for the process to complete which usually takes around 5 to 10 minutes.

Try listening to music afterward to check if you’ll hear sounds coming out of your iPad.

10. Contact Apple.

If none of the solutions above worked, your iPad could be suffering from a hardware issue.

We recommend bringing your device to the nearest Apple Store to have it checked. Your iPad’s speakers may have failed or there’s something wrong with the audio controller.

sound not working on ipad

Before bringing in your iPad, check if it’s still covered by warranty so you know your options.

If you have just purchased your iPad, you might still be able to ask for a replacement or refund if it’s less than 14 days since you received it.

That ends our guide on what to do if sound is not working on your iPad. If you have questions, please leave a comment below, and we’ll do our best to help.

If this guide helped you, please share it.

Top 12 Ways to Fix Safari Not Working on iPhone and iPad

Apple’s ingenious web browser, Safari, was developed in 2003 and received many praises. However, Google responded with Chrome and many migrated to it as Safari had bugs . Although it has improved a lot over years, sometimes the web browser stops working. If you’re facing this issue, here’re twelve fixes for Safari not working on iPhone and iPad.

Safari Not Working on iPhone and iPad

Following are some of the most common methods that have worked to troubleshoot Safari. We recommend you try every method, except the Reset iPhone option which should be used as a last resort. We have provided detailed steps for each method, but let us start with the basics.

Why Is Safari Not Working On iPhone and iPad

Safari might not work for a lot of reasons, but the most common issue is the app not being able to connect to the internet. This is probably because you are not connected to a good internet connection, or there are a few misconfigurations on your iPhone settings that are preventing Safari from doing so.

Fortunately, there are a few effective methods to fix the issue. As you start reading the next section of this article, you will find a detailed procedure to fix Safari on your device.

How to Fix Safari Not Working on iPhone and iPad

Below are twelve easy methods to fix Safari. Most of these will resolve the issue within a few steps only, and therefore will not consume a lot of time.

We also came across a lot of users across forums suggesting toggling a few features off/on to fix the issue. So, let us take a look at all of these methods in detail. We can start by simply trying to restart the device

1. Restart iPhone or iPad

Simply trying to restart your device will fix most issues, and it can probably fix Safari not working as well. Here’s how you can restart your iPhone or iPad.

Step 1:  First, shut down your device.

  • On iPhone X and above : Press and hold the volume down and the side button.
  • On iPhone SE 2nd or 3rd gen, 7, and 8 series : Press and hold the side button.
  • On iPhone SE 1st gen, 5s, 5c, or 5 : Hold the power button at the top.
  • On iPad : Hold the power button at the top.

Restart iPhone

Step 2:  Now, drag the power slider to turn off the device.

Step 3:  Next, turn on your device by pressing and holding the power button on your iPhone.

If it’s a software issue, restarting the device should fix your Safari not working issue. If it doesn’t, try tweaking a few settings shown in the next few fixes and see if they help.

2. Turn off Safari Suggestions

We’re not entirely sure how this fixes the issue, but a lot of users reported that doing this restored the functionality of their browser. Here’s how you can turn off Safari Search Suggestions on iPhone or iPad.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and open Safari

Open iPhone Settings

Step 2: Toggle off ‘Search Engine Suggestions’.

That is how you can disable Search Engine Suggestions. If the issue persists, you need to check if Safari is limited by any Screen Time settings.

3. Edit Your Screen Time Settings

To provide digital well-being controls to the user, Apple has an option to set a limit to the duration of any app being used. If you’ve enabled Screen Time for Safari , it cannot be used once you exhaust the set limit. Here’s how you can remove the limit to ensure Safari works as usual on iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and select Screen Time.

Step 2: You need to select App Limits.

4. Check Cellular Settings for Safari

If you have turned off cellular data access for Safari, and are trying to use Safari on mobile data, it won’t work. Therefore, you need to remove the restrictions. Here’s how you can do it.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and select Cellular.

5. Clear Safari History and Data

If you have been using Safari for a long time, it will accumulate a lot of website data. This can slow down Safari and affect the web browsing performance. Hence, it is a good practice to clear browsing history and cache from Safari every fortnight. Here’s how you can do it.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and select Safari.

As mentioned earlier, a major reason why Safari does not work on iPhone and iPad is due to a lack of connectivity. Here’s how you can ensure that you are connected to a good network on your device.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and select Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Now, check if the Wi-Fi network you are connected to has full strength, and does not show errors like ‘Not Connected to Internet’ or ‘Weak Security’.

If you are operating on mobile data, the connection needs to either be on 4G or 5G running on strong signal strength.

Step 2: Ensure the toggle is on for Cellular Data. Also, ensure that the network is connected to 4G/5G and has a good signal strength.

Step 3: If you can’t connect to a 4G or 5G network despite having a plan for the same, tap on ‘Cellular Data Options’.

Step 4: Now, tap on ‘Voice & Data’. Select 4G or 5G as your default network.

7. Turn Off Hide IP Address From Trackers

The ‘Hide IP Address From Trackers’ option ensures that your IP address is not provided to any browser trackers. To know more, you can read our article on trackers on Safari . However, this causes a few issues that might cause Safari to not work on iPhone and iPad.

Here’s how you can disable this feature.

Step 2: Tap on ‘Hide IP Address’.

Step 3: Select Off, if not already.

Another feature on Safari that might cause a few errors are extensions. Here’s you you can disable them to fix Safari not working on iPhone and iPad.

8. Check Safari Extensions

While Safari extensions on iPhone help expand functionality, not all extensions are stable and some might cause issues with your web browsing experience. Here’s how you can turn off an extension.

Note : The extension we are using to show you the steps is just an example. By no means we are stating that this extension is causing issues.

Step 2: Now, tap on Extensions.

Step 3: Now, select the extension, and toggle it off.

This is how you can turn off extensions to ensure they are not the means of any problem. However, sometimes disabled JavaScript can also affect Safari. Let’s understand this in detail in the next section.

9. Enable JavaScript

JavaScript is a crucial element in websites that enables interactive content. If you disable it, you won’t see any images, videos, or other media content on a website. Thus, it can prevent Safari from responding on iPhone. Here’s how you can turn JavaScript on.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Advanced.

Step 3: Ensure to turn on the toggle for JavaScript.

ipad safari sound not working

That is how you enable JavaScript and ensure all kinds of websites work fine on Safari. If this does not work too, you need to check if your device is connected to a VPN network and if this prevents Safari to operate normally.

10. Disable VPN

VPN is a private network that hides your IP address while browsing the web. However, if you don’t connect to a VPN using a reliable service, you will face low speeds while browsing on Safari. Therefore, you can turn off the VPN connection.

Step 1: Open the Settings app and select General.

Step 2: Tap on ‘VPN & Device Management’ and ensure that the VPN status remains ‘Not Connected’.

If none of the above methods work, you can try some generic methods that help resolve most issues on iPhone and iPad, you can check if there is any software update for your iPhone.

11. Update Your iPhone and iPad

Apple ensures to fix issues faced by a lot of users through a software update. Therefore, it is best to remain on the latest version of iOS. Here’s how you can do the same.

Step 2: Tap on Software Update and select Download and Install. This will download and install the latest iOS update for your iPhone and iPad.

ipad safari sound not working

If this does not work either, you can probably try and reset your iPhone or iPad as a last resort.

12. Reset All Settings

Resetting your iPhone has a good probability of fixing any issue, and it goes the same for Safari not working as well. Here’s how you can Reset your iPhone.

Step 2: Tap on Transfer or Reset.

Step 3: Select Reset.

Step 4: Now, you can select Reset Network Settings to restore all original settings related to the network, i.e Wi-Fi settings, cellular Settings, saved passwords, etc.

If that does not work, you can select Reset All Settings. However, this will restore all your iPhone settings to default. This will not erase any of your data.

ipad safari sound not working

Step 5: If this does not work too, you can try to completely erase your iPhone and start afresh. You can tap on the ‘Erase All Content and Settings’ option on the reset page.

Now, follow the on-screen instructions to erase and reset your iPhone. However, since it wipes your phone, we suggest you take a full backup of your iPhone and iPad .

ipad safari sound not working

This, as mentioned earlier, should only be tried as a last resort as you’ll have to set up your iPhone or iPad as a new device.

Get Safari Working Again With these methods

That is all you need to know about trying to fix Safari not working on iPhone or iPad. We hope you found these methods helpful. Realistically speaking, it will most probably be an issue with your network connectivity, or from the website’s end. We hope your Safari is up and running soon.

Jul 24, 2015

Support Technique

I'm testing my course on iPad (Safari) through LMS, the audio is working only with headphones but the audio is working well in Chrome and Android.

Can anyone let me how to play the audio in Safari without using the headphone?

I'm using S2 with update 5 and IOS8.4

Hi Support! Your audio is working on the same iPad in Chrome without headphones? Other audio is working as expected on your iPad?

Yes the Audio is working on the same iPad in Chrome without headphones.

Well, I must admit, this is a first for me.

Are you able to replicate this issue if you upload the course to SCORM Cloud ? This will help us determine if the issue lies within the course or your LMS.

If you are able to replicate, please share the .story file with us to take a look at.

Hi Support -

Did you double check that the side mute button on your iPad isn't enabled? On my iPad mini - if that is switched to mute, I can't hear any audio unless I plug my headphones in which overrides it.

Sometimes it's the simplest thing - so let's hope so in your case. :-)

How can I share my .story file with you privately without posting on the blog?

Does this mean that you were able to replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud and checked out the information from Ashley?

If so, you are welcome to share your file privately  here  for us to take a look and be sure to include these details.

Did anyone find a solution for this?? Would love to know what it was.

Sorry to hear you've run into a similar issue and this thread is a bit dated.

Could you share what you are experiencing as well as what version of Storyline, how you are publishing/sharing, and iOS version you are using?

Even a .story file for us to take a look at would be helpful.
