Steve Perry Gives His Honest Opinion on New JOURNEY Singer Arnel Pineda

During a recent conversation with SiriusXM, classic Journey vocalist Steve Perry talked about the band’s new singer Arnel Pineda , who’s been a member of the fold since 2007.

Steve reached the topic while discussing Journey ‘s 2017 Rock Hall induction, saying (via Blabbermouth ):

“When I walked out there, that was a real thrill. They had a whole worked-up thing – they had a big teleprompter, and I said, ‘F that.’ I pulled out my piece of paper. I said, ‘I got some things to talk about here,’ and I just sort of did my thing. The fans, they were so wonderful.”

Asked on why he didn’t perform at the ceremony, Steve replied:

“I’m not in the band. I haven’t been in the band for quite some time. Arnel’s been in the band for almost 10 years, I think. He’s a sweet kid – he’s a wonderful kid. He sings his heart out every night. It’s his gig.

“There was a gentleman who we recently lost named Harry, part of the management team. Harry was there with me and he said, ‘Steve, listen, I don’t know if you know, but Arnel’s running up and down the halls. He heard you’re here, backstage.’

“I said, ‘Well, where is he?’ He said, ‘I think he’s outside.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’ll come out.’ I walked out and he was there, and he comes up to me… there was something endearing about the way he looked at me. He was meeting, like, a grandfather. [Laughs] He’s got the gig. It’s his gig. He’s doing great.”

Bring Steve back, ideots

the idiot is the one who can’t spell idiot

Why couldn’t Paul Rogers be a man like Steve Perry. Paul treated Brian Howe like sh*t.

Maybe he is not as good as Arnel’s voice almost copied almost same voice of Steve Perry that’s all I can say

Savage!!!!!😂😂😂

Both ” Arnel and Steve, and add, ” Taka” the lead singer from,” One O.K. Rock” all three would put on the show of shows!

He really is an edyot…

You’re damn right😁🤪.

You re very right!

Hey Andy, Speaking of IDIOTS!!

Bring back Steve Perry to the group so that Arnel may have substitute for vocal …just like john lennon paul mc cartney combination 🙏🥰💥

Steve doesn’t want to come back. He walked and was done with band. Why don’t you go back to an old job? Idiot

Steve can’t sing anymore. How he can do the things you want?

FUNNY HE JUST CAME OUT WITH A NEW AULBUM . HE CAN’T SING. LMFAO

welll idiot steve does not want back if he did he would be sooooo your the idiot idiot

Steve knew he can’t bring back the voice where the Journey was once before..Great that he recognize Arnel as the new lead singer of the band

Lmafol, how you spell Capital I•D•I•O•T🤣🤣🤣

Before I die, I would love to see the original Steve Perry and Journey together performing we need to do

Are you kidding me? Steve Perry- what grace and dignity you bring with this. Well done. Clearly your spirit, your conscience, is every bit as beautiful as your voice. ???

Got to love a class act like Steve Perry much love and respect ?

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT AND i JUST MET SOMEBODY WHO MET Steve Perry AND SAID HE WAS GREAT AND HUMBLE GUY AND VERY HUMOROUS.

Well done, Steve.

Awe yes, but he’ll never ever be you❤️

Steve Perry can never be replaced!

And can never sing his song exactly the same as what he did when he was at his prime with the band… that’s why he will never want to come back because he can’t do the same thing as what he did before like what arnel do at the present.

I sew him in concert 3 years ago and he was amazing Steve you will allways be number 1 but agree with Arnel is amazing Think journey is in good hands with him I would of like to seen you perform at the rock roll hall fame cearmoney but I think you were varry kind to say this is arnel crow dosin,t want to over well him I think you made a great choice but thir will allways be 1 Steve parry and that’s you. I’m going see them again next month with billy idol I can’t wait.

No one’s trying to replace Steve. He is Steve Perry. He is Arnel Pineda. Immature ppl don’t get it.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, DID YOU SEE ARNEL PINEDA FACE OF APPRECIATION WHEN THEY MET BACKSTAGE AT THE AWARDS. ARNEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOWN ON THE STAGE DURING THE AWARDS SHOW TOO, BUT HE THOUGHT BECAUSE IT WAS FOR THE ORIGINAL GROUP ONLY. HONESTLY IT SHOULD NOT HAVE MATTER, ARNEL IS THE MAN FOR JOURNEY NOW. THERE IS ROOM FOR A NEW HISTORY MAKING MOMENT FOR TWO FRONT MEN FOR JOURNEY AND THIS WILL BRING ON TOGETHER LEGIONS OF NEW FANS FOR JOURNEY OF BOTH MEN AND EVEN THE UNDECIDED UNDER ONE UMBRELLA TO SQUASH THE DEBATE ON WHOSE BETTER.

DID YOU SEE THE REACTION OF ADMIRATION FOR STEVE PERRY FROM ARNEL PINEDA WHO COVERS STEVE PERRY MUSIC DURING HIS YOUTH AND NOBODY HAS DONE IT BETTER THAN HIM AND i HAVE TRIED MYSELF AS MY VOCALS JUST DON’T MAKE THE GRADE TO COME CLOSE TO THE LIVING LEGEND. IF JOURNEY DON’T JUMP ON A HISTORY MAKING MOMENT TO HAVE TWO GREATIST FRONTMEN TO HAVE LED JOURNEY INTO THE FUTURE SOMETHINING IS WRONG IF YOU CAN’T GET THESE TWO TO WORK TOGETHER. SEAL THE LEGACY WITH AN ENTIRE DUET OF THESE TWO ON ANOTHER REBIRTH OF JOURNEY…WE ALL NEED A NEW FRONTEIR. WE HAVE TWO SUPERHEROES FOR JOURNEY. MAKE BOTH OF THEM A LEGEND BY HAVING THE ONLY GROUP TO EVER HAVE TWO FRONTMEN ACTUALLY WORK TOGETHER. UNLIKE THE FAILURE OF VAN HALEN WITH SAMMY HAGAR AND DAVID LEE ROTH. THAT WAS OIL AND WATER MIX.

Perry isn’t coming back. Isn’t that obvious? He felt he was screwed/betrayed. Schon mentions trying to communicate with Perry, just to say hi. Perry won’t answer. Does that sound like someone who would want to return even if the offer was made?

Every time someone says “Bring back Perry!” I just shake my head.

STEVE WOULD COMEBACK IF IT WAS WORTH SAVING JOURNEY, BUT AS HE SAID IT IS ARNEL TIME TO SHINE TO CARRY JOURNEY. ARNEL HAS PROVEN HIMSELF AS THE FAN HAS APPROVED HIM MUCH BETTER THAN THE PAST REPLACEMENT WHO DID A DECENT JOB BUT NOT THE POINT WHERE THEY MATCHED OR EVEN CAME CLOSE TO STEVE VOCALS THE WAY ARNEL VOCALS SOUNDS SO ORIGINALLY CLOSE. WHY WOULD STEVE WANT TO COMEBACK UNLESS THEY INVITE HIM BACK TO PERFORM WHICH JOURNEY MEMBERS SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM LETTING STEVE PERFORM LIVE WHENEVER HE WANTS TO PERFORM AGAIN. IF THIS IS SO TO HAVE TWO OF THE GREATEST FRONTMEN TO REVIVE A GROUP FOR AN EVEN LONGER LONGEVITY FOR FUTURE FANS.

Journey is a great group band but who run the group is stupid. ..we filipinos dont need journey for ARNEL PINEDA..we LOVE ARNEL PINEDA with his GREAT TALENT and his GREAT VOICE n SKILL…if there is no stupidity @ journey why steve perry left the group …🤨🤔

I WANT TO SAY THAT I LOVED HIS STREET TALK SOLO MUSIC AND HIS NEWEST ONE HE RELEASING TO WHAT i HEAR STILL CLASSIC STEVE PERRY. YOU CAN RELATE TO THE WORDS HE WRITE OR SING WHAT WAS WRITTEN FOR HIM. EITHER WAY HIS MUSIC IS ALWAYS GREAT.

Why didnt axl join journey during the nevermind days?

Steve Perry is a real gentleman. I salute him for speaking his heart out.

Schon Lechon is a devil in disguise. He must change his contaminated heart and mind before the Journey becomes NOBODY LIKE HIM.

you are the only ones who think that someone will replace steve even arnel doesn’t think like that infact arnel’s favorite singer is steve perry and he never thinks that he is replacing steve, the only problem is you narrow minded journey fans.

I can’t agree more bro. , a lot of people just keep on complaining and comparing between the which is really non-sense, Steve is Steve no matter what same as Arnel. They are unique in their own way in my opinion. It’s just plain stupid a lot of fans out there keep bashing Arnel for what he is, in reality Arnel has been with the Journey longer than Steve! Since Arnel took over as the front man I think he did the Journey a big favor in joining them as they can’t find any replacement until they discover Arnel on his Youtube channel.

You are one of the greatest artists Please come back to the world The one and only…..no replica No one can ever replace you

Love always B From Canada 🇨🇦

J Cain once said Arnel is not filling in Perry’s shoes. Arnel got his own shoes that shines.

Steve Perry is one of a kind a class act and amazing performer to this day i listen to Journey when Steve Perry sang

THE ONLY SATAN IN THE GROUP IS SCHION. WHO FEELS HE CAN MAKE JOURNEY ALIVE AS IT WERE IF NOT WTHOUT HIM. THANKS TO ARNEL, SCHION WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A NURSING HOME ON ROCKING CHAIR ROCKING HIS WAY TO OBLIVION. SO WATCH UR MOUTH SCHION

People, note that, Arnel Pineda did not replace Steve Perry he replace or took over the position as the lead singer.

Steve Perry really handled that well. Arnel really admires Perry and knows that he’s a legend. Star struck. Steve Perry is not coming back to Journey and can you blame him? It’s a drama and a mess of a band.

Jrny has always been evolving their music, line up ect. Perry was okay with it till it was his turn to take a pause He could have came back after his hiking accident but he didn’t So they moved on and have done well

Steve is Steve and Arnel is Arnel, both are great singers and should not be a topic for a battle of comparison. Steve Perry is done doing Journey and he won’t be back and that’s all there is to it. The international success is just the icing on Arnel’s cake, but with or without Journey he is doing well as a recording artist with his original band “The Zoo”. That “Bring Back Steve Perry” bandwagon is just very immature and silly, to say the least.

Everyone knows that nobody could ever be a “Steve Perry” However, Arnel Pineda—- I must say that you are very impressive and I love the way you came in and Rocked every single Journey song! Arnel, you’re amazingly BLESSED with a powerhouse of a voice, a great demeanor, and swag outta this world! I definitely am super happy that Journey continues!

Journey's Neal Schon says he and Steve Perry are 'in a good place' before band's 50th anniversary

journey new singer live

On the cusp of turning 50, the band that etched “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” and “Faithfully” into lighters-up lore is entering “a cleaned-up chapter of Journey.”

That’s according to Neal Schon, the band’s ace guitarist, lone original constant and de facto CEO.

Despite decades of fluctuating lineups and  snarly lawsuits among band members , Journey endures.

On July 8, the band released “Freedom,” its first new album in 11 years that also presents the return of Randy Jackson (as in "American Idol") on bass. The 15-song collection is steeped with vintage-sounding ballads (“Still Believe in Love,” “Live to Love Again”) and soaring melodic rockers (“United We Stand,” “You Got the Best of Me”).

Journey – including longtime keyboardist Jonathan Cain,  peppy singer Arnel Pineda , drummer Deen Castronovo and keyboardist Jason Derlatka, adding bassist Todd Jensen for live shows – will hit Resorts World Las Vegas  this month for shows backed by a symphony orchestra before rolling through more arena dates this summer and in early 2023, the band’s official 50th year.

Journey in pop culture: Quarantined family perfectly re-creates 'Separate Ways' music video at home

Regular road warriors who consistently pack arenas and stadiums – their 27 shows this year grossed $28 million, according to Billboard Boxscore – Journey relies on a solid catalog of mega-hits and a devoted fan base that appreciates the familiarity.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers also received a boost from Netflix’s ’80s-centered “Stranger Things” when the show used “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” in the trailer for the just-ended season, launching the song onto Billboard’s Rock Digital Songs chart. The affable Schon, 68, talked with USA TODAY about the band’s complicated legacy, his relationship with former frontman Steve Perry and plans for Journey's golden anniversary.

Santana recovers: Carlos Santana collapsed on stage from heat, dehydration

Question: Are you amazed at how the Journey train keeps rolling after almost 50 years?

Neal Schon: It’s quite an accomplishment and I’m very proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve gotten through emotional and personnel changes and survived. It’s pretty mind-boggling but also a lot of hard work.

Q: Does the title “Freedom” refer to anything specifically?

Schon: Our ex-manager Herbie Herbert  wanted to call the (1986) “Raised on Radio” album “Freedom” because he always came up with these one-word titles. Steve (Perry) fought him on that and got his way, so we sat on it for many years. When we got through the lawsuit with the ex-bandmates, we made the new LLC Freedom (JN) and when we were tossing around album titles said, why not just call the whole thing “Freedom?" It's for the times right now.

Q: There’s been a bit of a revolving door in the rhythm section. Deen Castronovo is back for the live shows, but Narada Michael Walden played drums on the album, and Randy Jackson is back in the band, at least on record?

Schon: Deen is singing and playing his butt off. He’s such a musical sponge, this guy. He’s been like my little brother for close to three decades and is such a joy to work with. Randy, he’d been working with me diligently this whole time. He’s so many things beyond being an amazing musician and bass player.

Rock in the rain: Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison, Joan Jett combat weather during The Stadium Tour

Q: Will Randy play at any of the upcoming live shows or is Todd Jensen handling those duties?

Schon: Randy is still recovering from some surgery and he stays very busy and Todd fits like a glove. Having said that, I think with our 50th anniversary next year, there’s room for everybody to jump in if they want to participate. We did go through an ugly divorce with (Steve Smith and Ross Valory) with the court proceedings (in 2021, Schon and Cain settled a $10 million trademark lawsuit with the band’s former drummer and bassist). But definitely, if Steve Perry wanted to come on and sing a song, yes. If (original Journey singer) Gregg Rolie wanted to come sing a couple of songs, yes. Randy Jackson (can) come sit in on some of the material – he played on a lot of hits on “Raised on Radio.”

Q: Do you talk much with Steve Perry?

Schon: We are in contact. It’s not about him coming out with us, but we’re speaking on different levels. That’s a start, even if it’s all business. And I’m not having to go through his attorney! We’ve been texting and emailing. He’s a real private guy and he wants to keep it that way. We’re in a good place.

Q: Do you think, after 15 years, that people have accepted Arnel?

Schon: I was diligent in that I wanted to show the massive size of our audience, so I hired photogs to come out every show and shoot the audience and show the size of the crowd to make everybody see, what am I missing? From putting up the different photos every night and the reviews from the fans online, I saw very little of “This is not Journey, man.” I think we just shut everybody up.

Journey's new album, new frontman.

In advance of Journey's new album, Revelation , which drops Wednesday, Bryant Park Project Producer Dan Pashman looks at Arnel Pineda, the band's replacement frontman.

RACHEL MARTIN, host:

OK. Those of us with discerning taste in music know that tomorrow is a big day. That's because Journey - that's right, Journey - is releasing a new album. It's called "Revelation," and it's the band's first album with their new lead singer, Arnel Pineda. It includes three discs, one of new music, one of new recordings of Journey classics featuring Pineda at the mike, and a DVD of a March concert in Las Vegas. The story of how Arnel Pineda came to be Journey's lead singer is pretty darn amazing, but not necessarily unique. It turns out he's the latest in a long line of super fans who got to live their dream by becoming the lead singers of the bands that they idolized. Awhile back, producer Dan Pashman told Alison Stewart and me all about the proud lineage.

DAN PASHMAN: The first time we witnessed this phenomena was in 1997 when Tim Owens was hired to replace Rob Halford as the frontman for Judas Priest. And Owens had been in a series of Judas Priest cover bands before he got the real gig. Oh, by the way, a quick side note, Owens was also in a band called Brainicide at one point. I just thought I should mention that. I was thinking we should have a BPP segment called Brainicide.

ALISON STEWART, host:

PASHMAN: I don't know what that will consist of, but I'll work on that.

STEWART: It sounds like killing your brain. I don't know. You might want to start thinking about that one.

PASHMAN: Yeah. So two Judas Priest fans videotaped Owens in his role without his knowledge, videotaped him in the Priest cover band, and they got the tape to the real band and the group eventually hired him and gave him the stage name Ripper Owens. So I thought we'd do a quick audio comparison here. Here's Judas Priest performing their classic song "Breaking the Law."

STEWART: The name's Ripper now. Like, I can't - OK.

PASHMAN: You're not Tim anymore. You're Ripper. So this is them performing their classic song "Breaking the Law," live back in the '80s, with the original lead singer Rob Halford.

(Soundbite of song "Breaking the Law")

Mr. ROB HALFORD: (Singing) There I was completely wasted, out of work and down. All inside it's so frustrating as I drift from town to town. Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die...

PASHMAN: All right. So that's the original, and now here's Priest performing the same song live in 2001, with Ripper Owens at the helm.

Mr. TOM OWENS: (Singing) There I was completely wasted, out of work and down. All inside it's so frustrating as I drift from town to town. Feel as though nobody cares if I live or die...

PASHMAN: Pretty close. Pretty close to the real thing.

STEWART: It's close. I prefer the Halford.

PASHMAN: Yeah.

STEWART: I do.

PASHMAN: Well, if it's any consolation to you, Ally, I should add that Rob Halford did return as Judas Priest's lead singer in 2003.

STEWART: I feel better.

PASHMAN: But the tale of Tim Owens sounds like a story, you know, kind of fit for Hollywood, and it was. And four years after he got that job, Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston starred in a film inspired by Owen's story called "Rock Star."

STEWART: I'm embarrassed. I saw it.

PASHMAN: Yeah. In the theater?

STEWART: Yes.

PASHMAN: Oh, man. You're busted. That film had the tagline, the story of a wannabe who got to be. Here's a clip of the trailer.

(Soundbite of movie trailer "Rock Star")

Unidentified Man #1: You know what the sickest thing is about you, little man? You fantasize about being somebody else singing somebody else's songs.

Mr. MARK WAHLBERG: (As Chris "Izzy" Cole) Oh. Maybe if I get really lucky, I'll get to grope and listen to Air Supply and wear jackboots like you.

Unidentified Man #1: What's wrong with Air Supply?

Unidentified Man #2: We're auditioning for a new lead singer.

Unidentified Man #3: The good Lord has given you a hell of a voice.

Unidentified Man #4: Do you want the gig then?

PASHMAN: All right. So that was "Rock Star," and now moving onto 2007, the heavy-metal band Anthrax took a cue from Judas Priest and named their 31-year-old personal trainer and part-time singer from Long Island their lead singer. You know, that's where you find most Anthrax fans, in the gyms of Long Island. His name is Dan Nelson, and he met Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano on MySpace a few years ago. One thing led to another, and now Nelson's the lead singer of Anthrax, and actually, when he got that gig, his friend gave him a DVD of "Rock Star" as a gift.

STEWART: That's a good friend.

PASHMAN: Right. So the story continues, and all this leads to my personal favorite super fan on the list, the best story of a wannabe who got to be. And now we all know and love the band Journey. Am I right?

MARTIN: (Singing) Don't stop believing...

PASHMAN: That's right. You know what I'm talking about Rachel. Their guitarist, Neal Schon, was searching for a lead singer to replace estranged frontman, Steve Perry. So where would anyone look in that situation? Obviously, YouTube. So...

STEWART: Just a cornucopia of talent.

PASHMAN: Right. Exactly. Well, it took him days. Neal Schon spent days on YouTube and was almost already to give up when he came across a Filipino band called the Zoo that performs original music and covers, especially - you guessed it - Journey covers. Their lead singer is a guy named Arnel Pineda, who's been called the Filipino Steve Perry, which is just about, I think, the greatest compliment you could ever give someone.

MARTIN: Yes. I agree.

PASHMAN: You guys agree? And this guy is pretty amazing. Now first, just in case anyone out there forgets what the original Journey sounds like with Steve Perry, let's first hear a quick clip of their classic hit "Don't Stop Believing."

(Soundbite of song "Don't Stop Believing")

Mr. STEVE PERRY: (Singing) You're just a small town girl, living in a lonely world.

PASHMAN: All right. So that's the original. Now here's Arnel Pineda, the Filipino Steve Perry, with his band the Zoo, performing the same song on YouTube.

Mr. ARNEL PINEDA: (Singing) You're just a small town girl, living in a lonely world.

STEWART: Ow! I like it, Arnel.

Mr. PINEDA: (Singing) Let's hit the midnight train going anywhere.

PASHMAN: That's pretty great, right?

STEWART: That's shocking, because I love Steve Perry.

MARTIN: I think he's saying Oh, Sherrie.

PASHMAN: Right, so Pineda got an email from the Journey guitarist and he thought it was a hoax, so he ignored it. But then his friends said, hey, you know, what if this is real? This could be your big break? You know, so Pineda wrote back, and eventually he got the gig, and now he's on tour with Journey. And if you want to get an idea of just how faithful he is to the Steve Perry sound, we're going to fade in the original version and play them together layered on top of each other. Take a listen.

Mr. PERRY and Mr. PINEDA: (Singing) I'm singing in a smoky room. Smell of wine and cheap perfume. For a smile they can share the night. It goes on and on and on and on, yeah.

PASHMAN: Oh. We are rocking out in the studios. So to all you musical super fans out there, "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" players alike, I say to you, don't stop believing. This could be your story.

MARTIN: Oh, my gosh! Twice the Steve Perry. Twice as nice!

STEWART: It's so good. OK.

MARTIN: We do have to add this, though, Dan. There was a little asterisk attached to this story.

PASHMAN: Fair enough.

MARTIN: Involving a reality show.

PASHMAN: Right. In 2005, there was a reality show called "Rock Star," also called "Rock Star" and it was to find a lead singer of INXS, but we kind of ruled that kind of a different story. It's not the same as a super fan being plucked. And one other quick aside, in my research for this piece, I found out that there's a Journey Island in Second Life. They have a Journey Island.

MARTIN: Really?

PASHMAN: Yeah. I mean, you wouldn't have guessed it, but you know...

MARTIN: I am going there. That is incentive for me to get in on that world.

PASHMAN: Put that in your pipe and smoke it, REO Speedwagon.

(Soundbite of "Don't Stop Believing")

Mr. PINEDA: (Singing) Some will win. Some will lose. Some were born to just sing the blues. Oh, the movie never ends. It goes on and on and on...

MARTIN: That was BPP producer Dan Pashman with Alison Stewart and me, and as we said, Journey fans rejoice, the band's first album featuring Arnel Pineda as lead singer comes out manana.

PESCA: But whenever I hear this song, I think "The Sopranos" is going to end, and I get sad all over again.

MARTIN: All over again. Stay with us. The final Democratic primary is upon us. Montana's up. We'll learn more. This is the BPP from NPR News.

Arnel Pineda

NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 19: (L-R) Producer John Paterson, Arnel Pineda of the band Journey, producer David Paterson and Yu Session attend the after party for the premiere of 'Don't Stop Believin': Every-man's Journey' during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival at Gansevoort Hotel on April 19, 2012 in New York City. Who Is Arnel Pineda?

After a series of unfortunate events in his childhood, Arnel Pineda found success in Asia as the front man for the group The Zoo. In 2007, he was discovered by Journey guitarist Neal Schon, after a series of YouTube videos were posted of him covering American songs, including the famous hit, "Dont Stop Believin'." In December 2007, Pineda became the new lead singer of Journey. His is noted for having a strikingly similar sound to former Journey front man Steve Perry.

Troubled Childhood

Arnel Pineda was born on September 5, 1967, in Sampaloc, Manila, in the Philippines. Throughout his childhood, Pineda endured grave misfortune. When he was just 13 years old, his mother, who was 35 at the time, passed away after a long battle with heart disease. Her medical costs left the family in serious debt, and Pineda's father could no longer provide for Pineda and his three younger brothers, Russmon, Roderick and Joselito.

While relatives were able to take in his brothers, Pineda was left on his own. He spent the next few years homeless, often sleeping outside in public parks and scraping for any food or water that he could afford. When possible, he would stay at a friend's house, who offered him a cot outside. Eventually, Pineda was forced to quit school and take up odd jobs collecting scrap metal and bottles at the pier and selling newspapers to support his family.

Early Career

Pineda's love of music started at a young age. He began singing at just five years old, and had entered many singing contests as a child. In 1982, when he was 15, Pineda was introduced to a local band called Ijos, and was encouraged by his friends to try out as their new lead singer. He sang the Beatles' "Help" and Air Supply's "Making Love Out Of Nothing At All." Although they were concerned with his lack of training, Ijos members were wowed by Pineda's powerful voice, and took him on as the new front man of the band. One of the band member's friends even offered to pay Pineda's salary, 35 pesos a night, out of his own pocket, and Pineda was offered a tiny room to sleep under the guitarist's front stairs.

In 1986, some members of Ijos joined together to form the new pop-rock band Amo. The group found success covering songs by hit groups Heart, Queen and Journey. In 1988, they turned heads when they won the Philippines' leg of the Yamaha World Band Explosion Contest. Although they were disqualified in the finals due to a technicality, the event was broadcast on TV in Asia, widening their fanbase. The band continued performing at popular clubs and arenas around the Philippines.

In 1990, the members re-grouped yet again, under the new name Intensity Five, and re-entered the contest. The band came in as runner up and Pineda won the Best Vocalist Award. After a series of unfortunate health problems in the early '90s, including the brief loss of his voice, Pineda re-emerged in 1999 with a new solo album with Warner Brothers. The self-titled album had several hits in Asia.

After brief stints with a few different bands, Pineda found success again in 2006 with The Zoo, a band that he formed with Monet Cajipe, a guitarist/songwriter who had been in all his bands during over the previous 20 years. The Zoo performed at several popular clubs in the area and, in 2007, released an album by MCA Universal titled Zoology . Soon the band began covering songs by groups such as Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles and more, with more than 200 performances uploaded to YouTube.

On June 28, 2007, Neal Schon, guitarist and member of the band Journey, saw a video of Pineda on YouTube and immediately contacted him. The band had been looking for a new lead singer, and Pineda's voice sounded strikingly similar to Steve Perry, Journey's legendary former front man. After speaking with Schon on the phone, Pineda made arrangements to fly to the United States and audition with the band in San Francisco. On December 5, 2007, Pineda was welcomed as the band's new lead singer.

Right away, Pineda went on tour with the band, performing two shows in Chile and two in Las Vegas. Both were a huge success. After a series of guest show appearances and magazine features, Pineda gained popularity within the American public. On June 3, 2008, the newly organized Journey released their first album, Revelation , which came in at No. 5 on the U.S. charts. The album was their highest charting album since Trial by Fire (with Steve Perry), and reached platinum status by October 2008.

Soon after the album's release, the band continued touring around the world with Pineda. The documentary, Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey , slated to be released in 2012, will chronicle the band's "Revelation Tour," and Pineda's first years with the band.

Personal Life

When he is not on tour, Pineda resides in the Philippines with his wife, Cherry, their children, Cherub and Thea. He has two other sons—Matthew, 19, and Angelo, 13—from past relationships.

Gregg Rolie Sings Five Songs With Journey During Surprise Encore Appearance in Texas

There has been a lot of fuss about which classic members may or may not join Journey on their current 50th anniversary tour and yesterday (Feb. 22), original singer and keyboardist Gregg Rolie made a surprise appearance, playing five songs with the group near the end of the night.

Prior to the tour's kickoff, there was speculation that Rolie (keyboard, originally lead vocals) could possibly return to the lineup after having departed more than 40 years ago in 1980. It was also rumored that singer Steve Perry, who took over as Journey's singer in 1977 (through 1987 and again from 1995 through 1998) after Rolie sang on the group's first three records, was in the mix for a return as well.

In mid-January, Michaele Schon, guitarist Neal Schon's wife, revealed that two members of the band were on "adamant no" on Rolie rejoining the band, also hinting at a future appearance, stating the two "will be somewhere together at least one time this year in honor of what they began in 1972."

As the tour swung by the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, it was the ideal time to welcome Rolie back to the stage, at least temporarily.

On Twitter , Rollie shared a video clip from the set and wrote, "When the band you helped start 50 years ago is playing down the street you've got one option... JOIN THEM on stage!"

Before bringing Rolie onstage, Schon addressed the crowd, informing fans (quote via UCR ), "We have an extra special set tonight. So when we go offstage at the end of the show, don't leave."

Singing on five songs, sharing the duties with drummer Deen Castronovo on two of them, Rolie also sat behind a Hammond organ during performances of "Just the Same Way," "Of a Lifetime" (played for the first time since 2005), "Feeling That Way," "Anytime" and a cover of Santana's "Black Magic Woman" (originally recorded by Fleetwood Mac) that also saw Toto guitarist Steve Lukather guest onstage.

See the complete setlist and fan-filmed video footage of Rolie's surprise appearance further down the page.

For Journey fans, Rolie's appearance is a nice moment to cherish amid a rocky year — one that has even seen current frontman Arnel Pineda express his frustration over all the drama. "[I'm] with the band to sing the legacy... if some of them are tired of me being with them, with all means, they can fire me anytime," he shared earlier this month.

Journey's tour runs through April 25 — see the remaining dates here and head to this location to get tickets.

‘The Masked Singer’: Lovebird Says Costume Fits His ‘Journey to Self-Acceptance & Love’

Lovebird performs in 'The Masked Singer' Season 11

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for  The Masked Singer Season 11 Episode 6 “Transformers Night.”]

Finally being able to step on stage and sing under a mask was all about timing for the latest unmasked celebrity on the Fox hit.

As  The Masked Singer Season 11 continued, so did the eliminations. And for Lovebird, it was (once again) the end of his time in the unscripted spotlight. Panelist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg was right when she got on  The Bachelor train of thought and eventually settled on none other than Colton Underwood .

Below, Underwood opens up about his time on the show and whether he’ll sing again.

What made you say yes to doing The Masked Singer ? Did you have any hesitations? You did say you’d wanted to be on it.

Colton Underwood: Yeah, it just was the perfect time. I had been in talks to do it a few different times over my career, and this was the perfect time. I think after coming out, I really needed to take some time to invest in myself and invest in my coming out experience, both privately and personally. But when this offer came in, my life was in a great spot. I had just gotten married, and the timing was perfect.

Talk about that costume. What appealed to you about being the Lovebird? It looked like you could move around in it as much as you needed to.

Yeah, I definitely did not feel overheated. There was a lot of space for me to move in with it, but I think what was beautiful about the Love Bird is just with my journey to self-acceptance and love. I think outside of the obvious reasons of me being the Lovebird, with being the former Bachelor, finding love with myself over 2020 and 2021 and then finding love when I wasn’t even looking for it with Jordan is so symbolic and I couldn’t have thought of a better character for me.

What went into your song choices?

I think just really leaning into obviously songs that I felt like I could actually have a grip on and handle in a good way, but also still challenging, but then lyrics—music has always been sort of a therapy for me and I’ve really leaned into lyrics and the meaning for me. I think what’s beautiful about music is things can mean different things to different people, and that’s definitely something that’s been always present with me in my life.

Did you have any songs or a genre given the theme nights in mind if you continued on?

I definitely probably would’ve leaned into some country and that alternative rock that you saw me with. So I think country would’ve been probably my next up.

Talk about the panelists guesses. Jenny figured you out after coming close in your first episode and then going back and forth between you and Nick Viall .

Yeah, obviously they had great guesses. I think the Bird costume threw ’em off a little bit with just how big it was, so they couldn’t really get an idea of outside of just how tall I was, what I looked like underneath there. So they had great guesses. I think the clue packages were awesome and really leaned into everything in my past.

Did you come into this expecting anyone specific from the panel to figure you out?

I didn’t. I had spoken and worked with Jenny in the past, so I had some hesitations that she might get it. I also know that she’s a huge reality TV fan, so anybody in that [world], she sort of sniffs out, so I knew if anybody was going to guess me it was going to be her.

Have you been hearing from anyone—friends, family, anyone from Bachelor Nation—since your first performance, who knew it was you and you had to deny it?

Yes, there’s been a few people. I told my immediate family about the project just because they love to support me and know. But the rest of them don’t, and they do watch. That’s what I love about The Masked Singer  is that it is a family show and families really bond over this and it’s such a fun thing for kids to watch, so I can’t wait to hear their reactions tonight.

One of the clues was that you’ve made TV history before and you’re looking to do that again by winning the Golden Mask. How would you have made TV history by winning the Golden Mask?

Oh, I just think because I have no business winning that it would’ve been very unlucky if I went there. I think what shocks me the most is I’m a very competitive person. However, I wasn’t as competitive as I normally am. I was more leaning into just being uncomfortable and having such a fun experience with this and less about focusing on winning, which I think is beautiful and taught me a whole new side of myself.

'The Masked Singer': Lizard Says 'It's Flattering to Lose' on This Show

'The Masked Singer': Lizard Says 'It's Flattering to Lose' on This Show

This show really has people embrace doing that with its format. People enjoy watching it for the entertainment value.

It’s such a brilliant and beautiful show. It’s not exploitative. There’s no bad angle, there’s no plot that they’re looking to exploit. It’s just all about fun and happiness and storytelling and entertainment and dance and energy. It’s a beautiful, beautiful project.

What will you take away from the entire experience?

I can do anything that feels uncomfortable and I can really enjoy it. I think that it really gave me a lot of confidence to continue to say yes and try new things in my life.

What surprised you the most about being on The Masked Singer besides that you weren’t as competitive as usual?

I think just the coordination piece. In grade school, in high school, I didn’t take music classes. I was more of an athlete, so being able to express myself in that way as someone who listens to music and has an appreciation for artists and music, getting to get on stage and try it was incredible.

Is singing something you want to continue doing now going forward?

In the shower, that’s about it. I will limit my future singing to my husband and in the shower. … It is not a career that I’m going to focus on.

Is there anything else you want to share about your time on The Masked Singer ?

Just that I had a lovely experience and it was something that I feel like any other celebrity or somebody out there that’s doubting themselves or doesn’t know if they can do it, challenge yourself a little bit and say yes.

Would you put the costume on again if they brought you back for some kind of performance?

Oh, I would 100 percent put that Lovebird costume back on.

“I had always wanted I knew I wanted to try to show it at some point and when previous offers came in, it just wasn’t the right time in my life,” the former Bachelor told Deadline of competing on the show. “When this season came up, I was like, ‘This is the season I say, yes.’ It’s something that I never thought that I would want to say yes to or be comfortable doing, but it was the experience of a lifetime and something I was so happy and grateful for.”

And since McCarthy seems to have a sixth sense for reality TV stars on The Masked Singer , Underwood wasn’t surprised at all that she was able to guess his identity.

“It was to be expected at that point,” he explained. “I knew she had watched my season. I knew she was familiar with me. She had read my book. So I was like, ‘Oh, she is gonna have this figured out.'”

Audiences who have been following Underwood since his reality TV journey began on The Bachelorette will know that it’s been a rocky path. After vying for Becca Kufrin on Season 8, Underwood quickly went on to Bachelor in Paradise , and then he became The Bachelor for Season 23.

Shortly after his relationship from The Bachelor ended, he faced allegations of stalking that were ultimately dropped. In 2021, Underwood came out as gay, and his coming out journey way documented in the Netflix series Coming Out Colton. He is now married to husband Jordan C. Brown.

He added that while he “was in a position that I should have never been in,” he’s proud of the way things turned out.

“I’m proud of helping contribute to our community and having people feel represented because there’s a lot of people like me that are struggling, that are hiding, that have so much shame around their sexuality, he continued. “I feel like I had to go through what I went through to speak for people within our community that felt similarly to what I was feeling.”

Obviously, Underwood’s Lovebird costume was a nod to his dating show days, but he also thinks it represents the “self acceptance that I’ve experienced in the last few years.”

“Lovebird spoke to me beautifully,” he said.

'Reacher' star Alan Ritchson lived 'behind a grocery store in my truck' well before finding success

thumbnail

Alan Ritchson is one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood, but his journey to the A-List has been anything but easy.

In a profile published in the Hollywood Reporter last week, the 41-year-old reflected on the path that led him to "Reacher," Guy Ritchie and beyond.

The actor said he grew up in a strict home, with parents who kept a close eye on him and sent him to daily mass. As a high school student, Ritchson said his sense of independence led him to run away.

"I was fiercely independent and didn't want my parents paying for anything for me because I felt like it gave them power over me," he said. "I wanted to make my own decisions."

He took the money he earned working odd jobs and bought himself a "crappy" used Toyota truck. He also bought an air mattress so he could sleep in the truck bed.

"I felt like I deserved it because I paid for my phone, insurance and I put gas in my car," he said. "I went and lived behind a grocery store in my truck. I slept out there for a long time."

Eventually Ritchson moved back home. He earned a full ride to Northwest Florida State College but dropped out after just two years.

He struggled to get steady work as an actor for years. He'd supplement his income with side hustles including a "nightmare" gig managing an apartment building.

"I'd be running out of cash and then some episode I'd filmed nine months earlier would air," he said. But "Every time I thought I should get a different career, something would come."

These days Ritchson is busier than ever, with "Reacher" and a slew of film roles keeping him booked "for at least the next couple of years with, at most, six days off in between projects including travel."

And while Ritchson says that financially he's "very well taken care of," making money is no longer one of this top priorities.

"I've come to learn that it's not what matters most," he said. "I try to keep my eyes fixed on opportunities to serve others."

Journey Reintroduce Themselves to a New Generation at Lollapalooza 2021

By Nina Corcoran

Nina Corcoran

As soon as Lollapalooza’s lineup was announced this year, fans online found themselves ogling, confused, at one band in particular: Journey . Although their legendary career needed no introduction, their inclusion at this particular festival did. Lollapalooza is known to cater to underage suburbanites and 20-somethings from the Midwest. There’s a 19-year age gap between the formation of Journey and that of Modest Mouse, the next oldest band on Lollapalooza’s bill this year. Only three other acts also got their start before this century: Jimmy Eat World, Limp Bizkit, and Foo Fighters.

Two hours before their set began, Journey sold around 500 shirts at the merch table in total — a “rough” turnout according to the store manager. At the same time, Limp Bizkit was performing on the same stage immediately before them. The fact the ‘90s rap-rock band was once an unstoppable force on the charts is a mind-boggling phenomenon of its own, and yet, one could argue, they’re coming back in vogue as a sarcastic favorite among millennials following the Woodstock ’99 documentary .

So when Journey finally took the stage just after 8:00 P.M., it was a pleasant surprise to see a sizable group of fans already gathered around the stage, with hundreds more dotting the lawn on blankets. Journey proved themselves to be festival ready with “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” a single that still packs a punch nearly 40 years later and sent stragglers into a sprint to get a closer view of Neal Schon in action. Arnel Pineda, the band’s lead singer since 2007, earned audible praise from teens in the back with his festival outfit: flashy sunglasses, bleached white jeans, and a white designer sweatshirt emblazoned with a red apple bearing the Gucci logo. Journey may be old, but they presented themselves as fresh favorites onstage.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

It helps that they let Schon take the steering wheel early on. He unfurled a dozen brimful solos across their set. Watching him play, it’s obvious why Guitar Center hopefuls pass the time trying to effortlessly whip out 100-note solos; people like Schon make it look easy.

The same was true for bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Deen Castronovo when they stole the spotlight on the gritty “La Do Da,” despite a dull call-and-response that fell flat before their respective solos. Later, older fans erupted into cheers when Journey launched into “Wheel in the Sky” where Pineda got to show off the depth of his vocal range. After turning it over to the rest of the band for a brief jam, he couldn’t help but rock out, jumping and clapping, lost in the moment of their musicianship.

As it turned out, Journey was the ideal band to do the impossible at Lollapalooza: Draw complete families to the festival on an otherwise youth-oriented lineup day. While kids at other stages were busy rapping along to Post Malone or breaking out a sweat to internet phenomenon Marc Rebillet, those watching Journey with their parents were experiencing some good old fashioned bonding time.

One couple swayed along to “Open Arms” with a toddler hoisted atop their shoulders as they rocked their youngest in a stroller, a yellow string of lights roped around its handle. Another family of four appeared to join forces with their son’s friends, who nodded along on a beach towel to “Lights” while the rest stood to watch. The opening notes of “Stone in Love” prompted their teenage daughter to throw both hands in the air, yelp in surprise, and whip around to face her mom. Without missing a beat, the two immediately leaned into one another and started singing along.

The majority of people gathered around, however, were clearly waiting for Journey to break out the hits. When Pineda asked the crowd how they were doing after the one-hour mark, a man in his 20s barked at him to play “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Instead, they bounced back with “Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’.” By then, thousands of younger attendees were sprawled on the ground around the stage’s perimeter, impervious and content to lounge until the two songs they wanted to post on social media popped up.

Eventually, the wait paid off. Journey sandwiched “Faithfully,” “Any Way You Want It,” and “Don’t Stop Believin’” into the final moments of their set and Pineda, who was pitch-perfect all night, never missed a note. Thousands of people seized the moment and hung onto the feeling, their voices flooding the festival grounds as they sang along and fireworks exploded above the stage.

Journey are veteran professionals when it comes to throwing entertaining concerts, and the fans upfront knew that from experience. But for the young festivalgoers and indifferent onlookers who expected a weathered band of baby boomers to twiddle their thumbs for an hour before breaking out jukebox staples, they got to experience arguably the most underrated feeling a music festival can offer: discovering a different side to an artist’s discography that you overlooked up until then.

Meet the national anthem singers at the Men’s and Women’s Final Fours

Student-athlete vocalists start games on a high note in phoenix and cleveland.

Before the players at the Men's and Women's Final Fours took center stage in Phoenix and Cleveland, respectively, a few of their student-athlete peers stole the show with their voices.

Indiana women's basketball senior Arielle Wisne sang the national anthem before the semifinals of the Women's Final Four on Friday night. About 24 hours later, a representative from each of the four teams at the Men's Final Four collectively sang the anthem before the semifinals began, alongside students from host Arizona State.

Learn a little about each of them below.

Jada Allen, NC State

A senior volleyball player for the Wolfpack, Allen grew up with two older sisters who sang in the church choir. Naturally, she joined along. Allen's love for singing led her to join school musicals in high school and start to dream of a future on Broadway. Allen also stuttered as a child, and singing became a way to work through that. Through the years, she said overcoming natural stage fright in singing has benefited her in big moments on the volleyball court.

"Even when there's a huge crowd, I think to myself I have to stay cool, have to stay calm," she said in an NC State feature video . "I think it's just something I've accepted will come and I'll get nervous and I'll get a little shy, but that's just part of it."

Paul Mathews, Alabama

A freshman diver for Alabama, Paul Mathews is no stranger to performing at sporting events outside the pool. Mathews has performed at the Men's College World Series in Omaha and before an Alabama swimming and diving meet this season. He also has sung in Carnegie Hall.

"I have been doing music my whole life. Before I dove, all I did was music," Mathews said in an interview with a Birmingham, Alabama, TV station . "If I have the opportunity to do so, I love to take advantage of it just because to be able to share music with the world is a gift I have been given by God."

Caroline Sheehan, UConn

A former women's soccer player and current team manager for the Huskies, Caroline Sheehan has been connected to UConn since birth. Sheehan's father ran track at UConn and met her mother there. Her sister is currently a senior at UConn.

Singing is also a lifelong love, one Sheehan said started in choir and transitioned to carpool karaoke sessions with friends as she got to college.

All of this made representing UConn at the Final Four a special moment.

"It's a really, really cool experience. When I heard about this opportunity, it was like, 'Why not? Let's run it back!''' Sheehan said. "I'm really excited and grateful to represent UConn, the team, and all my friends and family."

Nicole Ryan, Purdue

Nicole Ryan, a senior for Purdue cheer, has loved singing her whole life but had never performed in front of an audience bigger than a few friends and family until last weekend. As a 10-year-old, she had an opportunity to sing on Broadway, but her busy schedule of school, cheer and athletics kept her from pursuing it. All of this made the opportunity to sing at the Men's Final Four especially meaningful, as she sang in front of more than 74,000 and millions more watching on TV before joining the Boilermaker cheer squad on the sidelines.

"It still feels like a dream!" Ryan said. "Ten-year-old me would be so proud to have finally followed her dreams of being a collegiate cheerleader at Purdue University, as well as singing the national anthem. I am so beyond grateful for this opportunity and that I get to sing in the final chapter of my college career."

Arielle Wisne, Indiana

A fifth-year senior for the Indiana women's basketball team, Arielle Wisne's teammates have known she can sing for a long time from locker room karaoke sessions — "The Lion King" music was a favorite early in her career. She's also written a few songs in her spare time. Hoosier fans took in her vocal talents before Indiana's senior day game this season when she sang the national anthem . On Friday, Wisne once again impressed a sold-out crowd by singing the national anthem at the Women's Final Four in Cleveland, with millions more watching on TV.

"I have always loved singing, but I have not been able to do a lot with it," said Wisne, who was part of a historic run of Indiana basketball that included multiple NCAA tournaments, Sweet 16 appearances and a Big Ten Conference championship. "It really means a lot to me to be selected to sing at the Final Four. I never imagined I would!"

Arielle Wisne, a fifth-year senior for Indiana women's basketball, sang the national anthem to open the semifinals for the Women's Final Four on Friday night.

Morgan Wallen arrested after throwing chair from rooftop of Nashville bar, police say

Country star Morgan Wallen was arrested on reckless endangerment charges after throwing a chair from the rooftop of a six-story bar in the popular Broadway district of Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday night, police said.

Wallen, 30, was booked early Monday on three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, the Metro politan Nashville Police Department said.

He was at country singer Eric Church's new bar, Chief's, and the chair fell close to two police officers on Broadway, police said.

Video from the rooftop showed Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof,” according to his arrest affidavit. Witnesses also told police they were standing to the right of Wallen and “observed him pick up the chair and throw it over him, laughing afterward,” the affidavit said.

He was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Monday. His bond was set at $15,250 and he was released around 3:30 a.m., online Davidson County Jail records show.

Wallen is “cooperating fully with authorities” following his arrest, his attorney Worrick Robinson told NBC News.

Chief's, two blocks from the famed Ryman Auditorium, was celebrating its opening this weekend.

Representatives for Church and the bar were not immediately available for comment.

Wallen, one of country's biggest names, was temporarily shunned from the business in 2021 when he was caught on video shouting a racial slur outside his Tennessee home after a night of partying in Nashville.

“There’s no excuse. I’ve never made an excuse. I never will make an excuse,” Wallen told Billboard in an interview two years after the controversry that nearly derailed his career.

In 2020,  he was pulled as the “Saturday Night Live” musical performer  after he  was seen in TikTok videos  partying without a mask and kissing women, putting him at risk for Covid during the pandemic.

Mayflower II will pass through Cape Cod Canal. Here's how to track its journey to Plymouth

By Neal Riley

Updated on: April 10, 2024 / 4:32 PM EDT / CBS Boston

PLYMOUTH - The Mayflower II is returning to Massachusetts, and you can track its journey home online.

The 67-year-old wooden ship, a replica of the vessel that brought the Pilgrims to America in 1620, departed Connecticut Wednesday morning at about 10:30 a.m. It spent the winter docked at the Mystic Seaport Museum, undergoing routine maintenance and getting a fresh coat of paint.

Mayflower II will travel through Cape Cod Canal

The journey from Mystic to Plymouth Harbor takes between 20 and 25 hours, and is dependent on many factors including tide and weather conditions. The Mayflower II is expected to go through the Cape Cod Canal sometime Thursday morning. The latest estimate is that it will enter the west end of the canal at about 6 a.m., though the time is subject to change.

"It may well be dark when the ship goes through the Cape Cod Canal," Plimoth Patuxet Museums said in a statement. "The canal is well lit and spectators would still be able to easily view the ship."

Track the Mayflower II

When the Mayflower II leaves from Mystic, towed by the Weymouth-based Stasinos Marine, you can track its journey on this website .

The Plimoth Patuxet Museums' Facebook page will also provide updates.

The 106-foot ship should arrive at the State Pier in Plymouth Thursday and it's expected to open up to the public on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Since the Mayflower II landed in Plymouth in 1957, more than 25 million have stepped on board to visit it, the museum says. The replica had $11.2 million worth of repairs finished in 2020.

Tickets to board the Mayflower II are $19 for adults, $17.10 for seniors and $13 for children.

Isabella Strahan shares positive update in brain tumor battle

The USC student revealed in January she is battling medulloblastoma.

Isabella Strahan shared some good news as she continues to battle medulloblastoma , a type of brain tumor.

Strahan revealed Wednesday on her YouTube channel that she will be done with chemotherapy in May after her treatments were reduced.

"My doctor just called me and told me I only have to do two more rounds of chemotherapy, and it's like the biggest thing. I'm so happy," Strahan said, while crying what she described as "happy tears." "So I'll be done in May and I can kind of try to have a summer to feel better."

Strahan, the daughter of " Good Morning America " co-anchor Michael Strahan , said she was originally told she would have to do six rounds of chemotherapy, which would have had her finishing treatments at the end of July.

Now, with her rounds of chemotherapy reduced to four, Isabella Strahan said she will have more time off from treatments before returning in the fall to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

The 19-year-old was just one month into her freshman year at USC last fall when she began experiencing headaches and nausea. After testing, doctors discovered she had developed a fast-growing 4-centimeter tumor, larger than a golf ball, in the back of her brain, which was diagnosed as medulloblastoma.

Medulloblastoma is a type of malignant tumor that accounts for about 20% of all childhood brain tumors, according to estimates published in the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience . About 300 children are diagnosed with medulloblastoma each year.

Since her diagnosis, which she revealed publicly in January, Isabella Strahan has undergone brain surgery as well as several rounds of radiation treatment.

She began chemotherapy in February and has endured several hospitalizations due to setbacks including fevers.
