Kannur: One person was killed and as many as 24 passengers were injured after a tourist bus collided with a goods truck in Kannur. The incident took place around 12.40 am on Tuesday at Thottada, Kannur.

As per reports, the bus was en route to Pathanamthitta from Mangalapuram while the truck was on its way to Kannur. The bus reportedly overturned, and a passenger died on the spot. The deceased has not been identified yet.

Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to various private hospitals in the area. The condition of two passengers remains critical. Whereas, the truck driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle’s cabin, was rescued by fire force officials.

The police have begun an investigation into the incident.

Tourist bus collides with truck in Kannur; one killed

A Kallada tourist bus collided with a truck in Kannur's Thottada on Tuesday (July 11) leaving one dead and 24 others injured.

Kannur: A tourist bus collided with a goods truck in Kannur on Tuesday (July 11) leaving one dead and 24 others injured. The incident happened around 12.40 am at Thottada, Kannur. The accident happened while the bus was on its way to Pathanamthitta from Malappuram while the truck was on its way to Kannur. 

The deceased has not been identified yet. According to reports, a total of 25 people suffered injuries in the tragedy and one passenger underwent emergency surgery. The body of the deceased has been shifted to Kannur district hospital.

A tourist bus of Kallada Travels turned on its side after ramming into the truck. The lorry driver is also reportedly in critical condition.

After hearing the passengers' screams, locals hurried to the area and helped with the rescue effort. Later, police and firefighters arrived on the scene and transported the injured people to hospitals.

Kannur: A person was killed and as many as 24 passengers were injured after a tourist bus collided with a goods truck in Kannur. The incident took place around 12.40 am on Tuesday at Thottada, Kannur.

As per reports, a tourist bus of Kallada Travels en route to Pathanamthitta from Mangaluru rammed into a mini container truck which was heading to Kannur. The ill-fated bus flipped after crashing into the truck. The bus reportedly overturned, and a passenger died on the spot. The deceased has not been identified yet.

Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to various private hospitals in the area. Whereas, the truck driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle’s cabin, was rescued by fire force officials. The injured lorry driver and bus passengers have been rushed to the nearby hospitals in Kannur. Two people are reportedly in critical condition. The police have begun an investigation into the incident.

Several tourists injured in serious bus accident

Niël Terblanché Emergency service from Swakopmund and Walvis Bay on Wednesday rushed to the scene of a mass casualty motor vehicle accident that occurred on the road into the Kuiseb River Canyon. Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumb, the head of the community affairs division of the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region confirmed the incident and said that investigators have been dispatched to the scene where at least 40 tourists have been injured. Members of the emergency services that responded to the call said that they were informed that at least one of the tourists passed away on the scene of the crash. It is alleged that one of the buses suffered a mechanical failure on its brakes as it was about to enter the Kuiseb River Canyon and that it smashed into an oncoming bus which was also transporting a group of tourists. After smashing into the oncoming bus on the road the bus without brakes fell over on its side before crashing into a smaller bus and a bakkie. Some of the first responders could establish from the tourists that both these smaller vehicles were parked next to the road to enable the tourists travelling in them to take pictures of the canyon from a lookout point. Chief Inspector Shapumba said that all available ambulances at the coast have been dispatched to the scene to assist injured tourists and to transport seriously injured people to hospitals. He added that a detailed report of the incident will made available at a later stage.

FOURTEEN people have died and 31 others are injured following a tragic bus crash in Mexico.

The bus overturned on the El Capulín-Chalma highway on the outskirts of the capital on Sunday.

Horror images from the scene showed a large white bus laying on its side, blocking the roadway.

Injured people were reportedly taken to the hospital in "code red", meaning the death toll may increase.

The passengers on the bus were travelling from Guanajuato to the sanctuary of Chalma for religious reasons, according to local media.

Road accidents are common and have been on the rise in Mexico since 2020.

In January, at least 19 people died and 22 people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a freight lorry.

Almost 50 people were said to have been on board when disaster struck on a highway in the township of Elota, near the port city of Mazatland in northern  Mexico .

The bus had been travelling from the city of Guadalajara, in the western state of Jalisco, to Los Mochis in Sinaloa.

The lorry reportedly overturned when the bus drove into it, causing both vehicles to catch fire.

Last year, at least 29 people were killed in Mexico when a passenger bus careered off a road and plummeted 80 feet into a ravine.

An investigation was launched into the cause of the accident, but early indications suggested it was the result of mechanical failure.

Passengers on the bus were travelling from Mexico City to tiny, remote mountain villages in the impoverished Mixteca region.

A tram vehicle at Universal Studios Hollywood threw “multiple” riders to the ground after it struck a guardrail near props from the “Jurassic Park” film franchise in an accident that is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Details of the accident that took place Saturday night — amid the 60th anniversary of the attraction — remain sketchy, but the CHP said the agency has determined that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash that injured 15 park visitors.

3:01 p.m. April 22, 2024 An earlier version of this article said 15 riders on the Universal Studios Hollywood tram attraction were thrown to the ground. The California Highway Patrol said “multiple” riders were thrown to the ground and that a total of 15 were injured.

The tram was driving through the storied Universal Studios back lot shortly after 9 p.m. when the crash occurred, according to authorities.

The linked tram cars passed by a set of props from the “Jurassic Park” film franchise when the tram driver turned onto Avenue M and for some unknown reason the last car in the procession collided with the metal guardrail on the right side, the CHP said. This caused the tram to “tilt and eject multiple passengers from the tram,” authorities said in a news release.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call for service shortly after 9 p.m. for the crash and 15 passengers were transported to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene but the CHP is the lead agency, a Universal Studios spokesperson said.

Firefighters and paramedics were on the scene and had assessed and treated 14 people, including bus riders and other vehicle passengers.

“Our thoughts continue to be with the guests who were involved, and we are thankful that based on agency reports, the injuries sustained were minor,” Universal Studios said in a statement.

The theme park is working closely with authorities as Universal Studios continues its “review of the incident and safety remains a top priority.”

The Studio Tour tram ride, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this week, will continue to operate with a modified route and the theme park will reinforce its “operational and safety protocols.”

The status of the injured passengers was unclear as of Monday.

In many ways, the tram ride came to define the theme park.

Over the years, countless riders have enjoyed close encounters with a robotic shark depicting the blood-thirsty animal in the movie “Jaws,” a terrifying stop outside the Bates Motel from the film classic “Psycho” and a harrowing escape from the clutches of King Kong.

Newer film franchises have joined the tour, including a stroll through a suburban neighborhood wasted by aliens from the 2005 film “War of the Worlds” to a western-themed sideshow from Jordan Peele’s 2022 movie “Nope.”

The tram tour got its start in 1964 when Universal Studios executives noticed that food sales at the studio commissary shot up after local tour buses were allowed past the studio gates to let fans get a glimpse of the back lot movie sets and props.

The first iteration of the attraction were the pink-and-white Glamour Trams, which carried about 38,200 riders in the first year. Passengers paid $2.50 for a two-and-a-half hour tour that included stops to see a stunt show and a movie makeup exhibition.

The most important theme park ride ever created? It may just be the Universal Studios tram tour, which dates to the silent film era. Once primarily a behind-the-scenes tour, the trek has evolved to define the modern theme park.

Later renamed the Universal Studios Studio Tour, the trams have since endured real life fires, labor strife, a series of expansions and at least one fatal accident.

The theme park launched a renovation project in 2022 to begin converting the diesel-hydraulic powered vehicles to run on electricity to reduce emissions. It is not clear if the tram that struck the guard rail was a newer electric vehicle or an older version.

This is not the first time an accident happened at the theme park. In 1986, a park employee was run over by the tram during a special Halloween “Fright Nights” show . Paul Rebalde, 20, was stationed on a parked tram filled with mannequins dressed to look like corpses, the Sheriff’s Department said at the time.

While in costume, Rebalde was to leap from among the mannequins on the parked tram and frighten people passing on moving trams, but was trapped between the third and fourth sections of one of the four-section moving trams and was run over and dragged to his death, according to authorities. The Halloween-themed attraction was paused for several years and later rebranded “Halloween Horror Nights.”

More recently, a stunt performer was hospitalized after performing in the “Waterworld” show in January 2023 . The performer was set on fire shortly before taking a leap off a tower in the show’s finale. The “Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular” show is inspired by the 1995 Kevin Costner film and opened months after the movie’s debut.

Tourist bus driver brought about Vadakkencherry accident, says report

Palakkad: Speeding by the driver of the tourist bus was the main reason for the accident involving a KSRTC bus at Vadakkencherry in which nine lives were lost. This is stated in the probe report of the Enforcement wing of the Motor Vehicles Department.

Right before the accident, the KSRTC bus had slowed down for a passenger to deboard, pointed out the report submitted to the Transport Commissioner by  Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement) M K Jayesh Kumar.

The tourist bus driver drove recklessly. While crossing the toll plaza at  Panniyankara, the KSRTC bus was ahead, followed by a car, pick-up van and then the tourist bus. But the speeding tourist bus overtook the pick-up van and car.

Vadakkencherry accident: KSRTC driver too responsible, states report

Impact was sudden, tried hard to bring the bus under control: KSRTC driver

One passenger wanted to get down as the KSRTC bus reached near the post office after the Vadakkencherry flyover. So, prior to halt, the bus slowed down about 50 metre before the accident spot.

And as the KSRTC bus moved forward as soon the passenger alighted, the tourist bus rammed its right rear side. After the impact, the tourist bus swerved to the median, then turned left, and ran on to the garbage pile on the roadside and overturned.

The absence of markings on the left edge of the national highway, the lack of streetlights, and the pile of garbage on the wayside increased the impact of the accident.

At the time of the accident, the speed of the KSRTC bus was less than 10kmph and that of the tourist bus was 97.7kmph.

The report was prepared based on the study carried out over 22 days with the technical assistance of agencies including Keltron.

Five school students were among the nine people killed in the accident that happened along the national highway, near the Kolathara bus stop, at Anjumoorthy Mangalam in Vadakkencherry on October 5. The tourist bus was heading to Ooty on an excursion trip of the students from the Mar Baselios Vidyanikethan School at Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam.

Troika Ticket

This is the most economical option if you're spending a few days in the Russian capital. The card can be purchased and recharged at various station machines or even with the special Moscow Metro application. Your balance can be checked on the app or in the small yellow terminals inside the metro stations. A trip works out at ₽ 42 ( US$ 0.50), but if you change transport within 90 minutes, you'll only pay ₽ 23 ( US$ 0.20) for the next trip.

The day ticket for the Moscow metro can be purchased at any of the stops in the city. The price is ₽ 265 ( US$ 2.80) per day and ₽ 500 ( US$ 5.40) for three days.

90-Minute Ticket

The most convenient card if you want to take several types of transport within an hour and a half period. It costs  ₽ 65 ( US$ 0.70) per person and allows one metro ride and an unlimited number of trips on other types of public transport in Moscow during the time of its duration.
