SNOOKER tournaments keep coming thick and fast and next on the rota is the Tour Championship 2024 - with Ronnie O'Sullivan in action NOW.

Shaun Murphy currently holds the title after beating Kyren Wilson in what turned out to be an incredible 2023 final.

But there is guaranteed to be a new champion with Murphy not participating and the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan , Judd Trump and Mark Allen are all set to be in action.

What is the schedule and how does it work?

The Tour Championship 2024 is the third and final event in the Players Series that brings the best players of the season together based on current form.

In recent years, it had been a field of eight players but this will be expanded to the top 12 from the one-year ranking list.

Organisers have confirmed that the top four will be seeded straight into the quarter-finals, with the other eight to compete in the opening round.

Ronnie O'Sullivan absolutely destroyed rival Ali Carter in the first session of their quarter-final, as he leads by six frames. The rest of their clash is set to resume at 7pm.

The world champion attacked on the Koppenberg and he was no match for the rest of the riders in the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Grey skies and consistent rain: it must be the Tour of Flanders.

The conditions were fitting for the the second Monument of the season—arguably the best of the bunch. The 2024 Ronde van Vlaanderen brought more thrills as we continue to chug through the best part of the cycling season.

Here’s how both the men’s and women’s races played out at the 2024 Tour of Flanders.

Van der Poel captures record-tying third Flanders victory

Mathieu van der Poel won the 2024 Tour of Flanders, making his definitive move with 43 kilometers to go, and once he did, he left no doubt about it.

It was a vintage cycling scene up the brutal cobbled Koppenberg with 43km to go in the race. It was there that it was all blown apart. Van der Poel laid waste to the rest of the field up the treacherous climb, that gets as steep as 22% at its worst. While many of the riders had to dismount their bikes and try to run up the hill, van der Poel (have you heard he’s a cyclocross star?) stormed ahead. His advantage only grew after that, and it quickly became apparent that it was a race for second.

The world champion and Alpecin-Deceuninck leader solo’d for the last hour of the race. It’s van der Poel’s third win at the Tour of Flanders, tying six others for the most wins in the Momument’s history.

Pedersen tried some interesting tactics to try and steal it from van der Poel. The Ghent-Wevelgem winner from a few weeks ago gapped the peloton with over 86km to go. He was able to establish an advantage over 25 seconds, but was eventually reeled back in before the Paterberg.

Luca Mozzato (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) was a surprise second place, out-sprinting a strong field of riders at the end to grab a podium spot, 1:02 behind van der Poel. Nils Politt (UAE Team Emirates) was third in the same time with Michael Matthews (Team Jayco-AlUla) relegated.

9 years after her first Flanders victory, Longo Borghini wins for a record second time

While the men’s race lacked drama in the final hour, the women’s race packed a ton of action into the last 45 kilometers, once the riders got on the nasty Koppenberg. In the end, Elisa Longo Borghini sprinted to the win—with the help of a teammate—to win the Tour of Flanders for the second time in her career, nine years after winning the race in 2015.

Longo Borghini won a three rider sprint to the finish over her Lidl-Trek teammate Shirin van Anrooij and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon–SRAM). Van Anrooji provided the leadout for Longo Borghini, who seized the opportunity at the end and out-sprinted Niewiadoma for the victory.

Longo Borghini is the fifth rider to win the Tour of Flanders twice. No rider has ever won three. It was a 1-3 finish for the Lidl-Trek squad to cap off a big day for the team.

The Koppenberg proved to be a pivotal moment in the race. The unbelievably steep climb—made no easier by wet and rainy conditions—claimed many victims. It broke the race apart, with two-time defending champion Lotte Kopecky, as well as her SD Worx-Protime teammate Demi Vollering, among many others losing ground

Those two, along with van Anrooij, were able to make their way back to the lead group. Van Anrooij wasted no time and launched an attack off the front when the chasers rejoined the lead group. From there, she was able to gap the field.

With 12km to go, Longo Borghini and Niewiadoma caught van Anrooij, and the chase group—including Kopecky, Vollering, and Marianne Vos—didn’t have the power to bridge the gap to the three leaders and it set up to be a three-rider race to the finish.

Longo Borghini handled the Koppenberg well, and rode arguably the most consistent race of the other contenders in the race. Surely, that helped her in the end, as she was able to catch van Anrooji for the run into the finish, and sprint to the win.

There was no three-peat for the world champion Kopecky, who won Flanders in 2022 and 2023. Going for a record third win in the classic, she spent much of the latter part of the race chasing down gaps. Vos took fourth, winning the sprint of the best of the rest on the day.

CCPA directs Kesari Tours to refund cancelled tour amounts to 461 consumers

The central consumer protection authority has ordered kesari tours pvt ltd to refund 461 tourists their entire costs with interest for tours cancelled due to covid-19. the order also directs the company to refund cancellation charges and forfeiture charges and to refrain from forcing consumers to undertake future tours to adjust the refund amount. the total amount to be refunded is ₹6.96 crore. the order gives the company four weeks to comply..

MUMBAI: In a landmark order, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), a new authority set up under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, has directed Kesari Tours Pvt Ltd to refund 461 tourists their entire costs with nine percent interest for the tours that got cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The order dated November 28 by CCPA chief commissioner Nidhi Khare also directed the Mumbai-based travel company to refund the 25 percent cancellation charges and forfeiture charges from consumers who paid only the initial advance amount as well as rescheduling charges recovered from consumers. It also asked Kesari to refrain permanently from forcing consumers to undertake future tours to adjust the refund amount. The order gave four weeks to the company to comply. The total amount paid by consumers, many of whom were senior citizens, in 189 bookings works out to ₹ 6.96 crore.

Leading consumer rights protection body Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) had filed a class action complaint before the Delhi-based CCPA in 2020 against Kesari Tours, seeking directions for a full refund of the money paid towards the cancelled tours. It produced a list of 461 Kesari consumers who were denied a refund.

CCPA is a newly created central authority under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which is mandated to protect the interest of consumers as a class and prevent violation of consumer rights and unfair trade practices.

MGP had alleged in its complaint that instead of refunding the cost of cancelled tours, Kesari Tours was forcing consumers to undertake future tours against their wishes and that too after levying cancellation charges and additionally recovering rescheduling charges. MGP contended that these actions of Kesari Tours violated consumer rights and constituted typical unfair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act.

Kesari Tours initially responded to the CCPA notice and filed its replies. However, when an interim order was passed by CCPA on November 18, 2021, directing the company to refund 75 percent of the tour cost, the company obtained a stay from the Delhi high court. In May 2023, the HC asked the company to go back to CCPA and satisfy the Authority regarding its claim that 80 percent of cases had been settled.

The CCPA listed the case for hearing four times from May 2023 till November 17 and asked Kesari to place the records of the claimed refunds before it. However, the company did not produce the relevant records and wrote to CCPA a day before the November 17 hearing that the Delhi HC had scheduled a hearing on January 10, 2024, and hence it would not participate in further proceedings before the Authority.

Noting that Kesari Tours’ deliberate absence for the hearings constituted defiance of the Authority, the CCPA finally disposed of the MGP complaint by holding that “refusal to give refund to consumers whose tours were cancelled due to Covid Pandemic lockdown amounts to violation of consumer right to get full refund, besides being gross Unfair Trade Practice”. The MGP team of chairman Shirish Deshpande, Dr Archana Sabnis and Adv Pooja Joshi- Deshpande represented the consumers.

When contacted, Zelam Chaubal, director, Kesari Tours Pvt Ltd said, “Kesari Tours and some other travel companies have already challenged the authority of CCPA to pass any such baseless orders in this matter. The matter is pending with the honourable higher court, and we are awaiting further instructions from them.”

2024 Houston Open leaderboard, scores: Scottie Scheffler eyes third straight PGA Tour win heading into Round 4

The top name in the game will aim to emerge from a congested leaderboard on sunday.

We've seen this movie before and may know exactly how it ends. Scottie Scheffler will take a share of the lead into the final round of the 2024 Houston Open with eyes on his third straight PGA Tour victory. With one, he joins the likes of Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson as the most recent players to accomplish such a feat -- this, in Scheffler's final start before the Masters in two weeks. 

Scheffler stands at 9 under, alongside David Skinns, Stephan Jaeger, Thomas Detry and Alejandro Tosti, thanks to an eight-birdie 66 on Saturday. In total, 21 players find themselves within five strokes of the lead, setting up what is sure to be dramatic final round in Houston. 

That is unless the Sunday Scheffler from the past two tournaments appears once again.

Gaining more than seven strokes on the field in the final round en route to victory at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship, Scheffler has thrived when the tension has been at its highest. He will need to be at his best again; back-nine mistakes have allowed a litany of players a chance to reign supreme on Sunday.

Seemingly without a crack in his armor with a new mallet putter in tow, Scheffler hasn't been his sharpest with his long game the last two days. A couple of water balls and a double bogey on Friday were shrugged off as outliers, but there the mistakes were again on Saturday.

Greenside in one on the drivable par-4 13th, Scheffler chipped across the green and made bogey on a hole where most players added a circle to their scorecard. Another short hole a few moments later bit Scheffler, however, when his tee shot on the par-3 15th landed 6 feet short of the pin, spun off the front and into the water leading to another double bogey.

The world No. 1 rebooted, as he so often does, and tacked on birdies on 16 and 17 to erase the mistake; however, it is the difference between sleeping on the lead alone and sleeping on it with four others. No matter how many are in with a chance, Scheffler remains the favorite. Should his usual game come through in the final round, the Texan will find himself in a place where he has become all too familiar: the winner's circle.

The leaders

T1. Scottie Scheffler, Stephan Jaeger, David Skinns, Alejandro Tosti, Thomas Detry (-9)

This isn't exactly a Murderers' Row of contenders for Scheffler, but this thing won't be handed to him. The four others acquitted themselves quite nicely in the third round, with Jaeger in particular standing out. The German has added some new pop in the big stick thanks to dedicated distance training, and it is paying dividends. 

Like Scheffler, he made some silly mistakes with missed par putts from 6 feet and 4 feet to go along with a water ball on 17 (where he managed to save par), but he is still right there. With final-round experience under his belt from the Farmers Insurance Open and playing alongside Scheffler on Saturday, Jaeger could be frisky.

"Yeah, that guy, he's pretty good," Jaeger said of Scheffler. "No, it was fun, right? That's kind of what we practice for, and we try to get in the lead and we're trying to have a chance to win. So, I'm excited."

T6. Taylor Moore, Akshay Bhatia, Nick Dunlap (-8) T9. Chad Ramey, Aaron Rai, Max Greyserman, Tony Finau (-7)

The round of the day came courtesy of Dunlap's bogey-free 63, which has positioned the 20-year-old to contend for his second PGA Tour title. Ever since breaking through as an amateur at The American Express, Dunlap has struggled ever so slightly as a professional. Though that dip was not totally unexpected, he nevertheless finished dead last at Pebble Beach and missed the cuts at Riviera and TPC Sawgrass. He also failed to register top 40s at Bay Hill and PGA National. Dunlap continues to learn each and every week, and Sunday will serve as yet another lesson with a chance to win again.

"It's still new, and I still get lost and don't know where to register and don't know where dining is," said Dunlap. "As far as I'm getting a little bit more comfortable out there. It obviously helps, today played alongside Gary [Woodland] and almost every week playing with either Scottie [Scheffler] or Sam [Burns], practice rounds, just being in their company has helped me."

It is really hard to pick anyone other than the best player in the world over the last two years. Scheffler has a wave of momentum at his back, and yet in all honesty he seems to be playing with his C-game. If the A-game comes through for him on Sunday, Scheffler should run away from the field. (He may still have enough in the tank even if he doesn't.) If 7/5 is too light for your taste, then consider Moore at 12-1. His short game has been great through 54 holes and should keep him in it. If his ball-striking shows up, then he will have a chance.

It’s the final week before the season’s first major, with four of the world’s top-10 players heading to TPC San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open.

The Aon Swing 5 for the RBC Heritage will also be finalized this week. With less than 10 FedExCup points separating Nos. 5 to 7 in the Aon Swing 5 standings heading into this week, it’s set to be a dramatic finish at TPC San Antonio.

The winner – if not already qualified – also earns the final invite to the Masters, something that’s happened in two of the last four Valero Texas Opens.

Here’s everything else you need to know as the TOUR’s Texas two-step continues in San Antonio.

FIELD NOTES: Rory McIlroy returns to make his third start of this event’s TPC San Antonio era; he finished runner-up in 2013 and missed the cut in 2022. Since McIlroy’s last Valero start, he has won six times worldwide … Corey Conners will look to become the first back-to-back winner at the Valero Texas Open since Zach Johnson in 2008-09. He is also looking to join Justin Leonard and Arnold Palmer as the event’s only three-time winners … Jordan Spieth , the 2021 winner, returns to action. He looks to right the ship leading into the Masters after missing his last two cuts on TOUR … Collin Morikawa is making his tournament debut. It’s been an up-and-down 2024 campaign for Morikawa so far, with just one top-10 finish in six starts … Max Homa is set to tee it up in San Antonio for the first time since 2019 … Ludvig Åberg will play the Valero Texas Open for the first time as a pro after missing the cut in 2022. Åberg has gone 7-for-7 in cuts made this season and has three top-10s, including an eighth-place finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, his last TOUR start. Åberg is set to make his major championship debut next week at the Masters … Reigning Open champion Brian Harman returns to TPC San Antonio for the first time since 2019. His best finish to date is a T16 in 2014 … Upwards of 25 players in the field are also headed to the Masters. This marks the final opportunity for Masters qualification; if the winner this week is not already in the field, they’ll punch the final ticket to Augusta National.

SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS: Joe Sullivan, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, won the inaugural Valero Texas Collegiate last September to earn a spot in this week’s Valero Texas Open – prevailing in a three-man playoff. Sullivan, who is from England, spent his first three collegiate seasons at Jacksonville University. He led the team in scoring average in 2022-23 … Ryan Palmer has played every Valero Texas Open hosted by TPC San Antonio and is back in action this week. He notched three straight top-six finishes from 2015-17 at this event … Padraig Harrington will play his second straight PGA TOUR event after winning the Hoag Classic Newport Beach on PGA TOUR Champions two weeks ago. Harrington finished T10 at the Valero Texas Open last year. SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: Stephan Jaeger’s win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open saw him move to No. 3 in the Aon Next 10 standings; however, he’ll be exempt for the remaining Signature Events in 2024 regardless of his position in the Aon Next 10 by virtue of his victory at Memorial Park … Thomas Detry , after finishing T2 in Houston, jumped inside the Aon Next 10 standings from No. 13 to No. 9 … The next Signature Event on the PGA TOUR schedule is the RBC Heritage. The Aon Swing 5 standings for that event started with the Puerto Rico Open and have continued through the Valspar Championship and Texas Children’s Houston Open; this week’s Valero Texas Open marks the final event to try to qualify … Alejandro Tosti (T2 in Houston) and Billy Horschel (T7 in Houston) both moved inside the Aon Swing 5 and are both teeing it up this week at TPC San Antonio … The Aon Next 10 for the RBC Heritage will be finalized after the Masters.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: With his win at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, Stephan Jaeger jumped to No. 10 in the standings, a move up 37 spots … Scottie Scheffler kept a stranglehold on the No. 1 spot of the FedExCup standings after his tie for second in Houston … Nick Taylor was bumped by Jaeger from No. 10 to No. 11 … The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 remained unchanged with Byeong Hun An and Chris Kirk remaining as the only players to be inside the TOUR TOP 10 for every week so far this season.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 500 FedExCup points.

COURSE: TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course), 7,438 yards, par 72. Opened in January 2010, the layout features just 100 feet of elevation and boasts a traditional design that balances wider fairways with narrower tree-lined fairways for strategic options to the greens. The downhill holes often play into the prevailing wind while uphill holes play downwind. This is the 15th time the design will play host to the Valero Texas Open.

LAST TIME: Corey Conners won the Valero Texas Open for the second time in his career, closing with a 4-under 68. Conners was a shot back of Patrick Rodgers through 54 holes, but the Canadian built up a three-shot advantage through 15 holes Sunday. Rookie Sam Stevens eagled the par-5 17th but missed a 9-foot birdie try on the 72nd hole that would have tied it. Conners, who had the first-round lead after a 64, tapped in for par on 18 to win by one. Sam Ryder and Matt Kuchar finished a shot back of Stevens, at 13 under, and tied for third. Rodgers shot a 1-over 73 in the final round and ended up fifth.
