Live A12 traffic updates as crash blocks road near Marks Tey causing severe delays

Traffic has been stopped on the southbound carriageway following the major crash

A crash has blocked the A12 near Colchester today (December 12) with severe delays in the area. The incident has taken place near junction 26 at Marks Tey and congestion is building back around Colchester.

There are severe delays in the area as emergency services attend the scene. The road was blocked and then partially reopened before being shut again in the last half an hour.

It is not yet known how many vehicles were involved in the crash or if there have been any serious injuries. Traffic remains at a standstill. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area completely.

Traffic still faces 30-minute delays

There continues to be delays of around 30 minutes on the northbound, despite the earlier accident being cleared.

National Highways East posted an update on social media, saying: "All lanes are now open on the #A12 northbound between J24 #Kelvedon and J25 #Braintree. There are around 30 minute delays in the area but this is easing now. Thanks for being patient."

Separate crash in the same area causing delays

Despite the previous crash clearing, there has been another incident in the construction area of the A12 southbound near junction 27. Traffic is able to pass but the congestion remains all the way back to the north of Colchester. Full details below:

Some congestion remains

Google Maps shows that there is still heavy traffic on the A12 leading up to junction 26 where the closure happened. With the road reopened, this is likely to clear gradually, but motorists can still expect delays.

The A12 has now been cleared and is fully reopen following the earlier crash and fuel spill.

Video shows cars reversing up contraflow lane as closure continues

A video from the scene shows motorists stuff in the southbound carriageway reversing up the contraflow lane of the A12 - which is in place around existing and un-related improvement works.

The road is still shut southbound while the clean-up operation to remove the fuel continues.

'Significant' fuel spillage on road

National Highways has said there has been a "significant fuel spillage" on the road and travel time is delayed by at least 60 minutes. A spokesman said: "Traffic is currently stopped on the A12 in Essex southbound between J26 near Colchester and J25 near MarksTey following a collision.

"Emergency services are in attendance. Delays of at least 60 minutes above 'normal' travel times. Please allow extra journey time." They later tweeted: "The A12 in #Essex is now fully CLOSED southbound between J26 near Colchester and J25 at Marks Tey following a collision which has resulted in a significant fuel spillage across the carriageway. A clear-up operation will be ongoing throughout the afternoon."

It is likely that the road will remain closed for some time.

Ambulance service releases statement

The East of England Ambulance Service has confirmed two people have been taken to hospital following the crash.

A spokesman said: "We were called at 10.09am with reports of a collision on the A12 near junctions 25 and 26. We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team, an ambulance officer vehicle and two ambulances.

"Two people were taken to Colchester General Hospital for further care."

How bad is the traffic?

There is severe congestion all the way back to junction 28 to the north of Colchester. The issue is also drastically increasing traffic and congestion within Colchester itself with Cymbeline Way leading away from junction 27 facing severe delays.

The A134 southbound outside Colchester Hospital is also severely congested.

Please, please, please. Don’t let cars going A12 southbound after J27 to be in 3 lanes and then after a few yards back in 2. Put the cones as cars are approaching J27and NOT AFTER the junction where there are 3 lanes for another 2 junctions. During your “invisible roadworks” (as usual) keep the whole stretch of the A12 between J27 and J25 as 2 lanes. Believe me, hat makes all the difference. Unless, of course, there is a policy to make endless queues, wherever you can, so motorists have to spent much more fuel, in order to help the poor oil companies…..

Absolutely no planning at all. Travelling from London to Frinton on the night of 22/9/23. Road closed at Marks Tey, diversion through Stanway and Colchester…….so they decide to dig up the road in the middle of the diversion as well….total lack of communication between local authorities and contractors. Turned into a 2.5 hr journey !!!!!.

Absolute farce. Southbound last night 30/08. Diversion signs on the route from the start of the closures almost non existent and confusing bearing in mind the diversion is along narrow very bendy single carriageways. All made worse by the dimmed or turned off street lights on the return journey through Colchester. As an aside, what use is a smallish yellow warning sign before each overbridge that says ‘warning overhead structure’? If a driver cannot see a very large concrete bridge twenty yards in front of him/her they are not going to notice a small yellow sign are they?

I’m sure one night we were going around in circles. So went back to Ipswich and got back on the old routes!

Instead of spending the now mandatory excessive millions on widening one road, why not use those millions to build another road to service this part of the East of England. That way there are no lane closures, no queues, no disruption to people’s work day. Tonight the A12 is closed from Colchester, the people stuck on it can’t even get off as surrounding roads are gridlocked. We’ll done decision makers, just another expensive mess the tax paying public have to put up with. Pity we don’t all have helicopters !!!

A12 diversion route as motorists face huge detour due to lorry crash near Witham

M otorists are facing a huge detour through Essex due to a serious collision on the A12 near Witham. The southbound carriageway between J22 and J21 has been closed since the early hours on Monday (February 5) following a crash involving a lorry.

The vehicle is said to have collided with the central reservation and bridge structure. Essex Police attended the scene and arrested a man who was the lorry driver.

Specialist recovery agents are now working to remove the vehicle from the network, which will be protracted due to the way the lorry came to rest. Once recovery is complete, barrier crews will attend the scene to assess the extent of damage caused to the central reservation.

In the meantime, motorists are being advised to follow a detour diversion route. They should exit the A12 southbound at J25 Marks Tey and follow the A120 through Marks Tey, Coggeshall, Bradwell and Braintree.

Then exit the A120 at Panners Interchange follow the A131 through Great Notley and Great Leighs to the A131/A130/B1008 roundabout. At the roundabout take the first exit and continue on the A130 through Chelmsford to re-join the A12 southbound at J19 Boreham.

A spokesperson for Essex Police previously said: "National Highways are leading the response to this incident and the southbound carriageway is expected to be closed until this afternoon. Please avoid the area if you can and plan your journey.

"We’re working with National Highways to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and thank you for your patience and understanding."

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.
