Upcoming OS and DirectX Support Changes
By Julia (nitocris83) | Wed 15 Sep 2021 08:22:21 AM PDT
Note: These changes are now finalized and live as of February 15, 2022.
As of February 15, 2022, Star Trek Online and Neverwinter will no longer be supporting Windows 7 and Direct3D Feature Level 10. This decision was made in order to improve game performance, optimize the player experience, and facilitate future development. In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, we have put together some detailed information.
What Operating System should I be upgrading to?
After February 15, Windows 8 or 10 (64-bit) will be required. For the best play experience, we recommend Windows 10.
What will be the updated graphics requirements?
To play Star Trek Online and Neverwinter after February 15, 2022 you will need a video card that supports Direct3D Feature Level 11.0 or better. This includes:
• NVidia GeForce GTX 400 or better
• ATI/AMD Radeon HD 5000 or better
• Intel HD Graphics 4000 or better
Above all, take a close look at the Video Card manufacturer’s documentation for any card you are going to purchase, and ensure that the card specifically says it supports Direct3D Hardware Feature Level 11 or higher.
What happens if I don’t upgrade by February 15?
Starting in November 2021, if you are running on Windows 7 or using a Video Card with a Direct3D Feature Level 10, you will be informed of the upcoming incompatibility via the launcher.
As of February 15, 2022, STO and NW will no longer be supporting Windows 7 or a Video Card with a Direct3D Feature Level less than 11. Players who do not meet the updated requirements will get a pop-up over the launcher indicating this and the launcher will close automatically when clicking OK. It will not be possible to log in or patch without upgrading.
Please post in the respective game forum thread to let us know if you have further questions. We will update this post with any additional notices or clarifications as needed.

Go to Star Trek Online.exe and make a shortcut. Go to the properties of the Star Trek Online shortcut and add at the end of target the following: -console. Afterwards, start up Star Trek Online using the shortcut. A command prompt console should come up that will bring up some very valuable information about the issue.
Right click on the game in your Steam library. Choose PROPERTIES. Then select the LOCAL FILES tab and choose VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME CACHE to see if this resolves the issue. Run as administrator... / Reinstall MSVC++ Runtime Libraries. This is particularly helpful if you are getting a silent failure on launch.
Using Task Manager to close it and reopening usually fixes it. The solution: Open the STO Launcher where you hit Engage to launch the game. Click OPTIONS at the top. Add the following to the Command box: -ArcOverlayEnable 0. Click Save and close Arc and the STO Launcher. Now launch the game. Problem solved.

Try to use another launcher, or not launcher at all. In fact, go into your game folder and find a file named gameclient.exe, run it. If you use steam, try to not use steam. If you use arc, try to not use arc. Try to find the official launcher without arc/steam, thats the one im running.
Game. Full screen. Safe mode (i.e. minimum graphics settings) Launch QA Client.
Start up Arc and the launcher for the game. Click the Options link at the top. Next click on the box that says Force Verify. Once that completes in a few minutes, 99.9% of the time it will work. On that rare occasion, reboot your PC and do it again. 2.
was getting diddly squat here for a while now i've got 100+MB download for the launcher. i call shenanigans. UPDATE: got about 25MBs of it (slowly) then it restarted. looks like servers derped pretty hard. UPDATE 2: after MANY repeats, it LOOKS like it working. The Launcher is in a update loop.

If that doesn't do it, right click the icon and select 'properties' so you can see the location of the Arc Launcher executable. Then delete the shortcut you have and create a new one from there.
