Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Episode 14, 'Crossroads,' Recap & Spoilers
Star Trek: Prodigy brings back a familiar face from The Next Generation as the Protostar goes on the run. Here's a recap of the Paramount+ series.
The following contains spoilers for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1, Episode 14, "Crossroads," now streaming on Paramount+.
As Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway and the crew of the USS Dauntless close in on the missing USS Protostar , Dal and the makeshift crew encounter a familiar face from Star Trek history in Captain Thadiun Okona -- Billy Campbell reprising his fan-favorite role. With the Protostar suspected of destroying a Starfleet comms relay, Dal and his friends are among the most wanted figures in the galaxy. And when the two starships finally cross paths, the entire diplomatic balance in the Alpha Quadrant comes under threat, with Okona as the wild card smack dab in the middle of the potential incident.
In an effort to ensure the Protostar doesn’t threaten any more Federation personnel, Dal and his friends decide to shut down the starship's systems and seek alternative transportation to Federation space after their encounter with a doomed starship . Hiding the Protostar on a frozen world, the crew walks to a Delta Quadrant outpost that has become a safe haven for smugglers and other problematic types. Admiral Janeway and the crew of the USS Dauntless track the Protostar to the planet and arrive to search for the missing Starfleet starship. But that's only the start of their problems.

Dal and his colleagues are greeted by Okona, a scoundrel who previously encountered the USS Enterprise -D in Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 2, Episode 4, "The Outrageous Okona." After Okona is taken into custody by local officials for smuggling, Dal’s group splits up and they each encounter a member of Janeway’s landing party. Jankom Pog is ridiculed by Doctor Noum over his status within Tellarite society, while Gwyn goes into hiding when Ensign Ascencia realizes she is the Diviner’s daughter.
After Janeway interrogates the Starfleet officer at the destroyed comms relay , she deduces that the children she saw around the depot are responsible for the attack on the installation. On the run from Starfleet personnel and the local authorities, Zero discovers that Okona has stowed away on their getaway vehicle they flee across the snowy expanse. Dal takes Okona with them back to the Protostar , and they try to escape.

Janeway and her landing party return to the Dauntless in time to intercept the Protostar as it enters warp speed and the pursuit intensifies. Realizing that opening a comms channel with the Dauntless runs the risk of infecting it with the secret weapon on the Protostar , Dal rejects hails; Gwyn warns this could be perceived as a sign of hostility. In the midst of the chase, Murf hatches from his cocoon in the evolution of his newly revealed species . He's now no longer a slug-like being but in a more humanoid form with legs and arms... but he accidentally strikes the Dauntless with an errant torpedo as he gets used to his new body.
Janeway orders the Dauntless to return fire, hindering the Protostar ’s proto drive and forcing Dal to order the starship to seek refuge. Its only place to go is the Neutral Zone, despite the diplomatic implications because of the Federation's fragile cease fire with the Romulan Empire. Janeway's crew refuses to trigger a conflict with the Romulans. But several Romulan warships appear anyway and accuse Janeway of committing an act of war , ending "Crossroads" on a cataclysmic cliffhanger.
Created by Kevin and Dan Hageman, Star Trek: Prodigy releases new episodes Thursdays on Paramount+.

Star Trek: Prodigy Episode 14 “Crossroads” Review: The best of both worlds
Review: Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 Episode 14 “Crossroads”
True to its name, “Crossroads” sees the crew of the Protostar and the Dauntless finally meet, but can Dal and his found family outsmart Vice Admiral Janeway without exposing his dangerous ship to Starfleet?
Knowing the Protostar is poisonous to any Starfleet ship it connects to, Captain Dal ( Brett Gray ) and his crew make the wise choice to bury the Protostar on an ice planet. Hiding their ship and saying goodbye to Hologram Janeway ( Kate Mulgrew ) indefinitely is no small choice, but the crew shows an impressive level of maturity by ditching their home and endeavoring to find Starfleet another way. For better or worse, they don’t have to travel far from the Protostar ’s burial site to accomplish that mission.
At a nearby depot, the crew stumbles upon a familiar face to Star Trek fans: Thadiun Okona, voiced by William O. Campbell , who is reprising the character from the TNG episode “The Outrageous Okona.” Okona seems harmless enough, and initially offers the Protostar crew passage off the planet, but before anything else can happen Okona is stopped by the local authorities for smuggling. But don’t worry, there is more in store for the kids before their time in the depot is over.
Vice Admiral Janeway has found her own way to the ice planet, and she and her crew, including First Officer Tysess ( Daveed Diggs ), Navigator Ascenia ( Jameela Jamil ), and Chief Medical Officer Noum ( Jason Alexander ), beam into the town and start searching. The only information Janeway has is what the still-recovering Diviner ( John Noble ) has told her; namely, that his daughter’s name is Gwyndalla.
“Jankom is so excited to be meeting a fellow Tellarite! Consider me underwhelmed.” “I consider you under something. Undersized pauper.” – Jankom and Noum.
The two crews do initially mix without knowing each other’s true identity. Jankom Pog ( Jason Mantzoukas ), for example, runs across fellow Tellarite Noum, where Noum, true to form, is incredibly rude to the smaller, scruffier Tellarite, noting how the last name “Pog” is reserved for the runts of the species. (Yeah, we still don’t care for Noum. He definitely doesn’t seem like Starfleet material, or someone Janeway would surround herself with.) Gwyn, meanwhile, runs across Ascenia, and the Starfleet officer does realize that Gwyn must be the Diviner’s daughter. The ensign tells Gwyn that her father is on the Dauntless , but the spooked Vau N’Akat ditches the other woman fairly easily.
The two captains, Dal and Janeway, encounter each other, and Dal is a bit starstruck. Janeway picks up immediately that Dal, who as far as Janeway knows is just an innocent alien kid, wants to enlist in Starfleet. Before the two can talk about anything else, Barniss Frex ( Eric Bauza) , who Dal knows would show no mercy to the kids after they blew up his station, shows up and spooks Dal into leaving the conversation before anything substantial can come of his and Janeway’s engagement. Frex offers Janeway vague descriptions of the Protostar crew, and the vice admiral quickly realizes the kid she was just talking to must be one of the station’s attackers.
So yes, the Dauntless crew spot the Protostar crew, the latter of which thinks Starfleet has it out for them considering they have a stolen Starfleet vessel and destroyed a Federation space station. Our heroes realize they must get back to the Protostar before Janeway finds it and accidentally uses the Living Construct. A high-speed chase between the Protostar crew and the depot’s security follows across the icy landscape as the crew gets back to their ship.
Mid-chase, the crew realizes Okona stowed away on their speeder, and he turns out to be a valuable teammate in losing their pursuers. The crew makes it back to the Protostar and launches a quick getaway, but the Dauntless is not far behind as the two ships enter high warp. Complicating the issue is that Dal and his crew can’t open a channel to the Dauntless , as then the smaller ship will infect the vice admiral’s vessel and cause untold damage. The bigger ship quickly overtakes its nimble prey and knocks it out of warp – no thanks to a newly hatched and now bipedal Murf ( Dee Bradley Baker ) – before it can use its protostar drive, all but ensuring Janeway can get her hands on the ship and question its crew about Chakotay’s whereabouts.
However, Okona makes a daring suggestion to help them avoid capture: make their way into the nearby Romulan Neutral Zone (convenient!), under cover of a handy shield modulation (convenient!), so that the law-abiding Janeway can’t pursue. The plan seems to work, as three Romulan warbirds hold up the Dauntless as the Protostar makes a sneaky escape. What Dal and his crew do in the Neutral Zone will have to wait until next week, as well as how Janeway continues to pursue the Protostar even though it’s in an inaccessible place.
There is one sticking point we have about the end of this episode. First Officer Tysess notes his concern about the Dauntless entering the Neutral Zone, to which Janeway replies it would be worse to let the Protostar tech fall into Romulan hands. Tysess then asserts Janeway is only thinking about Chakotay and doesn’t follow her order. We must ask: isn’t Janeway’s logic good enough? It’s sensible to not want the Protostar , a highly advanced Starfleet ship, to land in the Federation’s enemy’s hands. Why does Tysess ignore this logic and flatly disobey Janeway’s orders on the basis that her emotions might be driving her?
In any case, “Crossroads” is a fast-paced episode with plenty of action, all in the name of showing what happens when the real Janeway and the runaway kids finally meet. It’s an event four episodes in the making, and the wait seemed to be worth it. Having the real Janeway give Dal some thought-provoking advice about not letting fear get in the way of achieving your goals will likely be a lesson he and his crew use in their future adventures – and this is even more intriguing because the two crews will likely be running into each other for some time to come.
Stray Thoughts:
- Why is Ascenia, the navigator, helping the Diviner in his recovery?
- Why does Dal immediately dismiss Okona and say the crew could “do better than this guy”? All Okona asked was what goods the kids had to trade for passage, which is a perfectly reasonable question.
- Okona pulls out containers of chlorine trifluoride to help propel their speeder. This is a real type of propellant that is used in rocket fuel.
- We learn the upper limit of the Protostar ’s maximum “normal” warp speed is 9.97, which, for context, is fairly close to Voyager ’s maximum warp of 9.975.
- Why does the Diviner, in sickbay, get a front-seat view of the Protostar chase?
- Zero notes that going into the Neutral Zone set off a Priority Seven Red Alert, which just begs for an explanation about what qualifies for priority 1-6 red alerts.

Star Trek: Prodigy: next episode, trailer and everything we know about the Star Trek animated series
Star Trek: Prodigy is the latest Paramount Plus original set in the Star Trek universe.
Paramount Plus has become the home of all-new Star Trek content, and the animated kids’ series Star Trek: Prodigy is one of the biggest new hits from the ever-expanding Star Trek universe.
Star Trek: Prodigy joins Star Trek: Discovery , Star Trek: Lower Decks , Star Trek: Picard , Star Trek: Short Treks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on the Paramount Plus streaming service. What makes it stand out from its sister series is that it is specifically geared toward a younger audience, a first according to Paramount Plus.
Information on Star Trek: Prodigy and all of Paramount Plus’ Star Trek series was shared during the September 2021 Star Trek Day presentation , but if you want to find out about everything you need to know about Star Trek: Prodigy , read on below.
Next episode of Star Trek: Prodigy
Either they're going to find Starfleet or Starfleet's going to find them! #StarTrekProdigy returns with new episodes October 27. pic.twitter.com/LzGTvKWOM5 October 8, 2022
The next episode of Star Trek: Prodigy is the mid-season premiere, titled "Asylum." There's no episode description yet, but we'll add one here as soon as it's available.
What’s the plot of Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Prodigy follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future.
The series starts off with the young aliens working in a scrap yard where they stumble upon an abandoned Starfleet ship. Though they know nothing about space travel, together they set off on an adventure that will introduce them to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
Star Trek: Prodigy , which will feature 20 episodes in its first season, split into two segments, was created by Dan and Kevin Hageman.
Who is in the Star Trek: Prodigy cast?
The main voice cast for Star Trek: Prodigy consists of Brett Gray as Dal, Ella Purnell as Gwyn, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Angus Imrie as Zero, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, John Noble as The Diviner, Jimmi Simpson as Drednok and Kate Mulgrew, reprising her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager , who appears in the series as a hologram on the ship.
IMDb lists a number of other actors expected to provide their voices to the series. This includes Jason Alexander, Jameela Jamil, Daveed Diggs and Robert Beltra, another Star Trek: Voyager alum reprising his role as Captain Chakotay.
When is the Star Trek: Prodigy release date?
Star Trek: Prodigy premiered on Paramount Plus on Oct. 28, 2021, releasing the first 10 episodes. The second half of the season premieres October 27, 2022.
We also know that there will be more of the animated series beyond that, as Paramount Plus has already renewed Star Trek: Prodigy for season 2 .
Is there a Star Trek: Prodigy trailer?
Here's the trailer for the midseason premiere of Star Trek: Prodigy.
Part of the Star Trek Day presentation back in September included the first official trailer for Star Trek: Prodigy . In it we get to briefly meet the teenage aliens that will comprise this makeshift crew and the beginning of their adventures. Watch the full trailer below.
How to watch Star Trek: Prodigy
Though Star Trek: Prodigy is produced in part by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, the series is a Paramount Plus original and therefore will play exclusively on the streaming service, which means you’ll need a subscription to watch.
In addition to Star Trek: Prodigy , a Paramount Plus subscription also gives you access to all of the other Star Trek series created for the streaming service, as well as the classic TV series that initially ran on TV.
Paramount Plus also provides access to thousands of other TV shows and movies, both classic and originals.

Listen up, Trekkies, we’ve got some prodigious news to share.
Star Trek : Prodigy , which was canceled by Paramount+ ahead of its second season premiere, has found a new home on Netflix. Season 1 will hit the streamer later this year, while the never-before-seen Season 2 will debut sometime in 2024.
Adds Kate Mulgrew, voice of Admiral Janeway, “I’ve always held that the Star Trek fan base is among the strongest and most intelligent in the world. They have shown their collective passion, and we’re happy to be able to celebrate Prodigy once again.”
When the show was originally canceled in June, co-executive producer Aaron J. Waltke told fans via X (formally Twitter) that the Prodigy team was “completing Season 2 on schedule and seeking a new home,” adding, “Everyone on the cast and crew loves Star Trek: Prodigy deeply.”
Per its official logline, the younger-skewing animated series “follows a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered — a first in the history of the Star Trek franchise — but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.”
Along with Mulgrew, Star Trek: Prodigy ‘s primary voice cast includes Brett Gray as Dal, Ella Purnell as Gwyn, Rylee Alazraqui as Rok-Tahk, Angus Imrie as Zero, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, John Noble as The Diviner and Jimmi Simpson as Drednok.
Recurring voices include Daveed Diggs as Commander Tysess, Jameela Jamil as Ensign Asencia, Jason Alexander as Doctor Noum, Robert Beltran as Captain Chakotay and Billy Campbell as Thadiun Okona.

+1 for Netflix
At first glance I thought that was an animated picture of Matt Gaetz.
Now I am not canceling Netflix.
Hmm… condiering it’s Netflix, it’s questionable if we’ll get anything beyond season 2. But I guess we should be happy for whatever we can get.
Yeah, I can’t imagine the deal would actually allow them to make more than what has already been produced. It’s weird enough that a Trek show will be airing on another network – Paramount has worked hard to collect them all on P+. But if it does well enough on Netflix, maybe Paramount will have second thoughts and buy it back.
Indeed. Even if it goes no further—which I presume will be the case—2 seasons is better than 1. 🖖
If the show meets expectations on Netflix they could order further seasons. Generally speaking Netflix won’t be picking the show up with the view two seasons and done. They’ll want more if there’s demand from their subscribers.
And generally aren’t they know for three seasons for most shows?
Their animated shows go on for longer usually. Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous had 5 seasons, and has a sequel series out next year, which will be at least two seasons.
Best news I’ve read all day!
YES! I confess I put off watching what looked like “kiddie Trek” for a long time… but I was pleasantly surprised by how it developed and its links to the franchise (particularly Voyager). Just in case anyone is still on the fence…
So Paramount+, which promised to be the home of all things Star Trek, unceremoniously dumped their own IP, is now sharing Star Trek with their much wider-reached arch-rival Netflix. The same Netflix, where Paramount spent money to buy back some international streaming rights of Star Trek when they were launching Paramount+ internationally as the home of all things Star Trek… Business nonsense aside, I’m so happy for all the creative teams who worked on Star Trek Prodigy! They didn’t deserve the poor treatment from Paramount, I’m glad they get a wider audience with Netflix.
lol. you know if not for netflix. we would not have most current star trek content. due to netflix was back end funding new shows .up till recently.
There was no new Trek during the time those shows were on Netflix. Discovery was the first new one since Enterprise, which pre-dated Netflix streaming. How did Netflix in anyway contribute to new Trek content prior to picking up Prodigy?
They aired all the treks and movies pre paramount/cbs plus, ds9 and voyager were part of netflix till a few years ago
ST Discovery was heavily funded by Netflix and Netflix had exclusive international right sand CBS all access or Paramount + had like North American rights
Awesome 😁 so glad Netflix picked it up. Paramount was stupid to cancel it seeing as they have the other Star Trek shows. Don’t have Netflix but I’ll get it once Season 2 drops!!!
When Prodigy started, there was a plan announced that the first run would be on Paramount+ (All Access then), and there would be a later second run on Nickelodeon.
The first 10 episodes did air on Nick.
Any word on whether this deal prevents a second run of the remaining episodes on Nick at some point?
Nick cancelled Prodigy as well. that was not only paramounts doing
Not this deal, but at the writeoff time it was stated the show wouldn’t be returning to Nickelodeon
So grateful to Netflix for this. I love this show. It’s my favorite of the new Star Trek shows (though I do enjoy them all to varying degrees). Hopefully it’s successful enough to get a 3rd season, but even if it’s not, I’m just happy we’re actually be able to see this season.
I wonder what this means for a home video release? I love having Star Trek Blu Rays on my shelf, but Netflix is known for being pretty stingy will allowing that.
Um first season already is out on dvd and I’ll likely rewatch the 1st half of season 1 as again one of the best episodes even if you were a non trek fan was episode 6 as it had an all star voice cast bringing the best of the best from all the previous Star Trek shows
hopefully the ending is tidy enough
This is great news-thank you Netflix! I always had a feeling that Star Trek Prodigy would find a new home I thought that it would land on Amazon Prime, but Netflix is just fine. I hope that Prodigy fans sign up for Netflix. It is important to support Prodigy so we can have a third season &, onward. I am looking forward to viewing Season 1 again and to Season 2 in 2024.
Still hoping Netflix do this for the final unaired season of snowpiercer!
Please tell me you know the difference between “formally” and “formerly”…

'Star Trek: Prodigy' Is Back for the Second Half of Season 1 — Details on the Episode Schedule and More
Oct. 27 2022, Published 5:41 p.m. ET
Space. The final frontier. Or in this case, it's the second half of Season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy , at least. The animated Paramount Plus series is finally back after a lengthy season hiatus.
This Star Trek spinoff follows the adventures of the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar, a haphazard bunch who had to learn how to work together in tandem in order to meet their desired destination — the Alpha Quadrant.
Now that Star Trek: Prodigy is back, what is the episode release schedule? Here's what to know about the new episodes.
What is the 'Star Trek: Prodigy' episode release schedule? And what else do we know about the new episodes?
New episodes of the second half of Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 drop Thursdays on Paramount Plus, starting on Oct. 27 with Episode 11. There are nine more episodes to go after that, for a total of 20 episodes .
If the show follows the one-episode-a-week release schedule until the Season 1 finale, that means fans will get one new episode a week until the very last day of 2022.
However, Paramount Plus could delay episode releases to account for holidays or to stretch out Star Trek: Prodigy's Season 1 episode release schedule all the way until January 2023. We'll just have to trust the crew to take us to the right destination!
New cast members for Star Trek: Prodigy were also announced during Star Trek Day 2022 (that's Sept. 8!).
So who will be joining the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar? Per the official Star Trek website, Billy Campbell will be reprising his Star Trek: The Next Generation role of Thadiun Okona for the second half of Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1.
Other new, enterprising cast members include Hamilton star Daveed Diggs as Commander Tysess, She-Hulk star Jameela Jamil as Ensign Ascencia, Jason Alexander as Doctor Noum, and Robert Beltran as Captain Chakotay.
So, will there be a second season of 'Star Trek: Prodigy,' or is this really the final frontier for the show?
We've got even more good news for Star Trek: Prodigy fans! The popular Paramount Plus series has already been renewed for a second season, which is currently in development.
However, there has been no officially confirmed release date yet for Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2. That makes sense, though, given that we still have quite a ways to go before the Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 finale.
Don't miss out on new episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy Thursdays on Paramount Plus.

Kate Mulgrew Credits Fans & Airplane Stunt With Saving Star Trek: Prodigy
- Fans saved Star Trek: Prodigy after Paramount+ cancellation by organizing a successful initiative.
- Kate Mulgrew, who plays Admiral Janeway, credits fans for their dedication in bringing back the series.
- #SaveStarTrekProdigy campaign even included a fundraiser to fly a banner over Netflix headquarters in LA.
Star Trek icon Kate Mulgrew credits Star Trek: Prodigy 's devoted fans for saving the beloved animated series. When Paramount+ canceled Star Trek: Prodigy in June 2023 and purged all 20 season 1 episodes from its streaming service just 3 days later, irate fans organized to find Prodigy a new home. The #SaveStarTrekProdigy initiative was a resounding success, as Netflix acquired the rights to Star Trek: Prodigy seasons 1 and 2, with the option for season 3.
At Galactic D&I Con in Philadelphia, Kate Mulgrew, who plays Admiral Kathryn Janeway and Hologram Janeway on Star Trek: Prodigy, recounted how fans held "a fundraiser" and rented a plane to fly a #SaveStarTrekProdigy banner over Los Angeles , specifically the headquarters of streaming services like Netflix. UK-based Star Trek fan Michelle Stokes (@megsmamma), who created the GoFundMe that raised $1,200 to rent the airplane, shared a video of Mulgrew giving fans credit for saving Star Trek: Prodigy on her X, Check it out below:
Here is an X post from Star Trek: Prodigy creators Kevin and Dan Hageman from last August thanking fans for the #SaveStarTrekProdigy airplane banner:

Star trek: prodigy season 2 is coming to netflix, fans are patiently waiting for prodigy season 2.
There is still no word on when Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will premiere on Netflix, although the next 20 episodes are slated to drop sometime in 2024. Star Trek: Prodigy is one of three Star Trek series on the schedule for 2024, along with the final seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks on Paramount+ . Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's performance is also crucial as the show needs high streaming numbers to guarantee Netflix greenlighting season 3.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 has already premiered in France on the French national channels, although fans are strongly encouraged to wait for Netflix's release and not pirate the new episodes or seek spoilers.
Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will complete the story that began with the series premiere, but it leaves the door open for more stories to come in season 3. Following the completion of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2's episodes in December 2023, Prodigy 's writers' room and offices closed. Star Trek: Prodigy creators Kevin and Dan Hageman, executive producer Aaron J. Waltke, and their creative team, as well as the cast led by Kate Mulgrew, are eager to mount production of Star Trek: Prodigy season 3, which Netflix will hopefully greenlight.

How to watch Star Trek: Prodigy online — release date and time and more
Janeway returns when we watch Star Trek: Prodigy
Star Trek: Prodigy's hour-long premiere episode debuts on Thursday (Oct. 28). We expect it to arrive at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT.
It's Janeway season once more when we watch Star Trek: Prodigy online. Yes, the Voyager captain is back, but this time in hologram form. The Paramount Plus series is about to make its debut, and it looks to introduce Star Trek to a much younger audience, as the cast is primarily composed of teens and children.
This new crew, which will helm the U.S.S. Protostar is apparently led by the 17-year old Dal (voiced by Brett Gray), who is of an unknown species. The rest of the cast includes Gwyn (voiced by Ella Purnell), a Vau N’Akat raised on a mining planet, Zero (voiced by Angus Imrie) is a non-corporeal genderless lifeform, the 8-year-old Brikar Rok-Tahk (voiced by Rylee Alazraqui), Murf (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), a hungry and adorable blob who cannot be destroyed and Jankom Pog (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas), a 16-year-old Tellarite.

In that cast, you've already recognized some notable names, including Baker (who's voiced characters in everything from Avatar: The Last Airbender to Star Wars : The Bad Batch to American Dad!) and Mantzoukas (co-star of The League and voice actor in Big Mouth and Invincible). And on top of that, yes, we've got Kate Mulgrew back in the Trek-world.
The series starts off in a cold, desolate way, but hope comes in the form of a giant ship, the U.S.S. Protostar, which is where hologram Janeway lives. Of course, this ship isn't their property, and the rightful owner of it looks like an angry felllow, and wants their vessel back.
Here's everything you need to watch Star Trek: Prodigy online. Plus, watch a sneak peek below:

The first ever animated, kid-focused version of Star Trek finally has a launch date: Star Trek: Prodigy will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, October 28 with a one-hour premiere episode, as just announced as part of ViacomCBS’ Star Trek Day celebration.
The global live stream centered around the 55th anniversary of the original Star Trek kicked off its section focusing on Prodigy by revealing the official trailer and key art for the new series, which is executive produced by Kevin and Dan Hageman. The clip was introduced by series star Kate Mulgrew, who will be (sort of) reprising her role as Kathryn Janeway for the show.
In the new trailer, we get to see a few young aliens in the far-off Delta Quadrant, on a planet where we’re told “hope has no purpose here.” Naturally, there is a little hope on tap, in the form of an abandoned Starfleet ship, which they commandeer in order to leave the planet. Over the course of the two minute trailer, we meet our main alien kids, as well as our first good look at the villains , The Diviner (voiced by John Noble), and Drednok (voiced by Jimmi Simpson). Though we don’t know why — yet — The Diviner wants the ship the kids have, for unknown purposes.
And though we only get to see Janeway in hologram form, the Hageman’s teased at a recent Television Critics Association (TCA) panel that the former Captain of the Voyager isn’t the only Star Trek character we’ll meet as the kids make their way from the Delta Quadrant, to the Alpha Quadrant — i.e., home to most of the Star Trek shows.
The series also stars Rylee Alazraqui, Brett Gray, Angus Imrie, Jason Mantzoukas, Ella Purnell and Dee Bradley Baker. In total, the first season of Prodigy will have 10 episodes, including the premiere, meaning it will most likely run until December 23, though the exact Season 1 finale date is TBA. You can check out the trailer above, and the official key art, below:

Admiral Janeway is about to take the former crew of the U.S.S. Protostar under her wing on a real Starfleet ship!

Commenting on the exclusive clip, the Hagemans shared, "Our talented and dedicated Star Trek: Prodigy team is hard at work on Season 2 and all of us can’t wait for the world to see it. It’s just too good.”

Protostar and now warrant Starfleet officers in training — Dal, Rok-Tak, Zero, Jankom Pog, and Murf — are reunited for an internship under the command of Admiral Janeway. A Rough Road To Prodigy Season 2
Getting to Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 has been a long road. In June 2023, Paramount+ unexpectedly cancelled the series. After many fan campaigns and social media protests, Netflix picked up the series in October 2023. When picking up the series, Netflix did not give the second season a confirmed release date. The streamer simply said to expect it in 2024, adding that it would consist of 20 episodes.
Today’s unexpected release of Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 is honestly bizarre. One wonders if this has to be a mistake or is intentional. Looking at France TV, it says Prodigy Season 2 is available from 22 March 2024 until 29 February 2028. It’s possible that this could be the result of a special licensing deal. Paramount+ has been selling the rights to its content library in recent months. An example of this is the constant shifting of Star Trek movies to different streaming providers. This is dependent on what region you are in, of course.
Regardless, Prodigy Season 2 is on French TV. It’s in French! Congratulations to the French-speaking Star Trek audience; this is a big win for you all. If you want to go forth and watch, you can do so! But remember that not everyone has access to these Star Trek episodes. Unless you understand the French language, you’ll have a hard time listening to these episodes. Somewhat reminds you of the old days. I mean, when Star Trek aired in the USA before anywhere else in the world for several months. Then again, that has actually happened in recent years, too.
Regardless, Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2 is an intergalactic adventure with all the time-honoured and beloved hallmarks of Trek . We are incredibly excited for its full release around the world!

Star trek 4 has to happen in 2026.
Star Trek 4 is still in development, but J.J. Abrams' sequel needs to make a 2026 release date to celebrate a huge Star Trek milestone.

- Star Trek 4 is in development with new screenwriter Steve Yockey.
- Star Trek: Strange New Worlds offers an opportunity to honor the 60-year milestone with Kirk and Spock on the USS Enterprise.
Star Trek 4 needs to be released in 2026 to properly celebrate Star Trek 's momentous 60th anniversary. Star Trek: The Original Series premiered on September 8, 1966, and the franchise is going stong going into its sixth decade. The J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek 4 is currently in active development with new writer Steve Yockey tackling script duties. Star Trek 4 has the opportunity to honor Star Trek 's 60th-anniversary milestone and continue the adventures of Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), and the beloved USS Enterprise crew in Star Trek 's alternate Kelvin Timeline.
In 1996, Star Trek celebrated its 30th anniversary with crossover episodes in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager . DS9 's “Trials and Tribble-ations” sent Captain Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks) and his crew back to the 23rd century to save Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) and the USS Enterprise. Voyager 's "Flashback" featured Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) interacting with Captain Sulu (George Takei) and Commander Janice Rand (Grace Lee Whitney). However, Star Trek ’s 40th anniversary passed without much fanfare, although Star Trek Beyond was released in 2016 to mark Star Trek' s 50th anniversary. Star Trek 4 must now seize the opportunity to release in 2026 to honor Star Trek 's 60th anniversary .

Despite persistent interest from fans and cast members, a movie continuation of the alternate Kelvin Timeline has been in development hell for almost a decade. Star Trek 4 offers a return of the Chris Pine-led USS Enterprise cast for what has been dubbed its “ final chapter .” While details remain unknown, the timing for Star Trek 4 is crucial. Ten years after the release of Star Trek Beyond , Star Trek 4 must embrace the 60th anniversary deadline to avoid missing a huge opportunity.
Star Trek evolved from a groundbreaking science fiction show into a cult phenomenon.
A 2026 movie release would make Star Trek 4 the centerpiece of Star Trek' s 60th anniversary celebrations . Aligning with other franchise festivities to blend innovation, continuity, and tradition would appeal to longtime fans and modern audiences and offer a unique chance to celebrate everything and everyone great about Star Trek . Celebrating 60 years since Star Trek began and evolved from a groundbreaking science fiction show into a pop culture phenomenon and multi-decade global movement, Star Trek 4 could unify the franchise's legacy with a modern generation and pave the way for a new era of Star Trek .
Star Trek On Paramount Plus Can Also Mark Star Trek’s 60th Anniversary
But a new star trek movie in theaters is a bigger draw for star trek's 60th anniversary.
Paramount+ positions itself as " the home of Star Trek ," but uncertainties loom over the future of Star Trek content on the platform, with shows like Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Lower Decks coming to an end. Multiple Star Trek series cancelations diminish Paramount+’s potential to celebrate Star Trek's 60th anniversary with a wide range of legacy characters through animation, archive footage, or live-action. In 2026, only two Star Trek shows are expected to be streaming on Paramount+: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Director Toby Haynes's Untitled Star Trek Origin Movie has been announced for a 2025 release.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is Paramount+'s best bet to honor Star Trek's 60th anniversary. Strange New Worlds is renewed for season 4 , which could potentially be released in 2026 following season 3's expected 2025 premiere. Since it also has Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) and Lt. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) aboard the Starship Enterprise, Strange New Worlds is Paramount+'s best opportunity to honor Star Trek's 60 years . However, the return of Captain Kirk, Spock, and the USS Enterprise to movie screens in a multiplex blockbuster like Star Trek 4 would be an even bigger event to capture mainstream audiences in 2026 and give Star Trek 's 60th anniversary the prestige it deserves.
