Terror on Tour (1980)

This is an updated version of a review that was originally published in Bleeding Skull! A 1980s Trash-Horror Odyssey .

The end credits just rolled on Terror on Tour . I think I have an STD.

When you’re on tour, baggies of cocaine strewn across various body parts are as common as autographed guitar picks. Just ask The Clowns. Portrayed by real-life band The Names (Rick Styles, Chip Greenman, Rich Pemberton, Dave Galuzzo—aka the best names on earth), The Clowns have amazing exploits while on tour. These adventures are well documented in the sewer-slasher known as Terror On Tour —even if the band isn’t actually on tour. But that’s okay. When we’ve got jabronis reciting their lines in a cloud of Xanax while impersonating KISS, there’s no room for complaints.

OR IS THERE?!

Accompanied by clown makeup, Dracula capes, and onstage gore theatrics, The Clowns are finally “making it” after years of “paying our dues.” They sound like basement dads covering Cheap Trick. The groupies love ‘em (“You’re better than The Beatles or The Kiss!”), the hipsters party with ‘em (John Wintergate and Kalassu from Boardinghouse show up for a food fight), and the promoters don’t get ‘em. Beneath the coke and makeout sessions, someone pretends to be a Clown and starts murdering fans after each show. Two drunk cops are on the case. A roadie may or may not be putting on Clown make-up to get laid. All of the shows take place at the same venue.

Contrary to the slime that oozes out of every frame, Terror On Tour isn’t a crotch-shredding, slasher-rock masterpiece. I wanted Heavy Metal Parking Lot meets Heavy Metal Massacre , but I fell asleep instead. That’s not surprising, as the movie was directed by Don Edmonds, the same person who also knocked me into zzz-town with the Ilsa films. Terror on Tour wallows in scumbag excess, but it’s never explicit. We see the cocaine and bloody noses. We don’t see the sex on the floor of a grimy bathroom or a backstage dressing room covered with entrails. The synth-blasts are always welcome, as are the brief sequences of The Clowns performing their atrocious songs. But small details can’t wash away the bigger problems. If I want cool synths plus a band performing shitty songs plus a good time, I’ll watch Rocktober Blood . Terror On Tour buries the occasional eerie visuals with static photography and a lack of enthusiasm on all fronts. It is what the people call a bummer.

Still, the existence of movies like this fascinate me to no end. I love the fact that someone preserved their dream of a rock and roll murder fantasy on film. I just wish my pee didn’t hurt so bad after watching it.

When your murder mystery slasher film is so poorly lit that the big reveal happens and you can't make out who that is.

When I make movies and need an actor on their mark and lit, I yell "Come to the light Carol Ann!" This is the first time I yelled that at someone else's movie.

A group of clowns, who also perform as a band called The Clowns while dressed like clowns, hangs out chatting and hooking up with groupies who think they're "better than The Beatles or The Kiss" in between a string of gigs at the same venue. Since they spend so much time bringing women to their uber-sketchy "secret blood room", it's not much of a surprise when women start turning up dead. I like when slashers feel like a hangout movie in between the kills and this fits the bill to certain degree, except these characters aren't all that interesting. Instead, there's plenty of nudity, a few okay stabbings and an early role for the Soup Nazi.

Day 9. Clowns.

A rock band painted in manic clown makeup have the gimmick of being killers on stage. Mannequins are beheaded, dancing girls are fake stabbed, and it makes the crowds go wild.

In the frenzy there's also a killer dressed up just like the band killing groupie's. Who is it?, oh the mystery.

The acting is ropey, there's some sleaze, and you do work out the killer pretty quickly. I wouldn't recommend this, but what I would recommend is go and listen to The Names they are a great band.

As for the movie itself, um, probably not worth a watch for most people. Hey, this Joker movie sucks! No Oscar for you! (Yes, the Soup Nazi is in this.)

It is my sad duty to report that this movie about a KISS ripoff band and a guy in clown makeup killing prostitutes is one of the boringest things I've ever seen. It's filmed in Local-Skating-Rink-Commercial Vision and paced like an elephant. An endless parade of dark ugly shots of dark ugly places. Damn, I wish this thing had even half the colour and style and joie de vivre of that POSTER! Look at that, it's beautiful! While it’s not a great movie by any means, if you cherish the early days of the video revolution and like your slasher movies sleazy, low budget and without morals, then Terror on Tour should satisfy your need for an hour and a half or so. There’s a lot that could have been done better with it, but for what it is and the time it was made, it’s an obscure slasher that you should watch at least once.

Daily Horror Hunt #23 – May 2020 Day 18. It's Rocktober in May! Watch a like totally rockin' horror.

Most of this movie is painful to get through. Mostly dudes partying or sitting around talking. Even the kills have nothing going for them. The final 15 minutes saves it a bit though when the undercover prostitute is caught in a game of cat and mouse with Bozo the Killer while the band is playing live on the stage above. The movie actually managed to surprise me at one point. Still not really worth going out of your way to watch, unless you want to see a lot of nudity. It's shocking how bland most of this movie is.

You know how you know you just love a movie right down to its core? When you spend the first half an hour not being able to differentiate between characters and not knowing who anyone is at any given moment and it didn't matter because everything about the movie just spoke to me on a level I really wasn't expecting. It's a rock & roll slasher movie about a band full of clownfaced doofuses who exist somewhere on the spectrum between KISS and Alice Cooper and the horror which ensues around them.

Daily Horror Scavenger Hunt 1 - July 2018

Today we had to watch a movie that fused the worlds of heavy metal and horror movies! Terror on Tour is about a rock band (Kiss) and women of the night being killed at every tour stop. I know this wasn't actually Kiss but it was Kiss. I mean, the makeup and 1980 screams Kiss. The music while not exactly metal was certainly late 70s hard rock in the fashion of Kiss.

Ugh... this movie you guys! It was not very good. That might be overselling it to be honest, but the kills were okay which earned a star. The motivation of the killer was cliched, to say the least. I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone but I can't really say to avoid it either.

A hard-rock horror that has some good ideas and better music but isn't a very good movie. It's a murky movie, is what it is. The cinematography is all dark and grimy and all takes place in backstage areas that are poorly lit. It also isn't paced well. But the basic premise, of a KISS-like band giving a concert while a maniac goes around dressed like them and murdering groupies, is solid. The movie just doesn't know what to do with it. It's also very difficult to differentiate the different characters, even when they're out of makeup, because they're all so similar in look and personality. But I did enjoy the kind of laid-back vibe of the whole thing, like just hangin' with the band. It's a hard movie to recommend, but I did get at least something out of it. It was worth seeing, if only for its unreached potential.

Terror may not be the right term for what's going on here. Neither is on Tour , for that matter, but I'm willing to let that slide.

The Clowns, southwestern Ohio's 18th most popular KISS-inspired musical act, just got a song on the charts and things are looking up for band members Fred, Ralph, Henry and Cherry. They've given up their poppy roots and gone all in for mannequin decapitations, monochromatic facial features and theatrical bloodletting on-stage, and it's worked...more or less. But wouldn't you know it? Somebody's started running around, made-up like one of the band members and started killing women with a huge blade.

OMG, a mystery.

 We are travelling back in time ladies and gentlemen to the 1980’s, not the entire decade mind you just the year and what a strange time it was. We are transported to a club that a band called The Clowns calls home sweet home. The Clowns are a wonderful example of a band from this era, big hair, makeup and a hyper violent stage show where women are literally torn apart! The band of course become suspects after several women are murdered after one of The Clowns more extreme shows, it doesn’t help of course that our killer sports the exact same wardrobe as a member of the band…..right down to the afro wig!

“They get rowd up…..but no real violence!”

I love indie horror from this time period; it contains a certain kind of trashiness that has yet to be equaled in our beloved genre. Don Edmonds’s 1980 treat Terror on Tour is a great glimpse into those days of yesteryear.

Terror on Tour mainly focuses around a band that is known as The Clowns. The actors who play the band are actually in a real band together known as “The Names” and do have original songs on the soundtrack and during the film you as the viewer are treated to not one or two….but three original songs by the band….all I believed lip synched! It isn’t the musical style of the band (which if you are curious is very bubblegum punk/metal that was popular at the time….think post KISS but pre Poison) isn’t really the main reason to see The Clowns however….it’s the bands stage show. During performances the band stab females that dance on stage with them they also decapitate and dismember female mannequins on stage with them. After their first performance the singer seems to rip the arm off of a struggling young woman then tosses it into the crowd.

The band also wear a uniform on stage (each member looks identical) they are all wearing these Freddy Mercury meets Batman tights. They also all sport the same KISS like makeup job, well only on half of their faces since the other half is hidden behind a strange Phantom of the Opera style mask. To top it all off each member also sports an Afro wig…..yes I am being serious. I just spent that whole time telling you about the band because that is pretty much what the film focuses on.

It is only after we get to watch the band perform live and meet their stage crew which consist of a nice guy manager, a drug addict and a shy kid who dresses up like a member of the band so that he can pick up chicks at the after party that we are finally given a plot device. A girl who is selling drugs to the drug addict crew member is stabbed to death by a person who is dressed up just like a member of The Clowns. The killer than proceeds to attend the bands after show party and their concert on the next day…..needless to say the local police have quite a few questions for them.

Terror on Tour is a great example of trash cinema from this era. The members of The Names really do think they are going to become big stars after the film and all of their wet dreams are played out in the script so yes the cast is really feeling this movie and it pays off big. There are some funny moments placed throughout the film however some of the jokes fall rather flat and at some points do become rather obnoxious.

• This is the first book since Process of Elimination from the '88 series where Nancy Drew joins up with Frank and Joe Hardy. However, because this series is not connected to the SuperMystery'88 series, Nancy and the Hardys are not "old friends"; in fact, in the 2007 Super Mysteries, they have never met before the events of the first book Terror on Tour, meeting for the first time in the book. But one odd thing is that Simon & Schuster has tried to connect both the Nancy Drew Girl Detective series and the Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers series back to their Original/Digest series, so all three characters should remember the events of the stories that occurred during Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Super Sleuths! 1 , Super Sleuths! 2 and Campfire Stories .

A rock band called "The Clowns" comes under suspicion of murder when several prostitutes are killed by individuals made up like members of the band.

Someone starts murdering people and a rock band called The Clowns (a KISS rip off) are under suspicion in "Terror On Tour". The film begins with a girl murdered right after the band performs on stage. At first I thought the main suspect was one of the band members who really enjoyed putting on the makeup, there was a weird scene in the band's dressing room with him explaining that it's easier for him to talk to girls with it on... But I don't know, the film lost focus and I didn't know what was going on half the time. In between all of the scenes with the band, we get some shots which show the rock and roll lifestyle (sex, drugs, alcohol, etc). No reason to have them in there. Anyways, it soon becomes apparent throughout all of the craziness that the killer is someone dressing up like the other band members. More murders take place during the concerts, and the cops begin investigating. All of this leads up to a silly conclusion.

This has to be the most confusing slasher films I've ever seen. It was so all over the place and never had focus, so much to the point that I didn't what was going on. Yes I got that people were getting killed, but was it the band members doing it or people dressing up like the band... I felt like I was supposed to know who the killer was, but because there were so many forgettable characters that looked alike AND the horrible quality on the VHS, I didn't know who was who for 90% of the film. Most of the film follows the same pattern it sets. A girl takes her clothes off in one of the room's at the concert thinking she'll sleep with one of the band members, the killer comes in and stabs her, cut to the next pointless scene. Then it happens again, and again. There is no real scares or anything that makes you really jump, it's just one sleazy killing after the other. There is one chase scene near the end that was just okay, but wasn't great.

So many problems with this lackluster slasher. The dialogue is just awful and most of the time pointless, perhaps the most meaningless dialogue ever in a movie. I'd rather they just had no lines at all and just ran the film without it. The acting is terrible, in some scenes the actors shout their lines (when they shouldn't) or say the lines strangely making it awkward and out of place. And don't get me started on the ending and the killers' motive. Terror on Tour is an awful film with no direction and no focus. It gets two stars for a handful of creepy moments with the killer in full makeup AND a decent chase scene, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

It took four cowboys, three dogs and a pack of dog chow to finally wrangle two feral cows who had been on the lam in Oklahoma for two years.

The crew chased the Black Angus cattle across 19 miles over two hours last week until the cows grew tired enough to be roped in and carried off to safety.

The capture put an end to the pair’s two-year reign of terror on Brenda Stapleton’s Tulsa County property, which they seemingly called home after surviving a truck collision on a nearby road in 2022.

“They’re beautiful. They just can’t be in our yard,” Stapleton told 2 News.

The giant cows turned up on Stapleton’s property in 2022, shortly after a cattle trailer overturned on I-244, freeing 90 cows.

While most were captured in the hours after the accident, the two black beauties made themselves comfortable in Stapleton’s yard, frequently munching on her grass and leaving large cow patties in their wake.

The mischievous duo is also known to creep up near her windows and has even unplugged her septic tank on numerous occasions, which forces waste to flow back into the home.

“That’s all that it could have been,” she explained. “There is tall grass right by there. You could tell where they had been pulling grass, and I guess they caught the cord and pulled it.”

Other than the nuisance, Stapleton stressed they posed a safety issue — the cows could get hit by a passing motorist unable to discern their dark coat in the night.

The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office said have repeatedly tried to shoo the beasts away but exhausted their efforts.

Instead, they suggested Stapleton hire professional cowboys, which only further enraged the homeowner: “Who has money for that? It shouldn’t be my responsibility.”

Fortunately, a crew of wrangling hobbyists came to her rescue last week after watching her plead her case in an interview with 2 News the week prior.

Bill Inhofe said he was “shocked” that the cows were still wreaking havoc in the area — his business, Sooner Emergency Services, had worked the 2022 wreck and he assumed the cows that weren’t recaptured had died in the wild.

That’s when he and three other cowboys, along with three dogs, set out to fix Stapleton’s problem.

They left out dog feed for the cows before setting the canines to track the scent.

“When they find the cows, the dogs are yelping, so the cowboys can look on their phone and know right where that cow is,” Inhofe explained.

“They break it out of the brush, throw a rope on it and get it in the trailer.”

Although she spent two years trying to rid herself of the cattle, she said she’ll miss seeing them grazing in her community.

“I’m sad to see them go,” she said. “I got used to talking to them and trying to befriend them. I’m disappointed I didn’t get to.”

Inhofe has taken the cows to his ranch, where he plans on calming them down until they readjust to captivity after their two years of freedom. Then, he said he would most likely sell them.
