Jack Reacher is a 2012 adaptation of the famous book series, but where can the Tom Cruise movie be found online and is it on Netflix, Hulu or Prime?

Where can Jack Reacher be found online and is it available on platforms like Netflix, Hulu or Prime? Tom Cruise seems to have found his creative soulmate in writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. The pair first worked together on 2008 war drama Valkyrie , and McQuarrie was later brought onboard Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol to fix numerous story problems that crept up during filming. The pair have essentially been inseparable ever since, which includes McQuarrie working on the screenplays for Live Die Repeat , 2017's  The Mummy and the forthcoming sequel Top Gun: Maverick .

Tom Cruise later handed over the keys to his most famous franchise to his frequent collaborator with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation , which McQuarrie directed. Cruise also broke the series rule of bringing on a new filmmaker for each entry by bringing McQuarrie back for Mission: Impossible - Fallout . This turned out to be a very wise choice as this sixth movie became the highest-grossing to date, in addition to receiving great reviews. The duo will unite once again for  Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 .

Their first collaboration with Christopher McQuarrie as director was on  Jack Reacher , however. This was an adaptation of Lee Child's thriller novel One Shot , which was actually the ninth to feature the author's iconic character. There was famously a backlash towards the casting of Cruise in the title role since the Reacher described in the books is way closer to Dolph Lundgren in size and appearance; Childs deflected this critique at the time but now seems to agree with it. For those looking to check out 2012's Jack Reacher , the film is currently available to stream, rent or buy in the U.S.

Hulu subscribers are in luck, as they now boast Jack Reacher as part of their line-up. Hulu isn't the only U.S. option though, as the recently debuted Paramount+ also currently streams Jack Reacher . The film can also be found on the Epix streaming service, and can be rented from $2.99 or purchased from $7.99 on Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Vudu or Redbox. For anyone curious enough to check out the inferior 2016 sequel Jack Reacher: Never Go Back - which was directed by Edward Zwick instead of Christopher McQuarrie - that film isn't currently available on any streaming services but can be rented or purchased from the same services applicable to its predecessor, and for the same price.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back   was both a critical and commercial letdown, meaning Cruise won't be returning for a third movie. Instead, Jack Reacher is being rebooted for a series at Amazon, with Alan Ritchson taking over the lead role. Ritchson plays Hank Hall/Hawk on the DC show Titans , and also played Raphael in the recent live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. Ritchson stands 6'2", and is much closer to Reacher's appearance in Childs' books, which will likely please fans of the franchise.

He doesn't have money, but what he does have is a very particular set of skills--skills he has acquired over a very long career.

If your father is alive, chances are he likes Jack Reacher . Reacher is the stereotypical "man’s man". He’s intelligent, decisive, and vigilant–oh, and he’s a trained killer. Reacher plays the mysterious stranger, roaming around the nation and running into wrongs only he can right. The behemoth military veteran–written as a six-and-a-half-foot hunk of muscle–with a strong moral center was surprisingly written as a subversion of trends in the written crime thriller genre at the time. Jack Reacher started as a Lee Child novel that spun into a series that numbers closer to 30 than 20 volumes now. The written character mirrors the invincible action hero embodied classically by actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone , and yet when he made his feature debut, he was played by Tom Cruise . Cruise, for lack of a better word, freaking killed it as the no-nonsense tough guy in both films– Jack Reacher and Jack Reacher : Never go Back –but since then the franchise has remained silent.

Six years later and Reacher is resurrected for a television series, this time starring Alan Ritchson ( Titans ). Ritchson definitely fits the look as a late 30-something beefcake himself. Fans dissatisfied with Cruise’s casting last decade finally have their hulking blonde hero, as Ritchson has starred as multiple superheroes and even a ninja turtle. When speaking with Empire , Ritchson talked about leaning into his size for the role saying:

Barefoot, I’m six [foot] three and a half-ish. When I put the boots on, I’m six [foot] five. And we decided we’re gonna come in at 235lbs. I walk around at 205, so I wanted to put on some weight–and it shows on screen. I look like an ox!

In a conversation with the Toronto Sun , author Lee Child heaped praise upon Ritchson saying, “It was all about the very first impression…Immediately, he nailed it.” He continued, “If you loved Reacher [the book series], Alan [Ritchson] nails it, and he just gets better and better.”

It's quite clear from the 2-minute clip that Reacher is going all-in on the character's almost-superhuman physical capabilities but playing it mostly for comedic effect. How Long is the First Season of Reacher?

Reacher debuts with an eight-episode story arc adapting Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel, The Killing Floor . In The Killing Floor , Jack Reacher is framed for murder, and he vengefully seeks out those who sought to imprison him. It’s essentially the introductory story of the Reacher mythos, showing how Jack becomes the man we know and love. Additionally, that makes this both the perfect jumping-on point for new fans and a return to the classics for old ones. Each episode runs about an hour-long according to early reviews, so expect more Reacher in more ways than one. The first eight episodes are as follows:

Critical Reception

Early reviews of Reacher (including our own ) have been more or less positive, and it's been described as a faithful-if-flawed adaptation of Lee Child’s knight errant. Ritchson is as intimidating as he is wryly comedic as Reacher, and the supporting cast, including Malcolm Goodwin ( American Gangster ), Willa Fitzgerald ( Little Women ), and Hugh Thompson ( Sea of Love ) bring depth and warmth to the series. The show currently averages 82% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reacher was developed for TV by Nick Santora, a writer, director, and producer known for his work on the shows Prison Break and Scorpion . As one of the writers behind 2008’s Punisher : War Zone , Santora is no stranger to darkly comedic tales of fury and justice. The new TV show released on Amazon Prime Video in February 2022, so you can watch it right now.

Tom Cruise may very well be the one man left in Hollywood who commands the top spot in the box office opening weekend. Unfortunately, Jack Reacher didn't reach that feat, nor did it probably deserve to. But it's far from a weak spot in Cruise' long history of brilliant action fun. Jack Reacher stars several Oscar caliber actors including Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, Robert Duvall, and Werner Herzog. All of which provide fine performances. But if we are being honest, Cruise is having by far the most fun here. Reacher is a slightly more brutal and definitely cockier version of his now classic, Ethan Hunt character from M:I. Now over 50-years old, I'm glad he still loves delivering those cheesy punch lines as much as he is doing insane stunts. The film itself definitely takes itself a little bit more serious, however, which is where it runs into a few problems. Although I think Christopher McQuarrie's directorial effort for M:I 5 was impeccable, he has trouble balancing the tone and pace of this particular film. At times, it claims itself to be a serious and even tragic espionage thriller. But the final 30 minutes completely forget about the grounded tone and let Cruise loose on one of his bone-crushing Mission Impossible action sprees. I just would have liked a bit more of a happy medium between the two. With that said, the brilliance of the film lies within all of its espionage and mysterious elements. Way before Cruise throws a single punch or shoots any bullets, I was sucked into the mystery the opening presents. The opening segment, along with two other extended sequences, are impressively done with absolutely no dialogue, yet you understand exactly what's going on. McQuarrie's directing talent really shines there. Much of the rest of the film's fun comes from some expectedly great supporting performances from Duvall and Herzog. Both have minimal screen time but they nonetheless steal every scene they are in. There's without question fun to be had with their roles and the film itself, but I can't help but think some more time in the writer's room could have helped polish the film a little. There weren't any particular moments in the film I disliked, but the cohesiveness just wasn't present. +Cruise at his best +Fun supporting performances +Eerie tone in the first half -Too action heavy towards the end -Tonal issues 7.6/10

The new Three Stooges reboot has more sniper rifles than I remember the original series having.

It features a handfull of slick action scenes and an initially engaging plot, but Jack Reacher is ultimately little more than a disposable Cruise-headed thriller that's outclassed by many of its genre brethren.

Cruise doing his usual role of bad-ass. Enjoyable.

The investigation quickly zeroes in on a single possible suspect, a former military sniper, who is taken into custody without delay. The questioning of the individual results in one statement: Get Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise).

Reacher, a mysterious former Army investigator, is convinced that the authorities have the correct suspect, but he still agrees to work with the sniper’s defense attorney (Rosamund Pike). However, the more Reacher investigates the situation, the less black and white it seems to be.

2. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016)

Jack Reacher returns to enforce his bold brand of justice in the action-packed sequel based on the 2013 novel Never Go Back by Lee Child.

In the films, Jack Reacher, a former soldier and drifter, completes his mission to dismantle a human trafficking organization, he travels to Washington, DC, to meet with his liaison, Major Susan Turner, for dinner. But instead, he runs into her replacement, Colonel Sam Morgan, who tells him that Major Turner has been arrested on espionage charges.

Jack consults with Colonel Bob Moorcroft, her seasoned attorney, who reveals that Major Turner is also under suspicion for the deaths of two American servicemen in Afghanistan. In addition, he informs Jack that a woman has filed a lawsuit against him, claiming that he is the father of her fifteen-year-old daughter, Samantha.

Jack is thrown in jail after being falsely accused of murdering Moorcroft. He realizes that he and Turner are both in the crosshairs of two assassins and that they have been set up. But he comes to her aid, and they make their escape. It doesn’t take long before they figure out that army personnel and a powerful government contractor/arms dealer are involved in a plot.

Additionally, Jack finds out that Samantha is in danger, and he and Turner end up saving her. While they investigate the source of the conspiracy, they decide to keep her safe from the assassin who is after them. What or who can we put our faith in?
