For those truly epic, once-in-a-lifetime destinations, you want to leave your itinerary to the experts. Whether your dream is to see the Big Five on an African Safari, trek tall mountains, explore European cities, or something even wilder, a group tour is the easiest way to do it.

However, picking the wrong group tour company is the quickest way to ruin your trip. Make sure you choose a tour company that aligns with your goals and travel styles. Do you want an intimate group tour or do you prefer to make lots of new friends in a big group? Does the price line up with what you like (luxury vs. budget)? Is the itinerary going to all the places you want to see?

We’ve done the research and found the very best group travel tour companies for 2023 for every type of traveler.

Best Overall Group Travel: Exodus Travels

Images of nature around the mountains and lakes of Slovenia as seen on the Exodus Travels' Lakes and Mountains of Slovenia walking tour

With trips on every continent, Exodus Travels covers anywhere on this planet that you could possibly want to go, from popular destinations like the Amalfi Coast to well off-the-beaten path adventures like Tajikistan. This award-winning group travel company boasts thousands of repeat customers who sign up for trips year after year (97% of past participants would recommend Exodus Travels to a friend).

These small group tours operate with only around 12-16 people, and always feature experienced local leaders who can give you a unique insight into your destination. Exodus Travels caters to any type of travel style, including trips broken down by type of activity (think walking, cycling, multi-adventure, winter, or cultural) as well as type of traveler (family, age group, etc.). There are curated collections (coastal, “away from it all”, European wilderness, and trips of a lifetime) to inspire you, as well as self-guided options for when you want all the benefits of a group tour planner without the actual group. Looking for that special safari? Exodus Travels just partners with the African Wildlife Foundation to create carefully curated luxury adventures that go above and beyond the standard safari.

Exodus Travels tours work for almost any budget, with options that range from affordable to premium.

Top Trip: Explore under-the-radar Europe by foot on Exodus Travels’ Lakes & Mountains of Slovenia walking tour .

Best Adventure Group Travel: World Expeditions

Groups of hikers walking and camping around the mountains of Kilimanjaro with World Expeditions

World Expeditions has been taking adventurous travelers to remote locations all over the world ever since its first group trek through Nepal in 1975. Today, World Expeditions offers active itineraries on every continent. Intrepid travelers can opt for trips themed around mountaineering, rafting, cycling, hiking, and more.

World Expeditions aims to leave communities and places where they operate tours better than they found them. Trips are created using the company’s Thoughtful Travel Charter as a guideline, which emphasizes respect for the environment, sustainability, having a positive impact on local communities, protecting wildlife, and more.

World Expeditions’ trips are capped at just 16 people to provide a good experience for participants, and there are no single supplements for solo travelers willing to share a room with someone of the same gender.

Top Trip: Summit Africa’s tallest mountain on a fully-supported trek up Kilimanjaro on World Expeditions’ eight day trip up the beautiful Lemosho Route .

Best Budget Group Travel: G Adventures

People visiting famous sites around China with the G Adventures' China Express group travel tour

For travelers on a budget, G Adventures offers cheap group tours that make dream destinations accessible to nearly anyone. (Think: sailing the Galapagos for just $1,124 , criss-crossing India’s Golden Triangle for $559 , or spending 8 days in Bali for less than $800.)

G Adventures is one of the best tour companies for solo travelers as well, as most trips don’t have a single-supplement. You can choose to share a room with another G Adventures solo traveler, or pay extra to have your own space.

G Adventures keeps costs down by opting for cheaper hotels and local meals, and making certain activities optional (for an additional cost). Pick your travel style—options range from “basic” to more luxe tours run in partnership with National Geographic. Family tours, local living tours (featuring homestays), and wellness-focused tours are also available.

Top Trip: G Adventures’ China Express trip is a great way to see the highlights of China if you’re short on both time and budget.

the tour itself was amazing. The national parks do not disappoint. The travel accomodations were very cramped and uncomfortable. I am only 5 foot tall and I was cramped in this 14 passenger van. Food opportunities were limited.
Fantastic experience - efficient use of time, great itinerary. Well-informed and interesting guide who is also just a great person.

Well planned tour with lots of amazing sights along the way, our guide Haley was excellent and knowledgable, I will definitely recommend this tour to others!
Bindlestiff Tours made our Death Valley tour from Las Vegas absolutely fantastic! From beginning to end, it was pure magic. Joel, our guide, was amazing – his stories really made the trip special. Joel's extraordinary storytelling prowess and profound insights truly enriched our journey, seamlessly blending entertainment with education. It was a perfect balance that made the experience even more memorable. The desert scenery was breathtaking, and having lunch and water provided was a nice touch. Big thanks to Bindlestiff Tours for an awesome adventure!

We were fortunate to have Claire Kredens as our driver guide. She is a gifted leader and could cope with ant situation. Such a tour is useful to learn which cities you might like to re-visit because our time in each is very short. Four and five hour drives every other day is exhausting and maybe the number of places visited could be edited downward. On the whole, I enjoyed the trip altho the age range 15-99 is unwise. 15-80 would be much more realistic.
My son and I had a great hiking adventure on the Sedona tour! The scenery was stunning, the hikes were fun! Tolman was an excellent guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area, he had great hiking tips, and he picked some enjoyable challenging hikes for us! He was also an excellent cook! He prepared us some great meals! His positive outlook on everything helped the group of strangers on the trek quickly bond which led us all to have a great hiking experience!

1. The bus driver, did an excellent job. 2. We could of used a better bus with a bathroom 3. The tour guides were good, they were very informative about our activities 4. The motels chosen were ver ckean 5. The length of time, was right for the amount of days 6. The travel packet i received needed clearer instructions, the hotel staff were not familiar with this tour operator. nor were they able to help me. 7. The security guard berween the luxor and the excalibur srated "the bus location and pick up tours:, was the place to be. 8. I was in the wrong location, after talking to your customer service, which at first she was hesitating to help me. She finslly was sble to contact me with Patrivia. Whom did not hesitate to contact me via text. Aand pick me up! Patricia's excellent customer service. Changed the entire scenario., and made it possible for me to join this wonderful 3 day tour of sightseeing. Photography. And hiking.
While the Niagara full trip was well-organized and enjoyable, I must express some disappointment with the Washington portion of our journey. During our time in Washington, we felt that our itinerary did not allow us to explore the city's attractions as much as we would have liked. Spending a significant amount of time at the cemetery felt like a missed opportunity to experience the vibrant culture and history of Washington. In future trips, I suggest considering a more balanced itinerary that allows for ample time to explore the various attractions and landmarks that each destination has to offer.

Excellent tour of the Mighty 5 in Utah. Our guide Robin was knowledgeable and accommodating throughout the tour. Just enough time was allocated for hiking the trails, viewing the sites in the distance and even visiting the Visitor Centers in each park. Hotel/motel accommodations were good and chosen for access to restaurants. Lunch stops with corresponding places to eat were well planned and the food and service was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Just couldn’t have been better. Extremely professional guides Robin and Sarah were highly knowledgable, friendly and organised. Accomodation was excellent in every location (most hotels even had hot tubs and pools!) and the food options were always good. Lovely comfortable Mercedes minibus. Highly recommended to everyone - would do another tour with South West Adventure Tours in a heartbeat.

Trafalgar

Excellent. Great guide, driver, weather, hotels, food. Great itenirary. Love love this trip.
Optional excursions were reasonably priced. Suggest you put together other places in each city as a walking guide or short taxi or uber ride. Example access to close by museums open late and could walk to from hotel. Free time activities and what they are and where located is helpful.tour guide can offer to accompany a group interested to explore more during free leisure tome.Provide more detail info about the logistics of site visits. Niagara falls..suggest more water proof gear clothing and shoe types etc. Terrain to expect when visiting certain sites and possible alternatives.climbing and how difficult-easy or more strenuous or advanced climbing activity. Overall, small groups so much better than filling up bus. Thank you for giving single travelers their own bus space. Would love to watch more travel videos on longer driving distances.

Although the tour was very expensive- over $2000 for 3 days is over the top- it wss a great experience, saw lots of wildlife and the guide was outstanding
What an amazing experience this was; from the greeting and pick up by our guide/driver, to the phenomenal sights and the historical references that accompanied them! I am so pleased. This was an exceptionally planned tour that successfully met all of my needs. I would not change a thing and look forward to future adventures with them.

My first experience with an organized tour like this. Expense alone will limit future trips. Much more walking than my wife was prepared for. This alone reduced her enjoyment. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough with his planning and execution. Andrew has a fun personality and very personable. One item that disappointed me was the shuttle from airport to resort at both ends of the
Insights Tours are always amazing and this one was no exception. Nice balance of free time to relax and experience Hawaii on your own with visits to places on the islands to experience the culture. Learned a lot of Hawaii’s history throughout our visit. Overall a lovely experience and would highly recommend if you want to visit Hawaii and learn more about the islands.

Good time with lots of riding in the van going to interesting places
We had a wonderful time. The tour was well planned and well managed. The CEO was excellent ..good driver, good communicator, had good knowledge of the local attractions and made great recommendations for restaurants. The group we were with was also a very pleasant group which made the experience that much more enjoyable. That said, would have loved to see the accommodations updated.. most except the Denali cabins were old and "weathered".

Globus

I was skeptical of a group tour, particularly by coach. The experienced guide, Jason, along with driver Shauna, changed my view completely.

Infinite Adventures

Infinite Adventures

It was my first group trip and also my first camping trip. I have to say it was one of the best trips I've been on. It was an adventure! We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights at Remote Camp. Tory and Dave took care of everything and made sure everyone had a great time. No matter what problem you had, they always helped each other! Dave cooked delicious food, we had marshmallows by the fire in the evening and it felt like family. It's a great tour and I can only recommend it to anyone! It certainly wasn't my last tour with Infinite Adventure! Many thanks to Tory, Dave and Natalie (who you could ask any question you wanted to know beforehand) for this unforgettable time! :)
Jump on the bus with Infinite Adventures for a magnificent Alaskan expedition! Dave and Tory are excellent guides and will keep you informed about the areas you visit and give expert advice. I found this to be a truly joyful experience!

The Coyote Trip

The Coyote Trip

  • Good - 11 reviews for USA tours
This trip was run like a school trip, we were told that we had to stick to the schedule rigidly even though I asked several times to visit a different museum/shop. Free time was limited and it seemed like the guide had specific ideas of what he wanted to do and see. Our guide also left us on a subway in New York to get home close to midnight and then we had issues getting checked into the hostel. FYI most tour guides make sure their group gets to the hotel safely and without hassle. Waste of time and money.
From a speedboat to the Statue of Liberty to fireworks on 4th July in Washington to hiking to Yosemite Falls, this trip showcased the very best the USA has to offer. I went on the 21 day Full Cyote trip from New York to San Francisco with my brother. With such a packed itinerary of included activities, it offered great value for money. The guides in every region we visited were excellent. A particular shout out to Ryan, who added in extra stops and experiences based on the group's interests. Other highlights included the Grand Canyon, Washington's museums, whale watching in Boston, cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and sunset in Griffeths Park. I met a great group of people on the trip, and I wouldn't hesitate to book with the Cyote Trip again.

The tour had a few bumps. It would have been better if there were some included meals. There was no information about some of the excursions such as where the island tour stopped.

We have chosen the tour specifically because it was in German and also in other languages shown. Also on our voucher was again confirmed the tour with professional, German-speaking tour guide. Unfortunately, the tour guides did not speak German. We were able to help ourselves a bit with the translation app but we also missed a lot of information. We are very disappointed about this and expect compensation. The tour guides have tried and were very nice also the tour was very nice.

Beach (San Diego, CA, Newport, RI, Virginia Beach, VA)

Group travel of any kind is more fun at the beach! There's something for everyone — swimming, snorkeling, going on day trips, walking on the sand at sunrise or sunset, or kicking back with a frosted drink on a beach towel. How do palm trees and surf, margaritas on the rocks, and mariachi music sound to you? Check out San Diego, California, with its perpetually balmy climate and 70 miles of beaches. Explore the funky hamlet of Ocean Beach, with its surfers and fun shops, or just a jicama's toss away is La Jolla, where you can end the day watching an amazing sunset while you feast on sweet and flaky fish tacos.

If you're on the east coast, Virginia Beach, Virginia is a popular resort destination with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels and restaurants along its oceanfront. Engage in water sports, world-class golf, or stroll along the boardwalk. For the more adventurous in your group, try a surf lesson; if there are several surf enthusiasts, ask if there is a group discount. Or take your group to a classic maritime city — Newport, Rhode Island - for a huge variety of water-based recreational activities. Newport is the largest city on Aquidneck Island in Narragansett Bay. The island is home to many beautiful beaches. First Beach is Newport's largest public beach, while Second Beach in neighboring Middletown is a great beach for waves. Sail, kayak, windsurf, and more in this historic town.

Cruise (Caribbean)

To get the most out of group travel, go with friends and family on a cruise to the Caribbean. Cruises began as an outgrowth of trans-Atlantic travel, but it's now often a destination in and of itself. There's great food on cruise ships and more to do than just play a game of shuffleboard. These days, you can surf, rock climb, even ice skate onboard. It's a great way to take a large group to see the Caribbean; with more than 30 major islands to choose from, a cruise can give you an instant itinerary and possibly, a great discount group rate.

For family group vacations, you might want to choose a cruise with Aruba on its course. The island has many kid-friendly attractions such as a butterfly farm and kids' scuba tours. If your group is most interested in eating well and adventurously on your trip, make sure to find a cruise that has Anguilla as a stop. A chic and serene destination, you'll find imaginative twists on local bounty at popular restaurants such as Blanchards or Tasty's. For a splurge, go to Malliouhana Restaurant, where you can dine on exquisite French food in an open-sided pavilion on a rocky promontory over the sea. There's just so much to do on a cruise - from hiking in nature to exploring exotic ports to getting a hot stone massage in your cabin. You can stay in your group or go your separate ways with all your options.

Ski (Lake Tahoe, CA, Denver, CO, Killington, VT)

Ski resorts seem to exist for group travel. Resorts offer activities for skiing and non-skiing folks alike, and group discount package deals abound. Squaw Valley in Lake Tahoe, California offers thousands of acres of open bowl skiing - there are 33 lifts to choose from! Or skip the slopes one day and go ice skating on the Olympic size rink with its amazing views of Lake Tahoe.

Colorado is blessed with no fewer than 18 ski resorts. Vail is America's largest and most famous ski mountain. And with 193 trails to choose from, it offers a run for everyone. While many of the runs are great for intermediate skiers, experts can brave the famous Back Bowls. Snowboarders will be happy too, with four terrain parks to choose from. If your group getaway members are into a boisterous ski party scene as well as great skiing and snowboarding, Killington, Vermont is the place to go. It is New England's largest resort; there are seven distinct peaks to explore — experts love Bear Mountain, Skye Peak, and The Canyon. The resort is famous for attracting ski clubs, and the numerous bars along the access road keep things hot through the icy Vermont winters.

Outdoor (Oregon Trail, OR)

Exploring the great outdoors is a wonderful idea for a group travel event such as a girlfriends' getaway or a business retreat. Beautiful to see and educational to boot, the Oregon National Historic Trail recognizes diverse facets of history such as prominent past routes of trade, migration, military action, missionary work, and more. You can visit interpretive sites with your group, or go hiking, biking or horseback riding on different trail segments.

Depending on which segment you explore, there are also visiting museums, such as the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper, Wyoming, and Auto Tour Route Interpretive Guides are being developed for each state that the historic trail passes through. The guides provide descriptions of locations where visitors will find remnants of the trail with either interpretive services or media that add insight to the experiences and history of the Oregon Trail. For a more active group travel experience, the Oregon Trail is the way to go.

Tour Scoop

10 Things to Know Before Your First Group Tour

It's going to be great. here's where to start..

Megan duBois

Review: EF Go Ahead’s Food & Wine: Piedmont & Tuscany with America’s Test Kitchen

From  family travel adventures  to  senior travel  to  women-only tours , group tours are a great way to see some of the most amazing places in the world. Not only does traveling with an organized tour allow you behind-the-scenes access to tourist attractions and historic sites, it also lets you step away from planning every minute of the day so you can just be present and actually enjoy your vacation.

Before booking a group tour, there are some key things to consider, though. These include group size, the type of travel you want to do and what you want the group mix to be. And after you’re booked, there are other small details to take care of before setting out on your adventure. If you’re preparing to take your first group tour, here’s what you need to know before and during your trip.

Before you type in your credit card number and book your tour, there are some things you’re going to want to consider especially if it’s your first group tour.

WORLD’S BEST: 15 Best Group Travel Companies for Guided Tours in 2024

People hiking on a boardwalk trail among beautiful mountains and a cloud-dappled blue sky

1. Decide on Destination First, then Research Tour Companies (Most of the Time)

The first step for any vacation is deciding where you want to go. In general, knowing where you want to visit (even if it’s just the region or country) will help you narrow down the tour companies to choose from. Not every company goes to the same destinations, and some only go to certain places seasonally. After you’ve picked your destination, then it’s time to get into the fun part of comparing itineraries from tour companies.

GET MOVING: 9 Best Tour Companies for Walking, Trekking, and Hiking Tours for 2024

One caveat: If you already know you want to travel with a specific tour company like G Adventures , Trafalgar , or Contiki , you might do this in reverse and choose your provider first and then browse the tours during the dates that work for you. This can be a fun way to travel to places that haven’t been on your radar. Once you’ve chosen a destination and have a shortlist of activities you’re most interested in, it’s time to compare tour companies by reading tour operator reviews to find your best fit.

A tour with a company like National Geographic Expeditions will focus more on access and education, for example, while Adventure Women might be a good choice for a woman-only vacation and Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) would be attractive to active travelers over the age of 50 .

2. Research Group Size for Each Tour Company

Tour companies run tours of different sizes. The size of the group is often determined by factors including where you’re going, what you’re going to be doing, and how you’re going to get around. Some tour companies have groups that are as small as 12 people, while others (often cruise tours) have groups that are over 100 people. Tour group sizes can even vary within the same tour operator; for example, standard coach tours from Trafalgar average 40 people, while its small group active tours top off at 17 participants.

GO IN COMFORT: How to Choose the Best Walking Shoes for Travel

Tour group sizes are usually listed on the tour itinerary page, but if you don’t see it there you can call the tour company and ask. Each tour will have a minimum and a maximum number of participants. Don’t skip this part of the research process, because group size can have a big impact on your enjoyment. It all comes down to your preference and personality type.

3. Consider the Group Type

Along with the group size, you’ll want to consider the type of group you want to travel with. If you’re a solo traveler, for instance, you might want to travel with a company or on a departure geared to people traveling as a party of one. There are also women-only groups, adults-only groups, and family tours with kids as young as six. Before booking, think about what you want the group makeup to be. TourScoop’s tour company reviews go in deep on group types and demographics by company.

4. Assess Activity Level and Accessibility Concerns

Most tour companies rate their tours by level of activity and what baseline degree of fitness will be best to make the most of the offerings. Many (but certainly not all) companies disclose up front what sort of challenges travelers with mobility concerns might face; for instance, uneven footing on cobblestone streets, non-wheelchair-accessible sights, and so on.

GUIDED JAPAN: 10 Best Japan Tours to Take in 2024

Depending on your concerns about minimum fitness levels or accessibility, it may be worthwhile to call the tour companies you’re considering and ask them specific questions about the itineraries in relation to your situation. It’s always better to know before you book than to find out you won’t be able to participate in some of the activities once you’re on the trip.

Market in Ollantaytambo on Adventures by Disney Peru tour

5. Compare the Activities Offered by Each Tour Company

If you’re hoping to hit the big sights in a destination, make sure the tour includes stops at the premier tourist attractions . For instance, if you’re booking a trip to Peru, you’ll want to be sure it includes a day at Machu Picchu . Or if you’re booking a group tour to Alaska, you may want to make sure the itinerary has a glacier tour. Even on tours that go to the same places, activities may vary.

PACK WELL: 10 Essentials for Your Carry-On Bag

Often, activities are driven by theme, so for instance, a food-focused tour and a history tour of Rome might both go to a major sight like the Colosseum, but other offerings in the city might differ dramatically. Even general-interest tours don’t all have the same stops, so it’s worth it to go over that itinerary closely before deciding, both to make sure there aren’t any disappointing omissions and to check that most of the activities appeal to you.

Group tours that include children often have some separate activities for adults and children , and some activities that are good for everyone on the tour. Activities for families with kids may include a zip line tour through the jungle, or an easy hike to a beach or overlook. Trips that are adult-only often include time exploring historic landmarks, visiting wineries, or taking long hikes.

6. Check Accommodations

Lodging is a detail that varies greatly among group trips and tour operators. Some group tour companies book luxury hotels in the heart of a city, while others stay at more budget-friendly options to drive down the cost of the tour.  While you likely won’t be spending much time at your hotel, for some travelers, the choice of lodging can be a make-it-or-break-it detail.

LEGENDARY TRIPS: 10 Best Greece Tours to Take in 2024

Most group tours have links to the hotels that are part of the trip on the trip itinerary. If accommodations are important to you, take the extra effort before you book to click on the hotel name and do some sleuthing on where you’d be staying.

7. Note How Many Meals Are (and Aren’t) Included

If you’re just beginning to look into your first group tour, be aware that number of meals included in group tours are different from tour to tour and company to company. Some group tours will include almost every meal in the cost of the trip, while others will only include breakfast and one or two other meals. If you pick a tour that does not include most meals, be sure to budget money for those meals. When comparing tour prices, be aware that tours that don’t include most meals could end up being as expensive (or more) than another tour which includes meals.

THAT’S AMORE: 10 Exceptional Italy Tours to Take in 2024

You’ll also want to bring some cash for snacks and sweets, especially in destinations you’ve never been to before. Imagine going to Italy on a tour, seeing a gelato shop, and not having a few Euros on hand to indulge in a sweet treat.

What to Do After Booking and Before Arriving on Your First Group Tour

close up of person using ATM machine

Once you’ve booked your trip, you enter a waiting period that’s equal parts excitement, impatience, and, if it’s your first time to a destination, probably a little anxiety as well. Here are a few easy ways to put all that energy to work and pave the way to a smooth journey.

8. Decide on Your Local Currency Plan

Even if most or all of your meals are covered and your travel expenses are built into the tour, you’re still going to want to have some local currency on hand. Some people prefer to go to their local bank and exchange money before the trip. This means not needing to go to a bank in another country where there may be a language barrier, and you may not have any exchange fees tacked onto your credit or debit card. You’ll usually get a decent but not exemplary exchange rate by going this route.

CLOSER TO HOME: 10 Best Tours of the United States to Take in 2024

Another option is to simply stop by the airport ATM on your way out of the airport or train station at your destination. You will likely incur a small bank fee for using a non-bank ATM (though if you use a bank like USAA that doesn’t have a physical presence, they’ll often reimburse the fee) but it’s the easiest way to get a good exchange rate. Whatever you do, do not exchange money at the airport because the exchange rates are typically among the worst.

9. Join Your Tour Company’s Social Media Group

Many tour companies host private social media groups where you can get great advice and find community with your fellow tour travelers. Sometimes you can even find a group for your specific tour. To check for one on Facebook, type in the tour company and tour name, plus the dates of the tour.

Whether you join a tour company’s private group or a tour-specific one, these social media groups are a great way to virtually meet other travelers and learn tips and tricks from those who have previously traveled with the tour company.

10. Be Flexible and Set Expectations

As with all things travel, it pays to be flexible. You’ll have a much better trip if you can accept in advance that you may get delayed at the airport or that the tour may have changes to the schedule based on the closures of attractions or sights. These types of things are often out of the tour company’s control, and they do their best to find alternative activities that are of the same value. If you’re able to go with the flow you’ll be able to appreciate the whole experience more and feel less put out when things don’t go exactly to plan.

tour group booking

How a group tour changed my whole approach to travel

I 've always considered myself a fiercely independent traveler. I've navigated more than 50 countries on my own, and while I have sometimes booked short excursions, usually for a day, it had never occurred to me to book a group tour. That changed when I decided to take two of my children on a family tour with Intrepid Travel .

I had planned on spending our winter break in the Middle East but changed my mind at the last minute due to safety concerns . Because of the abrupt change, I knew I wouldn't have time to plan an itinerary, book hotels and arrange transportation before our departure date. However, I didn’t want to let that stop me from having an adventure. I'm glad I took a chance on a group tour because it changed the way I travel. Here's how.

BEST OF THE BEST: 15 Best Group Travel Companies for Guided Tours

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

The trip planning was stress-free

I spent a little time comparing tour companies but quickly honed in on Intrepid. The company offers a variety of itineraries for families at different price points, and a few of my friends had been on its tours and had a good experience. I also liked that Intrepid offers specialized tours for different types of travelers, including family tours .

At first I planned on an "original" style family tour but upgraded to a "comfort" tour, which included more activities and meals along with upgraded accommodations. Although it cost more, the company's 10-day Morocco Family Holiday tour was still within my budget and looked like a good value.

BEFORE YOU GO: The 5 most important questions to ask yourself before booking a tour

Once I committed to a tour, my planning was essentially done. That was a huge relief. I normally spend hours searching for hotels , figuring out some must-do activities in every location along with some off-the-beaten-track attractions, researching transportation options, and gathering restaurant recommendations. Although I often find it's fun, it’s also time-consuming and can become draining for trips that involve several stops.

Even though a group tour was not exactly what I would have planned on my own, Intrepid's Morocco itinerary was fairly close. I thought giving up some control was well worth the trade-off of not having to do all the planning on my own. Because Intrepid uses local teams based at its tour destinations to plan trips, I also hoped having a local involved would bring me to places I never would have found on my own.

SAVE MONEY: Kids stay free at these 10 all-inclusive family resorts

Instead of reading hotel reviews and booking entry tickets, I spent the weeks leading up to my family vacation learning more about Moroccan culture. I knew this would enrich my experience more than figuring out all of the details for a trip abroad to run smoothly. I'm usually a mix of excited and stressed in the week or two leading up to a big trip. This time I was mostly excited, and my stress was at a minimum.

Though I won’t stick exclusively to group tours in the future, this trip taught me to not sweat the small stuff so much. I don’t need to spend so much time finding the perfect hotel or restaurant to have a great trip.

Group trips are fantastic for solo travelers and parents traveling on their own

Before I had a family, I often traveled on my own. Though I enjoyed solo travel , it was lonely at times, even more so when I stopped staying at youth hostels and lost access to the fantastic communities they provide. Now I frequently travel with my two younger children. They are fantastic travel companions, but on longer trips I sometimes find myself longing for adult interaction or an extra pair of hands. Additionally, even though my kids usually get along well, they sometimes get sick of each other in the absence of any other playmates.

TRAVEL WITH TEENS: 10 best vacation ideas for families with teenagers

On my Intrepid trip, I had other adults to talk to throughout the day. That was a refreshing change from my usual experience of going a week or more without speaking to another adult for more than five minutes, usually for transactional matters like checking into a hotel. My kids also quickly made friends with the other children on the trip. Not surprisingly, all of the families on the trip had similar interests and an adventurous spirit. My children and I were the only Americans in the group, and it was interesting learning more about life in New Zealand, Canada and Australia from the other families.

The parents in the group quickly started leaning on one another for support. One mom, also traveling alone with her children, asked me to take one of her daughters on an outing so she could get some one-on-one time with her other child. I asked a different mom to keep an eye on my son while I packed our things for the next day. It was nice not feeling as if I was on my own.

UNIQUE TRIPS: Hate bus tours? These 7 unique guided tours were made for you

This "it takes a village" spirit is something I want to bring with me in my future travels. Although it’s not possible to replicate the experience of traveling with other families, it is possible to seek out connections away from home. For example, on a recent trip, my son wanted to play soccer with local children who lived near our hotel. Instead of rushing him away so we could squeeze in another activity, I let him play. He wound up meeting up with the other kids every night we were there, sharing candy and communicating with an app. The nights playing soccer were a highlight of that trip for him and something I probably would not have let him do before my experience with a group tour.

I appreciated a slower pace

I have serious FOMO and often pack too much into my days when I travel. When I first reviewed the itinerary, I noted right away that it had downtime and even an entire free afternoon built into the trip. Though I know many people enjoy that balance, I was worried I would feel bored and come away feeling as if I had traveled halfway around the world and missed seeing all there is to do.

TRIP REVIEW: Adventures by Disney’s Peru tour is a riveting family adventure

The reality is it’s impossible to do everything. Trying is exhausting and impossible. There is always something left on the to-do list at the end of the trip. It was refreshing to go into a trip not trying to see an entire country in two weeks and being OK with that from the outset.

Though there were a couple of other things I would have liked to have squeezed in, I was very happy with the balance of activities and downtime. Other than all-inclusive family vacations and trips to family resorts , I normally don’t schedule time to just relax while I am traveling. It was really nice to have time to read and play UNO with my kids. I also liked that Intrepid had a couple of optional activities for those of us who didn’t want quite as much downtime as others.

MONEY MATTERS: How much should you tip on a guided tour? All your gratuity questions answered

I do still feel pressure to see and do everything when I travel, but going on a group trip helped me see the value in traveling at a slower pace. Some of my favorite moments from my Intrepid trip happened during scheduled downtime; they gave me and my children time to just enjoy being with one another without the pressures of work and school. It’s a lesson I’ve tried to carry with me as I’ve planned future trips.

Learning from a local is invaluable

One reason I chose Intrepid is the company uses all local guides, and most tours use the same guide throughout the trip. It may sound obvious that learning from locals is the best way to get to know a country, but I had underestimated just how valuable traveling with a local guide would be.

TOUR REVIEW: Adventures by Disney’s South Africa tour is a lesson in culture, history, and beauty

I learned much about Moroccan culture through our tour guide, who was always willing to answer questions about his life and traditions. He even brought us to his family home to meet his parents and niece, which was a very special experience. Aside from being able to share the history of everywhere we visited, I also liked that our guide warned us about scams to watch out for, shared the tipping culture and gave advice on bargaining. He was also helpful when it came to practical matters like finding an ATM.

For future trips, I will be more open to taking guided tours with local guides, even if it’s just for a few hours. I will also make it a point to try to talk to more locals, as long as I can do so without bothering them too much.

Even though it wasn’t what I had originally planned, not only did I have a great experience on my trip with Intrepid, it has also forever changed the way I plan to travel.

General Group Contract Terms and Conditions:

These details supplement, and are hereby incorporated into, your Group Contract with Delta Air Lines.  Delta reserves the right to change these terms at any time without notice; however, the terms in effect on the date you execute your Group Contract will apply.

  • These Group Contract Terms and Conditions detail standard policies for group reservations; however, terms are subject to additional restrictions during peak travel periods as designated by Delta Air Lines, Inc.
  • A group consists of 10 or more passengers traveling together on at least one common flight segment. In the event your group does not meet the minimum of 10 passengers, this booking will be cancelled, any deposit will be forfeited, and passengers may contact Delta about creating a new booking as individual travelers, which will be for the fare available at that time.
  • Any changes requested to the Group Contract will require a renegotiation of fare and terms. Additions to your group may be at a different fare from the main group.  Individual deviations from the group itinerary may be available with additional fees and payment of any additional airfare.  A nonrefundable booking fee may also apply as specified in your Group Contract.
  • You are also responsible for compliance with any applicable laws or regulations in the discussion of these fares with your customers.
  • The information regarding this group is confidential between the travel agent or group leader and Delta’s Group and Specialty Sales Center.  Therefore, no information will be given to, nor changes made on behalf of, individual group members.
  • Group tickets are not eligible for SkyMiles upgrades, and mileage accrual will be according to the SkyMiles program accrual policy for unpublished or opaque fares.
  • All travel pursuant to this reservation shall be subject to Delta's applicable contract of carriage (and general rules tariff) and all applicable fare rules and restrictions.
  • All necessary travel documentation to comply with governmental travel requirements (e.g., passports and visas) are the responsibility of the passenger. DL is not liable for any travel issues resulting from lack of proper documentation.
  • Delta reserves the right to change equipment or schedules without notice.

Deviation Policies:

A deviation is defined as a change to the date, time or routing.  Any deviations may be at a different fare from the main group. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the main group must maintain group minimum requirements .  Your group may book deviations from the original group as follows:

  • Prior to the group's utilization date an unlimited number of passengers may deviate from the group itinerary on either the outbound or the return at the applicable fare with no deviation fee.
  • After the utilization date a maximum of 30% of the group may deviate on the outbound or return for a US$25.00 per person domestically and US$50.00 per person internationally nonrefundable deviation fee plus the applicable fare difference.
  • The percentage of passengers who may deviate is based on the total number of seats held by the group at utilization date.
  • Feeders (passengers wishing to travel from a different city connecting to the main group travel segment(s)) are not included in this limitation and may be done at any time prior to ticketing at the applicable fare for the new itinerary.
  • A credit card is the only acceptable form of payment for deviations and is required at the time the deviation is booked.
  • Passengers may make changes after ticketing at the applicable fare upon payment of the applicable ticket change or reissue fee plus any difference in fare.
  • Once travel has commenced routing changes are not permitted.  Changes to the return travel date or time only will be permitted at the applicable fare with the appropriate ticket reissue fee and any difference in fare.

Utilization Policy:

In consideration for Delta's agreement to hold this seat inventory for your group, you agree to pay Delta a cancellation fee listed on your contract per seat, assessed from the deposit, if you fail to comply with the ticketing deadlines and/or if you fail to use at least the utilization percentage of the seats that we have reserved for you, as specified in your contract.

If there is no Deposit Due date, no deposit funds are due. The following policy applies only if a deposit is collected:

  • If your group does not meet the minimum of 10 or individual members do not travel with the group, (a) the deposit will be forfeited and (b) passengers will be considered individual travelers and must be ticketed at the applicable fare.

If the Utilization is listed as 100%, the deposit will be refunded for ticketed passengers only.

If you fail to use at least the utilization requirement percentage of the seats that we have reserved for you, the amount of the cancellation fee will be calculated as follows:

  • It is your responsibility to obtain a cancellation reference number from Delta for complete cancellations. Delta's business records will conclusively determine the time and date of any cancellation.
  • Partial cancellations do not require a cancellation reference number.
  • A new confirmation letter will be distributed at the time of any reductions, deviations, feeder additions or other itinerary changes.
  • Until the last day to cancel/reduce without penalty:  100% of the seats may be cancelled without a cancellation fee.
  • Except to the extent otherwise expressly specified in your contract, from the last day to cancel/reduce without penalty until 60 days before departure:  must maintain the minimum main group utilization requirement percentage of seats held for a full deposit refund.
  • If you use some, but less than utilization requirement percentage, of the seats held, you will be charged the cancellation fee specified in your Group Contract for each seat below the utilization requirement percentage minimum.
  • If  all  the seats on your reservation are cancelled after the utilization date specified in your contract, the entire deposit will be forfeited.
  • 60 days or less before departure: Deposits will be refunded for ticketed passengers only within 60 days of the commencement of travel.
  • Any applicable cancellation fee will be collected from the deposit on file.

Any and all matters arising out of or relating to the Group Contract and/or the subject matter hereof shall be governed by and enforced in accordance with the laws of the United States of America and, to the extent not preempted by Federal law, the laws of the State of Georgia without regard to conflict of law principles, regardless of the legal theory upon which such matter is asserted. The Group Contract, including the Ticket, Fare Rules, and Contract of Carriage as applicable, represents the entire agreement between the parties relating to transportation pursuant to this Agreement, and shall supersede all prior representations, understandings or agreements pertaining thereto, either oral or written. No other covenants, warranties, undertakings or understandings may be implied, in law or in equity.

Delta shall not be liable for any punitive, consequential or special damages arising out of or in connection with the Group Contract, carriage or other services performed by Delta, whether or not Delta had knowledge that such damage might be incurred.  Delta shall not be liable for any damage arising out of its compliance with any laws, government regulations, orders, rules, requirements or security directives or as a result of a passenger’s failure to comply with such laws, government regulations, orders, rules, requirements or security directives or as a result of a passenger’s reliance on advice provided by Delta regarding such laws, regulations, orders, rules, requirements or security directives.  Election or failure by Delta to enforce any provision of the Group Contract shall not constitute a waiver of its rights and remedies with regard to such provision or any other provision.   No agent, servant, or representative of Delta has authority to alter, modify, or waive any provisions of the Group Contract or these Terms and Conditions.

Go beneath the streets on this tour of the spectacular, mind-bending Moscow Metro! Be awed by architecture and spot the Propaganda , then hear soviet stories from a local in the know. Finish it all up above ground, looking up to Stalins skyscrapers, and get the inside scoop on whats gone on behind those walls.

Know More about this tour

We begin our Moscow tour beneath the city, exploring the underground palace of the Moscow Metro. From the Square of Revolution station, famous for its huge statues of soviet people (an armed soldier, a farmer with a rooster, a warrior, and more), we’ll move onto some of the most significant stations, where impressive mosaics, columns, and chandeliers will boggle your eyes! Moreover, these stations reveal a big part of soviet reality — the walls depict plenty of Propaganda , with party leaders looking down from images on the walls. Your local guide will share personal stories of his/her family from USSR times, giving you insight into Russia’s complicated past and present. Then we’re coming back up to street level, where we’ll take a break and refuel with some Russian fast food: traditional pancakes, called bliny. And then, stomachs satiated, we are ready to move forward! We’ll take the eco-friendly electric trolleybus, with a route along the Moscow Garden Ring. Used mainly by Russian babushkas(grannies) during the day, the trolleybus hits peak hours in the mornings and evenings, when many locals use it going to and from their days. Our first stop will be the Aviator’s House, one of Stalin’s Seven Sisters, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — and you’ll hear the legends of what has gone on inside the walls. Throughout your Moscow tour, you’ll learn curious facts from soviet history while seeing how Russia exists now, 25 years after the USSR.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Nikolai (Nick), our tour guide, was very knowledgeable, thorough, and has a great personality. He didn't take shortcuts and really covered everything that was on the agenda in great detail. 7 of the best all-inclusive experiences to book this year, from a travel planner

  • As a travel planner, my clients seem to be increasingly interested in all-inclusive trips .
  • Some of my favorite luxury resorts are in Costa Rica, the Maldives, and Isla Mujeres.
  • Cruises, group tours, and adults-only lodgings can also come with all-inclusive options.

Insider Today

As a travel planner at Marvelous Mouse Travels , I know vacations are expensive — especially if you're looking to go somewhere this summer . But all-inclusive travel is often a great way to get the most value out of a luxury experience.

I've been on several all-inclusive vacations with my family, friends, and work, and I've helped other people book them in destinations around the world .

Here are some of the best all-inclusive experiences I'm recommending to my clients this year.

Try a split-stay vacation to see the best of Costa Rica.

tour group booking

Costa Rica is one of the most sought-after vacations , and for good reason. It's great for both relaxation and adventure.

I recommend booking a split stay, starting at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste near the beach for some fun in the sun and moving to a resort near the famous Arenal Volcano for a jungle adventure.

Some of my favorite resorts in Costa Rica are the Westin Reserva Conchal and the Dreams Las Mareas. And if you're looking for an even more unique experience, check out the glorious swim-out suites with private pools at Dreams.

Baglioni Maldives is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts.

tour group booking

The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.

For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape.

The Maldives also has some of the most beautiful marine life and coveted spots for snorkeling and scuba diving.

No matter where you go, overwater bungalows are the ultimate all-inclusive splurge.

tour group booking

Overwater bungalows — villas standing on poles over open ocean water — are prevalent at all-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Maldives, Fiji, and Bali.

But I've also come across the luxurious accommodations at select adults-only Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean.

I think having a private villa on the water is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Adults-only vacations are on the rise.

tour group booking

Traveling with kids can be a blast, but I also think it's important for adults to take a much-needed break on their own.

Adults-only resorts have been a total respite for me and my husband after hectic months of juggling work with our kids' school and sports schedules.

If you're looking to unwind with a partner, relax on a girls' trip, or even connect with your adult children, there are countless adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to choose from, depending on where you're looking to visit.

Some properties, including Sandals and Beaches Resorts, also offer butler service. Designated staff members can help with anything from room requests and dining reservations to cabana rentals and transportation coordination.

I upgraded to the service at my favorite adults-only spot, Le Blanc Los Cabos, and I felt totally pampered.

Isla Mujeres is pure luxury.

tour group booking

Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, is known for its crystal-clear, turquoise water and peaceful vibe. It's also home to Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in Mexico .

Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort on the island. It offers luxury at its finest, but with only 125 rooms, it has a boutique feel.

One of my favorite features of the resort is the waterslide that leads right into the beautiful ocean.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

tour group booking

Cruising is one of the most popular vacations , whether it's an epic adventure on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, a couples-only journey on Virgin Voyages, or a regal tour of Europe on Viking River Cruises.

Although cruises aren't traditionally considered all-inclusive, with the right booking, they can have the same feel as a luxury resort.

Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Book a small-group or private tour if you're looking for adventure.

tour group booking

Group travel is a great way to explore new places while soaking up culture and history.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive.

I like Adventures by Disney , which offers small-group travel all over the world facilitated by seasoned guides. All the trip details are taken care of, including experiences, food, lodging, and transportation.

Additionally, Kensington Tours offers luxury private travel where every facet of the trip is meticulously planned for you.

To increase the likelihood of your ideal traveler seeing your ads, we offer bid enhancers that let you bid based on length of stay, check-in window, and more. Bid enhancers are a specialized feature that help your hotel ads get noticed by travelers. TravelAds bid enhancers can consistently elevate your property’s visibility with travelers and drive demand, especially in the competitive hotel industry.

Using bid enhancers is one of the hotel marketing strategies you can use to reach your campaign goals, like the Tuscan hotel group Blinkup, who incorporated them along with different Media Solutions products to drive a nearly 600% increase in room nights and nearly 2 million impressions for their hotel ads.

Eliminate the guesswork with automated bidding .

Leveraging our bidding tools is a key part of staying competitive and optimizing your advertising campaigns. We know that the bidding process can be time-consuming and complicated. That’s why we created our automated bidding feature in TravelAds, which does the heavy lifting and bids based on your market goals and daily budget to help your hotel advertisements get noticed.

Showcase what makes your property unique with customizable content .

TravelAds is the ideal hotel PPC, or pay-per-click, advertising option, which allows you to highlight exactly what you want, when you want, with custom copy and photos. Draw attention to new property additions, showcase your story, or feature timely events with TravelAds.

Reach the right audience at the right time with precise targeting capabilities .

One powerful TravelAds feature is targeting, and there are a variety of different targeting options available to advertisers and marketers. These include:

  • Device-based targeting, which allows you to tailor your ads based on whether your target audiences are using a phone, tablet, or a desktop computer. By understanding the context of how travelers engage with ads, you can optimize your marketing campaigns for better reach and relevance. Plus, you can tailor your hotel ads based on the device, like making your ads more mobile friendly.
  • Custom audience targeting, where our travel advertising experts can help you layer multiple profiles to create highly defined and unique traveler profiles that you can act on to better engage your target audiences.
  • Trip details targeting, which allows you to target potential customers based on everything from trip duration, number of travelers, and more.

Keep in mind that you can use our first-party data to help you target travelers and develop defined audience segments.

Capture the attention of travelers with scheduled ads .

With the scheduled ads feature, you can adjust which version of your ad is displayed across Expedia Group brands to appeal to travelers from specific regions or during specific periods. The messaging, imagery, and timing of a series of sponsored listings can be varied and dynamic. By strategically timing your hotel ads, you can capture demand during peak booking periods or target specific traveler segments.

Gain payment flexibility with pre-fund and post-bill .

These features give you added control over your payments. You can choose to fund your TravelAds campaign in advance with pre-fund or pay afterward with post-bill . Plus, you can update your funding method at any time.

  •   Pre-fund : Allocate funds for your campaign with direct billing or a credit card. Your hotel advertisements will stop running once your balance reaches zero, but you can add more funds at any time.
  • Post-bill : Your campaign will start running immediately, and you’ll be billed at the end of every month. There’s no upfront commitment or pre-approval required. When you reach your credit limit, you can add funds with pre-funding or request a credit limit increase.

Manage your campaigns with real-time reporting .

Your TravelAds reporting dashboard provides instant insights into how your campaign is performing, and these multiple data points help you analyze and optimize your campaigns effectively. Key metrics you can view include:

  • Ad impressions: The number of times your hotel ad was displayed to travel shoppers.
  • Click-through rate (CTR): The percentage of users who clicked on your hotel ad after seeing it.
  • Clicked room nights: The number of room nights booked by travelers who interacted with your hotel ad.
  • Clicked revenue: The revenue generated from hotel bookings resulting from ad clicks.

Real-time reporting gives you the adaptability you need to remain competitive. If certain aspects of your hotel marketing campaign aren’t performing as expected, you can adjust immediately.

Get competitive insights with the bid strength meter .

Competitive insights help you understand how you compare against market leaders in key indicators like CPC, ROAS, or daily spend to inform your strategy. Bid strength measures the relative strength of your bid against competing base bids. While it doesn’t guarantee a specific ad rank, this metric can be thought of as showing how likely you are to capture a Top 3 auction spot on a scale from one to 10. Understanding your bid strength empowers you to strategically navigate the competitive landscape and achieve your hotel advertising goals.

Make informed decisions with opportunities and insights .

Our opportunities and insights feature lets you refine your hotel advertising strategy and drive incremental room nights by applying personalized recommendations in the TravelAds portal. With this feature, you can easily pinpoint optimization opportunities based in data intelligence to help you make informed decisions to improve your campaign performance.

Build a TravelAds campaign

Remember, effective hotel advertising isn’t only about visibility; it’s about connecting with travelers, understanding their needs, and delivering a compelling message that inspires action.
