Hilton Travel Agent Rates 1

Hilton Travel Agent Rates: How Advisors Save 25-50% at Hilton!

Travel Agents Save 50% at New Hilton Hotels & Resorts and 25% at all other Hilton Properties!

Hilton Travel Agent Rates

Hilton travel advisory rate restrictions, how much can you save with hilton travel advisor rates, terms & conditions of hilton travel agent rates, hilton travel agent portal, more travel advisor content, hyatt travel agent rates: how advisors save up to 50% at hyatt, ihg travel agent rates: how travel advisors save 50% with ihg.

As a registered travel agent, you are qualified to book Hilton travel agent rates and get a big discount when you stay at Hilton Hotels and Resorts. Keep in mind that these rates are exclusively for registered travel agents and are not meant for the general public.

In this article, we dig into Hilton travel agent rates to see just how much travel agents can save by using these discounts. Here is everything you need to know.

These rates are often called travel agent “familiarization rates” or “fam rates” and are intended to incentivize travel agents to book their clients at Hilton hotels after they have “familiarized” themselves with a specific Hilton property (at a discounted rate).

If you work for a travel agency, the Hilton travel agent program provides discounts of up to 50% off the best available rate.

Quick note: These rates should not be confused with the special rates travel agents can get for their clients at Hilton properties. That is called the Hilton Impresario Rate . This article focuses on the rates Travel Agents can get for themselves.

How to Book Hilton Travel Agent Rates

The process for booking a travel advisor rate with Hilton couldn’t be easier. You will have to go to the Hilton Travel Advisor Booking Page . Then just enter the destination and dates of your trip and click the “Find a Hotel” button.

hilton travel agent rate booking page

You will now see a list of participating Hilton properties in the requested area that have Hilton Travel Agent Rates available. As you can see in the screenshot below, if you are booking in the near future, you may find that your desired hotel is sold out. If this is the case, click on the “select dates” button and it will take you to a calendar view of availability.

hilton travel agent rate search results

The calendar view (below) will give you a month-by-month look at the travel agent rate availability. After looking at this view, you may decide to just push your trip out a day or two so you can take advantage of the lower travel advisor rates.

hilton travel agent rate calendar

The travel agent rates are available for a travel advisor only. When booking a travel agent rate you will receive 50% off at newly opened Hilton hotels and up to 25% off at the remainder of hotels within the Hilton global Portfolio.

Hilton is clearly trying to entice Travel Advisors to check out their new hotels and resorts with a higher discount.

You can only book two rooms at a time with these rates. You must book at least 3 Days in advance at newly opening properties and at least 7 Days in advance with a maximum length stay of 7 nights at existing properties.

Who can use the Travel Agent Rates?

These rates are not available to the general public.  You must be an employee of an airline and be able to present your airline employee ID or, for Travel Agents, you must present your IATAN Photo ID.

IATAN ID Required for Travel Agent Rates

The discounts really aren’t that great for Travel Agents, unless you are booking a room at one of Hilton’s newly opened hotels, where the discount is 50%.

They are better than the publicly available rates but aren’t as good as other Hilton discounts such as the rate you can get with a Hilton Corporate Code .

Hilton travel agent rates are highly discounted rates exclusively for certified travel agents, therefore the following conditions apply:

  • The offer is valid for Travel Agent personal travel only for stays at participating properties in the Hilton portfolio subject to availability.
  • A valid IATAN photo ID is required at check-in. International Travel Agents who do not have an IATAN Photo ID must provide a valid photo ID at the time of check-in.
  • Offer must be booked at least 7 Days in advance of the stay date with a minimum length of stay of 1 night and a maximum length stay of 7 nights. Offer cannot be combined with any other offer.
  • The exclusive discount rate relates to the hotel’s Best Available Rate which is a specific rate type that varies depending on the time of purchase, is unrestricted, non-qualified, and excludes discount or negotiated rates.
  • This Travel Agent offer is NON-COMMISSIONABLE.

Travel Advisors have a dedicated Hilton Travel Agent Site where you can find everything a travel professional would need to know about Hilton including information about commissions, training, and special offers.

Hilton Travel Agent & Airline Employee Rates

I did some research and checked rates at a variety of popular destinations throughout the year to see what I would come up with.  I found the Hilton Travel Advisor discounts much harder to find than similar travel agent rates at Marriott , IHG , and Hyatt .

200+ Travel Agent Rates in 2024 [+PDF Download]

One of the biggest perks of becoming a travel agent is the wealth of travel experiences you have access to. As a travel agent, if you take vendor training, or reach a supplier's sales threshold you unlock travel agent rates for personal travel, special perks, amenities, and access to FAM (familiarization trips) .

The career outlook for a travel is great , plus it's an amazing way to see the world! (And if you still think travel agents don't exist, definitely read the previous link as you may be surprised that travel agencies book a larger share of travel than online travel agencies in the US!)

But the big question is, what are these discounted travel agent rates, and how do travel agents access them? We've got it all together for you in one handy dandy little download.

HAR's Travel Agent Rate PDF download includes details on 200+ supplier discounts! The download includes information on travel agent rates, special discounts, and special reward programs — all exclusive to travel agents (and maybe your friend or family :) ).

Not only that, but the download lists eligibility details and links to the travel advisor portal so you can register your travel agency. You can view the full PDF below!

But of course, this article is so much more than a travel agent rates download!

We'll cover:

  • what different kinds of travel agent discounts are out there,
  • how to qualify a supplier's travel agent loyalty or reward program,
  • and elaborate on some of the top travel agent hotel discounts

First question on the docket: Do travel agents get discounts? They sure do, my friend!

Although, as we'll discuss further, there is a lot more nuance to things than just a yes or no when it comes to if travel agents get discounts. Keep on reading because we'll go over which travel agents get discounts (every supplier is going to have different parameters) and what types of travel advisors can get discounts for.

Different Types of Travel Agent Rates & Incentives

Every supplier is going to have a different kind of travel agent rate or loyalty program. Some are complicated. Some are simple.

Here’s what you can generally expect in terms of travel agent discount programs:

  • Point Systems: Depending on the vendor, point systems offer you just that — a certain number of points per night booked. Points allotted will likely vary by tier of property. If you book a luxury property, you’ll get more points. Travel agent point systems, while somewhat complicated, are great for flexibility. It levels the playing field and operates like an amped-up client-facing rewards program.
  • Cash Incentives: Some vendors will offer travel agents hard cash for bookings (e.g. you get $25 for every room night booked). This isn't a rate or discount, but it's definitely an incentive!
  • Straight-up Flat Discounts: Some travel agent discounts are simple—you get a certain percentage off your stay. Easy peasy.
  • Special Reduced Rates: Because you’re a travel agent (or because you love to travel), you know that suppliers have peak seasons, different classes of properties, rooms, etc. Many suppliers will issue reduced rates exclusive to travel agents, outlining what the cost is for a different room category, itinerary, sailing date, etc.
  • Traveling for Free: Free travel is not the norm. There are circumstances travel agents may get a free cruise, a free theme park ticket, or free nights at a resort (etc.). This typically happens after a travel agent completes a vendor’s training program or if you're a top sales person of that supplier/brand.
  • Group Travel Rates : I’m not going to go deep into group rates, since this is something that (believe it or not) is typically offered in addition to travel agent rates. If you book a certain number of people on a trip or cruise (or a certain number of nights stay) you get a free credit you can use for yourself or for a client. (e.g. for Globus brands, you can receive travel agent discounts ranging from 25% - 100% depending on itinerary, group size, and when you book.)
  • Familiarization (FAM) Trips: In my mind, FAM trips are more of a travel agent perk than a travel agent discount or rate. FAMs are free or deeply discounted trips offered to travel agents (or travel professionals) to educate them about a product or destination. Here's a great explainer of FAM trips .

Suppliers want to keep travel agents happy! Many will have some combination of these perks above.

8 Things You Need to Know About Travel Agent Rates & Discounts

Here are a few things to know about what to expect when you're shopping for travel agent discounts:

1. You Need an Accreditation Number to Get travel agent Discounts

You need to be a travel agent to access travel agent rates and discounts. What makes someone a travel agent? An accreditation number . . . whether you get your own or align with a host agency .

2. Travel Agent Discounts are for Active Travel Agents

Beyond having an accreditation number, you need to sell travel. I know this may seem incredibly obvious, but oftentimes vendors will only offer travel agent rates or perks after you reach a certain sales threshold.

3. A Niche Will Help You Get More Travel Agent Bonuses & Rates (Here’s Why)

Part of developing a travel agent niche is getting a pulse on who your preferred suppliers are. When you begin to get a handle on what suppliers you love, you can focus your time and energies on learning those suppliers inside out.

This will help you establish the deep product knowledge and supplier relationships required to be a successful seller. In turn, you'll have access to more travel agent discounts and rewards as your sales increase.

4. You Often Need to Complete a Vendor Certification to Get a Discount

If you’re completely new, you’re not going to have a long scroll of past sales to help you access travel agent rates. But don’t worry. Many suppliers offer special rates, FAMs, or even free trips once you complete their training programs.

You'll want to make sure you stay current on supplier certifications so you can keep up with their updates and offer your clients the most recent info. Suppliers want you to love their brands and they know you gotta experience it yourself to love it!

5. Rules Most Likely Apply

Travel agent discounts are often saddled with long terms and conditions and/or fine print. This fine print may be peppered with info like blackout dates or that rates are subject to change (without asking for your permission). Unsurprisingly, travel agent rates are non-commissionable.

6. Travel Agent Rates and Programs can Change

Yep. They can and do. So when you read about specific travel agent discounts below, be sure you always check directly with your supplier/ BDM (Business Development Manager) for the most updated travel agent discount policy!

7. Q: If You Book Under a Host agency, Will You Get Your Discount?

Yes. When you set up your logins on host portals, suppliers will know which agent booked what and you’ll get your due glory.

When you set up your logins on host portals, suppliers will know which agent booked what and you’ll get your due glory.

An exception is Disney. For Earmarked Disney agencies (Disney's top selling agency program), it's the accrediting agency that will receive the allotted theme park tickets and travel agent rates to distribute among their agents. So ask your agency how that works if you want to get in it. That said, there are still incentives for solo Disney advisors who complete the College of Disney Knowledge! (Just check out the download !)

8. If you get bonuses, you may need to pay taxes on it

Any point system that can be exchanged for cash may be subject to taxes if you earn more than $600 in bonuses. Don’t ask me. Ask your accountant and make sure you know the tax implications of points you cash in.

Travel Agent Rates & Discounts that Will Make Your Brain Explode 🤯

Let's be honest with ourselves, this is probably why you're here for! To find more information on the travel agent rates, click on the link in the cell.

Also, things change. While we update this annually, check directly with the supplier for the most current travel agent rates and discounts.

Questions to Ask About Travel Agent Rates

You'll likely have questions about a supplier's travel agent rates. One thing to stress is that only asking about a supplier's discounts for travel agents is... well, it's tacky. Bottom line: Your first communication with a vendor should not be about their travel agent rates.

Your first communication with a vendor should not be about their travel agent rates.

These rates are for travel pros who are serious about their trade and want to increase sales. Make the effort to educate yourself on the product, let your BDM (business development manager) know your plan to help increase your sales for their product, and THEN you can ask about the travel agent rates.

If you’re really wanting to compare different rates and programs, here are a few questions you to think about, some of which are in the download above!

  • What travel accreditations are accepted? (TRUE may not be accepted everywhere)
  • Are there companion benefits?
  • Do you need to complete supplier education to secure the rate? If so, how often do I need to renew or recertify (if at all)?
  • Are there other eligibility requirements?
  • What's the sales threshold to attain travel agent rates or benefits?
  • Does belonging to a host agency impact my benefits?
  • What are typical blackout dates or seasons?
  • How long do I have to redeem my travel agent benefits (if it’s a point system)? When do they expire?
  • How do I request or access these benefits?

I'm going to do a deeper dive into a few travel agent hotel rates. There are a zillion different properties so I'm including just a few here. They offer a good idea of what kind of rates travel agents can expect from hotels.

You may be able to find better travel agents rates if you book the hotel through a tour operator.

Keep in mind that these hotel programs listed below are hotel-direct. Advisors seeking discounted hotel rates will need to book them directly through the hotel (rather than booking via a tour operator).

Another thing to note is that hotels with education programs typically will offer the best travel rates (above a standard travel agent rate).

IHG is linked and included in our download above . Yay! IHG offers a baseline discount of 35% off their Best Flex Rate to travel agents. Not to0 shabs!

Marriott Travel Agent Rates

Marriott acquired Starwood in 2015. So if you're looking for Starwood's travel agent rates, look no further than Marriott. Marriott has two different types of travel agent rates. Here's the rundown:

1. Marriott Travel Agent Rates

Marriott's travel agent rate is their blanket travel agent rate program which isavailable to any accredited travel agent with a valid IATA, ARC, CLIA or TIDS accreditation number . It's worth noting that Marriott does not accept TRUE number s.

The travel agent rate varies depending on availability, hotel category, and season. Marriott's travel agent discounts run up to 50% , but you can typically expect less. (At the time of writing this, the discounts ranged from 10-15% when I searched my hometown.)

Marriott's travel agent rate offers can be used to book up to two rooms for unlimited nights (depending on availability)

Marriott's travel agent rate offers can be used to book up to two rooms for unlimited nights (depending on availability).

Here's how to take advantage of Marriott's travel agent rate offers:

Marriott Travel Agent Programs

1. To access Marriot's rates, travel agents need an IATA ARC, CLIA, or TIDS number (and the ID to prove it when you check-in).

2. Search Marriott's travel agent rates here (Main menu>Promotions>Travel Agent Rate Search).

3. Log in/register to make a booking!

2. Marriott's Fam-Tastic Travel Agent Rates

Marriott's Fam-Tastic program is designed less for personal leisure and more to provide an opportunity for agents to familiarize themselves with properties (hence the name).

For Marriott's Fam-tastic program, advisors can reserve one room for four nights maximum.

This program is only available to Marriott's preferred travel agencies . You can visit host profiles and drop them a note in the Q&A section to ask if they are a preferred Marriott agency.

Question and answer section on host agency profile

Marriott's FAM-tastic rate offers deeper discounts than their standard travel agent rate but with more requirements. In addition to fulfilling the requirements for a standard travel agent rate, other requirements include:

  • Marriott Bonvoy membership
  • Complete Core Hotel Excellence! (HE!) classes
  • Fulfill HE! continuing credits every year
  • Have an updated Marriott International (MI) Partner Privileges profile

Here's how to access Marriott's FAM-tastic rates:

Travel Agent Airline Discounts

I'm going to take a deep dive into travel agent airline discounts. Why? Travel agent airline discounts are more complicated to access for a smaller reward .

Here's why . . .

These travel agent airline rates are typically referred to as "AD50" or "AD75," signifying 50%-75% airline discounts for travel agents. At first, this seems like an amazing discount.

But as you’ve probably guessed, travel agents do not get 50-75% off their airline tickets. Otherwise, so many people would want to become a travel agent that our website would break :)

Without going too deep into the weeds, here's why these airline discounts can seem misleading at first.

Airlines break seats down into many different fare classes . All these fare classes have different pricing and rules attached to them. Among other things, the fare classes help the airline understand if you paid full fare or a discounted rate, if you’re in first class/business class/economy class, if you’re doing one way or round trip, and lots of other details.

Even at 50-75% off, Y fare class seats usually cost more than the other economy tickets available.

When it comes to travel agent airline discounts, the AD50 and AD75 discounts apply only to Y-fare class seats, which are full-fare economy seats. Essentially, they’re the most expensive economy-class tickets possible. Even at 50-75% off, Y fare class seats usually cost more than the other economy tickets available.

Not only are AD50 and AD75 discounts often more expensive than other economy tickets available, but there are also more hoops to jump through to access them. Airlines that offer these flight discounts will often have stringent eligibility requirements and detailed terms and conditions required to even request them.

According to seasoned corporate travel advisor and owner of Pioneer Travel, Mike Edic, "By the time you figure out the 'discounted' price, you can still purchase a real ticket for a lot less." Edic elaborated that these rates are seldom cheaper unless it's a last-minute booking (where all that remains are those pricey, full-fare Y-class seats).

Holy Moly! Thank You!

I almost found myself on the dark web looking for travel agent rates. Google only gets you so far . . . that is until it got you to this article.

But here’s a list of fab industry professionals who picked up the slack for Google (brace yourself, it’s a long list!): Bonnie Lee at Travel Quest , Summer Corbitt at Uniglobe , Guy Young and Priscilla Odoom at Insight Vacations, Josh Mahon at Rocky Mountaineer, Maria Triantos at Celestyal Cruises, Jim Tedesco at Apple Leisure Group Vacations, Mike Edic of Go Pioneer Travel, and all the stellar travel advisors who weighed in on Steph Lee’s FB page.

This is a living, changing, breathing document . . . Do you have a favorite travel agent rate or reward program? Holler in the comments!

Thank you Shawna for this TA information. I just now found it for the first time!

You are welcome, Pam!

This is great information Shawna, thanks?!

You’re very welcome, Melinda!

Outstanding!! wish I had seen this sooner. I just rented a car for 3 weeks from Alamo in Ft Lauderdale. I showed the counter attendant my CLIA card and asked for a discount, which I did not get.

Why wouldn’t they accept it? Was it because it wasn’t an IATAN card? I have a CLIA card as well. Marriot Hotel Excellence allows a CLIA card for their FAMtastic rates

This is great information and it is very helpful. Thank you for all your hard work. I would appreciate if you could send me an email have a few questions hoping you can help me with. Thanks in advance.

Do you know if Radisson or other hotels accept CLIA card, if we don’t yet have an IATAN card?

Hi Samantha! Per their current online registration form, they accept IATA/ARC/TIDS/CLIA/TRUE.

Thank you for this update!

Shawna, I dont sell enough to qualify for an IATA card myself. Can I use the agency’s number instead or does it have to be person specific to register for these discounts? Thanks so much

Hi Joan! Thank you for your question! These discounts typically require the agent to show their personal IATA card at the location.

i just called Sea World in San Antonio and they did not know anything about the 50% off. Do you konw if it is park or city specific? I have an IATA card.

Thanks. Tim

Our team members that have used this discount in the past simply showed their IATA card at the gate. We’ll look into this to see if the deal is no longer being offered!

**Centrav cannot guarantee availability or access to discounts mentioned in this post.

Thank you! I love the Centrav posts!

Thank you, Nanci!

Thank you for the wonderful post.

Do you happen to know if I can apply for an IATAN card even if I do not work for a travel company?

Thank you, Saurabh

Hi Saurabh,

Thank you for your comment! In order to be eligible for an IATA/IATAN card, an agent must work for an IATA-accredited travel agency.

Check out this post for more info: https://resources.centrav.com/get-iata-card/

Thanks very much

Thank you so much for this!

You are welcome!

Hi Shawna, I am an admin for a nationally touring music band. I am interested in learning how to get travel agent discounts on mostly flights and hotel for the band. Do I need to become a travel agent for that? If you could lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Hi Cyndee! We can send you more detailed information shortly!

Thank you for this information.

You’re welcome, Marilyn!

Hello, thank you for this guide. Do you know if travel agents are able to get discounts with baggage for flights ?

I am not aware of travel agent discounts for luggage, however, some private airfares offer extra luggage! This is totally dependent on the airline, routing, etc.

How does Trivago work?

How to search for accommodations through trivago, what is trivago book & go, how to find trivago hotel deals, trivago hotel deals, recapped.

Finding a hotel can sometimes cause sensory overload — the sheer number of online travel agencies and hotel websites to check is enough to put anyone in freeze mode. If only there was a single site to help you navigate an infinite maze of hotel rooms.

Enter Trivago, a metasearch engine that compares lodging options to help you find the right hotel for your stay and save money in the process. Perhaps it also can help you calm your senses while vacation planning. Here's the scoop on Trivago.

Trivago is not a booking site, but instead, it is a price comparison site that is available in more than 50 countries. It shows hotel prices for more than 5 million properties — from multiple booking platforms, including online travel agencies (OTAs), hotel chains and independent hotels — in one place.

Trivago’s search engine is capable of pulling up prices for the same hotel from hundreds of websites, including Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo, Trip.com and Priceline. Once you find a deal you like, Trivago transfers you to the booking site offering that rate to complete the booking process.

The websites Trivago refers to have been vetted, which means you won’t find any illegitimate or fraudulent websites that phish for your personal information or credit card numbers.

Keep in mind that Trivago searches hotel prices only and can’t search for other trip components, such as flights or rental cars.

The Trivago hotel rates you see are updated often so that you see the current prices, minus taxes and fees. However, in some rare cases, the offer you find on Trivago might be higher on the corresponding booking site itself.

You can start your Trivago hotel search on Trivago.com by entering a city, a landmark or a specific property you have in mind. Specify your travel dates, the number of rooms and guests, and click “Search.”

travel agent rates hotel

Because you’re going to see a plethora of properties, it’s best to apply filters to narrow your search.

First of all, you can set a price range per night or for the total number of nights.

travel agent rates hotel

Then, you can apply more filters, such as a hotel’s star rating, and check the boxes with the amenities that are important to you, including free cancellation, a gym, breakfast included, a pool, parking and pet-friendly, to name several possibilities.

travel agent rates hotel

Guest ratings are important — you don’t want to stay at a property with bad reviews. The next filter lets you eliminate accommodations with poor ratings.

Say you don’t want to go lower than an 8 out of 10. Then check a box with a “Very good” guest rating. Won’t settle for anything lower than an 8.5? Then click “Excellent,” and Trivago will filter out properties with subpar reviews.

travel agent rates hotel

Next up is property type. Whether you prefer staying at a hotel, guesthouse, bed and breakfast, hostel or apartment, you can select the property type you’re looking for and eliminate the ones that don’t interest you.

travel agent rates hotel

Location is an important factor affecting your hotel search. If you’re looking for a place in a certain neighborhood or even near a specific address, you can select or enter it as well.

travel agent rates hotel

Finally, sort the search results by the following priorities:

Trivago’s recommendations.

Guest ratings.

You also can sort by multiple priorities, such as “Price and recommended” or “Rating and recommended.”

travel agent rates hotel

Trivago’s recommendations feature is based on an algorithm that takes into account “the offer’s price, its general attractiveness and the accuracy of the rates provided to us by the booking sites.”

Keep in mind that unless you’re looking at Trivago Book & Go, the booking process goes through whatever booking platform you choose, whether it’s an OTA or directly with a hotel.

The initial rate you see doesn’t include taxes and fees. You’ll be able to see the final room rate on the booking site of choice.

With Trivago Book & Go service, you can make a hotel reservation with the accommodation provider. In this case, the platform acts as a facilitator, connecting you with a partnering travel agency. This allows you to book Trivago hotel deals directly with the partner.

travel agent rates hotel

Of course, Trivago charges the partner site a fee for the reservations you make through the Book & Go page.

Apply filters

Trivago’s ability to search hundreds of websites is a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Having access to that many options can be overwhelming to sift through.

Trivago has several filters that can help you find the best hotel deal possible. Examples include price, accommodation type and ratings. The more filters you apply to your search, the more tailored your results will be.

Having said that, if you’re finding too few hotels once the filters are applied, especially if you’re searching in an area with fewer accommodation options, consider expanding your search by opening up some of the search criteria.

Use the interactive map

If you click on “View map” in your Trivago search results, you can find hotels based primarily on their physical location. The map shows each property’s location and nightly price, and you can zoom in and out to focus on one specific area or expand your search to multiple neighborhoods in either direction of your preferred location.

travel agent rates hotel

When you hover your cursor over a price, more information about a hotel will appear, including its guest rating, the number of reviews and the website with the best deal.

Check for promo codes or other discounts

Once you find a hotel on Trivago, we recommend checking how you could lower the price you see even further. Some accommodation providers offer AAA , AARP and military rates to members.

Additionally, you might be able to find a promo code for select websites, such as Orbitz or Hotels.com . Finally, ask around to see if anyone you know works for a hotel chain and can get you a friends and family discount.

» Learn more: How to get cheap hotel rooms

If searching for a place to stay is giving your brain more information than it can process, give online resource Trivago a try.

The metasearch engine helps you filter out the noise and find hotel deals in one place. Use the map feature to zone in on a preferred location and scroll until you find the best lodging option for you and your travel companions.

How To Become a Travel Agent

Just because someone has travel experience does not mean they can automatically become a travel agent. However, if you are interested in becoming a travel agent there are many programs you can take to help you become one, or even start your own business. Skills you will learn include how to organize travel arrangements, business ethics, customer service, itinerary planning and the ins and outs of travel insurance.

No matter your career goals, whether you want to focus on luxury travel or more of a local tour operation, the following programs and certifications, which can be done in person or remotely, can get you started on the right path.

  • Departure Lounge: Learn how to navigate the hotel industry as an independent contractor as well as get tips on tour operating.
  • Premier Cruise Lines: Many lines such as Virgin Voyages, Cunard or Ritz-Carlton Yachts provide training programs for travel agents to help them sell their products and services more efficiently.
  • Get Certified: When your training and coursework are complete a certification helps distinguish you in the field with these designations. Some popular ones include the International Air Transport Association, Cruise Line International Association or Travel Industry Designator Service. Be sure to research which certification makes the most sense for you as it will imply different things for your business.

How Much Do Travel Agents Make?

The median pay for what travel agents get paid in the United States is estimated to be about $46,400 annually which is over $3,000 monthly. This may seem underwhelming, but this is an estimate by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which means is only based on what full-time employees make and not self-employed people. In other words, you can make a lot more money as an independent travel advisor as opposed to working for a host agency.

Travel agents make money by earning commissions on trips they book as well as charging fees such as booking or service fees. This is a great way to also set your own schedule and only choose the gigs you like.

Final Take To GO: Love To Travel?

When it comes to starting as a travel agent, a good rule to follow is to try to sell and book trips you yourself would want to take. If you already love to travel this could be a natural next step in your career or a budding side business.

A great way to sell yourself as a travel agent is to define your unique selling point. Essentially what is it about you that will make people want to book trips with you? It also helps to optimize your website, create high-quality content from trips you’ve booked or been on and leverage your social media platforms. Once you have your foundation firmly established, everything else is booking a day at the beach.

  • Full-time travel agents make roughly $46,400 a year which is over $3,000 a month. However, there is a chance to make more money than this estimate by starting your own travel agency and working for yourself. This way you can set your own schedule and don't have to worry about splitting your commissions.
  • You don't need a specific degree to get started as a travel agent, but finding a training program and getting certified with varying destinations does help distinguish you as a trusted travel agent to your potential clients.
  • Selling yourself as a travel agent, much like with any job or small business, starts with defining your unique selling point. Essentially what is it about you that will make people want to book trips with you? It also helps to optimize your website, create high-quality content from trips you've booked or been on and leverage your social media platforms.
  • Get Certified: When your training and coursework are complete a certification helps distinguish you in the field with these designations. Some popular ones include the International Air Transport Association, Cruise Line International Association or Travel Industry Designator Service. Research which certification makes the most sense for you as it will imply different things for your business.

A Travel Agent Tells Us The Best Tip For Booking A Hotel Room

D ecisions, decisions. That's what it all comes down to when you're planning a vacation. From choosing your destination to budgeting, it can be all-consuming. Arguably, one of the most imperative parts of this process is finding accommodations. While Airbnb once reigned supreme, Which? data showed hotels are becoming an affordable option for travelers. But with countless hotel booking sites like Expedia, Trivago, Kayak, and more, it can be challenging to know the right one to use. This, coupled with figuring out the best time to book your hotel , can overwhelm consumers.

Enter Victoria Fricke, an Indiana-based travel agent with Vic's Vacations . Fricke, who previously spoke to Explore about  fake AI-generated travel guides , spoke exclusively to us again and shared some insight to consider when booking a hotel room and one of her best tips. Although it might be surprising news to many, Fricke says that price-wise, different hotel booking sites will offer similar deals but said, "Pricing is something that fluctuates daily based on availability."

She goes on to explain, "Booking engines and websites bank on one thing: consumers returning for ease. Most consumers won't compare between multiple sites — they go to one, look over options, and book. I would advise doing just the opposite. Compare!" As for the best tip, Fricke says that if consumers want more bang for their buck, they should ditch hotel booking sites altogether and book directly with a hotel.

The Perks Of Booking Directly With A Hotel

While Booking directly with a hotel may sound like an old-fashioned idea, Victoria Fricke told us that unless you have a travel advisor, booking directly is the way to go. She notes that it has its advantages over popular hotel booking sites. "Your bedding is guaranteed. When you use a third-party site, your selection on that website doesn't always transfer to the hotel." Plus, booking directly with a hotel usually means there will be more flexibility with cancellation policies, according to Fricke.

Furthermore, there's less chance of surprise fees or commission rates. Additionally, there are also loyalty programs to consider. Fricke said, "Remember, if you are someone focused on points, hotels, and airlines prefer you booking direct and will reward you for doing so, putting you higher on upgrade lists!"

But how does Fricke think you should go about booking your hotel? She provides a scenario to explain. "Let's take a trip to Chicago, for example. The average consumer will go to Priceline — compare location/pricing/amenities and book. Maybe they select a Hilton property."

"The next step I advise clients to do would be to go to Hilton's website directly and compare that same room. If the room is the same price — book direct. If it is more: pick up the phone and call Hilton... they will price match." In short, you can use hotel booking sites to your advantage even if you decide against booking accommodations through them.

Pint-sized bottles of wine will be allowed on UK shelves from autumn under new post-Brexit trade rules - although doubts have been raised over their demand.

Seven changes to pre-packaged wine sizes are due to come into force on 19 September.

The move to introduce the 568ml size of wine, to sit alongside 200ml and 500ml measures already available, was announced in December and hailed by ministers as a Brexit "freedom".

Pint bottles of Champagne were sold in the UK before Britain joined the European Common Market and were on shelves until 1973.

JD Sports has told head office staff they must return to the office at least four days a week .

The new amendment to the hybrid working policy will be effective from 1 July and will impact employees at the retail chain's head office in Bury, Retail Gazette reports.

However, the chain will still allow flexibly depending on individual roles.

Pubs could stay open late during the Euros this summer, according to The Sun .

Home Secretary James Cleverly hinted he was looking into extending pub opening hours for the tournament on The Sun show Never Mind The Ballots.

He said: "I will certainly look into it."

We've been bringing you news of plenty of bank switch deals offering free cash these past few months, but Virgin Money has a different kind of incentive for switchers - a 12% interest rate.

People who switch to its M Account, M Plus Account or Club M Account will be able to get bonus interest rates of 10% gross/10.47% AER (fixed).

This is on top of the 2% gross/2.02% AER (variable) interest rate already offered on current account balances up to £1,000 - meaning customers can get an interest rate of 12%.

No other savings accounts offer interest rates this high, and the bonus applies for a year.

TikTok will restore millions of songs to its app after settling a royalty dispute with Universal Music Group.

Users had been unable to make videos featuring songs from the likes of Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande due to a row over how much TikTok was paying.

The fight had led to Universal withdrawing music from some of the world's most famous singers.

The dispute appears to have been settled as the companies announced "improved remuneration" for artists.

More than 10,500 black cab drivers in London have launched a £250m legal case against Uber.

They accuse the app of breaking the capital's taxi booking rules and deliberately misleading authorities to secure a licence.

Transport for London (TfL) rules state drivers cannot take bookings directly from customers and must instead use a centralised system.

The drivers, who are being advised by law firm Mishcon de Reya, argue they have faced unfair competition from Uber and that it knowingly broke these rules.

Uber has denied these allegations and said the claims are unfounded.

The company has faced numerous challenges in London, including refusals from TfL to renew its licence which were later successfully appealed.

Billie Eilish fans are complaining about "outrageous" ticket prices for her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour.

The 22-year-old singer unveiled an 81-date tour programme this week, sending fans rushing to secure tickets.

But some expressed disbelief on social media at the prices.

"I know I moan about this all the time, but look at the price of Billie Eilish tickets," one fan called Marianne wrote on X, sharing a screenshot of seated tickets priced at £398.50.

"Something seriously needs to be done about ticket prices, it's f*****g outrageous!"

Another complained they had paid less for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour, which was also criticised for high ticket prices.

A fan called Liv tagged Eilish, Live Nation and Ticketmaster, writing: "Are you ok? £145 for standing tickets is atrocious."

Thousands of people who receive government benefits, including Universal Credit, will be paid as early as tomorrow.

This is because there's a bank holiday coming up on 6 May which will affect benefits paid by both the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HMRC (they don't pay benefits on bank holidays).

A statement on the government website reads: "If your payment date is on a weekend or a bank holiday you'll usually be paid on the working day before. This may be different for tax credits and child benefit."

Here are the 11 different government benefits that are expected to be paid early:

  • Universal credit;
  • State Pension;
  • Pension Credit;
  • Disability Living Allowance;
  • Attendance Allowance;
  • Carer's Allowance;
  • Child Benefit;
  • Income Support;
  • Jobseekers Allowance;
  • Personal Independence Payment;
  • Tax credits (such as Working Tax Credit)

Will your benefit payment change?

No, you'll be paid the same amount you usually receive.

Benefits are usually paid straight into your bank, building society or credit account.

Goldman Sachs is removing a cap on bonuses for London-based staff, paving the way for it to resume making multimillion pound payouts to its best-performing traders and dealmakers.

Sky News can exclusively reveal the Wall Street banking giant notified its UK employees today that it had decided to abolish the existing pay ratio imposed under European Union rules and which the government recently decided to scrap.

In a video message to staff, Richard Gnodde, chief executive of Goldman Sachs International, which comprises its operations outside the US, said it had decided to bring its remuneration policy in Britain in line with its operations elsewhere in the world.

"We are a global firm and to the extent possible we adopt a consistent global approach across everything we do," Mr Gnodde said in the message, which has been relayed to Sky News.

"The bonus cap rules were an important factor preventing us from being consistent in the area of compensation."

Aldi's market share has fallen - as people seemingly head back to traditional supermarkets for their shopping.

Aldi's share of the grocery market slipped from 10.8% to 10.4% in the 12 weeks to 20 April.

NIQ data shows sales rose just 1.3% in the period - for Morrisons it was 4.4%, Tesco 5.8% and Sainsbury's 6.6%.

Asda was the laggard with sales falling 0.9%.

Ocado is the fastest growing retailer with sales up 12%.

Aldi's rival discounter, Lidl, saw sales surge 9.5%, bumping its market share up to 8.2%. Media campaigns highlighting new ranges helped, NIQ said.

A Santander online outage is affecting thousands of UK customers.

Over 2,000 reports have been made on Downdetector - indicting the issue is widespread.

Customers have been met with messages like this...

Santander wrote on X: "We are aware some customers are experiencing issues accessing online services, we apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

"We're working hard to resolve this as soon as possible."

Following on from our previous post, and the OECD also says the UK will grow more slowly next year than any other major advanced economy.

It puts this down to stealth taxes and high interest rates squeezing the economy.

The organisation, which is based in Paris, downgraded its forecasts for GDP to 0.4% this year and 1% in 2025.

In February, the UK had been in the middle of the rankings with forecast growth of 0.7% this year and 1.2% next.

The OECD pointed to the fact "tax receipts keep rising towards historic highs" - with National Insurance cuts not offsetting the additional burden Britons are feeling due to tax thresholds not rising along with inflation due to a government freeze.

Some good news is expected for UK workers as the OECD said there will be "stronger" wage growth when inflation is factored in against pay.
