State governments are giving away vouchers to revive tourism, arts and hospitality businesses. Here’s what you’re missing if you haven’t applied for yours.

‘Not good’: Bad news for Aussie flyers
We spent months cooped up indoors during COVID-19 lockdowns. Now, not only are our cities and regions coming alive again – we’re being given free money to go out and enjoy them.
State and territory government are releasing vouchers to residents to redeem as discounts on tourism, dining, arts and entertainment experiences to support those industries doing it tough.
It’s essentially a day or night out, or a few nights away, on the government’s coin.
Voucher schemes vary from state to state – in some cases, every adult resident can claim them, while in others, you have to be a lucky winner.
Here’s a breakdown of the voucher schemes currently on offer across Australia.
NSW Dine and Discover
Every NSW resident aged 18 and over can claim $100 in Dine and Discover vouchers to support businesses in hospitality, arts and recreation across the state.
There are four $25 vouchers all up. That includes two $25 Dine vouchers, which can be spent at restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries, pubs and clubs. The other two are $25 Discover vouchers, to be redeemed on cultural experiences like entertainment and recreation, live music, museums, galleries and arts venues. A full list of participating businesses can be found here .
The vouchers can be used seven days a week but they will expire on June 30, 2021.
How do I get them? Apply on the Service NSW website here . You’ll need two proof of identity cards to register. The vouchers will appear on the Service NSW app, and that’s how you can redeem with the business.
In a different scheme, in June, the NSW Government will release 200,000 vouchers worth $100 each for hotel stays in the Sydney CBD. Watch this space.
Queensland’s Holiday Dollars
The Queensland Government has launched another round of its holiday dollars campaign to boost the embattled tourism sector.
The catch is, not everyone will get them – you have to apply to win.
The latest draw to win one of 30,000 vouchers to the value of $100 to be spent in Brisbane opened on Tuesday and will run until midday Friday.
The vouchers can be spent on tourism experiences in the greater Brisbane region, including Brisbane City, Scenic Rim, Moreton Bay, Redlands Coast, Somerset, Logan and Ipswich, between May 6 and August 15, 2021.
It comes after a successful campaign to drive travellers to the Cairns region, where more than 100,000 people applied for 15,000 vouchers valued at up to $200. After Brisbane, the next round will be for the Whitsundays, from May 4.
How do I apply? Visit queensland.com to see all the rounds of Holiday Dollars and apply for the current draw.

Victoria’s Regional Travel Voucher Scheme
The bad news is allocations for the first three rounds of Victoria’s Travel Voucher Scheme have already been exhausted – and with great speed . The good news is a fourth round is coming, but we don’t know when yet.
The scheme involves $200 vouchers to be spent on accommodation, attractions and tours in regional Victoria, the Yarra and Dandenong Ranges or the Mornington Peninsula. More than 150,000 vouchers were snapped up during the first three rounds, and a separate travel voucher scheme was also launched for metropolitan Melbourne. (Allocations are already exhausted for that, too.)
Last month the Victorian Government confirmed there would be a fourth round, featuring vouchers taken up in the initial rounds but not used. More details are to be announced.
How do I apply for the fourth round? It hasn’t been updated with fourth round details yet, but information on the scheme is on the vic.gov.au website .
South Australia’s Great State Vouchers
There will be a fourth round of South Australia’s travel voucher scheme launching in late May, following the success of the previous three rounds (round three applications closed last week).
The vouchers, which are to be used to boost tourism through winter, will give $50 off participating accommodation providers in regional South Australia and suburban Adelaide, and $100 off hotels in the Adelaide CBD and North Adelaide.
More than 100,000 people registered and 50,000 people were successful in the third round of vouchers for tours and experiences, which were made available via an electronic randomised ballot. Those lucky voucher holders can see a list of participating experiences here .
How do I apply for the fourth round? Keep an eye on the southaustralia.com/voucher website — the fourth round launches in late May.
Similar voucher offers in Western Australia , Tasmania , Northern Territory and the ACT have already wrapped up or applications are now closed.

Fancy a trip to picturesque South Australia ? The South Australian government has announced a second round of ‘Great State’ tourism vouchers to the value of $150.
The first round of travel vouchers, launched in October, 2020, were available only to those who lived in SA. All the same, the scheme injected nearly $10 million into South Australia’s visitor economy.
Kicking off today from January 5, 2021, the second iteration of the Great State Voucher program will provide $100 vouchers for travellers to spend at participating CBD and North Adelaide stays, along with $50 to use at regional and suburban accommodation. And this time, it’s available to all Australians.
The very best of The Latch delivered straight to your inbox.
The South Australian Tourism Commission says the program is valued at more than $2 million, and will launch “just in time for the peak summer holiday period to further stimulate the state’s tourism sector when it needs it most”.
The vouchers are available from today, launching at 11am (ACDT), on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. It’s first-come, first-serve, so if you’re interested in experiencing the beauty and diversity of South Australia, then you’d better head over to the Great State Voucher page now to score yours.
If you’re lucky enough to nab one (well done!), you will have from January 7-31 to book stays with your voucher, with travel dates that span between January 7 to March 31, 2021. Saturday nights are excluded from vouchers, but that shouldn’t bother you too much, especially if you’re across our sneaky tricks for doubling your annual leave in 2021 .

How to cash in on each state & territory's travel voucher scheme
Shaney Hudson
Travel Journalist
30 October 2023
Wondering how to get in on your state or territory’s travel voucher scheme? Here is everything you need to know.
To support the tourism industry each state has designed their own tourism incentive voucher system: some are complex, others already finished, many involve a minimum spend and all are conditional. Below is everything you need to know about each state’s travel incentive and cashback programs.
Vic | NSW | ACT | Qld | WA | Tas | SA | NT
Victoria regional travel voucher scheme.

Status: First and Second round closed, Third launching 30th March, 2021
The third round of Victoria’s travel voucher scheme kicks off at 10am Tuesday 30th March, and involves a $200 reimbursement if you spend a minimum of $400 on tours and experiences, accommodation and entry fees or attractions in 11 eligible regional areas. One voucher is available per household, evidence must be provided of the $400 spent (and can be audited up to four years after your travel), and the $200 is then deposited into a nominated account. Another condition is that you also must stay two consecutive nights in paid accommodation- not with friends or at a holiday house. Victorians can register online for the scheme, must travel during an eligible period from 10th May to the 14th June, and the vouchers cannot be used for food, fuel or gambling. The biggest catch? The system operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, which means if you’re not quick getting online, you miss out.
NEW SOUTH WALES: Dine & Discover
Dine & Discover is aimed at helping the NSW hospitality, tourism and entertainment industries. (Image: Anason Barrangaroo/Destination NSW)
Status: Open
Rolled out across Local Government areas, with the last allocation on March 31st, the NSW Government is offering two $25 dine vouchers for using in restaurants, cafes, bars, wineries, pubs or clubs, and two $25 discover vouchers for entertainment and recreation including live music, museums and art galleries through businesses that have registered for Dine & Discover . Valid until June 30th, they’re available for NSW Residents through the Service NSW app online using a QR code, or can be printed out at Service NSW centres by staff.
The catch? They can only be used once with no change given if you spend less than the $25 amount, and you cannot get takeaway, online food orders, alcohol, tobacco or gambling.
The government has also announced a new package available to NSW residents aimed at boosting tourism in Sydney, by offering up to 200,000 vouchers worth $100 each for accommodation in the CBD, starting in June. Details have not been finalised, but is part of a wider tourism support package.
AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY: Choose CBR
The ACT has offered the Choose CBR scheme. (Image: Hot Air Ballooning over Parliament House/Canberra Tourist Commission)
Status: First Round completed, Second Pending
Launched in December 2020, the first “trial” round of the Australian Capital Territory’s Choose CBR scheme offered $40 worth of vouchers per day for 13 days at registered Canberra businesses – and it was open to anyone visiting Canberra from anywhere in Australia. However, the system was complex: each discount voucher involved a minimum spend. For example, to get a discount of $10 you had to spend $40 overall. To be eligible, businesses also had to jump through hoops: they had to have a physical shopfront, had staff on jobkeeper, be in retail, tourism, accommodation, arts, recreation, personal services or the hospitality sector, and earn less than $10 million turnover per year. The system had mixed results; only $310,000 of the allocated $500,000 was used.
A second main round of vouchers will be available soon, with $2 million earmarked in the ACT 2020-2021 budget, and leaders have highlighted there might be changes so more businesses are eligible. To stay updated, register online at: choosecbr.act.gov.au
QUEENSLAND: Cairns Holiday Dollars
Cairns Holiday Dollars was designed to get tourists to visit the Great Barrier Reef. (Image: Snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef)
Status: Closed
Designed to entice Queenslanders to Cairns and The Great Barrier Reef, the government’s Cairns Holiday Dollars scheme issued 15,000 travel vouchers offering a 50 per cent discount on eligible tourism attractions, up to a value of $200. This included trips out to the reef and 4WD adventures, day spas and attractions, which can be used from March 15th to June 25th. The bad news? Registration opened on March 8th and closed on March 11th for Queenslanders over the age of 18, and was issued via a random lottery. While the premier hasn’t ruled out support for other areas impacted by Covid-19, there are no formal plans in place for more vouchers.
WESTERN AUSTRALIA: Wander Out Yonder & Stay Play and Save
WA have offered the Wander Out Yonder & Stay Play and Save schemes. (Image: Mural at The Adnate Perth – Art Series/Damien Smith)
Announced in September 2020, the Wander Out Yonder campaign included 10,000 vouchers aimed at promoting experiences across Western Australia. While all the vouchers have been snapped up, they offered a $100 discount for every $200 spent, with tours taking place before the end of December 2020.
Recognising urban hotels have done it tough, the government also ran a Stay, Play and Save campaign in early 2021, offering a $200 discount on a two-night consecutive hotel stay in Perth with a minimum spend of $400. Available mid-week, it was valid until the end of April, but bookings had to be finalised by February 19th.
Both schemes have now closed, but locals are encouraged to sign up to the campaign mailing list to be notified if another scheme runs.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA: Great State Experience Voucher
South Australia’s third round of vouchers will target hosted tours and experiences in the state.
Status: Third Round Pending
South Australia is onto its third round of tourism incentives. Launched in October, the first round offered $100 vouchers for hotels in urban areas and $50 for regional areas and was valid from October to December. The second, launched in January 2021 included a separate allocation for interstate travellers alongside locals.
While final details have not been released, South Australia’s third round of vouchers will target hosted tours and experiences in the state. The Great State Experiences voucher will provide $50, $100 and $200 vouchers for registered businesses during the quieter winter period and July school holidays. It is aimed at South Australians, but they have indicated a small allocation will be available to interstate travellers. Set to launch after the peak Easter season, get ready to get in fast as it’s first in, best dressed: the first allocation sold out in 90 minutes, the second in 40 minutes.
TASMANIA: Make Yourself at Home
Tasmania’s Make Yourself at Home scheme has offered accommodation and experience vouchers. (Image: Hobart)
Tasmania has offered two travel voucher schemes under the Make Yourself at Home moniker, but both have now finished. The first round kicked off in September, allowing couples, singles and families to register for a combination of accommodation and experience vouchers valued from $150 per adult to $550 per family, eligible until December 2020. Voucher holders claimed the money back after showing receipts.
The scheme was popular, with both the first and second rounds selling out within an hour. However, with a state election now called for May in the apple isle, there might be more travel schemes announced — or at least the promise of them.
NORTHERN TERRITORY: Territory Tourism Voucher
The NT’s Territory Tourism Voucher has offered a dollar-for-dollar incentive up to $200. (Image: Litchfield National Park/Sarah Mackie)
Status: Round Three Active
The Northern Territory has offered three rounds of travel incentives worth over $16 million since July 2020, valid for any Territorian over the age of 18. The voucher system works on a dollar-for-dollar incentive up to $200. So if you book a $400 experience, you’ll receive a maximum of $200 off.
Participants must register online, with vouchers issued on a first-come, first serve basis. Vouchers must be booked and paid through visitor centres, they must be spent in one transaction, and must be booked within 14 days of the voucher being issued on either tours, attractions, accommodation or car hire. Travel must be completed by 30th April.
Round three also has a bonus round, where if you are booking a product through one of the four visitor information centres, and the experience or product is more than 400 kilometres away from your home, you can be reimbursed an amount ranging from $1 to $200. This is only reimbursed if you show evidence and claim it within seven days of travel. You can check your eligibility here.
WATCH OUT FOR:
The Federal government’s half price flight scheme , when prices and discounts are revealed online April 1st, 2021.

Our shout towards your next hotel stay - tourism vouchers to boost visitor economy
Travel vouchers worth up to $100 will be offered to South Australians to use towards accommodation across the state, as part of a significant tourism stimulus package to further boost the visitor economy and local jobs.
The Marshall Government’s $4 million voucher scheme – available from next month - will provide $100 vouchers for use at participating CBD hotels, and $50 vouchers to spend in regional and suburban accommodation.
A range of tourism operators from 5-star hotels to cabins in caravan parks have already signed-up to be part of the deal.
Premier Steven Marshall said the COVID-19 stimulus measure would provide a powerful ‘shot in the arm’ for our $7.8 billion visitor economy, and the more than 40,000 people it employs.
“This is a call to arms for South Australians to continue to back the local tourism industry by rewarding themselves with a guilt-free ‘staycation’ in one of our many excellent hotels or accommodation providers.”
“Every additional hotel night booked will result in positive flow-on benefits across the sector, as jobs – from front of house staff to chefs, cleaners and baristas - are supported.
“My Government is committed to supporting as many local jobs and businesses throughout the greatest economic challenge of our time, which is why we’ve committed $2 billion in economic stimulus so far.
“The tourism and hospitality industry is a significant local employer and we are pleased to be able to support them through this voucher scheme.”
Australian Hotels Association chief executive Ian Horne welcomed the new stimulus measure.
“Border closures and travel restrictions due to COVID-19 have resulted in a significant decrease in overnight stays in the city, the majority of which was made up by international visitation and corporate travel from the eastern states, so hotel operators have been really struggling,” Mr Horne said.
“Anything that is going to drive stays and visitation across the state is crucial, and giving consumers a big discount like this is going to encourage people to get out and about, and spending again.”
South Australian Tourism Commission chief executive Rodney Harrex said the voucher was a timely reward for South Australians who have had a tough time.
“We’re already hearing some incredible rates from CBD hotels who have signed up, that with our discount of $100 means South Australians will be able to stay in 5 star rooms in the city for prices they have never seen before,” he said.
Examples of hotels that have already signed up include the new Adelaide Oval Hotel and Crowne Plaza, Mayfair Hotel, Hilton Adelaide and the Middleton Beach Huts.
For more information for industry, see the frequently asked questions for vendors .
Participating accommodation providers – ranging from CBD internationally recognised five-star hotels through to cabins in caravan parks in regional SA – are in the process of registering for the campaign. Hotels in the city and North Adelaide will be $100 off per booking, and accommodation in the regions will feature a $50 reduction per booking (both programs exclude Saturdays). Only South Australian residents over the age of 18 can redeem the Great State voucher.
Consumers will be able to obtain a Great State voucher from Thursday 15 October 2020 at 9am until Saturday 31 October at 11.59pm unless the allocation is exhausted prior. Consumers can book their stay from Thursday 15 October until 31 October for travel between 15 October to 11 December 2020 inclusive. Saturday night stays in both the CBD, metro and regional areas are not included in the program.

South Australia Is Offering $100 Hotel Vouchers This Summer And That’s A 2021 Road Trip
David Adams
The government-run Great State Voucher scheme will return for another bout from January 5, offering $100 to folks looking to spend time in Adelaide or North Adelaide, and a pineapple to those seeking accomodation in suburban areas or SA’s beautiful regions.
In a statement obtained by The Advertiser , Premier Steven Marshall said the scheme would boost tourism over the warmer months.
“We know the summer holidays are traditionally a peak period for our tourism operators,” Marshall said, “and we are acting now to give travellers another incentive to visit our world-class regions and CBD.”
The eligible travel period spans January 7 to March 31, 2021. This means you could swing down for the Fringe Festival, or you could bliss out at WOMADelaide. You could even check out Scotty’s Motel, but I’m sure you could do that at any time of the year, really.
One caveat: the vouchers will not cover accommodation booked over Saturday nights. If you had just planned a smash-and-grab on the tables at SkyCity, or a hefty night at the Dog and Duck, I am not sure what to tell you.
This is the voucher scheme’s second round, with the first being offered exclusively to SA residents.
The Advertiser reports that particular batch of vouchers – worth an estimated $4 million – was fully exhausted in 90 minutes. That’s a pretty good indicator of the hype you can expect from this next round.
The voucher scheme follows similar efforts interstate, with NSW offering dining vouchers to prop up the hospitality industry , and Victoria’s own $200 holiday voucher program.
