Travelin' Man by Rick Nelson

travelling man song lyrics

  • I'm a travelin' man and I've made a lot of stops All over the world And in every port I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl I've a pretty señorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you're ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo Oh, my sweet Fraulein down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki And I held you, oh so tight Oh, my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki And I held you, oh so tight Oh, I'm a travelin' man Yes, I'm a travelin' man Yes, I'm a travelin' man Whoa, I'm a travelin' man Writer/s: Jerry Fuller Publisher: Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

  • Barry from Sauquoit, Ny Sixty years ago today in 1961 {May 29th} "Travelin' Man" by Ricky Nelson peaked at #1 {for 2 non-consecutive weeks} on Billboard's Top 100 chart... "Running Scared" by Roy Orbison replaced "Travelin' Man" at #1 for one week, then Ricky regained the top spot... One month later on June 25th, 1961, "Travelin' Man" also peaked at #1 {for 5 weeks} on the Australian Kent Music Report chart... Between 1957 and 1973 the Teaneck, New Jersey native had fifty-three songs make the Top 100 chart, seventeen made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, Poor Little Fool" for two weeks in July of 1958 and the above "Travelin' Man"... He just missed having two more #1 records when both his "Teenager's Romance" peaked at #2 for one week in June of 1957 and "Stood Up" peaked at #2 for three weeks in January of 1958... Ricky Nelson, born Eric Hilliard Nelson, passed away at the young age of 45 on December 31st, 1985... May he R.I.P. And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of Billboard's Top 10 on May 29th, 1961: At #2. "Daddy's Home" by Shep and the Limelites #3. "Running Scared" by Roy Orbison #4. "Mama Said" by The Shirelles #5. "Mother-In-Law" Ernie K-Doe {was the #1 record the previous week} #6. "Runaway" by Del Shannon #7. "Breakin' In A Brand New Broken Heart" by Connie Francis #8. "A Hundred Pounds of Clay" by Gene McDaniels #9. "I Feel So Bad" by Elvis Presley #10. "Tragedy" by The Fleetwoods
  • Alb from Texas The freebasing rumor was totally resolved by the FAA in their final report and as retracted by the Washington Post who originally printed the story without investigated it or validating. I travelled with Rick for the five years immediately preceding the crash, and I can assure you that Rick nor anyone in his band ever free based at any time. Stop continuing to spread this false rumor. Check out the FAA report and the wrongful death trials that followed. There is plenty of evidence what caused the fire and I can tell you first hand that illegal drug use or paraphernalia had nothing to do with the crash; only a crazy pilot that decided to try fixing a kerosene heater while in flight when his copilot refused to do so (because they were in flight). The only two survivors were the pilot and copilot, the copilot passed away from natural causes a few years ago and the pilot eventually lost his pilots license after the trial and FAA report.
  • Jennifur Sun from Ramona Pat I believe you. years ago when I was still living in San Diego county, where I grew up, I went to the (what was then called) The Del Mar Fair. my girl friend came along as well. Rickie was the headliner at the show that afternoon. GREAT SHOW. got his autograph just as he was leaving. sadly later on, after we had moved out of our old home, it got water damaged, along with a lot of other things, we didn't know where we had the stuff stored ,the roof was leaking.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, Ny A two-sided Top Ten record for Ricky; "Travelin' Man" stayed at #1 for two weeks while the flip-side "Hello Mary Lou" {penned by Gene Pitney} peaked at #9!!! {Billboard}
  • Pierre from Chelsea, Quebec, Canada Nelson, to my knowledge, recorded two live performances of that tremendous hit. The song got better and better every time. The most likely cause of the plane crash which took Rick's life was a defective cabin heater. A very fine singer, a superb voice : maybe the best of his era with Dion DiMucci. Pierre Cantin,Chelsea-upon-Gatineau
  • Andrew from Birmingham, United States So, this song is about Ricky Nelson traveling the world and exchanging hearts with thousands upon thousands of babes? He's lucky to have so many babes attracted to him. But what's he doing juggling so many women? Is he trying to become the next King Solomon? Or is he playing "leap frog" because so many relationships aren't working out? One of my closest friends is doing that. I won't name any names.
  • Sara from Greenville, Al To David from Witchita, It was his fiancee, not yet his wife that was with him.
  • Pat from Indianapolis, In In the 80?s my brother and I had a computer store in Indianapolis, IN. Twice a year Chicago and Vegas hosted the Consumer Electric Show. We went to the summer CES in Chicago in ?85. One of our distributors had a 50?s show where they the ?Oldies? came in to entertain. The ?one and only ?Rick Nelson gave a show and half. He saw I was taking pictures of him as he sang. He actually ?posed? as he performed and looked in my camera so I could get the ?best? pic of him. Now I don?t know if other singers would take the time to allow a ?rookie? photographer take his pic and pose while he is singing >>>>BUT HE DID. That is why he is on the ?Top Shelf ?in my view. It is true the ?Good? die young. The good news is he will live on in video and song and in our ?hearts?. And who could want more than that?
  • David from Wichita, Ks Nelson his band and his wife were in a DC-3 that crashed. Its not the size of a 747 but its not a small aircraft either. It is an airliner-1930's style.
  • Jonnie from St. Louis, Mo About Jerry Fuller: He was a prolific writer and producer. Besides 'Travelin' Man' he wrote "Young World" for Rick and also produced O.C. Smith and The Union Gap. For the Union Gap he also wrote: "Young Girl", "Lady Willpower" and "Over You".
  • Jonnie from St. Louis, Mo "Travelin' Man" was written by Jerry Fuller. There was a park close to where his wife worked, and everyday when he went to pick her up he'd take his guitar, sit in the park and write songs while he waited for her. He'd been thinking about writing a song about a man who traveled all over the world and one day took a World Atlas along with him to go over the countries in it. The song was written in about 20 minutes. And, yes, it was first offered to Sam Cooke's manager but he turned it down. Rick's bass player, Joe Osborne, had been in the next room of the record company and heard it. He asked Cooke's manager if he could hear it again, and the man said: "Here, you can have it." It was one of Rick's biggest hits and stayed on the Charts for 4 months.
  • Garry from Anchorage, Ak Contrast Ozzie's family of the 1950's with Ozzie's family of the 2000's (The Osbournes). Whoa!
  • Victor from Haworth, England In the UK, the song was the B-side to his biggest hit, Helloh Mary Lou. Travellin' Man had been offered to Sam Cooke but he turned it down - Ricky recognised a good song and snapped it up!

113 Best Lyrics From Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets Department For Instagram Captions

From heartbreak to vacations, Swift’s new album has every mood covered.

113 Best Lyrics From Taylor Swift's "Tortured Poets" For Instagram Captions

Taylor Swift’s lyrics dominated Instagram in 2023, with every Swiftie who was lucky enough to snatch Eras Tour tickets using the singer’s famous words as captions for their social media posts . But if you thought the Taylor-mania might die down in 2024, think again.

Not only did Swift release her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department , at midnight on April 19, but she unveiled that it was a secret double album, giving fans an astounding 31 new songs in total. This means there’s now an almost endless treasure trove of new lyrics and Swift-ian poetry available for your Instagram purposes.

If you’re going through a devastating breakup, or just feeling sad, then Tortured Poets is the first source to look to for Instagram inspiration, with songs like “Down Bad” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” that can represent whatever stage of grief you’re in.

However, with 31 songs, there’s a Swift lyric for every mood on the album. If you’re hard-launching a new beau, look to “Fresh Out the Slammer” or “The Alchemy,” while “So Long, London” and “Florida!!!” would oddly be fitting for vacation posts (especially if you’re heading to see the Eras Tour in those locales).

Dickey Betts on writing ‘Ramblin' Man’ and more Allman Brothers Band hit songs

In honor of rock legend and sarasota resident dickey betts, who died april 18, we revisit interviews we conducted with him about writing of some of the allman brothers band's biggest hit songs..

travelling man song lyrics

A bunch of wildly talented Florida boys, including Dickey Betts , the guitar-wielding hellion from Bradenton, formed the Allman Brothers Band in Jacksonville in 1969. They were rock stars in the ’70s, nearly became a rock footnote in the ’80s, and then rose again in the ’90s en route to their rightful place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

On Thursday, April 18, Betts passed away peacefully , surrounded by loved ones, in Sarasota County, just off the Highway 41 he sings about in the Allman Brothers’ best-known song. In honor of Betts, I revisited the interview we did in 2020 about the real Allman Brothers stories behind the film “Almost Famous, ” as well as past ones, including our lengthy conversation from 2014 that took place in Betts’ den over glasses of what he called “hippie wine.”

One of these days, I hope to present all of the great quotes Betts gave me during the past decade-plus as one (very) long Q&A. For now, let’s take a look at Betts talking about five of the songs that were crucial in the Allman Brothers’ rise to stardom and the start of the Southern rock movement. They also happen to be five of my all-time favorite songs. Dickey Betts will be greatly missed, by myself and millions of fans around the world.

‘Revival’ from ‘Idlewild South’ (1970)

Betts’ first writing credit for the Allman Brothers finds the band at their blissful best, with an ebullient melody and lyrics to match (“love is everywhere,” goes the chorus). Featuring the twin lead guitar beauty of Betts and Duane Allman, with Gregg Allman on lead vocals, “Revival” became the first Allman Brothers song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The band rarely performed the song in concert upon its release but welcomed “Revival” back after reforming in 1990. A fine version, again featuring Gregg Allman on lead vocals and with Betts now sharing lead guitar duties with Warren Haynes, can be heard on the ’92 live album “An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: First Set.”

Betts:  “I think with my dad being a fiddle player I kind of naturally liked the uplifting aspects of music. But I was in a band with Gregg Allman, who is basically a melancholy kind of writer, the beautiful melancholy that Gregg would come with. So, I’m looking at what we have here and I’m thinking how do you balance this out? I don’t want to write a song that makes you want to go hang yourself in the bathroom. So, I would really make an effort to write more  up  songs, to balance the band out. That kind of influenced the way I wrote.”

‘In Memory of Elizabeth Reed’ from ‘At Fillmore East’ (1971)

“This song Dickey Betts wrote from our second album, ‘In Memory of Elizabeth Reed,’” Duane Allman announces on the band’s landmark live album “At Fillmore East,” before Betts starts bending his guitar strings to sound like enchanting violins. The original studio recording of Betts’ masterful instrumental appears in a truncated form on “Idlewild South,” clocking in at just under seven minutes. This version on “At Fillmore East” clocks in at nearly twice that, and Betts would continue to explore the composition — often approaching 20 minutes, with one of his solo band’s live recordings from 1974 topping 40 minutes — throughout his career.

With the Allman Brothers, Betts reinvented the song as a more meditative jazz rendition on tour in ’73 while acting as the sole guitarist and sharing lead playing with keyboardist Chuck Leavell (captured on “Wipe the Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas”). Nearly two decades later, Betts offered a delicate acoustic rendition with accompaniment by co-lead guitarist Haynes for a performance included on the 1995 live album “An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: 2nd Set.”

Betts:  “Duane and I had an understanding, like an old soul kind of understanding, of let’s play together. Duane would say, ‘Man, I get so jealous of you sometimes when you burn (a guitar solo) off and I have to follow it,’ and we would joke about it. So that’s kind of Duane and mine’s relationship. It was a real understanding. Like, ‘Come on, this is a helluva band, let’s not hotdog it up’ and that was our understanding, and it was an understanding from previous years of experience. That’s kind of amateur s---, you know, when you start trying to upstage everybody? That was kind of the way the thing built momentum. And then I wrote ‘Elizabeth Reed’ and instead of Duane being jealous of it he said, ‘That is the greatest thing, man.’"

“(When composing ‘In Memory of Elizabeth Reed’) I was thinking of Benny Goodman. I was thinking of how he used melody and then I got all these Western swing influences from my buddy Dave Liles, who passed away about four years ago. But the thing came about, see, I was dating, I was slipping around, back-dooring Boz Scaggs’ girlfriend, live-in girlfriend, they weren’t married, but (laughs). She was a beautiful Italian girl. I wrote this song and I wanted to call it ‘Carmella’ but couldn’t. So the place we would meet, in this old 1800s graveyard, Rose Hill, there was this old tombstone that said on it ‘In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.’

"What I love about that song is if you have a bunch of top-shelf players, they can express themselves beautifully in that song, once they learn it. I don’t have a favorite version but my least favorite is the studio version that we did. It was real stock and we cut it real short.”

‘Blue Sky’ from ‘Eat a Peach’ (1972)

The first Allman Brothers song to feature Betts on lead vocals, “Blue Sky,” is also one of the final recordings made by Duane Allman before his death in a motorcycle accident. Betts and Allman alternate on lead guitar and then share the sweet, country-influenced melody lines. Joan Baez included a version of the song on her hit 1975 album “Diamonds & Rust” and a live version by the Allman Brothers would finally be officially released as part of their ’92 live disc “An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: First Set.” In 2003, the Allman Brothers released the outstanding retrospective live album “S.U.N.Y. at Stonybrook: Stonybrook, NY 9/19/71.” It contains an 11-minute rendition of “Blue Sky” with Betts sharing lead guitar with Duane Allman, and Gregg Allman clearly heard backing Betts on vocals. Following the death of Jerry Garcia, Betts started opening “Blue Sky” with an homage to the Garcia-composed Grateful Dead song “Franklin’s Tower.”

Betts:  “I guess from listening to The Dead every now and then I remembered the riff and it was a good way to set the tone for that song. The band, the drummers especially, tended to get too fast and kind of play too much like ‘Johnny B. Goode’ or something. And I was trying to get that real, like, loping feeling to it, so I started doing ‘Franklin’s Tower’ in front of it to kind of set the tone for it.

“(Blue Sky) is a cool song. I wrote that for, I was married to an Indian girl whose last name was Wabegijig, which means ‘clear blue sky,’ so I was writing it for her and I was writing it as, ‘She’s my blue sky, she’s my sunny day’ (Betts sings). And I thought, nah, this would be a better song if I just sang it to the sky instead of to a woman. That was a very good move that could make or break that song. It made it more universal. If you’re a songwriter, that’s not a big jump. In fact, in ‘Ramblin’ Man,’ the original line to that was, ‘Playing my music and doing the best I can.’ Everybody doesn’t play music, but everybody works for a living.

“I sang some with (my previous band) Second Coming but I never saw myself as a singer and still don’t. I sing because it’s necessary (laughs). I asked Gregg to sing ‘Blue Sky’ and actually the producer, Tom Dowd, he said, ‘No, why don’t you sing it.’”

‘Jessica’ from ‘Brothers and Sisters’ (1973)

A positively joyful musical statement, “Jessica” is the rare instrumental to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 (at No. 65). Originally clocking in at seven minutes-plus with a four-minute single version, a brilliant, 16-minute live rendition Betts worked up for the Allman Brothers’ album “An Evening with the Allman Brothers Band: 2nd Set,” would win a Grammy in 1996 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

Another favorite of mine is the rowdy rendition with co-lead guitarist “Dangerous” Dan Toler (and his sibling David “Frankie” Toler on drums) captured on the Dickey Betts and Great Southern live album “Southern Jam: New York 1978.” It’s “Jessica” as a speeding locomotive with a “Southbound” detour in the middle. Betts has a blast with the lusty traveling man lyrics (originally penned for Gregg Allman to sing) before returning to a fabulously frantic “Jessica.”

Betts:  “I was in a room like this (his den in Sarasota County) but it wasn’t as extravagantly furnished. It was a rented apartment, I had been writing for ‘Brothers and Sisters,’ and it was not clean or anything. I’m in there trying to write and Jessica, my daughter, she was like a year and a half, two years old, she comes crawling in the room and I started playing to her and I was thinking of Django Reinhardt, and that’s the way it came out.”

‘Ramblin’ Man’ from ‘Brothers and Sisters’ (1973)

A charming country rocker with a top-shelf guitar hook and singalong chorus, “Ramblin’ Man,” from the Allman Brothers’ blockbuster 1973 “Brothers and Sisters” album, reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 1 on the Cashbox Top 100 and remains the lone Allman Brothers single to crack the Top 10 on either pop chart.

Fellow Floridian Gary Stewart would record a version of “Ramblin’ Man” for his debut single in ’73 and it reached No. 63 on the country chart, paving the way for a string of much bigger hits for Stewart in the ’70s. “Ramblin’ Man” would appear on numerous live Allman Brothers and solo Betts albums over the years including The Dickey Betts Band’s 2019 release  “Ramblin’ Man Live at the St. George Theatre.”

Betts:  “I was going to send ‘Ramblin’ Man’ to Johnny Cash. This was when Johnny Cash was really vital in his younger days. I thought it was a great song for him. But everybody liked that song. Even my dad liked the song, before we recorded it or anything. And I’m thinking I’m going to send this to Johnny Cash and see if he wanted to do it. The producer (Johnny Sandlin) said we needed another song for the record and asked if I had anything. I said, ‘Well, I got one but I was going to send it to Nashville for Cash to record.’ He said, ‘Let’s hear it.’ And then, ‘No! we gotta do that.’

“What pissed me off, though, I still got my feathers up about it, is the producer sped it up. He didn’t think we had the tempo up enough so he sped it up, which makes my voice sound (sings ‘Lord, I was born’) you know, they speed something up, your voice goes up. But it was a hit. But it was not the way we cut it. I cut it just a little bit slower and my voice sounds more like this. I heard it and thought that doesn’t sound quite like my voice. Then I found out later they sped it up. I said, ‘You son of a bitch’ (laughs). But they do that (stuff) to you.”

Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” is here — so let the lyric breakdown begin.

In her highly anticipated 11th studio album, Swift dropped 17 tracks at midnight Friday, and then surprised fans with an extra 15 — making it a secret double album. And she didn’t waste any time getting personal on the first single, “Fortnight.”

“I was supposed to be sent away/ But they forgot to come and get me,” she sings. “I was a functioning alcoholic ’til nobody noticed my new aesthetic.”

travelling man song lyrics

“All my mornings are Mondays stuck in an endless February/ I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary,” she goes on. “And I love you, it’s ruining my life/ I love you, it’s ruining my life.”

It’s unknown if Swift was just taking creative liberties with her songwriting with the lyrics.

The 34-year-old musician cut out alcohol before she embarked on her Eras Tour, which she kicked off following her split from ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn.

Taylor Swift surprised fans by dropping a secret double album on Friday.

“I knew this tour was harder than anything I’d ever done before by a long shot,” Swift told Time magazine for her 2023 Person of the Year cover. She previously trained “like a frat guy,” but this time trained six months ahead of the first show.

“Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud. Fast for fast songs, and a jog or a fast walk for slow songs,” she said. “Then I had three months of dance training, because I wanted to get it in my bones. I wanted to be so over-rehearsed that I could be silly with the fans, and not lose my train of thought.”

Taylor Swift's "Fortnight" music video will debut at 8 p.m ET on Friday.

The only time she drank during her tour was at the 2023 Grammys, where she was filmed dancing and singing to Demi Lovato performing. “Doing that show with a hangover, I don’t want to know that world,” she added.

Here's what to know about Taylor Swift's new album 'The Tortured Poets Department':

  • The 14-time Grammy winner released her highly anticipated 11th studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” on Friday.
  • Swift sent her fans into a frenzy at 2 a.m. after revealing the record is a double album . Titled “The Anthology,” Swift’s late-night surprise includes 15 bonus tracks, bringing the total song count to a whopping 31.
  • Swift initially unveiled her 16-song album at midnight, including collaborations with Post Malone and Florence Welch on two tracks. There are also four bonus tracks, “The Manuscript,” “The Bolter,” “The Albatross,” and “The Black Dog” that are featured on various vinyl versions of the album. The four tracks, as well as 11 new songs, are included in “The Anthology.”
  • A poem about heartbreak that serves as a prologue for the album was written by Fleetwood Mac alum Stevie Nicks .
  • There are several celeb names peppered throughout the album’s lyrics, the mention of singer Charlie Puth’s name took some Swifties by surprise.
  • While some of Swift’s exes aren’t spared on “TTPD,” the singer, 34, does seemingly reference her current beau Travis Kelce on the new album’s track “The Alchemy” in a loving way.
  • As for her exes, 1975 frontman Matty Healy is reportedly referenced throughout the 31-song-strong record . In fact, Healy — who, before their summer split, was a rebound romance for the pop superstar following her breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn after six years —  appears to be the subject of the vicious takedown  “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Other fans, however, may speculate the “sparkling summer” line is about Alwyn. There are also hints that “I Can Fix Him” (No Really I Can)” — gotta love that title — might be about 35-year-old Healy.
  • As for Alwyn, Swift dropped hints at the pair’s ill-fated 6-year romance for a good — or for him, not so good — part of the album. Check out the 10 Alwyn-related references we’ve spotted.

  • Shop special-edition vinyls of Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” at Target.

The “Midnights” singer has since been photographed on multiple occasions with a drink in hand, notably when attending boyfriend Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs football games, celebrating his Super Bowl win and while traveling with the athlete, 34, in the Bahamas last month.

Swift collaborates with Post Malone on “Fortnight.” The music video for the track debuts at 8 p.m. ET on Friday.

“I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever,” she wrote via Instagram this week. “I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight.”

Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift at an event together.

Taylor Swift dated actor Joe Alwyn for six years but the pair broke up in 2023. It now appears that her ex-boyfriend key subject in her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.

Taylor’s new album was released today and with news that some fans are booking days off work to listen to the 31 tracks in the album, its safe to say it’s a pretty big deal.

In the new record, the songwriter, 34, has taken aim at her exes Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy as the singer’s lyrics point to specific incidents that caused the breakdown of these relationships.

When did Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift start dating?

Joe, 33, and Taylor began dating in October 2016 when she was 28 and he was 26. The pair apparently met at the Met Gala , just a few months after the Lover singer dated Tom Hiddleston.

There were several engagement rumours throughout their six year relationship but the pair remained tight-lipped. Joe once told the Wall Street Journal : ‘If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.’

Taylor’s new lyrics hint at commitment issues may have been a catalyst in their break up in April 2023 as she sings about the various issues in their relationship.

Joe Alwyn

Where is Joe Alwyn now?

Joe Alwyn has kept a low profile since his split from Taylor, waiting until November – seven months after their April 2023 break-up – to make his first big public appearance at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London.

Joe is an actor and has notably appeared in movies: The Favourite, Boy Erased, and Mary Queen of Scots . He has also has appeared in the Sally Rooney BBC series Conversations with Friends .

Joe Alwyn

The actor has some films coming up, one named Kinds of Kindness from Poor Things director, Yorgos Lanthimos. The film is set to be released this year and Joe will star opposite Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Hunter Schafer and Willem Defoe.

His other upcoming films, The Brutalist and Hamlet, have yet to have confirmed release dates.

As a private person, his social media has not revealed much about his current whereabouts but suggests that he has spent time abroad and travelling since their breakup.

What Taylor Swift songs are about Joe Alwyn?

In Taylor’s new album, it’s thought that So Long, London is about Joe who she previously called her London Boy in her Lover album. The lyrics read: ‘You swore that you loved, me but where were the clues, I died on the altar waiting for the proof.’

Fans believe Taylor’s new song, How did it End? also refers to Joe as she is left reeling after a long relationship and confused about how it all came to fall apart.

The lyrics for this song read: ‘Say it once again with feeling/ How the death rattle breathing/ Silenced as the soul was leaving/ The deflation of our dreaming/ Leaving me bereft and reeling/ My beloved ghost and me/ Sitting in a tree/ D-Y-I-N-G.’

Joe Alwyn

Fans have also speculated that; My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, loml, and The Black Dog are about Joe. In these songs, Taylor sings about being let down but someone you trust and being let down.

Her album title, The Tortured Poets Department is also theorised to be a reference to Joe’s group chat with Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott called Tortured Man Club.

While dating Taylor, Joe also received some song-writing credits on her albums; Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. It has been speculated by fans that various songs on these albums were inspired by him as Taylor was in a relationship with him at the time.

Does Joe Alwyn have a new girlfriend?

It is unclear if Joe is currently dating anyone as he is notoriously private – something that is referenced in several of Taylor’s new songs as she reflects on the secretive nature of their relationship.

Joe Alwyn and Alison Oliver

It was speculated that Joe was dating Alison Oliver, 26 , who he starred opposite in Conversations with Friends. Although the Saltburn actress may have played his lover in the series, it has never been confirmed that they are in a relationship.

Similarly, there have been rumours about a link between Joe and his co-star, Emma Laird, 25, in The Brutalist.

The actress shared photos of Joe on her social media when they worked together, sparking romance rumours.

Taylor Swift reveals 'secret' double album in '2am surprise' - including track inspired by boyfriend Travis Kelce

Swift announced details of the record in February this year when she won a Grammy and the album features a bumper 31 songs spilling over two hours.

Taylor Swift has revealed her latest release is a "secret double album" - with 15 more tracks than fans were expecting.

In a 2am surprise (around 7am UK time), the 34-year-old announced on social media that The Tortured Poets Department includes a second instalment.

She wrote: "It's a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I'd written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here's the second instalment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn't mine anymore… it's all yours."

Update: What do her new lyrics mean?

It's the superstar's 11th studio album and features a bumper 31 songs spilling over two hours.

Swift announced details of the record in February this year when she won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights.

At the time, she revealed the new album includes collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + The Machine who feature respectively on the tracks Fortnight and Florida!!!.

Swift is believed to have included songs about her break-ups with British actor Joe Alwyn and The 1975 star Matty Healy in the album, while a song full of American football references is thought to be inspired by her latest romance with NFL star Travis Kelce.

The 15th track, The Alchemy, appears to be a nod to her relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs star with references to American football terms including the team, warm benches, winning streak, and trophy, and also features the line: "So when I touch down, call the amateurs and cut 'em from the team."

She began dating the athlete last year and her attendance at the Super Bowl made headlines around the world, including that kiss with Kelce after the Chiefs' victory.

Kelce, who has recently landed a role as host of the game show Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?, said he listened to parts of the album and said it's "unbelievable".

So Long, London is number five in the tracklist - the slot reserved for the most meaningful song on each of Swift's albums - and is thought to offer new insight into her split with The Favourite actor Alwyn after six years together.

In the lyrics, Swift hints at wedding plans, singing: "You swore that you loved me but where were the clues, I died on the altar waiting for the proof" - as well as being upset at having to leave London which she said she "loved".

The very title of the album may be referring to a WhatsApp group Alwyn previously set up with fellow actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, called The Tortured Man Club.

On Healy - who Swift dated for a few weeks last year after her split with Alwyn - several songs seem to reference him, including on Guilty As Sin, where she sings about having "fatal fantasies" for someone from her past while in a relationship.

travelling man song lyrics

Writing songs about past old flames is nothing new for Swift including Joe Jonas (Mr Perfectly Fine), Harry Styles (Style), Jake Gyllenhaal (All Too Well) and John Mayer (Dear John).

The singer posted the significance of the album on X as a flurry of fans commented their love for it.

Swift wrote: "The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time - one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.

"This period of the author's life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.

"This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it. And then all that's left behind is the tortured poetry."
