About Uniworld Boutique River Cruises

Uniworld—the world’s best and most awarded luxury river cruise line—offers itineraries in spectacular destinations throughout Europe, Egypt, Asia, and Peru. Our fleet features luxurious ships with an average capacity of 120 guests, one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the river cruise industry, enticing shore excursions, world-class gourmet cuisine, impeccable hospitality, and the highest degree of all-inclusive benefits on the rivers.

The Highest Standards in Luxury River Cruising

In 2004, Uniworld was acquired by The Travel Corporation (TTC), a highly successful international travel group founded by Stanley Tollman. TTC has 40 top brands, including Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, and Contiki, as well as Red Carnation Hotels, a renowned collection of four- and five-star luxury properties.

Combining the tour planning and hotel management expertise of TTC’s sister companies with Uniworld’s decades of superior nautical experience has created an entirely new category of luxury river cruising. Together, we’ve made major investments in our ships, crew, and staff, with an eye towards providing guests with all the elements of an unforgettable experience: Outstanding Service; The Most All-Inclusive Amenities; One-of-a-Kind Ships; Carefully Curated Experiences; Culinary Excellence; Wellness; and a Commitment to Sustainability.

The Boutique Experience, Onboard & Onshore

The guiding visionary behind our boutique philosophy is Beatrice “Bea” Tollman, founder of Red Carnation Hotels. Bea was named Hotelier of the Year at the European Hospitality Awards in 2012 and was inducted into The British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame in 2019.

Bea and her creative team amplify the definition of boutique luxury with every new and updated ship. Our river cruises allow guests to travel from one exciting destination to the next aboard a stylish floating hotel with chic lounges, panoramic restaurants, sumptuous cuisine, exquisite antiques, original art, and luxurious riverview staterooms and suites. Meticulous attention to detail is readily apparent on every company-designed ship, including 12 members of Uniworld’s stunning Super Ship fleet—the S.S. Antoinette , S.S. Beatrice , S.S. Victoria , S.S. Elisabeth , and S.S. Maria Theresa in Central Europe; the S.S. Catherine , S.S. Joie de Vivre , and S.S. Bon Voyage in France; the S.S. La Venezia in Italy; the S.S. São Gabriel in Portugal; the S.S. Sphinx in Egypt, and the Mekong Jewel in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Grand France

France Indulgent from first to last

France is the quintessential destination for good reason. Whether you visit romantic Northern France, stunning Bordeaux, or charming Burgundy & Provence, you’ll find yourself enchanted by the best wines and cuisines the world has to offer. Come for the famous Château wineries of Bordeaux and cultural landmarks of Paris, then leave reminiscing about your stroll through Monet’s Giverny gardens and your kayak ride under the Pont du Gard.

Paris, France

Whether it be arts and culture, politics, philosophy, or science, France has found itself at the center of international conversation for centuries. You’ll find monuments to the country’s role in history everywhere you look: the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Normandy Beaches, Avignon’s Palace of the Popes, or the Médoc wine route, occupied by so many of the world’s greatest château wineries. The list goes on, so rest assured that there is a bucket list experience for every kind of traveler.

Farmers market in France lifestyle

If you have a passion for great food, French cuisine will not disappoint. Regional differences abound, but at the core of French cooking is a passion for quality, local ingredients. It starts at small farms, of which there are many in the French countryside, where you might find flavorful herbs being grown or fresh milk being made into one of over 400 different varieties of cheeses. Then in the kitchens, it’s all about the craft: a perfectly roasted chicken, ultra-thin layers of pastry folded throughout with butter for a melt-in-your-mouth croissant, or a prime cut of brisket slowly braised for hours in a nice Burgundy red.

Bordeaux, France

Widely considered the world’s best destination for wine, France is full of distinct wine regions, many of which are highly celebrated in their own rights. One of the finest of all: Bordeaux. Our Brilliant Bordeaux itinerary takes a deep dive into the wine culture here, giving guests endless opportunities to enjoy the artful red blends, sweet sauternes, and more produced here.

Burgundy has the highest number of unique AOC designations of any region in France, in large part due to the highly specific attention paid to the terroir of its vineyards. The most popular varietals grown here? Pinot noir and chardonnay.

While you’ll have no trouble finding truly excellent red and white wines produced from the syrah, cabernet sauvignon, and grenache (both noir and blanc) growing in the vineyards of Provence, another drink reigns supreme here. Ranging from bright pink to a subtle blush, rosé is as good as water in this region. During the warmer months, a chilled glass of rosé becomes the ultimate summer drink.

Les Andelys, France

You’ll witness a range of idyllic landscapes on your French river cruise with Uniworld. Lush green valleys, thick forests, neatly manicured vineyards, and villages carved straight into rocky hilltops—picture-perfect scenes await around every river bend.

TRAVEL TIPS

When to go: We sail all of our French cruises between the months of March and November for the best weather. Visit in the spring for fresh blooms and cooler weather, in the summer for sunshine and vibrant greenery, or in the fall for harvest season.

How to pack: We suggest comfortable, sporty, smart-casual daywear both onshore and onboard. Depending on your travel season, the weather can range from cool to quite hot. Check the weather before you go and pack accordingly. Layering clothing items is always your best bet, allowing you to adjust to most temperatures. Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) in case of rain, though we will also have umbrellas onboard. You may participate in a significant amount of walking over uneven terrain during your time ashore, so please bring comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support. Sturdy sandals are another good option.

Zaandam, Netherlands

The Netherlands Uniquely treasured heritage

The Netherlands is known for its picturesque landscapes, vibrant cities, and rich cultural heritage. The country offers breathtaking scenery that attracts tourists from around the world, from the iconic windmills dotting sweeping green fields to extensive canal networks. The Dutch countryside is filled with small farms famous for their colorful tulip fields and cheeses, making a visit to meet a local farmer a delightful way to experience the country’s heritage. Whether you're exploring charming villages, cycling along scenic routes, or indulging in Dutch delicacies, the Netherlands has something to offer every traveler.

Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

Boasting a wealth of iconic landmarks, the Netherlands is filled with history and architectural elements. The historic windmills of Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcase the country's age-old mastery of water management. The Anne Frank House stands as a poignant reminder of the impact of the Holocaust. And several world-class art museums, including the renowned Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis, speak to the region’s impressive art history.

Stroopwafels

Dutch cuisine is diverse and reflects the country's rich culinary traditions. Traditional Dutch meals often feature hearty ingredients like potatoes, meat, and vegetables, with "stampot" being a classic comfort food made from mashed potatoes and various vegetables, served with sausages or meatballs. One of the most iconic Dutch dishes is "stroopwafels," thin waffle-like cookies filled with sweet syrup, generally enjoyed as a snack or dessert. Herring, often served raw with onions and pickles, is a popular street food and a must-try for seafood enthusiasts. Dutch cheeses such as Gouda and Emal are famous worldwide for their quality and flavor.

Dutch Beer

Beer holds a significant place in Dutch culture, and the Netherlands boasts a long history of brewing. Dutch beers are known for their quality and diversity, making them a beloved beverage choice for locals and visitors alike. In addition to famous brands like Heineken, the Netherlands is home to numerous craft breweries that offer a wide range of unique and flavorful beers. Dutch craft brewers often experiment with ingredients and brewing techniques, producing everything from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts. Beer enthusiasts can explore a growing craft beer scene in cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Rotterdam, where they can enjoy tastings at local breweries and cozy pubs.

Dutch Pottery

Dating back to the 16th century, pottery is deeply rooted in Dutch history. Various forms of the craft have taken root in the Netherlands, inspired by international styles from Italian to Chinese. The most famous Dutch pottery, however, is Delftware. The characteristic style got its start in the 17th century with the artisans of Delft, and traditionally features intricate patterns of blue on white ceramic.

TRAVEL TIPS

When to go: There is truly no bad time of year to visit the Netherlands. A spring trip is perhaps the most iconic, for the chance to see the tulips in bloom. Summer offers warmer weather, while the fall boasts less rain and lower crowds. Winter might be the most unique time to go, with crowds at their lowest and a festive holiday atmosphere.

How to pack: We suggest comfortable, sporty, smart-casual daywear both onshore and onboard. Depending on your travel season, the weather can range from cool to warm. Check the weather before you go and pack accordingly. Layering clothing items is always your best bet, allowing you to adjust to most temperatures. Pack a lightweight waterproof jacket (preferably hooded) in case of rain, though we will also have umbrellas onboard. Cruise Passenger Ticket Contract

Important Terms and Conditions of this Passenger Ticket Contract (the “Contract”) are Contained Below.

PASSENGER HEREBY ACCEPTS AND AGREES TO THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CONTAINED IN THIS CONTRACT.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PASSENGERS:  This contract is a legally binding contract between Passenger (as defined below) and Company (as defined below). This contract contains certain limitations of liability, including limitations respecting injury to or death of passenger and damage claims relating to baggage. Certain other persons and entities, as well as the vessel itself, are also granted rights under this ticket contract. Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully. By accepting this contract and boarding the vessel, Passenger agrees to accept and to be bound by all of the Terms and Conditions hereof, including specifically those regarding Passenger’s right to sue, governing law, forum and jurisdiction.

NOTICE : Sections 5, 6, 9, 10, 12 and 14 contain important limitations on passenger’s right to assert claims against company and certain third parties.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS CONTRACT:  The following Terms and Conditions are the entire agreement between Company and Passenger. This is a binding contract. Company enters into contracts of carriage, issues all Contracts, and accepts and carries Passenger and Baggage only on and subject to these Terms and Conditions. This Contract is an agreement between Passenger and Company, and their respective agents, servants and employees. Specifically, the limitations of liability contained herein are applicable to claims against all parties listed in the definition of “Company.”

1. DEFINITIONS:

“Baggage”  means all such Passenger baggage allowed on the Vessel pursuant to the terms of this Contract which is placed in Passenger’s stateroom, or which has been stored in the Vessel’s baggage room, holds or safe against receipt therefore at the request of Passenger.

“Company”  means Uniworld River Cruises BV, Uniworld River Cruises, SA, GRC Global River Cruises Holding AG, and its and their owners, operators and charterers, all affiliated companies including, but not limited to, parent and or subsidiary entities and sales representatives and all employees of such individuals and companies.

“Conventions”  means the Athens Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and Their Luggage by Sea, 1974, the International Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976, and, where applicable, the Strasbourg Convention on the Limitation of Liability in Inland Navigation, 2012.

“Passenger”  means every person named on the face of this Contract and/or traveling under this Contract or occupying the stateroom designated on this Contract, including their heirs, successors in interest and personal representatives.

“Vessel”  means any ship chartered or operated or provided by Company, whether owned, chartered, or operated by Company or by third parties, on which Passenger may be traveling, or any ship substituted therefore, and its tenders or any other similar means of conveyance.

2. NON-TRANSFERABILITY/BINDING EFFECT : This Contract is valid only for Passenger or Passengers named herein for the date and Vessel indicated. It may not be sold or transferred. The terms and conditions of this Contract are binding on, and confer benefits to Passenger, Passenger’s spouse, heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, dependents and next of kin. Passenger represents and warrants that s/he is duly authorized by and on behalf of all Passengers (including minor children) named on this Contract to agree to and to bind all such Passengers to such terms and conditions.

3. EMBARKATION:  Passenger is required to be on board the Vessel at least one hour before the initial scheduled departure time and any departure time subsequently announced during the cruise. At the time of embarkation Passenger is responsible for having received all medical inoculations necessary for the voyage and having in his/her possession this Contract, valid passport, visas, medical card and other documents necessary for scheduled ports of call and disembarkations. Company shall have no liability to Passenger whatsoever if Passenger is not on board prior to the Vessel’s departure.

4. BAGGAGE, VALUABLES AND OTHER POSSESSIONS : Due to space limitations, each Passenger may bring aboard the Vessel one (1) suitcase and (1) carry-on without charge (additional baggage will be subject to an excess baggage charge). All Baggage must be securely packed and distinctly labeled with Passenger’s full name, the name of the Vessel, and the stateroom number of Passenger and the sailing date of the Vessel. Under no circumstances, may dangerous articles such as firearms, explosives, oxygen or combustible substances, alcohol, drugs, illegal substances, or dangerous goods be taken aboard the Vessel. Any such item shall be surrendered to the Captain of the Vessel at embarkation and may be disposed of in the sole discretion of the Captain. Pets and other animals are not allowed on board the Vessel. Hand or unlocked luggage, breakables and valuables, including but not limited to jewelry, money, precious stones, securities, financial instruments and/or tickets, must be hand-carried by Passengers on and off the Vessel, and may not be included with check-in Baggage. Company shall not be responsible for loss or damage to such items.

5. LIABILITY LIMITATIONS FOR LOSS OF AND/OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY:  The total value of the Baggage, valuables and other personal belongings of a Passenger aboard the Vessel who does not deposit valuables for safekeeping, as described in this Contract, shall be deemed not to exceed the amount of USD$200 per Passenger and Company’s liability, if any, for loss of or damage to such belongings is limited to a maximum of USD$200 per Passenger. Company provides safekeeping for valuables aboard the Vessel and encourages Passengers to deposit any jewelry or other valuables brought aboard the Vessel with the designated officer who will issue a receipt for such valuables. Company shall not be liable for any loss of or damage to money, jewelry, precious stones, securities, financial instruments, tickets or other valuables unless they have been delivered to the designated officer and a receipt issued. The value of articles delivered for safekeeping shall be deemed not to exceed USD$200 unless Company agrees in writing to a higher value for the articles at the time of delivery to the designated officer. Unless specifically provided elsewhere in this Contract, Company shall have no liability for loss or damage to Baggage or personal effects. Personal belongings lost while unattended in public lounges or other public areas, whether on board the Vessel or elsewhere, are not reimbursable. Losses due to ordinary wear and tear, perils of the sea, and other acts-of-God are not reimbursable. Settlements of reimbursable claims for lost belongings will be made on the basis of actual cash value (replacement cost less depreciation). Settlements of reimbursable claims for damaged items will be on the basis of cost of repair or actual cash value, whichever is less. No amount shall be paid in settlement of any claim without proof of the actual cash value or repair cost as appropriate arising from the loss or damage. Such proof must be sent to Company. Company liability must be proven before any settlement will be paid.

6. COMPANY’S LIABILITY/TIME LIMITS FOR PROPERTY DAMAGE AND PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS:

(a) The provisions and limitations of the Athens Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and Their Luggage by Sea, 1974 (the “Athens Convention”) and the International Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976 (the “1976 Convention”) are incorporated in this Contract. Where the terms of this Contract conflict with any applicable mandatory provision of law or international convention, including, where applicable, the Strasbourg Convention on the Limitation of Liability in Inland Navigation, 2012 (the “CLNI Convention”), the provisions of that law or convention prevail. Copies of applicable Conventions are available on request.

(b) Company shall be liable only in accordance with the provisions and limitations of the Athens Convention and the 1976 Convention. The Athens Convention and the 1976 Convention in most cases limit Company’s liability for death, personal injury, and lost or damaged property. The Athens Convention limits Company’s liability for death of or personal injury to a Passenger to no more than 46,666 Special Drawing Rights (as defined therein).

(c) The Athens Convention presumes that luggage has been delivered undamaged unless written notice is given to us: (i) in the case of apparent damage, before or at the time of disembarkation or re-delivery; or (ii) in the case of loss or non-apparent damage, within 15 days of the date of disembarkation or re-delivery or from the time when re-delivery should have taken place.

(d) Under the Athens Convention any action for damages arising out of personal injury, death, or lost or damaged luggage shall be time-barred after a period of two (2) years. The limitation period shall be calculated as follows: (i) in the case of personal injury, from the date of disembarkation of Passenger; (ii) in the case of death, from the date when Passenger should have disembarked or the date of death, whichever is later; (iii) in the case of lost or damaged luggage, from the date of disembarkation or from the date when disembarkation should have taken place, whichever is later.

(e) In no case shall an action be brought after the expiration of a period of three years from the date of disembarkation of Passenger or from the date when disembarkation should have taken place, whichever is later.

(f) Company shall not be liable for lost or damaged valuables, except where such valuables have been deposited with Company for the purpose of safe-keeping in which case Company shall be liable up to the limit provided for in the Conventions.

(g) Where any of the Conventions permit Company to apply a deductible, Company may apply that deductible.

(h) In the event it is determined that Company is not entitled to all of the benefits of the Conventions, including the limitations stated above, Passenger may not maintain a lawsuit against Company or the Vessel, nor will Company or the Vessel be liable, for loss of life or bodily injury unless written notice of the claim is delivered to Company not later than six (6) months after the day of death or injury, the lawsuit is commenced not later than one (1) year after the day of death or injury, and valid service of the lawsuit on Company or the Vessel, as applicable, is made within thirty (30) days following the expiration of that one-year period. For all other claims, including but not limited to claims for loss or damage to Baggage, breach of contract, or other claim, not governed by the Conventions, Passenger may not maintain a lawsuit against Company or the Vessel, unless Company is provided with written notice of claim within thirty (30) days after the date of disembarkation, the lawsuit for such claim is commenced not later than one-year after the date of disembarkation, and valid service of the lawsuit on the Vessel or Company, as applicable, is made within thirty (30) days following the expiration of that one year period. In the case of a claim by or on behalf of a minor or legally incompetent person, the time periods described above shall begin to run on the earlier of: (a) date of appointment of a legal representative for the minor or legally incompetent person, or their estate (as the case may be); or (b) three (3) years after the date of death, injury or damage, as applicable.

(i) Certain third parties derive rights and exemptions from liability as a result of the terms and conditions stated herein. All of Company’s rights, exemptions from liability, defenses and immunities under this Contract (including, but not limited to, those arising under this Section 6 or applicable law) inure to the benefit of Company’s employees and agents, together with the Vessel and the Vessel’s tenders, operators, managers, charterers, officers, staff, crew members, shipbuilders and manufacturers of all component parts. These third parties will have no liability to Passenger, either in contract or in tort, which is greater than or different from Company’s liability.

(j) If a written claim is not made and suit is not commenced within the times provided in this section 6, then passenger waives and releases any right s/he may have to make a claim against company for any such bodily injury, emotional distress or injury or death or loss.

7. ITINERARY/RIGHT TO CHANGE/DETENTION : Company will make every reasonable effort to undertake the advertised and any other agreed and offered sailings, but no sailings are guaranteed, and sailings may be altered, delayed, amended, or canceled subject to circumstances. If the performance of the proposed voyage is hindered or prevented (or in the opinion of Company is likely to be hindered or prevented) by war, hostilities, blockade, epidemics, weather condition, high or low water levels, ice, labor conflicts, breakdown of the Vessel, congestion, lock operational malfunction, docking difficulties or any other cause whatsoever or if Company considers that for any reason whatsoever, proceeding to, attempting to enter, or entering or remaining at the place of disembarkation may expose the Vessel to risk of loss or damage or to be likely to delay her, Passenger and his/her property may be landed at the place of embarkation or at any place which Company or the Captain of the Vessel in his or her discretion may reasonably decide upon, at which place the responsibility of Company shall cease and this contract shall be deemed to have been fully performed, or if Passenger has not embarked, Company may cancel the proposed voyage and at Uniworld’s sole discretion provide passengers with a Future Travel Credit (FTC) or refund of monies paid to Uniworld in connection with such cruise-tour. Company reserves the right at its sole option and discretion, without any liability for damages or refund of any kind to deviate from the Vessel’s advertised or ordinary itinerary or route, to delay, advance or lengthen any sailing, to omit or change ports of call, to arrange for substantially equivalent transportation by another vessel and/or by other means of transportation, including without limitation by motor coach or other land transportation alternatives, whether belonging to Company or not, and to cause Passenger to disembark from the Vessel temporarily or permanently. Company may for any reason whatsoever cancel any sailing or terminate the Contract at any time before departure of the Vessel, and in such event, the Company’s only liability will be to provide Passengers the amount it has received for the Contract in the form of a Future Travel Credit or at Uniworld’s discretion a refund of monies paid to Uniworld in connection with such cruise-tour. For purposes of assisting other vessels or protecting life or property, the Captain of the Vessel has the right, at his or her sole discretion, to deviate from the Vessel’s advertised or ordinary itinerary or route, to delay, advance or cancel any sailing, to omit or change any ports of call, to tow or to be towed, to transfer Passenger and Passenger’s baggage to any other vessel and or other means of transportation whether belonging to Company or not, to cause Passenger to disembark the Vessel temporarily or permanently, and Passenger shall have no claims against Company in such circumstances.

8. HEALTH AND SECURITY/INDEMNIFICATION BY PASSENGER:  Passenger represents and warrants that Passenger is physically and otherwise fit to travel; that s/he will at all times comply with Vessel’s rules and regulations and orders and directions of the Vessel’s officers and staff; that his/her conduct will not impair the safety of the Vessel or inconvenience other passengers.

Company and the Captain of the Vessel, without liability, at any time, may refuse to transport or may land any Passenger at any port or place, or transfer Passenger to other means of transportation, because of health or physical condition, mental disorder, failure to abide by Vessel regulations, failure to possess necessary passports, visas and health or vaccination certificates, or other causes rendering Passenger unfit to travel on the Vessel.

If Passenger is refused passage or leaves the Vessel prior to the end of the cruise for any of the reasons described in this section or for other reasons including, but not limited to, personal, medical, or business reasons, Company will not be required to refund any portion of the Contract price or be responsible for any of Passenger’s cost.

Passenger hereby consents to a reasonable search being made of Passenger’s person, baggage or other property, and to the removal and confiscation or destruction of any object which may, in the opinion of Company, impair the safety of the Vessel or inconvenience other Passengers.

Passenger shall indemnify Company for all penalties, fines, charges, losses or expenses incurred or imposed upon Company or the Vessel by virtue of any act or violation of law by Passenger.

9. PASSENGER RESTRICTIONS : The Company welcomes passengers with special needs or disabilities. However, please note the following:

Passengers are required to advise the Company, in advance, of any physical, medical, emotional or mental condition which may require professional attention during the cruise or other special needs that require accommodation.

All guests must ensure they are medically and physically fit for travel. The Company may impose safety requirements necessary for the safe operation of the tour. The Company may also exclude an individual from participating in a tour or an activity if that individual’s participation poses a direct threat to health or safety.

The Company does not provide personal devices (such as wheelchairs, hearing aids or prescription eyeglasses) or services of a personal nature (such as pushing a wheelchair or assistance in eating, toileting or dressing). A companion capable of providing such assistance must accompany any passenger who requires services of a personal nature.

Young Travelers (Europe, Russia, Asia and Egypt): Guests should be 4 years of age or older. Guests who are less than 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and booked in a cabin with someone who is 21 years of age or older.

Young Travelers (Peru): Guests must be 7 years of age or older. Guests under 21 must be booked in a cabin with someone who is 25 years of age or older or traveling with a parent or guardian who is booked in a connecting suite. Some excursions may not be suitable for young children.

10. INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR SHORE TOURS/LIMIT OF LIABILITY : Company makes no representations concerning and has no responsibility for tours, including, without limitation, shore excursions, hotels, restaurants and transportation, whether by vessel, air, rail, land or other means, not owned or operated by Company. Company shall have no obligation or liability of any kind to Passenger for acts or omissions in connection with or arising out of arrangements with independent contractors. Arrangements with independent contractors include, but are not limited to the following: (1) airline and surface transportation; (2) services or products available for Passenger’s convenience aboard the Vessel; (3) services, products or transportation provided other than aboard the Vessel furnished by others, including without limitation, sight-seeing tours, pre-cruise and post-cruise tours, excursions, shore trips and tender service, whether arranged or organized by tour operators, travel agents or Company. The Passenger’s agreements with independent contractors are not covered by this Contract and shall be subject to the terms and conditions of Passenger’s agreements with such carriers and independent contractors, whether or not any products sold, services tendered, or transportation provided to Passenger is arranged directly or through Company. Passenger agrees that all rights, exemptions from liability, defenses and immunities of whatsoever nature referred to in this Contract applicable to Company or the Vessel, shall in all respects inure also for the benefit of any servant, agent or independent contractor of Company acting in the course of or in connection with their employment so that in no circumstances shall any such servant, agent or independent contractor, as the result of so acting, be under any liability to any such Passenger different from that of Company.

11. NO LIABILITY FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT : No staff doctors or nurses are employed by Company on the Vessel. If Passenger requires medical attention during the trip, medical services will be provided at local facilities. Passenger shall be responsible for all costs and expenses of medical services, treatment, medications or transportation. Company shall have no liability whatsoever for any costs incurred in connection with medical services, or for the quality of care Passenger receives. Passenger consents to treatment by medical professionals designated by Company, if Passenger is unable to request or authorize medical treatment and, in the opinion of the Vessel’s officer, medical attention is necessary, solely at the expense of Passenger and without liability to Company.

12. PAYMENT BY PASSENGER AND EXTRA EXPENSES : Any and all payments by Passenger to Company shall be made in currency of the United States of America or such other currency acceptable to Company. All charges for services and products provided on board the Vessel must be settled in cash or charged (via credit card acceptable to Company) before Passenger’s final disembarkation from the Vessel. Any other expenses incurred by Passenger or by Company on behalf of Passenger shall be payable by Passenger on demand.

13. LIABILITY LIMITATION FOR LOSS OF LIFE OR BODILY INJURY : If Passenger is injured, becomes ill, or dies, or Passenger’s property is lost or damaged, or Passenger and/or his/her property is delayed, Company will not be liable to Passenger for any damages unless the occurrence was due to the negligence of Company or willful fault. Company disclaims liability to Passenger under any circumstances for infliction of emotional distress, mental suffering or psychological injury which was not: (i) the result of physical injury to Passenger caused by the negligence or fault of a crew member or the manager, agent, master, owner or operator of the Vessel; (ii) the result of Passenger having been at actual risk of physical injury, and such risk was caused by the negligence or fault of a crew member or the manager, agent, master, owner or operator of the Vessel; or (iii) intentionally inflicted by a crew member or the manager, agent, master, owner or operator of the Vessel. In no event will Company be liable to Passenger for consequential, incidental, exemplary or punitive damages. In addition to all of the restrictions and exemptions from liability provided in this Contract, the liability of Company for the death of or personal injury (including emotional distress or injury) to a Passenger shall in no event exceed the monetary limitations set forth in Article 7 of the Athens Convention. Nothing in this Contract is intended nor shall operate to limit or deprive Company of any such statutory limitation of or exoneration from liability, or of the benefits of any statute or law of any country which might be applicable providing for exoneration from or limitation of liability including, but not limited to, the 1976 Convention.

14. FORCE MAJEURE : Company shall not be liable in any way to Passenger for death, bodily injury, illness, damage, delay or other loss or detriment to person or property or for Company’s failure to commence, perform and/or complete any duty owed to Passenger if such death, delay, bodily injury (including emotional distress or injury), illness, damage or other loss or detriment to person or property is caused by an Act-of-God, war or war-like operations, terrorist activities, civil commotions, labor difficulties, whether or not Company is a party thereto, interference by authorities, requisitioning of the Vessel, political disturbance, inability to secure or failure of supplies, perils of the sea, collision, foundering of the Vessel, explosion, breakdown or failure of or damage to the Vessel or its hull, machineries or fittings, weather conditions, high or low water levels, lock malfunction, that may arise or be caused by riots, insurrection and government restraint, fire, or any other cause whatsoever beyond the reasonable control of Company.

15. CHOICE OF LAW AND FORUM : This Contract applies to claim suits and litigation of any kind whether against Company in person or the Vessel. This Contract is issued at Rheinfelden, Switzerland. Subject always to the Athens Convention Relating to the Carriage of Passengers and their Luggage by Sea, the International Convention on Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims, 1976, the Strasbourg Agreement on Liability Limitations for Inland Navigation, 2012 and such other international agreements and conventions as may apply, all questions arising on this Contract shall be decided according to the laws of Switzerland, excluding the rules of conflicts of laws. Where the Athens Convention or any law applies mandatorily, venue shall lie before any court sanctioned by that Convention or law. In all other cases, Company and Passenger agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the Civil Court in Rheinfelden (“Bezirksgericht Rheinfelden”), Switzerland in any dispute arising out of, or in connection with, this Contract or these Terms and Conditions, the ownership and/or operation of Vessel, to the exclusion of the jurisdiction of the courts of any other country. Passenger hereby waives any venue or other objection that may be available to any such action or proceeding being brought in said court.

16. INTERPRETATION:  Should any provision(s) of this Contract be contrary to or invalid by virtue of the law of any jurisdiction or be so held by a court of competent jurisdiction, such provision(s) shall be deemed to be severed from this Contract and of no force and effect and all remaining provisions herein shall continue to be in full force and effect. The headings of this Contract are for convenience of reference only and shall not define or limit any of the terms or provisions hereof. Whenever the context so requires, references to the male gender shall include references to the female, and references to the singular shall include the plural and vice-versa.

17. WARRANTIES/CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES EXCLUDED : All warranties including warranties of fitness for use and merchantability are expressly excluded from this contract. Company shall under no circumstances be liable for any indirect, special or consequential damages.

18. WRITTEN NOTICES : Except as otherwise expressly provided in this Contract, all written notice required by this Contract must be mailed, postage prepaid to:

GRC Global River Cruises Holding AG Fledermausgasse 6 CH-4310 Rheinfelden  Switzerland

19. ENTIRE AGREEMENT : The provisions of this ticket/contract represent the entire agreement and a binding contract between Passenger and Company. Passenger’s acceptance of this contract constitutes Passenger’s consent to these provisions. These provisions supersede any oral or written representations. Any change in these provisions must be in writing and signed by the president of Company and may require a commensurate increase in fare. Should your delay cause you to miss the starting point of the cruise, you will need to get to the next port of call at your expense. We recommend you call the cruise ship using the number shown above for the exact location of the next port of call. Uniworld is not responsible for missed transfers or other expenses incurred due to missed or delayed flights. Travel down the broad boulevards of New Delhi, laid out early in the 20th century after the British moved the capital of the Raj from Kolkata to New Delhi and created a new administrative city just south of the old city. Sir Edwin Lutyens, a noted British architect, was given the task of designing this new city, which is still known as Lutyens' Delhi; though the British are long gone, this area continues to house India’s government. The British were by no means the only conquerors to make New Delhi their capital. It was also the capital of the Mughal Empire for centuries, so it hosts spectacular examples of Mughal architecture, including Humayun’s Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Humayun’s Tomb, erected in 1570, was the first Mughal garden tomb in India (and a model for the Taj Mahal and Birla House). Your panoramic tour includes a look at the enormous fort where the emperors lived. The old phrase says that “Delhi belongs to the large-hearted,” and no one was larger hearted than Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of modern India, whose memorial, Raj Ghat, is also on the itinerary today.

You have some free time after your tour to explore this exciting city on your own—you’ll find goods from all over India in bustling Connaught Place, in case you want to indulge in some shopping, and the National Museum displays 5,000 years of India’s arts and artifacts. You may opt for the optional tour to Qutab Minar and the Jagannath Hindu Temple.

Masterpiece Collection Providing the most all-inclusive luxury to our guests is the heart and soul of our brand and that will never change. Yet sometimes our guests want something that goes even "above and beyond" our included experiences. In light of this, we now offer guests a curated selection of optional excursions, available for an additional charge.

Qutab minar and jagannath hindu temple.

Embark on half-day excursion to visit two of India's most popular monuments, Qutab Minar and the Jagannath Hindu Temple. The highest brick minaret in the world, Qutab Minar is part of the Qutab complex, an UNESCO World Heritage site shared by surrounding mosques, tombs and towers. The soaring Qutab Minar tower dates back to 13th century and is among the earliest examples of Islamic architecture in India. Look closely to see verses from the Quran delicately etched into its iconic red sandstone. Next, you'll visit Jagannath Hindu Temple, home to three deities including Lord Jagannath, considered to be the "Lord of the Universe." Although you can't go inside the temple, its incredibly intricate architecture and façade are sure to leave you in awe.

*Masterpiece Collection are optional experiences that go above and beyond our daily selection of included excursions and can be booked for an additional fee. Select Masterpiece Collection Optional Experiences can be pre-booked. Please note that requests to pre-book must be made by calling our Reservations Team no later than 6 days prior to departure and are subject to availability. Some venues are limited in the number of guests they can accommodate. Guests can book onboard (space permitting) and pay in USD. Pre-booked Masterpiece Collection Optional Experiences are refundable up to 5 days prior to the cruise/tour start date; if inside of 5 days they are non-refundable. Select Masterpiece Collection Optional Experiences require a minimum number of participants and are subject to cancellation (with full refund) if minimum is not met. Masterpiece Collection Optional Experiences are non-commissionable. Prices are subject to change. Masterpiece Collection excursions may not operate if they occur on a holiday or if they require a minimum number of participants and that minimum is not met.

New Delhi, Transfer to Agra

Agra

This morning you will check out of your New Delhi hotel and head south via motorcoach to Agra, the site of Shah Jahan’s best-known building project, the exquisite Taj Mahal. You’ll visit the Taj Mahal this afternoon and stay for sunset, as the monument’s changing colors draw comparisons to the shifting mood of the late Emperor’s wife.

Majesty and Grace—the Taj Mahal at Sundown

Arrive this afternoon at the luxurious Oberoi Amarvilas. Relax over lunch there and then check into your room, where you will be delighted to discover that your room—indeed, every room—has a view of the Taj Mahal, your next destination for the day.

It’s easily the most famous...

It’s easily the most famous building in India, and one of the most famous in the world, with its white domes and minarets floating serenely above the reflecting pools—and you will encounter it just as the setting sun bathes the white marble in a panoply of colors. It’s a monument to a love story between a great ruler, Shah Jahan, and a learned and powerful woman, his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. After she died giving birth to their 14th child, he gathered some 20,000 craftsmen to build her mausoleum, who endowed it with dazzling translucent marble carvings inlaid with precious and semiprecious stones. Step through the gate and into the symmetrical gardens, and experience one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Agra, Transfer to Jaipur

Jaipur

Is the Taj Mahal best seen at sunset or sunrise? It’s an impossible question to answer, so Uniworld guests have the rare pleasure of experiencing both. Wake up early this morning to see the white marble monument aglow with the rosy tinge of dawn. You’ll spend your next two nights at the beautiful Oberoi Rajvilas. The luxury hotel sits on 32 acres of landscaped gardens and is built around an ancient Shiva temple.

Early Morning at the Taj Mahal

Awake early in the morning for a return visit to the Taj Mahal, which will take on the rosy pink tints of sunrise as you arrive. The gates open as the sun lifts above the horizon, and you enter the exquisite precincts, which you may explore at your leisure.

You’ll return to your hotel for...

You’ll return to your hotel for lunch before you head by motorcoach to the third city in the Golden Triangle, Jaipur. Capital of the state of Rajasthan, strewn with massive palaces, it was founded and carefully planned in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II (who gave the new city his name), so even the old part of the city is laid out on a grid. The Singh family’s influence is still felt in Jaipur, though all hereditary titles in India were discontinued in 1971.

Check into the romantic Oberoi Rajvilas, a luxurious oasis, and spend the afternoon relaxing at the hotel, enjoying the extensive, bird-filled gardens.

Pink is the color of hospitality in Rajasthan, which gives you an idea of what to expect in the “Pink City” of Jaipur.

Jaipur—Rajasthan’s Princely City and Amber Fort

Today you'll tour the Amber Palace, followed by a visit to another of Jai Singh II’s architectural projects, the Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site devoted to astronomy. Each of the curious structures, called yantras, in this observatory without telescopes enabled court astronomers to study the heavens, measuring various celestial phenomena—eclipses, the position of stars—or the time of day. Some of these instruments are still used by astrologers to determine which days will be auspicious for weddings or other important events.

Take the afternoon to explore on your own: Shuttles will be available to carry you to and from the hotel to the major shopping district. Jaipur’s bazaars are famous for their traditional Rajasthani crafts—jewelry, pottery, hand-printed textiles, and carpets—so go and enjoy the swirl of colors even if you aren’t interested in buying some souvenirs.

Jaipur, Fly to Kolkata (Embark), Cruising the Ganges River

Settle into your beautifully appointed suite aboard the Ganges Voyager II in Kolkata.

Kalna, once an important trade port on the river, is best known today for the magnificent Hindu temples built by the maharajas of Bardhaman— which you’ll experience today. After marveling at the astonishing Rajbari temple complex, you may opt to walk with your guide through the colorful local market.

Stroll along the streets of Kalna as you head to the Rajbari temple complex. The Pratapeshwar Temple, built in 1849, is embellished with exceptional terra-cotta carvings depicting myths and rituals, as well as scenes of everyday life (see if you can spot the girl in typical Victorian dress with a violin among the hundreds of figures). Lalji, the oldest temple in the complex, dates to 1739; the three-storied structure is topped with 25 distinctive pinnacles. Next to it is Krishna Chandra, built in a similar style. Across the street you’ll find the amazing Naba Kailash, two concentric circles of intricately carved temples dedicated to Shiva. The inner circle is made up of 34 white temples symbolizing pure thought; the outer circle contains 74 temples symbolizing the everyday world.

Artisans have been making ornamental brass objects— vases, lamps, figurines, platters—in Matiari for more than a century, so it’s no wonder that production is so well-organized and the craftsmen so skillful. Scrap metal is melted in the village foundry and pressed into new sheets of brass, which are then turned into various objects. Each craftsman specializes in a different step of the process, so one artisan might cut the metal, while another shapes it into a wide tray, and yet another etches an intricate pattern onto the surface. The sound of hammer on brass will fill the air as you stroll from workshop to workshop to see each step of the fascinating process.

Murshidabad, Baranagar

Today’s adventures take you to a duo of Bengali towns—Murshidabad and Baranagar—each one boasting surprising and beautiful architectural monuments closely linked to the ruling families of the area.

Visit to Murshidabad City, Ride by Buggy to Katra Mosque, and Visit to Baranagar Village

Climb aboard a horse-drawn buggy for a ride to Katra Mosque, built in 1723 by the first nawab, Murshid Quli Khan, who gave his name to the town. The huge mosque was damaged by an earthquake in 1897, losing two of its four great towers, but it is still a remarkable sight.

Your visit continues in...

Your visit continues in Murshidabad, long ago the capital of Bengal and an important administrative center during the Raj—a fact that comes clear as the ship rounds a bend in the river and you behold Hazarduari Palace. This massive neoclassical building was erected in the mid-19th century for British officials, who lived and had their offices in its 114 rooms. One might wonder why the architect, Colonel Duncan Macleod of the Bengal Corps, thought the building needed a thousand doors, but that’s how many it has—900 of them are real doors, and the remaining 100 are false. It is now a museum, which you will visit.

Return to the ship for lunch and cruise to the town of Baranagar, where Rani Bhabani built beautiful brick temples in the 18th century. Goats frolic among them now and vines attempt to take them over, but the terra-cotta carvings are considered among the best in Bengal and the temples are well-tended.

After your tour, if time and weather allow, you can learn a bit about one of the Raj’s enduring legacies in India: a passion for that most British of all games, cricket. It remains India’s favorite sport, and the national team, nicknamed the “Men in Blue,” has won the Cricket World Cup more than once. The game is played in schools, in fields, even on village streets; watch it in action and discover the meaning of terms like “long leg,” “fast bowler” and “run-out.”

The Ganges, Khusbagh, Mayapur

One of the world’s most sacred bodies of water, the Ganges River flows through a myriad of small villages and highly populated cities throughout India and Bangladesh. Take in the remarkable scenery as you sail and be on the lookout for a rare sighting of the endangered Ganges river dolphin.

Also today, watch as a skilled practitioner of mehndi demonstrates how the intricate henna patterns are created, and discover the meanings of the traditional motifs.

Mayapur, Chandannagar

Mayapur

Few places of worship exist on such a head-spinning scale as what you will witness today in Mayapur, the center of the international Hare Krishna movement and home to the new Temple of the Vedic Planetarium, still under construction. Most students of history know a thing or two about the British colonial powers in India, but few are aware that the French had colonies here as well. You’ll visit this former French outpost today.

This evening, enjoy a Farewell dinner and take in a lively cultural dance performance, complete with music and dancing.

As the ship comes into sight of Mayapur, look for the new Vedic temple currently under construction. Funded in part by Alfred Ford, great-grandson of Henry Ford, the temple is designed to be larger than St. Paul’s Cathedral in London once completed. The new temple construction coincides with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Hare Krishna movement, whose founder was born in Mayapur. Millions of Hare Krishna devotees come from all over the world to this pilgrimage site; as you walk through Mayapur’s bazaar to the temple complex, you may well spot expatriates from America, Canada, and Europe. Colorful parades of followers often weave through the streets, adding to the hustle and bustle of the lively, vivid scene. You’ll tour the existing temple complex, get a look at the new Vedic Planetarium, and learn something about the beliefs of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness.

“Liberté, Egalité et Fraternité.” These words, the famous slogan of the French Revolution, are inscribed on the gateposts of Chandannagar, a mark of the centuries the town was a French outpost in West Bengal. In fact, Chandannagar did not officially become part of India until 1952, so when you step ashore here you will find a mixture of French Colonial and Indian architecture. A broad, tree-lined riverfront promenade known as the Strand shows off the handsomest remaining French buildings, and a river winds its way through the town. Chandannagar actually earned its name from the crescent shape of the river, as the Hindi word “chand” translates to “moon.” Our visit to Chandannagar today includes a stop at the 19th-century Church of the Sacred Heart.

After lunch, you’ll venture to Kumartuli, a traditional potters’ neighborhood that specializes in making intricate clay idols, for a look at this complex and fascinating time-honored tradition. Next, on your way back to the ship, you'll see the many remnants of Kolkata's colonial past. Though teeming Kolkata is home to palaces and tenements, new developments and modern office buildings, grand hotels and parks, its historic architecture reflects its status as the longtime administrative heart of the British Raj. The colonial buildings still standing—and still in use—offer a blend of baroque and neoclassical styles that say much about British colonial taste. Perhaps the most surprising is the red-and-white façade of the Calcutta High Court building—a replica of the city hall in Ypres, Belgium. You’ll see it as well as the stately Palladian dome of Government House, the classical white columns of Town Hall, the red-brick Writers’ Building, and the enormous General Post Office. Visit St. John’s, the oldest Anglican church in the city, then stop for a photo op outside the Victoria Memorial Museum—which was partly inspired by the Taj Mahal. Built as a tribute to Queen Victoria after her death, this huge white-marble structure houses an illuminating exhibition on the colonial era.

She came to India in 1929, after growing up in Macedonia and joining a Loreto nunnery in Ireland, and two decades later she founded her own order, the Missionaries of Charity, devoted to the “salvation and sanctification of the poorest of the poor.” Visit the Mother House, where she lived and worked for decades; see her simply furnished room and the tiny museum devoted to her—her Nobel Peace Prize medal is on display, along with informative newspaper clippings and photos—and her tomb. It’s a modest and serene spot devoted to one of the most influential women ever to live in the city.
