There are a lot of great travel credit cards you could bring with you on your spring trips, but few have the same breadth as the Chase Freedom Flex℠ *.

The card has potentially the highest cash-back rates when you activate on two of the best parts of traveling: food and board. It doesn’t charge an annual fee, either, helping you maximize your savings.

But you’ll need to act quickly. These rewards will only last through June 2024.

Chase Freedom Flex℠

Chase Freedom Flex℠

What makes the card’s current offer so enticing is its unparalleled cash back rate at restaurants and hotels -- so long as you can book the latter through Chase Travel℠.

The Freedom Flex typically offers 3% cash back at restaurants, but combined with its rotating 5% cash back (on the first $1,500 spent in quarterly combined purchases, then 1%) bonus categories when you activate, the Freedom Flex boosts that number to 7% cash back.

And, since the card earns 5% cash back for travel booked through Chase Travel already, combined with its current 5% cash back offering for hotels, you could earn 9% cash back on your hotel booking if you can make it through Chase.

The math doesn’t quite add up -- if you earn 3% cash back on dining at restaurants and the bonus categories typically earn 5% cash back, shouldn’t that be 8% cash back on dining?

Here’s a breakdown of how Chase explained the rewards rates:

  • Hotels booked through Chase: Earn 4% cash back from rotating rewards and 5% back from the standard bonus category -- 9% cash back total .
  • Hotels booked directly: Earn 4% cash back from rotating rewards and 1% from the card’s base rate -- 5% cash back total .
  • Restaurants: Earn 4% cash back from rotating rewards and 3% from the standard category -- 7% cash back total .
  • Amazon.com: Earn 5% cash back from rotating rewards.
  • Drug stores: Earn 3% cash back from the standard bonus category.
  • All other purchases: Earn 1% cash back.

However, there are a few caveats. First, these rates won’t last -- the Freedom Flex only offers 5% cash back at Amazon.com, hotels and restaurants when you activate from April to June 2024.

Second, the rotating reward category has a spending cap of $1,500 in combined quarterly purchases. So once you hit that limit, your restaurant rewards will fall to 3%, your Amazon.com purchases will fall to 1%, and your hotel rewards rate will fall to 5% for hotels booked through Chase Travel and 1% for hotels booked directly through the hotel brand.

The Chase Freedom Flex offers rotating rewards that change quarterly , or about every three months. Its current rotating bonus categories cover purchases made at Amazon.com, hotels and restaurants. Keep in mind you’ll need to manually activate these rewards each time they change.

Luckily, you can set alerts to inform you when it’s time to activate. And, if you do forget, you can still activate by June 14, 2024. You’ll even earn retroactive rewards for any purchases made in the featured categories before you activated -- something that gives this card an edge over the Discover it® Cash Back* .

In addition to its rotating rewards, the Freedom Flex offers a few static bonus categories. These categories cover restaurants, drug stores and travel booked through Chase.

With its spending cap of $1,500 in combined purchases, you could earn a total of $75 across the quarter at the 5% cash-back rate when you activate, before it falls to 1%.

However, even once you hit that cap, you’ll still earn 5% cash back on hotels booked through Chase and 3% cash back at restaurants, which is among the best rates found on a cash-back credit card with no annual fee .

As an example, suppose you spent $750 on both your hotel and restaurants, making a combined total of $1,500, the Freedom Flex’s spending cap:

You could earn upwards of $120. Remember, these are merely estimates. How you spend might not be an even split, so your rewards could look different.

The Freedom Flex also features a welcome bonus -- you can earn $200 after you spend $500 on purchases in your first three months from account opening. Based on the example above, you’d hit the required spending threshold, adding another $200 to your rewards. That totals $320, which should be enough to help cover some part of your travel, whether it’s a night at a fancy hotel, your rental car or a good dinner out.

Once the Freedom Flex’s bonus categories change on July 1, you’ll still have a powerful rewards credit card to use for whichever purchases Chase decides to feature next. Past categories have included Target, fitness memberships, groceries and gas, among others.

Chase offers the opportunity to increase how much your rewards are worth by pooling them with other credit cards in its Chase Ultimate Rewards family.

You could earn the Chase Freedom Flex’s higher cash-back rates, for example, and then pool your rewards with either the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® .

Note that both of those credit cards charge an annual fee , the Preferred comes in at $95 and the Reserve at $550. However, they both offer annual travel credits that help soften the blow of their fees. They have two other great perks -- a 1:1 point transfer rate to Chase’s hotel and airline partners , as well as a 25% and 50% point redemption bonus respectively for travel booked through Chase Travel.

It’ll take a bit more work, and an additional credit card, but if you can use the Chase Trifect strategy , you could increase the return you earn on your travel spending exponentially.

If you’ve got travel plans this spring, you should consider adding the Chase Freedom Flex to your card collection.

Even if you don’t want to take the extra step of using it in tandem with a Chase Sapphire card, it’ll be a rewarding and inexpensive choice. You might even earn an extra $320 to spend on your travels.

Find the best credit card for you

5 best credit cards that offer pre-approval or pre-qualification in 2024, pre-approval doesn't guarantee approval, but it can help you avoid an unnecessary hard pull on your credit..

thumbnail

Terms apply to American Express benefits and offers. Visit americanexpress.com to learn more.

When you apply for a credit card, the issuer performs what is known as a hard pull or hard inquiry , which shows up on your credit report. Hard pulls temporarily lower your credit score, which isn't the end of the world, but it's better to avoid racking up unnecessary hard inquiries since they can remain on your credit report for up to two years. One way to do this is by going through a card issuer's pre-approval or pre-qualification process before applying.

Getting a pre-approved offer for a credit card doesn't guarantee you'll be approved, but it can give you a better idea of your approval odds with no hard inquiry. There is no impact to your credit score until you formally apply.

Not every card issuer offers pre-approvals. Below, CNBC Select details the top credit cards that generally offer pre-approval or pre-qualification and how they work. (See our methodology for more information on how we made this list.)

What's the difference between a pre-approval and a pre-qualification?

The terms pre-approval and pre-qualification both refer to the card issuers' pre-screening process that can help you determine whether you'll qualify for a credit card without a hard pull on your credit reports. Prequalified offers are typically initiated by consumers who want to check their approval odds, while preapproved offers are generally unsolicited offers from card issuers.

Does pre-approval or pre-qualification result in a hard credit pull?

Most credit card pre-approvals do not result in a hard pull of your credit. Some issuers require a Social Security Number (SSN) or the last four digits of your SSN to process a pre-approval, but this is generally done to verify your identity and shouldn't result in a credit check unless otherwise stated.

Does pre-approval guarantee approval?

If you qualify for a pre-approved credit card or receive a pre-screened offer in the mail, that does not guarantee you'll be approved. Your credit score, income and history with the card issuers are all taken into account, but won't be fully reviewed unless you submit a traditional card application.

Bottom line

Getting a pre-approved, pre-qualified or pre-screened credit card offer doesn't guarantee you'll get approved for the card if you apply. However, seeing whether you're pre-approved for a card offer is easy and typically doesn't require a hard credit pull. So it doesn't hurt to explore what offers you may qualify for.

As companies navigate changing payment preferences particularly from the entry-level workforce – with over two-thirds of millennials having adopted digital wallets 1 – mobile technology is unlocking the next frontier of convenient contactless payments.

“Businesses worldwide are seeking fast and secure payment experiences, where payments can be made with just a click or tap, and finance teams can experience automatic reconciliation,” said Chad Wallace, global head of Commercial Solutions, Mastercard. “With today’s launch, we’re providing innovative tech that digitizes business and travel expenses, while also empowering businesses with more control of and visibility into their finances.”

The app leverages Mastercard’s innovative virtual card and tokenization platforms, enhanced data, and robust spend controls all within one easy-to-use interface. Accessing Mastercard mobile virtual cards is made seamless through the app so users can quickly experience the benefits of tap to pay. Mastercard mobile virtual cards can be used by organizations spanning a range of sizes and industries – including healthcare, insurance, fleet, higher education, and corporate travel.

Key capabilities and benefits of Mastercard’s mobile virtual card app include:

  • Increased security : The app offers the ability to set up a biometric authentication and an added security measure using a PIN to view card details. Each virtual card is also tokenized, enabling the cardholder’s sensitive data to be replaced by a unique card number so sensitive account details are not exposed.
  • Robust spend controls: Organizations can confidently stay compliant with expense policies using Mastercard’s transaction-level controls, which limit how, where, and when a mobile virtual card can be used.
  • Flexible integrations: Financial institutions can quickly get to market through Mastercard’s user interface or flexible API-based integrations, and offer unique features such as customized card art.
  • Holistic and seamless payment experience: The app provides a single interface to check the status of card balances and view pending and completed transactions, and is bank-agnostic, enabling users to access and manage virtual commercial cards issued by multiple participating financial institutions.
  • Real-time and enhanced data: For each mobile virtual card created, custom data elements are automatically captured and matched to the transaction, providing organizations with increased insights into spending and automatic reconciliation to optimize back-office processes.

HSBC Australia and Westpac will be the first financial institutions to offer organizations and corporate customers mobile wallet functionality through the Mastercard app.

“We’re pleased to partner with Mastercard to bring mobile wallet virtual cards to our Australian corporate clients, providing them with a smarter, safer, and faster way to pay,” said John Scott, Head of Global Payments, HSBC Australia. “Mobile wallet usage is growing, with the Asia-Pacific region accounting for over half of the digital payment transactions globally 2 . As contactless payments continue to surge, it’s important that corporate clients have access to best-in-class payment solutions to keep their business secure and take advantage of the increased efficiency offered by the latest technologies. HSBC has a history of delivering innovative digital solutions to our corporate clients, and we’re proud to add to that legacy with the launch of mobile wallet virtual cards in Australia. We plan to launch in other markets later this year.”

“Westpac is pleased to be one of the first domestic banks in Australia to offer the new Mastercard mobile virtual card app to our corporate and commercial customers in addition to our existing virtual card capabilities. The global payments market is at an inflection point and the mobile wallet solution, combining digital innovation, real time processing and security through robust controls is another way we’re helping our customers,” said Jeff Byrne, Managing Director of Global Transaction Services at Westpac Institutional Bank.

The app will be available in other key markets for users with a commercial virtual card issued through an organization by a participating financial institution. Once registered for the app with an invitation code, users will find their commercial virtual cards automatically linked and ready to be added to select digital wallets for use across Mastercard’s trusted global network.

Here’s what you should know.

A credit card offer is a perk attached to your credit card that is unique to that particular card and designed in order to stand out against the competition and attract new cardholders. Some perks are only offered for a limited time, while others may be tied to a card permanently, such as a no interest rate card .

Which credit card offer is best for you will depend on your financial situation and preferences, as there are many different types of credit card offers on the market.

Here are our top picks for the best credit card offers currently available to Australians, listed in alphabetical order.

No Annual Fee Offer

American Express Velocity Escape Card

Standard Interest Rate

Standard annual fee, offer expires.

If you’re looking to earn frequent flyer points with Velocity without spending a hefty amount on an annual fee, then the American Express Velocity Escape Card may very well be the pick of the lot for you. The no annual fee offer is tied to the American Express Velocity Escape Card permanently, rather than the common credit card introductory offer of the first year being a $0 annual fee before reverting to a high rate.

At the time of writing, Amex is not offering any other additional deals with its Velocity Escape Card, such as bonus points when signing up for a new card. However, there are other benefits to the card, such as uncapped earning potential. When evaluating our choices of the best Virgin Velocity Credit Cards for Australians , the Amex Velocity Escape Card scored 4.5 stars.

It is also worth noting that American Express offers the same card with the same conditions for Qantas Frequent Flyers , known as the Qantas American Express Discovery Card. It charges a $0 annual fee, a 23.99% interest rate, and uncapped earning potential.

Cashback Offer

ANZ First Credit Card

Standard Annual Fee

The ANZ First Credit Card may be, as the name suggests, a good choice for Australians looking for their first credit card. Its minimum credit limit of $1000 makes it ideal for those not wanting to spend outside their means, and an annual fee of only $30 is much cheaper than the industry standard—and the lowest of all ANZ credit card offerings.

Currently, ANZ is offering new First Credit Card holders the ability to earn $125 cash back when spending $750 on eligible purchases in the first three months of approval. ANZ notes that it may vary or end this offer at any time without notice, and that the cashback deal is not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card.

ANZ also currently waives the annual fee for the first 12 months before reverting back to the standard annual fee of $30.

Bonus Points Offer

ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card

For Australians looking for a general rewards card that isn’t linked to a specific program— such as Qantas Frequent Flyers or Coles’ Flybuys—the ANZ Rewards Black Credit Card may hold appeal.

It offers 180,000 bonus points and $150 cash back to new customers. ANZ notes that the bonus points could be used for $800 in gift cards at participating retailers, $720 cashback to reduce your credit card balance or credited into an ANZ bank account, or transferred to frequent flyer points with ANZ’s airline partners.

To be eligible for these rewards, ANZ Rewards Black cardholders must spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months from approval. There is no specified end to this credit card offer, however, ANZ does state that it may “vary or end this offer at any time without notice”.

Balance Transfer Offer

Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard

14.99% p,a.

Bankwest is currently offering the longest running 0% balance transfer deal out of the credit cards that Forbes Advisor Australia analysed with the balance transfer period running for 28 months. A balance fee charge of 3% applies, along with other fees and charges dependent on the balance transfer amount.

Following this 28-month period, cardholders will be charged the standard 14.99% p.a rate on any further balance transfers.

As a bonus, the Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard also offers its cardholders an ongoing $0 annual fee—a permanent feature that doesn’t expire.

0% Interest Rate Offer

Citi Rewards Credit Card

21.49% p.a.

The Citi Rewards Credit Card is a high-ranking credit card according to Forbes Advisor Australia, scoring 4.5 stars on our analysis of the best credit cards on the market for Australians this year . This is largely due to its many rewards perks, as well as its complimentary insurances, including phone insurance, international travel, purchase cover and more.

As for its current credit card deals, Citi Rewards Credit Card is offering new cardholders a 0% interest rate offer for the first 12 months.

Citi is also offering new Citi Rewards Credit Card holders a 0% p.a. interest rate on balance transfers for the first 12 months, with no balance transfer fee. After this period, balance transfers will incur a very high 22.24% rate.

No Annual Fee

Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard

Issued by NAB, the Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard is just as the name suggests: a card offering no annual fee. It is a rewards card although instead of earning points that can be redeemed anywhere, cardholders earn Flybuys points that are therefore only able to be redeemed at participating Flybuys retailers.

As the Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard has a low minimum credit limit of $1000, it could be a suitable option for frequent Coles’ shoppers who want to earn more Flybuys points to redeem for their groceries, hardware needs from Bunnings, or office staples from Officeworks, without having to worry about spending outside their means.

Additionally, for new cardholders who apply for the Coles No Annual Fee Mastercard by June 30, 2024, you will be able to enjoy a 0% purchase rate for the first six months before it reverts to the standard interest rate of 19.99%.

Kogan Money Visa Card

For those looking for a credit card with no annual fee, the Kogan Money Visa Card could be an appropriate choice. It is a type of rewards credit card, where cardholders are able to earn rewards to an uncapped potential.

It is rare that reward cards do not charge an annual fee, making the Kogan Money Visa Card stand out in our analysis.

The perks on offer by the Kogan Money Visa Cards don’t end there, either. For those applying for the card in the next few weeks, you will be able to enjoy 0% p.a on balance transfers for the first six months with no balance transfer fees applying. After the six month promotional period, the balance transfer rate will revert to 21.74% p.a.

Additionally, when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first three months from card approval, you will be eligible to receive a $300 Kogan.com credit voucher. Both the balance transfer deal and the credit offer are only available to those who apply for a new Kogan Money Credit Card by April 30, 2024.

Low Interest Rate

NAB Low Rate Credit Card

The NAB Low Rate Credit Card offers a low interest rate to its cardholders of 13.49% p.a. This is significantly lower than the current credit card interest rate average in Australia which, at the time of writing, is around 20%.

There is also 0% on balance transfers for the first 28 months (with a 2% balance transfer fee). After the 28-month period, any remaining balance transfers will be subject to the card’s cash advance rate of 21.74%.

In conjunction with the balance transfer offer, NAB is also offering new cardholders a $0 annual fee for the first year. This introductory offer commenced on October 4, 2023, and is still running as of April 2024—although NAB does state that this offer “may end at any time”.

It’s important to note that these introductory offers are not available when closing or transferring from another NAB credit card account or in conjunction with any other offer. However, the low rate offer remains available.

NAB StraightUp Card

With a 0% interest rate card, the NAB StraightUp Card is a leading choice according to Forbes Advisor Australia. It may suit Aussies looking for a no-frills credit card, but not be ideal for those looking for a card that supports balance transfers or the potential to earn rewards.

The NAB StraightUp Card also doesn’t charge an annual fee like most credit cards do. Instead, it charges a monthly fee dependent on the credit limit the cardholder chooses. For a $1,000 credit limit, your monthly fee will be $10; a $2,000 credit limit incurs a monthly fee of $15; and the highest credit limit option of $3,000 will result in a $20 monthly fee.

This monthly fee can then be multiplied by 12 in order to understand the annual cost and compare it to other credit cards on the market. For example:

  • A $1000 credit limit would cost $120 annually in monthly fees,
  • A $2000 credit limit would cost $180 annually in monthly fees, and
  • A $3000 credit limit would cost $240 annually in monthly fees.

However, it is important to note that if you don’t make any purchases and have an outstanding balance of $0 during the whole statement period, NAB will reverse your monthly fee for that period. That means you will only be charged the total annual fee if you use your credit card every month.

Bonus Points

St George Amplify Rewards Signature

St George is currently offering a significant deal to new Amplify Rewards Signature cardholders, with 150,000 bonus Amplify points on sign-up. These bonus points are available to St George Amplify Rewards Signature cardholders who spend the minimum amount of $12,000 on eligible purchases within the first 12 months from card approval.

St George is also offering a discounted first year card fee of $199 (before reverting to the standard $295 annual fee), and a 0% p.a. balance transfer deal for the first 24 months. The balance transfer offer needs to be requested at the time of application, and will be subject to a 1% fee on the balance.

All of the above promotions are only available to those who apply and are approved for a new Amplify Rewards Signature credit card between now and July 31, 2024.

Pre-existing St George card holders can also benefit from a more heavily discounted card fee for the first year of $99, before reverting to the standard $295 annual fee.

Below we outline the different types of credit card offers available to Australians, and round up our top ten picks for the best deals on the market right now. It’s worth noting that these deals aren’t always standalone offerings, either. Some cards will have numerous offers attached to them.

Balance Transfer Offers

Credit card companies will frequently offer a period of 0% balance transfers to new cardholders, encouraging them to move from their current credit card issuer. Since a credit card balance transfer involves moving the amount you owe (the balance) to another credit card, you may end up saving money if you transfer your balance within a promotional period and pay zero interest.

These balance transfer offers vary with some offering the 0% interest rate for a period of six months and some for up to 28 months. After this period expires, the balance transfer interest rate is usually quite high.

Related: Balance Transfer Credit Cards Explained

Many rewards cards offer cardholders the ability to earn points, which can then be redeemed for a variety of goods and services. Sometimes these points are directly linked to the company—such as Coles’ Flybuys points program—while others can be used to redeem in a variety of stores, or even to put towards paying off your balance.

Bonus points are a common introductory offer for new customers. Credit card companies will entice individuals to sign up to their credit cards in order to receive a large chunk of bonus points if they spend a certain amount of money within a specified time frame.

Credit card companies may also offer ad-hoc bonus point specials, such as extra bonus points to customers who shop at a particular store (again, spending a certain amount of money within a timeframe). These bonus point deals are for a limited time only and vary across each credit card company due to their retail partnerships and the like.

Frequent Flyer Deals

Similar to bonus point offerings, frequent flyer credit cards may also offer deals to their customers, albeit in relation to travel. While this often involves a large amount of frequent flyer points upon sign-up, it could also include a waived annual fee of a frequent flyer membership program, access to airport lounges at no extra charge, travel insurance, and other travel-related perks.

Related: Our Pick Of The Best Frequent Flyer Credit Cards

Sometimes a credit card company may offer you a cash back deal when you sign-up and spend a certain amount on your new credit card within a specified period from when you are approved for the card. The amount of cash back, the spending criteria, and the period of time ranges depending on the credit card issuer. This is another example of an introductory offer.

It’s worth noting that some cards have cash back deals as an ongoing offer, which are valid through partnerships with the credit card issuer. For example, at the time of writing, the American Express Velocity Escape Card is offering $100 back to those who spend $500 at Samsung online when they activate the offer. These offers are valid for a limited time, and therefore vary throughout the year.

A common sign-up offer from credit card companies is to waive the first year’s annual fee for new customers, and then revert back to the standard annual fee after the first 12 months. This is an example of an introductory offer.

However, there are some cards on the market that don’t charge an annual fee whatsoever, although many charge a monthly account keeping fee. These types of cards can suit those who are looking for a no-frills type of card, that they may only use in the case of an emergency, instead of a rewards card that is designed to maximise perks and points.

No Interest Rate

Many card companies are now offering no interest rate charges on the first year for new cardholders. As this is an introductory deal, it would revert back to the actual interest rate, which may even be much higher than the average interest rate on the market.

However, there are also cards that offer no interest as a permanent offering, again suiting Australian consumers looking for a straight-forward, no-frills option.

To establish the above list, Forbes Advisor Australia conducted extensive research into the credit card offers currently on the market. To best represent all of the deals, we found a minimum of three cards for each of the following categories:

  • 0% balance transfer offers
  • Bonus point and cashback offers
  • Frequent flyer offers
  • No annual fee deals
  • No or low interest rate cards

After establishing the large spread of deals available to Australian consumers, Forbes Advisor Australian then analysed the cards to find the leading contender/s of each category. The criteria varied depending on the offer, but largely included:

  • What is the current deal on offer?
  • When does the credit card offer expire, or is it attached to the card permanently?
  • Are balance transfers available and, if so, at what rate?
  • What is the interest rate charged?
  • Is there an annual fee and, if so, how much is it?
  • What is the minimum credit limit?
  • Can cardholders earn rewards, including frequent flyer points, through the card?
  • Does the credit card offer any other perks outside of the primary offer?
  • What are the eligibility requirements for the credit card?

Answering the above questions then helped us to establish the stand-out offers in each category, and rank them accordingly. From these rankings, we then established our top 10 picks.

As you can see from our pick of the best credit card offers, some credit card deals were featured multiple times via different credit cards, while other categories were only featured once. This is due to the overall benefits that the credit card could provide a cardholder, along with the standard of reviews via ProductReview.

Whatever you decide, it is critical to fully understand the terms and conditions of a credit card agreement before applying. Though we always recommend paying off your balance in full each month, it’s particularly important with rewards credit cards as interest rates are generally higher. Any interest charges on a balance will quickly wipe out the value of any rewards earned.

Is a low credit limit offer good?

A low credit limit on a credit card can be a good thing for those looking to spend within their means, and don’t want to risk falling into credit card debt. By having a lower credit limit, cardholders can be assured that they will be able to pay off their balance in the specified timeframe. Higher minimum credit limits, therefore, are more risky for those who don’t have the financial means to be borrowing—and repaying—a large figure per month. It also means that you are looked upon more favourably by lenders because when you apply to borrow for a mortgage or loan as lenders assume your credit card limit is reached—even if it isn’t—when they assess your loan viability.

Do all AMEX cards offer bonus points when signing up?

While it is common for American Express to offer bonus point deals for new cardholders upon signing up, it is not guaranteed. For example, at the time of writing, only six of the nine personal American Express credit cards are offering a new cardholder offer of bonus points.

These bonus point offers are for a limited time only, and can change in value throughout the year.

Can I receive a credit card deal if I’m already a cardholder?

Most credit card deals are only available to new card holders, and many are known as introductory offers for this purpose. If you already hold a credit card and a new offer commences, such as no annual fee for the first year, you will not be eligible. However, if it is a deal that is tied to the credit card permanently, then you will be.

The terms and conditions of each credit card deal and offer depends on the credit card issuer, so be sure to read the fine print before signing up to an offer.

Now Arriving at an Airport Lounge Near You: Peloton Bikes, Nap Pods and Caviar Service

In recent months, a handful of exclusive credit card lounges have opened in airports in the United States. More are coming this year.

By Christine Chung

A handful of new lounges opened by credit card issuers, including Capital One and American Express, have recently landed in airports across the United States, promising posh spots of refuge for select travelers awaiting their flights. At La Guardia Airport, caviar service will be available for pre-order. At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, travelers can get complimentary massages, and at Denver International Airport, there are nap pods. In addition to amenities, the new lounges provide an ambience reminiscent of a luxury hotel lobby, both in interior design and scale, and fit several hundred people at a time.

“Lounges have certainly gotten busier, so we’ve expanded our footprint,” said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, which in February opened its largest Centurion lounge, at 26,000 square feet at Hartsfield-Jackson , bringing its total number of lounges in the United States to 14.

Broadly, there are three types of airport lounges available to travelers: airline operated; shared-use spaces that aren’t limited to one airline or frequent flier status (think Priority Pass); and credit card lounges. Many are operated in partnership with lounge development companies.

For more than a decade, American Express was the only credit card issuer with lounges in the United States. That changed last year, when Chase Sapphire and Capital One each opened locations at major airports across the country, with plans to unveil a handful more in the coming years.

The proliferation is driven in part by changing demographics and travel patterns of fliers today. This year may set a record for the number of air travelers, with an estimated 4.7 billion people expected to fly globally. According to a survey published last May by the polling firm Morning Consult, younger travelers are more inclined than older generations to book travel with credit card loyalty programs, and those in the Gen Z age group, in particular, have signaled a declining loyalty to airline frequent flier programs.

While credit card companies saw opportunities to expand their brand awareness with lounges, the facilities also provide additional benefits to card members who pay hundreds of dollars in annual membership fees. Card fees range from $395 a year for a Capital One Venture X to $695 for an American Express Platinum.

Here are the latest highlights of new credit card lounges from around the country.

What’s on offer: Locally made draft beers and coffee, menus designed by local restaurants, private bathrooms with showers and, at La Guardia Airport’s 16,200-square-foot space spanning two floors, three suites with caviar service that can be reserved up to 72 hours before a flight ($2,200 to book).

Global Entry Enrollment on Arrival

Enrollment on Arrival (EoA) is CBP program that allows Global Entry applicants who are conditionally approved to complete their interviews upon arrival into the United States; including those entering the United States via a designated CBP Preclearance location. The EoA program eliminates the need for a Global Entry applicant to schedule an interview at an enrollment center to complete the application process.

When landing in an international terminal follow the signage directing you to CBP officers who can complete your Global Entry interview during your admissibility inspection. If you require assistance for your Global Entry interview because of a disability, immediately inform the interviewing CBP officer of your need for a reasonable modification or auxiliary aid or service to participate in the interview. For your planning purposes, please understand that if you use EoA and are requesting a modification, aid, or service at that time and an effective modification, aid, or service is not readily available, the interview may be scheduled for a later date.

To complete the interview via EoA, you must be in possession of the following documents:

  • A valid passport. If you travel using more than one passport, please bring them all to the interview so that the information can be added to your file.
  • Documents providing evidence of residency. Examples are: driver's license (if the address is current), mortgage statement, rental payment statement, utility bill, etc. This is not required for minors.
  • A permanent resident card (if applicable).

If you are a conditionally-approved Global Entry applicant, save time and participate in Enrollment on Arrival. A list of participating EoA airports is below.

Credit Card FAQs

Find information on Discover cards, how to apply for a credit card online, and more.

How can I improve my chances for approvals and higher credit limits when I apply for a credit card?

Credit card companies consider a number of factors in their decision to approve your application, including your credit history and your ability to repay. So they may consider your credit score, income and more. One of the simplest helpful credit habits is to make at least the minimum payment for all of your bills on time every month.

What is a credit limit for a credit card?

Your credit limit is the maximum amount of the revolving line of credit on your card—or the total amount you can use on your card for purchases, balance transfers, etc. When you apply for a credit card, the bank or credit card company uses a variety of information to decide what credit limit they can offer. As you show responsible credit use, credit card issuers may increase your credit card limit.

Is Discover Card accepted everywhere?

Discover is accepted nationwide by 99% of the places that take credit cards. 8 You can earn rewards with Discover when you shop in-store or online, order take-out, and much more.

What are the different types of Discover Cards?

Discover credit cards are available on the Discover it ®  platform, a set of common benefits we’re committed to providing to every customer. However, the rewards and some extra benefits vary from product to product to be sure we can give different customers what they need.

What credit score is needed to apply for a Discover Credit Card?

Discover Card credit score requirements vary by product. In general, the standard Discover it ® Card is for people with established credit. But the Discover Secured credit card is built for people looking to build or rebuild their credit with responsible use. 3 No matter what, cardmembers earn Discover Card rewards on every purchase.

How many Discover Cards can you have?

As a Discover ® Cardmember, you can have two different credit cards . Discover credit cards let you earn rewards on each eligible purchase, from cash back rewards to miles for travel and more.

How can I view introductory credit card offers and find the best new credit card offers for me?

You may receive credit card offers in the mail, by email, or online. Compare your offers by rewards, sign-up bonus, benefits, APR (including introductory rates), fees, and credit limits. Look for rewards programs that fit the way you spend. If you know you’ll use the card for groceries, gas, dining, or travel, you may be able to find a card that helps you earn more. And look for a sign-up bonus that doesn’t have a minimum spending amount required to get your extra rewards.

How can I get a new credit card from Discover?

You can apply for Discover credit cards at Discover.com or by calling 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683). Select from cash back credit cards or travel credit cards. We also have Discover student cards. All our credit cards earn Discover rewards on every purchase. You’ll need to be 18 or older to apply for a card. If you're not yet 21, you will have to apply online. Discover Secured credit card applicants must also apply online.

How can I apply for a credit card?

How does a credit card work.

A credit card is a revolving loan that you can use to make purchases. Each month you’ll receive a statement telling you how much of the loan you have used and have to pay back. If you pay the statement balance in full by the due date each month, you won't be charged interest on purchases. Otherwise, your APR will apply to your unpaid credit card balance and you’ll have interest charges in your next statement. When you apply for a credit card, the credit card issuer will pull your credit report–which could result in a hard inquiry–as one of the factors they use to decide whether to approve your application. Credit cards often provide rewards on purchases, which is usually a percentage of the amount you spent with the card. A credit card comparison shows you different rewards and benefits and can help you find the credit card that’s best for you.

What’s the easiest Discover Card to get?

There’s no easy credit card to get. Credit card approval isn’t guaranteed and depends on many factors, like your credit history and income. If you have an established credit history and good credit score, you may find you can get approved for many cards. However, if you’re just starting your credit journey or want to rebuild your credit history, 3 a Discover it ® Secured Card may be best for you. Similarly, students with limited or no credit history may find that a Discover student card better fits their financial needs. And remember, every Discover credit card earns rewards on purchases.

What are the benefits of Discover Cards?

Discover offers many benefits across our line of products. All Discover Cards offer rewards, either cash back or Miles, on each eligible purchase. Plus, only Discover automatically gives unlimited Cashback Match to all new cardmembers: we'll automatically match all the cash back you've earned at the end of your first year. 1 Also, Discover has no annual fee on any of our cards. We’re also serious about protecting your personal information, with benefits that include Online Privacy Protection , free Social Security number alerts , $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee , and more.

Why get a credit card?

There are many reasons to get a credit card: you may decide to apply for a credit card for the rewards, APR (including intro rates), or sign-up offers. Or you might want to build your credit history. Some credit cards, like Discover, provide $0 Fraud Liability Guarantee, which means you’re never responsible for unauthorized purchases on your Discover Card account. 5 Also, credit cards often provide extra benefits, like providing helpful alerts on your spending and more.

What is the minimum credit score needed to be approved for a credit card?

Different credit cards require a different credit rating for approval. Some cards are only for people with excellent credit or good credit. Other cards are great if you have fair credit or are building or rebuilding credit. The credit card company will run a credit check as part of its decision to approve your application. It’s a good idea to check your credit score or get a copy of your credit report before applying for a new card.

What should I know before applying online for a credit card?

It’s always good to check if you’re pre-approved to see your likely offers before you apply for a card. You can see if you’re  pre-approved  with no harm to your credit score, 7 but each full application for a credit card may impact your credit score.

‘Conan O’Brien Must Go’ Is the Best Version of Conan

The comedian’s new travel show proves he’s at his best away from the rigid confines of late night

After hundreds of episodes of Hot Ones , there’s little a guest can do to shake up the reliable formula of thoughtful questions combined with increasingly spicy chicken wings. But Conan O’Brien isn’t just any guest. Conan is someone who arrives with “Dr. Arroyo,” his personal physician, who, when asked where he went to medical school, answers “1998”; he deposits the remains of each wing into his jacket pocket; seemingly unfazed by the heat, he chugs hot sauces like they’re in tiny liquor bottles from a hotel minibar; he rubs the drumsticks on his hands, mouth, and, yes, nipples. Even as Conan’s pale complexion begins to resemble a ripe tomato, he remains committed to the bit, raising his body temperature by two degrees in a state of delirium. (According to Dr. Arroyo, of course.) Behold, the comedy GOAT:

a&o traveller card

Aside from being one of the funniest people on the planet, Conan seems to operate at the peak of his powers when surrounded by chaos. He was, for a time, our longest-tenured late-night host: He had a career on the airwaves that spanned nearly three decades, not unlike his icon, Johnny Carson. But while Conan could do the usual late-night beats in his sleep—the opening monologue, the celebrity interviews—he was never better than when things went completely off the rails. Consider: Conan used his last week as the short-lived host of The Tonight Show to waste NBC’s money on bringing a Kentucky Derby–winning horse to set; trolled his interns and staff in remote segments; introduced the world to his associate producer Jordan Schlansky, who gamely played a pretentious foil ; found an actual Tinder date with Dave Franco.

But some of Conan’s best work has been when he’s left the rigid confines of late night altogether. In 2015 Conan began a spinoff travel series, Conan Without Borders , in which he explored other countries armed with little more than his self-deprecating wit. “[Travel shows are] completely outside the realm of anything I do,” he explained to The New York Times in 2019. “They can be frightening because they take away a lot of control. I’m out there, I don’t often know what I’m going to encounter.” More often than not, it’s led to comedy gold. For instance, while he was taking a Japanese etiquette lesson, Conan’s instructor said that he wasn’t her type. The reason: “Face.”

Face . You could never script something so casually brutal; therein lies the magic. Most important, Conan never mocks other cultures to induce laughs—instead, he makes himself the butt of the joke, leaning into the bit of an ignorant tourist. But what truly elevated Conan Without Borders was how he could deftly weave in educational components and approach dark periods of a country’s history with genuine sensitivity. (Conan’s visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial with his longtime assistant, Sona Movsesian, is among the most emotionally resonant moments of his career.) Thankfully, even though Conan has bowed out of the late-night scene, he’s doubling down on the travelogues.

On Thursday—Conan’s birthday, no less—Max released Conan O’Brien Must Go , a four-part series that takes him to Norway, Argentina, Thailand, and Ireland. These destinations were inspired by his podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend , which, in addition to celebrity interviews, features conversations with fans from around the globe. (The fans frequently invite Conan to come visit their neck of the woods; few would ever imagine he’d take them up on the offer.) While Conan O’Brien Must Go doesn’t rely on celebrity cameos, every episode opens with Werner Herzog voice-over narration about the grandeur of Mother Earth and how, to fully appreciate its natural wonders, we must sometimes “defile it.” Rest assured, Conan the Defiler is more than up to the task.

What separates Conan O’Brien Must Go from his first travel show is the incorporation of those fans, including a Norwegian fish farmer, an Irish medical student, and an Argentine painter. The fans understandably react to Conan showing up at their front door with a mixture of shock and glee, but before they even get a chance to compose themselves, he playfully roasts their respective living situations. Nobody gets it worse than Jarle, a young Norwegian rapper who still sleeps with soccer-themed bedsheets from childhood and has bread so stale it lands with an audible thud when Conan drops it. “I’ll wipe the floor with you,” Conan tells Jarle, “which actually might be a good idea, because I think you’d pick up a lot of lint.”

The Ringer ’s Streaming Guide

A collage of characters from popular TV shows, from Barry to Succession

There’s a lot of TV out there. We want to help: Every week, we’ll tell you the best and most urgent shows to stream so you can stay on top of the ever-expanding heap of Peak TV.

But while it’s enjoyable in its own right to see Conan surprise fans, Conan O’Brien Must Go is never better than when he throws all caution to the wind mingling with the locals. One standout bit in Argentina involves a soccer team that invites Conan to its stadium, where he proceeds to take the sport’s reputation for theatrical diving to another level, with fake blood spurting out of his mouth. Argentina is also where Conan reunites with his archnemesis, Schlansky, who repeatedly corrects him on the proper pronunciation of tango over dinner. (Schlansky insists he’s right, even when the chefs disagree with him.) And while some comedians might have second thoughts if nobody seems entertained by their shenanigans, Conan always doubles down—if only for his own amusement. (The Argentine gauchos did not enjoy his singing talents.)

Despite all the silliness that’s part of the Conan experience, Conan O’Brien Must Go also manages to have moments of real profundity. For one, Conan uses the Ireland episode to explore his own heritage, culminating with a visit to the patch of rural farmland that belonged to his ancestors. It puts everything into perspective: His forebears fled the Irish famine for America, and their descendant returned with a camera crew and decades of fame and success under his belt. Truly, what are the odds? But what really tugs at the heartstrings is a brief video from the Norwegian fish farmer Kai, who explains how Conan’s visit to his small town completely changed his life. It’s genuinely heartwarming stuff, proving that comedy can achieve more than just laughs when it’s approached with curiosity and empathy.

It’s been three years since Conan last graced our screens, and his absence really underlined that he’s one of one. You can’t imagine anyone else showing up to a foreign country and reacting to situations on the fly without everything falling apart at the seams. But as Conan proved time and again during his late-night tenure, that’s where great comedy can be found: among the people, whether it’s in the streets of Harlem or a Civil War reenactment . Conan’s late-night career went through many phases , all of them worthy, but in retrospect, it feels like the format was holding him back. Conan O’Brien Must Go isn’t just a hilarious return to form: It’s one of the best things he’s ever done. Let’s hope the show’s Season 2 renewal will be a matter of when, not if. With Conan at the helm, there are so many more countries worth exploring—and defiling.

VENICE: In Venice tourists pay the "tassa soggiorno", a residence tax for tourists who stay overnight, depending on the high or low season and the type and location of the accommodation.

a&o Venice Mestre is a "Foresterie per Turisti" accommodation on the mainland. This means, that in the main season (1 February - 31 December) you pay only 1.40 € per person and night (all 16 years and older). In the low season (month of January) it is 1 € per person and night.

Getting to a&o

Du har altså to muligheder for at booke hos a&o:

Vi anbefaler CityCards her!

Vil mit værelse på a&o hostel blive rengjort?

Børn under 7 år sover gratis i forældrenes værelse. Du finder mere information her.

I vores online-shop finder du derudover mange flere  interessante artikler.

Hvordan er priserne hos a&o sammensat?

Hvis du bor hos a&o i en længere periode, tilbyder a&o dig eksklusive fordele for faste gæster via Traveller Card.
