Camp Helen State Park Beach

Camp Helen State Park Beach probably isn’t the first beach that comes to mind when you think of beaches in Panama City Florida. But Camp Helen is everything you could want in a state park and is definitely worth the trip away from other Panama City beaches in Florida. 

Camp Helen is really a geology marvel; it is both one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida and the rarest in the world. To find others like it you would need to travel to Australia! Not only that but this park has an incredible ancient history; they have found evidence here to show that humans inhabited the area more than 4000 years ago!

There are sandy beaches, with shallow parts perfect for young children, some of the best hiking in Florida , and even kayak rentals to add a fun activity to your beach outing. You can choose to swim at the beach on the Gulf of Mexico or head over to Lake Powell which is located in the same park.

There is parking on site but plan to arrive early as it can fill up fast and, of course, there are restrooms available. Plan for about a 10 minute to walk from the parking to the beach. 

It only takes a little over half an hour to get here from Panama City and it is definitely one of the beaches near Panama City that you can make a day trip out of. The park is open from 8am to sunset everyday of the year and is only $4 per vehicle to enter!

Panama City Beach and Pier

When you think of beaches in Panama City the Panama City Beach and Pier Park area is probably what you think of first. This is one of the best beaches in Panama City and is the most popular beach in the United States with college students and families alike. 

To get the most of this beach plan on heading to the Pier Park area. Here you can arrange all sorts of rentals, have so many food options at your fingertips including some of the best restaurants in Panama City , and you have a nice big stretch of sugary soft white sand which is often synonymous with Panama City Beaches. There are also movie theatres, lots of shopping and kid activities like laser tag at Pirate’s Quest Laser Tag! It’s an area that people often spend their entire holiday in because of the variety available.

If you are looking for something more on the adventure side this beach is also a must see. Panama City beach is one of the best places in Florida for scuba diving . It even has more than 150 dive locations! Even the more recent dive locations are attracting plenty of sealife for you to check out. You are sure to find something to explore and wildlife to visit when you go scuba diving here; this area even has the claim to fame of having the largest population in the world of bottle nose dolphins!

There are also lots of places to grab snacks; be sure to try the dole whip from the snack stands at the beginning of the pier. If you haven’t tried it yet, it is definitely a must! There are also places to find parking and restrooms available.

Speaking of the pier, if you are looking to do some fishing this is a great spot. The pier is nice and long (1500 feet!) and so there is plenty of room for people to enjoy a walk along the pier or to set up and try some fishing for the day. There is a daily fee for fishing but it’s pretty nominal at $7 per person (children 6 and under are free). If you are just there to enjoy the scene on the pier the price is only $4 per person for a day pass.

You will find everything you need for enjoying many days at the beach here. Between shopping, snorkling, scuba diving, movies, and the actual beach you certainly won’t be bored!

Shell Island

As far as beaches in Panama City FL are concerned Shell Island is a more rustic beach and only 30 minutes from Panama City. It is an undeveloped 7 mile stretch of beach. Once you arrive you can set up on either the bay side or the ocean side. They are both great but if you are looking for calmer and shallower waters then you are best to stick to the bay side. And, if you ever change your mind it is just a short walk between the two. 

The Island (which isn’t actually an island) is named for all the shells that used to be found there and it’s one of the most beautiful shelling beaches in Florida . The beach has become a little more popular but there still shells to be found; just be sure the shells aren’t a home for an animal first! And there are plenty of animals that can be spotted there! Beachgoers have spotted dolphins, sting rays, deer and even endangered species like the green sea turtles!

While this is definitely one of the best beaches near Panama City you will want to make sure you plan ahead. The beach itself has no services so you need to bring everything with you. As for getting there, you will need to arrange a boat to cross over which is easy to do with Shell Island Shuttle – they have several boats and even dolphin and snorkel tours available. 

If you are just hoping for a boat ride to and back from the island then the shuttle is your best bet. Be sure to book ahead on their website ($22.95/adult $15.95/child) and make sure you put their new address into your navigation. They are located at 5709 N Lagoon Drive only 20 minutes from downtown Panama City.

An awesome bonus of heading across on the boats is that you get a chance to see a lot more marine animals on your way to the beach. Any way you choose to get there you are sure to enjoy yourself at one of the best beaches in Panama City just be be sure to take what you need with you! 

Saint Andrews State Park Beach

Saint Andrews State Park Beach is another one of the beaches in Panama City that shouldn’t be missed. This state park is an absolute gem; it is 1200 acres and loaded with things to do. Not only that, but with a 20 minute drive from Panama City you could be at one of the best beaches in Panama City in no time! It truly is one of the best things to do in Panama City Florida !

The park itself has several beaches available and it is usually much less crowded than more popular beaches. Despite being a beach that attracts less people you aren’t losing out on amenities available. There are paddle board rentals available, fishing sites, restrooms and plenty of the famous Florida sugar sand. If you want to extend your time here you can also camp in the park.

One of the awesome things about this beach is that the sea shelf stays level for a good distance in the area by the pier. This means that the water is only about 4 feet deep for a nice large swim area. It makes it easier to enjoy the water! And, when you are all done for the day, they have showers available for you to wash off the sand before hopping back into your car.

Saint Andrews State Park Beach is also known for being a great beach for beginner surfers to learn at. You can also enjoy amazing snorkling, walks among pine trees and scuba diving. Saint Andrews State Park Beach is open every day of the year from 8am to sunrise and is only $8 per vehicle to enter. 

Crooked Island Beach

Crooked Island Beach is a treasure among the beaches in Panama City. Crooked Island beach is 30 minutes from Panama City and so unique because it doesn’t attract tourists which equates to a quiet beach for you!

The amenities on the beach aren’t many but there is parking, a toilet and plenty of soft sand. The waves here are pretty gentle as well so it’s easy to enjoy a dip in the water. Sting rays, fish, crab and even dolphins are spotted here frequently so you may luck out with some extra nature to enjoy. It’s also a really great spot to look for shells on the beach and the area is also really good for fishing. 

There are a few things to be aware of while planning your day at Crooked Island Beach. Due to Crooked Island Beach’s secluded nature there aren’t any lifeguards on duty so you swim at your own risk. In recent years Crooked Island Beach has been incorporated to Tyndale Airforce Base so you will need to make sure you have a permit to head in. 

Also, after Hurricane Micheal the access road was partly washed out so now you park a little further and have about a mile long walk. It is worth the walk though and it is definitely one of the beaches near Panama City that you need to check out! 

Seaside Beach

Seaside beach has so many things going for it that it is a must see of beaches in Panama City FL! 

The beach is located on the shore of Seaside Florida and between perfectly manicured lawns, white picket fences, pristine white beaches and that famous emerald coast it could be straight out of a movie scene – and it is! This idyllic location was where they filmed the Truman Show. And Seaside Florida not only has one of the best beaches near Panama City FL but the town is one that you will want to stay and hang out in.

Along the mile and a half stretch of beach you can find your favourite uniquely designed Pavillion (there are 9 of them!), snap some fun photos and then choose which one you want to enter the beach from. 

If you are at the beach early on a weekday you can also enjoy a yoga class at the Pavillion; bring cash to pay or venmo, a mat (or use your towel!) and a water bottle and enjoy a little prebeach relaxation! Classes are first come first serve so arrive early; class starts at 8:30am. 

The beach itself is well kept and easy to get to with a gentle surf that is great for families. There is parking nearby for $15 a day and you will need to get wristbands for beach access but it is definitely worth the trip. 

You can stay the whole day and watch the sun set which is one of the best ways to close a day at the beach! There are so many fun things to do in Seaside that you will be able to make the most of your weekend! 

Grayton Beach

Less than an hour away from Panama City you will find one of the beautiful beaches in Panama City. It is Grayton Beach in the Grayton Beach state park. 

Entrance to the park is only $5 per car which is awesome and they have parking. The park opens at 8am each day until sunset but we advise to arrive early as they will close the gates when they reach capacity. This may sound like it will be a busy beach but it’s for that reason that the beach stays uncrowded! Arriving early ensures that you are one of those people on a beach that won’t allow many people.

The state park has several amenities. During the core season there are programs run by volunteers and rangers, you can rent kayaks, canoes or paddle boards to use on the lake, you could camp out with your own tent or RV, you could glamp in one of the coolest places for glamping in Florida or you could just lay back on the mile long beach and soak up the feel of the sun and the sound of the waves. They also do a great job of keeping their on site bathrooms clean!

Grayton Beach is also not to far from other beaches near Panama City FL that we’ve mentioned so you can easily spend a weekend trying out a few of them to pick your favourite! While you are in the area be sure to check out the nearby Red Bar restaurant – even the locals love it! Grayton Beach is definitely one of the Panama City Beaches in Florida that you are going to want to check out.

Deer Lake Beach

Located in Deer Lake State Park this is one of those sometimes elusive beaches in Panama City that still feels secluded. There are several sand dunes and plenty of sand on this beach and not a lot of people. What’s really great is that there are no homes along the beach so it feels even more remote! And if you are there between May and October it’s also sea turtle nesting season – just be sure not to take flashlights on the beach! 

Like other state parks the park is open from 8am to sundown every day of the year. The park also boasts a rare coastal dune lake which can only be found in the US along the Gulf Coast and in very few places. Entrance to the park is only $3 per car for entrance just be sure to bring exact change as you pay in an honor box instead of to an attendant! You can also pay using a QR code posted at the entrance.

There is parking and restrooms on site but you will want to plan on bringing along your food and drinks as there are no food places. This really is one of the great beaches near Panama City to head to if you want a relaxing beach visit. 

As you walk along the boardwalk to the beach you can check out the ancient dune system which has several endangered species that call it home. Be sure to bring a cart/wagon for your beach things as the boardwalk from parking to the beach is quite long! 

There is also a 1.5 mile nature trail to enjoy a beautiful walk. You can also see how many wildlife you can spot; sea turtles, deer and snowy plover are just a few of the animals you may see. It is sure to be a restorative, low key trip to the beach at Deer Lake beach. 

Santa Rosa Beach

Located in the South Walton area, Santa Rosa Beach is the largest (and oldest!) of the beach communities found here so when you are looking for beaches in Panama City this is sure to be on your list. The town itself was even named one of the top 5 favourite neighborhoods in America by Travel + Leisure! 

The beach front itself can be found on the beautiful emerald coast about an hour from Panama City. There are restrooms and parking available and plenty of events that happen here.

The town area called Gulf Place right near the beach is known for it’s artsy vibe and was designed to have a laid back feel. All the shops here are locally owned and are definitely worth a visit. Be sure to stop by! 

The laidback nature of this beach and the shops make this an ideal beach for couples that want a part of that sugarsand beach to themselves or for families that don’t want to be around the party beaches but still want a unique beach vibe. Santa Rosa Beach is definitely one of the beaches near Panama City Florida that has a unique, artsy, laid back vibe that you’ll enjoy. 

If you are looking for a busy beach with a lot of vacations rentals around this is not the beach for you. While there are plenty of events held both at the beach and at Gulf Place they are all set around sitting back and enjoying the time melt away before you. If you spend a day here you will be so glad that you did. Be sure to stay around for the sunset as it is a location not to be missed!

Rosemary Beach

We couldn’t talk about beaches in Panama City FL without mentioning Rosemary Beach. This beach is less than an hour from Panama City and is a great getaway. 

Since the beach has been privatized you will need to be a resident or staying in the area to have beach access. If you stay in the area you are given access to the private beach. The advantage to this is that the private beach never gets particularly crowded (with Spring break being an exception like most Florida beaches), already has beach chairs set up and is kept incredibly clean! 

Staying in the area is also a really great thing because it’s a gorgeous beach town. With wrap around porches, gables, wood beams and shuttered windows there is actually a fun French Quarter feel to the area with a distinct European touch. There is also plenty of shopping in the area and all the resources that you could possibly need during your stay. 

If you would like to experience the area but don’t have the time to or funds to stay overnight to get beach access then check out the nearby Inlet Beach. It is only a mile away and is a public access beach. Heading to Inlet Beach lets you enjoy the best of both worlds;  the beautiful shops and restaurants at Rosemary Beach and the amazingly beautiful Inlet Beach just a mile away! These are two great beaches in Panama City Beach that do not disappoint!

The eight-mile stretch of Panama City Beach is one of the most active and popular oceanfront scenes in the city. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico, so the water is clear and blue, with ocean breezes coming in as often as the tide. There is a great history associated with this beach, identified by the remnants of the mounds left from inhabitants nearly 4,000 years ago. In the 1920s, a hotel occupied the property, but it was torn down after a fire and replaced with a private residence in the 1930s. The land became a resort for employees of a textile company between 1945 and 1987 before it became a Florida State Park in 1996 and opened to the public.

Walk along the beach and through the park to experience some of the interactive and educational displays . Though you may not spend a full beach day at Rick Stelzer Park, it is worth a visit while you are in Panama City Beach.

The pier itself is one of the reasons visitors like this beach because you can walk it with a day pass (small fee) and have the best seat in the city for the Panama City Beach sunsets. A pier pass allows you to come and go for the entire day.

The pier extends 1,500 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, making it a nice diversion during the day. It is a popular spot for fishing, bird-watching, and looking below to see marine life, including the occasional dolphin. Anglers can fish from the pier with a day license to target flounder, hardtails, pompano, redfish, cobia, and other species. Bait and rod rentals are available from the pier office.

And you don't even have to go to a restaurant to enjoy the city's bounty: some of the best eateries are actually seafood markets that steam and season their freshest catches right in front of you. Anderson Seafood Market and Buddy's Seafood Market both come recommended by recent visitors.

If you're looking for a more formal environment, Saltwater Grill (which boasts a 25,000-gallon tropical saltwater aquarium inside the restaurant) and Capt. Anderson's Restaurant & Waterfront Market both received high marks from recent diners. Firefly is another local and traveler favorite thanks to its unique setting: the restaurant is arranged around a giant lit-up oak tree.

You'll also find plenty of casual beachfront eateries (try Schnoors or Sharky's ). Though they cater mainly to tourists, it's hard to deny their prime locations, especially if you want to catch a classic Panama City Beach sunset.

Here's a place in Panama City Beach you might not be aware of: Camp Helen State Park. This scenic nature destination has a white sand beach for swimming. Camp Helen State Park is also home to Lake Powell, ideal for kayaking and paddleboarding. If needed, rentals are available at the park. Fishing is allowed at Lake Powell, and there are a few different hiking trails. In other words, this is the place to go if you want a beach day and outdoor adventure.

One person on Tripadvisor wrote, "If you enjoy a day, walking along trails, with nature all around, kayaking in the Gulf of Mexico, swimming in emerald, green water, camping, listening to wildlife, as you turn in, for the evening, then you need to plan a visit."

In addition, Camp Helen State Park is a historic site. In fact, according to Florida State Parks , nine buildings in the park are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, some of which predate the 1940s. Make sure to check these out during your visit. Camp Helen State Park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. Admission ranges from $2 to $4. Note that there is no lifeguard on duty.

St. Andrews State Park

St. Andrews State Park is a little-known paradise located in Panama City Beach. It's rated on Tripadvisor as No. 2 of 52 things to do in Panama City — even receiving a Traveler's Choice award in 2023 — and features deep blue waters and a white sand shore. An array of activities are available, including swimming, snorkeling, wildlife viewing, and more. In addition, there is a shallow lagoon swimming area available for children. Snorkel gear can be rented at the park's concession stand, and the park also offers a dolphin snorkel tour.

But that's not all. Visitors can also rent pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddleboards for a half or full day. All rentals and tours can be booked online . Overall, St. Andrews State Park is perfect for those wanting an adventurous beach day with family or friends. The park is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. Admission is $8 per vehicle (two or more individuals are included for this price). If you work up an appetite during your beach time, a small eatery in the park serves fast-food classics and cold drinks.

For those who want to extend their beach day, camping is available at St. Andrews State Park for $28 a night. Tents and RVs are welcome, and each site features water and electricity. You can make a reservation online . For a unique experience, book an eco-tent instead.

It's a barrier island featuring seven miles of uninhabited beach and is known for being a popular swimming and snorkeling spot. With 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor , it's renowned for its beauty and secluded ambiance. Picture white sand, crystal clear waters, and nothing else — not even bathrooms. Thus, if you plan on visiting Shell Island, bring your drinks, snacks, chairs, and anything else you might need for the day.

There are also no trash cans on the island, so everything you bring with you must also be brought back with you. Visitors can take a ferry from the mainland to Shell Island. One provider is the Shell Island Shuttle. It departs from Panama City Beach and takes 15 minutes to arrive to Shell Island. At the time of this publication, a roundtrip ticket is less than $30 for children and adults. You can purchase tickets online .

The Shell Island Shuttle's hours vary per season. Consider when the last boat departs from Shell Island, so you know when to wrap up your beach day. If you are interested, you can also rent snorkeling gear with the Shell Island Shuttle.

Santa Rosa Beach

Santa Rosa Beach is a hidden treasure an hour away from Panama City. It's part of 30A, a Florida highway known for its stunning beaches. Panama City Beach, Florida, is the ultimate dream holiday spot for many people. With its flowing palm trees and sugar sand beaches, this tropical paradise attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world throughout the year.

You’ll understand why so many people consider it the ultimate vacation spot: There is never a shortage of things to do in Panama City Beach! For every sort of traveler, this coastal town is an outdoor playground full of attractions and activities!

Lying across the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida, Panama City Beach is a hotspot for vacationers, and it’s easy to see why. The long stretch of sugar-white beaches is thriving with beach bums of all ages throughout the year. Couples come here for a sun-kissed honeymoon, families to spend quality time together and young souls to celebrate a long weekend. And then there was me. I was here to find the hottest attractions and best things to do in Panama City Beach, affectionately called PCB. It wasn’t hard to do.

The Best Attractions, Activities & Things To Do in Panama City Beach (PCB) Florida

1. indulge at the the yard milkshake bar.

How’d you like a milkshake with a whole cupcake sticking out of the top or an entire waffle peeking out of a mound of whipped cream? At The Yard Milkshake Bar , you will not believe your eyes as you are dazzled with some of the craziest treats. They’re not just for kids!  Whether you choose the Cookie Monster (that was my choice), the Cereal Killer or any of the other decadent desserts, I dare you to eat the whole thing.

Tip: We went at around 12:30 p.m. on a Sunday, and the line was about a half-hour long (with a 20 minute wait after ordering). But, by the time we left the place at around 2 p.m., there was no line at all.

2. Get an Epic View from the SkyWheel Ferris Wheel

Get ready for your breath to be taken away with the spectacular view of Panama City Beach on board the 53-meter SkyWheel ! The gondola ride offers a relaxing experience and is perfect for taking that Instagram-worthy photo (or video!).

If you want to bring things up a notch, their VIP pass gives you free drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), double the flight time, and the chance to ride their VIP gondola. It has a glass-bottom floor, giving you more opportunities to take that perfect shot!

3. Take a Boat Ride to Shell Island

Shell Island is a seven-mile island on the Florida Emerald Coast with picturesque white sand beaches. It’s fun for locals and visitors of Panama City Beach to rent a pontoon and spend the day enjoying the sand and sun. Plus, there’s a strong possibility of seeing some dolphins along the way!

It is a beautiful barrier island punctuated with magnificent sand dunes and coastal sage scrub. The beach is flourishing with creatures, including shorebirds, turtles and deer. While there, I found lots of shells (of course), plenty of secluded spots to relax and even a starfish — the perfect way to spend a lazy day.

Our transportation to the island was provided by Lagoon Pontoon . We stocked it with goodies for lunch, plenty of drinks (a cooler filled with Fresca!) and the beach essentials. They provided the coolest ride with all the safety accouterments onboard and two slides that attached to the back.

4. Believe It or Not at Ripley’s

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is the go-to place in Panama City Beach for those who want to explore the strange and unbelievable. Their ‘Odditorium’ houses bizarre exhibits from around the globe that people of all ages will enjoy.

Their 7D Moving Theater provides an immersive experience with its 3D movies and motion seats. The Marvelous Mirror Maze will challenge your eyes with its maze of infinity mirrors, with a treasure waiting at the end. If you’re up to the challenge, the Impossible Laser Race will test your skills in navigating your way through laser beams like in spy movies.

5. Get a Finn’s Original Fish Taco

It’s always taco time at Finn’s Island Style Grub , home of Finn’s original fish tacos. The ahi taco and their signature fish taco are some of the best, but there are plenty of others to choose from at this food-truck-style eatery. While you’re waiting for your order, pop into their barista bar next door and order a Black Salt Mocha. You won’t be disappointed!

6. Eat Seafood (Pineapple Willy’s)

What better way to enjoy your beach trip than indulge yourself with fresh seafood, and Pineapple Willy’s restaurant won’t disappoint! Boasting a wide variety of seafood dishes, from fried oysters to grilled shrimp to fileted Mahi-Mahi, your mouth and tummy will keep coming for more.

And to add to your overall experience, you can also enjoy the live music performances while having a drink at Willy’s Pier Bar. All in all, this is something that you definitely should try!

7. Take a Dolphin Sunset Cruise

Dolphins and sunsets — it doesn’t get much better than that. Island Time Sailing will take you on a 2-hour cruise that swishes you through Grand Lagoon and onto the Gulf of Mexico in search for Flipper and his friends — we saw plenty dolphins on our cruise! Grab a drink and a snack, then end the evening with a beautiful sunset across the emerald waters.

8. See a Show at Todd Herendeen Theatre

Looking for a night of classic rock & country music? Then don’t miss the ‘Tribute to the Legends of Music’ performances of National Recording Artist Todd Herendeen and his band at the Todd Herendeen Theatre , performed several nights a week.

You can walk in at any time to enjoy the show, and you can also bring your own beer or wine! Dinners are only available through reservations, so make sure to book in advance if in case you’re planning to have your dinner here as well.

9. Have a Beach Bonfire

Cornhole, s’mores and a cooler filled with adult beverages, plus a bonfire on the Panama City Beach oceanfront— that’s what you are going to get with Endless Beach Rentals . The company swoops in and sets up EVERYTHING for you (from chairs to hammocks to a stocked cooler), then they come and clean everything up. No fuss, no muss. Your only job is to show up and have fun!

10. Enjoy at Swampy Jack’s Wongo Adventure

Get ready to join Swampy Jack’s Wongo Adventure on his adventures over the world in this premier theme park destination! The theme park features different rides like the Swamp Ape, Eye of the Kraken, and much more. Each ride gives its own one-of-a-kind enjoyable experience, with some paying homage to classic rides that people enjoyed in Panama City Beach (with their own added twist!).

Feeling a bit more competitive? You can also try the Marrakesh Road Rally and race against other people around the track in different race modes. And did I mention that you can have a Mario Kart-like experience in their Power-Up race mode?

Note: they are only open seasonally, so check their website before your visit!

11. Get Donuts at the Iconic Thomas’ Donuts & Snack Shop

Forget the breakfast omelettes and pancakes, because at the family-owned Thomas’ Donuts & Snack Shack it’s all about the fluffy dunkers. It is a haven for donut lovers! They have everything from the classic glazed to key lime filled. I can vouch for the red velvet cake. And the chocolate sprinkle. And the cinnamon twist. Don’t judge.

They also serve a handful of other breakfast items, like muffins, biscuits and breakfast sandwiches.

FYI: There is almost always a line in the morning, so get there really early or plan on waiting. We arrived at 10: a.m. on the weekend, and the queue was about 20 people deep.

12. Have an Animal Adventure at ZooWorld Panama City Beach

Get up close and personal with the wildlife at ZooWorld Zoological and Botanical Conservatory . Home to hundreds of exotic animals, from kangaroos to lions to sloths and so much more, this park will take you on an adventure trip around the world!

You also get to experience petting and feeding animals like lemurs and baby bearded dragons, not to mention the free kisses that you will get from the giraffes :) This is one experience you can’t miss!

13. Walk Russell-Fields City Pier

The Russell-Fields City Pier sits at the end of Pier Park and stretches 1,500 feet out into the Gulf of Mexico. You can pay a small fee ($3) to be able to take the short stroll to the end. It is worth it!

You can also get a nice view of the pier (and some great fish tacos) by sitting on the patio of Hook’d Pier Bar & Grill.

14. Go Sightseeing at Sea Dragon Pirate Cruise

Board the Sea Dragon on a voyage with Capt. “Fearless” Phil and his friendly pirate crew! Though the activities on board are more geared towards kids, adults will enjoy the whole sightseeing tour from start to finish. If you are lucky, you will get to see dolphins as well!

For a more scenic experience, you can book the sunset cruise (which costs a few extra dollars). Yummy snacks like hotdogs & candies and drinks for both kids and adults are available on the ship.

15. Do a Tasting at Panama City Beach Winery

Panama City Beach Winery specializes in fruit wines and is the only registered citrus winery in the United States. Their wines are made with 100 percent real fruit and no added sugar to the finish. Their blackberry wine literally has four pounds of blackberries in every bottle!

Stop by for a free tasting and take a bottle (or two) back to the beach with you. Don’t miss trying the Key Lime wine — it was my favorite and has won a number of awards!

16. Take a Panama City Beach Helicopter Tour

If there is one thing that makes Panama City Beach worth returning to, it’s the helicopter tours. The views on the ground and the sea are already spectacular, but seeing Panama City Beach up in the air provides a different perspective of its beauty and splendor.

If you haven’t tried riding a helicopter before, now is your chance to do so! You can also try a wildlife helicopter tour if you want something a little different. You’ll be able to see turtles, stingrays, and even sharks! They’ll get you close enough to see the magnificent creatures while also keeping enough distance as not to disturb them.

Panhandle Helicopters has a variety of tours for you to choose from!

17. Have Fun at Pier Park

Pier Park is the place to shop the beachy boutiques, get fruity drinks (served in a pineapple!) and indulge in beachfront restaurants. It has the whole package. There are more than 120 retail stores where you can buy clothes, shoes, accessories and even furniture. Plus, if you are a fan of Ferris wheels, you can get a whole new perspective of Florida’s Panama City Beach on the Skywheel that soars 200 feet above Pier Park. You can see for miles!

If you want to explore the Pier Park at a leisurely pace, then I suggest you go early in the morning before it gets too busy and hot.

18. Play at Rock’it Lanes

Looking for some fun indoor activities for kids (or kids at heart)? Housing a bowling alley, a mega arcade, a roller skating rink, and a bar & grille, Rock’it Lanes will surely keep you entertained for hours and hours on end!

Aside from regular bowling, they host bowling tourneys (Monday Night Mania & Thirsty Thursday) where you can win bar tabs. Their mega arcade has the latest games in the market and redeemable prizes that include bicycles to gaming consoles (yes, gaming consoles!). Last but not least, you can skate all day at their roller skating rink for only a couple of dollars.

19. Do Brunch

21. Do a Double-Take of the Upside Down Building

WonderWorks is an amusement park that combines education and entertainment. Inside you can feel the power of a 71 mph hurricane and make life-sized bubbles. But, you don’t even need to go inside to get a little taste of the fun. The exterior is built like an upside down building, and it’s worth at least a drive-by. You can kill two birds with one stone because right across the street is a ginormous ship replica that is home to Ripley’s Believe it or Not.

22. Swim at Panama City Beach

Take a splash in the different beaches around Panama Beach City. Some popular ones to go to are Camp Helen State Park, St. Andrews State Park (perfect for kids!), and Laguna Beach. Most of the beaches in the area are also open for different activities like kayaking and snorkeling.

Aside from the beaches, Panama City Beach’s resorts, hotels, and condos have some of the best pools in the state. Choose from huge pools with waterslides, a lazy river, and a poolside grill/bar to peaceful, boutique pools where the only sound is the air rustling the palm trees.

23. Explore the Pretty Parks

St. Andrews State Park is surrounded by water — the Gulf on one side and the bay on the other. You can either enjoy a relaxing sunbathe on the beach, explore the dunes or walk one of the two nature trails. The 180-acre Camp Helen State Park is also bordered by the gulf, in addition to Lake Powell. It is one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida with plenty of activities. Have fun searching for wildlife, swimming, fishing and strolling around the refurbished textile mill buildings. If hiking is your main goal for the day, then the 24 miles of unpaved trails at Conservation Park is a must (bikers can also enjoy the 2900-acre park!).

24. Take a Dip at Pitt and Sylvan Springs

The crystal clear waters of Pitt and Sylvan Springs is enough invitation to get in and take a swim. Surrounded by trees and other vegetation, with birds flying about every now and then, you’ll see why it draws in visitors all year round.

Aside from swimming, you can also rent a canoe and explore around the spring. You and your loved ones can also enjoy a picnic at designated areas while enjoying the ambiance of nature.

25. Get Wet at the Shipwreck Island Waterpark

If you want a break from the beautiful beaches, awaken your inner child at the Shipwreck Island Waterpark. Boasting amazing waterslides, wave pools, and lazy rivers, the tropical water park is one of the most fun attractions in Panama City Beach. Their 500,000-gallon Ocean Motion Wave pool creates three foot waves to splash around in or you can opt to meander down the lazy river. Mexico Beach is also a haven for watersports of all types, which include boating, sailing, and kayaking, to name a few. Locally-owned businesses and antiques also offer a variety of souvenirs.

29. Play Putt Putt Golf at Coconut Creek

Panama City Beach Florida is more than pristine white sand beaches (though that is enough to bring you there, isn’t it?), there are fun attractions for family members of every age (not just the kids). If you’re looking for more of a home atmosphere (or are traveling with a group of people), head over to VRBO that has houses, apartments and even just a room for rent in every price range.

Getting Around: Renting a car in Panama City Beach is the best to really experience the island and RentalCars.com has some great deals. If you are not renting a car, there are a few other options. It is possible to get around by taxi, but that can get quite expensive (especially if you want to check all the things to do in Panama City Beach off this bucket list). If you have more time, another choice would be the Bay Town Trolly which runs between the beaches for $1.50 per trip (or $4.00 for a day pass).

I’m not sure when the last time you were on Shell Island, but we were just there a few weeks ago, and did NOT find one shell. Very disappointing. We walked about a 1/2 mile and nothing. :(

Although Panama City sits along the water, there are no swimmable beaches within city limits. But no need to worry. There are plenty of beautiful beaches to choose from that are just a short drive away © Sam Edwards / Getty Images

Sandy adventures in the slithering, bicoastal isthmus of Panama often begin in its skyscraper-filled capital, Panama City . The majestic towers along the water give the impression that this metropolis is a beach city, but it actually sits along a bay, and there are no swimmable beaches within city limits. 

Just minutes away by car, however, there are countless scenic spots to splash around and lay footprints in the sand. 

Sip a sundown cocktail at LOST Urban Beach Club

The beach at LOST Urban Beach Club is not a natural wonder, but it is a destination you don’t want to miss. This manmade sandy spot is situated at the sail-shaped JW Marriott Panama, the most iconic building in Panama City’s skyline. Days spent here are for sipping palette-pleasing cocktails and feasting on sushi as you take refuge from the bustle of the city in the Punta Pacifica neighborhood.

Sunbathe on Playa El Tuco, Casco Viejo

The last real beach within Panama City, Playa El Tuco is a tiny stretch tucked away in the old town of Casco Viejo . You’ll find it behind the Arco Chato ruins at the end of Calle 3a Oeste.

Veering into these waters isn’t recommended due to sanitation concerns, but it’s a great place to lay down a towel, sunbathe and enjoy some sweet solitude. There’s a high chance you’ll have this recreational zone to yourself – it’s rather underutilized, even by Panama City residents.

Top things to do in Panama City  

For a quick escape from the city, try Veracruz Beach

Veracruz Beach won’t win any beauty pageant awards, but it does the trick when you’re in urgent need of salty water. About a half-hour drive by car, Veracruz is the closest beach to Panama City. What it lacks in looks, it makes up for with beach bars and restaurants offering day-to-night fun and fantastic seafood. 

Pay a visit to Praia Fish & Drinks to take a photo on the water swings and to mingle with a cosmopolitan crowd on weekends.

Bask in the black sand at Coronado

Palm-fringed Coronado is about an hour from Panama City depending on traffic, and it’s located in Panama’s Dry Arch (Arco Seco) which receives the lowest annual rainfall in the country. A wild beauty with black and white sand, sun-seekers will enjoy playing beach volleyball, renting paddleboards or touring the laid-back, expansive beach on horseback.

Top things to do in Casco Viejo  

Surf the waves at El Palmar

El Palmar is one of the best beaches around Panama City. Just 90 minutes from the capital in the district of San Carlos, the living is easy and the surf is great on this pleasing swathe of sand.  

Surf schools abound to help novices find their feet in the water, and experienced surfers will enjoy the waves here, too. Those that prefer to stay dry can visit the nearby town of San Carlos which is just a 10-minute walk from the beach. 

Kitesurf on Punta Chame

Around 90 minutes from the capital by car, Punta Chame is a slender peninsula that pokes out into the Pacific Ocean. The strong winds and the rock- and obstacle-free waters make it hugely popular for kitesurfers. 

Head to Panama Kite Center to get suited and booted for your aquatic adventures. You can secure accommodations in Punta Chame (options include studios and glamping tents) and book excursions to nearby Isla Taborcillo, a deserted island once owned by actor John Wayne. 

How to spend the perfect weekend in Panama City 

For an easy island getaway, head to Taboga Island

If you don’t have access to a car or prefer not to drive to your tropical haven, nearby Taboga Island is your best bet. The “Island of Flowers," as Taboga is affectionately called, is a mere 30-minute ferry ride away, and it’s the quickest – and most picturesque – escape to paradise from the capital.

The journey there starts on Panama City’s charming Amador Causeway, which is home to the world’s first biodiversity museum and four manmade islands called Culebra, Perico, Naos and Flamenco. Head to the latter to board the Taboga Express fast ferry, and you’ll be sipping piña coladas beachside in no time. 

Once on Taboga , relax on Playa Restinga, the most popular beach, or hike through sweet-smelling bougainvillea and rolling hills – Cerro Vigia and Cerro de la Cruz are the highest points – to uncover sweeping views of Panama City. If possible, avoid the urban escapee crowds by visiting Taboga on a weekday.

Snorkel the day away at San Blas

The beaches of the San Blas Islands are otherworldly, spotless and staggering. Some of Panama’s most postcard-worthy isles are situated in this 365-strong archipelago on Panama’s Caribbean coast. 

You can traipse along ghost-white sand, peer under clear waters teeming with fluorescent tropical fish, island-hop to find snorkel-worthy sunken ships and meet the local Guna population that inhabits this protected paradise. Purchase colorful traditional Mola fabrics and dine on the catch of the day with your island hosts under a thatched roof.

San Blas is a three-hour ride to the port of Cartí from Panama City; an impossible drive without a 4x4. Many visitors hire cars for the winding journey, but package tours including transportation are recommended over self-guided visits. At Cartí, boats wait to transport travelers to the island(s) of their daydreams.

Even just a day trip to San Blas is well worth the journey, but staying overnight is certainly advisable for next-level stargazing under palm trees.

Do all the things at Bocas del Toro

If you fly from Panama City to the Archipelago de  Bocas del Toro , within an hour you’ll be on incredible beaches with enchanting names like Wizard Beach, Red Frog Beach and Starfish Beach – one of the most famous and best swimming beaches in Panama.

In Bocas – as locals refer to it – there are nine islands to suit every desire and intensity of activity. You can spot pods of dolphins during day trips to the sandal-shaped Zapatilla Cays, hang loose with bats at the Nividia cave on Isla Bastimentos, take in a glorious sunset beside manta rays at a beachside bar on Isla Carenero or catch a wave at a world-renowned surf beach such as Playa Bluff on Isla Colon. 

Best of all, travelers can live a charmed existence as they're ferried between these islands on delightful water taxis called lanchas.

Whether you're looking for a summer hotspot full of excitement and entertainment and brimming with crowds, or want to escape to a quieter small town this season, the shores on the East Coast have a little something for everyone. From charming, historic New England towns to tropical Southern getaways, there is so much to explore this summer.

There are 14 states that make up this stretch of the US, and each one has its own atmosphere, climate, and culture. From Cape Cod to the Florida Keys , the Atlantic Seaboard is home to a wide variety of vacation destinations. Here are 14 of the best East Coast beach towns in the US.

Much of Maine's Mt. Desert Island is covered by Acadia National Park —home to climbs like Cadillac Mountain and a sophisticated system of carriage roads financed by John D. Rockefeller Jr. But on the island's northeast corner, charming Bar Harbor is a destination in its own right. Skirting Frenchmen Bay, Bar Harbor began drawing visitors as far back as the mid-19th century when some of the Hudson River School, a group of artists that included the likes of Thomas Cole and Frederic Edwin Church, were taken with Maine's Down East landscapes. Still picturesque, Bar Harbor is now a full-fledged tourist town with a bustling main street, whale-watching tours, and of course, easy access to Acadia.

Rockport, MA

The North Shore, a group of towns in Greater Boston, is a culturally important swath of Massachusetts. The coastal region is known for its excellent seafood, beautiful beaches, and historic landmarks. Many a good film has been filmed here as well, such as Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island and Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester-by-the-Sea . There are many towns worth visiting, but Rockport is a favorite among travelers. Forty miles north of Boston, the town has a can't-miss natural gem in Halibut Point State Park, from which visitors can spot Maine in the distance 80 miles away. Rockport is also beloved by art history buffs: it is home to Motif Number 1, a fishing shack with the superlative “the most-often painted building in America.” It was built in 1840, and was a popular subject because it represented New England’s nautical character. (And it didn’t hurt that the light hit it just so.) A replica was built promptly following the historic Blizzard of 1978, which destroyed the original. Oak Bluffs, MA

Ferries deliver day trippers to this little Martha’s Vineyard town daily and the colorful gingerbread houses for which Oak Bluffs is known are straight out of a storybook. Visitors walk straight off their boats into Ocean Park, a circular green overlooking the sea, encircled by said houses, with a frothy, delicate gazebo sitting in the center. Oak Bluffs has a long history of welcoming Black visitors, and today it is home to the annual African-American Film Festival .

Today however, they are museums. The most famous two are The Breakers and Rosecliff. The Newport mansions famously earned the ire of writer Joan Didion, who wrote in her essay The Seacoast of Despair, “To stand in the dining room of ‘The Breakers’ is to imagine fleeing it, pleading migraine.” Today, in lieu of the Great Gatsby -esque lawn parties of yore where swans roamed the grounds, Newport attracts visitors of all stripes for events such as the Newport Folk Festival.

Montauk, NY

The final stop on the eastern tip of Long Island, Montauk is appropriately known as the End. Montauk feels more remote and low-key than its luxurious, sceney Hamptons counterparts. Every visit to Montauk should include a stop at the Montauk Point Light House, which was commissioned by President George Washington in 1796. It is still operating, and the panoramic views from the top are out of this world.

You won't find bustling boardwalks, sleek hotels, or grids of cars with clunky bike racks trapped in traffic in Chincoteague. This coastal town is all about the wildlife—specifically its wild horses . Visitors flock to the island annually for the Pony Penning that has been held since 1925. The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Department holds the event, and it consists of a pony swim—in which the animals cross the Assateague Channel—and a pony auction. No one really knows how this population of horses came to be, though there are competing theories. Some say they are descendants of Spanish horses shipwrecked en route to Peru in the 17th century. Summer options on Pawleys Island that are not at all spooky—besides flopping around on the beach—include golf, fishing, walking sculpture-filled gardens, and feasting on Lowcountry cuisine like She Crab soup.

Just a short drive from Savannah , Georgia, this coastal community is in the perfect spot for a day trip . There's a little something for everyone from families to couples— South Beach is better for those who want a little excitement in their atmosphere, whereas North Beach is a bit more quiet and contained. I've found it particularly great for families (having traveled here with a multigenerational group ages 1-68), and recommend the kitschy Original Crab Shack for a memorable meal.

While we love the beach towns listed above, the only part of the East Coast that has a true tropical climate is the lower half of Florida. Naturally, the beaches in this area are very beautiful. We want to laud Siesta Key in particular for its fine sand, which comes from the Appalachian Mountains and is made up almost entirely of cool and reflective quartz, its waterfront dining and drinking, and its excellence for water sports like parasailing. The three beaches to visit on Siesta Key are Siesta Beach, Crescent Beach, and Turtle Beach.

Sharks, lightning, rough surf: The most dangerous beaches in Florida, by the numbers

Heading to the beach? Have a great time! Just watch for sharks. And lightning. And rip currents. And hurricanes.

In 2023, seven of the 10 most dangerous beaches in the U.S., according to the online travel site  Travel Lens , were in Florida based on shark bites, surf fatalities, hurricane frequency and more.

Keep in mind, part of that is surely because 825 miles of our 1,350 miles of coast are sandy beaches , some of the most beautiful in the country. Only Alaska has more coastline and we're a lot warmer. Florida has the third-largest population in the U.S. and every year millions of people visit just to head to the beach (or to see Disney World, but many of them hit the beach, too). More people means better odds of someone getting hurt.

But just so you're aware of the potential threats, these may be the most dangerous beaches in Florida.

What is the most dangerous beach in Florida for shark bites?

New Smyrna Beach, the "shark bite capital of the world," hands down, is the most dangerous beach in Florida for shark bites.

Florida had 16 reported unprovoked shark bites in 2023 , according to a study released by the Florida Program for Shark Research . That's the most of any state and twice that of the next closest one (Hawaii, with 8). Half of those 16 bites were in Volusia County, and five were in New Smyrna Beach just south of Daytona Beach.

Volusia County in total has reported 351 unprovoked shark bites since 1882, according to the program's International Shark Attack File , twice the next closest county of Brevard with 158.

Why? Lots of people, lots of swimmers, lots of fishing (which means lots of bait fish), lots of surfers. The Ponce Inlet/New Smyrna Beach area is popular with surfers and that churns up the water and lowers visibility.

The locals are fully aware of this, of course. You can buy  Shark Bite Capital T-shirts , for a while there was a  Shark Park attraction  (now closed), and in 2022  decorative shark statues designed by local artists and high school students  were installed around town.

How to avoid danger or shark attacks in Florida:

• Swim in a group, sharks are more likely to attack a single person.
• Swim only near lifeguards.
• Don't go in at dawn or dusk, when sharks are most active.
• Avoid shiny jewelry, which can resemble fish scales.
• Don't go in the water if you're bleeding.
• Be careful around sandbars and near steep drop-offs, these are favorite hangouts for sharks.
• Use extra caution when waters are murky.
• Avoid excess splashing, which can draw a shark's attention.
• Don't swim where fishermen are fishing or a lot of baitfish are swimming around.
• Get out of the water if sharks are sighted.

What is the most dangerous beach in Florida for lightning strikes?

Florida gets a lot of lightning, more than anywhere else in the country. A 10-year study found that on average, the Sunshine State gets 3,500 cloud-to-ground lightning flashes per day and 1.2 million per year. And sometimes it hits people. Sometimes it kills them .

USA TODAY reported in 2023 that Florida also lead the U.S. in deaths by lightning strikes with 85 since 2006. From 1959 to 2017, Florida saw 498 fatal lightning strikes , more than twice as many as the next state (Texas, with 226).

Since 2000, 17 people in Panama City Beach have been killed by lightning.

Studies have found that over 70% of the lightning deaths happened in June, July and August, with slightly more happening on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (likely due to more people outdoors, on beaches and golf courses and in parks).

(It's not a beach, but the single most lightning-dense area in the United States is an unincorporated community in Florida just west of Disney World called Four Corners. A study from environmental technology company  Vaisala found that in 2022, Four Corners saw 474 lightning events per square kilometer, or 1,229 lightning events per square mile.)

How to avoid danger from thunder and lightning in Florida:

• Go indoors or get in your vehicle when storms approach.
• Avoid trees and open-sided shelters.
• Avoid contact with running water.
• Avoid contact with electrical systems such as computers or game systems.

What is the most dangerous beach in Florida for surfers?

According to TravelLens, the popular spring break destination Panama City Beach won that dubious title due to the 24 surf zone deaths that occurred between 2010 and 2023.

The second-most dangerous beach for surfers was Daytona Beach, which had 16 in the same period.

How to avoid danger:

• Don't surf alone.
• Use the right equipment.
• Know the area and read forecasts.
• Pay attention to everything.
• Don't stand up too fast.
• Avoid surfing before or during a hurricane or tropical storm, which Panama City Beach officials attributed to several of their incidents.

In 2023, Panama City Beach made several most-dangerous-beach lists for another reason.

What Florida beach had the most drownings?

From June 15-24, 2023, seven people died after swimming in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Panama City Beach (one was outside the city limits on an unincorporated Bay County beach). That's the most drownings in one location in the U.S. that year, according to a National Weather Service database.

That's not the fault of the beach, though. Officials say six of them happened under double red flags, which means the ocean was closed to the public due to dangerous rip currents and the swimmers, all tourists, apparently went in anyway. Only surfers tethered to a surfboard are allowed to enter the Gulf during double red flags.

The other drowning was a tourist who went swimming under a single red flag, which designates high surf and strong currents.

"Any and every loss of life is a tragedy," the city said in a release. "The city considers these drownings heart-wrenching, unnecessary and preventable.”

Rip currents are river-like underwater currents in the surf zone (from the beach to past the breaking waves) that are moving away from the beach. Powerful rip currents can pull people out into the ocean or just wear them out as they try to swim to shore.

• Check out the surf zone forecast before you go.
• Know how to swim and swim near a lifeguard.
• Bring flotation devices or a United States Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
• Swim near friends.
• Know the beach's address should you need to call for help.
• Know the location of life stations on the beach equipped with life rings that could be thrown to someone in trouble.
• Pay attention to any hazard flags posted at the beach or at lifeguard stations and chairs.

Sarasota-Area Beach Among Best Beaches In U.S., World: TripAdvisor

S ARASOTA, FL — Once again, a Florida beach has landed at the No. 2 spot on this year’s TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best Beaches in the U.S.

The global ranking of Sarasota’s Siesta Beach also improved, moving from No. 11 to the No. 9 spot on the 2024 worldwide list.

The list was compiled by analyzing tens of millions of reviews submitted by global travelers over the past 12 months.

“Whether you want to relax or fill your day with activities, Siesta Beach delivers. Kick back on the white sand, go swimming in the clear water, play some outdoor sports, or simply admire the sunset — it's up to you,” according to the TripAdvisor listing for Siesta Beach. “The family-friendly beach is easy to get to via public transportation, offers wheelchair access, and has plenty of parking, restrooms, and a small concession stand. There are a variety of shops and lively restaurants nearby, too.”

It was the only Florida beach to land on the global list.

Travel & Leisure released its list of the “25 Best Beaches in the USA.” Although two unlikely New York City entries made the cut, the coastal gem of Long Island — constantly in the conversation of the nation’s nicest beaches — was snubbed.

Brooklyn’s Coney Island and Rockaway Beach in Queens were awarded the same prestige as Hawaii’s Poipu Beach on Kauai and California’s Santa Monica Beach and Carmel-by-the-Sea, to name a few.

The crowded NYC spots were praised for their miles of boardwalk and plenty of sandy entertainment options.

Coney Island is described as “a perfect seaside wonderland of nostalgia and kitschy fun” — and the New York Aquarium is near the beach.

Known for its amusement parks, games, plus the one-of-a-kind Cyclone roller coaster, Travel & Leisure said it is also the little things like access to volleyball and basketball courts that make Coney Island and Rockaway stand out.

Although not mentioned in the rating, it’s hard to have a bad day on Coney Island after a visit to the original Nathan’s Famous on nearby Stillwell Avenue, despite out-the-door lines.

Also, catching a Brooklyn Cyclones baseball game at the boardwalk’s Maimonides Park to cheer on the New York Mets’ future prospects is almost always a blast — especially when fans experience a stunning sunset with views over the Atlantic Ocean and Luna Park from their seats.

The ballpark even made its way into the video game “Spider-Man 2” as a true NYC icon.

Geographically close by in Queens, the Ramones’ favorite Rock-Rock-Rockaway Beach has also enjoyed a major facelift in recent seasons. Its 1932 art deco Jacob Riis bathhouse underwent a $50 million renovation in late 2022.

The scene also changed greatly in the past few summers as it became a hub for vintage shops, food trucks and trendy bars.

In 2020, the south Queens surf haven also became posh thanks to the opening of its swanky Rockaway Hotel and pool .

It’s nothing against either evolving city institution, but one must wonder why Coopers Beach in South Hampton on LI was not mentioned. It is often in other listings of the nation’s top 10, placing third in the US last year in Dr. Beach’s annual ranking.

The public Fire Island National Seashore, beloved by Long Islanders and city visitors alike for its deer-filled, beachside trail to the Fire Island Lighthouse from Robert Moses Field 5, also did not make the cut.

However, there was room for Park Point Beach in Duluth, Minnesota.

In Connecticut, Ocean Beach Park in New London also made the cut, whereas Rhode Island’s Watch Hill — home to Taylor Swift’s oceanfront mega-mansion and many more nautical sights — is just a stone’s throw up I-95.

Also in New England, Good Harbor Beach near the setting of “The Perfect Storm” in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was selected over any Cape Cod destination — or Martha’s Vineyard.

In New Jersey, Bruce Springsteen’s home nabe of Asbury Park , which still carries a rock legacy with clubs like the Stone Pony plus other beachy fun, also made the list, as did Ocean City, Maryland.
