Salzburg City Cruises

Amadeus Speedboat underneath Marko-Feingold-Steg | © Salzburg Stadt Schiff-Fahrt

Once again this year, those who take to the water will be able to experience Salzburg from an unusual perspective. The Amadeus Salzburg panoramic speedboat offers guests exceptional views of the city and its surroundings as it cruises along the Salzach.

Tour 1 : The trip starts at the 'Marko-Feingold-Steg' bridge directly in Salzburg's Old Town. The eight-kilometre route takes you along the river towards Hellbrunn, with a view of the Old Town and the mountain ranges around Salzburg and back

Tour 2 : It starts like tour 1 and goes a few minutes further to the Hellbrunn landing stage. From there, a shuttle takes you in just four minutes on a historic London Double Decker bus to the fabulously situated baroque palace in Hellbrunn with its world-famous trick fountains and the enchanting pavilion from the film The Sound of Music .

Tour 3 : This tour is another highlight, which in addition to the boat trip and the four-minute ride on the London Double Decker bus also includes a visit to the world-famous trick fountains and Hellbrunn palace . After your visit, the London Double Decker bus will take you back to the starting point, the landing stage at Marko-Feingold Pier.

In case of tempest, flood or low water, service may be limited or cancelled. Advance reservations is recommended. If using the Salzburg Card , be sure to pick up an original ticket at the ticket office (free ticket for children under the age of 4).

  • Hannah-the-Brave89 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Final Verdict: Would Recommend WITH Notes I really don't relish leaving less than a 4-5 star review. But this was a little bit of a disappointment for my husband and myself. I booked our tour directly from the company website MONTHS in advance. When we arrived we discovered that the time had been moved up 15 minutes (thankfully we arrived early). We got on the boat last, because we were "late". Turns out they had overbooked and my husband had to sit in a chair in the middle of the aisle. Our group was made up of a majority of German speakers and so both languages were spoken. Which, I would normally be ok with, but it felt like a LOT of time was spent on German and not nearly as much in English. One reason why this gets 3 stars instead of less, is that the guides were willing to allow us to change our dinner/Mozart concert to the following night at our request, because we weren't feeling well. However, they forgot to take down our seat numbers. When we showed up the next night and took our seats (that they escorted us to), they came back and asked us to move when a different group of people showed up with the same seat numbers. This was even after we reminded them upon arrival that we were the couple who re-booked the dinner/show. Another part of this experience was the dinner. This was also a MAJOR mixed review for us. On one hand... we would have put up with a LOT just to have dinner with the absolutely killer view from the restaurant. However, the staff was INCREDIBLY unfriendly (though, this isn't the fault of the booking company, but it should be noted). At one point we witnessed a verbal altercation between one of the guests and a waiter. The dinner was pretty good. We only got water though, which they automatically bring out in bottles. The dinner is supposed to be included with the price, but even if you only get water to drink you have to pay extra (6 Euros per bottle of water!!). The concert itself was great, musically. You are also in an old room in the fortress that has more stunning views of the city and surrounding areas. The down side of this, is that we visited in July, we were in one of the top rooms in the fortress, the humidity was darn near 100% and it was HOT in that room. My final verdict is that I would probably do this tour again, but this is how I would do it. I would book through the company again. Show up 45 minutes early to ensure I get an actual seat on the boat. I wouldn't book this tour hours after our plane lands in Europe on our first night. I would bring a fan, and nicer clothes for my husband that are cool (not a sweater, especially in July... I was under the impression it would be raining the whole time and it didn't rain once). I would just recommend to people that they will have to sit through a lot of German, to expect to pay for their drinks, even just water, and to not expect overly friendly staff at dinner. • alison l 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service, wouldn't recommend this tour Booked the Tour 3, including tour on the water, a visit to Hellbrunn Palace and return trip home. Hellbrunn was fabulous but the rest of the tour was an awful experience, and customer service we received on return was nether helpful or satisfactory. Our water tour was ruined by a hen party, who were loud, shouted out obscene words, and has no interest in the water cruise spending the whole journey taking photos, shouting over the commentary and blocking the views. The staff on board the boat did nothing at all in response to this. We didn't hear any of the commentary and missed the sights, so ended up paying for a service we definitely did not receive. On our return I spoke the ticket office staff who told me there was nothing they coud do and they were not responsible if people on the tour were loud and it was just how it was. This is not acceptable, showed no customer experience and just not bothered that all that our afternoon was ruined, with no offer to help or compensate this. Would recommend getting a taxi or a bus to Hellbrunn, don't waste your money on this tour. Read more Written September 1, 2018

  • HampshireKenny 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Different, Memorable & Amusing This tour turned out to be a real experience, not least because of the commentary and briefing provided by the Captain. The sightseeing element became secondary to the experience of being transported from the river and then through the City (much to the amazement of pedestrians) and then back again to the jetty via the river. About 90 minutes of sheer fun. Highly recommend. Read more Written July 3, 2018

Boat Tours – Salzburg

Private Tour of Salzburg and the Lake District in Austria

Experience Boat Tours in Salzburg

Romance to the music : Salzburg is a city that will delight with its history and culture. Famous for the Sound of Music, you can take a tour and then head out on the river, taking in the sights and sounds as you gently cruise your way past the buildings. Romance with a hint of culture and history.

Top things to do : A river cruise is a delightful way to see the sight and the natural highlights, but what else does Salzburg offer? Well, there is the Sound of Music sights, and of course, Mozart was a resident here, so explore his legacy. Then there is the baroque style of the old town and Mirabell Square. Salzburg is a true delight on the river and on dry land.

Salzburg in the sun : Your best time visiting Salzburg is during the late summer and early autumn. The summer crowds are slowly ebbing away, and the gardens and surrounding countryside are beginning their colourful change. Spring is pleasant but can still be chilly.

• Salzburg’s meaning literally means ‘salt castle’. The reason? It’s all down to the salt mining that took place here.

* Up until 1816, Salzburg was its own country! We’ll let you think about that for a moment.

• Germany isn’t far away! So, why not pop over there and cover two countries in one go? It’s about 3 miles / 5km away.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

salzburg boat cruise

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

salzburg boat cruise

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

salzburg boat cruise

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

salzburg boat cruise

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

salzburg boat cruise

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

salzburg boat cruise

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

salzburg boat cruise

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
