Varanasi: realise the supreme power of divinity.
Varanasi, Benaras or Kashi, is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. Located in the populated state of Uttar Pradesh, this sacred city is of supreme importance in spirituality and pilgrimage. A Varanasi tour package will unfold the magnificence of this historical place. Steeped in high thinking, philosophies, beliefs and art, Varanasi has a unique culture of devotion. It has also been the cradle of education and ancient religions.
A Varanasi trip package will reveal the history of the place evident in its various monuments. Sarnath, the area 10 km away from Varanasi, is famous for being the preaching ground of The Buddha. Visit all the blessed places of the city with a Varanasi tour package. Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the prime attraction of the Varanasi tour package. This temple has Lord Shiva as the chief deity. This site is centuries old, but the present temple was constructed under the supervision of Rani Ahilyabai Holkar. The temple near the Durga Ghat (river bank) houses the Ashtabhujadhari deity. The numerous ghats or cemented banks have different religious significance. Gyan Vapi Kup, Ramgarh Fort, St Mary’s Church, Tulsi Manas Temple and Bharat Mata Temple are some of the other noteworthy places to visit on a Varanasi package tour.

Sometimes the cruises on the Ganga River may be stopped but this holds the holy Shravan month – an auspicious time for Shiva devotees.
Plan your clothing along with booking of Varanasi tour package. Since it is a holy city, everyone is expected to be dressed in decent attire. Make sure your body is covered from neck to calf-length (or up to the ankles, preferably). There is no strict dress code, but traditional attire is a preference. Those visiting the temples can wear dhoti-kurta (for men) and saree (for women).

Varanasi Guide: Planning Your Trip
This Ancient Holy City is not for the Faint of Heart!
kurkul/Getty Images
Varanasi is another sacred city in India with a very old history. It could possibly be the world's oldest inhabited city. Known as the city of Lord Shiva, the god of creation and destruction, it's believed that anyone who dies in Varanasi will be liberated from the cycle of reincarnation. Even a wash in the Ganges River is said to cleanse away all sins.
Varanasi was originally called Kashi during Vedic times. It was officially named Varanasi in 1956, although it was known as Benaras before that (said to be a variant of Varanasi). The name is derived from the meeting of the Varuna and Assi rivers.
The fascinating thing about this mystical city is that its rituals are revealed openly to along the many riverside ghats , which are used for everything from bathing to burning the bodies of the dead. Yoga, blessings, massages, shaves, and games of cricket are among the other activities you'll find performed by the river's edge.
Planning Your Trip
- Best Time to Visit: October to March are the best months to visit Varanasi. This is when the weather is at its coolest. Winters are refreshing and pleasant, albeit chilly at night. The temperature gets uncomfortably hot from April onward, easily reaching 35 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). This is followed by monsoon rain from July to September.
- Language: Hindi and English.
- Currency: Indian rupee.
- Time Zone: UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) +5.5 hours, also known as Indian Standard Time. India does not have daylight saving time.
- Getting Around: Streets are very narrow in the old part of the city along the ghats , so walking is the only option in many places. It's possible to hire a bicycle at Assi Ghat. Further out, auto rickshaws and Ola cabs (the Indian version of Uber. Uber is yet to start operating in Varanasi) are convenient ways of getting around. There are prepaid booths for auto rickshaws and taxis directly outside Varanasi Junction railway station.
- Travel Tips: If you're not familiar with Varanasi and think you might be overwhelmed, or you want to gain deeper insight into the city, taking a tour is highly recommended. Keep in mind that taxis and auto rickshaws can't reach the Dashashwamedh Ghat area between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. because of the crowds. You'll be dropped at Godaulia Crossing, where auto rickshaws line up.
Getting There
Varanasi is in Uttar Pradesh, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) southeast of capital Lucknow. The city has an airport and is connected by direct flight from major cities in India including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Lucknow, and Khajuraho.
Many people choose to travel to Varanasi by train. It takes a minimum of eight hours from Kolkata, 10 to 12 hours from Delhi, and around 30 hours from Mumbai. Most trains run overnight. The main railway station in Varanasi is called Varanasi Junction or Varanasi Cantt (the code is BSB). However, there are two other railway stations in the vicinity of the city -- Manduadih (MUV) and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya/Mughal Sarai Junction (MGS). This is important to note if all trains to Varanasi Junction are booked up. Manduadih is within the city, while Deen Dayal Upadhyaya/Mughal Sarai Junction is about 20 kilometers away. Mughal Sarai is a large station that receives a lot of trains, so you may be able to get one with availability. It was officially renamed Pandit Deen Deen Dayal Upadhyaya in 2018.
Bus services to Varanasi tend to be very slow and uncomfortable, and are generally avoidable unless you're on a super strict budget.
Things to Do
People visit Varanasi for a brush with the divine. One of the best things to do is to simply soak up the atmosphere and observe what's going on. The most interesting part of the city is its ghats (steps leading down to the river). Take a walk beside the river and watch life flow by.
A quintessential Varanasi experiences is a boat trip along the river at sunrise or dusk. It's worth going twice, at both times, because the atmosphere is different and you'll see different things. If you don't fancy hiring a simple row boat, the new luxury Alaknanda cruise operates twice a day (morning and evening) between in the south Assi Ghat and Raj Ghat in the north. The cost is 750 rupees per person.
The spectacular Ganga Aarti (prayer ceremony) takes place every evening at Dasaswamedh Ghat. You can either be part of the audience or watch it from the river. There's also an early morning sunrise Ganga Aarti at Assi Ghat. It's not as formal and provides a less touristy experience.
A look at the cremation ghats, where dead bodies are openly burned on funeral pyres, is eye-opening. It's best that you don't try and go there yourself, due to the prevalence of scams and touts (see below). Instead, take this Learning and Burning walking tour offered by Heritage Walk Varanasi or Death and Rebirth in Banaras walking tour offered by Varanasi Walks.
The magnificent Vishwanath Temple, built in 1776, is an important Hindu holy place of worship in Varanasi.
Varanasi is an excellent place to shop for silk (including saris ). However, be sure to check the quality as many items are actually made of fake silk or silk blend. Musical instruments are also a good buy in Varanasi.
Varanasi is well-known for classical dance and music, and yoga as well.

Manjeet is an outstanding personal guide who provides customized heritage walks of Varanasi.
GoStops Hostel offers inexpensive walking tours and activities in Varanasi.
Uttar Pradesh Tourism's early morning heritage walk of Varanasi covers the ghats and famous temples.
If you take a walking tour, you'll be able to explore the bazaars and unusual attractions, such as the flower market and Ayurvedic herb market. You can also visit artisans, a community of boatmen, and Juna Akhara where an unusual sect of naked sadhus live.
Festivals and Events
The biggest festival of the year in Varanasi is Dev Deepavali (or Dev Diwali). Not to be confused with Diwali, this festival happens 15 days later, on Kartik Purnima (in October or November). The gods are believed to come to earth to bathe in the Ganges River on this day, and the ghats are decorated with rows and rows of lamps. Their glow creates an evocative spectacle. A five-day Ganga Mahotsav festival is also held in Varanasi at the same time. The focus is on live classical music and dance.
The world's oldest Ramlila performance, which narrates the life story of Lord Ram, takes place at Ramnagar near Varanasi for a month in the lead-up to Dussehra.
Other important occasions in Varanasi include Maha Shivratri and Buddha Purnima (Buddha's birthday). The five-day Dhrupad Mela music festival happens at Tulsi Ghat, usually in March after Maha Shivratri. It's organized by the Sankat Mochan Foundation.
Maha Shivratri is also an extraordinary time to visit Varanasi to see the many sects of sadhus, who come to celebrate the great festival of Lord Shiva in the city.
It's worth setting aside a day to take a side trip to Sarnath , about 30 minutes away. This is where the Buddha gave his first discourse. In contrast to the craziness of Varanasi, it's a peaceful place where you can wander around the grassy gardens and ruins of Buddhist stupas .
If you're interested in handicrafts, you may like to visit the weaver villages around Varanasi. These include Sarai Mohana (supported by the Taj Hotel Group), Kotwa and Ayodhyapur. Tours are conducted by Holy Voyages and Walks of Varanasi.
What to Eat and Drink
Those who want a break from Indian food will find it at Assi Ghat. Pizzeria Vaatika Cafe and Aum Cafe are very popular. The Open Hand Cafe and Shop serves great coffee and yummy light meals and retails their quality ethically-made products.
Head to the Dosa Cafe or Niyati Cafe, in the lane behind Man Mandir Ghat, for simple yet tasty Indian fare.
Blue Lassi is famous for its traditional fruit-flavored lassi yoghurt drinks (some say they're the best in India). This hole-in-the-wall shop has been in business since 1925 enroute to Manikarnika Ghat.
It's wise to avoid trying the street food in Varanasi, due to hit-and-miss hygiene.
As Varanasi is a holy city, alcohol isn't permitted around the ghats and temples. Many rooftop restaurants do discreetly serve beer to tourists though. You'll only find bars in mid-range and luxury hotels away from the ghats.
Where to Stay
Ideally, stay in a hotel that faces the Ganges River so you can watch all the goings-on along the ghats . However, do be aware that most of these hotels are only accessible on foot. Be sure to factor this in if you have a lot of luggage. Here's the pick of hotels in Varanasi for all budgets.
Culture and Customs
Varanasi is a challenging destination for inexperienced travelers. There are many scams to watch out for. The most common one involves touts who will take you to see Manikarnika Ghat (the main cremation ghat) and ask you to donate wood for the funeral pyre -- you'll be paying at least 10 times more than what the wood's worth. If you offer a small amount, it will be declined. Either say you don't have any money or don't feel comfortable giving so much.
Although the government has noticeably cleaned up Varanasi in recent years, it's still very polluted and dirty. Most tourists find it to be an intense city that confronting and off-putting, yet intriguing. This is a place that will really overwhelm your senses, and not always in a good way. So, do be ready for it! It's not wise to take a dip in the Ganges River due to the pollution. If you go on a boat ride, avoid getting wet.
When taking photos, do be discrete and considerate of people who are performing rituals. Especially avoid photographing the cremation ghats.

Varanasi Itinerary For 1-2 Days & Varanasi Things To Do!
Categories Asia , India , Itinerary
In this Varanasi itinerary, I show you that 2 days in Varanasi (Banaras as it’s also known) is the perfect amount of time to spend in this old and interesting city I think.
Varanasi is incredibly interesting but there aren’t actually that many things to do in Varanasi, it’s a city that you visit to walk around and observe what’s going on rather than jumping from Varanasi tourist attraction to attraction which you can do with 1- 2 days in Varanasi easily!
Varanasi is said to be the oldest constantly inhabited city in the world . Mark Twain said in 1896 ‘ Older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together. ‘
And I read that the Lonely Planet once said ‘Brace yourself. You’re about to enter one of the most blindingly colourful, unrelentingly chaotic and unapologetically indiscreet places on Earth .’
Yep, this is pretty much Varanasi in 2 famous quotes!

Accommodation in Varanasi
I was recommended Moustache Hostel because of its location in Varanasi, I stayed there and was really pleased with it!
Moustache Hostel is by Assi Ghat which is one of the Ghats furthest away from the ‘centre’ of Varanasi which is further North up the River, so although it is a bit of a walk into the ‘centre’, it’s a lovely walk along all of the ghats.
The roads are wide rather than back alleyways in the centre, there are so many cafes and restaurants, some of which are pretty cool and funky selling good coffee and foods with wifi and the air felt a lot fresher!
Alternatively, you can stay closer to the centre but watch out for hotels in Varanasi being in the middle of a weave of small alleyways full of beeping mopeds, dusty buildings, cows and cow pat! I wouldn’t like waking up to this!
Some high-rated hotels in Varanasi are:
BrijRama Palace- A Heritage Hotel – Luxury
Wander Station Varanasi – Midrange
Azure Family Paying Guest House – Budget
Search for accommodation in Varanasi on Booking.com here . I used Booking.com all the time as I love their flexible booking options!
In regards to how many days in Varanasi to stay for, I’d say 2 nights and 2 days are enough.
Things To Do in Varanasi
1 day in varanasi, sunrise boat trip on river ganges.
Starting your day with a sunrise boat trip along the River Ganges is by far the best way to start your trip to Varanasi and this Varanasi itinerary.
Head down to the river before sunrise and take up one of the men on their offer for a boat trip.
You should be able to barter them down from their initial price and be sure to check out their boat before getting on to ensure it looks ok. Don’t expect these guys to be a ‘guide’.
However, if you do want a guided tour so you can understand what is happening on the shore, have a look into this highly rated Varanasi Morning Boat Ride and Aarti Experience via Viator .
I had the most amazing sunrise sky at the start of the boat trip- pinks and purples which turned blue as the sun started to rise out of the haze (and smog).
On the shores, you’ll see locals bathing in the river and doing their laundry. You’ll see early morning Indian tourists going for a ritual dip- believed by Hindus that the River Ganges aka Mother Ganga will release them from their past sins.
I use Skyscanner to book all of my flights! I’m a huge fan of Skyscanner because I love how easy it is to compare different dates and routes to help me find the best flight at the best price!
Open Skyscanner by clicking here and search for the best flights as you read this post.
Morning Aarti ceremonies
You may see parts of the Morning Aarti ceremonies depending on where on the river you start, and you should definitely make sure you go up to Manikarnika Ghat aka the Burning Ghat .
In the morning, just after sunrise, there will not be any bodies burning yet, instead the men will be getting the area ready for the day and sorting the logs.
It’s incredible to see the boats full of logs in front of the ghat which will be used to cover dead bodies later that day.
Seen as you cannot take photos or videos at the burning ghat during the day (which is understandable), going past by boat in the morning is the best chance to take any photos of the area.
I was actually really surprised by the number of cool cafes there are in Varanasi, they are definitely set up for backpackers and travellers here, which I guess makes sense as Varanasi has been on the traveller radar since the hippies arrived in the 1960s and haven’t gone off it since.
If you are staying near Assi Ghat I’d recommend Ashish Cafe, Open Hand Cafe, The Mark’s Cafe for coffee and breakfast .
If you are not staying in this area Brown Bread Bakery is a good place to get some breakfast and relax.
Explore the Ghats and City
I had a little nap until lunchtime which may be needed on your Varanasi itinerary because of the early start and then headed back out along the ghats for a relaxed walk .
They will be much busier now and the laundry you saw being done that morning will now be hung up, laid out and drying in the sun.
If you’d prefer to see Varanasi with a local and learn about the history of Varanasi I recommend these well-priced and highly-rated Varanasi tours :
- Self Tailored Banaras Wala Tour
- Varanasi Street Food Crawl (2 Hours Guided Food Tasting Tour)
- Private A Journey of A lifetime Tour
- Cultural & Spiritual Trails of Old Town Varanasi Guided Walking Tour
- Varanasi Temple Tour
- Private Sunrise Yoga Class with Licensed Instructor
Later in the day head into the centre of Varanasi , aka the back streets of Varanasi . Here you will see what Mark Twain meant when he said just how old Varanasi is and looks!
When I visited, the lanes were no busier than usual Indian Cities and although I didn’t particularly like them, they were fine.
I can understand though that if Varanasi is one of the first places you visit in India, perhaps after Delhi and Agra, that these streets could be quite intense.
Kashi Vishwanath Temple is right in the middle of the small streets however as a tourist to Varanasi do not expect to be able to go inside as the queues are huge.
Indian tourists must wait hours to enter in the cramped, small streets to go inside. So if you come upon people queuing in the street, this is where they are heading!
The streets are also lined with shops but Varanasi is definitely not the best place to shop in India ! If you plan to go shopping, wait until you go elsewhere or make sure you shop before you get there.
I didn’t see any particularly nice shops with good clothes and accessories and with the streets being so dusty and dark it doesn’t make it a pleasant place to browse!
Burning Ghats
Whilst exploring the back streets be sure to head to 2 places on this Varanasi itinerary – one, back to the Burning Ghats and two, to Blue Lassi Shop !
I understand that the Burning Ghats may not be for everyone but they are a must-see place to visit in Varanasi! This is what Varanasi is based around, it’s the city where life meets death and death is celebrated.
It is a big and important thing for Hindus to be burnt in Varanasi. It is believed that after their bodies are soaked in the River Ganges and they are cremated there that they will go to heaven instead of being reincarnated.
It’s a strange feeling down at the burning ghat, firstly you can approach it by the river and walk right onto the ghat, or down from the back streets. Walking along the ghat will take you right into the centre.
There are about 10 fires going with big piles of wood, bodies are brought down on bamboo stretchers, and dunked in the river before being laid out on top of the wood. More wood is put on top as well as a smothering of Ghee to help the wood burn.
The wood is set on fire and so is the body and it’s possible to wait and see a whole body disappear.
When at the burning ghats remember that you cannot take any photos . Keep your phone in your bag or pocket and if you carry a camera around your neck as I do, it’s just easier to put it in your bag even if it is off as it will save the many comments from Indian men trying to tell you what to do.
The very bottom area by the river is for the family but you can stand by the railing or on the steps.
It’s a very strange atmosphere as it seems that a lot of locals go there to socialise and you will definitely be the minority being a tourist but you are definitely allowed down there so don’t let that put you off.
The Blue Lassi Shop
After this, you may need more of a light-hearted activity so I recommend going to The Blue Lassi , now be sure to go to the real one which is close to the burning ghat and is a blue cafe as there is a fake one apparently.
Here you can pretty much get any flavour of Lassi you want and there is a huge menu to choose from.
Evening Aarti Ceremony
Come evening time on this Varanasi itinerary for things to do in Varanasi, head to Dasawamedh Ghat for the Evening Aarti , this happens just after sunset when it’s dark but to get a good seat I’d recommend getting there early.
You can’t miss it as there are huge lit-up umbrellas above where the priests will do their ceremony.
Again, this is another one of the things to do in Varanasi that is helpful to see with a guide as they can really explain to you what is happening and if you are new to India you might find this experience and the number of people overwhelming on your own.
Watching the Evening Aarti from a boat on the River Ganges on this tour with a private guide is a great idea, and so is watching the Evening Aarti from the banks of the Ganges with a private guide like this .
These are the main things to do in Varanasi, so if you have just 1 day in Varanasi then you will manage to see pretty much everything by doing the above Varanasi itinerary!
2 Days in Varanasi
It’s likely your second day in Varanasi will not vary too much from the above. If you can get up early again then head back out to the ghats for sunrise.
Morning Aarti
At Assi Ghat they hold the Morning Aarti which is pretty much the same as the Evening Aarti but good to see.
During the day there isn’t much else to do in Varanasi I found except for exploring the ghats, streets and cafes once again.
Day Trip to Sarnath
However, if you are keen to get out of Varanasi, one of the best places to visit near Varanasi is Sarnath . This is popular because it’s where Buddha first taught a sermon and first taught the Dharma .
It’s possible to go on an organised tour like this to Sarnath or get a taxi.
I met a girl who got an Ola there which was around 600Rs each way. Sarnath is only 10km away from Varanasi but the traffic will more than likely be heavy so it could take an hour each way.
Sarnath has a beautiful garden you can walk around and relax in with some ruins you can visit and also a museum about the history of Buddhism.
Evening time is a good time to get back out on the river . The sun sets behind the city so you will not see the sun actually setting but instead the sky turning castle colours above the city and the rituals starting along the ghats.
Alternatively, a popular thing to do in Varanasi is to watch some wrestling which is popular in this area so look out for that.
If wrestling is something you are particularly interested in you can also do a day tour to discover the local art of Kushti Wrestling.
How to get the best flights??
I use Skyscanner to book all of my flights! I’m a huge fan of Skyscanner because I love how easy it is to compare different destinations and different dates for the best price and route!
For example, I type in ‘everywhere’ in the destination if I have fixed dates and want to find the best flights on those dates on Skyscanner.
And if I have a set destination I’ll look at the ‘month view’ to check the cheapest days to fly in that month!
How to Get To and From Varanasi
Train and Air are the most popular ways to get to Varanasi and leave Varanasi.
Varanasi has 2 train stations – Varanasi Junction and Varanasi Cantt .
I got an overnight train from Agra to Varanasi leaving Agra Fort at 8:30 pm (well actually 9:30 as it was delayed), and getting it at 14:30 (should have been 10:30 am).
It makes sense to visit Agra and Varanasi together and this train link works well during the day and overnight.
Rishikesh and Varanasi are also 2 destinations that are popular to see after one another. It’s possible to go from Rishikesh to Varanasi by getting to Haridwar station outside of Rishikesh and then getting an overnight train to Varanasi.
Delhi to Varanasi is also popular and there is an overnight train from Varanasi to Delhi and back.
Search for trains and buses to and from Varanasi here which can be booked easily online!
Varanasi has a Domestic Airport. I flew to Goa from there.
It’s an hour from the City and a taxi cost me 800Rs. It’s actually a really good airport with free wifi, a few little shops and plenty of places to get a drink and some food.
Internal flights in India can be really cheap and must faster than travelling by train/bus.
I hope this Varanasi Travel Guide helps you plan your trip there and gives you an idea of things to do in Varanasi in 2 days or if you spend 3 days in Varanasi .
People say you either love Varanasi or hate it, I loved it. I hope you do too!

Glad to know you liked Varanasi. Even for us Indians, it can get overwhelming, but underneath that chaos is something incredible - a chance to see life at its rawest...
Actually, Benaras is the best place to shop for banarasi fabric/ sari, but it can be done only with a trustworthy local.

We would like to thank you and your team for organizing a fabulous tour for us. A very special thanks should go to Mr. Santosh Ardalkar who was our tour manager. He was vigilant and careering us all the time. The support we got at the airport truly made us more comfortable. The schedule and appointment worked out well. The driver was an excellent with a good temperament and we never felt tired after a long journey mainly due to his careful driving. He was always smiling and was helping the aged people. Dear Veena World Team, I hope this email finds you well. I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a tour organized by your company, and I felt compelled to express my utmost satisfaction and appreciation for the outstanding experience we had. Our tour was led by two exceptional tour managers, Harshal Laxman Pansare and Saumitra Ranjan Pradhan. Their dedication and commitment to ensuring the success of our tour were truly remarkable. Their friendly and helpful demeanour made us feel right at home throughout the journey. This was especially important as we were travelling with a group of 28 elderly individuals, and their attention to their well-being was heartwarming. Harshal and Saumitra consistently demonstrated their punctuality and proactive approach in handling various situations. Their ability to make quick, informed decisions on the spot greatly contributed to the smoothness of the tour. Furthermore, their in-depth knowledge of the places we visited added an extra layer of interest and engagement to our experiences. One aspect of their service that stood out was their skill in keeping us engaged during long road routes with captivating stories. It was a fantastic way to make the journey enjoyable and memorable. Moreover, I was deeply impressed by the respect and care they showed to every member of the group, regardless of age. Managing a group of older adults on a fast-paced tour can be challenging, but Harshal and Saumitra handled it with patience and grace, ensuring that everyone had a wonderful time. the overall experience with Veena World was exceptional, and I look forward to future opportunities to explore with your company. I wholeheartedly recommend Harshal Laxman Pansare and Saumitra Ranjan Pradhan as tour managers, as they truly went above and beyond to make this tour a memorable and delightful experience for all of us. ‘The working class can’t afford it’: the shocking truth about the money bands make on tour
As Taylor Swift tops $1bn in tour revenue, musicians playing smaller venues are facing pitiful fees and frequent losses. Should the state step in to save our live music scene?
W hen you see a band playing to thousands of fans in a sun-drenched festival field, signing a record deal with a major label or playing endlessly from the airwaves, it’s easy to conjure an image of success that comes with some serious cash to boot – particularly when Taylor Swift has broken $1bn in revenue for her current Eras tour. But looks can be deceiving. “I don’t blame the public for seeing a band playing to 2,000 people and thinking they’re minted,” says artist manager Dan Potts. “But the reality is quite different.”
Post-Covid there has been significant focus on grassroots music venues as they struggle to stay open. There’s been less focus on the actual ability of artists to tour these venues. David Martin, chief executive officer of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC), says we’re in a “cost-of-touring crisis”. Pretty much every cost attached to touring – van hire, crew, travel, accommodation, food and drink – has gone up, while fees and audiences often have not. “[Playing] live is becoming financially unsustainable for many artists,” he says. “Artists are seeing [playing] live as a loss leader now. That’s if they can even afford to make it work in the first place.”
Potts, who works at Red Light Management – home to everyone from Sabrina Carpenter to Kaiser Chiefs and Sofia Kourtesis – feels like there is an industry equivalent of the Spider-Man meme in which they are all pointing to one another. “People who work at labels think bands make loads of money touring, while booking agents think they make loads of money on publishing and so on,” he says. “Everyone thinks artists make money from the other side of the industry they’re not involved in.
“Artists are the biggest employers in the industry. They pay for the tour manager, session musicians, agent, manager, crew, insurance, travel, accommodation, equipment, rehearsal space, production. Everything. I don’t think people know this is all the stuff that the artist pays for and does.”
“Greater transparency is needed,” says Lily Fontaine, lead singer of Leeds band English Teacher. On paper, the four-piece appear to have made it. They are signed with a major label, Island, have played on Later With … Jools Holland, get healthy BBC Radio 6Music airplay, their debut album has received five-star reviews and they are about to embark on their biggest tour to date, which includes an 800-capacity home-town show.
“The reality is that it’s normal for all of these achievements to coexist alongside being on Universal Credit, living at home or sofa surfing,” says Fontaine. During the making of their debut album, she and bandmate Lewis Whiting did the latter while unable to afford rent.
In their four years of existence, English Teacher have yet to turn a profit from touring. “We’ve never directly paid ourselves from a gig,” says Whiting. “A headline tour usually comes out with a deficit. The only thing that we ever make any kind of profit on is festivals, because the fees can be higher, but any money left over just goes towards the next outgoings.” A successful show for the group in the past has been defined by whether they can flog enough merch to afford a supermarket food shop.
So how do they survive? “In the world of artists, we’re in a lucky position,” says Whiting. “We try to pay ourselves £500 a month each from the band pot.” However, they’ve been reliant on their advance for this, which is now gone. “We’re now in that stage where we’re gonna have to figure out where that £500 a month is gonna come from,” says Fontaine. “Because the gig fees won’t be able to cover that.” The band estimate that their 16-date UK tour in May will generate roughly £800 profit. But, says Fontaine, “realistically, I don’t think there will be any profit because things always go over budget”.
For many artists, fees aren’t increasing in line with costs. “There’s been no real incline at all,” says Potts. “For support slots, I don’t think the fees have changed in the last 10 years or so that I’ve been managing, whether that’s £50 at the smaller end or £500 quid for some of the biggest shows.” Fees for headline shows can vary enormously for bands, even on the same tour. Playing a 200-capacity club in Newcastle may land you £600, while a 1,500 cap in London may net you £3,000.
And fewer people are coming to shows at the small-to-mid-sized end of things. “In our audience data, we see there is a gap in new audiences coming through post-pandemic,” says the FAC’s Martin. “As well as a bit of a drop-off in some of the older audiences returning to live shows.” However, despite stagnant fees and shrinking audiences, touring activity in the UK is at a peak. Due to the costs of touring Europe (which can be thousands in taxes and carnet alone) 74% fewer UK bands are now touring Europe post-Brexit. “It’s much more difficult to tour in Europe so there are more artists trying to perform domestically,” says Martin. “That creates a saturation problem.”
For this article, the Guardian has seen 12 tour budget sheets for various bands and artists varying from up-and-comers to firmly established and successful acts, all of whom regularly undertake headline tours across the UK in venues ranging from 150 to 2,500 capacity. Almost all of these result in losses. Understandably, most shared their balance sheets on the condition of anonymity. One four-piece indie band, whose last two albums went Top 10 in the UK charts, reported a loss of £2,885 from a six-day UK tour. The only tour that shows anything resembling healthy profit was a 29-date tour for a solo artist who came away with £6,550. Not bad going for a month’s work but, as Martin points out, “that’s then his touring done for the next six months. So it’s not enough money.”
Nubiyan Twist are a nine-piece Afro-jazz outfit who have a loyal following and tens of millions of streams on Spotify, “We pride ourselves on being able to put on a big show, like your Fela Kutis or James Browns, these epic spectacles,” says bandleader Tom Excell. “But it’s getting more difficult, without a shadow of a doubt.” For an upcoming eight-show tour of Europe, they are predicting a loss of £4,931.28. The only way they can justify doing it is because they got funding from the BPI Music Export Growth Scheme. “I would have just pulled the plug if it wasn’t for that,” says Excell. “I’ve got a two-year-old and I can’t be away from home for that long and come back with a loss.”
Even when the band get more lucrative fees for festivals it’s still tough. They will be paid £5,000 for a festival performance this summer but the total profit after band wages (as Excell pays all his band members in full first) expenses and commissions are paid out will be £277.60. “After four albums and 15 years doing this, to still be having to gamble on whether I’m going to make anything, while everyone else gets paid a guaranteed amount, is a struggle,” admits Excell.
Such thin margins leave little wiggle room, as the space-surf band Japanese Television (who headline 100-300 capacity venues) found out when their booking agent reduced their 13-date UK and EU tour to eight shows with a five-day gap in the middle that will add a further loss of around £1,200 to a tour that is already set to lose them around £700. “Records and T-shirts are basically what keeps us going,” says the band’s Tim Jones. “The only way this tour is working for us is because we just put out our second album and we did about 60 presales on the vinyl and that was basically enough to pay for the van. It’s a hobby that just about pays for itself.”
after newsletter promotion
The question is: who else will be able to afford to pursue music as a hobby? “It depresses me how many middle and upper class people there are in the music industry,” says manager Potts. “Because the working class just can’t afford to fork out £150 a day for van hire. The only artists doing that are people who have deeper pockets and can afford to take the hit.”
Of course, every act is different in terms of what they justify as reasonable outgoings and not everyone has the same costs, but Potts says from his experience, generally speaking, bands with four or five members now need to be playing 2,000+ capacity venues nationwide to “really start to see things tip”. That tipping point is out of reach for the majority. “Most people don’t actually get to that level,” Potts says. “Just look back at any festival lineup from 10-20 years ago and see which names are still on festival bills and how many you’re like: what happened to them?”
The gap between those who are flying and those who are floundering has become even more stark. “It feels like the top 1% have become the top 0.5%,” says Martin. “The level of artists we’re talking about here that are struggling to make things stack up financially would really surprise people.”
In 2022, the Grammy-winning Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab posted on X: “Touring has been amazing. We headlined a ton, had massive turnouts and have proven ourselves in all the markets. Yet still, running tens of thousands in debt from the tour and I’m being told that it’s ‘normal’. Why is this normal? This should not be normalised.”
I’m told that one US artist – who released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2023, which went Top 10 and placed very highly on numerous year-end polls and was nominated for a major award – worked out that the only way she could make her UK tour work was by sub-letting her home.
It’s a far cry from Taylor Swift’s record-breaking Eras jaunt. “The very high end of the live industry is reporting record profits,” says Martin. “You can’t have a healthy music ecosystem where at one end you’ve got people going ‘we’ve made more money than we’ve ever made’ and at the other end you’ve got relatively successful artists that are sofa-surfing while signed to a major label.”
Is there an answer? “When you’re touring Europe, you realise how much state funding in the arts there is,” says Excell. “It really needs more state funding and support from the top down.”
Martin echoes this. “The government needs to start looking at spending money on the music industry as an investment rather than as a cost,” he says. “But you also need to support a sector in a time of crisis. And this is a time of crisis.”

Soaring Insurance Costs Could Force House Prices To Fall—and Some Homeowners To Forgo Coverage
When Palm Beach County Commissioner Gregg Weiss learned his windstorm insurance was doubling to $20,000 a year, his insurance agent had an unexpected solution: Pay off the mortgage on his West Palm Peach, FL, home and drop the insurance entirely.
So, two years ago, he did just that. He figured his century-old home had survived “numerous” hurricanes. The money he saved on the insurance was used instead for a new roof. He also installed impact windows in the three-bedroom home, which is located about a mile from the shore.
“It felt terrible. … [But] it just didn’t make sense anymore,” says Weiss, who is also a former mayor. “When you look at the cost-benefit analysis, I couldn’t justify the cost of that insurance anymore.”
He continues to pay his regular insurance policy.
(Getty Images)
In the past few years, insurance companies have been increasing homeowners’ premiums , dropping longtime customers, and exiting risky parts of the country entirely as climate risks and their potential losses grow due to disasters like flooding, wildfires, and hurricanes.
That has forced homeowners such as Weiss to make tough choices, such as accepting the risks if they drop their insurance coverage, paying higher premiums, or moving to lower-cost areas. (Most homeowners with a mortgage are required to have insurance, which they can drop once their loans are paid off.)
High insurance premiums are already affecting the housing markets of the most affected areas, which continue to attract new residents often due to their natural beauty.
Homes might sit on the market for longer, prices are being forced down, and deals are falling apart. And it’s expected to only get worse as communities continue to grapple with increasing climate risks and insurance premiums. These forces are likely to contribute to where people live and what happens to the communities they leave behind.
Almost half of the homes in the country are at risk of severe or extreme damage from environmental threats, affecting nearly $22 trillion in real estate, according to a recent Realtor.com® report .
“It’s making it much more expensive to live here than it was just a few years ago,” says Weiss. “It causes a lot of stress.”
Last month, State Farm said it would discontinue offering coverage for 72,000 houses and apartments in the wildfire-prone state of California beginning in the summer. This comes less than a year after it stopped issuing new home insurance policies in the state.
The news follows Farmers Insurance announcing last summer that it wouldn’t be offering any home, auto, or umbrella policies in the state of Florida. This affected about 100,000 customers.
(David McNew/Getty Images)
If these homeowners can’t find other insurance plans, they will be forced to move onto the state plans of last resort that cover the customers that private insurers find too risky. This can often be expensive and homeowners might have to pick up additional plans to cover any gaps, especially if their mortgage lenders require the extra coverage. Some will go without insurance.
About 12% of homeowners did not purchase homeowners insurance, according to a 2023 report from the Insurance Information Institute and Munich Reinsurance America.
“The biggest challenge is lots of people have made decisions based on where to live and what properties to buy based on existing insurance policies,” says Benjamin Collier , a risk management and insurance professor at Temple University in Philadelphia. “When you change the costs, people get hurt.”
Nationally, insurance premiums rose 11.3% in 2023 and shot up 33.8% from 2018 to 2023, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence .
“In certain regions, the surge in insurance costs has been staggering, nearly tripling within a span of just a few years,” says Jenny Lenz , managing director of Dolly Lenz Real Estate. “This sharp rise is placing immense strain on the budgets of homebuyers, with some even being forced to withdraw entirely due to insurance premiums becoming simply unmanageable or unattainable.”
How much could home prices be affected by higher insurance premiums?
Estimates vary on how much home prices could be affected by climate risk and higher insurance costs.
If home insurance premiums were expected to rise 20% annually for the next 20 years, home prices could fall as much as 10%, according to a recent report from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Homes at risk of flooding could face even deeper price reductions. For every $1 increase in someone’s flood insurance premium, their home value falls by $41, says Shan Ge , a finance professor at New York University. In areas with high sea level risk, that $1 increase translates into a $250 home value decline. Home price appreciation also falls.
“If premiums go up by $100, home values go down by $4,100 for homes not exposed to sea level rise and by $25,000 for homes that are exposed to sea level rise,” says Ge. She was one of the authors of an academic paper that looked at how the increases in the National Flood Insurance Program premiums affected home prices.
More people are beginning to take the threat of a 100-year storm more seriously as insurance premiums rise, says Ge. Just a few years ago, the threat of a natural disaster striking their property might have seemed improbable or a problem for the distant future. But higher insurance costs that better measure their risks are hitting their budgets today .
The higher insurance costs haven’t pushed home prices down by too much—yet. With so few homes available on the market, buyers and investors are keeping prices high, even for homes in risky areas. However, experts believe it’s only a matter of time before that changes.
“In some areas, homes that are legitimately in a high-risk area, they begin to sit on the market longer. Ultimately, you begin to see discounting,” says Jesse Keenan , a sustainable real estate and urban planning professor at Tulane University in New Orleans.
The discounts are just due to higher insurance premiums. Homebuyers are also weighing the likelihood of future damages.
Higher insurance premiums are hurting home sales in some areas
Already, some homebuyers are having trouble qualifying for mortgages or are backing out of deals due to higher insurance costs, says Joe Uzee , president of the mortgage division of Gulf Coast Bank & Trust. It has 20 branches in Louisiana, a state that has been ravaged by hurricanes .
About 30% to 40% of the deals he sees in his state fall apart after someone who is under contract to purchase a home gets insurance quotes.
“They may say the insurance premium is making this payment unaffordable,” says Uzee. “It could certainly hinder a seller’s ability to sell a house.”
About 90% of Florida investors missed out on at least one deal because of insurance issues, says Rick Sharga , CEO of CJ Patrick Co., a real estate and mortgage intelligence firm. They couldn’t get insurance or couldn’t afford it for a property they wanted.
He’s personally experienced the troubles with rising insurance premiums. His insurer canceled the policy on his Orange County, CA, home due to wildfire risk. This pushed him into the state’s FAIR plan (the insurer of last resort), and he purchased an additional plan to go with it. He’s paying twice as much as he was just two years ago.
Experts say that eventually only the very wealthy and investors may be able to afford homes along the storm-prone coasts and wildfire-prone parts of the West. Everyone else, including retirees on fixed incomes, might move to nearby inland or safer counties—if they can afford to do so.
(Sean Rayford/Getty Images)
“Lower-income and middle-income people will find it increasingly challenging to live in these areas,” says Dave Jones , the director of the Climate Risk Initiative at the Center for Law, Energy, and the Environment at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. He is also the former insurance commissioner for the state of California. “Some wealthier people and investors will move in behind those who are moving out.”
Many of the people moving to flood zones along the nation’s scenic coastlines are indeed wealthier individuals, says Parinitha Sastry , a finance professor at Columbia University in New York City.
“If people want to rebuild and retain their communities, I’m for that,” she says. However, “people who can’t afford to bear the disaster losses shouldn’t be in those areas. It’s going to wipe them out.”
Insurance premiums are often artificially low for the riskiest homes
As high as insurance costs are, they’re often artificially low for the riskiest homes.
Prices have been driven up in recent years due to rising climate risks, more people moving to vulnerable parts of the country (such as Florida), inflation increasing the costs to rebuild after a disaster, and reinsurance companies, which insure the insurance companies. When reinsurers increase their prices, those costs get passed on to policyholders.
However, federal and state governments have been trying to keep prices in check so as not to hurt homeowners or destroy communities.
For example, the federally run National Flood Insurance Program, which provides flood insurance to homeowners, has capped increases to 18% a year for most policyholders. Critics have said that this keeps premiums lower for the highest-risk properties, but requires less vulnerable property owners to pay more to spread out the risk.
In addition, each state has an insurance commissioner, many of whom must approve rate increases before insurers hike premiums. That can become a standoff in some states where each side is waiting for the other to blink first.
The result is insurance companies are pulling out of the riskiest areas, pushing homeowners into the state insurance plans.
One potential solution is to build more resilient homes that can withstand natural disasters, says Lars Powell , director of the Alabama Center for Insurance Information and Research at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
“That has to be the future,” says Powell. “Or only the rich people will live on the coast because only they can afford the insurance or afford not to have insurance.”

Billie Eilish is coming off quite a thrilling couple of years, and it looks like she's gearing up to continue the excitement through 2025. We'll show you everything you need to know about how to get Billie Eilish tickets, including details on accessing the pre-sale.
Eilish has already won nine Grammy Awards at just 22 years old, and she added a second Oscar to the mix earlier this year when she won Best Original Song at the Academy Awards for her work on "What Was I Made For?" in the Barbie movie, alongside her brother Finneas. How to get Billie Eilish tickets
Initial Billie Eilish tickets are sold through Ticketmaster . Tickets are first sold through a pre-sale from Tuesday, April 30 at 12 p.m. ET to Friday, May 3 at 11 a.m. ET. Among those able to access the pre-sale are American Express cardholders. Starting on Friday, May 3 at 12 p.m. ET, tickets will go on sale to the general public on Ticketmaster. Historically, Billie Eilish tickets are snapped up pretty quickly, so fans will want to be waiting in the queue as soon as the sale starts.
Listings for Eilish's shows through resale websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats popped up before the pre-sale started. People are welcome to browse those sites as well, although those tickets are not guaranteed yet.
For the "Hit Me Hard and Soft" world tour, tickets on many dates are not eligible for transfer outside the official Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange program. States like New York, Illinois, Colorado, Virginia, Utah, and Connecticut have laws that don't limit ticket resale, so people can purchase tickets through resale websites for concerts in those regions. For shows outside those states, you'll probably want to stick with buying from the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange if you cannot get your hands on original standard tickets during the initial sale.
How much are Billie Eilish tickets?
Original Billie Eilish ticket prices vary depending on the date and location within a venue. While Ticketmaster hasn't listed any prices yet, the Heritage Bank Center website (which will host Eilish's Cincinnati, Ohio show on November 8) shared a range of prices. According to the venue's website , tickets start at $59.50 and go up to $499.50.

Billie Eilish fans lash out at ‘ridiculous’ ticket prices for 2025 tour

Billie Eilish fans have called out the US pop star after it emerged that standing tickets to her forthcoming arena shows were being sold for £145 each.
Pre-sale tickets to the singer’s Hit Me Hard and Soft tour became available between 30 April to 1 May, including early access for American Express card members.
The 22-year-old will be performing a string of dates in the UK and Ireland next year, including five nights at the O2 Arena in London, two nights in Glasgow, four in Manchester and two in Dublin.
In press material announcing the tour, it was revealed that Eilish’s team had chosen to use Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange, meaning fans have the option to resell tickets to other fans in the US or Canada if they are no longer able to attend themselves.
“The tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value,” the statement said.
As tickets went on sale, however, many fans were dismayed to learn how much they were priced at, with many branding the sum “ridiculous” in the midst of a cost of living crisis.
“I honestly wanted more Billie tickets but £145 for standing is so ridiculous I can’t even process it,” one fan wrote on X/Twitter.
“£145 for Billie Eilish tickets does she not know there’s a cost of living [crisis] happening in the UK,” fan Zoe said.
Another remarked: “Me coming onto Ticketmaster seeing Billie Eilish prices then coming straight back out again. £145 for standing is this delusion?” In the replies, the fan compared the price to the first time she saw Eilish live, when she paid £20 for a ticket.

Not everyone had sympathy for fans though, as some said it was their choice to pay that much for a ticket.
X/Twitter user Billy asked: “At what point do people realise they’re being conned and priced out. If you’re buying tickets at that price then honestly you’re part of the problem now.”
Matt, the writer behind the Scientists of Sound music blog, agreed: “People paying nearly £145 for Billie Eilish tickets are part of the problem. When these venues sell out at these prices artists and promoters couldn’t care less as they’re getting away with it. Fans are being completely priced out of these events and it’s only getting worse.”
One fan, who preferred to remain anonymous, told The Independent that buying tickets to concerts often felt like an “online war”, with fans feeling pressured into paying extortionate sums or else risk missing out.
“Artists and ticketing companies know that their fans will pay any amount of money to see their favourite artists,” he said, “and it’s only getting worse because fandoms are so strong. At what point does it go too far? This feels pretty close.”
At what point does it go too far? This feels pretty close
Confirming he had paid £146 for a standing ticket at the newly built Co-op Live arena in Manchester, the fan admitted he felt exploited.
“I go to quite a few gigs a year, [and] whenever it comes to the bigger shows you’re looking at a minimum of £70 or £80,” he said. “I paid £110 for standing to see Taylor Swift at Wembley, which actually feels like a bit of a bargain now.”
The fan said that artist exploitation went beyond concert tickets: “I’ve got into collecting vinyl recently and didn’t realise how many variants there are per album with exclusive songs or photos or whatever it might be. These artists know that their fans want every version because they love them so much. It just feels unfair.”
Jason Burt bought tickets for his 14-year-old daughter and said they were around the same price they paid for Eilish’s last tour, “but slightly less than I did for [Bruce] Springsteen this time last year”.
“The price is, in my opinion, excessive, despite the fact she will be thrilled by the concert,” he said. “[My daughter] is aware of the cost and appreciates how lucky she is to be able to go.”
Mr Burt said there was “definitely an element of exploitation” involved with artists of Eilish’s size, but questioned how much involvement the artists themselves had in deciding ticket prices.
He also pointed out the other ways in which artists are able to generate revenue from their fans: “If you have 30+ formats of an album, for example, there is an implicit understanding that some fans will buy all of them, which in turns pushes its chart position exponentially,” he said.
“Similarly, merch at gigs. Some will want all of it. As a parent, I wouldn’t buy it all and i’m lucky my daughter has no interest in that level of ‘completism’, but I’m sure it puts pressure on parents at a time we can least afford it.”
A representative for Eilish declined to comment when contacted by The Independent.
Eilish recently hit out at major artists making “40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing ust to get you to keep buying more”, branding the practice “wasteful”.
She was later forced to clarify that she was not calling out fellow pop star Taylor Swift, who had recently announced a number of different versions of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department.
“I wasn’t singling anyone out, these are industry-wide systemic issues. and when it comes to variants, so many artists release them, including ME! Which I clearly state in the article,” Eilish wrote on Instagram.
“The climate crisis is now and it’s about all of us being part of the problem and trying to do better sheesh.”

Akuma rages into Street Fighter 6 on May 22
Akuma will challenge foes worthy enough to face him in Fighting Ground, World Tour, and the Battle Hub.
Legend tells of a man so consumed by his pursuit of strength that his soul and body have now faded into nothingness. Though many wish he were a mere legend, Akuma will rise again in Street Fighter 6 , to challenge foes worthy enough to face him on May 22. Will you harness the power of the Satsui no Hado or succumb to it?
Akuma made his debut in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as a hidden boss and playable character. In Street Fighter 6, Akuma’s thirst for strength has taken a maddening toll. He carves figures of the hundreds of opponents he has felled and places them in the cave he resides, their silence beckoning him to fall deeper into his path of inner strife.
Nakayama-san’s comments on his design: Akuma now has a more striking presence complete with gray hair. We also used Buddha statues and animals as references for his musculature in an attempt to give the character a more memorable aesthetic.
Like the rest of the Year 1 characters, Akuma can become your Master in World Tour. Find him in a new area, Enma’s Hollow, located on the island of Gokuento, but beware the effects of the Satsui no Hado lest you become tormented by its hunger. After increasing your bond with Akuma, he’ll teach you his demonic moves, which you can then assign to your avatar to be used in your World Tour travels or in Avatar Battles in the Battle Hub.
As a man who has spent his life honing his skills, Akuma’s move set will be familiar to long-time fans, but the Satsui no Hado has unlocked new abilities. His fast walk speed and long-reaching normals allow him to control space and the flow of the fight.
Let’s start with Akuma’s iconic moves that make him a well-rounded pursuer. His infamous fireball, Gou Hadoken is back, and can be charged up so that a “red fireball” is released instead, giving Akuma more options upon hit or block. Everyone’s favorite air fireball, Zanku Hadoken, can cover Akuma’s aggressive approach. His dragon punch, Gou Shoryuken, works as an anti-air or as a combo ender. Finally, Tatsumaki Zanku-Kyaku sees Akuma spinning forward in a series of kicks that change properties based on which kick button is pressed.
Like his previous iterations, Akuma uses Ashura Senku to glide on the battlefield cloaked in shadows. Be wary of using this ability since it can be stopped mid-way by an opponent’s attacks. However, Akuma has honed this move’s vulnerabilities and can now use Oboro Throw during the approach to surprise opponents.
Adamant Flame is one of Akuma’s new moves, where he performs a forward thrust engulfed in flames. This move is useful in combos and for exploiting vulnerable opponents due to its long reach. The OD version will wall splat opponents, opening up more opportunities in the corner.
Demon Raid is the Street Fighter 6 version of Hyakkishu. As Akuma leaps into the air with this move, choose to follow up with a low kick, overhead attack, dive kick, or to end the leap early. The OD version of Demon Raid unlocks two more follow-ups: an air fireball and an air tatsu.
Akuma’s Level 1 Super Art is Messatsu Gohado, where he fires a highly concentrated ball of Satsui no Hado. Like most Level 1s, this move is invulnerable on start-up. Akuma has a second Level 1 called Tenma Gozanku where he unleashes the fireball from the air.
Empyrean’s End is Akuma’s Level 2 Super Art where he turns the Satsui no Hado into a powerful flame and ignites it within the opponent. Using this move close to the corner will result in a wall splat where Akuma can continue his pressure or damage. Empyrean’s End is also invulnerable on start-up.
Akuma’s first Level 3 Super Art is Sip of Calamity, another move that is invulnerable on start-up! He throws opponents on the ground with their face and follows up with a single devastating blow.
Finally, the move you’ve all been waiting for: Shun Goku Satsu or the “Raging Demon.” This second Level 3 Super Art can only be performed when his Vitality is low enough for a Critical Art and can be used to end combos. This time, he allows you to see what happens during the one-second worth of nightmares.
Coming with this update is a new stage, Enma’s Hollow, where Akuma resides to continue his hellbent training. Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners will receive this stage on May 22.
Akuma’s Outfit 2 is inspired by his debut look in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Speaking of outfits, Rashid, A.K.I., Ed, and Akuma will have their Outfit 3s also available for purchase when Akuma releases, and will automatically be distributed to all Year 1 Ultimate Pass owners.
One last thing before we sign off. With the Akuma update comes the major balance patch we mentioned in the past where all characters will receive changes. We’ll have more to share about this in the future as we approach May 22.
Get ready to unleash your inner demon when Akuma rages in!
