Spectacle Island Clambake at Summershack
Had a great time at the clam/lobster bake, especially watching the sunset on the porch after dinner.
Couldnt recommend this enough, after u pay 15 dollars for the ferry there are no other extra fees, u get to go hiking, kayaking and historic tours all for free. Id reccomend trying to this in the morning to get the best value for money but even still its a fantastic spot
My husband & I decided to finally explore the Boston Harbor Islands....We went on an extremely busy weekend...the Centennial Boston Celebration so we expected crowds, crowds and more crowds but what we found was a relaxing trip on a beautiful day away from the city and on the island we chose to explore....very few people around. We had planned to stopover on Spectacle for a bit and then on to George's island to see the fort but because it was a crazy weekend with the tall ships in the harbor etc..the scheduling was a bit crazy and we actually were not able to get off at Spectacle and had to go straight on to George's. What we saw from the boat...Spectacle looks beautiful with trails and tons of green space to relax. The boat ride was rather full but we still had a place to sit so our trip over was fine. George's Island is lots of fun..it has an educational area, a nice snack bar (food & drinks were quite inexpensive) and of course a massive fort to explore. There are picnic areas around the fort on the water but we mainly went to explore the fort and we were not disappointed. It is amazing and has tons of underground passageways and rooms to walk thru, kids must love this place. You could play an amazing game of hide and seek at this fort but quite possibly never find the person, it is huge. Great views of the Boston skyline and surrounding islands from here as well. Do yourself a favor and put this island on your list of things to do.
These islands provide an excellent break from the city at a realistic cost with a very pleasant sailing on the ferry prior to arrival. Visitors can island hop at no extra charge.
We went to George's island. A half hour boat trip from the long wharf in Boston. It's an amazing journey across the bay. Islands, tall ships, navy boats and sea birds. The island is small complete with first and sea wall. There is a museum, shop and cafe. You can catch bias to the smaller islands from here too. Allow a couple of hours to explore
harbor ferries need a return trip time at purchase-they gaurentee this time but won't hold you to it and allow you to go standby all other return times. Georges Island has an old fort (we call it a castle here) that is great for kids to explore & food. Spectacle island has good beach. local tip- take Boston's Best Cruise (MBTA boat w/green stripe) from Long Wharf & book 'site seeing' not commute & for $6 you get a great 45 min tour of the harbor w/quick stops in Quincy at the USS Salem & Hull. & then return to Long Wharf. Beer, drinks, r & limited food served

About Brato : Brato Brewhouse + Kitchen is an award-winning, Boston-based brewpub founded in 2019 by Alex and Jonathan, just a couple of guys who really love great food and beer.
The word “Brato” comes from the early word “b’rewh” meaning “to boil or brew” and the Germanic root for bratwurst. Inspired by old German folklore, the dual dragons represent the collaboration of beer and food with a hop at the heart. Not only do our dragons protect our home, but they also light the fires to brew our beer and warm our food. Their strength and resiliency is core to our mission.
Brato intends to become a cornerstone of the community, sourcing raw materials for their kitchen from local sustainable sources. Partnerships with local farms and fisheries will give Brato access to the fresh meats, dairy, produce, and seafood that make up the thoughtfully designed menu of creative hand-crafted dishes. Although hops and yeast may come from various regions around the world, Brato’s fresh craft brews will frequently highlight local maltsters as they apply to specific beer recipes.
