Chinese Man is a trip-hop collective band created in 2004 in the southeastern region of France in the small Aix-En Province.

The trio consists of three members, self-described as: a head of a Brazilian favela with an eccentric hairstyle named Zé Mateo, a Buddhist monk specialized in euthanasia aka Sly and Polish gangster in Long Beach near Lyon, well known as High Ku. A record label of the same name carries the band, although the Chinese Man Records is based in Marseille, France. In addition to Zé Mateo, Sly and High Ku, beat maker, Leo the Bug and Yan also contribute their sounds to some of the compositions. Altogether they draw upon influences that include hip-hop, funk, dub, reggae, and jazz. They gained a lot of attention when their song “I’ve Got That Tune” was chosen for the Mercedes-Benz promotional campaign.

Since their inception in 2005, they have released a lot of material, starting with “The Pandi Groove EP” followed by their first full-length album, “The Bootleg Sessions.” Every year that followed they would go on to release an EP. In 2007 they released “The Groove Sessions Volume 1” followed two years later with “The Groove Sessions Volume 2.” They then released “Racing With The Sun” in 2011 followed a mere year later by “Live á la Cigale.” Their 2014 album was the third in “The Groove Sessions.”

Live reviews

Despite the name, Chinese Man are a French trip hop act, and they are absolutely incredible. Their fusion of hip hop, funk, reggae, and jazz all rolled into one umbrella genre is fresh and exciting, as well as a real showcase of talent. I was a fan of DJ Marsellie Ze Mateo before I’d heard of Chinese Man, and seeing a post on his website, was compelled to find out more about the group.

After listening through Racing With The Sun, and The Groove Sessions, I was completely sold, and hooked on the bands innovative musicianship. The venue where I watched thr group was small and intimate, and I think it was the best way to see them live. Their energy was contagious, and watching them jump around the stage had everyone up on the dance floor.

The combination of a live DJ and rapping/hip hop singing is something that you don’t come across very often, and it was really cool to see it performed live. You can see the extent of their talent much more in a live show, and really appreciate how complex their music is. As well as musical performance, their use of videos and lighting was awesome, and helped keep the atmosphere so intense and exciting.

Despite the misleading band name, Chinese Man is the pseudonym for the French trip hop trio behind releases including 'The Groove Sessions'. Crossing borders with ease as the set joyously skips between hip-hop, funk, techno and jazz. This is no simple dance show, the visuals have been carefully designed and work in combination with a dazzling lighting display.

You become totally encapsulated within the world of Chinese Man and it would be impressive to simply stand and watch yet what makes it even better is you have an incredible ever changing soundtrack that is near impossible to predict yet consistency danceable. The whole room is jumping beneath visions of landscapes and sunsets whilst the jazz stylings of 'Get Up' fades effortlessly into 'Once Upon a Time' along with the visuals. The men onstage all work incredibly hard to keep the operation moving and remain in total motion throughout the night as they dance, mix and work. The audience erupts in total elation at the final massive track and all the hard work has truly paid off.

Love the show and as usual, I had a blast! Great atmosphere and great people on stage. Definitely worth going to a concert of these guys, I know I will be going again

Jackson Wang ‘Magic Man World Tour 2022-2023: Dates, tickets, and more details

Acclaimed Chinese singer and entrepreneur Jackson Wang, along with AEG Presents, announced his first solo headline world tour ‘Magic Man’ on 28 September 2022.

Kickstarting on 26 November 2022, the tour travels across the world including major entertainment hubs like Thailand, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, London, Paris and Dubai.

About magic man.

Magic Man is Wang’s sophomore music album which soared to the Top 15 on Billboard 200 and bagged a position in the Top 13 on Billboard Artist 100 in 2022. The highly successful 10-track album comprises hits such as the newly rolled-out “Blue” as well as previously released “Blow” and “Cruel.”

The high-voltage album has heavy ‘70s rock influence and explores the realms of toxic love and self-discovery. This is an uncharted arena for Wang who is seen to be quite vulnerable and confused.

Commenting on the album Wang said, “ Magic Man is the ultimate form of oneself, having gone through different peaks and valleys of life to arrive at the most authentic version. Everyone is able to become their own form of Magic Man . It’s not a mystery, everything is just magic.” He is also the producer of this album, along with Daryl K and Henry Cheung.

The world tour will commence on 26 November in Bangkok , Thailand and conclude on 4 February 2023 in Dubai, UAE. Ticket booking details will be announced later.

About Jackson Wang

Carving a strong name for himself, Jackson Wang is the first Chinese solo singer to perform on the 2022 Coachella main stage. He has also performed at the HITC Festival grand finale in August. Today, his strong and growing fanbase is spread across the globe as he is committed to taking Chinese culture and music traditions on the global map.

As an entrepreneur, Wang is the founder of Team Wang records & Team Wang design. In 2017, he also found an eponymous recording label and is involved in the entire music production process including songwriting, arrangement and shooting the music video.

Jackson Wang is getting ready to hit the road. On Wednesday (Sept. 28), the GOT7 member announced his plans for a world tour in support of his recently released album, Magic Man .

Wang revealed the details of his 2022-2023 trek via his social media accounts, excitedly writing, “Finally. The 1st time in my life I get to properly tour now. After all this … MAGIC MAN WORLD TOUR 2022-2023 #MAGICMAN is coming. See u there. I promise it’s different.”

In 2023, the 28-year-old will take his tour to London on Jan. 12, and to Paris three days later on Jan. 15. Dubai is also getting a visit, with Wang performing on Feb. 4. The tour poster, which features the singer in a leather jacket, states “and more,” hinting at possible tour dates to come.

Wang released Magic Man , his second solo studio album, on Sept. 9; it debuted at No. 15 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. The set charted even higher on Billboard ‘s Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales charts at No. 3.

Speaking with People , Wang explained that Magic Man is “way more extreme than all the stuff that I’ve released in the past. And I think it’s because on this album, I’m in my most raw form that I’ve ever been in my career as a solo artist, just not caring about whoever I was and whatever I had before. And [I] just want to go for being completely me and with no filter.”

Chinese Man – Summer Tour 2022 (CANCELLED)

The concert of the French trip hop group Chinese Man , scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2022, starting with 9:00 pm, at the Park Nord Stadio Euganeo, in Padua , as part of the Sherwood Festival 2022 , was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chinese Man is composed of DJ Marseille Zé Mateo, High Ku and beatmaker SLY. Beatmakers Leo le Bug and Le Yan also are involved in the group and participated in the composition of several pieces.

Frequent live additions to the crew include Taiwan MC, MC Youthstar and ASM (Green T & FP). The audiovisual content for which the group is well-known is produced by Fred&Annabelle, and VYZ Team.

THE FESTIVAL

Sherwood Festival is held Padua since the early ‘90s. More than two decades after its debut, the festival gained such a strenght, that tens of thousands of people wait for it every year, and begin their summer with it.

Among the numerous artists who performed on the Sherwood stage during the past editions of the festival, we can mention Manu Chao, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Gogol Bordello, Pat Metheney, Prodigy, Mogwai, Shaggy, Alborosie, Alpha Blondy, Fatboy Slim, Die Antwoord, General Levy, Blonde Redhead, Alice in Chains, Shantel, Sepultura, and Dubioza Kolektiv.

Park Nord is a parking lot located north of Stadio Euganeo, a football stadium in the northern area of Padua.

To reach the venue, from the center of Padua, you can take the bus U11 towards Taggi and get off in Via Montà, then continue on foot along Via Croce Verde towards Stadio Euganeo. Alternatively, take the bus U13 towards Altichiero and get off in Via Sacro Cuore, then continue on foot along Via Due Palazzi towards Stadio Euganeo.
