Coldplay have announced two concerts in Dublin next summer as part of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

The band will play Croke Park on Thursday 29th and Friday, August 30th, 2024, subject to licence.

The new dates come following the British bandā€™s summer 2023 European stadium run, which concluded on Wednesday night with a fourth Amsterdam show. The dates next summer will be the third run of European dates as part of this tour.

Presale tickets for the Dublin concerts begin at 10am on Tuesday July 25th, with general sale starting on Friday July 28th. People can sign up for artist presale through the bandā€™s website.

The dates include the Coldplayā€™s first shows in Greece, Romania and Finland, as well as their first show in Rome since 2003 and first visit to Budapest since 2008.

The last time the band ā€“ comprising Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion and creative director Phil Harvey ā€“ played in Ireland was in 2017, as part of their A Head Full of Dreams tour. Many fans were left disappointed with tickets selling out within minutes.

The Music of the Spheres World Tour opened in March 2022, and the band has since sold more than 7.5 million tickets.

Last month, a report by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology suggested Coldplayā€™s current tour has so far produced 47 per cent less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17 on a show-by-show comparison, and that five million trees have already been planted around the world, equating to almost one tree per attendee at the time of the study.

The band formed in 1997 and have nine studio albums, the most recent being Music of the Spheres, which was released in 2021. Their genre of music has evolved over that time, moving from an alternative rock band in its formative years to a more pop-centric ensemble more recently.

Coldplayā€™s Irish dates next summer are part of a third run of European dates for their record-breaking ā€œMusic of the Spheres World Tour,ā€ which has sold more than 7.5 million tickets since its first stop in March 2022.

Recent tour reviews

I had always heard Coldplay were a fantastic band to see live. They did not disappoint last night at Fedex Field, right in the midst of their joyous and decidedly over-the-top Head Full of Dreams tour.

The show began with an explosion of color and light (including the LED wristbands supplied to every concertgoer) in the titular track on the band's touring album. Then came fan-favorite "Yellow," followed by "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," the ever-popular "The Scientist," and "Birds" (the latter was a bit of a personal disappointment as it replaced the brilliant "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" from recent setlists). This part of the show finished with the anthem "Paradise," featuring an incredible remix outro.

Next the show slowed down for an intimate trio of songs (most of us actually took a seat). This included one of the better tracks from the sub-par "Ghost Stories", "Magic."

Soon, however, things picked up with the timeless piano strokes of "Clocks," themed to a magical red light show. Next came the lighthearted "Charlie Brown." Before it began, lead singer Chris Martin asked everyone to put away their phones and simply enjoy the show. This was followed by the radio hit "Hymn for the Weekend," a candlelit (okay...Iphone flashlight lit) "Fix You," and "Viva la Vida." This last one was remarkable, as nearly the entire stadium knew the lyrics and sang along to the triumphant "Oh-oh-ohhhh" chant. The groovy "Adventure of a Lifetime" finished off this section, featuring Chris gettin' down with the audience, asking everyone to "Get low!"

Then came the highlight of the night for me: an acoustic quad of older (*cough* better *cough*) Coldplay songs which were as intimate as they were nostalgic. The lovely riffs of "In my Place" started off the set. "Don't Panic" was sung by drummer Will Champion; it's one of my favorites. But it couldn't top what was (for me) the best song of the night: "Trouble." Somber but beautiful in its own way, "Trouble" is a rare find in the setlists of today's Coldplay and was absolutely fantastic. Finally came another rare gem: "Green Eyes," which was somewhat marred by Chris's well-intentioned attempt at giving the local Redskins some luck (HA! what folly) by changing the lyrics.

The finale of the show was the hopeful and popular trio of "Something Just like This," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Up and Up." This last track was played against the backdrop of the magical and visually stunning music video for the song.

And if there were two adjectives to sum up the show as a whole, they would be just that: magical and visually stunning. Thanks for an awesome show, Coldplay!

First of all I need to just say wow! Wow! Yesterday I experienced one of the greatest nights of my life. Yesterday I really did feel like I was part of something special, something so big and beautiful. The love, the happiness and the excaitment people were feeling last night were something you can't put words on. We stood in the rain for so many hours, we sat in a que and then we stood in the rain again.. but let me just say that when Coldplay came on stage they put on the best god damn show ever. You could really feel their thankfulness during the show. They promised us (in Chris Martins own words) "The best fucking show ever" and let me tell you it was! During the night I got to experience people from different countries dancing and singing along together, I got to experience that moment when Chris decided to write a new song about Sweden and Gothenburg! The night was amazing in so many ways. And just as he said during the night, that he believes when people are working together and last night everybody in that arena stood together. We celebrated the music, the evening and most of all we celebrated the love. Because in the end of the day Love is what matters and it will always win.

Yesterday was beautiful, just pure beautiful!

A Coldplay concert is a real face to face experience for a someone who love their songs. It may not be an intimate experience but considering the legions of fans that they have only a concert can accommodate everyone who are waiting all their lives for a chance to hear them live. and they never disappoint. A total performance complete with lasers and light and firework BUT without much fanfare, just them singing & playing their hearts OUT song after song alone or in harmony with the fans some crying, most gleefully dancing to their upbeat song or swaying OR slow dancing to slow Fix You or Yellow and probably thinking of someone they "cannot replace". Chris Martin is an awesome guy and so are the rest of the band. May their personal lives be as awesome as their professional lives, they deserve that too. as to Singapore, it may not be as engaging as it would be in the Philippines but hey, no one can complain; i had the best time celebrating my birthday in one of the best stadium this side of town with around 50K Coldpay fans celebrating with me :) :). Long live Coldplay, may you continue to bring joy to you fans worldwide. Looking forward to another Coldplay concert experience in the future.

Indonesian religious group threatens to block Coldplay’s Jakarta concert, government working to secure additional show

Ticket prices also caused an uproar, going as high as IDR11million

Coldplay

A religious group in Indonesia, Persaudaraan Alumni (PA) 212, has called for Coldplay ‘s November concert in Jakarta to be cancelled, saying it will take action to hinder the concert if it isn’t scrapped.

  • READ MORE:Ā  Coldplay ā€“ ā€˜Music Of The Spheresā€™ review: world-conquering pop group reaches for the stars

Following Coldplay’s Asia tour announcement earlier this month , PA 212 deputy secretary-general Novel Bamukmin announced his disdain for the band’s planned Jakarta concert, saying they “promote LGBTQ+ values and atheism”, which go against Islamic believes.

Bamukin threatened to hinder the concert if it is not scrapped, per a Coconuts report: “I urge the committee and promoter to immediately cancel their intention to bring Coldplay. If they still insist, then we will hold a big action by blocking the location or we will surround the airport”.

Should the PA 212 successfully get the show cancelled, it would mark the second time that the party has forced a show’s annulment, following Lady Gaga’s planned 2012 concert. The 2012 show was scrapped over safety concerns as the PA 212 prepared for protests due to their disapproval of the artist.

In response to Bamukin’s threats to protest and potentially disrupt the show, Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said in a statement to the press that local authorities are primed and prepared to handle the matter should it arise.

“Weā€™ll make sure that there is no threat from any party as Indonesia prioritizes service to its guests as our customs and culture,” Uno said in a statement to TEMPO .

Despite the risk of protests, Uno has also revealed that he is currently campaigning for Coldplay to add a second show in Jakarta , and has reportedly spoken to concert promoter PK Entertainment, claiming that his government will help to facilitate the show.

Ticket prices to Coldplay’s Jakarta concert also caused an uproar , going as high as IDR11million (SGD$993) for its Ultimate Package, which includes a CAT 1 ticket, a backstage tour, “a photo opportunity by a professional photographer from where Coldplay will perform later”, a dedicated entry lane, custom merch, a “specially designed sustainable Coldplay gift item” and dedicated access to merch booths.

11 juta. Nonton berdua. Berarti 22 juta. kalau beli bakso bisa untuk nraktir satu kecamatan. Tapi tukang bakso tiap hari ada. Coldplay belum tentu ada lagi. Hmmm — Fiersa Besari (@FiersaBesari) May 11, 2023
Why is everyone spending so much on tickets when 90% of you guys are just gonna be recording it through your phones anyway šŸ¤Ø https://t.co/YqDvWQDT0X — Sihk (@sihksihk) May 17, 2023

Indonesian musician and online personality Fiersa Bersari tweeted: “Eleven million. Thatā€™s 22 million for a pair. I can buy bakso (meatballs) to treat an entire district [with that kind of money]. But bakso sellers are around everyday. Coldplay may never come back. Hmm”

Other tickets ranged from IDR800,000 (S$72) to IDR5million (S$451). However, despite the uproar, all available tickets have officially sold out per organiser PK Entertainment .

Earlier this month, the leader of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS)Ā  recently called for their show in Kuala Lumpurā€™s National Stadium Bukit Jalil on November 22 to be cancelled . Following Hassanā€™s call to cancel the show ā€“ which would be the bandā€™s first-ever in the country ā€“ several government ministers rebuked the protest.

Since then, Chris Martin has responded to calls for the band to cancel their forthcoming concert in the country . ā€œEvery time I meet Malaysian people, I feel such a sense of love and warmth. Everybody is welcome to our show. We love all people, all kinds of people, all religions,ā€ he said.

ā€œAll leaders, all followers ā€“ nobody is excluded. We really want you to come to our show and feel free to be yourself and feel free to let everybody be themselves. Anyone who is not happy we are coming, weā€™re sorry, but we love you too.ā€

Following the sellout success of Coldplay’s summer 2023 European stadium run, last Thursday the band announced a third run of European dates for June, July and August 2024, as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour.

Since the first Music Of The Spheres World Tour date in March 2022, Coldplay have sold more than 7.5 million tickets – the most for any tour over the last two years. The tour has also received rave reviews from fans and critics alike, picking up accolades including Favorite Touring Artist at the 2022 AMAs and Tour of The Year at the 2023 iHeartRadio Awards.

Last month, a report by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology revealed that Coldplay’s current tour has so far produced 47% less CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour in 2016/17 (on a show-by-show comparison), and that 5 million trees have already been planted around the world (one for each concert goer so far).

The new dates are as follows:

Coldplay have also confirmed they will make a limited number of Infinity Tickets available for the shows at a later date. Infinity Tickets are released for every Coldplay show to make the Music Of The Spheres World Tour accessible to fans for an affordable price. They will cost the equivalent of €20 per ticket. They are restricted to a maximum of two tickets per purchaser, and must be bought in pairs (which will be located next to each other).

DHL is the Official Logistics Partner of the Music Of The Spheres World Tour, supporting the band in their mission to cut the tour’s direct emissions by 50%.
