LOS ANGELES , July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — After more than 50 years of touring, and consistently selling out arenas and stadiums worldwide, the Eagles announced today that their upcoming “The Long Goodbye”  will be the band’s final tour.

Thirteen shows will be initially announced. The first set of dates will begin September 7, 2023 , in New York .

The Eagles’ long-time contemporaries and fellow Hall of Famers, Steely Dan,  will be joining these historic shows and commemorating their own 50+ year career.

Presale tickets and VIP packages will be available starting Wednesday, July 12 for all announced shows. The general on-sale will start Friday, July 14 at 10:00 AM local time.

During “The Long Goodbye,” the Eagles – Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit , with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey – will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

Over the band’s more than 50 years of touring, the Eagles have performed more than 1,000 concerts around the world, accounting for more than 15 million tickets. Eagles’ tours have consistently ranked in the Top 10 of both concert industry publications, Billboard and Pollstar .

In the Fall of 1971, the Eagles formed, pioneered, and personified a uniquely American musical style blending country, folk, R&B, rock, and pop sensibilities, and would go onto become one of the most creatively and commercially successful bands of all time.  In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons.

The Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums, and topped the singles charts five times. They earned six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their very first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

The band’s Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.  Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum.  After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and earned two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid In Town” and “Hotel California.”

The Eagles Announce ‘The Long Goodbye’ Farewell Tour Dates, Steely Dan to Support

The Eagles have just announced a series of 2023 tour dates, the first on their The Long Goodbye farewell tour. Fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act Steely Dan have been tabbed as support for the fall run.

Much like Deep Purple 's own The Long Goodbye tour, the trek does not have a set end date, though The Eagles are expected to be on the road through 2025 and will "perform as many shows in each marker at their audience demands," per a press release.

The band is currently comprised of Don Henley , Joe Walsh , Timothy B. Schmit, Vince Gill and Deacon Frey.

The first batch of dates features a total of 13 stops between Sept. 7 and Nov. 17, all of which can be seen further down the page.

Reflecting on their massively successful 50-plus year career and the upcoming farewell jaunt, The Eagles released the following statement:

The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds. Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful. Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle. The official farewell tour is currently in the planning stages. We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round. So, scheduling information will be released as dates are set. The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand. But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on. With love and gratitude, The Eagles

Eagles Join Parade of Acts on Final Tours With a ‘Long Goodbye’

The band, which performed a “farewell” tour in 2003, will begin what’s billed as a last run of dates in September.

Five men stand in a line onstage in front of a drum set and other instruments with their arms around each other, as though saying goodbye at the end of a concert.

Eagles are touring for the last time. Again.

The band, whose country-tinged rock hits in the 1970s like “Hotel California” and “Life in the Fast Lane” made it one of the biggest-selling acts of all time, announced the Long Goodbye on Thursday, booked as the group’s final tour.

The tour — featuring the core Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey (whose father was Glenn Frey, an original Eagle) — is set to open at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7. That is the first of an initial batch of 13 dates mostly on the East Coast through Nov. 17, with Steely Dan as the opening act. In a statement, the Eagles floated the possibility of longer runs at each venue, saying they would “perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands.” The tour is expected to continue into 2025.

As longtime Eagles fans know, this is not the first time the band has signaled a sunset run. Back in 2003, it embarked on a tour called Farewell I . But there is good reason to believe they may be nearing the end. Glenn Frey, one of the group’s founding members, died in 2016 . Henley, the only member from its founding in 1971 who is still in the band, is 75; in an appearance before a Congressional committee in 2020 about copyright law, he said he was “in the final chapter of my career.” (Or maybe not. Bob Dylan, who is 82, is on a tour planned into 2024 , and the 86-year-old blues guitar hero Buddy Guy is on his own goodbye outing.)

Farewell tours have a way of winding on for years, and can be huge moneymakers. Kiss did its first in 2000 and has had more than a dozen tours since then; its End of the Road Tour started in 2019 and has dates booked through December. Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour began in 2018 and is set to finally conclude this weekend in Sweden, with at least $910 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.

Among others now on their self-described final tours are Aerosmith, Foreigner, the punk band NOFX and Dead & Company, featuring original members of the Grateful Dead with John Mayer.

The Eagles announce 2023 tour dates for their ‘The Long Goodbye’ farewell concerts

New york is the starting point for the iconic band, as it travels around venues to see fans for the final time..

“We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible before we call it quits,” was the message from the group. “Most importantly, we sincerely thank you for embracing this band and its music wholeheartedly.”

Where are The Eagles touring?

After more than half a century of making history in the music industry with songs like ‘Hotel California’, the rock band Eagles announced on Thursday a farewell tour that will kick off on September 7th at Madison Square Garden in New York. The group unveiled 13 initial dates and assured fans that they would “perform as many concerts in each market as demanded by their audience,” hinting that the tour will continue until 2025.

“In a miraculous 52-year journey, the Eagles have performed for all kinds of audiences around the world. Our long-lasting career has surpassed any of our wildest dreams. But everything has its time, and the moment has come for us to close the circle.”

Esteemed veterans of rock music like Steely Dan will join Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, son of one of the founding members Glenn Frey, for their final tour, aptly named ‘The Long Goodbye’, as stated in the announcement. The band, which has sold over 150 million records worldwide, boasts six Grammys, a Kennedy Center honorary award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in its first year of eligibility.

“At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to persevere for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music lives on and will continue to do so.”

The Eagles announce farewell tour: 'The time has come for us to close the circle'

eagles tour europe 2023

The Eagles will embark on their own long road out of Eden this fall for a farewell tour expected to last into 2025.

"We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful," the band said in a statement. "Everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."

Dubbed The Long Goodbye, the Eagles' final shows will kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Only the first handful of dates are being announced with Boston (Sept. 11), Denver (Oct. 5), Atlanta (Nov. 2) and St. Paul, Minnesota (Nov. 17) among them.

Presale tickets and VIP packages go on sale July 12; the general on-sale begins 10 a.m. local time July 14.

Also along for the jaunt will be Steely Dan, longtime contemporaries of the band who will commemorate their own five-decade-plus career.

In announcing their plans to end their "52-year odyssey," the Eagles – composed of Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit – noted they will play as many shows in each market as the audience demands, even if it requires returning to certain cities. The band will be joined onstage, as they have since the 2016 death of founding member Glenn Frey, by Vince Gill and Frey's son, Deacon.

Shortly after Frey's death at the age of 67, Henley indicated the Eagles would no longer tour. But following a pair of special classic-rock-focused festivals in 2017 – Classic West and Classic East, organized by their longtime manager Irving Azoff – they resumed regular live performances.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and six-time Grammy winners have played more than 1,000 concerts throughout their 50 years of touring. Their recently wrapped Hotel California Tour – named for their landmark 1976 album, which they played in its entirety with a backing orchestra – grossed about $250 million over 90 shows, according to music industry trade publication Pollstar.

In thanking fans for their years of support, the band concluded, "This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on."

Eagles Kick Off 2023 “Hotel California Tour” with a Few Surprises: Review, Photos, and Setlist

What came through was Eagles' dedication to their fans and each other

Eagles Kick Off 2023 “Hotel California Tour” with a Few Surprises: Review, Photos, and Setlist

With over five decades of collective and individual achievements among them,  Eagles have reached rarified air. Nearly all the original members of the country-rock group that are on speaking terms with founding member Don Henley are still alive, still in remarkably good health, and somehow looking far younger than their actual ages. Their music still sells at a comfortable clip as well as popping up with regularity on classic rock radio and streaming playlists named “OK, Boomer.”

In 2023, the Eagles are now more an institution than a musical group. And like most artists of their vintage, seeing the group live becomes a matter of both excitement and trepidation. How well or poorly can these men replicate the songs of their youth?

The answer to that question: impressively well. On Sunday night at Portland Oregon’s Moda Center, as the band opened up their 2023 North American tour (get tickets here ), they hit nearly every mark and still managed to toss a few surprises into their three-hour set.

First, though, Eagles needed to deal with the business at hand. As this run of shows is dubbed the 2023 “Hotel California Tour,” the band got underway by playing their 1976 album in full. This included a corny bit of stagecraft with a wizened looking gent opening the night by traipsing slowly across stage with a copy of Hotel California under his arm before laying the LP on a turntable and dropping the needle. (The side flip was handled later by a buxom blonde in a suggestive black dress.)

From there, the Eagles — these days consisting primarily of Henley, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, guitarist Joe Walsh, and fantasy camp lottery winner Vince Gill — steadily knocked out each song on the record in order, with every moment recreated with care and accuracy. That meant pulling in members of the Oregon Symphony and a choir from the University of Portland to augment the lusher moments of “Wasted Time,” “Pretty Maids All in a Row,” and “Last Resort.” The album’s status as an all-timer is secure.

After a short break, the band returned to play, as Henley put it, “everything we know.” It was in the second set that the pleasant surprises and light stumbles came into play. The biggest moment of the night came when Henley introduced guest Deacon Frey to the stage.

For a band that famously said they would only get back together when “hell freezes over”, the Eagles (not The Eagles, apparently) seem to tour so regularly that some form of major climatic event is clearly long overdue. The band are currently coming towards the end of a fairly lengthy jaunt around the UK and Ireland and, fresh from a four night stint at London’s O2, appeared on Monday evening on the stage of the relatively intimate 13,500 capacity First Direct Arena in Leeds. This tour is billed as the History Of The Eagles, and it pretty much lives up to that billing with a couple of exceptions, more of which later. The twenty-seven song set list is a good career retrospective, and the performance was as flawless as you might expect from such a skilled bunch of old pros. The evening started in a low key way with chief Eagles Don Henley and Glenn Frey ambling on stage, picking up a couple of acoustic guitars and making themselves comfortable on an equipment crate and stool before playing a lovely version of “Saturday Night” from 1973’s “Desperado” album. As the cheers died down they were joined on stage by Bernie Leadon who left the band in 1975, but happily is guesting throughout the current dates. Leadon’s familiar fair, curly locks may have long gone, but his voice is still sweet – as he evidenced on the second number “Train Leaves Here This Morning”- and his guitar playing remains classy. The early part of the first set suffered a little as video interview clips were shown which didn’t help the early rhythm of the show, but in hindsight these were probably deemed necessary to fill some time as additional band members wandered on stage, pieces of kit were introduced and the stage set grew. Bassist Timothy B Schmit joined Henley, Frey and Leadon for “Peaceful Easy Feeling” before Henley took a seat at a small drum kit stage left and the band started “Witchy Woman” while Joe Walsh wandered on unannounced from stage left. Four songs in and the five Eagles were finally present and correct. The remainder of the first set comprised “Doolin’Dalton/Desperado (Reprise)”, “Already Gone” (which featured superb lead playing from Leadon), “Best Of My Love”, “Lyin’ Eyes” (dedicated by Frey to his first wife, “plaintiff”), “One Of These Nights” and “Take It To The Limit”. During this first set Walsh looked rather subdued, perhaps as the songs predated his joining the band but he seemed content to remain low key on these tracks and leave the bulk of the playing to Frey, Leadon and additional guitarist Steuart Smith who throughout the evening contributed a significant amount of excellent guitar work, including a note perfect rendition of Don Felder’s parts of “Hotel California”, on a double neck guitar, naturally. Throughout the evening Walsh worked his way through a staggering array of guitars which pleased the axe-nerds in my area of the crowd as he seemingly changed guitar every song. The ebullient and wisecracking Frey – sample: “I’m from Detroit where mother is a half a word” – announced a short interval with the excuse that with such a lengthy set the band were required a bathroom break to get through it. The interval also saw the last of Leadon’s contributions until the encores. Post interval the journey through the band’s history continued with “Pretty Maids All In A Row”, Walsh’s first vocal lead of the evening. Walsh’s vocals may be fragile but they are endearing, and really it’s his guitar playing that people particularly want to hear and the last third of the set is where he comes to the fore, cutting loose on “Life’s Been Good”, the old James Gang song “Funk #49” and an encore of “Rocky Mountain Way” where the backdrop showed Joe dressed as superman flying across the Rockies as the real Joe dazzled us with his Talk Box and some gonzo riffing. Timothy B Schmit provided gorgeous vocals on “I Can’t Tell You Why” and “Love Will Keep Us Alive” but the vocal star of the Eagles remains Don Henley, possessor of one of the great American voices. His singing on such numbers as “The Best Of My Love”, “Desperado”, “One Of These Nights” and “The Long Run” were simply sublime. Before “In The City” Frey thanked the audience for their respect in remaining seated through the slower ballads but advised that they could now feel free to express themselves. Most didn’t however, and remained seated although the band didn’t seem to mind. The set list was pretty much perfect – although perhaps I’m alone in finding it strange that the “Long Road Out Of Eden” album was ignored entirely throughout the evening’s walk through the band’s history. Not their finest work, but I’d quite like to have heard “Waiting In The Weeds” for example at the expense of “Those Shoes”. The band was augmented by five additional musicians – they were excellent and deserve to be name checked so take a bow Steuart Smith, Scott Crago, Richard Davis, Will Hollis and Michael Thompson. When all is said and done, it has to be said that it was a damn good show. The sound was immaculate throughout with every individual instrument crystal clear. Some may criticise the slickness or predictability of the performance but with ticket prices so high the audience has a right to expect a professional show. The band’s request that audience members remain seated during much of the performance seemed to suit most people, and, it has to be said, their somewhat controversial and often ridiculed “strictly no photography” edict meant that you saw most of the show first hand rather than though the screen of the cell phone of the person in front of you, and this made a surprisingly welcome change. Including the interval and video segments the performance lasted around three hours, which contrasted significantly with Eric Clapton’s miserly eighty five minute performance at the same venue the night before, which still had people grumbling twenty four hours later. There was a sour note to the evening though, and something of a jarring omission. The tour is billed as the History Of The Eagles and while former member Randy Meisner was given a respectful shout out by Frey during the introduction to “Take It To The Limit”, Don Felder’s contribution to the band was studiously and, to my mind, rather pettily ignored altogether. His airbrushing from this history seems so Stalinist that it was almost a surprise to see him still appearing in the photos used in the programme and not as a silhouette. To me this reflected poorly on Frey and Henley, who had they name checked Felder, admitted that they had had their differences, but acknowledged that he too was part of their history they would have looked much more gracious, and bigger people.

I bought tickets to accompany the missus, she’s the Eagles fan, I’m more of a metal fan. However, The Eagles were fantastic, musically of course they were note perfect and vocally - apart from the bass player, his voice was a bit weak to be honest- spot on.

All the favourites from down the ages where there with the crowd singing along to almost every song, there was a lot of love in the crowd!

I particularly liked Joe Walsh’ performance, in the city and Rocky Mountain way we’re powerful and energetic.

The back catalogue is huge and every track a crowd pleaser, surprisingly Hotel California was not the show closer, brilliant as it was, that honour was left to Desperado, as with every track tonight it was delivered beautifully, would I recommend an Eagles gig to anyone unsure whether to chance it or not, absolutely.

I have always wanted to see The Eagles as a matter of fact it is a bucket list concert. My very first time going to the see them and I was not disappointed. Three and a half hours of pure music with a small break. I sang along with almost every song the band played. I have gotten used to politics in concerts this was a politics free zone. thank you so much for the break.

One gripe if I have one it seemed like the special guest was Joe Walsh, he played James Gang to Eagles songs. It is a small gripe because the guy is just amazing. One thing I noticed just from being old when the girl came out in the Hotel California set to flip the album she actually did not flip the the album. yes I am old. but it was a great effect.

I would go see them again in 1/2 a heart beat.

What. A. Show! I grew up listening to the Eagles, either on album, CD, or my dad playing his guitar. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to see them live with my dad and watch his enjoyment of seeing a band he’s loved for so long live. The staging and pace of the show was absolutely amazing and set the tone perfectly, and the graphics and lighting designers definitely did their best work. We were close to the stage and it was absolutely fascinating to watch all the cameras recording the event, as well. The band was exceptional but the team behind them is definitely to be commended for this one! I hope everyone who sees this tour has the same level of enjoyment my family and I did!

Experiencing the September, 2019 Eagles "Hotel California" concert at the MGM was a musical trip into near perfection.

The sound was very good even in our very expensive nosebleed seats.

The place was packed and the audience nonstop in its loud and persistent appreciation of all things Eagles, especially new members Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.

Longtime mega-talented members Henley, Walsh and Smith were true crowd pleasers, as they always are.

Having a full orchestra and an angelic choir from UNLV supporting the endeavor was at times ethereally mesmerizing to the point of enthrallment.

Once again the Eagles have lived up to their reputation as purveyors of musical excellence.

The Eagles were amazing. After the death of Glenn Frey I feared that my Eagles would be no more. But the addition of Deacon Frey & Vince Gill was a perfect fit. The fact that Deacon looks just like his dad from the early days & he has a great voice & handles the guitar like a pro. The Eagles did not disappoint any of their fans while playing 2 plus hours. Thank you for staying together & keeping the Music alive. Vince you did an amazing job filling some empty shoes, Don , Joe & Timothy & the rest of the band you are all true musicians. I grew up on your music & thankful you are continuing to tour!

Awesome night in the presence of pure music legends.

This was my 7th Eagles gig and 1st since the sad loss of Glen.

So it was a bit of a night of raw emotion but the tightness of the harmonies the exceptional vocal ability of all of the band including Vince gill stu Smith and doing his father proud Deavon Frey made it my most favourite Eagles gig.

And of course the madman who is Joe Walsh was again in cracking form with Don holding it all together along with Timothy.

Really was a night to remember 2 and a half hours of pure class you could reach out and touch the love in the room.

Magnificent opening with Seven Bridge Road that you know instantly that it will be a magnificent concert.

With an emotional contribution by Deacon Frey as a perfect replacement for his fatger, great voicr, great performsnce. Vince Gill is a good addition to the voices of the Eagles.

Joe Walsh is taking just enough space with some of his solo work, and shows that the Eagles bring more than just country rock.

A feast of almost all their hits, with Hotel California and Desperado as encores. Eagles as you expect to be.

We went home very pleased that we were part of this.

Outstanding show! They came on early so that they could do a 2 and a half hour long set. Plenty of the favourites from over the years. Glenn Frey's son was excellent as were the sets.

Not even the drunk old men behind me (that were under some illusion that not only could they sing but they could also mimic the sound of a guitar) were able to spoil the evening.

Sheryl Crow (the Support Act!) was also on top form.

Eagles NFL Draft big board: Potential targets on all three days

UCLA linebacker Laiatu Latu (15) watches the ball during the second half of an NCAA college football game against Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz., Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. UCLA won 50-36. (AP Photo/Ross D. Franklin)

When an NFL team’s personnel department completes its draft board, the general manager obviously hopes for best-case scenarios. But when the Philadelphia Eagles ran through their decision-making drills ahead of the upcoming draft, Howie Roseman said they mostly prepared for worst-case scenarios. The longtime executive said, “Even in our worst-case situation” the Eagles will “be able to improve this football team” with a draft arsenal that includes the No. 22, 50 and 53 overall picks.

The Eagles don’t need to desperately fill any one position. They’re a team that believes in building through the draft by selecting the best available prospects. But that philosophy hasn’t (and won’t) restrict Roseman from being aggressive. He’s executed 13 draft-day trades in the last three years.

Such consistent volatility makes the location of Philadelphia’s eight draft picks a mere starting point. A deep draft board becomes all the more necessary. Below is a look at some players who could interest the Eagles on each day.

Eagles NFL Draft 2024 guide: Picks, predictions and key needs

(The Eagles have one pick in the first round at No. 22)

Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa:  The Eagles want to renew a tough identity on defense, and DeJean is one of the best tackling defensive backs in the draft. He’s a ball hawk with seven interceptions and three pick-sixes whose versatility as an outside cornerback or safety makes him a desirable fit for Vic Fangio’s defense. DeJean also returned a punt for a touchdown in his final college season.

Amarius Mims, OT, Georgia:  Massive (6-foot-7, 340 pounds) but inexperienced (eight starts at right tackle in three college seasons). Mims is an ideal applicant for “Stoutland University.” Esteemed offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland has a history of developing behemoths into battle-ready starters. Jordan Mailata (6-8, 365 pounds) was a 2018 seventh-round pick and just signed his second contract extension . The Eagles could secure a successor for Lane Johnson by drafting one of the most physically gifted athletes of this class.

Tyler Guyton, OT, Oklahoma:  Another project prospect. Guyton was a basketball kid who didn’t play football until his senior year of high school. He’s also a former TCU tight end who switched to offensive tackle upon transferring to Oklahoma. He still possesses phenomenal footwork and uncanny mobility, which gives him excellent range to duel pass rushers.

Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama:  The “koolest” nickname in the draft. McKinstry’s grandmother gave him the moniker because he had a “Kool-Aid smile” from birth. He also secured a name, image and likeness deal with the Kool-Aid drink brand while in college. He’s a two-time All-American whose length (75 7/8-inch wingspan) and football IQ make up for his lack of high-level speed.

Chop Robinson, Edge, Penn State:  The Eagles love stockpiling edge rushers, and Robinson would supply them with yet another explosive pass rusher whose bursting speed (4.48 40-yard dash) and lean frame (6-3, 254 pounds) make him a weapon when aligned along the wide ends of the defensive line. A Maryland transfer who totaled just 11 1/2 sacks in three seasons, Robinson might be a more reasonable selection in a trade-back scenario.

eagles tour europe 2023

Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson:  Despite lacking the reputation for physicality the Eagles prioritize, Wiggins is a pest along the perimeter who had three interceptions and two pick sixes in his final two seasons. He’ll need to improve as a run defender and was often flagged for pass interference. But he twice led the team in passes defended and chased down two forced fumbles that saved touchdowns last season.

Laiatu Latu, Edge, UCLA:  Latu spent 2 1/2 years away from football after suffering a neck injury in 2020, but that shouldn’t force him out of the first round after totaling 23 1/2 sacks in two seasons at UCLA. A Washington transfer, the 6-4, 259-pound Latu often wins as a pass rusher due to excellent technique. His proven production (34 tackles for loss in two seasons) should give him the edge over Robinson if the Eagles get to choose between the two at No. 22.

Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama:  A two-time All-American who led the SEC in passes defended (17) and tied for the conference lead in interceptions (five) in 2023, Arnold is arguably the top cornerback in the draft. If the Eagles want to secure Arnold, who could be their No. 1 corner of the future, they’ll need to pony up a sizable trade package. It’s worth wondering if Roseman would ever execute such a deal. The Eagles haven’t drafted a cornerback in the first round since Lito Sheppard in 2002.

Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo: Mitchell is another two-time All-American who would require the Eagles to trade up. A three-year starter at Toledo, Mitchell recorded 37 passes defended and six interceptions in his final two seasons. An older prospect who’ll turn 23 in July, the 6 feet, 195-pound Mitchell projects as an outside corner after spending minimal time in the slot.

Troy Fautanu, G/T, Washington:  Fautanu started 29 games at left tackle at Washington and two at left guard, but his sturdy frame (6-3, 317 pounds) and proficiency as a run blocker and pulling lineman make him an ideal fit along the interior. The Eagles need to replace Cam Jurgens at right guard. Fautanu has the skill and the power to solidify himself as a starter if they choose to trade up for him.

Taliese Fuaga, G/T, Oregon State:  It may be too pricey to trade up for Fautanu. If Fuaga falls closer within range, he’s another prospect who could temporarily fill in at right guard with the possibility of later moving to tackle. A 6-5, 324-pound force,  The Athletic ’s Dane Brugler called Fuaga “arguably the top run-blocking lineman in the draft.”

(The Eagles have two picks in the second round at Nos. 50 and 53, and no picks in the third round)

Marshawn Kneeland, Edge, Western Michigan:  A three-year starter, Kneeland collected 13 career sacks. He never reached five sacks in any season. Still, his enviable size (6-3, 267 pounds) and explosive pass-rush movements are compelling. The Eagles still need depth at edge rusher, and Kneeland projects upside if given time to develop.

Cooper Beebe, OT/G, Kansas State:  A two-time All-American who allowed just one sack over his final 41 collegiate games, Beebe would be an ideal addition if the Eagles don’t land an offensive lineman in the first round. It would likely take a trade-up from No. 50 to nab Beebe, who played left guard, left tackle and right tackle and won Big 12 Offensive Lineman of the Year in back-to-back seasons.

Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas:  The fastest player in the draft, Worthy set the NFL combine record with a 4.21-second 40-yard dash. The 5-11, 165-pound receiver would supply the Eagles with an explosive No. 3 option alongside A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith . Worthy also led the FBS in punt return yards (371) in 2023. He’ll have to prove he can be more consistent after dropping 15 passes in three seasons.

Roger Rosengarten, OT, Washington:  A durable lineman who started all 28 games for Washington the last two seasons, Rosengarten has quick feet to combat elite pass rushers and attack defenders on the second level or the perimeter. All of his starts were at right tackle, but Rosengarten flipped to that side to protect lefty quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s blindside.

Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky: Phillips was a versatile defensive back who played outside corner in a zone-heavy scheme while doubling as Kentucky’s primary slot corner. He’s a physical competitor who has great footwork and acceleration, but he did not record an interception, forced fumble or sack in 29 games.

Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE, Texas:  The Eagles don’t have many proven options behind starting tight end Dallas Goedert , and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore frequently deploys 12 personnel packages. Sanders lacks reliability as an in-line blocker, but his upside as a dynamic receiving threat (he had 12 catches of 20-plus yards in 2023) makes him an intriguing prospect.

go-deeper

2024 NFL analytics mock draft: Using projection model, consensus big board to make best picks

Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan:  The 5-10, 185-pound Wilson led the Wolverines with 789 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns as the primary slot receiver on their national championship team. The Eagles don’t have an established No. 3 receiver, but it’s worth wondering if Wilson’s lack of special teams experience in college makes him less of a fit.

Javon Bullard, S, Georgia:  The defensive MVP of the 2022 national title game, Bullard possesses the pedigree Roseman covets. The Eagles love Georgia players, and Bullard is a two-year starter whose quickness and closing speed as an adept open-field tackler would adequately bolster a room of safeties that could use a specified nickelback.

Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M:  Cooper is an All-American who led a top-10 defense in tackles (83), tackles for loss (17), sacks (eight) and forced fumbles (two) last season. The 6-2, 230-pound prospect played “Will” linebacker in a 4-2-5 scheme. He’ll need to develop discipline as a defender who overran plays, but his range in coverage could equip the Eagles with the sort of all-around linebacker they were missing in 2023.

Trevin Wallace, LB, Kentucky: Wallace is another speedy “Will” linebacker who snagged three interceptions in his final two seasons. At 6-1, 237 pounds, he matches ideal size with solid discipline.

Marshawn Lloyd, RB, USC:  Lloyd is a tough and determined player who rebounded from a torn ACL during his freshman season at South Carolina, transferred to USC as a senior and averaged 7.1 yards per carry and 17.8 yards per catch in his final season. He’ll need to become more decisive and run downhill more frequently. The Eagles prefer running backs who create yards after contact.

Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest:  A four-year starter, Carson didn’t make many mistakes as a perimeter cornerback in a multiple-coverage scheme. But he didn’t take many risks, either. Carson didn’t record an interception in either of his two final seasons. Injuries were also an issue. He missed 11 games due to various setbacks that included hamstring and foot injuries.

Brandon Coleman, OT, TCU:  A military kid who first played basketball for a travel team while growing up in Berlin, Coleman moved to Denton, Texas, before his junior year of high school and joined the football team. He played two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College, transferred to TCU, then developed into a three-year starter at left tackle.

Eagles 7-round mock draft: Round 2 trade-up for a speedy receiver

(The Eagles have one pick in the fourth round at No. 120, three picks in the fifth round at Nos. 161, 171 and 172, one pick in the sixth round at No. 210 and no picks in the seventh round)

Brenden Rice, WR, USC:  The son of NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, the 6-2, 208-pound Brenden Rice caught 12 touchdown passes in his final season with the Trojans. Like his father, Rice is an efficient and skillful route runner, but he’ll need to improve his ability to separate from defenders.

Christian Mahogany, G, Boston College: The 6-3, 314-pound lineman missed the 2022 season after tearing his right ACL while at home in the offseason. He thrived in a gap-scheme run system, and, per Brugler, “plays like a bouncer outside of a club, looking to bash heads with power and forceful hands.”

Zak Zinter, G, Michigan:  Zinter missed the entire draft process after breaking his leg against Ohio State. But the four-year starter was still named first-team All-Big Ten in his final season, as he didn’t surrender any sacks and was never flagged in 12 games. He’d likely be drafted higher if it weren’t for the injury, and he could also supply an answer for the Eagles along the interior after starting 42 games at right guard.

Xavier Thomas, Edge, Clemson:  After battling injuries, COVID-19 and setbacks across six seasons, Thomas only managed to total 18 sacks in his career at Clemson. He’s another slender pass rusher (6-2, 244 pounds) who wins on speed and explosivity, but he’ll need to develop as a defender who can create separation once engaged with blockers.

Johnny Wilson, WR, Florida State:  An Arizona State transfer, Wilson at last capitalized on a 6-6, 231-pound frame that helped him log 1,514 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his final two seasons at Florida State. Brugler: “He doesn’t always play up to his frame and currently lacks consistent focus and route precision for what the NFL requires.”

Jalyx Hunt, Edge, Houston Christian:  The Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, Hunt transferred to Houston Christian after spending three seasons at Cornell. A two-year starter for the Huskies, the 6-3, 252-pound outside linebacker logged the second-most sacks in school history (20 1/2).

Decamerion Richardson, CB, Mississippi State:  Richardson is a physical defender who led all SEC cornerbacks in tackles in both his junior and senior seasons. Although he never recorded an interception in college, he led the Bulldogs with seven passes defended in 2023. That lack of big-play production is troubling, but Richardson possesses the frame (6-2, 188 pounds) and speed (4.34 40-yard dash) to suggest significant upside as a Day 3 option.

M.J. Devonshire, CB, Pitt:  An Aliquippa, Pa., native, Devonshire was a two-year starter at Pittsburgh who played outside cornerback in a zone-heavy scheme. He spent his first two years at Kentucky, entered the transfer portal after the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, then totaled seven interceptions in his final two seasons with the Panthers.

eagles tour europe 2023

Gottlieb Ayedze, G, Maryland: Ayedze, a transfer from Division II Frostburg State, draws comparisons to the Australian-born, rugby-playing Mailata. Ayedze was born in the United States before relocating with his parents to Togo when he was 5. When he was 15, he returned to live with his uncle in Maryland. Ayedze first began playing football as a senior in high school.

Adisa Isaac, Edge, Penn State: Isaac totaled 11 1/2 sacks and 27 tackles for loss in his final 26 games at Penn State after returning from a torn left Achilles. A team captain who led the Nittany Lions in tackles for loss (16) and sacks (7 1/2) as a senior, Isaac has enviable size (6-4, 247 pounds) and traits that suggest he may develop into a starter in the right system.

Jarrian Jones, CB, Florida State:  Jones was most successful as a nickel safety for the Seminoles in 2023, when he allowed just 16 catches and logged three interceptions. Jones showcased excellent speed at the combine (4.38 40-yard dash) but his lack of length, strength and durability (various injuries in five seasons) raise questions regarding his ceiling.

Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M:  A five-year starter for the Aggies, Smith lined up on the outside, in the slot and in the backfield in offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino’s scheme. He led the team in receiving as a fifth-year senior and showed promise as a special teams asset with an 82-yard punt return touchdown.

Travis Glover Jr., OT, Georgia State: Glover offers versatility having played 35 games at left tackle, 18 at right tackle and four at left guard. Brugler: “Glover isn’t an explosive athlete, and achieving leverage will be a constant battle for him, but he also isn’t a slug and looks for ways to unleash his power in all areas. Given his experience at both tackle and guard, he can provide depth at multiple spots on a team’s depth chart.”

DETROIT (AP) — The NFL draft has taken the show on the road for a decade, giving cities around the country a chance to be in the spotlight.

Detroit is on the clock.

The Motor City, which was once one of the nation’s largest and most powerful cities, has bounced back from filing for bankruptcy in 2013.

Fans driving and flying into town from the league’s other 31 teams will see signs of progress from the symbolic to the significant.

AP AUDIO: NFL draft has been on tour for a decade and the next stop is Detroit, giving it a shot in spotlight.

AP correspondent Mike Hempen reports.

DETROIT is spelled out, each letter standing 10 feet off an embankment alongside a freeway between the airport and downtown, in an art installation that made its debut earlier this month.

A few miles away, the long-abandoned Michigan Central Station has undergone a renovation funded by Ford Motor Co. to transform the 18-story, 113-year-old train depot from an eyesore into a gem.

In the heart of downtown, where the NFL draft will begin Thursday night, a 685-foot-high tower represents the largest construction project in the city in more than a half-century as it rises from the site of the former Hudson’s department store.

With more than 50 million viewers and an expected 400,000 visitors over the three-day event, there will be a chance to change the conversation about the city.

Lions President Rod Wood pitched the city as a draft destination in 2016 and teamed up with the Detroit Sports Commission a year later to submit the formal bid to land the NFL’s annual event that gives fans from each team a jolt of hope.

The Lions and the local sports commission also partnered with Visit Detroit, Dan Gilbert’s real-estate company, Bedrock, and the Detroit Police Department to make the most of the opportunity.

“The draft here in Detroit is going to make a big step for us in making that old image go away and people having the new image of the city,” Gilbert told The Associated Press. “We’re going to be able to showcase Detroit like never before.”

That’s part of the NFL’s plan, and it has led to 20-plus cities vying for a future draft. Green Bay will host next year’s draft.

After the league had its last draft in New York a decade ago, it envisioned giving cities — particularly those in colder climates that may not host a future Super Bowl — a chance to have a signature event that would have a lot of benefits, including an economic impact.

Chicago was the first tour stop in 2015 and it generated $81 million for the community. Kansas City had it last year, sparking $164 million in economic impact.

“Another opportunity for our franchise and our city and just for the world to kind of migrate to downtown Detroit,” said Lions general manager Brad Holmes, who has turned around a franchise that is coming off its best season since winning the 1957 NFL title. “I expect it to be pretty packed. I’m excited for all the businesses.”

Detroit’s draft is expected to bring in at least $160 million, giving small businesses a boost from fans flocking in and around Campus Martius Park.

One longtime business is looking forward to more than just an increase in foot traffic.

Lauren Stovall, the business lead at Hot Sam’s, and two others representing the 103-year-old men’s clothing store and tailor shop will be onstage during the draft’s final day Saturday.

“There’s a perception of Detroit that comes from people who actually have not been here,” Stovall said. “What’s so great is when people actually come to Detroit, they are blown away, because Detroit is not what they might have thought.”

There are new hotels, high-end and trendy restaurants and bars along with a skyscraper nearing completion. Challenges continue to exist in some neighborhoods as the city continues to demolish abandoned houses, including more than 25,000 over the past 10 years. Crime has been trending down and homicides are the lowest since 1966.

“We’re not going to lose our balance patting ourselves on the back,” Detroit Police Chief James White said.

Hundreds of uniformed and plainclothes officers from Detroit, county, state and federal agencies will patrol the greater downtown area. White said all the city’s police officers will work shifts during the draft, some downtown, others in neighborhoods.

Bomb-sniffing dogs and other K-9 teams will be flown into Detroit by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which also has pledged to have its tactical team on standby. Intelligence agents are monitoring social media for any threats.

Mayor Mike Duggan devoted some time during his annual State of the City address Wednesday to talk about the importance of the draft turning a lot of eyes on Detroit. Visitors for the draft are “going to see a very different city,” the mayor promised.

“We have a chance to reintroduce Detroit to America,” Duggan said.

Associated Press writers Corey Williams and Mike Householder contributed to this report.
