Celebrating american imagination and industry.

Check out Oklahoma food factories

Bedre Fine Chocolate factory in Pauls Valley.

Border to border, Oklahoma is full of delectable restaurants that are worth a drive, but there are also several food factory tours offering a different kind of culinary fun. From cheese to chocolate, Oklahoma has some of the tastiest factory tours around.

Companies across the state have opened their factories so the public can get a behind-the-scenes look at how some of America's favorite foods are made, packaged and shipped around the world. These factory tours are fun for all ages and often include sample tastings.

In Pauls Valley, the Bedre chocolate factory is a must-see. Bedre is an American Indian company that produces fine chocolate in the heart of Oklahoma. The Chickasaw Nation owns and operates this 18,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that offers temptations to satisfy any sweet tooth, including gourmet chocolates, gift baskets and other traditional candies. While on site, guests may step into the viewing gallery and see chocolate being made before their eyes. Chocolate is produced and packaged from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Also in Pauls Valley, Field's Pies offers a factory tour that tells an interesting story. Field's pecan pies originated when two brothers persuaded their wives to cook pastries for their restaurant customers. The same recipes Mrs. Hazelle Field used in 1925 are still used today. The Field's Pies factory tour shows how this pure and natural dessert is created without preservatives or additives.

What goes better with pie than some ice cream? The Braum's Family Farm is a private working family farm located on more than 10,000 acres in Tuttle. The Braum's Family Farm is home to one of the largest dairy operations in the world and is a showplace in the industry. Every day, Braum's milks 10,000 Holstein cows. Located on the farm is Braum's state-of-the-art processing plant, dairy herd, milk barn and bakery. Tours last about 1½ hours and are free of charge, although reservations are required.

Another family-operated dairy company is open for tours in Kingfisher. The Christian Cheese Factory makes 23 varieties of cheese including yellow, white and Colby cheddars, white cheddar jalapeno and yellow cheddar jalapeno. It also makes yellow and white cheddar curds, white jalapeno cheddar curds and 12 specialty cheeses. As with most destinations, it's good to call ahead to schedule a reservation.

Visiting Braum’s Family Farm

The Braum’s Family Farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma is a unique and fascinating destination for visitors interested in agriculture and the dairy industry. The farm, which is only about a 45 minute drive from Oklahoma City, has been in operation for over 80 years.

It’s home to a variety of animals and offers visitors a chance to experience the day-to-day operations of a working dairy farm. Visitors can explore the farm’s pastures, barns, and milking facilities, learn about the processes of milk production, and meet the cows, pigs, chickens and other animals that call the farm home.

Be sure you watch the Braum’s Tour video below before you go!

Humble Beginnings

Braum shifted his focus to retail ice cream stores in Kansas called “Peter Pan” after completing college. He eventually sold the business to another entrepreneur in 1952. In 1968, Bill and Mary Braum initiated a retail venture in Oklahoma named Braum’s Ice Cream & Dairy Stores. Within the first year of operation, 24 outlets were launched across the state.

With the growing business from Emporia, Kansas, they moved to Tuttle, Oklahoma. The company now owns over 40,000 acres of land overall (62 square miles) and is considered one of the finest ranching and farming areas in the US. Each aspect of the Braum operation is important and has its own purpose.

This includes housing the cows, growing hay to feed them, and other related practices. Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores have successfully spread to five states – Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Arkansas – with an impressive total of 280 locations across the region.

A Huge Operation

Braum’s Family Farm is a 10,000-acre private farm situated in Tuttle, Oklahoma about 45 minutes away from Oklahoma City. It is an operating farm that provides fresh produce to the local area.

Braum’s is one of the largest dairy farms globally and produces its own milk from 1,600 cows per hour. The farm has equipped itself with a sophisticated processing plant, dairy herd, milk barn and bakery to ensure complete dairy-based product production.

To further explore the family farm, guests can do tours on the processing plant, watch videos, and receive a free sample ice cream.

Crafting quality products requires precise effort and dedication, whether it be ice cream, milk or bakery items. Each item is made with the utmost care and attention to ensure the highest quality possible.

The tour is equally enjoyable for both children and adults. Embark on a fun and educational tour of the Braum’s Ice Cream & Dairy Store factories, where you can observe the production process and get to experience tantalizing aromas from the bakery! At the end of your journey, you will also be rewarded with a delightful treat.

Every Monday through Friday, visitors can explore the Braum’s farm and factory with tours starting at 9 AM or 11 AM. Tours typically take around two hours and come at no cost. It is however necessary to make a reservation before joining a tour since space is still limited.

it's a factory tour

You walk into the front building. This is where the tour begins and the country store is located. We asked the ladies in the store if we could get a tour. The website asks that you call ahead to make a reservation. We were on our way out of town and forgot to call ahead. They were super nice and turned out they had 15min. before the next tour. ($3 a person, $2 seniors and children up to 14) Our tour guide, Jill, was very informative and friendly. She says that we can take pictures of each other but ask that we don't take pictures of the production area. The factory has huge viewing windows and is very clean. After explaining the process, you are ushered into a theater were they show a short video on the history of the company. Then, the tour ends back inside the country store....where each guest gets their sample of the creamiest ice cream ever in my opinion. Jill told us that their #1 seller is Homemade Vanilla. There were eight choices for the sample. For ice cream that's been setting in a freezer for a while, it tasted like it came right out of the funnel that put it in the container. The sample is two generous scoops. Seeing the process live-in action, gave me a lot more respect for all the hard work that goes in to making the ice cream and made that sample taste that much sweeter. They have items and t-shirts for sale in the country store with their logo. There was a sign in the theater that read, "Our ice cream is so good, you'll wanna eat the carton". So true........they don't sell Blue Bell ice cream in our state. ..Sad face.

Blue Bells tour and guest facilities was excellent, very good for children or grandchildren, generous on their "samples" of ice cream and they have a very good tour!

Nice place to take the kids on a small tour of how they make the ice cream. Grandkids were so fascinated at how it all worked.

we took a group of homeschool children . it was very intresting . the kids really liked the free icecream at the end

Took a tour of the plant with a boy scout troop several years back. It was interesting and mighty cold, even in the summer. I limit my visits to the freezer section of my local grocer now. I'm still a fan. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. I guess it still holds true.

This was a great factory tour. There were only a few cars in the lot when we arrived at about 10 am. The campus and grounds were very clean , clearly marked and very inviting. The walking tour through the plant lasted about 25-30 min. Our guide Zach was very knowledgable and knew the answers to any questions the guests had. At the end of the tour there was a big scoop of any kind of blue bell you wanted. Well worth a stop in Brenham.
