Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Featherington, Luke Newton as Colin Bridgerton in episode 302 of Bridgerton

Dearest gentle readers, Penelope and Colin enter into a unique agreement in the Bridgerton season 3 trailer.

The characters, portrayed by Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton, join forces to help Penelope find a husband this season, as she is eager to move out of her home but struggles to stand out in the ‘ton despite taking on a whole new wardrobe.

As Penelope and Colin begin working together to help her find a husband, the pair find that it may be harder than it seemed at first.

“I would not be angry if you found me a lost cause,” Penelope tells Colin, as he responds, “You must not say such things. You are Peneloipe Featherington. Do not forget that.”

Over the course of the two-minute, 30-second trailer, audiences get a glimpse at Lord Debling’s (Sam Phillips) courtship of Penelope as the two embark on a journey that draws them to each other. But it isn’t long before Colin begins to realize that perhaps there’s something more between him and his longtime friend.

“Mother, do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?” Colin asks his mother, Lady Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell). She responds, “It is rare, but you must follow your heart.”

As the trailer comes to a close, Andrews’ Whistledown raises two of the biggest questions of the season: “What is the primary force that guides us along our paths? Is it our minds or our hearts?”

Unlike the previous two seasons, which focused on the same Bridgerton siblings as the first two novels in Julia Quinn’s novel series did, the third season puts Penelope and Colin at the forefront instead of Benedict (Luke Thompson).

Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Claudia Jessie, Jessica Madsen, Golda Rosheuvel, Hugh Sachs, Adjoa Andoh, Daniel Francis, Hannah Dodd, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Polly Walker, Martins Imhangbe and Emma Naomi round out the cast.

Utopia Acquires Worldwide Rights to Highly Anticipated Surf Film ‘Trilogy: New Wave,’ Trailer Debuts (EXCLUSIVE)

Trilogy: New Wave

New York- and Los Angeles-based film distribution and sales company Utopia has acquired the worldwide rights to “Trilogy: New Wave,” one of the most highly-anticipated surf films of the decade. The film is directed by Aether Film’s Andrew Mackenzie .

“Trilogy: New Wave” stars Griffin Colapinto , Ethan Ewing and Seth Moniz on a dream quest across the globe for pristine waves in Indonesia, Peru, South Africa and Tahiti. As the pressures of head-to-head competition for a championship crown weigh heavy, the three put fierce rivalries aside and discover how the power of friendship can unlock even greater success in and out of the water.

Currently on Tour in Australia, the film will screen at festivals and special events through the spring and summer. It will release globally across digital platforms in September.

The film’s stars are three of surfing’s top performers on Tour and film. Colapinto, from Southern California, is presently ranked number one on the World Surf League Championship Tour with Australia’s Ewing number two, following MEO Rip Curl Portugal where the two competed against each other in the final and Colapinto’s subsequent second place finish at Bells Beach. Ewing and Colapinto have also secured spots to compete at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games.

“’Trilogy: New Wave’ is really a coming-of-age story, as we see the guys mature into the top surf talent in the world. Their genuine friendship helps to unlock success, but don’t be fooled, there’s also a real rivalry between the three,” Mackenzie said. “As they say ‘iron sharpens iron,’ and you see the guys push each other to new heights with each surfing longer, and progressing more quickly than they would alone.”

Mackenzie and Aether Films positioned up to six cameras with a wide variety of angles on a single scene including an FPV racing drone angle that is new to surfing. This allowed Mackenzie to take more chances, cut some camera angles closer and create a completely fresh take on how the world sees surfing.

The first surf film in Utopia’s roster, “Trilogy: New Wave” follows Utopia’s successful releases of sports-centered stories including “Facing Nolan,” “Rowdy” and “Day by Day.”

More than a decade has passed since the original “Trilogy” (2007), a classic surf film directed by Taylor Steele, was released. Since then, surfing has transitioned from countercultural pastime to mainstream sport. “Trilogy: New Wave” examines this evolution with a new lens, offering an unexpected perspective of surfing’s present.

The film was produced by Mackenzie’s Aether Films, a production TV and broadcast commercial company. Some of Aether’s clients include Toyota, Adidas, Google, Uber and Oakley.

Joe Satriani on lifelong friendship with Steve Vai, learning to play guitar like Eddie Van Halen

Joe Satriani is the epitome of the modern guitar hero.

Raised on Long Island but on the West Coast since the late ‘70s, he quit football to play guitar, spending time as both student and teacher -- some of his famous pupils included his current tour mate Steve Vai, Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, Counting Crowes’ David Bryson and others. Since 1986 Satriani, 67, has released 18 albums of his own, has scored 15 Grammy Award nominations and has played in Chickenfoot, the Greg Kihn Band and Deep Purple. He also launched the G3 guitar tour back in 1996.

Help! My Sister Thinks Her Lump of a Son Should Come Live With Me.

She wants a change of scenery to “inspire” him out of his rut..

Dear Prudence is Slate’s advice column. Submit questions here.

Dear Prudence,

I comfortably live in an area with a very high cost of living. My older two nieces came to stay with me after college while they were trying to figure out their places in the world. Their “rent” went into savings so they could start out with a bit of a nest egg. They were expected to clean and to pay for their own food. We didn’t have a problem, and they both went on to have successful adult lives.

Their brother is another story altogether. He basically coasted through high school and then failed to do anything. No job, no interest in education, no interest in anything but video games—he hasn’t even gotten his driver’s license yet. He is 22. My sister has babied him his entire life. My brother-in-law is at the end of his rope and demanding something be done. My sister thinks that sending him my way for a change of scenery will inspire him. She says it is only “fair” that I help my nephew, as I did my nieces.

My sympathy has limits. My nephew refuses to see a doctor so any root cause like depression is not being addressed. My sister has offered to pay me until her son gets settled, but I am not willing to live with a lump lounging in my living room playing video games night and day. How do I have this discussion with my sister?

—Not a Launch Pad

Dear Launch Pad,

Your sister’s belief that you are obligated, in some way, to put up her children in the big city is ridiculous, of course. You are not! If you do not want to host a third of your sister’s children, rent-free, for some indeterminate amount of time, that is totally fine.

But I would not expect your sister to respond well if your stated reason is that her daughters were cool but her son sucks. And if you really enjoyed the company of those young women, and were pleased to be part of their young-adult lives, I’d remind you that you don’t really know that much about their younger brother or what he would actually be like as a houseguest. Maybe he would be a lump. Or maybe he would in fact find the city (I’m assuming) a welcome change in his life. There’s every chance you might similarly enjoy building a relationship with this young man and helping him along his way.

Or maybe you are not interested in the hassle! If that’s the case, a simple “I’m so sorry, but I just can’t host your son right now” will suffice.

—Prudie, hospitably

How to Get Advice

Submit your questions anonymously here . (Questions may be edited for publication.) And for questions on parenting, kids, or family life, try Care and Feeding !

My husband and I were lucky enough to buy a home last year. It’s a neighborhood on small lots, and most people who live there are retirees. Our next-door neighbor “George” is a sweet guy in his late 70s with whom we have a mild acquaintanceship. Last year, I watched him either struggle with his push mower or leave his grass long, such that he became the subject of Nextdoor neighborhood complaints about it. It would be easy for me to mow his lawn when I do mine, but I know he’s touchy about his independence. His church sent someone to shovel his driveway when we had a snowstorm, and he was insulted, but he needed it. Spring is coming: How do I ask if I can do this for him?

—Trying to Be a Good Neighbor

Dear Good Neighbor,

How do you ask? You ask! If he gets touchy about it, oh well. You don’t have to be like, “I see that you’ve got one foot in the grave, want me to mow your lawn for you?” Try mentioning that you enjoy mowing the lawn , and you’d be happy to do his while you’re out if he is interested. Or you could observe that he appears to be shoving around a mower from the 15 th century, and offer to share your electric mower with him. (I hope it’s electric—surely you are not using a gas-powered mower on your teensy lawn!)

But maybe he doesn’t want your help—maybe he’ll even be briefly annoyed—and that’s fine too. If his lawn doesn’t get mowed, who cares? Do not base your opinion of your neighbor on what the busybodies on Nextdoor think! Some might even suggest that a lawn in a state of disarray is a badge of honor , denoting a homeowner’s appreciation for the humble pollinators.

Finally, you’ll find that all your encounters with this neighbor will feel less fraught if you make a few overtures to transform this mild acquaintanceship into real friendship, or at least to actual neighborliness. Invite the guy over for a beer! Ask him for a favor! You’ll find it really pays off to have a neighbor who knows and cares about you, and it will make the next decade or two a little easier if you build a base of trust upon which future interactions might rest.

—Prudie, cuttingly

I have known Carole (not her real name) since I studied in France about 55 years ago. We have kept in touch, and during two of our (my husband and myself) visits to France, we went to the city she lives in for about four days, and although she invited us to stay at her apartment, we stayed at a hotel. She and her husband were very hospitable and took us on excursions in the area, had us to dinner, etc.

In 2017, she wrote and said she wanted to bring her granddaughter to New York in 2018 (we live in Montreal, Canada). To make a very long, involved story short, she finagled a 10-night visit to Montreal staying at our house most of the time and with four of those nights in New York (my husband being the driver and both of us being the tour guides). The little girl was almost 11 years old and very well-behaved, but Carole was like the Energizer Bunny. She took a thousand photos, and when she couldn’t get online in the hotel, she went crazy. Needless to say, when their trip was over, it took me a week to recuperate!

Well, a few months ago, Carole said she was planning a trip to New York in the summer of 2024, this time with her daughter and her daughter’s two kids (one of them being the granddaughter who was with her in 2018). Knowing how things turned out in 2018, I know this means she wants to be invited to Montreal. Meanwhile, this past year, my husband has had to deal with a very ill sister who lives out of town and had to first be transferred to an assisted living place, and now to a long-care home. He is totally exhausted by all that has happened, and he is the sole caregiver, so he has to visit regularly.  I related all of this to Carole, and she seems to have given up talking about going to New York (which means Montreal as well) this summer. However, I bet she will start again next year.

Let me add that in 2019, we moved into a condo and only have one uncomfortable hide-a-bed for guests, and there would be four people who want to come. I wish there were a polite way I could say, “Book a hotel in Montreal, and we will try to show you the sights on some of the days you are here.” Meanwhile, we do not feel like driving them to New York and walking all over in the July heat. If she tries again to be invited, how do I get out of it without being unkind? Remember, she will not start by saying she wants to come to Montreal.

—Not a Good Hostess

Dear Hostess,

I must confess I do not understand anything about this letter. Do people from Francophone countries possess some outlandish notion of hospitality that requires you not only put up a visitor for ten days but also drive them about six hours to a completely different country? There is a polite way to say “Book a hotel in Montreal, and we will try to show you the sights on some of the days you are here”—it consists of those exact words, preceded by the word “please.”

Honestly: You are in your seventies. You live in a one-bedroom condo. No reasonable person would expect you to put their family up for a long visit, nor would they expect you to accompany them to New York. If for some reason Carole does expect this—I admit this is possible, due to the fact that you did all this on her previous visit—politely tell her that unfortunately this time you don’t have the space to put them up, and that a trip to the Big Apple simply won’t fit in your schedule, désolée.

—Prudence, straightforwardly

Classic Prudie

I’ve been in a relationship with “Nick” for almost five years, and for the most part, it’s been smooth sailing. My family adores Nick. But lately, Nick and I have been arguing quite often. I’m a staunch Republican, and two of his friends, “Jordan and “Andrew,” don’t like that. They use all kinds of vile names for me, including “white trailer trash” and “inbred.” This started after I began working for a Republican organization. Before that, they were nice to me. Now they treat me terribly. I’m starting to believe that what they say about me is true .
