Frequently Asked Questions

Travel to eastern Georgia and you’ll encounter a more continental climate with fewer extremities of harsh weather, even during the winter. Head here during the summer months for dry, sunny days and mild nights. To avoid the heaviest rains, travel from June through to August.

In Tbilisi, the climate is much drier and you’ll find average temperatures at around 28-31°C, while during the winter months the thermometer drops down to single figures of around 7-8°C at best.

Holidays to Georgia with Qatar Airways Holidays usually start in Tbilisi, one of eastern Europe’s oldest cities. This fascinating city has been the site of human habitation since the early Bronze Age, and because of its location bridging east and west, has always been a hugely important centre for trade and commerce. It’s filled with superb galleries, historical buildings and museums, and the city’s parks and open spaces are charming and a welcome break from the busy streets.

This mix of modern and medieval makes Tbilisi one of our must-see destinations. However, while Georgia is a relatively small country, there’s plenty to see and do. Those who love the outdoors will be able to hire a car and head to the mountains for some wonderful hiking and cycling trails, where you can enjoy the first flushes of spring during April and May, or go climbing and skiing during the winter months.

It is recommended that you avoid drinking tap water or eating raw fruit and vegetables, as there have been some cases of Giardiasis (a rather unpleasant stomach bug) reported. However, these are few and far between, and most food and drink on offer is perfectly safe.

Religion is important to the Georgians, so you should show the proper respect when visiting religious sites. Dress appropriately, and don’t take photos unless there are signs expressly giving permission for you to do so. Women wearing trousers or shorts will not be allowed into some Georgian Orthodox churches.

Take your time wandering around the museums of Tbilisi, such as the wonderfully quirky G. Chitaia Ethnographical Open-Air Museum, which is home to around 70 old houses and buildings, or the charming Puppet Museum, which is bound to be a hit with the children.

The imposing Gelati Monastery is one of the most important structures in the country, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the towering Tsminda Sameba cathedral in Tbilisi is renowned for its stunning architecture and beautiful iconography.

Head out to the trails and paths of the foothills, or come here during the winter for some of the best skiing in Eastern Europe.

Discover the best that Tbilisi has to offer with some luxury tour packages to Georgia with Qatar Airways Holidays. This beautiful destination is becoming a hot favourite for those looking for a city break with a difference, or a weekend trip that takes you to somewhere a little off the beaten track.

Spend a magical few days at the River Side Hotel, or go for a weekend of sheer indulgence at the Hotel Ambassadori or the Biltmore Hotel. To discover everything that Tbilisi has to offer, why not book a Visit Tbilisi special? This customised tour takes you on a journey through the city’s cobbled streets and the main attractions of the city such as Old Tbilisi including Meydan and the sulphur baths, the stunning Metekhi plateau, the ultra-modern glass bridge of peace, and the Enthographic Museum.

With JourneyCart, we planned honeymoon tour to Mauritius. We got a decent hotel booking by Journey Cart. The hotel serves Indian food and it's located in front of Mauritius west coast beach. Mauritius sightseeing was also planned well, with rest day after an activity day. Overall, it was a very good Mauritius experience with Journey Cart's arrangements. Mr. Abhilash Sadhale

Journey Cart helped us to make our honeymoon trip to Kerala memorable. Team helped throughout our journey answering all of our queries. Most important aspect of our journey was the driver (and his AC car) who was with us all the time - he was very kind, fluent in English and Hindi and cooperative. Hotels were of extraordinary quality. Meal (dinner and breakfast) quality was also good. I really would recommend Journey Cart to anyone who is planning to make their holidays memorable with their beloved ones. Mr. Vishal Mohan Telangre

Afterwards, drive up the renowned Georgian Military Highway, which eventually leads to the Georgia–Russia border. On the way, you'll visit the Ananuri architectural complex – two churches and a fortress that overlook the Zhinvali water reservoir. Your leader will explain how the carvings on the churches are some of the best surviving examples of Georgian art. Take a scenic drive through the Caucasus Mountains, and arrive at your hotel in Gudauri. Enjoy an included dinner.

  • Marco Polo Hotel or similar (1 night)
  • Ananuri - Architectural Complex
  • Gori - Stalin Museum
  • Gori - City Tour

Today’s total driving time is approximately 5 hours.

Enjoy a stunning drive from Gudauri along the Tergi River before arriving in Stepantsminda. From here, head into the heart of the Caucasus Mountains, change the vehicle to 4WD and take the mountain road to Gergeti Trinity Church, located at 2170 metres above sea level. Weather depending, you may catch a glimpse of Mt Kazbegi. On the way back to Gudauri, stop at the small village of Sno to explore the local version of Easter Island - a park with half a dozen massive stone heads representing famous figures of Georgian history. Return to Gudauri this afternoon for time to relax in your hotel. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the mountain air and views. Your hotel has many facilities including a wellness centre.

  • Stepantsminda - Gergeti Trinity Church
  • Stepantsminda - Caucasus Mountains Day Trip

Enjoy a final breakfast in Gudauri before driving to Sadakhlo – a village at the Georgia–Armenia border. On the way to the border stop in Tbilisi to break the journey and have lunch. Continue to Armenia and after completing all formalities, begin the Armenian leg of your adventure with a visit to Haghpat Monastery, listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. Haghpat stands as an example of one of the most outstanding works of medieval Armenian architecture – your leader will give you an introduction to the country’s history and design. Continue on to the charming town of Dzoraget where you will spend the evening enjoying serene views of the Debed river.

  • Avan Dzoraget Hotel or similar (1 night)
  • Haghpat - Haghpat Monastery

Today’s total driving time is approximately 6 hours. Today is a long travel day, but the scenery is spectacular and there are plenty of stops to break the day. Depending on the size of the group, your luggage may be transported in a separate vehicle in Armenia, to allow for a comfortable trip.

After breakfast, you'll meet your Armenian driver, new vehicle, and local guide, and drive to the reflective waters of Lake Sevan, nicknamed ‘The Pearl of Armenia’. Sevan is one of the largest fresh-water high-altitude lakes in the world. Visit Sevanavank Monastery, which overlooks the water on the Peninsula. Move on to the village of Garni to visit the first century Garni Temple, where your guide will explain how it was built by the Armenian King Tiridates and dedicated to Mithra, the God of the Sun. Be treated to a special local performance in the temple and hear the magnificent sounds of the Duduk – a flute-like instrument originating to Armenia, and currently listed on the UNESCO in-tangible Cultural Heritage List. Travel northeast of Garni, higher up the gorge of the Azat River, to the magnificent Geghard Monastery. This World Heritage-listed site is partly carved out of a mountain and surrounded by cliffs. This morning your local guide will introduce you to the sights and sounds of Yerevan on a tour of the city. Established in 782 BC, Armenia’s capital is one of the oldest cities in the world. Nowadays, the city’s liveliness comes from its ancient culture mixed with a modern lifestyle. Afterwards, visit the Armenian Genocide Museum to learn the tragic history of this region. The afternoon is free for reflection or further exploration. Tonight, join your group for a final dinner at a local restaurant. Armenian cuisine is built on a foundation of fresh local produce and meat. Perhaps try some khorovats, a barbecued kebab, or spas, a refreshing yoghurt soup.

Hi there Tatev, I am sad to be back home. It goes without  saying that this Georgia and Armenia tour package was unforgettable. Arara tours was very professional, they were accommodating and responsive to my requests. The hotels were centrally located and had good service. I absolutely loved the food in both countries. I can not wait to go back and visit other parts of both Armenia and Georgia. If you are interested in ancient history and unique cultures, I would definitely recommend booking this tour.

Hello Emma,  Our flights went very well and we returned very tired. The trip was quite special. We have traveled a lot,  but I don’t think I have ever taken so many photos. So many interesting things we saw and places we visited: Ancient monasteries and relics and manuscripts!

The days were long but worth every minute.

The Hotel Sandali was very nice, especially the roof terrace. And our guide in Armenia was terrific. Altogether a great trip.

I am wishing for peace for Armenia now,

Ellen  Crompton

John and Kathie

We really enjoyed the trip . The vehicles and drivers were excellent. Both Sophi and Ani were delightful, friendly and informative. Ani was the star though if I had to choose. Very professional and highly informative. The Urban Park hotel was ok but not quite 4 star I think. Staff were great though so no cause for complaint. The Ani Plaza was a better hotel and more comfortable. More 4 star! Lol These are off the cuff observations and need cause no concern. Bottom line the trip was excellent, good itineraries, accommodations ok, great driver’s, good vehicles, great guides and pleasant fellow travelling companion,Ms from different nations. Will highly recommend you! Thanks for all your help Arev, Sincerely John and Kathie

Meals: NA Overnight: Hotel Ambassadori

Day 2 Sightseeing City Tour

This morning, meet your guide at the hotel lobby and start your personal discovery of Georgia with the city tour of its capital. First stop will be at glorious Sameba – the main cathedral and the tallest religious building of the country. Another “must see place” for today is Metekhi Church located in the neighborhood of the same name, gracefully situated on a cliff above Mtkvari river. Your guide will take you to the new Rike Park to make a photo-stop on The Bridge of Peace which is a modern structure designed by Italian architects and recently became one of the new symbols of the city.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Hotel Ambassadori

Day 3 Uplistsikhe

Early in the morning, we will depart for Uplistsikhe which is an impressive cave-city in the Eastern Georgia, which used to be a significant cultural center before the Christian era. The name Uplistsikhe literally means “The God’s Castle”. Visit the city of Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Short introduction tour of Gori and tour inside the Stalin Museum.

Day 4 Kakheti

This morning, we will visit Kekheti, an eastern part of Georgia famous for the old tradition of winemaking. You will see the female monastery Bodbe and have an opportunity to go down St Nino’s spring. Then you proceed to the highlight of today’s tour – visit to Signagi, the so-called “city of love”. It resembles an Italian city with its Mediterranean-styled small houses and narrow old streets. After the tour in Signaghi, you will have a chance to know more about the process of wine making as you visit one of the authentic wineries of Kakheti and have a tour inside of it.

Day 5 Kazbegi

Today, we will journey to Kazbegi along the Georgian Military Road to the fortress and monastery Ananuri located on the bank of Jinvali reservoir. Later on we will see the pride of Georgians – ski resort Gudauri, located at an altitude of 2195m. Tour of Gergety Trinity Church – the most important altar of 14th century, located on the slope of Mount Kazbek. You will go up the mountain by 4×4 jeeps and enjoy the breath-taking views.

Day 6 Transfer to the Armenian Border

Early this morning, we will transfer to the Armenian border where a change of transportation will take place. Continue the tour to Lori region – our marvelous region with vast forests and rich nature. Here there are UNESCO world heritage sites – architectural complexes of Sanahin (966 AD) and Haghpat (976 AD). The architectural details and decoration of the monuments, which belong to the same epoch, have much in common, which gives us a ground to presume that they were created by craftsmen of the same school.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight: Yerevan Marriott Hotel

Day 7 Visit to Geghard Monastery

After having breakfast at the hotel, we start the day with a visit to Geghard Monastery which is a unique architectural monument, founded in the fourth century, partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will continue our way to Garni, the only pagan temple in Armenia, where you can admire the unique mosaic baths and ruins of the royal palace. In Garni you will also have a possibility to taste Armenian bread baked in a special oven.

Day 8 Echmiadzin

Today we explore Echmiadzin – the centre of the Armenian Apostolic Church, where the Holly Cathedral and the residence of the Catholicos of All Armenians are located. Here you will visit Echmiadzin Museum where the treasures of all Armenians are kept. Zvartnots is also listed as a “UNESCO” world heritage site. It is called a “temple of ruins”.

Day 9 Departure
