Cruise Vacations
Our collection of cruise partners encompasses the best examples of the wide diversity of options available in cruising. From the family friendly, floating resorts of Royal Caribbean and Norwegian to the intimate, adult focused luxury of Regent and Seabourn, the market has something for everyone. In addition, we partner with a curated selection of both domestic and international river cruise companies such as Viking and AMAwaterways. And if your tastes lead you farther afield, we have the premier options in the expedition cruise market like Ponant and Lindblad Expeditions. So no matter where you wish to sail or what kind of ship you're lookng for, we have the relationships to make your travel dreams come true.
Group and Escorted Travel
Experiencing the world with friends, both old and new, can be one of the best features of travel. Whether it is family traveling together, a bunch of friends reuniting in a fun destination or a group with a common interest following their passion, group travel is an ideal way for people to connect. And we can handle all the logistics to make your group, large or small, into the trip of a lifetime. Or if you don’t have a group to travel with, our escorted tour partners like Tauck, Trafalgar and Globus can offer you a safe and seamlessly organized vacation with a group of likeminded individuals who will soon be your new traveling buddies.
Custom Touring
We can customize a vacation to your exact needs, regardless of your destination. And we can save you all the time and hassle of searching through on-line travel sites who are simply gigantic collections of poorly qualified products with almost no customer service to back them up if something happens. We partner with industry award-winning specialty operators, many with operations in the destinations themselves, who offer curated collections of the best products each destination has to offer. Whether it is a tour of European capitals, a jungle safari, or a relaxing stay in a beautiful beach resort, we can help you plan the trip down to the last detail and will be there for you throughout the entire trip to make sure it is the vacation you have dreamed of.

Welcome to the second annual list of Robb Report ’s Travel Masters.
Travel can be both profound and transformative. Exhilarating and unforgettable. But not always. The difference between a good trip and a great one—perhaps a life-changing one—is so often about tapping the right people to help plan it. It can be hard to know who to trust to create your dream adventure or even a jaunt back to your favorite destination. There are hundreds of travel specialists, after all, most of whom will argue convincingly that they have contacts and connections to open doors around the globe.
Only a handful of operators worldwide, however, have the expertise, clout and ambition to make the unimaginable real. To celebrate them, and to help you, we have brought them together under this Masters of Luxury banner. There are fewer than two dozen, nearly all of them specialists in certain regions or types of journeys. They come with our endorsement.
We’ve worked closely with the first group on stories over the past year, including asking them to nominate the hotels and suites they consider the greatest places to stay in the world. We’ll continue to partner with them in this way as well as on some exciting new initiatives we’ll soon be able to share (bookmark this page).
As always, if you’re traveling this year, don’t leave home without contacting one of them – and make sure to mention Robb Report sent you.
1. Christopher Wilmot-Sitwell, Cazenove & Loyd
The 25-strong, UK-based agency , steered by the three-decade veteran Wilmot-Sitwell, is known for deftly combining adventure travel—think long-haul jaunts to hard-to-reach Asian and African sites—with no-beat-missed luxury. It was an early champion of sustainability: The firm is committed to offsetting the carbon impact of its own research trips via CommuniTree, a Nicaraguan reforestation project (clients can sign up, too).
2. Henry Cookson, Cookson Adventures
Henry Cookson worked as a horse-riding safari guide in Africa before establishing his London-based firm . He’s carved out a niche that focuses on a small number of elaborate adventures; a few dozen custom itineraries are developed on demand each year. If you want a private trip to Antarctica, there may be no team better to organize it: Henry holds the world record for kite-skiing to the Pole of Inaccessibility, and Cookson Adventures was the first private company to take a submersible to Antarctica. The firm’s also offering Octopus , the renowned 413-foot explorer yacht owned by the late Paul Allen, for charter in the polar reaches.
3. Cari Gray, Gray & Co.
If you’re outdoorsy, ready for anything and prepared to sweat, call Cari Gray. Few manage to design and book high-end active trips with more finesse than the Canadian, who lives in Santa Monica, Calif. Gray combines thrilling, adrenaline-powered programming with much-needed indulgence, whether that’s organizing biking in the mountains of Mallorca or chartering a fishing expedition in the waters off Chile.
4. John Clifford, International Travel Management
John Clifford has almost four decades of experience as a trip designer for high-net-worth folk. Over that time, he’s developed a particular reputation for catering to LGBTQ+ travelers. From his base in San Diego, Calif. , Clifford works worldwide and he can as comfortably score you a last-minute Christmas vacay to Uxua in Trancoso as get you to Iceland’s Hotel Husafell in peak season. “My clients always get the best suite pre-blocked,” he says, “I often handpick it myself.”
5. Gary Portuesi & Jennifer Schwartz, Authentic Explorations
Hungry for Italy? Authentic Explorations is a go-to for any gourmet keen to indulge in truffles, bresaola and Barolo, among other Italian delicacies. Portuesi co-owns an Italian cooking school in NYC and thus certainly knows his stuff. A buyout of Massimo Bottura’s impossible-to-secure Osteria Francescana is easy enough for this team, but they’ll also happily supply a curated list of restaurants to your tastes. Of course, they’ll take care of booking them, too. AE has a headquarters stateside, as well as satellite offices in Florence and Sicily, giving it a head start on the ground in Italy. The company, formerly known as Authentic Italy, has recently broadened to other European vacation spots in recent years, including Croatia, Spain and Portugal.
6. Catherine Heald, Remote Lands
If you’re heading to multiple countries in Asia—from Japan to the Maldives and everything in between—there’s no better counsel than that of Catherine Heald. “I have devoted my life to Asia since moving to Hong Kong in 1987,” she says. Heald and her team have expertise in major cities, but the farthest flung spots are a specialty. Think: Japan’s Yakushima or India’s Sikkim. Heald’s trips often support good causes: Clients who travel to Siem Reap, for example, may dig a water well for a local family as part of their journey. Of course, travelers can expect a good dose of luxury, too.
7. Tanya Dalton, Greaves India
Dalton’s firm , with offices in London, Chicago and Delhi, has a firm handle on all things India. The family business, founded by her Mumbai-born grandfather and later run by her mother, has been around for more than four decades. As a result, Dalton has the ability to grant access to closely guarded sites in Southeast Asia’s largest country. Private palace? You got it. She can also wrangle suites in Rajasthani or program tiger-centric safaris. The choice is yours.
8. Cedric Reversade, Unique Properties & Events
Some call him the villa whisperer, and for good reason. Cedric Reversade, who splits his time between London and Paris, has an unparalleled list of the world’s most exclusive private homes in every must-visit destination, from Saint-Tropez to Capri. Many of the lavish pads are only available (discreetly) via his firm. He and business partner Paul Maxime Koskas don’t simply rent out properties, either. The duo’s point of difference has long been the concierge service that comes bundled with the rental ; it’s like having an ultra-connected EA in any place you vacation.
9. Sandy Cunningham, Uncharted
Sandy Cunningham’s firm Uncharted is aptly named, as it specializes in adventures and safaris in remote destinations. She began her career as a safari operator in East Africa, so she knows the game. Cunningham is adept at creating long-haul trips for large groups, too: She once booked a celebrity family into a private island in Seychelles without publicity, for instance. She has also proved she can safeguard a traveler’s privacy: She whisked the same family out a day earlier than planned, under cover of darkness, to avoid alerting any paparazzi.
10. Max Rosenthal & Stacy Fischer-Rosenthal, Fischer Travel
Max Rosenthal (center) is the third generation of his family to join Fischer Travel . The New York-based firm was founded by his grandfather Bill Fischer, but is currently run by his mom Stacy. The 30-strong operation is more like a members-only club than a conventional travel agency, with a $150,000 initiation fee and annual dues of $25,000. For that, the team opens up its little black book to create one-off experiences worldwide. Indeed, it was Fischer Travel clients who were the first to experience Camp Sarika at Amangiri a month before it opened to anyone else. Another client wanted to see Wadi Rum in Jordan, but the local hotel didn’t pass Fischer’s quality control, so the team shipped in 10 staff from the Kempinski in Aqaba to temporarily run the camp at a higher level.
11. Jean Sanz Bernay, JSB Journeys
US native Jean Sanz Bernay of the six-person boutique operation JSB Journeys has an affinity for all things Latin America. “I’ve traveled through, and lived in, every nook and cranny of South and Central America.” She has connections across the continent and continues to cater to all manner of requests. One client, for example, needed a last-minute, after-midnight jewelry store appointment in Lima to pick out his wife’s present, and another requested a strict kosher trip to Argentina with dinner at a local rabbi’s home.
12. Jules Maury, Scott Dunn Private
The elegant, charming Jules Maury grew up globetrotting. She was the daughter of a Dow Chemical exec whose career took him (and his family) all over the world. Maury became a travel specialist by happenstance while living overseas; friends persistently asked her advice due to her insiderish knowledge and fine taste. Now she’s made it her career. Based in London, she runs the ultra-elite offshoot of Scott Dunn. Maury’s team focuses on custom itineraries worldwide, with an emphasis on forging access to the impossible.
13. Deborah Calmeyer, Roar Africa
Zimbabwe-born Deborah Calmeyer is the go-to Africa expert for any ultra-high-net-worth traveler. She has on the ground offices in both Nairobi and Cape Town, plus headquarters in NYC. Roar Africa offers traditional safaris, but Calmeyer has also established a standalone division that ups the ante on the already-luxe trips. Roar Privé ‘s focus is villa exclusive rentals in the bush. It also offers private-jet-based safaris , which have proven so popular that they regularly sell out months in advance.
14. Kevin Jackson, EXP Journeys
When money is truly no object, EXP Journeys comes in. Jackson and his team create bespoke, one-time-only events in extraordinary locations, often with six-figure budgets or higher. Take the dinosaur dig in the southwest, for instance, in which guests helped discover a new species with a well-known paleontologist. Another standout was a dinner arranged in partnership with Navajo Nation that saw travelers break bread with the last living Navajo Code Talker from World War II.
15. Jonathan Alder, Jonathan’s Travels
Florida-based Jonathan Alder is another Africa insider: He once dropped everything to fly to East Africa to scout private aircraft for clients to use on a month-long trip across the continent. He recommends camps like Angama in the Masai Mara: Come for the walking safari, stay for the glass of champagne overlooking the valley. “It’s the exact spot where the movie poster for Out of Africa was taken,” he says. As a bonus, Alder is also an expert in Japan.
16. Stuart Rigg, Southern Crossings
For more than 30 years, Sydney-based Stuart Rigg has helped travelers explore Australia and New Zealand. Logistics and connections of all kinds are tricky Downunder, so his assistance is particularly welcome. There’s virtually no request he can’t find a way to fulfill. In fact, one celebrity tasked Rigg with organizing his 50th birthday at a mansion in Sydney. The manse’s gym had to be fully refitted and the A/C recalibrated to ensure the traveler’s ideal temp. The birthday bash itself was on a private island right in the heart of Sydney Harbour.
17. Julian Harrison, Premier Tours
Julian Harrison was born and raised in South Africa, before working as a guide there. This primed him to run a travel firm focused squarely on the continent. Beyond luxe safaris, Premier Tours offers trips to often-overlooked islands, like the Bazaruto Archipelago. Harrison is also known for working wonders when problems strike; whether that’s commandeering an aircraft to whisk clients from an unexpected flood in Kenya or handling immigration issues when a pet-chewed passport prevented a traveler from entering Johannesburg. (Harrison arranged a special appointment at the US embassy to replace the passport in situ.)
18. Alex Wix, Wix Squared
Longtime luxury travel specialist Alex Wix only launched her firm seven years ago, but she has become a go-to for trips to Morocco (where she’s based), Australia and Asia. Her expertise is in the hard-to-reach spots in those three territories, though it’s in Morocco where her connections are truly unmatched. For example, she can arrange a candlelit canyon dinner near a luxury camp in the picturesque Agafay desert. Wix loves a personal touch, too: She once organized silver and gold Temari (Japanese ornaments) for one couple traveling to Japan.
19. Ashley Isaacs Ganz, Artisans of Leisure
Artisans of Leisure is known for its ultra-luxe private tours of Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The NYC-based firm has previously arranged a visit to a nuclear research lab in France (CERN) and a rendezvous with a well-known Bernese Mountain Dog for some Silicon Valley-based millennials. It has also coordinated a wealthy family’s private-jet adventure to Greece, France and the UK. If you’ve always wanted to score the best room at the Ritz Paris or Claridge’s in London, Ashley Ganz can guarantee it.
20. Sunil Metcalfe, Black Tomato
London-born, Metcalfe shuttles between the UK and the US, servicing ultra high net worth clients on both sides of the Atlantic for Black Tomato . The firm, founded in 2005, was intended to disrupt the stuffily old-fashioned approach that dominated luxe travel, intending to broaden its appeal to a younger moneyed clientele. It remains one of the buzziest operators thanks to the cachet and connections of Metcalfe; he’s arranged everything from a pop-up spa in the heart of the Yucatan at Chichen Itza for a group of friends keen for RR&R (ruins, rest and relaxation) to an impromptu flyby from the Norwegian Air Force Fleet while fishing-mad clients cooked their catch in Norway ‘s Lofoten Islands.
21. Jaclyn Sienna India, Sienna Charles
Jaclyn Sienna India’s clients pay an annual retainer to keep her on speed dial, as she doubles as a lifestyle concierge and travel agent. If a villa on the Côte d’Azur in summer or a yacht in Sardinia’s seas is your focus, consider adding the Beverly Hills-based firm to your contacts. Sienna focuses on villas more than hotels, explaining: “It’s hard to get someone who has three homes worth $30 million or more each excited about a new hotel—hotels don’t offer the level of service they once did.” Another key differentiator when it comes to Sienna’s programming is the fact that all the guides she recommends have been sourced first-hand. That way, she can vouch for their quality without concern.
22. Ileana Von Hirsch, Five Star Greece
Need a villa worthy of Onassis in his pomp? Want to access the Acropolis in ways that even VIPs can’t wrangle? Last minute charter to Corfu a summertime emergency? Just ask von Hirsch, whose expertise and connections in Greece are unparalleled. She stumbled into the business when she and her sisters inherited what she calls “an extravagantly beautiful but impractical beach house” on a beach there, and had to find a way to commercialize it if they were to keep it (It didn’t hurt that Madonna was one of their first renters) von Hirsch quickly became the go-to broker for friends’ high-end villas, before expanding into all things Greece on both land and sea.

We are Caribbean Travel Specialists with a focus on luxury hotels. Since the day Caribbean Journey opened for business over 24 years ago, we’ve spent countless hours researching and visiting the top Caribbean luxury resorts. Our unmatched first-hand knowledge of the region means your itinerary will include unique and authentic experiences to enhance your vacation.
Deciding which island to visit is the hardest part of planning any Caribbean vacation. Our travel advisors don’t expect you to know where you want to go. After an initial consultation to gather the necessary details, we help you decide which Caribbean destination is right for you.
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
We bring your travel vision to life, puerto rico.
Many resorts in the Caribbean are very similar . While the internet is great for research, it’s plagued with inaccurate information. We help you decipher the information overload. Sometimes, the only differentiator is the vibe, which can only be determined once you’ve visited. Our in-depth knowledge of Caribbean hotels gives us the ability to translate this for you.
DISCOVER UNLIMITED BEAUTY
THERE IS A REASON THE CARIBBEAN IS ONE OF THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED REGIONS IN THE WORLD.
Artists have tried to capture her beauty in paintings; writers have attempted to describe it in words, but nothing can recreate the soul-stirring feeling that overtakes you when you travel to the Caribbean.
From soft sandy beaches and transparent turquoise water to bright green rainforest peaks that disappear in the mist, colorful architecture, and broad welcoming smiles, these scenes and the feelings they conjure up keep travelers returning to the Caribbean Islands time and time again.
If you’ve visited the Caribbean before, we’ll show you a different side. Let us reintroduce you to the islands and help you step off the beaten path and explore as you never have before. If this is your first visit, we’ll guide you through one of the most relaxing vacations you’ve ever taken.
Travel Inspiration
As Caribbean Travel Specialists, we love every island for different reasons, and our list of favorite hotels is always evolving. Our passion goes beyond the Caribbean Islands and includes the sunny coastline of Mexico and the diverse landscape of Central America .

We’d love to introduce you to somewhere new and help you find your favorite Caribbean luxury resort, or if you decide to return to a place you love, we will enhance your Caribbean travel with new experiences.

” Bucuti was absolutely amazing, fun, trip of a lifetime…perfect size resort for us. The staff were incredible as well as our room and food, of course, the beach! Thank you so much for your time and recommendation! “
Honeymoon to Le Toiny in St. Barths.
” Absolute perfection! It took us forever to decide on a hotel, but thankfully we listened and went with Le Toiny. I’m certain any place we had booked on our own would not have been as wonderful as this. Thank you so very much! “
Girlfriends Weekend to Nizuc in Cancun, Mexico
” We ate, drank, and floated all weekend! It was just what we needed. The hotel is an architectural gem and was so pretty to look at. The brunch was insane – I’ve never seen anything like it. We prefer to try new places, but I think we will be returning to Nizuc! “
Sunset Villa at Tryall in Montego Bay, Jamaica
” We loved Sunset and the staff at Sunset (Melva and Sonia were the best!). The villa was just what we wanted (to relax in our private pool or on our own beach). The villa was beautiful and we loved the open layout. We loved that we were on the beach (versus up on the hillside) and able to walk to the water sports center. Everyone was really nice and we would definitely return to Sunset. The food/drinks worked out fine and everything was yummy! Thank you again for all of your help. “
Family Vacation to Sugar Beach by Viceroy in St. Lucia
Sugar Beach was probably the nicest place I have ever been, both in service and scenery. We were upgraded to a Luxury Villa, with a terrace and plunge pool. The beach is incredible, and I couldn’t believe the snorkeling was that good right from the beach. We ate at Mango Tree at Stonefield Estate one night based on our taxi driver’s recommendation and it was very good. Thanks again for all of your help. Everything went very well! “

The Tully Difference
Usa - private travel.
The home of the brave is a never-ending river of exploration from coast to coast, a constant and multifaceted melting pot, always on the boil to create, innovate, dazzle and delight. There are thousands of stories to listen to in the United States of America – of people and places, past, and future – and a myriad of ways to revel in them. Through its iconic landmarks, offbeat treasures, vast natural beauty, cultural eminence, and historic notability, the U.S.A. continues to crash through life at top speed. Go along for the ride!
Big sky country takes over with the wide-open roads of Texas, the mesmerizingly beautiful deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, and up into the mountains of Colorado and Utah
Visitors can never get enough of the United States of America and its continuous cascade of adventure: Repeat visits are very much required. As such, Americans themselves are big on seeking out the new and exciting pieces of the vast puzzle they haven’t yet visited. Where haven’t you been? The historic east coast, the birthplace of the nation, brims with significant cultural centers to get to know and love – Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington – their historic and traditional traits just as celebrated as their unvarnished and vociferous side. A sweep across the south delivers Florida’s beaches and a cavalcade of amusements, Nashville’s honky-tonks, New Orleans’s Mardi Gras, Dollywood, and Graceland. Moving west, big sky country takes over with the wide-open roads of Texas, the mesmerizingly beautiful deserts of New Mexico and Arizona, and up into the mountains of Colorado and Utah, where outdoor diversion is the main attraction on the rolling hills year-round. California is the country’s most-visited state, home to Hollywood’s lavish luxury, the manicured boulevards of Palm Springs, the uniqueness of San Francisco, and the wine regions north of that. If you have the will, nip over to Las Vegas for a nighttime stroll along its famous Strip.

Vodka Museum Tour with transport (excursion only)
Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.
Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Express to Russia has a fully staffed office in Moscow that will help to make your visit fun, informative and unforgettable. Please remember that of all these tours are private and can be adjusted to your taste. You can add, replace or skip some sights; you can add more days to the package or cut the tour short. Our specialists will be glad to help you create the tour of your dreams!
Moscow, a City Like No Other
Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.
Moscow Tours centering on Russian History
Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.
Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
What is the best time to visit moscow.
Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide
How many days are enough in Moscow?
If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.
Do they speak English in Moscow?
As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.
Is it safe to travel to Moscow?
It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you. For more information, read our guide about staying safe in Russia .

8 Affordable US Trip Ideas So You Can Finally Plan That 2024 Getaway
Posted: November 9, 2023 | Last updated: November 9, 2023
If you have been aching to get away , now is the time to start planning your 2024 vacation. While international travel may still cost an arm and a leg, flights within the U.S. are pretty affordable. If you plan now, you may be able to sneak away for a long weekend for less than ever.
I'm a Luxury Travel Agent: 10 Destinations My Wealthy Clients Are Booking for 2024 Find Out: How To Get Cash Back on Your Everyday Purchases
At GOBankingRates, we asked travel experts from around the country where the best and most cost-efficient destinations will be next year. Here are 8 affordable trip ideas so you can finally plan that 2024 getaway.
Miami or Sarasota, Florida
Molly Egan, a travel and hospitality expert and founder of themollyegan , recommended Florida as an inexpensive destination.
Discover: 8 Tips to Fly Business Class for the Price of Economy Related: Don't Buy Airline Tickets at This Time of Day
She stated, "For a beach getaway in Florida, such as Miami or Sarasota, plan a visit in October or early May to avoid peak times. You will avoid the snowbird crowds, spring breakers and heat, and best of all, snag a great lodging and flight deal!"
Sponsored: New Chase checking customers enjoy a $200 bonus when you open a Chase Total Checking® account and set up direct deposit.
Bozeman, Montana
Egan noted that for western adventures, she would suggest, "Bozeman, Montana, in June and October, which are slow times for the city, so that you can snag an affordable deal! The same timing goes for Western Colorado towns such as Vail, Colorado."
She continued, "The beginning of October is a great time to see the leaves changing, go hiking, feel like you have the whole mountain town to yourself and find the best lodging deals. If you are interested in skiing, the best time is late November or early December and early to mid-April (the skiing conditions vary, but the deals are the best)."

Savannah, Georgia
Tracy Kennedy, an experienced travel advisor at Tasmania , noted, "If you're eyeing an affordable yet enriching U.S. trip for 2024, Savannah, Georgia, should be high on your list. The city is a perfect blend of traditional Southern charm and modern allure, and it's an ideal destination for a 2-3 day weekend getaway. Flights to Savannah are usually economical, with multiple carriers offering competitive rates."
She added, "Once there, you can enjoy quintessential forms of tourism such as exploring the historic district, strolling through Forsyth Park, and taking a riverboat cruise. The culinary scene is exceptional but won't break the bank, offering classic Southern dishes that are rich in flavor but easy on the wallet."
She also stated, "However, what sets Savannah apart is its unique offerings like the Sorrel Weed House Museum. This historic haunted house provides an unforgettable experience, especially if you're planning a trip around Halloween. Not only does it offer a glimpse into 19th-century life in the South, but it also has its share of ghost stories and paranormal activities, adding a thrilling element to your visit."
Asheville, North Carolina
Adrian Todd, an outdoor and travel expert, hiking coach and owner of Great Minds Think Hike , said, "One of my favorite places to go to is Asheville. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a great destination with various things to do."
He continued, "Asheville has some of the most breweries in and around than most places East of the Mississippi. You can hike in the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park, visit the Biltmore Estate, or explore the artsy downtown area."
Santa Fe, New Mexico
"Santa Fe is a really neat place," Todd also noted. He explained it is "full of neat adobe style houses and architecture. I recommend going to the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, but to make sure to book way ahead in advance."
He also suggested, "Check out the oldest house and church in the US near the downtown area. Be sure to visit the Loretto Chapel to see the mysterious staircase and head to the downtown area during the market when all the natives come by to sell handcrafted items."
Vacation Season: 10 Essentials You Should Buy at Dollar Tree for Your Next Trip
Stanley, Idaho
For fishing and outdoor activities, Todd recommended Stanley, Idaho. He said it is "a small town located to the East in Idaho. It is a beautiful mountain time hugged by the Sawtooth Mountains. I highly recommend checking this place out during the summer months when it is a lot warmer."
He continued, "Go fishing along the Salmon River, hiking to Sawtooth Lake, and camping near Redfish Lake. There is so much to do for all outdoor lovers in this destination."
Nashville, Tennessee
"Nashville is historically known for its live music scene and offers a vibrant atmosphere and many free or affordable activities," stated Todd. "You can explore the city's music history, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, and enjoy live music in honky-tonks," he said.
The hiking enthusiast added, "There are also a lot of things to do out in nature in Tennessee if the city life isn't your cup of tea. Check out the Great Smoky Mountains to visit the most popular and visited national park in the US."
Loveland, Ohio
"Loveland, Ohio, is known as the 'Sweetheart of Ohio,'" explained Krista Rose, marketing and communications coordinator for the City of Loveland. "We are the perfect destination for a Midwest trip on a budget! We are often told Loveland feels like a 'resort town' and 'time slows down here.'"
She continued, "Loveland is located about 15 miles north of Cincinnati and close to major highways including I-75 and I-71. We are known for our river and trails, making us a favorite trip for outdoor enthusiasts."
For outdoor adventure seekers she recommended, "the Little Miami Scenic Trail is an 80-mile bike/pedestrian trail across Ohio. This trail runs through the center of Loveland. Visit for a day of canoeing, kayaking, and outdoor adventure! After you explore the trail, explore Historic Downtown Loveland's unique shopping and dining. There are quaint AirBNBs and a boutique hotel in town."

19 Unique And Fabulous Experiences In Moscow
- Destinations
Thinking of visiting Russia? When visiting such a famous city, one must, of course, visit the iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists. Once you’ve seen the sights that are on most travelers’ lists, it’s time to branch out and visit some of the lesser-known sites, and there are some fascinating places to see and things to do.
I know this list is long, but I just couldn’t help myself. You probably won’t have the time to see them all. But that’s okay. Just scroll through the list and choose what sounds the most interesting to you. Where possible, make sure to book in advance, as things can get crowded, especially during high season.
1. The Red Square, Kremlin, And Surroundings
Red Square (Krasnya Ploshad) is the heart and soul of Russia, and where much of the country’s history has unfolded. This is the most famous landmark in Moscow and indeed the whole country, it’s an absolute must-do! The square is always full of people and has a rather festive atmosphere!
Saint Basil’s Cathedral
This is the famous church with the rainbow-colored, onion-domed roof. The cathedral was commissioned in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible and according to legend, the Tsar thought it was so beautiful, that he ordered that the architect’s eyes be cut out afterward, so he could never build anything more beautiful! He wasn’t called Ivan the Terrible for no reason!
Lenin’s Mausoleum
The “love-it-or-hate-it” of tourist attractions in Russia. A glass sarcophagus containing the embalmed body of Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Lenin. It may seem a bit bizarre to display the mummy of a person, but it has been there for almost half a century and the 2.5 million visitors who come each year, clearly feel the queuing and thorough body search are worth it, to be in Lenin’s presence.
Pro Tip: no photos and no loud talking are allowed inside the Mausoleum.
Eternal Flame
There is an Eternal Flame in honor of an unknown soldier on the left side of Red Square. The hourly changing of the guards is worth seeing.
The Kremlin is the official residence of the Russian president. You can see it from the outside, or you can take an excursion to one of the museums located inside. This is the biggest active fortress in Europe, and holds a week’s worth of attractions! Once behind the 7,332-feet of walls, there are five squares, four cathedrals, 20 towers, various museums, and the world’s largest bell and cannon to see. Worth a special mention is the Armory Chamber that houses a collection of the famous Faberge Eggs.
Pro Tip: You can only go inside the Kremlin if you are part of a tourist group.
2. Bolshoi Theatre
Bolshoi Theatre translates to “The Big Theatre” in Russian, and the building is home to both the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera — among the oldest and most famous ballet and opera companies in the world.
Pro Tip: It’s hard to get an inexpensive ticket, so if you’re reading well in advance of going to Moscow then try buying tickets on the official website . Last-minute tickets cost around $250 per person. If this is out of your budget, about an hour before a performance, you can try buying a ticket at the entrance from a reseller. Most can speak enough English to negotiate the price.
Tour the Bolshoi Theatre: You can take a group guided tour of the Bolshoi Theatre which focuses on the history and architecture of the theatre and behind the scenes. There’s an English language tour that lasts 2 hours and costs around $300 for a group of up to six.
3. Luxury Shopping At GUM And TSUM
Russia’s main department store, GUM, has a stunning interior that is home to over 100 high-end boutiques, selling a variety of brands: from luxurious Dior to the more affordable Zara. Even if shopping is not on your Moscow to-do list GUM is still worth a visit; the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square and offers a variety of classy eateries. TSUM, one of the biggest luxury malls in town, is right behind the Bolshoi and GUM. It’s an imposing building with lots of history, and worth a visit just for its design and its glass roof.
4. Christ The Savior Cathedral
This is one of Russia’s most visited cathedrals and is a newer addition to the gorgeous array of Muscovite cathedrals, but don’t let its young age fool you. After perestroika, in the early 90s, the revived Russian Orthodox Church was given permission to build a cathedral on this site. It did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church. The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes, gold, gorgeous paintings, and decor!
The cathedral is located just a few hundred feet away from the Kremlin and was the site of the infamous Pussy Riot protest against Putin back in 2012.
Pro Tip: Bring a shawl to cover your hair as is the local custom.
5. Gorky Park
Moscow’s premier green space, Gorky Park (Park Gor’kogo) is the city’s biggest and most famous park. There is entertainment on offer here for every taste, from outdoor dancing sessions to yoga classes, volleyball, ping-pong, rollerblading, and bike and boat rental in summer. In winter, half the park turns into a huge ice skating rink. Gorky Park is also home to an open-air movie theater and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also Muzeon Art Park, a dynamic contemporary space with a unique collection of 700 sculptures. It is located right in front of Gorky Park.
6. Sparrow Hills Park
If you take a walk from Gorky Park, along the Moscow River embankment, you’ll end up in the city’s other legendary park, Sparrow Hills. Although the park doesn’t offer as many activities as its hip neighbor, it has a great panoramic view of the city
Pro Tip: You can take a free walking tour to all of the above attractions with an English-speaking guide.
7. River Cruising
One of the best ways to experience Moscow, and see all the famous landmarks, but from a different angle, is from the Moscow River. Take a river cruise. Avoid the tourist crowds. There are little nameless old boats that do the cruise, but if you are looking for a more luxurious experience take the Radisson Blu cruise and enjoy the sights with some good food and a glass of wine.
8. Metro Hopping
Inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow Metro system is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. Started in Stalinist times, each station is a work of art in its own right. I’d recommend touring the stations between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. This way, you’ll be able to properly see it without the crowds. Ideally, I’d recommend taking a tour with a knowledgeable guide with GuruWalk, who will tell you stories of forgotten stations and how the history of the country is interconnected with the metro development. If going by yourself, then I definitely recommend checking out: Mayakovskaya, Ploschad Revolutsii, Kievskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Kurskaya, and Novoslobodskaya stations.
Visit the free Moscow Metro Museum: For real train enthusiasts, located in the southern vestibule of Sportivnaya station is a small free museum. Here you can take a peek into the driver’s cabin, see a collection of metro tokens from different cities, and see different models of a turnstile, traffic lights, escalator, and more.
9. Moscow State University View
In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings and the one with the best view is the main building of the Moscow State University. Although this is a little outside the city center, the view is more than worth it.
10. Izmailovsky Market
Mostly known for the city’s largest flea market, the district of Izmaylovo is home to a maze of shops where you can get just about anything, from artisan crafts to traditional fur hats, handcrafted jewelry, fascinating Soviet memorabilia, and antiquities. It’s also one of Moscow’s largest green spaces. There are often no price tags, so be prepared to haggle a bit. Head to one of the market cafes for a warming mulled wine before continuing your shopping spree.
The History of Vodka Museum is found here, and the museum’s restaurant is the perfect place to sample various brands of the national drink.
Once you’ve covered the more touristy spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer, and the places below will also be full of locals! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend the spots below!
11. Moscow City
With a completely different vibe, Moscow City (also referred to as Moscow International Business Center) is like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressive tall glass buildings. Here is where you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, like Ruski Restaurant, the highest restaurant both in Moscow City and in Europe. Moscow City is great for crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.
12. Tretyakov Gallery
Tretyakov Gallery started as the private collection of the Tretyakov brothers, who were 19th-century philanthropists. They gave their private collection to the government after their deaths. If there is just one museum you visit in Moscow, I recommend this one!
13. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve
Tsaritsyno was a residence of Catherine the Great more than two centuries ago. It became derelict during the Soviet era but has now been fully renovated. With its opulently decorated buildings, gardens, meadows, and forests, Tsaritsyno Park is the perfect place for a green respite in Moscow.
14. Kolomenskoye
A 10-minute metro ride from the city center is Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve, where you can get an idea of what Russia looked like 200 years ago. You’ll find ancient churches (one dating back to the 16th century), the oldest garden in Moscow, and the wonderful fairytale wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, father of Peter the Great.
15. Ostankino TV Tower
Built in 1967, Ostankino TV Tower was the tallest free-standing construction in the world at the time, it’s still the 8th tallest building in the world and the highest in Europe. It’s also the best observation deck, with a glass floor and 360-degree views. The speedy elevators take you 1,105 feet in next to no time.
Pro Tip: You need to book in advance; entrance is based on specific ticket times and the capacity is limited and only a certain number of tourists are allowed per day. Don’t forget your passport, you’ll need it to get through security.
16. Zaryadye Park
Zaryadye is a newly opened, landscaped urban park so new you won’t find it in a lot of tour guides. The park is near Red Square and is divided into four climatic zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains, depicting the variety of climatic zones in Russia.
These last three suggestions are a little quirky, but all are really worth checking out.
17. Museum Of Soviet Arcade Games
Release your inner child playing on 66 arcade machines from the Soviet era! What a great way to spend a couple of hours when tired of visiting museums and palaces. The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain how the games work.
18. Moscow Rooftop Tour
Take a 1-hour private Moscow rooftop tour with an experienced roofer. I can just about guarantee none of your friends will be able to say they’ve done it! For your comfort, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Take your camera, there are some amazing photo opportunities out there!
19. Sanduny Banya
This classical Russian bathhouse opened its doors in 1808 and is famous for combining traditional Russian banya services with luxurious interiors and service. If you enjoy spas and saunas, then you should experience a Russian bathhouse at least once in your life! Go with an open mind and hire a specialist to steam you as it’s meant to be done — by being beaten repeatedly with a besom (a leafy branch)! This is said to improve circulation, but is best done by a professional!
So there you have my list of things to do in Moscow. I could have gone on and on and on, but I didn’t want to try your patience! There are so many things to do in this vibrant city that you’ll definitely need to allocate several days for exploring.
