There are multiple trains from howrah to ghatshila, but I would suggest to take either Ispat Express(departure- 06.55 am) or Howrah-Barabil Janshatabdi(departure- 06.20 am). It would take around 3 to 3.30 hours to reach Ghatshila. We opted for Howrah-Barabil Janshatabdi and reached Ghatshila on 10 o’clock.

I suggest you not to book hotels online rather find one upon reaching Ghatshila as it will be more economical. There is an auto stand beside platform no. 1 of Ghatshila railway station. From there take an auto and ask the driver to show you some hotels. And also never forget to bargain whether it’s the auto fare or the hotel prices(you can’t do it online), you will be surprised to see how much you can save with bargaining.

As we went in the holiday season, rooms were unavailable in most of the hotels. After searching for almost 45 minutes we finally found a lodge with vacant rooms, and lucky we that the entire lodge was empty that time. We gave Rs.90 to the auto driver for the ride and helping us to find the lodge(we were 9 friends so it costs 10 per person). Each room costs us 700/night. The rooms were pretty nice and comfortable. Deepak, the owner of the lodge was very friendly and helpful. His no. 9939400547.

After freshen up in our rooms we went out for lunch. There were only two dhabas near our lodge. "Mother's Kitchen" was the worst of them with very low quality food highly overpriced, definitely recommend to avoid this one. But as no one has warned us before we became the victims. Anyways after completing our lunch we decided to visit the nearby hills which can be seen from Ghatshila but seems very far. So we asked in a local shop how to get there, he told us to catch a bus and reach Karsing and from there we can explore the hill areas by foot.

So as he suggested we boarded a bus to Karsing, actually we made the whole journey sitting on the roof of the bus, it was a first time for me and quite thrilling, please don't attempt to do it if you are scared of roller coaster, as the road was very wave like and even can make you vomit. The most scenic part of the journey was crossing a bridge above Subarnarekha river, it was just breathtaking. Bus fare was Rs.10/person.

Reaching Karsing we started trekking to the hills. On the way we came across a number of beautiful small streams and water-bodies. You can describe the whole area as a forest grown on the hills. It was so beautiful and wild. Every now and then we had to stop to capture the views and wilderness around us be it the streams flowing downwards with crystal clear water, mysterious looking trees, small water-bodies, wild flowers and birds and the scenic views of the other hills at a distance. After almost 2 and half hours of trekking we reached the hill top. We celebrated our small summit with cheers and spent 10-15 minutes enjoying the views.

As we started our descent after sometime we realized that we lost our way, but as the daylight was disappearing rapidly, we decided to continue descending rather finding the original path. Actually it was quite thrilling to get lost in the wilderness. Finally almost an hour later the road was visible to us. It was already darkened and became pretty cold, but rather hurrying to catch a bus to return, we decided to spend some more time there and made a small bonfire just at the bottom of the hill that we had clime. But be cautious, it won't be a good idea to stay and do whatever you want in an unknown place(especially after sunset) if you go with your family or partner. Remember we were a group of 9 friends all above 20, and that's why we dared to do these things. Next we ate some chaat in a small shop nearby and took a auto to return to Ghatshila. Auto fare was Rs.10/person. At night we asked Deepak(our hotel owner) where we can get mohua( local liquor made from mohua tree) to drink . He suggested us not to buy it ourselves as local sellers can cheat with tourists and can even mix synthetic chemicals with the original thing other than make you pay more than the usual cost, he told that he will arrange mohua for us next day and not to worry about that. Finally a day well spent.

Next day we wake up quite late at around 10 a.m. as we drank and smoked heavily previous night. After having tea and kachouries we went out for sight seeing. We hired the same auto that we hired 1st day. Our first stop was a waterfall on the bank of Subarnarekha river. It was so beautiful that we took countless pictures there. We climbed through the rocks to the top of the waterfall from where the view was pretty great.

Photo of A Refreshing Trip to Ghatshila by Imon

Next we went to visit Burudi lake and dam. The path to Burudi lake is surrounded by dense forest and there was few tribal villages within the forest. Burudi lake is quite big, boating also available. We didn't do boating, rather we decided to take a bath in the lake for the fun of it. Though the water was ice cold we somehow gather the courage and jump into the water, the feeling was like countless pins are piercing through you body simultaneously. After spending just couple of minutes in the water we quickly got out and dried up ourselves. Surprisingly we felt so much refreshed and energized after the bath. (P.S. we all carried our backpacks with us wherever we gone, so there was no issue with clothing and towels while bathing) After that we trek a nearby hill and came down to have lunch lunch at a stall near the lake. It costs Rs.60/person for egg thali. then we went to the portion of the lake where the dam is built. As the water level of the lake was pretty low there was nothing much to see.

Photo of A Refreshing Trip to Ghatshila by Imon

Our next destination was Fuldohori hill top. This place is particularly important as the great Bengali author Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay used to come here and wrote his novels. Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay lived in Ghatshila. We hiked to the hill top clicked some compulsory pics and came down within 45 minutes.

Photo of A Refreshing Trip to Ghatshila by Imon

Finally we visited Bibhuti Bhushan Bandopadhyay's house. Here they have kept and restored many of his whereabouts and manuscripts. Personally as a keen follower of his novels it felt very special to be able to visit his house.

Finally we returned to our hotel where we greeted with 4 bottles of mohua, which Deepak had already brought for us. We thanked him whole heartedly and started to prepare for the night. 1ltr bottle of mohua costs Rs.60. I highly recommend you to try it by yourself. It takes some time to show effects on you, its very much like weed, when you become high it can give you a good trip depending on your mood. It has no taste but has a strong smell. At night we went for dinner at the second dhaba(not remembered the name), it costs us Rs. 70/person including non-veg items, the quality of the food was also not that bad. Another day spent high and well.

There are two other attractions you can visit, one is Dharagiri falls and Galoudi Dam. We intentionally not gone for those two sights.

Next day after breakfast we reached Ghatshila railway station, bought our ticket and catch the Ghatshila-Howrah passenger train at 2 p.m. The train departs at around 3 p.m after an hour delay and we reach Howrah by 7 p.m.

Riverside Resort Ghatshila

Ghatshila an all time favorite weekend destination offers you a new stay with large open space for kids and river banks to refresh yourself.

Who doesn’t like a break from the chaos of life and work related stress to relax a bit in the lap of nature? We’ll say that everyone loves it and deserves it as well. Are you too looking for such tourist places, where you can take a break and rejuvenate your tired mind and body? In that case, Riverside Resort – Ghatshila, situated at the bank of the Subarnarekha River, can be a great option for you. Located in Jharkhand, Ghatshila is a famous hill station that has been preferred by many tourists from all over India (and especially by the Bengalis for many years).

Sitting in the lap of hills and dense forests, Ghatshila is enriched with tranquil natural beauty. The name of this place comes from the Ghatshila Rankini Mandir, established by Raja Jagannath Deb. The Rankini Mandir is a local ‘Goddess Kali’ temple worshipped and revered by the people and devotees from the nearby areas. In the past, tourists have often visited this place when they wanted a change of weather to improve their physical or mental health. While this particular practice is not as widespread now as it was before, this place still does not fall short in providing the same level of comfort, peace, and relaxation as before.

Accommodation at Riverside Resort Ghatshila

The cottages come as a bonus to this beautiful tourist attraction. Our property is designed specifically for your relaxation. It has an enormous area adorned with lush green grass. Many trees and shrubs make the ambiance even more soothing. Our cottages have well-equipped and spacious rooms that can provide adequate comfort for our guests. We have a kitchen managed by talented cooks who can serve you hot piping homely meals when you return to those cottages after a tiresome day. Think of our cottages not as a resort or a hotel, but as your own dwelling in a beautiful hill station where you can get the comfort of your home along with the serenity and beauty of Ghatshila in the same package.

The property has huge lush green spaces where you can take a walk, have a meditation session, or spend some time in nature with one of your favorite books. From the yards of our cottages, you can even watch the sunset or sunrise over the Phuldungri hilltop. Also, we have facilities for an open bonfire, where you can chitchat and spend some quality time while watching your food getting roasted in the wood-lit fire. The river is nearby too. Take a walk to the riverside, sit on the banks, and indulge in fishing. You will love every moment of your time there.

Rankini kali temple:.

Are you a fan of historical temples & structures? If the answer is yes, then the Ghatshila Rankini Kali Temple can be a great choice for you. It is a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, the warrior avatar of the Primordial Mother Goddess of Hinduism. The place has carvings of Hindu deities painted on the walls of the temple.

Phuldungri Hills:

This is another tourist attraction near Ghatshila. It is a hill spot covered with dense forest where incomparable scenic beauty complements the spot. This place is yet to be hounded by the usual raucous crowd, which has helped to preserve its natural state.

Burudih lake:

This entity sits next to the Burudih Dam. It was developed by the British. It is now a popular attraction for tourists. If you are interested in watersports, you can have a good time here. Also, you can enjoy the motorboating and pedal boating facilities, and soon one can take part in water surfing and banana rides here too.

Dharagiri waterfall:

If you are a nature lover, do visit the Dharagiri waterfall. It is a pristine natural heaven. Its scenic beauty will easily take your breath away. The best time to visit here is during the early morning hours.

Road: From Kolkata, the property is approximately 245 km away and takes around 6 hours, if one takes the highways of NH16 or NH49.

The Winter season is a great time to visit Ghatsila, or the early spring. Please do come here between late October to March, and you will love the weather. The scenic beauty of the hills here lined by floral trees in bloom will enchant you. At that time, you can go sightseeing easily. The summer is a bit harsher here.

Worst experience. Room charges are on much higher side compared with the charges. Rooms are small, bathroom too small, service is almost not present. Behaviour of reception persons and the owner is unpleasant. Charged extra 1.5% for credit cards otherwise asked to pay in cash. As I do not carry cash they asked to withdraw from ATM which is 5 km away and provide no assistance to reach there. No blanket was provided and rooms are full of mosquito, red ants and insects. Adviced take a second thought before booking the property. Only good thing is location.

Thank you sir for your valuable feedback. We will convey this to the hotel owner and hope they will serve more professionally from next time.

Still need tickets to the 2024 Grand Prix of Long Beach? Here's how much they cost

The various packages in fact, run from as little as $40 — all the way up to $1,275.

Below is a breakdown of available ticket packages and their cost. To buy tickets, go to gplb.com/tickets .

Related: Here's what's happening, and when, during the 2024 Grand Prix of Long Beach

* Friday: $40.

* Three-day package (no reserved seating on Friday): $131 or $185, and $102 or $144 for juniors, depending on the seats.

Paddock access

These packages provide access to the NTT IndyCar Series paddock. But they do not provide admission to the circuit, so you have to buy those tickets as well. Tickets:

* Friday, Saturday or Sunday: $32.

* Three-day package: $75.

Super Photo Ticket

This is the package for you if you want to take great photos of the racing.

The Super Photo Ticket includes three-day admission, paddock access, access to three special photo locations and limited access to the racing pit during practice and qualifying.

With this package, you can hang out at the iconic restaurant during the races. Bubba Gump Shrimp, 87 Aquarium Way, has views of multiple turns, and will also have television screens broadcasting the action. The package also comes with free buffet breakfast and brunch.

This package costs $285 for Saturday and $300 for Sunday.

This club is hosted by the Committee of 300, a nonprofit that has worked to benefit the community for more than four decades.

The club has a live television feed of the circuit, a dance floor, free breakfast and lunch, and other amenities.

This package, like the Bubba Gump Shrimp one, is an add-on, so you must first buy a reserved ticket. Tickets:

* Saturday: $210.

* Sunday: $240.

* Three-day: $430.

Hospitality clubs

There are three clubs from which to choose: Vista, Seaside and Pit Lane.

The Vista Club is on the 17th floor of the Hyatt Regency Hotel and offers a view of the pits, the oceanfront straightaway, and turns 1 to 6, as well as the harbor and Long Beach skyline.

The Seaside Club is on the Seaside Way back straight and is usually the first to sell out, according to the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach website.

The Pit Lane Club is the most-exclusive, putting you right above the pit and the straightaway. It also comes with limited pit access.

While the complimentary meals vary at each club, all three offer a full bar with complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks on Saturday and Sunday.

But you can't buy these tickets the way you do the others. Instead, you must fill out an order form, which is available at gplb.com/vip-club-packages . Tickets:

* Vista Club: $450 for Friday/Saturday only; $525 for Sunday only and $850 for all three days.

* Seaside Club (all three days): $850.

* Pit Lane Club (all three days): $1,275.

Parking is at a premium during the Grand Prix of Long Beach. There are so many cars trying to get in and out of downtown Long Beach during the event, in fact, that you might find it easier to take public transportation — even if you live as far away as Pasadena.

But if you do drive, there are parking packages available:

* Shoreline parking: $20 a day or $50 for all three days.

* Pike parking: $60 for all three days.
