A Mindful Guide To Spirituality For Beginners + 15 Steps For Beginning A Spiritual Journey

Maybe you’re looking to understand your purpose in this life, or you’re experiencing an existential crisis .

Or perhaps you’re starting to examine the belief system you grew up with. Whichever the case, you’re contemplating a spiritual journey .

But where and how should you start?

To help you figure it out, we’ve created this beginner’s guide to spirituality.

Below, we’ll unpack definitions, look at different spirituality types , review the process, and briefly discuss the available practice paths.

What Is Spirituality?

What is a spiritual journey, mystical spirituality, authoritarian spirituality, intellectual spirituality, service spirituality, social spirituality, they lack patience, they engage in enlightenment arrogance, they search for external answers, they crave external validation, they confuse spirituality and material goal-setting, the benefits of learning how to be spiritual, 1. declutter your spaces, 2. take stock of your current belief system, 3. develop a self-care routine, 4. read up on the possibilities, 5. decide whether you will share your plans, 6. reconnect with nature, 7. learn to be kind to yourself, 8. choose the path you want to try, 9. keep an open mind, 10. give everything you try a chance, 11. be on the lookout for scammers, 12. keep a record of your progress, 13. try rituals, 14. allow yourself to believe, 15. read, learn and absorb, path of knowledge, path of devotion, path of meditation, path of service, path of energy.

What are the basics of spirituality ? In some ways, it’s an impossible question to answer because spirituality means different things to different people.

For some, it’s a religious pursuit. For others, it’s an individual exploration of spirituality.

The director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health, Christina Puchalski, MD, contends that “spirituality is the aspect of humanity that refers to the way individuals seek and express meaning and purpose and the way they experience their connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature, and to the significant or sacred.”

Generally speaking, most forms of spirituality:

  • Invite practitioners to connect with a higher power or source
  • Encourage a transcendental end-goal through belief or energetic experiences
  • Involve the search for greater meaning or feeling
  • Feature a relationship between the practitioner and a divine force

What Are The 3 Elements of Spirituality?

Back in the day, the three pillars of spirituality were truth, goodness, and religiosity. People’s definitions, narratives, and rituals differed, but nearly everyone saw spirituality as a religious undertaking.

But things are different these days. Sociologically speaking, spirituality is no longer tethered to a theological framework. And while religion colors many people’s spiritual pursuits, growing numbers are severing that tie.

As contradictory as it may sound, it’s not uncommon to meet deeply spiritual atheists — which begs the question: What are the three new elements of spirituality in an increasingly secular world? We’d argue they’re connection, love, and faith.

Most people pursuing spiritual journeys want to feel deeper connections with themselves, others, and the Universe. For some, the bond is cosmic and otherworldly; for others, it’s about communing with nature, neighbors, and the galaxy’s physical realities.

It’s been said that love makes the world go round, and we’d agree. When people love instead of hate, offer grace instead of judgment, and collaborate instead of competing, everything — (and by extension everyone) — is better.

Faith has myriad definitions and is expressed in disparate ways. For some, it’s a religious undertaking. For others, faith is linked to personal development and fostering humble confidence.

Have you been wondering how to start a spiritual journey?

One of the most important things to understand is that going through one can take physical and emotional effort since most of us cruise through life on autopilot.

The energetic shift required to change spiritual gears can be more intense than people imagine.

But it’s well worth the endeavor. Navigating a spiritual journey can help us become comfortable with ourselves and live more meaningful, joyful, fulfilling lives.

With courage, forgiveness, and honesty, we can examine our true natures and develop greater capacities for love and compassion.

People who successfully go through a spiritual transformation tend to be more content, calmer, and self-confident.

What Are the Types of Spirituality?

There are several types of spirituality. Some folks pursue all of them; others pick one or two to master.

The choice is yours and may depend on a “soul contract” you signed before diving into this life.

Mystical spirituality focuses on cosmic and intuitive aspects of existence. People who subscribe to these types of esoteric belief systems have faith in a force more powerful than what we can see and touch.

They also believe in a universal unity that transcends the physical world.

Practitioners of mystical spirituality may say things like “everything happens for a reason” and “there’s a cosmic explanation behind everything.”

Authoritarian spirituality involves devotion to a hierarchical structure in the heavens and Earth. Fundamentalist commitment to a religion or belief system is the most common type of Authoritarian spirituality.

Sometimes, this type of journey can safely allow individuals to immerse themselves in their chosen faith, like monks living in ashrams and temples. Unfortunately, it can take a more violent, destructive turn, as is the case with some sects of fundamentalist cults and religious movements.

People who travel down the authoritarian spiritual path may believe that their belief system is the only right way.

Intellectual spirituality is rooted in the notion that knowledge is power.

People who choose this path enjoy reading about and discussing theories. They find their way to the unknown through learning.

All spiritual disciplines have an intellectual sect or path to enlightenment, and many people drawn to intellectual spirituality combine it with service, devotion, or mystical ritualism.

Service spirituality involves attending to others’ needs. Mastery of the craft comes when an individual genuinely helps others without expecting anything, not even a “thank you.”

It can be a tricky path because many folks don’t recognize that they serve performatively. They feast on the praise showered on them for being “good people.” However, healing through service can only happen in a pure state of generosity without a need or thought of recognition or reward.

Some people are introverted, and others are extroverted. Folks who fall under the former umbrella may appreciate individualized spiritual journeys, whereas those in the latter may seek out socially spiritual events — like group retreats.

If you pick this path, think long and hard about your relationship with dependency. Are you choosing to seek communal salvation because of fear or a genuine desire to live selflessly among others?

Common Mistakes on The Spiritual Journey for Beginners

Ethereal journeys can be exciting and fulfilling — but nobody ever said they’re easy, especially in the beginning. Finding one’s spiritual sea legs can be a bumpy ride!

With that in mind, let’s unpack a handful of mistakes many people make at the start of their spiritual awakening.

Have you ever tried spirituality for a week (or ten) and gave up when miracles didn’t immediately rain down in your lap? Please don’t feel bad; you’re not alone; it always happens. In fact, it’s more common than successfully establishing a mindfulness or spirituality routine.

Remember that devotional work — (both religious and secular) — isn’t a magic bolt that instantaneously ushers “the dream” into your conscious realm. Heck, monks practicing for decades have yet to experience bliss, much less enlightenment.

In other words, it takes time. Lots and lots…and lots of time. So cultivating patience early in your journey is wise.

The benefits of mindfulness (spirituality’s backbone) can sometimes lead to judgment. Bluntly stated, “baby spiritualists” can be “all ego and no insight.”

Many also approach the journey myopically and think: Well, if X worked for me, it can work for anyone. Then, when people fall short of expectations, newly minted “gurus” attribute their failure to some moral failing rooted in laziness and victimhood.

But each life carves a distinctive path in the sands of time and space, and what’s good for the goose isn’t necessarily suitable or feasible for the gander.

It’s also a bad idea to cut people out of your life because they aren’t on the same exact track as you. Like stars, lives have singular trajectories — and judging another’s is rarely an excellent karmic idea.

Bottom line: When it comes to spirituality, worry about yourself — and only yourself.

Spiritual newbies love to search for answers outside of themselves. Sure, the Universe throws people proverbial bones in the form of “signs” every so often, but the work of spirituality is internal.

Forming a conscious bond with the world around you is about learning to recognize your divine spark.

As discussed, novices frequently search for external answers. They also crave external validation, which defeats the purpose of a soulful journey.

Ultimately, it’s best to avoid spiritual competition at all costs. Your quest for meaning, connection, and purpose should never be a status contest.

Another common mistake is conflating personal and professional goal-setting with spirituality. Goal-setting is about what you want your life to look like, materially and professionally. Spirituality is about how you want to feel, see, and experience the world.

Please don’t read us wrong. Goal-setting and spirituality can work in tandem, but they’re different. The former requires external effort and feedback; the latter is an internal process.

Embarking on a spiritual journey for beginners can be disorienting at the start.

Think of it as if you’re a 16th-century explorer. When you leave port, you’re anxious, detached from what you know, nervous, and unsure of what awaits you.

group of ladies in yoga classes spirituality for beginners

You’re out to sea for a long time. Then, one day, you discover a new land; you’re elated and rewarded handsomely. In most ways, a spiritual journey follows that same arc.

A spiritual journey has many potential benefits, including:

  • Experiencing a cosmic-level of love and respect for all living people, animals, and plants, instead of only feeling connected with folks and things with which you’re most familiar and comfortable
  • Moving through experiences with faith, optimism, and joy
  • Being aware of life’s divine nature
  • Getting to know and love yourself unconditionally, even when you mess up
  • Being able to see magic in the ordinary
  • Being aware of the divine grace that helps fuel your life
  • Coping better with stress, anxiety, and depression
  • Restoring a sense of hope and optimism about life

Spirituality for Beginners: 15 Steps for Starting Your Spiritual Journey

Some peoples’ spiritual paths are clear from an early age. The rest of us usually need to put in a little effort to find the road that most resonates with our eternal beings. In some ways, it’s a trial and error process.

However, there are things you can do to prepare and make the journey easier.

The Universe is, at its most basic level, a web of interconnected energy. Living and working in clean, uncluttered places attract healthy, positive vibes and wavelengths to your space and aura.

It’s beneficial to know where you’ve been to figure out where you’re going,

When embarking on a spiritual journey, take stock of the belief system you grew up with or currently subscribe to. Does it serve you? Is it comfortable? Do you practice it because that’s all you’ve ever known, or does it genuinely resonate with you?

A significant part of spiritual journeys is getting to know yourself. Getting it right takes self-compassion , honesty, and self-forgiveness — which isn’t always easy.

As such, you must care for yourself, and developing a self-care routine is wise during this period of your life. Moreover, we can control habits, which adds a bit of stress-lessening stability to a sometimes rocky time.

Before you pick a path, read up on the possibilities. Think about your motivations and what you want to get out of the experience.

Don’t forget to consider the logistics of your life. Try not to pick something that doesn’t fit into your lifestyle. Sure, it’s fine to make some changes — like adding meditation and journaling.

But if you have a nine-to-five job, it’s not practical to pick a path that requires you to live in an ashram for 24 months straight.

You get to captain your spiritual journey and decide who gets to know. If it’s something you want to share with the world, post about it on social media. Start a blog about your journey.

And if you want it to be a personal experience between you and the higher forces, keep it 100% to yourself.

Nature plays a big role in spiritual journeys. After all, it’s the Earthly manifestation of otherworldly forces. Connecting with nature is akin to bonding with universal energy, and it helps during a spiritual transformation.

Spiritual journeys aren’t smooth sailing at all times. The waters can get rough, and you must learn to be kind to yourself to get through it.

Instead of listening to the negative voice in your head, give attention to the positive one. Learn to forgive yourself; understand that everyone messes up, including you — and that’s OK.

Once you’ve adjusted your mental facilities, done some research, and prepped your space for the journey, it’s time to pick a path you want to try.

Don’t worry about not picking right the first time. It happens to loads of people. Remember that this is a time of exploration and discovery, so feel free to try on different things till you find something that fits your soul.

Skepticism is bound to drop by for a visit during your spiritual journey. Do your best to keep an open mind. Some things you try may feel silly and improbable. But give it a shot anyway. Hey, you never know.

Giving everything a chance is another important aspect of a spiritual journey. You probably won’t get much out of the experience if you go through the motions half-heartedly.

So allow yourself to believe in magic and mysticism for a bit. Who knows, maybe there is a scientific explanation for why certain “spiritual” things work, and we just don’t understand it from a practical standpoint yet.

The spiritual market is filled with many aspiring cult leaders, grifters, and various types of scam artists. They prey on peoples’ vulnerabilities, and they’re usually skilled at leaching money from marks. So be careful about the orbits you inhabit.

Having a record of your journey is educational and fun. Think how satisfying it will be to go back a year or two from now and read how far you’ve come.

Rituals are a fun way to enhance the spiritual journey. Plus, they put you in the right frame. If you use candles, however, make sure to be safe.

One of the biggest hurdles some people face on their path to higher consciousness is that they refuse to believe.

But it’s a catch-22 because to perceive extra-sensory forces, you must believe in them. So try to put doubts aside and give yourself to the unknown for the time being.

Journeys can take decades. Heck, some people argue that one’s spiritual journey is never over as there’s always more to experience and learn.

Keeping up a reading and learning habit is the best way to keep your spiritual receptors tuned and receptive.

What Are The 5 Spiritual Paths?

Many paths can teach you how to learn about spirituality. Some people stick to one; others try on several.

The knowledge path is suited for people who gain depth and insight through wisdom and gathering knowledge.

side-view shot of a pretty woman spirituality for beginners

Analytical meditation, contemplation, studying, and journaling are important tools for people on this path. They frequently delve into questions about self-knowledge and the greater good.

The path of devotion is all about surrendering to something greater than yourself. The ultimate goal is to liberate the soul from its ego. Praying, chanting, and using mantras are common.

Meditation is a spiritual path in and of itself. People who go this route usually are interested in connecting with a higher power. They also value stillness and calmness.

Active selflessness defines the path of service. But it can be a tricky road, as practitioners mustn’t focus on their efforts but instead on the needs of others. People who serve for the wrong reasons can find themselves in miserable places.

The energetic path is probably the least discussed and one of the most powerful. It combines several disciplines, including meditation and knowledge. People who go down the energy path typically use rituals.

We hope you found our guide to spirituality helpful. Whatever path you choose, and no matter how long it takes, your spiritual journey will help you have a deeper understanding of yourself and the meaning of your life.

Exploring these different types of meditation can help individuals find the practice that resonates most with them and supports their spiritual journey.

Incorporating Spirituality Into Mindfulness

In my spiritual healing journey, I have found that embracing mindfulness and meditation has been an integral part of incorporating spirituality into my daily life.

Here are four ways I have incorporated spirituality into mindfulness:

  • Setting Intentions: Before starting my mindfulness practice, I set intentions to connect with my inner self and the divine energy around me.
  • Gratitude Practice: I incorporate gratitude into my mindfulness routine, acknowledging the blessings in my life and expressing thankfulness to the universe.
  • Visualization: During meditation, I visualize positive outcomes and manifest my spiritual goals, creating a powerful connection between my thoughts and the spiritual realm.
  • Breath Awareness: Mindfulness meditation allows me to focus on my breath, bringing my awareness to the present moment and fostering a deep spiritual connection within.

Embracing mindfulness and meditation has truly enriched my spiritual journey, allowing me to cultivate a deeper connection with myself and the spiritual world.

Cultivating a Supportive Environment

When embarking on a spiritual healing journey, it’s crucial to cultivate a supportive environment. This involves nurturing positive social connections and fostering uplifting physical surroundings. By prioritizing these aspects, the journey becomes more enriching and fulfilling.

Cultivating a Supportive Environment

Positive Social Connections

To begin cultivating a supportive environment for my spiritual healing journey, I prioritize building positive social connections.

  • Seek Out Like-Minded Individuals: I actively seek out people who share similar spiritual beliefs or are on their own healing journeys. Connecting with them can offer understanding and support.
  • Open Communication: I foster open and honest communication with those around me, expressing my needs and actively listening to theirs. This helps in building trust and empathy.
  • Set Boundaries: I recognize the importance of setting healthy boundaries in my relationships, which allows for a supportive and respectful environment.
  • Engage in Community Activities: Participating in community activities or events that align with my spiritual beliefs can lead to meeting new, supportive individuals.

Building positive social connections is essential for my spiritual healing journey, but nurturing my physical surroundings is equally important for creating a holistic environment for growth and healing.

Nurturing Physical Surroundings

Nurturing my physical surroundings is crucial for creating a supportive environment that complements my spiritual healing journey. I’ve found that decluttering my living space helps declutter my mind, allowing for greater peace and focus during spiritual practices.

I also incorporate elements that bring me joy and calm, such as plants, soothing colors, and meaningful artwork.

Creating a designated space for meditation and reflection has been transformative, as it signals to my mind that it’s time for spiritual connection.

Additionally, I prioritize natural light and fresh air, which uplift my mood and energy. By intentionally cultivating a supportive physical environment, I’m better able to immerse myself in my spiritual healing journey, fostering a sense of harmony and balance in my life.

Practicing Gratitude and Positivity

As a spiritual seeker, I find that practicing gratitude and positivity daily enhances my overall well-being and inner peace. It’s a conscious effort to focus on the good in my life, and it has truly transformed my outlook.

Practicing Gratitude and Positivity

Here are four ways I incorporate gratitude and positivity into my daily spiritual healing journey:

  • Morning Reflection : I start my day by acknowledging three things I’m grateful for, setting a positive tone for the day ahead.
  • Mindful Affirmations : Throughout the day, I repeat affirmations that uplift and inspire me, reinforcing positivity.
  • Acts of Kindness : Engaging in small acts of kindness towards others fosters a sense of gratitude and positivity within myself.
  • Evening Gratitude Journal : Before bed, I jot down moments from the day that brought me joy, cultivating a mindset of appreciation.

These practices have been instrumental in nurturing my spiritual well-being.

Engaging in Energy Cleansing and Balancing

Engaging in energy cleansing and balancing is essential for maintaining spiritual well-being and inner harmony. It involves ridding oneself of negative energies and restoring the natural flow of positive energy within.

Engaging in Energy Cleansing and Balancing

I find that practices like meditation, smudging with sage, and using crystals can be incredibly helpful in this process. Meditation allows me to focus on my inner self and release any negative thoughts or emotions that may be blocking my energy flow.

Smudging with sage helps to purify the energy in my surroundings, while crystals, such as clear quartz or amethyst, can aid in balancing and harmonizing my energy.

By regularly engaging in these practices, I am better able to maintain a sense of calm and balance within myself, which is essential for overall spiritual well-being.

Nurturing Body, Mind, and Spirit

Nurturing Body Mind and Spirit

After focusing on energy cleansing and balancing, it’s important to now address the holistic nurturing of body, mind, and spirit.

  • Physical Nourishment : Engage in regular exercise, eat nourishing foods, and prioritize adequate rest to support your physical well-being.
  • Mental Wellness : Practice mindfulness, meditation, or journaling to cultivate a peaceful and clear state of mind.
  • Emotional Support : Seek out positive social connections, engage in activities that bring you joy, and consider therapy or counseling if needed.
  • Spiritual Growth : Explore practices such as prayer, yoga, or connecting with nature to nurture your spiritual self.

Setting Intentions and Manifesting Growth

To begin manifesting growth on a spiritual healing journey, I find it essential to set clear intentions that align with my deepest aspirations and values. This involves reflecting on what I truly desire in terms of personal healing and spiritual development.

Setting Intentions and Manifesting Growth

By setting specific and meaningful intentions, I can focus my energy and attention on manifesting positive changes in my life.

I believe that it’s important to be intentional about the growth I want to experience, whether it’s cultivating inner peace, deepening my connection to the divine, or finding healing from past wounds.

Setting these intentions allows me to create a roadmap for my spiritual journey and provides a sense of purpose and direction. With clear intentions in place, I can then work on manifesting growth by aligning my thoughts, actions, and beliefs with these heartfelt aspirations.

In embarking on a spiritual healing journey, one must remember that growth is a continuous process, not a destination. As we navigate through the depths of our soul, let us embrace the beauty of introspection and the power of positivity.

With each step we take, let us sow the seeds of intention and manifest a future filled with love, light, and peace. As the ancient proverb goes, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

These are my best tips for beginning your spiritual journey, plus my favorite tools, teachers, and practices to help you create a custom spiritual practice that feels like home.

What Is Spirituality?

Spirituality is a broad concept that encompasses a wide range of beliefs and practices. At its core, spirituality involves a search for meaning and purpose in life, and a connection to something greater than oneself.

This can take many forms, including religious beliefs, meditation, mindfulness, yoga, and more. Ultimately, spirituality is a deeply personal journey that can usher peace, happiness, and fulfillment into your life.

While spirituality is sometimes associated with religion, it doesn’t have to be. Spirituality is a personal and individual experience. It can serve as a compass to guide you toward the very best version of yourself.

Spirituality can help you flow through life’s challenges with more ease, find inner peace, and cultivate a sense of gratitude and compassion. These are the building blocks for manifesting the beautiful life you desire and deserve!

Beginning Your Spiritual Journey

Spirituality can mean different things to different people, but basically, it involves a search for meaning and purpose in life. There are all sorts of different scenarios that can inspire a spiritual awakening:

Benefits of Having a Spiritual Practice

I can tell you firsthand, having a spiritual practice brings so many benefits into your life. Setting out on your spiritual journey will touch every aspect of your life and change the lens through which you see the world.

Inviting spirituality into your life can help you feel more connected to yourself, others, and the world around you. It also illuminates your life purpose, reduces anxiety , and can improve your overall well-being.

Additionally, a spiritual practice can help you develop a greater sense of compassion, gratitude , and forgiveness, which leads to more fulfilling relationships and a deeper sense of inner peace.

10 Tips to Begin Your Spiritual Journey

You can pick and choose from the 10 categories I share below as your next steps ( except for #10 – that one is required for your success).

Do what feels right to you at this moment in time. Your interests will change as you learn and grow more spiritually mature.

1. Set Intentions for Your Spiritual Journey

Before embarking on your spiritual journey, it’s important to set your intentions. This can be as simple as asking yourself what you hope to gain from your spiritual practice.

For example, you may be ready to:

  • Find inner peace
  • Connect with a higher power
  • Strengthen your intuition
  • Gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you
  • Find more meaning in life
  • Reduce stress and detach from drama
  • Break old cycles that don’t support you

When you know exactly what your goals are, it’ll be easier to create a spiritual practice that’s perfect for you. If you feel guided, write about your expectations for your spiritual practice in your manifesting journal .

Once you have a clear intention, you can begin to explore different spiritual practices and find the ones that resonate with you. Remember, your spiritual journey is unique to you, so there’s no right or wrong way to approach it!

Take some time consider what you want from your spiritual practice and journal your thoughts. 💛

2. Start a Daily Meditation Practice

Meditation is such a powerful tool for connecting with your inner self and finding peace. I strongly suggest you try working meditation into your daily routine.

It can help reduce your stress, improve focus and concentration, and increase feelings of happiness and well-being.

Starting a daily meditation practice can sound daunting, but I promise you can do it. Your meditation practice can be as short as 5 minutes per day. Here are the basic steps to meditate:

  • Find a quiet and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed.
  • Sit or lay in any position that’s comfortable
  • Close your eyes
  • Focus on your breath or repeat a spiritual affirmation
  • Allow any thoughts to come and go without judgment

Start with just a few minutes a day and gradually increase the time as you become more comfortable with the practice.

If that sounds like too much, try this instead: take a moment every day to clear your mind for the length of one full cycle of breath: close your eyes, inhale deeply and then exhale for a long as you can. I guarantee you’ll feel more peaceful and relaxed.

One last tip: there are tons of free guided meditations on Insight Timer – you can download the app for free. I listen to sleep stories by Michelle’s Sanctuary or Sleep and Sorcery almost every night.

You can meditate cross-legged, lying down, or anywhere that feels comfortable for you. Pets make wonderful companions during meditation. They’ll meditate with you! 💛

3. Connect with Nature

Do you have a natural connection with animals and the elements ? Lean into that as you explore your spiritual path. Spending time with nature and animals raises your vibration and helps you to heal yourself on all levels.

Connecting with nature can also help you feel more grounded and at home in your world. Take a walk in the park, go for a hike, or simply sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the pnatural world.

Practice mindfulness as you’re spending time in nature by focusing on what you can gather with your 5 senses. Keeping yourself focused on the present will raise your vibration and will open you up to divine guidance.

Breathing fresh air and connecting with nature is a simple yet powerful way to encourage spiritual awareness. Invite your spirit team to be with you as you enjoy your outdoor time. 💛

4. Read Spiritual Books + Teachings

There are so many wonderful spiritual teachers out there for you to choose from. But it’s important for you to find spiritual leaders that speak to your soul.

Recommended Spiritual Teachers

Here are some of the most beloved, modern day spiritual teachers:

  • Esther/Abraham Hicks is my personal favorite. She teaches about the law of attraction , which is a universal principle that tells us we create our own life experiences based on our dominant thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. This is an incredibly empowering concept once you grasp it – understanding the law of attraction has literally changed my life in so many amazing ways. These Abraham Hicks quotes are the perfect place to start.
  • Louise Hay is an inspiration to so many in the spiritual community, myself included. She is best known for her book, You Can Heal Your Life . This book is like a therapy session, I’m telling you! It is so soothing and uplifting because Louise teachings are built on self-love. Her personal story of how she healed herself from cancer is so inspirational (she shares it in the book).
  • Wayne Dyer lived by the philosophy that you should ‘give the world what you want to receive’. His bestselling book, Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life helps you to apply ancient wisdom to the modern world. His energy is loving and kind.

Those are my top 3 spiritual teachers who are perfect when you’re new to your spiritual path. Even though I’ve been teaching and practicing spiritual self-care myself for years, I still prefer the simple, grounded energy of Hicks, Hay, and Dyer.

Other teachers like Deepak Chopra , Eckhart Tolle and Ram Dass are wonderful too, but they’re more philosophical in nature, and I consider them to be more advanced. But everyone is different, so let your own guidance lead the way.

5. Focus on Chakra Healing

You are an energetic being! That’s one basic spiritual truth that you’re obviously already aware of, since you found your way here. Your energetic body has 7 main energy centers known as chakras . Each one is home to certain beliefs and experiences that make you who you are.

By focusing on these energy centers and using techniques reiki, meditation, yoga, and crystals, you can bring yourself healing on all levels.

So now take a look at this list below; which chakra is calling you toward healing and expansion? I have posts on each one, so use your intuition to explore ways to bring balance to the areas where you need the most loving care:

  • Crown – spiritual growth
  • Third Eye – intuition and clarity
  • Throat – authentic self-expression
  • Heart – forgiveness and love
  • Solar Plexus – confidence and self-worth
  • Sacral – passion and creativity
  • Root – belonging and security

Have you ever had a reiki session? As a reiki master myself, I like to describe it as a massage for your soul. Your practitioner will balance your chakras, and share any impressions they receive as they work in your energy field. Reiki healing is both gentle and profound at the same time. So if you can find a skilled practitioner you feel comfortable with, you can work together toward deep healing, awareness, and spiritual connection. 💛

6. Seek Out a Like-Minded Community

Finding a community of like-minded individuals can be a powerful way to support your spiritual journey.

For starters, you’ve already found me! You can always come back to this site whenever you need guidance, uplifting, or comfort. I publish new posts every week to support your path.

You can also look for local meditation groups, yoga classes, reiki shares (I met a lot of beautiful people this way), or other online communities that share your beliefs and values.

Being part of a community can provide a sense of belonging and connection, as well as opportunities to learn from others and share your own experiences. Look for local groups or online forums that align with your spiritual interests and goals, and don’t be afraid to reach out and connect with others!

Yoga class is a great place to connect with other spiritually aware people. Plus, yoga studios often hold workshops and events for you to learn about other spiritual practices. I got my start as a reiki practitioner in a yoga studio! 💛

7. Practice Mindfulness Everyday

Mindfulness is the practice of being present in the moment and fully engaged with your surroundings. It can help you reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate a sense of inner peace.

Many spiritual leaders throughout time have shared the message that a joyful life comes from being focused on the ‘now’. So being more mindful is a simple yet powerful way to invite more spirituality into your life.

Wherever you are, be there totally. Eckhart Tolle

An easy way to incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine is to practice it while you’re doing your everyday tasks. For example, try giving mealtime your full attention from start to finish. Stay focused on what you’re while you’re preparing your meal. Then keep all your awareness on how your food tastes while you’re eating.

Observing yourself while doing small tasks will keep your thoughts anchored to the present, which inspires calm and raises your vibration .

8. Explore Spiritual Healing Tools + Practices

You can pick and choose which spiritual tools and methods work for you. Here are some items to explore that can greatly enhance your spiritual practice:

Reiki , as I mentioned above, is a form of energy healing that balances your chakras and promotes self-awareness. It’s physically and emotionally soothing, and can help to enhance your natural intuition.

Crystals are high vibrational formations that help to amplify your intentions. No matter what you’re focused on manifesting, there is a crystal to support you. These crystals for self-love are the perfect companions for your spiritual journey.

EFT (emotional freedom technique) or tapping , is best for soothing physical pain and discomfort. It’s a way of releasing stuck energy in your body so that you can heal.

Oracle Cards using oracle cards is a fun and easy way to connect with your spirit team and become more self-aware. Here’s a list of my favorite oracle card decks , including the best decks for beginners. You can pull a card for yourself each day as part of your self-care practice. Or, you can follow me on Instagram @thehavenshoppe – I pull a card for my followers every day.

Change In The Wind oracle card from Wisdom of the Oracle deck

I just pulled this card for you: A Change in the Wind. How perfect to begin your spiritual journey! What comes to mind for you as you consider upcoming changes? What would you like to do differently? 💛

Sound Healing is an incredibly soothing way to raise your vibration. You can listen to healing sounds or use a singing bowl to do your own sound healing.

Essential Oils are such powerful tools for your spiritual practice, because there is a powerful connection between your emotions and sense of smell. Here are some of my favorite essential oils for manifesting that will support your intentions beautifully.

Align with Lunar Cycles to feel more connected to intuition and manifesting power. Did you know each phase of the moon can support your intentions? You can read more about each phase in these posts for new moon , waxing moon , full moon , and waning moon .

9. Journal about Your Spiritual Journey

Do you have a manifestation journal? Starting one is the perfect place to begin your spiritual journey. Keeping a journal can be a powerful tool for exploring and reflecting on your spiritual experiences and growth.

You can use your journal to record your thoughts, feelings, and experiences as you explore different paths and practices. This can help you identify patterns, track your progress, and gain insights into your own spiritual growth.

Find your perfect manifestation journal ! ✨

17 Best Manifesting Journals to Attract Your Dreams

You can also use your journal to set intentions, record your dreams, and explore your beliefs and values. Remember, your journal is a personal space for you to explore and express yourself, so don’t worry about spelling, grammar, or structure. Just let your thoughts flow onto the page.

10. Give Yourself Permission to Make Changes

One of the most important aspects of spirituality is the idea that growth and change are not only possible, but necessary.

It’s okay to change your beliefs, practices, and even your path as you continue on your spiritual journey. Giving yourself permission to change and evolve can help you avoid feeling stuck or stagnant in your spiritual practice.

As I’ve said, spirituality is a personal journey and there is no one right way to approach it. Allow yourself the freedom to explore and discover what works best for you.

In addition, you may find yourself outgrowing some relationships, habits, and thought patterns that no longer serve you.

This is perfectly normal, and a beautiful part of your spiritual evolution. Change can be scary, but it’s an important part of the process for you to manifest the upgrades that you deserve.

If you feel guided, you can do a cord cutting ceremony to call your energy home.

What is a Spiritual Journey?

Each of us has a spiritual aspect within, which, at some point, will begin to awaken. The spiritual path calls us to tune into that voice within and allow it to guide us. How this looks will be different for everyone. You may connect with the divine during a walk in nature, while meditating or sitting quietly, or when you notice synchronicities. There are many different approaches you can use for unlocking spirituality within you.

The journey you may face and the questions you have can feel challenging. Life can suddenly feel very different, so working with a professional, such as a spiritual coach, will give you the best support and guidance while you are exploring spirituality. They will hold space for your expansion, help you access a higher power, and help you develop more awareness.

A good coach will be able to hold a higher perspective, helping you to get clearer on who you are, and identifying things that may have been out of your awareness.

How Does a Spiritual Awakening Change Your Life?

A spiritual awakening is often the first step on the spiritual path. There are many ways to know if you are going through a spiritual awakening . It may feel like you are waking up in your own life, or be a time where you feel completely lost.

Going through a spiritual awakening will likely change the way you think about many areas of life. The Practical Spirituality podcast goes into more detail on how a spiritual awakening may look for you, but here are some of the things you may experience:

  • A deeper connection with yourself

  • More awareness of the world around you
  • A stronger idea of your own values and morals
  • A spiritual emergency or dark night of the soul

By exploring and embracing spirituality, we embark on a transformative journey that leads to a deeper understanding of the important questions in life, as well as finding meaning and purpose.

Spirituality provides us with a framework to explore the mysteries of existence, allowing us to connect with something greater than ourselves. It is through this exploration that we begin to understand our place in the universe and develop a broader perspective. Understanding spirituality helps us navigate the complexities of life, providing us with guidance, wisdom, and a sense of inner peace.

In our hectic and fast-paced world, spirituality offers a much-needed refuge. It allows us to slow down, reflect, and find solace in the present moment. Through the exploration of spirituality, we can cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves and others, fostering compassion, love, and empathy.

“Spirituality is a journey of self-discovery, where we uncover the depths of our own being and explore the vastness of the universe. It is a quest for truth, purpose, and inner peace.”

When we embrace spirituality, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and experiences. It invites us to step out of our comfort zones, challenge our limiting beliefs, and expand our consciousness. This exploration can lead to personal growth, transformation, and a greater understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Embarking on a spiritual journey helps us make sense of the world, offering clarity and guidance when faced with difficult decisions and challenges. It provides us with a set of values and principles that help us navigate our way through life, allowing us to live authentically and with integrity.

Moreover, spirituality has a tangible impact on our mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Studies have shown that those who engage in spiritual practices often experience reduced stress, improved overall health, increased resilience, and a greater sense of fulfillment.

The Impact of Spirituality on Our Lives

Exploration of spirituality has a transformative impact on various aspects of our lives:

By understanding ourselves on a deeper level and connecting with something greater, we are able to lead more fulfilling and purposeful lives. Spirituality gives us the tools to navigate the challenges and uncertainties of life with grace and resilience.

Understanding Spirituality

As we continue to explore the depths of spirituality, we discover that it is a vast and ever-evolving journey. It invites us to embrace the unknown, challenge our assumptions, and open our hearts and minds to new possibilities. The impact of spirituality extends far beyond our personal lives, influencing the way we interact with others, the choices we make, and the legacy we leave behind.

What is Spirituality?

Spirituality is a profound exploration of the human experience, a journey that goes beyond the physical realm into the depths of our souls. It is a deeply personal and individual pursuit, driven by the innate human desire to seek meaning and purpose in life. At its core, spirituality is about connecting with something greater than ourselves and understanding our place in the grand tapestry of existence.

When we embark on a spiritual path, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities, where we can delve into the mysteries of our own being and forge a deeper connection with the world around us. Spirituality is not confined to religious beliefs or rituals; it encompasses a wide range of practices and perspectives. For some, spirituality is synonymous with religion, a way to connect with a higher power and find solace in the teachings of their faith. For others, it is an exploration of the self, a journey of self-discovery and understanding.

One of the central aspects of spirituality is the quest for meaning and purpose. We seek answers to fundamental questions about the nature of existence, the meaning of life, and our own place in the universe. Through this pursuit, we develop a sense of purpose that guides our actions, choices, and relationships.

Spirituality also encompasses our connectedness, both to ourselves and to others. It is about recognizing the inherent interconnectedness of all things and fostering a sense of unity and compassion. When we embrace spirituality, we cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves, our emotions, and our desires. This self-awareness allows us to navigate life with greater clarity and intention, leading to a more fulfilling and authentic existence.

“Spirituality is not about becoming perfect. It’s about embracing our imperfections and recognizing the beauty in our vulnerability.”

Through spiritual practices such as meditation, mindfulness, contemplation, and self-reflection, we develop a deeper sense of self-awareness and self-acceptance. This, in turn, enables us to forge stronger connections with others, fostering empathy, compassion, and love. In a world where we often feel disconnected and isolated, spirituality provides a path towards genuine human connection and a sense of belonging.

By exploring spirituality, we embark on a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and transformation. It is a lifelong process, an ongoing commitment to delve deeper into the mysteries of our existence and expand our consciousness. Spirituality invites us to transcend the limitations of our ego and embrace the vastness of our true nature.

Embracing spirituality enables us to live with greater authenticity, integrity, and purpose. It empowers us to navigate the challenges of life with resilience and grace, finding solace in our connection to something greater than ourselves. Whether it is through religious practices, meditation, contemplation, or acts of service, spirituality offers a path towards profound self-realization, inner peace, and a deep sense of fulfillment.

The Key Elements of Spirituality

What is Spirituality?

The Elements of Spirituality

In our journey towards spirituality, three essential elements play a profound role in deepening our connection with ourselves, others, and the universe: connection, love, and faith. These elements elevate our spiritual experience, enabling us to transcend the ordinary and embrace a more meaningful existence.

The Power of Connection

Connection lies at the heart of spirituality. It is the recognition that everything in the universe is interconnected, and we are part of a greater whole. When we cultivate a sense of connection, we acknowledge the divine presence within ourselves and others, fostering empathy, compassion, and unity. By nurturing meaningful connections, we tap into a wellspring of love and understanding, enriching our spiritual journey.

The Transformative Force of Love

Love is an all-encompassing force that transcends boundaries and unifies beings across time and space. Love is the language of the soul, expressing our deepest emotions and forging profound connections. When we embrace love as a spiritual element, we cultivate kindness, forgiveness, and acceptance. Love allows us to see the divine essence in every being, fostering harmony within ourselves and within the world.

Embracing the Power of Faith

Faith fuels our spiritual journey, guiding us through moments of uncertainty and doubt. It is the unwavering belief in something greater than ourselves, in a divine intelligence that orchestrates the tapestry of existence. Faith grants us strength, courage, and resilience in the face of challenges, providing solace and assurance along the path. When we have faith, we surrender to the flow of life, knowing that we are held and supported by a higher power.

“Connection, love, and faith are the pillars that support our spiritual growth. They guide us towards a deeper understanding of ourselves, others, and the mysteries of the universe.”

Bringing these elements together in our spiritual practice strengthens our bond with the divine, deepens our self-awareness, and nurtures our relationships. Let us embrace connection, love, and faith as the building blocks of our spiritual transformation.

Now, let us visualize the essence of these elements with an image that embodies the beauty and profound connection found in the world around us:

Starting a spiritual journey is an invitation to explore the depths of our inner selves and embark on a quest for spiritual growth and enlightenment. It is an opportunity to awaken our consciousness and transcend beyond the limitations of the physical world.

Embracing a spiritual journey is a rewarding endeavor that can lead to a profound transformation. It is a path that invites us to peel back the layers of conditioning, societal norms, and limiting beliefs, allowing us to connect with our authentic selves and experience the expansiveness of our true nature.

A spiritual journey is not always smooth sailing. It requires us to confront our fears, face our shadows, and embrace the unknown. It is through these challenges that we can experience profound growth and self-discovery. As we navigate the twists and turns of this journey, we begin to unravel the layers of our being, allowing our true essence to shine through.

A spiritual journey is not a linear process. It is a continuous exploration of self, a never-ending quest for deeper understanding, and a constant evolution of consciousness. It is about acknowledging that we are all interconnected and part of something greater than ourselves.

Through a spiritual journey, we can expand our awareness, cultivate presence, and develop a profound sense of gratitude for the beauty and interconnectedness of life. It is through this process that we can experience spiritual growth and achieve a deeper connection with the divine.

Types of Spirituality

In our spiritual journey, we encounter various paths and approaches that allow us to explore and connect with the divine. Each type of spirituality offers a unique perspective and focuses on different aspects of our spiritual growth. Here, we will delve into the different types of spirituality, including mystical spirituality, authoritarian spirituality, intellectual spirituality, service spirituality, and social spirituality.

Mystical Spirituality

“The mystic is one who has embraced the cosmic and intuitive aspects of existence.”

In mystical spirituality, we delve into the depths of the unknown, seeking connection and understanding beyond the physical realm. It is a path of transcendence, inviting us to explore our cosmic consciousness and tap into our intuitive insight. Through practices such as meditation, visualization, and energy work, we embark on a journey to discover the boundless mysteries of the universe and our place within it.

Authoritarian Spirituality

“The devotee finds solace and guidance in a hierarchical structure.”

Authoritarian spirituality revolves around surrendering to a prescribed set of beliefs and practices within a hierarchical structure. It involves wholeheartedly devoting oneself to a higher power, a guru, or a religious institution. By following the guidance provided by these sources, practitioners experience a sense of security, guidance, and spiritual fulfillment.

Intellectual Spirituality

“The seeker finds solace and wisdom through knowledge and learning.”

Intellectual spirituality is rooted in the pursuit of knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. It involves extensive study, contemplation, and reflection on sacred texts, philosophical teachings, and spiritual concepts. By engaging the intellect and expanding our understanding, we deepen our connection with the divine and unravel the profound truths that lie within.

Service Spirituality

“The servant of humanity expresses spirituality through acts of compassion and kindness.”

Service spirituality is centered around attending to the needs of others and making a positive impact on the world. By selflessly offering our time, talents, and resources to uplift and support others, we embody the profound essence of spirituality. It is through acts of compassion, love, and service that we experience a deep sense of connection, purpose, and fulfillment.

Social Spirituality

“The community-oriented seeker finds spiritual connection in communal experiences.”

Social spirituality places emphasis on communal experiences and the connections we forge with others on our spiritual journey. It involves participating in group rituals, joining spiritual communities, and engaging in collective practices that foster a sense of unity and belonging. By sharing our spiritual experiences, insights, and wisdom with others, we cultivate a vibrant and supportive spiritual network.

Each type of spirituality offers a distinct path for spiritual seekers to explore and discover their own truth. By understanding the different types of spirituality, we can broaden our perspective, embrace diversity, and find resonance with the approach that aligns with our unique spiritual journey.

Common Mistakes on the Spiritual Journey for Beginners

Embarking on a spiritual journey is an exciting and transformative experience. However, beginners often stumble upon common mistakes that hinder their progress and prevent them from fully embracing spirituality. It is important to be aware of these pitfalls so that we can navigate our journey with grace and intention. Let us explore some of the most common mistakes made by beginners:

  • Lack of patience: The spiritual path requires time, dedication, and patience. It is a continuous journey of self-discovery and growth. Rushing the process or expecting instant results can hinder our progress. Embracing patience allows us to fully experience and integrate the lessons along the way.
  • Engaging in enlightenment arrogance: While pursuing spirituality, it is essential to remain humble and open-minded. Arrogance can prevent us from truly connecting with others and understanding diverse perspectives. Embracing humility helps us create space for growth and authentic connections.
  • Searching for external answers: One of the common mistakes beginners make is seeking external validation or relying solely on external sources for answers. True spiritual growth comes from within. It is essential to trust our intuition and inner wisdom as we navigate our spiritual journey.

Through spirituality, we discover a profound sense of contentment. We realize that true happiness does not come from external circumstances but from within ourselves. By focusing on our inner journey, we develop a lasting sense of contentment that is not reliant on external factors.

7 steps to starting your spiritual journey

We all want to find our purpose in life.

But what is that purpose?

And how do we find it?

The answer lies within each one of us.

Our spiritual journey is the process of discovering our true selves and our true purpose in life.

The journey is long and arduous, but it’s worth it in the end.

If you’re looking to start your own spiritual journey, here are seven steps that will help you get started.

1. Know what you’re looking for in a spiritual path

We all have different needs, and that’s why it’s important to know what you’re looking for in a spiritual path.

Are you looking for guidance?

Are you looking to connect with your higher self?

What do you want to achieve?

Do you have a specific question that you’re hoping to find an answer to?

Some people are looking for ways of attracting anything into their lives.

For others, it’s more about connecting with their angels and spiritual guides.

No matter what you’re looking for, it’s important to be clear about your intentions.

Your aim and purpose will probably change over time, and that’s okay, but it’s good to have a starting point.

2. Go at your own pace

When you first start your spiritual journey, it’s natural to be overwhelmed and somewhat inundated by the amount of information available.

You might feel like you need to read all the books, listen to all the podcasts, and watch all the videos.

But you don’t.

My advice is to take it one step at a time and go at your own pace.

There’s no need to rush, and you’ll get more out of it if you take things slowly and calmly.

Go slowly but deeply.

3. Learn more about different spiritual traditions

One of the best ways to learn more about spirituality is to study different spiritual practices.

There are so many different paths to choose from, and each one has something unique to offer.

By learning about different traditions, you’ll start to get a sense of what resonates with you.

You might find that you’re drawn to certain practices, or you might feel a connection with certain philosophies.

Allow yourself to be open to all possibilities, and don’t limit yourself to one tradition.

4. Do deep inner work

Many people start their spiritual journey and go from one spiritual practice to another.

While it’s great to familiarise yourself with different practices, you can’t neglect to do the deep inner work .

You have to try and approach spirituality from a none materialistic mindset because when we do this, we can deeply transform our lives for the better.

Once you’ve learned a bit more about different spiritual traditions, such as watching YouTube videos, reading articles, visiting temples/churches, etc., it’s time to really commit to the journey.

What practice speaks to you the most?

Does it align with the purpose of your journey?

Identify what that is and stick to it, whether it’s daily meditation, yoga, prayers, etc.

Deep inner work takes a lot of time and energy, but it’s necessary if you want to make progress on your spiritual journey.

5. Connect with like-minded people

The spiritual journey is personal to you, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.

One of the best ways to progress on your journey is to connect with like-minded people.

These kindred spirits will help to support and encourage you on your path.

You might find them in your local community, or you might connect with them online.

When you’re around people who understand what you’re going through, it makes the journey that much easier.

6. Be patient

The spiritual journey is not always easy, and there will be times when you feel like you’re not making any progress.

It’s important to be patient and to trust the process.

Remember, it’s not a race.

There’s no need to compare yourself to others or to try and force things to happen.

Allow yourself the time and space to grow at your own pace.

7. Live with purpose and intention

One of the best ways to live a spiritual life is to do so with purpose and intention.

This means being mindful of your thoughts, words, and actions.

When you’re living with purpose, you’ll be more connected to yourself and the world around you.

You’ll be more in tune with your intuition , and you’ll start to see the synchronicities happening all around you.

We are all connected, and when we live with intention, we can start to see that more clearly.

Tips for integrating spirituality into your everyday life

1. make time for daily spiritual practices.

It’s important to make time for your spiritual practice, even if it’s just 10-15 minutes each day.

This is your time to connect with yourself and the universe.

It’s a time to focus on your breath, meditate, or do whatever else it is that helps you connect with your higher self.

2. Surround yourself with positive people and things

When you surround yourself with positive things, it has a ripple effect on your life.

This means surrounding yourself with people who are supportive of your spiritual journey, as well as things like positive affirmations , inspiring quotes, and/or photos that make you feel happy and peaceful.

Many people love creating spiritual morning routines because it’s a way of starting your day off on the right foot.

When you fill your life with positive things, it’s easier to maintain a positive outlook and remember why you’re on this journey in the first place.

3. Be grateful for everything

The 4 Stages of a Healing Journey

There are four stages of the healing journey:

Awakening  – Asking critical questions to find out “who you are”, or more correctly “What do I want?” and “Why?”. In many ways, you are becoming more construct-aware of Reality.

Healing  – The system you grew up in wasn’t healthy for your being or allowing your complete being to exist. Now you will reintegrate the parts of yourself that were left behind.

Rebirth  – You are rebuilding yourself based on what you’ve learned during your healing. You are now stronger, more whole, and have earned confidence from going through the life journey you’ve experienced.

Embodiment  – Now you have more practical wisdom that you will implement in your life and move forward with greater understanding of your Self and the World.

Why is the Healing Journey Important?

The Healing Journey is important because it brings more spiritual awareness to the individual’s life, allowing for emotional and mental growth. This journey allows you to move forward from the past, while letting the past be done with you.

By going through this journey we become more egoically mature, stronger, more whole, due to earned confidence. We also learn new ways to cope with our stresses and having a better inner point of reference to view the situations life subjects us to.

Why is the Healing Journey Important

How Do I Start My Healing Journey?

Here are tips on how to start your healing journey:

Recognize The Need For Healing –  Admitting that you have a problem is always the first step. You can’t do this is you are always distracting yourself from your emotions, thoughts, and inner pain. This can be called “denial” and it’s not a strength—it’s a weaknesses. Vulnerability is strength.

Seek Support –  The healing journey is a lonely path, but it doesn’t always have to be. Talk to trusted friends, therapists, or family members.

Practice Self-Care –  You need a stable environment without negative and abuse factors in order to practice self-care. This gives your psyche a place to process any pain, both actively and passively. Take the time to take care of yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This involves eating healthy foods, getting fresh air, adequate sleep, meditation, and so on.

Set Realistic Goals –  Don’t expect to heal overnight, you can’t rush the process. But set milestones to aim for and take pride in every step you take towards your goals.

Practice Forgiveness –  Forgive yourself for your own mistakes, you didn’t know any better anyways and that’s not your fault. You can also try forgiving others who have hurt you. This way you don’t hang onto anger and resentment that arrests your spiritual and emotional development.

Embrace Your Emotions –  It’s important that you allows yourself feel all of your emotions so you can digest and process the sadness, anger, frustration, and fear. It’s by acknowledging your emotions and allowing yourself to observe them until they naturally pass, that you process and heal.

Taking Action –  Seek help, join a support group, engage in self-care, pursue your goals, consult your inner resources, and keep moving forward while giving yourself the time to pause and process the past so you can resume moving forward.

What is the Sexual Healing Journey?

The sexual healing journey is a process aimed at overcoming the internal struggles and challenges related to one’s own sexuality. This sexual healing can help overcome traumas, insecurities, and other negative beliefs that we have tied to our sexuality, in order to attain a more fulfilling sex life.

Many times this involves healing and overcoming the internal struggles related to religious conditioning, cultural attitudes, past experiences, and external expectations. Through sexual healing you will break down these barriers and learn to embrace a healthy sexuality.

The following are tips for your sexual healing journey:

Acknowledge the trauma.  Admitting that you’ve gone through a distressing event and it has left you hurt is crucial. You can’t fix a problem until you admit that you have a problem.

Seek support.  This helps you feel less alone while also being provided much needed support to help cope with the trauma.

Practice self-care.  This involves getting sleep, eating well, exercise, and so on.

Find meaning.  By giving your suffering meaning, you are able to empower yourself by developing a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.

Learn from a trusted resource.  If you are interested in exploring your sexuality, check out the shadow play blog  here .

What Are Things You Do On Your Healing Journey

What Are Things You Do On Your Healing Journey?

Here are things to do on your healing journey:

Set Boundaries –  By establishing boundaries you are able to protect your emotional and spiritual well-being. This includes saying no to what doesn’t serve you, cutting off toxic people from your life, staying away from awful situations, and giving time to yourself when you need it.

Find Your Inner Strength –  All inner journeys demand perserverance and resilience. Taking the time to collect yourself and gathering your inner resources can help you face the challenges you will face on your healing journey.

Embrace gratitude.  Gratitude is how you cultivate a sense of abundance and positivity in your life. In fact, make a list of 100 things you feel make life worth living, you may be surprised at what are the things you appreciate about life.

Learn new coping skills.  Examples of coping skills for self-soothing include mindfulness, journaling, creative expression, etc.

Embrace spirituality –  By connecting to a higher power through spiritual practices help cultivate an inner sense of peace. It’s up to you to find the practices that best resonate with you.

How is Losing Weight a Healing Journey

Here are three aspects for losing weight a healing journey:

Physical Healing –  Losing weight is its own physical healing. This is because reducing weight can improve health, lower blood pressure, improve heart health, etc. On top of this, you can also improve your own body image and self-confidence, while cultivating a healthier lifestyle.

Emotional Healing –  Weight loss can also be a journey of emotional healing. This is because a lot of emotional stress can come from feeling overweight. By improving your relationship with food you will gain a better sense of self-control.

Spiritual Healing –  By holding a healthy weight you may gain a sense of inner peace, balance, and harmony. This is because you have earned an accurate assessment of how people didn’t look at you so much differently with a few pounds on you.

What is The Healing Journey Through Grief

What is The Healing Journey Through Grief?

Grief is a very human experience that happens after a huge loss, such as the end of a relationship, the death of a loved one, or a major life change.

Understand that grieving is complicated and there is no “right” way to grieve.

It is through grieving that we work through our feelings of loss and find meaning in our losses and suffering.

The Stages of Grief

The following are the stages of grief:

These stages are not in any specific order, but they are what you can expect to experience during your healing journey through grief.

The following are tips for your healing journey through grief:

Move forward.  When the time is right, you will be reborn and your bones with be stronger than before. But don’t attempt to move forward too soon. Just because you are done with the past doesn’t mean it’s done with you. Give yourself all the time you need and be patient with yourself.

How Long Does A Healing Journey Last?

The length of a healing journey varies from person to person. Depending on how bad is the hurt, some wounds can be healed quickly while others can take months or even years. There is no definite timeline because traumas are different and inner constitutions are different.

Understand that this will not be a straightforward process. There are hormonal and chemical processes in your body that are going against you. It’s okay to have setbacks, but your healing demands you move forward and let go of what no longer serves you.

The following are factors that affect how long a healing journey lasts:

The Severity of the Wound  is one of the more significant factors that impact the length of recovery. Extreme trauma and abuse will take longer than anything closer to the “white lie” side of the betrayal spectrum.

The Type of Wound  refers to whether the damage is physical, emotional, or spiritual. Emotional wounds make you feel bad about yourself. Spiritual wounds make you feel bad about humanity and the world.

The Individual’s Support System  can help speed up the healing process depending how well integrated and prepared both you and your wounded healer are.

The Individual’s WIllingness to Heal  is the most important factor because you can’t heal until you admit that you need healing.

How To Start A Spiritual Healing Journey Within Yourself

The following are steps on how to start a spiritual healing journey within yourself:

Connect with your inner self.  This means taking time to introspect and reflect on your inner thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. You can explore these deeper parts of yourself via journaling, meditating, etc.

Explore your beliefs and values.  By exploring your beliefs and values, you can reevaluate and make the changes necessary to connect to a higher power.

Practice mindfulness.  Being present and fully in the moment helps build self-awareness and awareness of the world around you. Breathwork, meditation, and activities like this help cultivate mindfulness.

Find a spiritual practice.  By connecting to a higer power through spiritual practices help cultivate an inner sense of peace. It’s up to you to find the practices that best resonate with you.

Seek out a community.  Connecting with others is a powerful way to move forward on your spiritual healing journey. Consider communities through spiritual groups, religious institutions, and other online communities.

Let go of negativity.  Negativity prevents you from connecting with a higher power. This is why you want to practice forgiveness, focus on the positives, and release resentment.

5 Steps to Launch Your Spiritual Journey, According to Mindvalley Experts

  • June 16, 2023

Woman on a spiritual journey on a mountain, smiling with her arms out

In a world that’s constantly changing, life can often feel overwhelming and purposeless. You may find yourself questioning your place in the grand scheme of things or yearning for a deeper connection with the world around you.

But what if the answers you seek lie within you, waiting to be discovered on a transformative spiritual journey?

As the name suggests, it’s a voyage into the deepest corners of your being. And it’s not just about seeking divine connection but also about fostering holistic personal growth.

Every spiritual journey is an invitation to find purpose in the chaos, peace in the tumult, and wisdom in the ordinary. It’s a journey home—a return to the essence of who you truly are.

What Is a Spiritual Journey?

At its heart, a spiritual journey is like an intimate expedition—a personal adventure where you dive deep into understanding and connecting with your inner self. And the ultimate goal? To achieve a profound sense of your spiritual essence.

This kind of exploration often paves the way for a closer bond with a higher power, the universe, your higher self , or whatever embodies the ultimate truth in your belief system.

With that in mind, the meaning of “spiritual journey” is unique for everyone. It’s typically drawn from their personal ideas, experiences, and desires.

For example, here’s how some renowned Mindvalley experts view a spiritual journey:

  • Neale Donald Walsch , the author of the renowned Conversations With God series and trainer of Mindvalley’s Awaken the Species Quest, sees spiritualism as a heart-to-heart conversation. It’s a private chat between you and your divine essence.
  • Ken Wilber , a philosopher and trainer of Mindvalley’s The Integral Theory Quest, describes it as like a metamorphosis. It guides you through various stages of consciousness until you achieve a harmonious blend of all of life’s aspects.
  • Mahatria Ra , a spiritual leader and trainer of Mindvalley’s A Journey to Infinitheism Quest, believes it to be a pursuit of boundless spiritual and material abundance.

Your spiritual journey can morph into different shapes, from a quest for self-discovery or a search for life’s meaning to a pursuit of spiritual enlightenment or even a path to healing. In fact, a Pew Research Center study tells us that 49% of American adults say they’ve had a religious or mystical experience—that is, defining moments in their spiritual journey.

No matter its form, the spiritual journey offers a transformative pathway to understanding your true nature and purpose in this vast universe. It brings you face-to-face with your deepest fears and highest hopes.

What Happens On a Spiritual Journey?

Your spiritual journey unfolds in unique, often unexpected ways.

Initially, it could start with a surge of self-awareness, illuminating the parts of you previously hidden in the shadows. Or you could start noticing signs from the Universe . And as a result, you may begin to understand your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors more deeply, making sense of how they influence your relationships and experiences.

To illustrate, let’s consider the spiritual journey examples of notable figures like Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Teresa. Their journeys started with an internal quest—a longing for truth and service—and gradually radiated outward, impacting millions.

In the same vein, your spiritual journey may ignite a spark within you that eventually lights up the world around you.

Once you understand what’s going on, the purpose of all of it, the divine process, you take part in it in a brand new way… You see every golden moment of now as an opportunity to recreate yourself anew in the next grandest version of the greatest vision you ever held about who you are. — Neale Donald Walsch, trainer of Mindvalley’s Awaken the Species Quest

Research indicates that spiritual experiences are not uncommon, either. Specifically, a study published in the Journal for Scientific Study of Religion found that nearly half of the participants reported having a spiritual experience, such as a sense of deep interconnectedness or unity with the universe.

In essence, embarking on a spiritual journey is like turning the pages of a book—your own personal story—that’s been waiting to be read. You learn, you grow, and you transform.

Man looking up with his eyes closed and smiling as he embarks on his spiritual journey

The Different Stages of Your Spiritual Journey

Taking a close look at the spiritual journey, you might find it’s a bit like solving a maze. It becomes less daunting if it’s broken down into clear stages.

These stages of spiritual development —awakening, exploration, and enlightenment—are steps on your path that each offer unique experiences and insights.

Actually, moving through these levels is what we call the process of growing up, because that’s what humans do. Virtually from the moment of conception, human beings grow, develop, and evolve. — Ken Wilber, trainer of Mindvalley’s The Integral Life Quest

Now let’s take a closer look at the breakdown:

  • Awakening. This is the initial stage where you might feel a sudden jolt, a stirring in your soul that nudges you to start asking life’s big questions. It’s akin to Neo in The Matrix realizing there’s a reality beyond his daily existence.
  • Exploration. As the name suggests, this stage is all about venturing into the unknown territories of your inner self. It’s like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole, full of curiosity and bewilderment. Here, you explore spirituality —the different practices, philosophies, and teachings—and find one that resonates most with your spirit.
  • Enlightenment. The final stage is about reaching a state of profound understanding and acceptance. Picture it like “Avatar Aang mastering all the elements”—you feel deeply connected to everything around you. But remember, reaching this stage doesn’t mean it’s the end, but rather a continuous process of growth and learning.

“ There are no small changes in life ,” says Mahatria in his Mindvalley Quest. “ Every small change, in the long run, is a monumental transformation .”

And seeing these spiritual journey stages laid out can give you a roadmap for your own transformative adventure. It helps you see where you’re going and reminds you to enjoy it, not just rush to the end.

After all, as they say, the journey matters more than the destination.

How to Start Your Spiritual Journey

Let’s face it, the spiritual journey for beginners can be exciting but also a little overwhelming. It can even be that way for those who’ve walked the path before.

Where do you start? Which path do you take? And how do you navigate this uncharted terrain?

No matter where you are spiritually, this may just be the compass you need. It’ll help equip you with practical, actionable steps to embark on this epic quest.

Here’s a simple guide on how to start your spiritual journey:

1. Set your intentions

Like preparing for a marathon, the first step is to establish your goals. This means identifying what you hope to achieve or discover.

Are you seeking to understand spirituality versus religion ? Are you looking for inner peace, a deeper understanding of your life purpose, or perhaps a closer connection with a higher power? Maybe you’re looking for answers to life’s big questions or seeking to develop qualities like compassion, wisdom, or patience.

By determining your intentions, you create a baseline for your progress. And as you navigate your spiritual journey, you can reflect on these intentions, reminding yourself of why you started and what you’re striving for.

Insights from Mahatria Ra: “ Everything in life need not be done for an ultimate reward. Sometimes getting your life right itself is a reward in itself. But even if you want motivation for this, let me tell you this: The greatest setback in life is to fall in your own eyes, and the greatest pride in life is to grow in your own eyes .”

2. Start meditating

Think of meditation as your guiding compass, steering you through the labyrinth of your inner world. It’s a practice that facilitates quiet introspection, self-discovery, and a deeper connection with your inner self.

Starting a meditation practice can seem like a lot, especially if you’ve never done it before. But understand that it’s not about achieving a state of perfect tranquility; it’s about observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

You can begin with just a few minutes each day, creating a quiet space for yourself where you can focus on your breath or a simple mantra.

And as you grow more comfortable, you might want to extend the duration of your practice or explore different meditation techniques, like mindfulness, transcendental, or loving-kindness meditation.

Insights from Mahatria Ra: “ Experience this engulfing peace for some more time, and come out only when you feel like coming out. You plus your faith are such a miraculous combination. May this journey lead you higher, deeper, and beyond .”

3. Read and learn

Consider books about spirituality and personal growth as your survival manuals on this spiritual expedition. From ancient scriptures to contemporary bestsellers, these resources are packed with valuable insights, thought-provoking exercises, and practical advice that can illuminate your path.

Many Mindvalley trainers have written personal development books that delve into such spirituality. Here are a few you could look into:

  • Conversations With God by Neale Donald Walsch
  • A Brief History of Everything by Ken Wilber
  • Most and More by Mahatria Ra
  • The Buddha and the Badass by Vishen Lakhiani
  • Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy by Sadhguru

Keep in mind, it’s not about gathering heaps of information but finding the wisdom that truly speaks to your journey. So take moments to ponder these ideas, see how they fit with your experiences, and notice their influence on your perspective.

Engaging in this kind of intentional learning can make the difference between merely reading about spirituality and truly living it.

Insights from Ken Wilber: “ Consciousness is a spectrum, a rainbow of many different colored bands and different approaches to consciousness. And the therapy and self-improvement approaches, in general, had each focused on one of these bands, and if we wanted to understand consciousness itself, our own reality—understand that fully—then we needed to include all of those approaches, all of those paradigms .”

4. Find a mentor

Just as Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings had Gandalf provide invaluable counsel and support, a mentor can serve a similar role in your spiritual quest. Research also shows that those with mentors experience higher levels of personal growth, self-efficacy, and satisfaction than those without.

And your “Gandalf” could be anyone—a spiritual teacher, a trusted friend, or even a family member—who has a profound understanding of the spiritual terrain.

They’ve journeyed through the ups and downs, faced challenges, and emerged enlightened. Their wisdom, therefore, can be a beacon for you, illuminating your path and making the journey feel less overwhelming.

Insights from Neale Donald Walsch: “ The purpose of relationships is not to have another who might complete you, but to have another with whom you might share your completeness .”

5. Maintain a spiritual diary

This diary is more than a mere journal—it’s a tangible reflection of your inner explorations, and it plays a vital role in your spiritual progression.

As you jot down your experiences, thoughts, and feelings, you’re essentially laying down a trail of breadcrumbs. These can serve as important markers, helping you track how far you’ve come and illuminating patterns you might not have otherwise noticed.

Writing regularly can foster mindfulness and enhance self-awareness, acting as a mirror for your thoughts and emotions. It can also help you articulate and solidify your understandings, offering a safe space to question, contemplate, and celebrate your spiritual journey.

Finally, this spiritual diary can act as a tool for reflection, allowing you to revisit and contemplate past entries, recognize your growth, and draw inspiration for the future.

Insights from Mahatria Ra: “ The simple steps of loving yourself, celebrating yourself, cherishing your uniqueness, looking forward to the future, and believing the future is going to be infinitely greater than your entire past .”

Unfold the Universe Within

A spiritual journey is a deeply personal odyssey into one’s inner self—a quest for understanding, connection, and a profound realization of one’s spiritual essence. Its importance cannot be overstated; after all, it fosters personal growth and transformation as well as builds bridges of empathy and compassion that connect us all.

Now that you’ve uncovered the what, why, and how of a spiritual journey, the real adventure begins—your adventure. And on this voyage, Mindvalley can be your trusted companion, your Samwise to your Frodo.

Here, you don’t just learn; you learn from the best—the likes of Neale Donald Walsch , Ken Wilber , and Mahatria Ra . They’ve traversed their own spiritual journeys and are now here to guide you on yours.

Why not get a taste of this transformative experience? Sign up for a free Mindvalley account and get access to the initial lessons of their quests.

Remember, the beauty of a spiritual journey isn’t just about the destination. It’s also about every single step you take toward it.

It’s like Mahatria says, “ Every small change held long enough creates humongous possibilities in you. ” And this small change on this adventure brings you one step closer to your true, magnificent self.

Welcome in.

How to start your healing journey: unveiling the path to healing.

' src=

A healing journey is a holistic, integrative process of self-care and transformation that allows you to address wounds physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

This journey is a profoundly personal path of reconnecting with your authentic self, processing traumas, releasing baggage, cultivating self-love and inner wisdom, and stepping into your highest potential. While the destination may be elusive, the healing process is ultimately about the journey.

When we think of healing, we often imagine the body’s miraculous ability to mend cuts, heal illness, and recover from injury. However, healing, in a broader sense, goes beyond just the physical.

It is a multi-dimensional phenomenon encompassing mental, emotional, and spiritual renewal. True healing integrates all aspects of our being because we are complex creatures with a spectrum of needs and wounds.

Embarking on a dedicated healing journey can allow you to resolve deep-seated pain, thought patterns, and behaviors over time through mindful introspection and focused self-care practices. This process aims to bring alignment back to your body, mind, and spirit.

It enables you to address current struggles while also uncovering and releasing old traumas, grief, limiting beliefs, and unhealthy conditioning that may be weighing you down subconsciously.

While healing modalities like therapy, meditation, yoga, and other holistic practices are invaluable allies on the journey, your courage, trust, and intuitive inner wisdom remain your strongest navigators.

By looking inward, listening deeply, and being willing to change, you open the door to profound transformation and wholeness. When you make inner work a consistent practice, you will find that healing is not a finite destination but a continuous process of self-discovery, restoration, and growth.

This comprehensive guide (How to Start Your Healing Journey) aims to help you understand the multilayered nature of the healing journey while offering techniques, insights, and inspiration to start your unique path of self-care and empowerment.

Let us explore the key phases of preparation, self-inquiry, and spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical renewal that can gradually transmute your pain into wisdom and wholeness. When you view life as an opportunity for healing, your perceptions and possibilities open exponentially. The journey begins within.

Self-Reflection and Preparation

Before diving into the nuts and bolts of your healing journey, it is wise to start with self-reflection and intentional preparation. Doing the inner work to assess where you currently are and clarify your goals, intentions, and level of commitment will lay the foundation for deep and lasting transformation.

Reflect on Areas Needing Healing

Set aside quality time for self-inquiry through journaling, meditation , and quiet contemplation of your mental, emotional, and physical state. What feelings or issues keep bubbling to the surface?

Are you dealing with unresolved grief, trauma , destructive habits, or detrimental thought patterns? Does anxiety, depression, or physical pain frequently weigh you down? Listen and validate what your soul is trying to tell you.

To gain clarity, you may find it helpful to work with a therapist, counselor, life coach, or other guide who can provide perspective and support. Confiding in a close friend or family member can also be illuminating.

Approach this self-reflection with radical self-honesty, empathy, and absolutely no judgment. The idea is to take an objective inventory of what requires healing in your life right now.

Assess Your Readiness and Commitment

Next, gauge your motivation and dedication to doing this journey’s deep inner work and necessary outer labor. Healing is a continuous, lifelong process requiring consistent care and effort.

Are you willing to devote time daily to practices like meditation, journaling, therapy , exercise, and self-care? Are you ready to change thought patterns, behaviors, habits, and relationships as needed?

It is crucial to release unrealistic expectations of a quick fix or overnight cure. Remember that challenges, setbacks, and complicated emotions will arise. However, the gift is that your trials, pains, and struggles often contain the seeds of profound awakening and transformation if you embrace them with courage and mindfulness.

Healing Modalities - How to Start Your Healing Journey

Set Clear Intentions and Define Your Goals

Get centered by setting intentions to guide and motivate you on this healing path. Write down concise mantra-like statements that affirm your core intentions. Examples include: “I am ready to face my pain and create space for joy” and “I intend to love myself through this process of healing and growth.”

Also, outline some realistic goals . Maybe you want to address a specific trauma, improve your mental health, build self-esteem, strengthen your body, or release addictive patterns.

Having defined milestones makes your intentions tangible so you can track progress. Yet allow flexibility, as meanings often organically evolve with self-discovery.

Gather Support and Resources

Seeking community and professional support is integral when undertaking deep healing work. Choose friends and allies who uplift and empower you. If these resonate, join a therapy group, support network, spiritual center , or recovery program.

Research different modalities and practitioners like acupuncture, naturopathy, massage, reiki, life coaching, or psychotherapy, and invest in those that feel aligned.

Adopt a Growth Mindset

View yourself as inherently whole while embracing this healing journey as an opportunity to actualize your potential fully. Let go of any victim identity or fatalistic perspective that might sabotage progress.

Be open, patient, and loving with yourself as you navigate the ups and downs. Remember that developing self-awareness, processing trauma, releasing baggage, and cultivating inner peace is intensely meaningful soul work. You have Everything you need within you.

Practice Patience with Yourself and the Process

Remember that healing and growth occur organically, in their timing. Some days, you will feel inspired, centered, and connected to your inner wisdom.

On other days, frustration, anger, sadness, or fear may surface. Meet each emotion stability, allowing your process to unfold without judgment or attachment to outcomes. Trust that by staying present and putting in the work, you will continue progressing on your path in the right way.

Healing Your Body

Caring for your physical body is a central element of the healing journey. Implementing healthy lifestyle habits , managing illness or injury, releasing stored trauma, and relating to your body with love and respect will help align and ground you.

Nutrition and Cleansing Diets

Food truly is medicine. Adopting a nutritious , whole foods diet can improve your physical and mental/emotional health. Minimize processed foods, sugar, saturated fats, and toxins.

Eat plenty of organic fruits, vegetables, healthy fats, lean proteins and fiber. Stay hydrated with purified water. You may also try cleansing programs like juicing, fasting, or digestive resets, which allow the body to detox and revitalize.

Exercise, Yoga, and Movement

Regular physical activity, appropriate for your current fitness level, is tremendously therapeutic for both body and mind. Walking, swimming, running, cycling, dancing, and weight-training can reduce anxiety, improve self-esteem, and help you sleep better.

Yoga is ideal for uniting breath, movement, and mindfulness. Explore different styles to find what resonates best. Any joyful action that makes you feel alive in your body can aid the healing process.

Sleep and Rest

Prioritize getting sufficient sleep to allow your body and brain to recharge. Most adults need 7-9 hours per night. Establish a consistent sleep routine, limit electronics before bedtime, create a restful environment, do relaxing activities before sleep, and take natural supplements if needed.

Spending time offline and resting your mind is also paramount. Take breaks from work, social media, and the news regularly.

Addressing Physical Trauma and Pain

Many people carry unresolved somatic trauma that manifests as chronic tightness, pain, injuries, or bodily armoring. Working with body-centered modalities like massage, craniosacral therapy, rolfing, or other forms of somatic healing can release stuck trauma and tension patterns.

Acupuncture can also help manage pain. Conventional medicine may be needed for significant illness or injury. Be patient with your body’s rate of healing.

Seeing Doctors, Healers and Therapists

Don’t neglect your physical health on your healing journey. Get regular check-ups, necessary tests, and screenings. If facing a particular illness or medical issue, find a doctor who takes a holistic approach.

Alternative healers like naturopaths, homeopaths, ayurvedic practitioners, and functional medicine doctors can complement conventional care. Ongoing bodywork like massage, reiki, and Rolfing will keep your energy flowing and your muscles eased.

Caring For Your Body as a Temple

Relate to your body with unconditional love, patience, respect, and gratitude. Instead of critiquing imperfections, thank your legs for carrying you, your lungs for breathing life into you, and your heart for keeping you alive. Nurture your body’s needs as you would a child’s.

Become aware of any negative self-talk around your physical appearance or abilities. Your body is a sacred vessel. Treat it as the treasure it truly is.

Healing Your Mind

Our thoughts, beliefs, perspectives, and self-talk immensely impact our mental, emotional, and physical health. A primary focus of the healing journey involves dismantling limiting mindsets and fostering empowered, balanced thinking.

Mental Health Assessment

Begin by honestly evaluating your current mental health and getting support if needed. Notice symptoms like extreme mood swings, chronic anxiety or depression, brain fog, and concentration issues, which may require professional approval.

Seek counseling, psychiatry, holistic psychology, support groups, emotional healing, or other mental health resources. There is no shame in needing help to get your mind in a healthier place.

Therapy and Counseling

Working with a skilled therapist or counselor provides immense value in processing emotions, gaining insights, identifying unhelpful patterns, and reprogramming your mind. Different modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Inner Child work help you target specific issues.

Finding the right counselor may take some trial and error. Trust your intuition. Counseling combined with other self-work can profoundly transform your mind.

Mindfulness and Meditation

These mind-calming practices help you become more present, transparent, and peaceful. Mindfulness teaches you to observe your feelings and thoughts non-judgmentally, without reacting or identifying. This creates mental space and objectivity.

Frequent meditation sessions reduce anxiety and stress by inducing relaxation and helping you detach from constant mental chatter. Be patient with maintaining a practice. In time, mindfulness and meditation rewrite your neural pathways.

Thought Pattern and Belief Work

Closely analyze your default thought patterns and stories you subconsciously tell yourself. Do you instantly go to exaggerated worst-case scenarios? Judge yourself harshly over mistakes? Assume you don’t deserve good things?

Identify and start to shift these unhelpful cognitive habits. Affirm empowering beliefs through mantras and journaling. Your mind will gradually absorb this new narrative.

Journaling and Inner Reflection

Writing down your uncensored thoughts and feelings unveils impactful self-insights and patterns. Ask probing questions in your journal, have free-flowing dialogues, and reflect on various aspects of your mental/emotional state.

Periodically review your journal to track changes. Also, remember to spend time quietly tuning into your inner wisdom. Listen to your intuition and higher guidance through contemplative activities.

Read Inspiring Material

What you routinely read and watch affects your thinking. Fill your mind with uplifting, consciousness-expanding media like books on personal growth, spirituality, and holistic living.

Follow thought leaders whose philosophies resonate with you. Avoid consuming too much polarized and antagonistic content. Feed your mind nourishing ideas, and your thoughts will shift.

Release Negative Self-Talk and Criticism

Become aware of self-deprecating internal narratives like “I’m not good enough” so you can consciously release these untruths. Realize thoughts are not facts.

Just because you think something about yourself does not make it real. Replace harsh self-criticism with self-love and gentle compassion for your flaws – which we all have. The quality of your inner voice profoundly impacts your healing.

Nurturing Healthy Relationships - How to Start Your Healing Journey

Healing Your Spirit

The spiritual dimensions of life hold deep meaning, grace, and solace. Connecting to your soul essence allows you to access inner peace and strength. Spiritual healing involves finding your purpose, cultivating compassion, and consciously relating to the world through a lens of love.

Exploring Your Sense of Meaning and Purpose

Part of your spiritual journey is discovering what gives your life meaning, direction, and significance. Explore your passions, skills, values, and dreams. Get quiet and listen to your inner voice guiding you to fulfilling paths.

Release culturally conditioned markers of success and tune into your unique soul gifts. Your spirit thrives when you leverage your talents for good and align work with purpose.

Connecting to Your Inner Wisdom

Look within to access your inherent inner wisdom instead of seeking external validation. Spend time in solitude communing with your spirit. Go on long nature walks, pursue creative endeavors, meditate, chant, pray, dance ecstatically – whatever channels your intuition.

This inner tutor already knows the answers you seek. The more you listen, the more loudly your soul speaks.

Developing Spiritual Practices

Pursue spiritual rituals and activities that feel intrinsically meaningful, not out of dogma. This may include meditation, prayer, yoga, chanting, heart-centered journaling, mystical poetry, divination tools like Tarot, attending spiritual events, going on pilgrimages, and learning from masters and texts. Explore and see what practices resonate most with your spirit.

Spending Time in Nature and Community

Studies. Spending time outdoors, away from everyday life’s noise and chaos, reconnects you to your spirit and the web of life. Joining spiritual communities or participating in ceremonies with like-minded souls provides kinship, learning, and growth. Sangha nourishes your soul.

Cultivating Faith, Hope, Gratitude

Learn to surrender to the mystery and perfection of the Universe. Have faith that life is happening through you, not to you. There are gifts and blessings in every circumstance if you look for them.

When hopelessness arises, find one small thing to be hopeful about – and build from there. Maintain a gratitude practice to stay connected to positivity. Your spirit thrives through faith and thankfulness.

Rituals for Renewal and Rebirth

Spiritual rituals provide structure to realign you to sacredness and purpose regularly.

Create meaningful ceremonies – may be lighting candles and incense, working with crystals, putting intentions in nature’s elements of earth, air, fire, and water—rites of passage like births, transitions, and deaths present openings for ritual. Holidays and changing seasons are also potent times for renewal.

Practicing Forgiveness, Surrender, and Trust

Carrying resentment, anger, and blame poisons your spirit. Learning to forgive yourself and others cleanses your emotional body. Surrender control issues and perfectionism—relinquish attachments to specific outcomes.

Cultivate radical self-trust, patience, acceptance, and release. Your higher Self knows precisely what must unfold and when. These spiritual qualities lighten your energetic load.

Integrating Your Healing

The deeply personal work of healing inevitably leads to profound insights, lessons, and shifts. The ongoing process of integrating these to create positive change is vital. Integrating your healing allows you to embody a new, empowered lifestyle guided by self-love.

Ways to Integrate Insights and Embody Your Healing

Keep an integration journal to process breakthroughs and track your growth. Review regularly to see patterns and maintain awareness. Create spiritual rituals to consecrate the newly healed aspects of yourself.

Use mantras and affirmations to imprint supported beliefs. Integrate physical practices like dance, martial arts, yoga, and breathwork to help anchor and physicalize your healing.

Make space for creativity, play, and joy to allow your inner child to flourish. Let your newly healed sense of self express freely. Release rigidity and perfectionism. Follow inspiration. Remember that healing can be pleasurable, not just painful. Light begets more light.

Ongoing Self-Nurturing Practices

Sustaining your healing requires dedicated self-care. Now that you’ve experienced the benefits commit to daily spiritual practices like meditation, journaling, time in nature, and exercise.

Maintain healthy nutrition and sleep habits. Release what no longer serves you. Limit toxic relationships. Keep exploring. This work is never finished. Nurture and honor yourself consistently.

Celebrating Progress and Growth

Pause periodically to acknowledge and appreciate how far you’ve come. Re-read your journals. Feel the expansiveness in your body. Notice old issues dissolving.

Recognize your strength and resilience. I am grateful for your journey thus far. Celebrate milestones with meaningful rituals. Share inspiring parts of your story with loved ones. Continually recommit to your growth.

Living Purposefully and Authentically

Let your healing guide you into greater alignment with your authentic soul essence. Discover your passions. Speak and act from your truth, even if it makes others uncomfortable.

Be compassionately assertive about your needs. Advocate for your well-being and values. Allow your purpose to shine brighter. This fulfills your spirit.

Allowing Healing to Ripple Out and Help Others

A beautiful by-product of your healing work is that it raises collective consciousness and inspires others. When you heal, we all recover. Be open about your journey so others feel empowered to undertake their own.

Practice compassion for those struggling. Offer empathy, validation, and support. Together, we transform. Your healing matters beyond just you.

This work is continuous, not instant. But the rewards are immeasurable regarding reconnecting with your authentic wholeness and highest potential.

Remember that healing cultivates profound, lasting transformation physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually when you devote yourself to the inner work.

What exactly is a healing journey?

A healing journey is a holistic, ongoing process of self-reflection, personal growth, and transformation that allows you to address wounds on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. It involves making intentional lifestyle changes, processing trauma and emotions, releasing limiting beliefs, and cultivating self-love and inner wisdom. The goal is to achieve whole-person healing.

How do I know if I’m ready to embark on a healing journey?

Signs you may be ready include feeling “stuck” in life, experiencing physical illness or pain, struggling with mental health issues like anxiety/depression, holding onto past traumas, lacking a sense of purpose or meaning, having low self-worth, and being ready to make a change. Assess your commitment level and get support if needed.

Where do I start on my healing journey?

Necessary first steps are self-reflection to identify areas needing healing, setting intentions, seeking counseling/therapy, addressing any urgent physical or mental health needs, developing spiritual practices like meditation and journaling, and educating yourself on holistic modalities. Take things at your own pace.

What self-care practices can help me on my healing journey?

Helpful self-care practices include therapy/counseling, mindfulness/meditation, yoga, exercise, proper nutrition, adequate sleep, spending time in nature, developing gratitude, releasing negative self-talk, journaling, joining support groups, and anything else nourishing.

How long does a healing journey take?

It’s a lifelong process, not a quick fix. The journey unfolds gradually through daily self-care practices. There is no definitive endpoint or perfection to reach. Focus on progress over perfection. Address issues compassionately at your own pace without judgment.

How will I know if I’m making progress in my healing?

Signs of progress include feeling more self-aware, grounded, peaceful, empowered, and connected to your authentic self and purpose. You may release old patterns and wounds, gain new insights about yourself, forge healthier relationships, make more conscious choices, and feel more gratitude, forgiveness, and balance.

Have you ever felt like you’re searching for something but you don’t know what it is? Or maybe you feel unexplainable emptiness as if something is missing in your life. These feelings can be a sign that you are ready to start your journey of spirituality. And that is great because it can be a very rewarding experience that will help you grow as a person.

In this article, I’ll share some tips on how to start your spiritual journey.

Spiritual journeying is a process of self-discovery and spiritual growth . It can be an inward or outward journey, depending on your focus. On this kind of journey, you may explore different aspects of yourself, such as:

  • your beliefs
  • motivations

The most important thing is to be open to the process and to allow yourself to grow in whatever ways feel right for you. You may also feel connected with the divine or universal consciousness. Trust that you are being guided by a power greater than yourself and let go of any expectations. The journey is its own reward.

There are many signs that indicate that you are ready to start your spiritual journey. Here are some common ones:

Reevaluating Beliefs

As you grow and evolve, it is natural to reevaluate your religious or spiritual belief system or any other set of beliefs that you hold about yourself and the world around you . This includes:

  • exploring different aspects of yourself and your world
  • feeling called to do something new
  • doubts or questions about your current beliefs

All of these might mean that you’re ready to go on a spiritual journey.

You’re Aware of More Synchronicities

Synchronicity is a meaningful coincidence . It is when two or more events happen at the same time and seem to be related, even though there is no obvious causal connection. For instance:

  • You may be driving to work and thinking about a friend you’ve not seen in a while; then, you get a call from that friend out of the blue.
  • Or you may be thinking about a certain number all day and then see that same number everywhere you go . These number appearances are not unusual. They are called angel numbers because they represent your angel’s guidance.

These are all examples of synchronicity. Some people interpret synchronicity as a sign that they are being guided by a higher power and it might be the beginning of your spiritual journey.

Relationships Are Changing

This can happen in many different ways:

  • you may feel called to end a toxic relationship
  • you might find yourself attracted to people who are on similar spiritual paths as you.
  • your intuition may become more active and you will start to become more aware of the energy around you – both positive and negative, depending on the relationships that you have in your life

This could mean that you are ending relationships that no longer benefit you, or that new and better relationships are coming into your life . As you grow and change, your relationships will also change; this is all a part of the spiritual journey.

You’ll Stop Judging Others

One of the most important signs that you are ready to commence your spiritual development is that you will stop judging others. This includes both strangers and people close to you. As you start your spiritual journey, you will:

  • start to see the world differently
  • come to understand that everyone is on their own unique path, and that we all depend on each other
  • eventually let go of judgment and negativity, opening your heart to love and compassion

You Will Enjoy Being Alone and Make Time for Yourself

This doesn’t mean that you won’t want to be around other people, but rather that you will start to appreciate your own company .

  • being able to sit in silence and solitude will help you to connect with your true self
  • you will start to see the beauty in solitude and understand that it is a necessary part of the journey

If you are ready to start the spiritual journey, trust your intuition and make time for yourself .

You Feel More Connected With Nature

As you begin your spiritual voyage, you will start to see the natural world in a different light.

  • you may start spending more time outside
  • you may feel a deep connection with the animals around you
  • you’ll understand that we are all connected, and that nature is a source of wisdom and strength

If you are ready to start your soul-searching journey, trust your intuition and let nature give you spiritual guidance.

Your Intuition Is Getting Stronger

Have you lately been drawn to certain books, movies, or music that you never would have noticed before? This means that you are starting to pay attention to the messages that your intuition is sending you . As you begin your journey, you will learn to trust your intuition more and more, relying on it as on an inner guide. If you are feeling called to begin this journey, trust your intuition and let go of anything that is holding you back – your spiritual healing journey is waiting to begin.

Searching for the Meaning of Life and Your Life’s Purpose

You’ll probably start to question the things that you’ve always taken for granted. You will ask yourself big questions like “What is the meaning of life?” and “What is my life’s purpose?” Thinking about these subjects is a sign that you are ready to start your journey. When you are searching for the meaning of life, you are really searching for your own truth . And when you decide to find your truth, your spiritual journey will begin.

How to Start Your Spiritual Journey?

The journey of spirituality is an individual experience that looks different for everyone, and the best way to find out what works for you is to simply trust your intuition. However, there are a few steps and stages of your spiritual journey that will help you get started:

The first step is to realize that everything is happening for a reason. This means that you must accept that there is a greater connection and a plan at work in the universe and that you are not in control of everything. When you start to see the world through this lens, it is only a matter of time before you realize that there is a power greater than yourself and that you can start to look inward to find the truth.

The second step in finding your spiritual path is to learn how to be present in the moment . This means that you must learn to live in the here and now, and not worry about the past or future. When you are able to live in the present, you will find peace and happiness. You will no longer be controlled by your thoughts, and you will be able to be truly connected to the world around you. This important step takes practice.

The third step on your spiritual path is to learn about different meditation techniques, chakras , astrology , numerology, and more. This step is important because it helps you to understand the world around you and your place in it. When you have a better understanding of these things, you will be able to connect with the universe in a deeper way. You will also be able to choose your own spiritual practices.

There are many great spiritual books that will help you with your journey. Reading books about spirituality can help you realize that you are not alone on this soul-searching path. You will also master new methods and tactics for development.

This means that you must be willing to look at everything that you believe in and ask yourself if it is really true. You may begin to view the world in a new light when you are able to question your ideas . You will no longer accept things at face value, and you will start on the spiritual pathway with a different perspective. This is an important milestone on the spiritual path, and it can be difficult.

This step means that you must be serene when the most important relationships in your life crumble. This is a difficult time, but it is also an important one. When these relationships fall apart, it can be a sign that you are ready to move on to the next stage of your journey. There is no need for sorrow because new, powerful, and constructive relationships are on your way. Soul-searching begins only when we are willing to let go of what is familiar so that we can truly grow.

This means that you must find a way to reconnect with nature and stay connected to yourself and your own inner being. When you are able to connect with the world around you, you will find peace and happiness. You will also stay tuned to your own inner truth, and this is a very important part of the spiritual healing journey. This connection can be made in many ways, such as:

  • being in nature
  • sometimes even just through simple conversations with people

Emotions are tricky things, and it’s often hard to know how to deal with them. On the path of spirituality, it’s important to question your emotions and find out what triggers them . This can be a difficult process, but it’s an important one. Your emotions are there for a reason, and they can be helpful in guiding you on your spiritual journey. However, you need to be honest with yourself and figure out what emotions are serving you and which ones are holding you back. Only by questioning your emotions can you start to move forward in your spiritual adventure.

This is the voice that speaks to you in times of quiet contemplation, and it’s the most truthful voice you will ever hear. When you are able to listen to your inner voice, you will be able to make better decisions and find your true path in life. In your spiritual awakening journey to the inner self, it is important to declutter your mind. However, this step can be difficult, as it’s easy to get caught up in the noise of the world. Make sure to take some time for quiet reflection and really listen to what your inner voice is telling you.

The inner child is the part of you that is innocent and pure, and it often gets lost along the way. Healing your inner child is an important step in your journey, as this is the part of you that has been hurt or neglected . It’s important to be gentle with yourself during this process and to really listen to what your inner child needs. Only by healing your inner child can you hope to move forward on your spiritual journey path.

Forgiveness is an important step in achieving a deeper spiritual existence, as it allows you to let go of the past and move forward . Forgiving yourself can be difficult, but it’s important to remember that you are not perfect and that everyone makes mistakes. Forgiving others can also be challenging, but it’s important to remember that everyone is on their own journey and they are doing the best they can. Try to let go of anger and resentment, and instead focus on forgiveness and healing.

The journey is often unpredictable, and it can be easy to get lost along the way. The most important thing on your journey of spiritual awakening is to trust the process and have faith that everything will work out in the end. Remember that your journey is unique to you and there is no right or wrong way to do things.

The spiritual trip is not an easy one, but it is definitely worth taking. It will challenge everything that you know and force you to grow in ways that you never thought possible. Spiritual journeying involves a mystical synergy between the ego, the soul, and the spirit. I hope this guide on beginning a spiritual journey has been helpful, and now you know where to start!

Everyone’s journey into spirituality is unique. However, it’s a lifelong journey of growth, and the effects of spiritual enlightenment can last for years or even a lifetime. Make sure to enjoy the ride and let go of any expectations you may have. Everything will work out in the end!

As the journey starts at a different time for everybody, there isn’t an exact answer on where or how to start your spiritual journey. However, some good ways to start include:

  • exploring your beliefs
  • connecting with nature
  • spending time in silence and contemplation

Just relax and let the journey take you where you need to go!

If you've been going through a rough patch in your life, or if you've been feeling purposeless and aimless, then it might be time to take a step back and change things up. You may even want to consider connecting with your spiritual side – by going on a spiritual journey.

But don't be mistaken; a spiritual journey does not need to be related to religion (although some may find religion. As a matter of fact, a spiritual journey is about looking past the physical world and gaining a deeper insight into yourself and your life.

Everyone has a different purpose behind their spiritual journey, but the ultimate goal is to become at peace with yourself and the world; to let go of the past and look into the future. It will also help you become at peace with yourself and with the challenges you face in your life.

So, if you're interested in embarking on your spiritual journey for a happier life, consider following these 7 tips.

7 Tips For Starting Your Spiritual Journey

Remember, everyone undertakes their own unique spiritual journey, and therefore there are no hard and fast rules as to how your spiritual journey should look like. However, if you're feeling overwhelmed and unsure about where to start, we have some guiding tips that will make the process easier.

1. Identify a purpose

As mentioned earlier, everyone embarks on a spiritual journey for different reasons. So, before you begin, you have to establish why you've decided to embark on this journey, and what you want to get out of it.

Here are some examples that you can take inspiration from:

  • You want to find more ways to improve yourself
  • You want to find some answers to life and its happenings
  • You've been through a difficult time, and now you want to have a thorough reset
  • You want to get to know yourself and your goals better

When you know what you're working towards, it'll much easier for you to plan out your spiritual journey map and stick to your goals.

2. Make a spiritual roadmap

When you go on a road trip or a hike, you need to plan out your destinations and your schedule. The same goes for your spiritual journey! Once you've figured out the purpose behind your spiritual journey, you'll need to think about how you'll reach your goal.

For example, do you intend to join a yoga class? Or take a vacation from work and travel? Or maybe you're planning to spend more time in nature and pick up gardening. Whatever it is, it's important to make some general plans on what you would like to do or focus on.

3. Start small

Starting a spiritual journey can be a new and overwhelming process for many of us, which is why it's important to start small. If you start out with vague and ambitious goals like "start a garden" or "do yoga everyday after work", it can be difficult to stick to your plans and you may end up giving up.

Instead, take things small and slow. Give yourself small and realistic goals to begin with. Instead of starting with "start a garden", you could say, "start with a succulent". Instead of "do yoga everyday after work", say "do yoga thrice a week for 10 mins before bed".

Remember, this is your journey and yours only. There's no need to rush yourself and give yourself a deadline. Go with the flow!

4. Find or create a safe space for reflection

Being able to find a quiet place to relax your body, mind and soul and reflect on the day is a key part of every spiritual journey. This should be, mostly importantly, a place that you feel the most safe in. You might even want to create a place of your own — making a blanket fort in your room, or finding a private spot on the nearby beach, for example.

No matter where it is, this should be a sacred and private place where you can safely and comfortably meditate and reflect. You may even want to consider adding essential oils, scented candles, blankets and pillows to make the place as comfy as possible.

5. Meditate

Now that you've found your sacred reflective space, it's time to pick up meditation. It's not an easy skill to pick up, but it's extremely beneficial for both your mental wellbeing and your spirituality! Meditation allows you to get in touch with your inner self and your emotions. That is why meditation is almost always a key part of spiritual journeys, regardless of the goal.

If you're new to meditation, there are tons of resources available on the Internet for your choosing. There are numerous YouTube videos and meditation apps like Calm or Headspace that can guide beginners through meditation.

6. Be open to new experiences

And perhaps the most important tip of all is to keep an open mind! As you embark upon your spiritual journey, you may encounter activities that you've never tried before. It's important to be willing to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.

For example, if you've been skeptical about meditation and yoga, there's no better time to shelve those judgments away and just give it a shot. Or, if you've always been a homebody, it's time to shake the dust off those walking shoes and step out for a walk in the nearby park.

It's time to suspend your disbelief and approach everything new with childlike wonder and openness.

7. Pick up journaling

If you aren't already in the habit of journaling, you should consider picking up journaling throughout your spiritual journey.

Journaling is a great way to reflect on your life experiences and rediscover yourself. There are many deep prompts and questions online that you can answer in your journal, and you'll be surprised at how insightful your answers can be! Journaling can play a huge part in your spiritual journey and in learning more about yourself.

Plus, it's easy to pick up. All you have to do is download a digital journaling app like Journey and get started! On Journey, creating and writing journal entries is as easy as pie, and you can even upload pictures, videos and audio to supplement your writing.

Journey also comes with Journey Coach , where you'll have access to numerous Coach programs of various topics, from practicing gratitude to self-discovery, and even relationships! When you enroll for a program, you will be sent daily prompts to your Journey timeline under the Stories feature, where you can input your answers to these prompts. These programs and prompts can also help you on your spiritual journey!

Furthermore, journaling is also a great way to track the progress you've made in your spiritual journey. All you have to do is journal every day — preferably at night — and reflect on the day that has passed.

This way, you can always look back on these entries and take a look at how far you've come. Journey has a Throwback feature, which allows you to look back on your past entries and look at the course of your spiritual journey.

How to Start a Spiritual Healing Journey: What to Expect

It can be a daunting task to start on a spiritual healing journey. There are many ways to heal yourself and many ways to go about it. You might not know where to start or what steps you need to take, but don’t fret! This article will help guide you as you explore your options and set out on your spiritual healing classes.

The first step is recognizing the problem. Once you have identified the issue, you can then do research on different resources that might help with the issue. There are many types of therapy available- somatic therapy, breathwork, mindfulness, etc.- so make sure that you find one that will address the specific issue at hand. Next, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Ideally, there should be at least one person who knows what they are doing who can offer advice or guidance during your treatment. Finally, be patient with yourself! It can take time for these changes in lifestyle and mindset to become second nature and for people to see results.

What is spiritual healing?

Spiritual healing is the act of healing oneself through spirituality. Spiritual healing practices are not limited to religion, as people can use a variety of practices to heal themselves. These practices include deep breathing, meditation, and prayer.

How to start a spiritual healing journey

There are many ways to heal yourself and many ways to go about it. You might not know where to start or what steps you need to take, but don’t fret! This article will help guide you as you explore your options and set out on your spiritual healing journey.

Steps to take during the healing process

The first step on your journey is to identify the problem you are facing.  Once you have identified the issue, do some research on different resources that might help with the issue. It can take time for these changes in lifestyle and mindset to become second nature and for people to see results

What to expect while on the healing journey

Somatic therapy, breathwork, and mindfulness are just a few examples of the resources available to you on your healing journey. These therapies can help you with a variety of issues, like trauma or addiction. It is important to seek out the right type of therapy for your needs.

There will be at least one person who knows what they’re doing who will offer advice or guidance during your treatment. You may also want to find a therapist or counselor who specializes in spiritual healing so that they will be able to address the specific issue at hand. You must also be patient with yourself as it could take time for these changes in lifestyle and mindset to become second nature and for people to see results.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to declutter. This could mean purging old clothes, getting rid of any material items that are taking up space, or even cleaning out your physical and digital life.

Decluttering will leave you with more time, energy, and space – all of which are critical to your healing journey. When you have less in your life, it’s easier to stay focused on what’s important and get work done without distractions.

It’s also easier to focus on your mental health when there are fewer things around that may trigger you. Your mental health should always come first, so decluttering will be a great start towards achieving balance!

Examine your beliefs

Before embarking on a spiritual healing journey, it’s important to examine your beliefs and habits. What are you doing that might be leading to the problem? Are there any patterns that can help identify the root of the issue? What is enabling the issue?

It’s also important to recognize what you would like to change. Is there something, in particular, you want to work on? Does your problem stem from a specific belief or habit?

Another thing to discuss with yourself is what type of spirituality might work best for you. There are many different types of practices- paganism, Christianity, Buddhism, etc.- so it’s up to you which one will be most effective for your needs. This can prove especially helpful if you’re struggling with addiction or craving certain substances.

Expand your mind and heal your body.

Spiritual healing is the process of restoring oneself to a natural state of well-being through the use of different techniques, such as breathing exercises, somatic therapy, and mindfulness. These different methods can help you better understand your own emotions and thoughts, leading to a feeling of peace and calmness. Spiritual healing is a practice that has been used for centuries in many cultures around the world to promote physical, mental and emotional health. It can be an empowering experience to expand your mind and heal your body; all it takes is some time and patience!

Take care of yourself

Ultimately, what you put into your spiritual healing journey is what you will get out of it. The more time and energy that you invest in this process, the better your results will be. Taking care of yourself- both physically and mentally- is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. If you are physically well, then the rest will come more easily. Your mindset should address all aspects of health- emotional, mental, and physical. No matter how long it takes to see results, these changes won’t happen overnight. But with patience and time, these changes will become second nature and people will see a difference in you!

Bottom Line

It is important to know about your issue and the type of therapy that might help. You should also be patient with yourself, as it may take time for these changes in lifestyle to become second nature and for people to see results.

How to Start Your Healing Journey: 8 Tools and Tips for an Overcomer

Hiking

  • Kemir Baker

What does a healing journey look like as you strive to overcome trauma, abuse, or other challenges? Your experience will look unique to you as you become an overcomer. Going through this journey is something we have covered on a 3-part series of a healing peace podcast. You can listen to this series from the beginning with the first episode here. If you are ready to begin today, we have gathered our most powerful tools and tips to help you further your healing journey. Put these strategies into place and you will begin a long-term transformation.

Start Your Healing Journey: 8 Tools for an Overcomer

1. review your self-care.

As your body finds rest, so can your spirit. Reviewing how you take care of yourself and what you can do to find rest can make a tremendous difference in your healing journey toward overcoming abuse, trauma, and other challenges. Ask yourself what you do in your day-to-day life to care for your physical and emotional health. If you cannot think of anything, this is a great place to start. If you do have a practice in place, consider how much peace it truly gives you. Small shifts or changes in your routine may help you find greater rest.

Self-care comes in many forms. From resting and taking care of your body to what you drink and what you eat. Exercising or simply finding a positive way to move your body is also important. Taking care of yourself also comes in the form of taking time to yourself to recover from life’s ups and downs. Yes, your healing journey constitutes self-care.

2. Establish Emotion Habits

In your healing journey, it is necessary to establish healthy habits to deal with your emotions so they do not destroy you. It is crucial to identify and seek additional support for those emotions that you may tend to set aside. We are not meant to carry these burdens internally. A therapist or other professional may help you uncover the best way for you to experience your emotions. Do not be afraid to start small and give yourself time to process.

3. Find Your Worth

This is so key as you heal from emotional wounds. If you do not fully grasp or understand your worth, you allow others to decide what your worth is. How those people view you likely pales in comparison to how God views you and how He created you. Also, when you do not know your worth, you can develop toxic relationships.

Consider what your current thoughts are about your worth. Where do those thoughts come from? Whether they come from God, safe family or friends, or a more negative space should change how seriously you take that point of view. If you are unhappy with your current state of self-worth, seek to change it and start with God!

4. Remember Your Relationship with God

God is always with you despite any suffering. No matter what life tells you or what other people tell you, you were created in God’s image, God is always with you, and He always loves you.

You may feel closer in your relationship with God as you study His word, pray to him with intention, and attend worship services that touch your heart. There might also be a certain place that helps you feel closer to God. Consider where you have felt His Spirit before and see how going back to that place may help you in your healing journey.

5. Surround Yourself with Safe People

Even though people can hurt you and may have caused your wounds, there are still positive people who can support you as you heal. These safe people provide the human reflection of God’s love, mercy, and grace.

Through therapy and healing with the support of safe people, you can allow trauma to no longer own your life. As you do this, abuse or poor treatment no longer has the power to control your worth or your outlook on life. As you expose the pain with the right people (most likely a professional), you can diminish the power of trauma and take that next step as an overcomer.

6. Be an Active Journaler

An overcomer’s tool is journaling. Journaling helps in so many ways. It allows us to bring clarity to our feelings and emotions. It helps us to articulate what is truly happening in our innermost being.

Positive psychology research shows that journaling can reduce anxiety and help regulate emotion. It can also help us put a pause on obsessive thoughts and become better aware of a situation or experience. Studies show that journaling has a positive effect on our mental and physical health. This double dose of clarity and peace can help bring great change to your life as you become an overcomer.

7. Allow God to Transform Suffering

With your acceptance, God can transform your suffering into healing. To do this, start to find ways to make God accessible and tangible in your life. That may require digging deeper into His word and believing what He says about you.

Ask the safe people around you how they might have felt God transform their suffering. You can learn from others who have experienced challenges before and turned to God.

8. Do the Work

Overcoming requires investing, consistency, and continually working on these tools and tips. Some days will be good and some will be bad. Little may change overnight. Taking back your life requires persistence and commitment to a new you!

As you commit to consistency in working on your healing journey, you will develop trust within yourself. You become a reliable source of peace and healing within yourself. While getting to this consistency can be tricky at first, it can help to ask for help from your support system. Tell the safe people around you what kind of nudges they could give you to inspire your continual positive journey. How will you begin to be an overcomer? The first step in the journey is up to you. Consider how you might be able to work these strategies into your day-to-day life as habits. You may even need to schedule them in your calendar! Do that work and you will begin to see the change in your life.

How to Begin a Spiritual Journal (Start Here!)

by Aletheia · Jan 13, 2024 · 9 Comments

Image of a spiritual journal and relaxing cup of tea

It is my deeply held conviction that journaling is a sacred practice .

Journaling is an altar for sacred creative ideas, a palace for holy epiphanies , a temple of deep feelings, and a shrine for mystical reflections.

In essence, journaling is innately spiritual:

It is a practice that helps to mirror the mind, open the heart, and reconnect us with the Soul .

Dark Night of the Soul Journal cover

Therefore, to begin a spiritual journal is a sacred undertaking – and there are endless ways to do it, many of which are surprising!

Table of contents

What is spiritual journaling, the power of spiritual journaling , spiritual journaling and the soul, what do i write about, spiritual journal ideas (what to buy), internal side of spiritual journaling, where to go from here.

Image of a candle used for journaling

Put simply, spiritual journaling is the sacred practice of keeping a journal that explores one’s inner landscape.

Regular journaling tends to focus only on surface-level thoughts and feelings whereas spiritual journaling tends to dive deep into one’s core fears, hopes, dreams, discoveries, and inspirations .

In other words, spiritual journaling is a path of Soul Work (or Inner Work ) that helps to awaken, expand, empower, and illuminate the hidden recesses of our inner selves.

The result of committing to a regular spiritual journaling practice is usually:

  • Discovering one’s higher purpose
  • Feeling empowered at a core level
  • Finding a sense of belonging within oneself and life
  • Increased Self-Love and acceptance
  • Accessing one’s inner Creator
  • Deeper Self-Awareness and understanding
  • Healed relationships with others
  • Enhanced intuition
  • Spiritual clarity and integration
  • Ability to access more peace, love, and joy (even in the darkest times)
  • Profound growth on every level

At the core of spiritual journaling is the drive to reconnect to something deeper and higher than ourselves. Some refer to this force as one’s Inner Guide, True Nature , Authentic Self, Higher Self , Daimon, Christ Consciousness , or Buddha Nature – but we refer to this force as the Soul .

Image of a hand reaching up to the sun

Soul Work is at the very center of our practice of spiritual journaling.

By being intentional, putting a pen to the page, and letting our inner thoughts, feelings, and discoveries flow, we are accessing our Soul’s wisdom and guidance. What we’re experiencing is a form of Ensoulment.

Ensoulment means to live from and within the Soul. We live within the Soul by letting it guide, direct, and inspire our lives – and this helps us to live from the Soul, creating luminous ripples of change around and inside us.

Journaling supports our reconnection with the Soul by making a mindful ritual out of this inner journey of awakening. Depending on what technique or prompt we decide to use, we enter a sacred spiral path of inner illumination, healing, and expansion!

Anything and everything!

Keeping a spiritual journal is all about the mindful intention and purpose you give it – so if your purpose is to learn, grow, and evolve as a spiritual being, anything is relevant!

For example, you might write about:

  • How you feel
  • Patterns you’ve notice emerging in your life
  • Synchronicities , signs, and omens
  • Anything that inspires you
  • Insecurities, fears, and shadowy parts
  • Mystical experiences you’ve had
  • Thoughts you’ve been having recently
  • Dreams (both conscious and unconscious)
  • Oracle and tarot card readings
  • Sudden epiphanies
  • Meaningful goals and plans
  • Introspective deep dives
  • Art – yes, you can draw in your journal! (Why not?!)
  • Found objects like leaves, newspaper clippings, artwork, feathers, etc. that inspire you (yes, by all means stick them into your journal if it calls to you!)

Obviously, there’s a lot more you can include, but the above is just to give you an exciting idea of the possibilities!

Externally you’ll need to find yourself a nice journal and a pen that flows nicely – that’s it!

(Of course, if you prefer to exclusively journal on your phone, tablet, or computer, this part won’t be relevant to you, so feel free to skip to the next section.)

There are so many types of journals out there – here are some of my picks under the vintage , rustic , whimsical , modern , and minimalist categories. Ultimately, find what excites you and go for it!

If you prefer a handmade journal (which has something extra special about it, but not all of us have that time), follow your instincts and make one. Here’s an inspiring and instructional video that may help you to do that:

Next comes the pen.

Sure, you can go grab that old grubby pen you got for free somewhere, but does it write nicely? You wouldn’t think it makes much of a difference how a pen flows on the paper, but it does (believe me!).

A scratchy, heavy, lethargic pen will do nothing but weigh you down and make your spiritual journaling practice feel like a drag (quite literally!).

Instead, consider mindfully investing in a good quality pen made for writing long-form.

In this case, the best types of pens are rollerball , fountain , or gel pens (on the other hand, ballpoint pens kind of suck, sorry but it’s true!).

Some good options I’ve hand-picked include Pilot FriXion gel pens , Waterman Graduate Allure Fountain Pen , and Writech Liquid Ink Rollerball Pens .

The most crucial internal part of spiritual journaling is our intention .

An intention, quite simply, is the aim or purpose we give to our journaling.

Spiritual Gifts Test image

Keep in mind that there’s a BIG difference between directionless ranting-and-raving journaling and journaling with a higher purpose (which is the intention we carry).

One of the biggest struggles many people have when they journal is that it can lead to spirals of self-pity, anger, and feeling like a victim. Note that this only happens when your journaling lacks a higher purpose!

Here’s how to make your spiritual journal intentional:

  • Give a name to your journal (yes, a name!) as it may help you to feel closer to this practice. Examples could be “Journal of Insight,” “Ethereal Reflections,” “Mirror of the Soul,” or even a name of someone you admire like a mentor or best friend such as Plato, Devi, Mary, Merlin, Rumi, Anna, etc.
  • On the very first page, write a dedication (to your past/present/future self, to Life/Divine/Source, or to someone you love if that resonates)
  • Whenever journaling, try to always dig deeper and ask “Why?” or “What does this mean?”
  • If you find yourself spiralling into a dark place while journaling, ask, “What is this person, feeling or situation teaching me?”
  • At the beginning of the journal, list some topics you’d like to explore more deeply (examples could be mistaken beliefs, childhood experiences, unhealthy patterns, recurring dreams, a magical insight you’ve recently had, etc.)
  • Make a daily habit out of writing in your spiritual journal. Even just a couple of minutes to jot down something meaningful to you can make a world of difference.

Ive kept a special journal that serves as what u describe in the article as a Spiritual Journal.

But the only reason i had it was because i was a stickler for recording stuff, almost like OCD.

Im not sure if thats healthy, but that’s what happened.

Festus Akpobome Emaniru

I only keep dream journal. I started Journaling my dreams since 2016.

Personally, I’ve been writing a spiritual journal for several years already. And when it comes to journaling in general, I’ve been doing so since I was a little kid, and oddly enough, I never stopped. I’ve looked through hundreds of resources online and dozens of books on the topic by this point, and it’s difficult to find specifically resources on spiritual (and not necessarily religious) journal resources, but some terms/phrases you can search online might lead to interesting results if you don’t know what to write on a blank page. 1. Spiritual journal prompts (Duh) 2. Philosophy journal prompts 3. Philosophy questions 4. Questions for deep conversations 5. Thought provoking questions 6. Hypothetical questions 7. Thought experiments (Then write your thoughts on them) 8. Spiritual art (If you want some art inspiration for any creatives here) 9. Spiritual poetry (Same reason, but verbal art rather than visual art) 10. Spiritual quotes (Search quotes to write your thoughts on). Hope that helps some people.

I’m just about to properly start my journalling experience

Zinhle

I must be honest, I started Journaling approximately 2yrs ago and it truly worked well for me than I just went through the roughest time in my life and somehow I felt like I was empty and I just couldn’t find words to express how I felt so eventually I stopped and I haven’t done any Journaling in approximately 6 months, how do I find the strength to get back on the horse?

John Ambrose

Well my journal is like an old mongrel bitch. Born from many sections of life and Spiritual experimentation. And yes! its put together with a horrid old ball point pen with much scratching out and replacements of words misspelt, phrases miss placed and grammar awaiting Grammarly online. This is journal one, a prelim journal catching all the dream action at 4am in the Morning in which anything goes. As I never quite know where to begin and upon which visual timeline works best…..I just let it pour out of me like a proverbial fountain. In this state it is rough as old pine bark and full of nonsense and scribble, but this let it out approach gives much dust mud and slush along with the little gems, like gold dust. These can then be expanded as one feels, corrects and lets the beggar out. After this it gets left to wallow in the dust of my desk, until retrieved the nest day, re read and re purposed into something that speaks from the joy of the heart and Soul into a new creation, new growth. So yes Luna and Sol I am ready!. Out of the throw it all together …  Read more »

Crystal Healing 101: A Beginner’s Guide To The Spiritual Practice

Turns out, gemstones can be used for more than just pretty jewelry.

crystal healing

While these gemstones have been around for centuries, crystal healing really became trendy during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Google Trends . Subsequently, the crystals market grew 20 percent during that time, per Bloomberg . Plus, they've got their fair share of celeb fans: Adele holds crystals in her hand while performing, Victoria Beckham keeps them backstage at her fashion shows , and Miranda Kerr stores a crystal wand in her purse to keep herself balanced.

So, what’s so special about these ancient stones? While there is no hard proof that these stones will spark any massive changes in your life, they sure are pretty to look at, and a little extra spiritual support never hurts, right?

Plus, the barrier to entry is low—all you need is a stone or two to get started. “This is an easy holistic healing modality you can invite into your life,” says Sandy Labbate , a certified trauma-informed transformation coach and crystal reiki master, based in Arizona.“Crystals can help you balance yourself and even release bad energy around you.” And if you’re entering the world of crystal healing with a healthy dose of skepticism, hey, they also make excellent home decor , if nothing else.

Ahead, experts explain everything to know about crystal healing, including if there’s any science behind it, the meaning and uses of each crystal , and more.

What is crystal healing?

Crystal healing is a spiritual practice that believes in the power of crystals to shift, absorb, direct, detoxify, diffuse, or amplify the energy of your mind, soul, or environment, says Erin Panzarella , a spiritual mentor and quantum healer based in New York. “Each crystal has a certain vibration, or energy, that can help bring the body or environment back to harmony.”

Is there any science behind crystal healing?

There is no scientific evidence backing the power of healing crystals. It's worth nothing that very little scientific research has been done on the topic, beyond a few studies that claim it is pseudoscience and the power of the placebo effect.

The most famous study about crystal healing happened in the early 2000s in London, where Dr. Christopher French, a psychologist at Goldsmith's College, worked with 80 volunteers to test the effectiveness of meditating with a healing crystal. Half of the participants were given a natural stone, while the other half were given a fake. Of the 80 volunteers, 74 reported positive shifts in their energy, with the most popular symptoms being a warm sensation and increased concentration. Only six people said they felt nothing. French concluded these side effects were the result of the placebo effect, The Telegraph reported at the time.

More recent studies, one completed in Pakistan in 2009 and another in Denmark in 2013 , more or less came to the same conclusion as French. It was the suggestion of the power of crystals, rather than the crystals themselves, that made the difference for people.

While our experts acknowledged the lack of science on the topic, “having something to believe in and pour your energy into is all you need sometimes,” says Melissa Randazzo , a crystal expert based in New York and the owner of True Warrior Jewelry. “[That] can actually have the benefits that you're looking for.”

Crystals and Their Meanings

Clear quartz: master healer.

transparent quartz crystals with rainbow light background

This stone is known as the master healer because it helps to amplify the energy of all of the crystals around it, says Panzarella. It’s believed to help people find a sense of harmony, clear their own energetic field, and sharpen their intuition. Using this crystal may also evoke a sense of calmness.

Obsidian: Protection

Obsidian is believed to shield against negativity, says Panzarella, byblocking and absorbing negative energy from the environment as well as your physical body. This crystal can help ease stress, tension, and psychic blocks, she says. Obsidian can be a powerful tool when you are trying to manifest but are coming up against a lot of negative self-talk.

Rose Quartz: Universal Love

Rose quartz is considered a powerful crystal that represents universal love, says Panzarella. It is a great crystal to use when trying to up your self-love practice and promote kindness around you and in your relationships.

Jasper: Nurturer

If you’re going through a tough time, Jasper can bring a sense of peace, tranquility, and wholeness into your life, says Panzarella. And like obsidian, it’s believed to absorb negative energy. Panzarella recommends this stone for those grieving any kind of loss.

Citrine: Happiness

Citrine is an energizing stone that can help elevate every area of life, says Panzarella. If you are looking to bring more prosperity, creativity, pleasure, and strength into your life, consider this potential tool. She also recommends citrine as a beginner stone because it generally helps you enjoy your life more fully!

Turquoise: Purification

Turquoise is known as a purification stone that is believed to help dispel negative energy and keep bad vibes from coming into your space, says Panzarella. This crystal may also help stabilize one's mood and help one feel balanced and serene. If you need to tap into your inner strength to get through a difficult time or the end of a cycle, this is the stone she recommends.

Amethyst: Meditation

Amethyst is considered a protective stone that can help chill you out, says Panzarella. It’s also believed to heighten spiritual awareness and promote healing of the mind and soul. Crystal healers say it’s especially powerful when used with meditation to help balance your energy and bring an overall calmness through the body.

Tiger’s Eye: Good Luck

If you need a little luck on your side, you may want to explore Tiger’s Eye. This crystal is associated with personal empowerment, prosperity, and good luck, says Panzarella. If you’ve been waiting to take action on something, need a little boost, say for a big presentation or job interview, or need to have a tough conversation, Tiger’s Eye can be an excellent stone to have nearby. It’s believed to promote a sense of grace and courage through uncomfortable action, Panzarella says.

Moonstone: New Beginnings

When you start fresh at a new job, living situation, or school, you may want to have a moonstone ready for the first day. This stone is considered ideal for new beginnings because it promotes inner strength and calmness even in times of chaos, says Panzarella. Moonstone is also believed to be good for fertility, she adds, because it is connected to the moon.

Bloodstone: Soother

When you’re entering a situation that may test your patience, it’s not a bad idea to have a bloodstone on hand, says Panzarella. This crystal is believed to soothe feelings of irritability or impatience, provide a grounding and protective energy, and help you remain in control of your emotions.

Black Tourmaline: Grounding

extreme close up of black tourmaline mineral

Black tourmaline is said to remove negative energy from a space and, overall, help the user feel more grounded. So, if you’re looking to bring a calming energy to a new space, you might place black tourmaline over the windows and door frames, which is said to block negative energy from entering, says Randazzo. Using black tourmaline jewelry, or keeping it on your person, is also believed to connect you to the earth and promote calmness.

Sapphire: Expression

When you need to express yourself verbally—speaking up for yourself at work and in your relationships—sapphire can be a powerful crystal, says Panzarella. Sapphire is believed to promote creative expression and a thirst for knowledge or further education. If you’ve signed up for a course or are entering a new school, Sapphire can be a powerful way to guide you to expressing your truth in new environments!

Ruby: Passion

If things are feeling a bit blah, says Panzarella, you might want to try some ruby. This crystal is said to inspire joie de vivre and breathe exciting new energy into your life. Crystal healers say ruby also attracts a sense of generosity and openness to exciting opportunities.

How To Select A Crystal

If you’re interested in dabbling in crystal healing yourself, experts recommend finding a metaphysical store near you and buying the crystal you are drawn to. This can be as simple as liking the color or texture of the stone. Usually, people find the stones or the crystals meant for them, says Randazzo. “There’s always a reason for it. If you pick something up that’s your favorite color, say orange, it may be as simple as liking the color at the moment,” she explains “But maybe it’s Carnelian and super fiery, and you need to invite that fire into your life.”

Before you enter the store or virtual store, for that matter, you can also find a goal, says Panzarella. You can ask yourself what you need clarity on in this moment or what you need support with. If you notice a flash of color while doing this visualization, that could be a sign from your subconscious telling you which crystal to go for, she says.

How To Use Crystals

Labbate recommends that first-time crystal users try crystal jewelry. It’s an easy way to incorporate healing stones into your daily routine and receive the benefits of multiple crystals at once. If you want to block out negative energy and invite love into your life, for example, you may go for a stack of obsidian and rose quartz bracelets.

Healing crystals can also be a great addition to a meditation practice , says Panzarella and Labbate. You can either keep your crystals near you or place them on different chakras or energy centers on your body. If you want to clear your mind, you can literally put a crystal on your head while you lie in meditation, Panzarella says. It may look whacky, but it also might work!

How To Take Care Of A Healing Crystal

As with jewelry, you can take care of your crystals by storing them in a soft pouch for safekeeping, per Randazzo. You can also burn rosemary to clear the energy of the crystal after you purchase it, suggests Panzarella. (You can also do this periodically or after each use.) Another way to use your crystals: Leave them outside, or on a windowsill, during a full moon to charge them, she says. This is believed to bring the crystal back to its natural vibration using the power of the moon.

What about crystal accessories?

Crystal accessories make it easy to incorporate crystal healing into your life. Here are a few options you can try, depending on your personal style:

Prayer Beads

Using a mala, or a prayer necklace with 108 beads, is a powerful way to use crystals in your meditation, say Panzarella and Randazzo. You can repeat an intention or mantra as you touch each bead or count them as an act of meditation. Many of these necklaces come with several kinds of crystals, so you can potentially reap many different benefits.

Wearing crystal necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or other jewelry is a powerful way to ensure you have good vibes with you at all times, says Randazzo. If you want to cultivate calmness, for example, you may reach for an amethyst stack, she suggests. Wearing crystal jewelry is a great way to make sure their energy always protects you, the experts agree.

If you’re looking to elevate the vibes at home, adding a crystal coaster to your coffee table might do the trick. Not only is it nice to look at, but it can bring the power of the crystal to your beverage.

Crystal-Infused Candles

Lighting a candle always brings good energy into your home. What if you could elevate it with the healing power of crystals? Purchasing candles with crystals in them can help to bring the energy of the crystal into your space.

Where should i buy crystals.

When buying crystals, it’s important to note where they were mined, say the experts. The crystal Larimar, which promotes healing and inner wisdom, is only found in the Dominican Republic. So, if the seller you’re buying from says it was mined in Tokyo, you’ll know it’s a fake, says Randazzo. If you’re shopping online, experts recommend Etsy and encourage checking the reviews. They discourage shopping from Amazon because the sellers tend to be unreliable with the sourcing of their crystals.

What’s the best crystal to wear every day?

Labbte recommends selenite, or clear quartz, for daily use because of its healing powers. Black tourmaline is another great everyday option due to its grounding qualities, adds Randazzo, who carries the stones on her and often wears jewelry incorporating these healing crystals.
