Tailor Made Journeys
South Korea Holidays
South Korea remains an enticingly underexplored slice of Asia. For many, it is still epitomized by the high stakes border skirmishes with its northern neighbour, the high kicking drama of taekwondo and the viral high jinks of ‘Gangnam style’. Yet, within this compact country lie many delights waiting to be discovered by those with a sense of adventure. Whether it’s historic temples, mist-clad mountains, remote archipelagos, tranquil rice paddies or neon-lit cities that you seek, we can tailor a trip that will leave you wondering why South Korea was not higher on your travel radar. History lovers are in for a real treat. South Korea’s powerhouse economy is edging its way towards the world’s top ten, but this remains a country where the pursuit of the modern goes hand-in-hand with a reverence for the ancient. The neon lights of Seoul sit alongside equally dazzling, meticulously restored palaces; and the ancient city walls, fortresses and burial mounds of Suwon and Gyeongju bring the country’s dynastic past vividly to life. Those wishing to explore traditional life, rather than modern marvels, are well served. Not far from high-tech cities can be found unchanging fishing villages, wooden hanok houses, serene rice paddies and islands where traditional life continues untouched by the ‘economic miracle’ of the 1970s. Hit the cities, and everything picks up a gear. The non-stop, neon-lit spectacle of South Korea’s thrilling urban centres offer plenty of opportunities to shop round-the-clock, knock back toasts with locals over a bottle of soju, and partake in late-night snacking at the city’s street food markets. It’s not all go, go, go, though. Over in the National Parks of Songnisan and Seoraksan there are cherry-blossom clad, misty mountains to wander through and there are plenty of beach paradise islands to take your pick from in the archipelagos that lie like confetti around the south coast - Jeju Island to name but one. South Korea is one of Asia’s best kept secrets, but we don’t think it will remain so for long.

Next, travel by high-speed train to Gyeongju , which was the ancient capital of the Silla Kingdom for nearly a thousand years. During private touring, visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other highlights such as the Daereungwon tumuli complex of royal tombs; Bulguksa, a Buddhist temple dating from the eighth century; Wolji Pond; Seokguram Seokgul, a stone grotto temple; Cheomseongdae observatory; and Gyeongju National Museum, which exhibits gold crowns and other masterpieces of the Silla period. Other touring options around Gyeongju include Golgulsa Temple and the traditional village of Yangdong.
Spend two nights in Busan , South Korea's second largest city and a bustling port town known for its beaches, surrounding mountains and temples. Enjoy private touring of the highlights of Busan, including temples, Dalmaji-gil Road and Jagalchi Fish Market.
Return to Seoul for additional time in the exciting capital of South Korea. If desired, take a fascinating excursion to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and Joint Security Area (JSA) at Panmunjom. Alternatively, continue private city touring. Options include visiting the Zaha Hadid-designed Dongdaemun Design Plaza, walking along scenic Cheonggyecheon Stream, touring Gyeongbokgung Palace and additional royal palaces, visiting the National Folk Museum of Korea, learning about Confucian traditions at Jongmyo Shrine, eating fresh sashimi at Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, walking through trendy neighborhoods such as Myeongdong to see the latest fashions and pop culture (including K-Pop), visiting high-end fashion boutiques and restaurants in Gangnam, going to the top of N Tower, hiking in the mountains surrounding Seoul, stopping by top art galleries and visiting the vibrant Hongdae university district.

Arrive in Seoul and spend the rest of the day acquainting yourself with the city, pausing to taste Korean cuisine in one of the capital’s many restaurants.
Spend the day with a private guide and driver, taking in the city’s highlights. Begin with the imposing Gyeongbokgung Palace, whose architecture has been restored to give you a taste of Korea in days gone by. You can also stop at the expansive Namdaemun Market to try some street food for lunch before exploring Bukchon Hanok Village and its cluster of traditional Korean houses, as well as the lively area of Insadong.
Spend the morning driving up to the DMZ at the border with North Korea. Here, you’ll gain an insight into the conflict that has spanned decades and continents. When you return to Seoul, head out on a food tour through the backstreets of Insadong. You’ll try a variety of classic Korean dishes and traditional drinks while learning about their significance.
This morning, take the KTX bullet train across the country to Busan in the southeast. You’ll have the afternoon at leisure to either relax on the sands of Haeundae Beach or check out the street food market nearby.
Your driver-guide will drive you north for an hour to the coastal city of Gyeongju, once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla. Here, you can visit temples and other historic sites while discovering more about what life was like during the Silla dynasty. You can also find out how Buddhism, Confucianism, and foreign influences have played their part in modern Korean society. The tour ends with an hour’s drive south to the city of Busan in the southeast.
Busan is often praised as having one of the most striking cityscapes in Asia. Knowing this, your guide will begin your exploration of the city at the top of the 120 m (400 ft) Busan Tower, which gives you far-reaching views over the skyline. You then head down for some street food, browsing the stalls in both the Jagalchi and Bupyeong markets, which have helped Busan earn its reputation as the culinary capital of the country.
Today, head out with a guide to see the Gamcheon Culture Village. The village comprises a kaleidoscope of brightly painted houses spilling out across the rolling hills surrounding the city. Afterwards, visit Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, which is perched precariously over the cliffs overlooking the Sea of Japan.
Take the KTX bullet train back to Seoul to round off your South Korean adventure. You can spend the day at your leisure seeing any city sights you’ve missed or shopping in one of the many department stores.
You’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport for your flight home.

South Korea Luxury Tour
12 days / 11 nights
South Korea Temples and Traditions
Immerse your family in Korean history and culture with this 11-night South Korea luxury tour. This itinerary incorporates plenty of outdoor activities with fascinating historical sites, including a day spent learning Buddhist martial arts techniques and an overnight stay in a traditional Korean hanok.
Your journey begins in the high-energy city of Seoul. There’s plenty to do in the city that never sleeps. Take in the city’s historic sites like the Gyeongbokgung Palace and Hanok villages. Stroll through over 5,000 independent shops and food stalls at the Gwangjang Market. Be sure to enjoy some street food while you’re there. Spend a morning hiking along the Seoul City Wall which runs for 11 miles along the ridge of the four mountains surrounding the inner city. The Namsan Mountain Trail is just over 2.5 miles and has particularly good views of the wall for almost the entire trail.
Just outside of Seoul, visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which separates North and South Korea. Surprisingly, the DMZ receives 1.2 million visitors a year. From the Dorasan Observatory, you’ll have panoramic views over the DMZ and Gijeongdong, also known as “Propaganda Village.”
Transfer by the KTX high-speed train to Andong, a fascinating city devoted to Korean folk traditions cultural heritage. During the Joseon dynasty, Andong became the center of Confucianism in Korea. Visit Dosanseowan Confucian Academy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by Confucian scholar Toegye Yi Hwang in the 16th century CE. Also visit the Hahoe Cultural Village, another UNESCO World Heritage site.
Spend the night at Rakkojae Andong Hahoe Hanok Hotel, located within the Hahoe Cultural Village. A stay at the Rakkojae Andong Hahoe Hanok Hotel is like stepping back in time. The hotel features four choga (thatch-roof) houses, each with its own bathroom, and Korean antiques. Sleep on traditional Korean-style beds on the floor, which features under-floor heating for chilly nights. You’ll also relax in the wood-fired sauna and dine on traditional Korean dishes.
The cultural city of Gyeongju is about an hour and a half from Andong. Its national museum contains a number of Silla Dynasty-era cultural artifacts. Visit the Silla-era royalty tomb mounds at Daereungwon Tomb Complex. Then spend some time at the Cheomseongdae Observatory, the oldest standing astronomic observatory in Asia. After sunset, walk around the Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond. It is especially magical at night when the palace and pond are spectacularly lit.
Spend a day at Golgulsa Temple to experience temple life and learn Korean Buddhist martial arts ( sunmudo) . You’ll have a training session, tea with a Buddhist monk, participate in archery, spend time meditating, and get to watch a Sunmudo demonstration.
Busan is a bustling port city located on the southeastern tip of the Korean Peninsula. You’ll find mountains, beaches, hot springs, and incredible seafood in South Korea’s second-largest city. En route to Busan, climb up to Seokguram Grotto on Tohamsan Mountain. It’s South Korea’s only granite stone temple and dedicated to the Buddha’s enlightenment. Explore Bulguksa Temple, which serves as a head temple of Korean Buddhism.
In Busan, visit Gamcheon Cultural Village, often referred to as the “Machu Picchu of Busan.” The homes were originally built on the mountain slope in the 1920s and ’30s. But in 2009, a public art-themed renovation converted the village into the cultural hub it is today. The homes are now painted in bright colors, undoubtedly creating one of Busan’s most colorful spots. Visit one of South Korea’s largest markets, Gukje, and tour the Jagalchi Fish Market. It is one of the largest in all of Asia.
Head to the Busan Railway Station for your KTX journey back to Seoul, which takes just under three hours. On arrival to Seoul, your guide will collect you from the station for the transfer to Four Seasons Hotel Seoul for your last night. Your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the hotel’s world class spa or to do some last-minute shopping.

Luxury Travel to Seoul
South Korea ’s capital and by far its largest city with a metropolitan area home to over half the country’s entire population, Seoul is one of East Asia’s major centres of culture and commerce.
A dichotomic mix of bleeding edge technology and tradition, an incredible work ethic and serene Buddhist temples, utterly unique youth subcultures and conformity, it is a city long popular with Asian tourists that’s gradually being discovered by those from the West.
Bisected by the Han River into the northern historic ‘Gangbuk’ and modern southern ‘Gangnum’ halves, Seoul is further divided into 25 districts, known as gu, each with an area and population comparable to a small city. With these each having their own centre, the whole metropolis has no true core, much like Los Angeles. Thankfully getting around is easy as Seoul enjoys an incredibly comprehensive, modern and genuinely pleasant metro system.
Sites to see include five major palaces, numerous temples and many museums. Food lovers will be spoilt with delectable street food, busy markets and great restaurants while numerous and vast nightlife districts play host to one of the liveliest city scenes in the world. Getting out of town, the surrounding mountains reward hikers with spectacular city views.

Vol.7 釜山の夜景 豪華客船からの眺望 釜山のハイライト Night view of Busan View from a luxury cruiser Highlights of Busan
無事、釜山での全ての 行程を終えて、 ダイヤモンドプリンセスのクルーズ船 (豪華客船)に戻りました。
サンセットと共に。 空に次元調整の神々降臨。
After successfully completing all of our trips in Busan, we returned to the Diamond Princess cruise ship (luxury liner).
With the sunset, Dimensional adjustment gods descend in the sky.
クルーズターミナルから 豪華客船内に戻って 最後まで夜景を楽しみます。
Return to the luxury cruise ship from the cruise terminal and enjoy the night view until the end.
釜山は夜景が綺麗な街ですね。 海雲台の方のダイヤモンドブリッジも ネオンがギラギラに輝き、 釜山の街は 夜景に力を入れていて好きです。
Busan is a city with a beautiful night view. The Diamond Bridge near Haeundae is also glittering with neon lights. I like the city of Busan because it puts a lot of emphasis on the night view.
船の上で出港を待ちます。
全仕事終えて 船の上で夜景を眺めながら リラックスする時間は最高です!
Waiting for departure on the ship.
It's the best time to relax while looking at the night view on the boat after finishing all our work!
We then left Busan by crossing the neon-lit Busan Bridge.
This trip to Busan was thanks to a wonderful private driver, and we were able to connect with Lotte Hotel and high-class Korean BBQ restaurants, and we were very satisfied as I became closer to Busan!
From Fukuoka in Japan, it's closer than going to Tokyo, so it's a great place to come and visit.
Since it is a city by the sea, it is relaxing and is a recommended destination for those who want to enjoy Korea in a more relaxing way than Seoul.
The Republic of Korea dimensional adjustment journey ended in Busan and then headed to another city in the Republic of Korea.

South Korea's luxury culture is under threat, as new license plates target tax cheats
W hether or not you have heard the hit song "Gangnam Style" that sprung to the number 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012, it is no secret that South Korea has an obsession with luxury brands.
From one aspect, these highbrow tastes can be reflected in Korean consumer's desire for high-end clothing and cosmetics. Fashion and jewelry houses like LVMH's ( LVMHF ) Christian Dior, Céline, Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari see the Land of Tigers as a key market in Asia — so much so that the brands employ the country's fresh-faced and internationally famous pop stars to serve as brand ambassadors and appear on international advertising campaigns.

The Korean well-to-do also have a sizable appetite for expensive luxury cars. According to data from the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA), more than 26,722 foreign luxury cars priced at the equivalent of $100,000 were sold in South Korea in 2023, a figure that has tripled since 2019.
While the luxury car market grew at a rapid pace over that four-year period, a recent report shows that auto sales from high-end brands like Bentley, Porsche and Rolls-Royce have taken a huge nose dive since the start of 2024 due to an issue that might give such cars an ugly mark.
As per a report in The Korea Times, purchases of ultra-luxury brands like Bentley, Porsche and Rolls-Royce have taken a massive nosedive after new legislation affecting company cars has taken effect in the beginning of the year.
View the original article to see embedded media.
The law, which was introduced by the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, requires cars priced over 80 million Korean won, or roughly $57,945, that are registered to businesses to wear bright, neon lime-green license plates that clearly indicate that said cars are not privately-owned vehicles.
The ministry claims that the new rule would stop Korean business owners from evading sales taxes. Under the old rule, Korean business owners and their relatives could register expensive cars as company cars to pay a lower tax rate than through private channels.
The new ruling seems to be working, as the thought of a new Bentley, Porsche or Rolls wearing a bright green license plate would not only be a fashion faux-pas, but a bright green target for the Korean taxman. As a result, the Korea Times is reporting that new registrations of foreign brands have shrunk dramatically.

Compared with the same period in 2023, new registrations of Porsche ( POAHY ) vehicles are down 23%, BMW-owned ( BMWYY ) Rolls-Royce down 35%, with the worst falloff being felt by Volkswagen-owned ( VLKAF ) British ultra-luxury brand Bentley, whose sales are down 77%. Additionally, in the period spanning from January to March 2024, Lamborghini sales slumped 22% in South Korea.
“Generally speaking, few customers or business owners prefer to purchase vehicles with green plates due to the prevalent negative image on rental and lease cars,” a brand rep from an unnamed luxury automaker told The Korea Times. “This will weaken the overall sentiment from business owners who plan to purchase luxury cars as fleet vehicles.”
Statistics from the Korea Times show that 40% of total car registrations in 2023 were company cars, a figure that is currently down to just 28%. However, domestic economic factors are also shifting the attitudes of South Korean buyers.
“As the economy is showing no immediate signs of a rebound, demand for pricey vehicles declines,” an unnamed auto executive told the Korea Times.
“To make matters worse, the regulation also comes as a bane for such supercar makers to rev up their diminishing sales performance here,” an exec from a different automaker said.
