• Sturdy ABS plastic construction.
• Large, flexible metal pocket clip.
• One blue ink cartridge .
• To prevent the ink cartridge from being punctured in transit, this pen comes with a cardboard spacer ring between the barrel and grip section. The ring must be removed before using the pen.
• This pen may come with ink residue in the nib from being dip tested by LAMY at the factory. As with all new fountain pens, we recommend giving your pen a good cleaning before you use it.

The 2022 special editions features cozy strawberry and cream colors that are matte and feature a matching clip.

We have a hassle-free return policy at Pen Place which allows you to return any non-personalized item, for any reason, within fourteen (14) days of the date of receipt. The delivery date will be determined by your UPS or USPS tracking number. If you wish to return an item within the fourteen (14) days allowed, please ensure the item is in new condition and has all original packaging that were shipped with your order.

Pen Place will return your communication to approve or disapprove return of the item. If the return is due to the wrong product or damaged product being shipped, Pen Place will send and pay for a return label. Otherwise, the customer will pay for and supply the return label. Refunds will be processed when the item is received at Pen Place. The customer will be refunded to the credit card or PayPal account they paid with and will be the next day after the item is received by Pen Place. Returns will be shipped back to:

Exceptions to the Return Policy

Shipping charges will not be refunded unless we made an error in the order or the item was damaged. Items that have been engraved cannot be returned unless their was a misspelling of the name.  If an item is returned, but is not in new condition, the item will be returned to you and you will not receive a refund. There is a 10% restocking fee for all returns. Items marked Special Order will be charged a restocking fee of 30% of the MSRP.

LAMY safari Fountain Pen - A Special Edition History

Every year, LAMY produces a special edition of the popular LAMY safari fountain pen, sometimes even in multiple colors. Here we've compiled a visual look back at all of the annual special edition LAMY safari fountain pens that have been available in the United States, for at least as long as Goulet Pens has been around.

The Colors: 

2024: blackberry violet, pink cliff.

One of two special edition colors for 2024 in the kewi collection! blackberry violet  features a glossy dark purple barrel and cap, with a light purple finial and grip section. pink cliff  features a matte blue-grey barrel and cap, with a pink finial and grip section. Both pens have a black trim and a black clip. Matching inks were also released, in  blackberry  and cliff .

2023:  aquasky, lightrose, and springgreen

Another set of three pastel colors for 2023! The  aquasky light blue, the lightrose pink, and the springgreen fountain pens each have a glossy pastel resin barrel and cap, with color-matched trim. Each comes equipped with a silver steel nib.

These three pastel colors are similar to the 2019 special editions, but a bit more vibrant in color.

2022: strawberry, and cream

The LAMY safari fountain pen in strawberry features a matte red body with a matching red clip and a silver steel nib.

The cream  version features a matte ivory body with a matching ivory clip and a silver steel nib.

2021 : terra, and savannah

These two colors serve as an homage to the original LAMY safari fountain pen colors from the 1980's.

terra  features a matte orange-red body, complemented by a black clip and a black steel nib.

savannah  features a matte olive green body, with a black clip and a black steel nib.

2020 : aquamarine, mango, and violet

These three vibrant special edition colors were dubbed the "candy" collection.

The mango featured a yellow-orange body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib. A matching yellow-orange ink was also made available separately in bottles and ink cartridges.

The aquamarine version featured an aqua turquoise body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib.

Finally, the LAMY safari fountain pen in violet featured an all-purple body, clip, and finial, and a silver steel nib.

2019 : Blue Macaron, Mint Glaze, and Powder Rose

In 2019, three colors were introduced together as a special edition collection for the first time. These three LAMY safari fountain pen special edition colors were known together as the Pastel collection.

Blue Macaron featured a glossy pastel blue barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

Mint Glaze came with a glossy pastel green barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

Finally, the Powder Rose featured a glossy pastel pink barrel and cap, with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

2018 : All Black

A totally stealthed-out special edition! This LAMY safari fountain pen in all black featured a matte black barrel and cap, a black clip, and a black steel nib.

2017 : Petrol

Another very popular special edition! This matte teal LAMY safari fountain pen in petrol  came with a black clip and a black steel nib. A matching petrol teal ink was also made available separately in bottles and ink cartridges.

2016 : Dark Lilac

Definitely the most popular LAMY safari special edition ever, to this day. The LAMY safari fountain pen in  dark lilac was the first purple safari. It was also the first of the popular matte versions in the special edition series. This fountain pen came with a black clip and a black steel nib, and an incredibly popular bottled ink and ink cartridges that sold out far too quickly. It now has a cult-like following!

2015 : NeonLime

The final installment in a trend of bright yellow-greens was the neonlime. This LAMY safari special edition fountain pen featured a bright glossy neon yellow-green barrel and cap, silver clip, and a silver steel nib. In addition, it was accompanied by a matching neonlime bottled ink and ink cartridges.

2014 : Neon Coral

Continuing the neon trend was the bright glossy pink/orange neon coral. This special edition fountain pen came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

2013 : Neon Yellow

The first in a series of bright, neon colors was Neon Yellow . It came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

2012 : Apple Green

This glossy apple green LAMY safari fountain pen came with a silver clip, and a silver steel nib.

Originally released as a special edition, it was later re-released as a regular edition under the name " green ".

2011 : Aquamarine

A glossy bright turquoise color, this LAMY safari special edition in aquamarine came with a silver clip and a silver steel nib.

Later re-released as a regular edition, the aquamarine color was discontinued once again.

About the LAMY safari fountain pen:

The LAMY safari is a workhorse pen, known throughout the fountain pen community for its ruggedness, reliability, and no-nonsense functionality. The triangular grip makes it great for those starting out who have no idea how to hold a fountain pen. However, it's used and loved by fountain pen lovers of all levels of experience.

Lamy Safari strawberry & cream

Yesterday (April 2) I had the opportunity to purchase the two Lamy Safari SE for 2022 at the Penshow in Cologne/Germany.

Since the technical details of the Lamy Safari are known worldwide, I won't do a full review here, but only show a few pictures for colour comparison and report on the price

Packaging and scope of delivery 

The pen comes in the usual Lamy box, a Lamy cartridge (blue) is included.

As a special pen show offer, I got a Z28 converter for each pen.

Colours, design and finish

The finish is matt (like the SE Safaries of previous years), the O-ring between body and grip is the same colour as the rest of the pen.

The cap finial (with the typical Lamy + sign for fountain pen) and clip are also in the same colour as the pen.

Colour comparison

In direct comparison with the standard red safari and also with the standard yellow safari (unfortunately I don't have a white one to compare) you can perhaps judge the colours a little better. The paper is a Rhodia dotpad No 18 (white); the light is a warm white LED lamp.

The RRP in Germany is 22.00€ (incl. tax), which is 1€ above the normal RRP of the Safari. However, you can get the standard Safari at almost all retailers (both brick and mortar shops and on the net) at special offers, sometimes under 15€. From experience, the SE pens are also offered cheaper after a year. So if you can wait, you will save a few €.

What I paid

As I said at the beginning, I bought them at the Cologne pen show, at the table of Regina Martini (she is a dealer and author, a well-known and respected personality among pen enthusiasts in Germany). She offered the pair including two Z28 converts for 45.00€ (tax included). Since a single Z28 already costs 4.50€ (incl. tax), this would come to a very fair price of 18.00€ per pen. Basically, however, one must also note that Lamy has apparently increased the prices for the Safari and the Al-Star in Germany by about 5%. With current inflation of over 7%, this seems understandable.

You will be forgiven that you cannot, but never more that you do not want to.

AL-star 2024 Special Edition Fountain Pen

Since it’s the part of the fountain pen that touches the paper, the nib has a major impact on how each pen writes. Most LAMY fountain pens feature Extra Fine , Fine , Medium and Broad nibs, so here’s a look at each nib size and what it does best.

Extra Fine nibs are sharp and precise, with the narrowest line in the LAMY range. EF nibs excel at detailed handwriting and updating your busy schedule in your diary, and also leave the least ink on the page, helping it to dry faster. Perfect for those with tight, neat handwriting.

Fine nibs are a touch broader than EF nibs, allowing the ink to flow more generously, which creates a richer line on the page, and also lets the pen glide more gracefully across the page.

Medium nibs are broader again, delivering a thick, vivid line as it moves across the page. That extra ink also helps the pen to flow as you write, and makes your handwriting look even more lively and vibrant. If you’re starting out with fountain pens, a Medium nib is a great introduction.

Broad nibs make for handwriting that’s full of flourishes and line variations, which lends a vibrancy to letters, notes and journal entries. It’s a lively experience, and can be quite stunning, but the amount of ink on the page means it can be hard to manage for fountain pen newcomers, with greater chances of blurring or smudging.

How does it work.

We use a state of the art laser engraving machine which gently etches away the top layer of the pen to reveal the base metal underneath. The colour of engraving depends on the base metal underneath. Lacquered pens tend to engrave with a brass finish, whilst chrome pens with a subtle two tone effect (check preview on every product page). We also offer 3 font choices;

What can I engrave?

We can engrave any letter, number or character that can entered from a standard computer keyboard, in any language. This includes English, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, Cyrillic etc.

We can engrave UTF8 symbols. Either choose from our list or copy and paste your own.

Each pen has a limit to the amount of characters we can engrave due to its size and curvature. Look out for the character limit on each product page. If you cant quite fit your message with the allowable characters, please call us and we will see what we can do.

Returns Information

Please return any unwanted items within 21 days of purchase to be eligible for an exchange/refund. The item must still be in a re-saleable condition and returned with proof of purchase. Items that have been personalised cannot be returned unless they are faulty.

• - Ilinka Street. The financial street of the Kitaigorod (China Town) district, where you’ll find the Gostiny Dvor (Merchant’s Yard), which is now a showroom for Ferraris and Maseratis. The street was designed in the 1790s by Catherine the Great.

At 3:30, as energy flagged, lunch was on the agenda at a Ukrainian restaurant.  Just in time!  We asked our guide to order for us.  We all had the same thing....borscht (the Ukrainian version has beans and more tomatoes than the Russian version, which has more beets and includes beef). 

The special high bread served is called galushki.  Our main course was golubtsy...a dish of minced meat rolled in braised cabbage leaves.  Both dishes called for optional sour cream as a topping....of course, yes, please....I recommend it. 

Full, satisfied, and completely refreshed, it was off to Red Square and St. Basil's and GUM department store.  Red Square is not so named because of the color of the brick walls of the Kremlin.  Rather the word for 'red' and the word for 'beautiful' are similar in pronunciation....and, there you have it. 

As we made the turn by the National Museum in front of which is the mounted sculpture of the "Marshall of Victory," Giorgy Zhukov from WWII and caught our first view of St. Basil's, my friend and I simultaneously emitted "Oooohhhhh!"  There it was....the iconic onion domes of St. Basil's!  Hooray....it was open until 7....we had about 30 minutes and were allowed in, AND we could take photos with no flash. 

Now, I can give you a taste of what we saw in the other cathedrals in Cathedral Square.  What we learned is that St. Vasily and St. Basil are one in the same....Russian/English.  He was a common man who wandered Moscow unclothed and barefoot.  But, all, even Ivan the Terrible, heeded his opinions derived from his visions.  Ivan had this cathedral built over his tomb. 

As we exited and took photos up close of the onion domes, Inna presented us with chocolate (how did she know we were ready for another energy boost, and we each got a big piece of chocolate.  The baby's name pictured on the wrapper of this famous Russian chocolate is Alyonka....the Russian Gerber baby, don't you think? 

One could wear out the credit card in GUM's (capitalized because it is actually a government abbreviation), but the 'kitty' and my credit card stayed in my pocket as we strolled through the glass-topped arcade. 

We then strolled through some of Moscow's lovely pedestrian streets; paused to listen as a wonderful quartet performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" in an underground passage to cross the busy street (hooray!....we DID have our 'classical concert' experience after all; a request Alina tried in vain to fill because none was scheduled those days), saw the Bolshoi, which means 'big' (my friend has yet to recover that their performance schedule did not coincide with our cruise), saw the Central Telegraph Building, dating from the 1930's, and made our way to the Ritz-Carlton to see the night view of Moscow from the rooftop bar, called O2. 

There were fleece blankets to wrap yourself in....yes, it got that cold when the sun set.  We each ordered something hot to drink...the ginger, mint, lemon tea served to me in a parfait glass (for 600 rubles...about $9....you pay for the view here!) was delightful and hit the spot perfectly.  It was time to call it a night....

Try chilling out out at one the city's 700-odd fountains

Summer heat has finally returned to Moscow. And while the city is more famous for ice and snow, it does get its fair share of scorchers. If you're sweltering in the Russian capital on a hot summery day, try chilling out out at one the city's 700-odd fountains. They're not meant for taking a dip (though the “no swimming” signs are often flagrantly ignored) but the spray can be refreshing and the people-watching – priceless. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Bolshoi grandeur:

The city's oldest fountain is across the road from the Bolshoi Theatre , behind the Karl Marx statue at Teatralnaya Ploshchad. Dating back to 1835, this classical composition is called the Vitali fountain after its creator, the Russian-born sculptor of Italian descent Ivan Vitali . Allegorical figures around the base represent Poetry, Tragedy, Comedy and Music. The other fountain immediately in front of the theatre has a less illustrious history but the surrounding seating makes it more functional and it remains focal point and a popular meeting place, especially before shows at the Bolshoi.

Fairytales and fantasy:

Alexander Garden , beside the Kremlin, is an obligatory stop on any tourist's itinerary. Besides many other sights (including the high-kicking changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier), there's a fantastical fountain composition by the prolific Zurab Tsereteli. Fairytale animals and characters stand in the waters alongside the Manezh mall's cafe strip – if you're familiar with the works of Krylov, you might recognise some of them. On neighbouring Manezh Square you can see the other half of Tsereteli's composition – including a fountain called “Geyser” and four sculptural horses representing the seasons.

Soviet spectacular:

Moscow's most mind-blowing fountains would have to be at VDNKh . At this vast Soviet-era park and Stalinist pavilion complex, you can see a truly amazing gilded extravaganza featuring a central column of wheat, sunflowers and hemp surrounded by 16 golden girls representing the Soviet republics (even the short-lived Karelo-Finnish SSR). Behind it, the no-less spectacular Stone Flower fountain, inspired by Ural Mountains fairytales, shimmers with glittery mosaics and stones from the Urals, while sculptures of fruit and jugs represent plenitude.

Poetry and romance:

In 1831, Alexander Pushkin wed the beautiful Natalya Goncharova in the Great Ascension Church at Ploshchad Nikitskikh Vorot, where Bolshaya Nikitskaya Ulitsa intersects with the Boulevard Ring. Right in front of the church you can see sculptures of the couple inside the “Natalya and Alexander” fountain-rotonda, unveiled in 1999 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the great poet's birth. The water is claimed to be drinkable thanks to charcoal filtration, but we wouldn't risk it. By the way, Goncharova is said to have lived right nearby, where the Spanish Embassy is now located.

Fun at Gorky Park:

Gorky Park 's central square is dominated by a vast but shallow fountain with unusually low sides. That might explain why it's most renowned for scenes of border guards and paratroopers exuberantly taking a traditional dip on their annual professional holidays, which fall on May 28 and August 2, respectively. Previously there was a different fountain at this site, graced by the iconic (but sadly destroyed) “Girl With Oar” statue; the present fountain dates to 1980 when it was opened to mark the Moscow Olympics. Watch out for light and music shows, when the the spouting water is colourfully illuminated and “dances” to classical music.

Light and music shows:

If you want to experience an even more elaborate light and music show, head out to the Tsaritsyno palace and park estate. The Middle Pond, where Catherine the Great once enjoyed watching fireworks over the water, now has a fountain equipped with a sophisticated squirting mechanism allowing it to out-dance any of Moscow's other fancy fountains. The 807 jets can shoot water 15 metres into the air in time with the music, while more than 3,000 underwater lights add to the stunning visual show. The water droplets are said to sparkle like diamonds, and overall the visual effect is meant to resemble an 18th-century crystal chandelier.
