Magic Tour Highlights

The Magic Tour was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2007–2008 concert tour of North America and Western Europe.

The tour began October 2, 2007, in Hartford, Connecticut, and concluded August 30, 2008 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was his first tour with the E Street Band since 2004's Vote for Change shows and the first prolonged outing with them since the 2002–2003 Rising Tour.

After the conclusion of the tour's first leg on November 19, 2007, organist Danny Federici took a leave of absence from the tour, to pursue treatment for melanoma. He was replaced by Charles Giordano, who had played with Springsteen on the 2006 Sessions Band Tour. Federici made his only return to the stage on March 20, 2008, during the tour's third leg, when he appeared for portions of a show in Indianapolis. He died on April 17, 2008; the next two shows of the tour were postponed.

The Magic Tour was one of the biggest tours of the year and won the 2008 Billboard Touring Awards for Top Tour, Top Draw, and Top Manager (for Jon Landau). The Magic Tour had the second-highest gross worldwide for 2008 in Billboard's rankings, with $204.5 million and trailing only Bon Jovi's Lost Highway Tour. In Pollstar's calculus for North America, the Magic Tour had the sixth-highest gross for 2008 at $69.3 million. In any case, in total over its two years, the Magic Tour grossed more than $235 million.

Recordings [ ]

Early on the first leg, the starting three songs (one more than planned) of the October 10, 2007 Continental Airlines Arena show were broadcast live over VH1 Classic. Throughout much of the tour, video clips of one performance from a show, usually cut down to a one- to two-minute excerpt, would be posted on Springsteen's official website.

On July 4, 2008, with much fanfare, Sirius Satellite Radio's E Street Radio channel broadcast selected songs from the show that day at the Ullevi in Göteborg, Sweden, although in practice there was much more of host Dave Marsh talking with phone callers than there was of the concert.

On July 15, 2008, Springsteen released the live audio and video EP Magic Tour Highlights , which collected guest appearances from the third leg, including Federici's only return.

Several shows were released as part of the Bruce Springsteen Archives:

  • Scottrade Center, St. Louis, MO, 8/23/08 , released April 14, 2017
  • TD Banknorth Garden, Boston 11/19/07 , released April 6, 2018

The tour featured some of the largest venues, biggest crowds, and enthusiastic performances from the band. In 1987, Mercury was diagnosed with AIDS and the band together made the decision to stop touring, making the concert at Knebworth on 9 August 1986 the last time that the four original members of Queen performed on stage together. The Knebworth concert is regarded as the pinnacle of the tour, and is often represented in photography by a frantic swarm of helicopters branded under the 'magic' emblem.

From this tour, Queen have since released Live at Wembley on VHS, Laserdisc, CD and DVD, Live Magic on CD and Live in Budapest on VHS and Laserdisc (later re-released and retitled as Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest on DVD, Blu-ray and Deluxe editions).

  • Oliver Chickly III
  • Polly Roger
  • Baron Karlott
  • Tiara Damáge
  • Moe Whiplash

  • Dale (depicted as in Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers ) ††
  • Jiminy Cricket † ††

† Initially unplayable †† Appears outside of game

Racing vehicles vary depending on the track. There are, for example, logs at Splash Mountain , locomotives at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad , "Doom Buggies" at the Haunted Mansion , and Time Rovers at DINOSAUR .

Storyline [ ]

Jiminy Cricket greets the player and tells a story that he hopes is "sure to make you smile". One morning, Chip and Dale are out gathering acorns in the Magic Kingdom when they discover a small door in the side of Cinderella Castle . After going through the door, they discover the Walt Disney World Magic Machine, a contraption that shoots firework shows every night. When they get close to it, Dale accidentally drops some of the acorns he collected into it, causing it to stop functioning. They run for cover as it explodes, scattering several pieces across the resort. With the help of several park visitors, they race across the resort to find the pieces and reassemble the machine before the show starts that night.

  • Jiminy Cricket

Jiminy is a courteous, gentle storyteller who loves to tell jokes and sing songs. He’s also the most knowledgeable when it comes to racing and Walt Disney World. He taught Chip and Dale everything they know about both. But watch out if he ever ends up behind the steering wheel, because he knows the best routes to use, and every track is his specialty.

  • Chip and Dale

Chip and Dale often race around Walt Disney World collecting nuts for the winter. Now they must collect the Fireworks Machine pieces before the end of the day! Chip is smart and practical, and he uses his brains whenever he races. So be careful, or Chip will sneak past you faster than you can say “acorn”. Dale enjoys life to the fullest, and doesn’t take anything seriously. And though he is a bit scatterbrained, he somehow manages always to be near first place at the end of a race. Call it blind luck or a charmed life, either way Dale is always a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack.

Amanda is the most famous, cutest child actress in the world. It’s no surprise that she absolutely loves being recognized at the Disney Studios. Where else can she continue to work and still have tons of fun on her days off the movie set? She is always sweet and nice and cute...unless she’s behind the wheel! When Amanda is in the driver’s seat, she doesn’t get upstaged! She races to win!

Here’s one girl who has a hard time acting her age! Normally a 13-year old would relate to the Disney Princesses , but alas, she does not. She feels as though the Disney Villains have been hard done by, and that includes her friend, Baron Karlott. This “Queen” is going to make sure everyone else feels the same way...by beating all the racers to the finish line!

Root'n Toot'n Sheriff'n is what he wants to do. He’s spent many a day trying to keep Bruno Biggs under control! This kid mostly moseys around at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad , where the West is still Wild. Moe saunters around at a snail’s pace, but there’s nothing slow about the way he drives!

Otto has spent most of his short life around cars and experiments. It’s a no-brainer to think he would be attracted to Test Track at Epcot . But he’s no crash dummy; he’s one of the smartest kids around. And the rest of the gang love him ‘coz he helps them fix their vehicles! He is the classic educated techie-nerd. Word is he soups up his cars so he can’t lose! Keep an eye on him!

Bruno is a huge fan of the world’s most famous mouse. The more he’s at Walt Disney World, the closer he can be to Mickey . He’s big, and mean, and tough. Don’t mess with him! Bruno is impatient and doesn’t like people getting in his way...especially on the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster , his favorite attraction.

Polly dreams of action and adventure. Captaining her own Spanish galleon and searching for buried treasure is all she can think about. But for now Walt Disney World and history books are her escape. That’s why Polly is an expert at navigating the mysterious waterways of the Pirates of the Caribbean .

Baron is a modern day descendant of the famous Karlott bloodline. He continually strives to keep his ancestors happy, otherwise they come and visit...from the grave. That is why he feels right at home in the Haunted Mansion , and also why he drives with such a “grave” purpose.

The son of a famous explorer and paleontologist, Oliver is proud to walk in his father’s shoes - even though they are a few sizes too big. He figured out that the perfect place to get started on his quest was Animal Kingdom . Oliver is very soft spoken and drives very carefully. But watch out! He may sneak past you on the back straightaways if you aren’t careful!

  • Ned Shredbetter

Ned surfs. Ned skates. Ned snowboards. Ned blades. He basically is an all-round cool dude. Ned also likes showing off his moves for Amanda Sparkle! The only other thing Ned likes just as much as shredding is chilling at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon . Ned is the classic beach bum, but there’s nothin’ laid back about his driving style...it’s all out!

This Xperimental Utility Duck was built to test out all the attractions at Walt Disney World. Unfortunately, he’s been bounced around and hit in the head a little too much. He prefers to stay in the world of Space Mountain because that’s where he gets his biggest charge. But when he’s out of his element, watch out for his driving...he’s wild, out of control and all over the place!

Voice Cast [ ]

  • Eddie Carroll as Jiminy Cricket
  • Tress MacNeille as Chip , Otto Plugnut, and Polly Roger
  • Corey Burton as Dale , Bruno Biggs, and Moe Whiplash
  • Michelle Horn as Amanda Sparkle and Tiara Damáge
  • Shaun Fleming as X.U.D. 71, Ned Shredbetter, Oliver Chickly III, and Baron Karlott

The soundtrack features authentic Disney music from the attractions, with the exception of Space Mountain, which features music from the Disneyland version (due to the game being released nine years before "Starry-O-Phonic Sound" was installed on Florida's Space Mountain), and the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, which does not feature Aerosmith as the actual attraction does.

Interestingly, the soundtrack contains at least three holdovers from past Crystal Dynamics games. The music for DINOSAUR is lifted from the Prehistory Channel level of Gex: Enter the Gecko . The music for Blizzard Beach is lifted from Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko , albeit with the portion containing the Gex 3 theme replaced by a section of "Tis the Season to be Jolly". Lastly, the music for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is derived from Total Eclipse ’s Aqueous Major, the first level in the game. All of these games have been released on the PlayStation (Total Eclipse was released as "Total Eclipse: Turbo"), a console which it is also on.

  • The player does not need to get 1st place on the Splash Mountain course in order to win the game.
  • To unlock XUD, one must collect all of the fairies in each track. To unlock Ned, one must complete the trophy challenge.
  • Jiminy Cricket, Chip and Dale are the only pre-established characters playable in this game. Every other character is completely original.
  • The cover art used on the European release is likely a previous version of the art. The designs used for Otto and Ned (who is absent from the later cover art) are much different than the ones used in game.
  • Interestingly, a few months later, a Disney racing game was released for Nintendo 64, this being Mickey's Speedway USA . It's possible that Mickey's Speedway USA began conceptually as a Nintendo 64 port of this game but was later changed either because of technical limitations of the Nintendo 64, or because of contractual obligations with developers and publishers, as the Nintendo 64 game was developed by Rare instead of Crystal Dynamics.

Magical Mystery Tour (EP)

From beatles wiki - interviews, music, beatles quotes.

Magical Mystery Tour is an double EP by The Beatles , produced by George Martin , both including the six-song soundtrack to the 1967 film of the same name . The record format released in the United Kingdom on 8 December 1967, was a six-track double EP on the Parlophone label, whilst in the United States the record, released 11 days earlier, on 27 November 1967, was an eleven-track LP created by Capitol Records , adding the band's 1967 single releases.

The US LP was later adopted as the official version of the record when The Beatles' catalogue was updated for the 1980s digital Compact Disc releases. The album was remastered 9 September 2009 for the first time since its CD release. The soundtrack was a critical and commercial success, a #1 album in the US and Grammy-nominated , despite the relative critical and commercial failure of the Magical Mystery Tour film.

Initial release formats

The number of songs used in the film posed a problem for The Beatles and their UK record company EMI , as there were too few for an LP album but too many for an EP. Template:Sfn One idea considered was to issue an EP which played at 33 ⅓ rpm but this would have caused a loss of fidelity that was deemed unacceptable. The solution chosen was to issue an innovative format of two EP's packaged in a gatefold sleeve with a 28-page booklet containing the lyrics and colour pictures. Template:Sfn Of the package, Bob Neaverson wrote "While it certainly solved the song quota problem, one suspects that it was also partly born of The Beatles' pioneering desire to experiment with conventional formats and packaging". Template:Sfn The package was released in the UK on 8 December, in time for the Christmas market.

In the US, EPs were not popular at the time so (and against The Beatles' wishes) Capitol Records decided to release the soundtrack as an LP by adding some recent non-album singles. Template:Sfn The first side of the LP was the film soundtrack (like earlier British Beatles soundtrack albums), and the second side was a collection of A-side and B-sides released in 1967, with the songs "Penny Lane", "Baby, You're a Rich Man" and "All You Need Is Love" presented in duophonic , fake "processed" stereo, sound. Template:Sfn Template:Sfn

Note that on all stereo releases of both packages, "I Am the Walrus" is in true-stereo only part way through, after which the sound becomes fake-stereo.

When standardising The Beatles' releases for the worldwide Compact Disc release in 1987, the LP version of Magical Mystery Tour (in true-stereo) was included with the otherwise British album line-up. [1]

The inclusion of the 1967 singles on CD with this album meant both that the Magical Mystery Tour CD would be of comparable length to the band's other album CDs, and that those three singles would not need to be included on Past Masters , a two-volume compilation designed to accompany the initial CD album releases and provide all non-album tracks (mostly singles) on CD format. [2]

The album (along with The Beatles' entire UK studio album catalogue) was remastered and reissued on CD in 2009. In homage to the album's conception and first release, the CD incorporates the original Capitol LP label design. The remastered CD features a mini-documentary about the album. Initial copies of the album accidentally list the mini-documentary to be one made for Let It Be .

Critical reception [ ]

Dyne Hong praised, "a tour de force of entertainment," complimenting the visuals and stage designs, which made it "unforgettable." Hong added, "the expertly-crafted stage, high-energy crowd, stunning special effects, and multiple encores made for a truly theatrical experience." [4] In a review for San Francisco Chronicle , Todd Inoue detailed, "he took the audience through an emotional 2½-hour journey split into four acts: Fame, Isolation, Redemption and Acceptance. Each segment was broken up by video vignettes, signaling a momentum shift." Inoue continued, "After 25 songs, the concert was Wang's epiphanic statement on the price of fame and the value of personal power. More impressive than his physical feats was his mindset—he was less of a magician and more of a motivator, imploring his fans to manifest the magic inside them." [5] Writing for Atlas Artist Group, Olivia Khiel similarly called it "unforgettable," summarizing, "The first half of his extensive set let us into his emotional, vulnerable side while also getting the audience up to dance along." Of the final half, they said, "When Wang next emerged, the energy shift from restrained to aggressive was palpable. […] He's not afraid to explore his seductive side, a fact that everyone in attendance was more than happy to witness." [6]
