All eyes at SentryWorld will be focused on Wisconsin native Steve Stricker to see if he can claim a third consecutive senior major. (USGA/James Gilbert)

Thirty-nine years ago, a couple of future PGA Tour winners came to SentryWorld for the Wisconsin state high school championship that was won by Steve Stricker. Back then, the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course was still in its infancy, having opened just two years earlier.
Two renovations later – both supervised by Jones and his design team of Jay Blasi and Bruce Charlton – the daily-fee, parkland layout is playing host to its biggest event, the 43rd U.S. Senior Open. It’s the third USGA championship for SentryWorld, following the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links and 2019 U.S. Girls’ Junior.
“As I told my caddie, this is a proper golf course,” said Madison, Wis., native Jerry Kelly who competed in that 1984 high school competition. “This is a lot more than I expected. I think they did a fantastic job [with] the renovations. I don't have a whole lot of memory of what was here, but what is here now is really something special.”
Kelly, Stricker and the other 154 competitors assembled in Central Wisconsin will find a challenging 7,218-yard, par-71 course with narrow fairways and lush rough. Ernie Els, a two-time U.S. Open champion, said the rough is as thick and deep as any U.S. Open venue he’s played, including Oakmont.
“It's seriously one of the finest conditioned courses I've ever seen,” said the sweet-swinging South African. “Really well-done to the greens crew.”
While the course, which is owned by Sentry Insurance, is open to the public, it has been off limits to anyone since last fall for renovations and championship preparations.
“It's in great shape,” said Stricker, who snuck in a couple of practice rounds last week. “It’s in pure shape. Looking forward to the start of it.”
Here are 3 Things to Know going into the first two rounds:
Stricker Slam?
No golfer on the 50-and-older circuit has been hotter than Stricker. The Madison resident already has claimed the first two senior majors of 2023 – the Regions Tradition and Senior PGA Championship – and a victory this week would put him in position to be the first player in PGA Tour Champions history to claim all five majors in a calendar year. The final two majors are set for next month at Firestone Country Club (Kaulig Companies Championship) in Akron, Ohio, and Royal Porthcawl in Wales (Senior British Open).
Only Gary Player (1988), Jack Nicklaus (1991) and Bernhard Langer (2017) have claimed three majors in a calendar season.
The 56-year-old Stricker leads virtually every statistical category, including scoring average (67.20), rounds in the 60s (30), putting average (1.68), greens in regulation percentage (80.47) and scrambling (77.98). He enters the championship with four victories and four runner-up finishes in 11 starts on the PGA Tour Champions in 2023.
Factor in the home-state advantage and Stricker clearly is one of the favorites to hoist the trophy for a second time in four years.
“What Steve is doing right now is special, no question about it,” said Kelly, a longtime rival and friend. “He is at the top of his game, and I'm sure he's looking at it going, ‘If I would have made that putt, that putt, that putt, I would have won by 12 instead of six.’ That's the way we all think. But he is really firing on all parts of his game.”
Stricker will have his wife, Nicki, on the bag. She caddied when Stricker won this title in 2019 at the Warren Course at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
“Obviously, I'm feeling pressure this week,” said Stricker about trying to win in Wisconsin. “I want to play well. I want to compete and try to have the opportunity to win.”
Will Irish Eyes Smile Again?
Lost in all the Stricker and Wisconsin talk is the guy who won the title in 2022 in his first year of eligibility: Padraig Harrington. The Irishman arrives at SentryWorld fresh off a win last week in the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open in Endicott, N.Y., which included a second-nine 28 on Sunday.
Harrington, 51, also made the cut in the U.S. Open two weeks ago at The Los Angeles Country Club, tying for 27th.
A year ago at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., Harrington held off a Sunday charge by Stricker to post a one-stroke victory. Now he’ll look to become just the fourth back-to-back champion and first since Allen Doyle in 2005-06.
With the thick rough and tight, tree-lined fairways, one of the longest hitters on the senior circuit will find a course quite similar to that of Oak Hill in Rochester, N.Y., which he played in May at the PGA Championship (T-50).
“There are advantages on the golf course,” said Harrington. “But like a lot of times with golf, even if you have an advantage, you still have to play the best golf. If I play to my strengths, great, I'll be right there at the top of the leader board. But if I don't play to my strengths, then it just won’t work out.”
Beauty and the Beast
When the U.S. Senior Open competitors arrive at the par-3 16th at SentryWorld, they will notice some of the prettiest non-oceanfront scenery in the game. Called the Flower Hole, it is the course’s signature hole as more than 30,000 annuals are planted each spring by the maintenance staff.
The players, however, will have to mentally block out the aesthetics and focus on finding the green as the 16th measures 202 yards on the scorecard.
Players who happen to find the flowers won’t have to fret. They will be required to take mandatory free relief without suffering a penalty stroke.
No matter what happens on the hole, hopefully the players will find a moment to stop and smell the flowers.

Just when you thought Bernhard Langer was done surprising people with what he could do on the golf course comes his performance at the 43rd U.S. Senior Open. The 65-year-old German, on the precipice of becoming the all-time winningest golfer in PGA Tour Champions history, cruised to a two-shot victory over Steve Stricker Sunday at SentryWorld in Wisconsin, a margin that is deceiving when he was up by seven strokes at one point early in the back nine.
With a one-under 70 on Sunday after bogeys on the final three holes, Langer posted a seven-under 277 total that gave him his 46th senior title, passing Hale Irwin, who he had shared the mark with since February. In the process, Langer won a senior major for the 12th time, and became the oldest winner of the U.S. Senior Open by eight years, passing Allen Doyle’s previous mark of being just shy of his 58th birthday when he won in 2006 at NCR Country Club.
With the win, Langer also claimed the first-place prize money payout of $720,000 from an overall purse awarded by the USGA of $4 million. Here’s the prize money payouts for each golfer how made the cut in Wisconsin.

PGA Tour Champions Schedule 2024
Pga tour champions tournament details, mitsubishi electric championship.
Tournament History
Originally named the MONY Tournament of Champions, the event was played in California, Mexico, and Puerto Rico before finding a stable home in Hawaii. The inaugural tournament took off in 1984 when Orville Moody claimed a 7-stroke win over Dan Sikes.
Since then, the name has changed on eight occasions, with the current title sponsor, Mitsubishi, the longest-serving partner. The lush fairway and ocean backdrop of Haualalai golf club has been on the Senior PGA Tour schedule since 2006.
The Kona-based golf course is a par 72 design and measures 7,117 yards off the back tees on an average day.
⛳️ Fun Fact: When Senior Golf Source polled the PGA Tour Champions caddies, this was their favorite location, with Pebble Beach in a close second.
Chubb Classic
The Chubb Classic debuted in 1988 as the Aetna Challenge and was played at The Club at Pelican Bay until 1990. Gary Player , a fellow citizen of South Africa (like me), won the 1988 edition. And another compatriot, Harold Henning, finished second in the 1989 vintage, two strokes behind Gene Littler.
The tournament has featured at 12 golf courses since its inception, with the latest change in 2021. The organizers switched the venue to the Tiburon Black Course, designed by Australian Greg Norman. The Tiburon Black course is a par 72 layout reaching 6,945 yards off the back tees.
Our team particularly loves this course in Naples because of its idyllic location near beaches and plenty of sunshine in southwest Florida. However, be prepared; the Ritz Carlton is on the property, and staying here tends to come at a hefty price.
Trophy Hassan II
The Trophy Hassan II tournament is older than the PGA Tour Champions itself. The first event teed off in 1971, called the Moroccan Grand Prix, which saw Orville Moody defeat Jerry Heard by 2 strokes.
Prince Moulay Rachid hosts the event in honor of his father, Hassan II, and it is played at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. The tournament was removed from the schedule between 1986 to 1990 but returned in 1991 when Vijay Singh defeated the late Payne Stewart in a playoff.
The Royal Golf Dar Es Salam is situated on a 440-hectare estate, winding through cork oak forests, and is littered with lakes and bunkers.
Cologuard Classic
The Cologuard Classic is the third event on the annual calendar and is one of the newest editions of the Tour. It was launched in 2015 at the Omni Tucson National in Arizona as the Tuscon Conquistadores Classic. The name changed to its current form in 2018.
Marco Dawson is the first name on the silverware after bagging the inaugural title in 2015 by 2 strokes over Barty Bryant. The Omni Tucson National reaches 7,328 yards off the back tees with a total par rating of 73.
Hoag Classic
The first tee shot in the Hoag Classic was struck in 1995, but back then was known as the Toshiba Senior Classic. The name remained in 2005 when “senior” was dropped from the title and became the Toshiba Classic. Toshiba continued as the title sponsor until 2018 when Hoag took over.
The William F. Bell designed Newport Beach Country Club is the host golf course and has set the stage for several fierce battles since its inception. Bob Murphy and Jay Sigel entered the record books in 1997 when the duo went 9 holes in a playoff before the winner was decided.
Newport Country Club is a par 72 golf course which is not as long as some on tour, measuring 6618 yards off the Championship tees.
The Galleri Classic
The Galleri Classic entered the Tour Champions fray in 2023, holding its first outing at the Dinah Shore course at the Mission Hills Country Club, Coachella Valley, California. The Par 72 golf course played 7,112 yards for the Galleri on average.
David Toms surged to victory in the inaugural version of this tournament played in 2023, beating Steven Alker by 4 shots.
Invited Celebrity Classic
Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas, hosted the ClubCorp Classic in 2022, adding a new event to the Tour schedule. The event name changed to the Invited Celebrity Classic after the company rebranding in 2022.
The course measures 6973 yards off the black tees, and 71 is a par score. Scott Parel from Michigan was the first to get his hands on the trophy in the 2022 edition. Mark Hensby from Australia took the second iteration of the event in 2023 with a 54-hole score of 12 under par.
Mitsubishi Electric Classic
The PGA Tour Champions made the Mitsubishi Electric Classic a reality in 2013. However, its original title was the Greater Gwinnett Championship. Bernhard Langer won the inaugural event in 2013 by 3 strokes over Tom Lehman and Tom Pernice Jr.
TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia, has put on the spectacle since it teed off over a decade ago. The 27-hole facility was designed by “The Great White Shark,” Greg Norman. The Stables/ Meadows are the usual combination for tournament events, but it may change depending on the years.
The Meadows and Stables 18-hole combination totals 7322 yards off the back tees and is a par 72 layout.
Insperity Invitational
The Insperity Invitational has cemented its place as a mainstay on the annual sporting calendar in Houston. It started in 2004 as the Administaff Small Business Classic and immediately entertained us. Larry Nelson crawled his way back from 7 shots down to force a playoff with Hale Irwin.
Nelson bagged the title, and the tournament holds firm two decades on. Since Administaff changed their name in 2008, the event is now the Insperity Invitational. It was initially played at Augusta Pines, Texas, but is now hosted by The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.
The par 72 Tournament Course at Woodlands Country Club extends 7025 yards off the back tee. John Daly set the par 3 16th alight in the 1994 Shell Houston Open when he pured a 6 iron off the tee and drained the shot for a memorable ace.
Principal Charity Classic
The Principal Charity Classic resumes regulation tour play in June after back-to-back Majors in May. Des Moines, Iowa, has welcomed professionals with open arms since the event commenced in 2001 as the Allianz Championship.
Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines hosted the inaugural showing of the Principal Charity Classic. It moved twice between 2001 and 2012 before finding solace at the Wakonda Club, which has held the Classic since 2013. Wakonda totals 6,847 yards off the back tees and is a par 72.
Jim Thorpe won the first-ever Principal Charity Classic beating Gil Morgan by 2 strokes in 2001. Jay Haas has lifted the trophy three times, more than any of his peers.
American Family Insurance Championship
Tour Champions professionals stay in the midwest for the American Family Insurance Championship played at University Ridge Golf Club, Madison, Wisconsin. Steve Stricker is the tournament host, and 78 of the tour’s best players are penciled in on the tee sheet.
The Championship was born in 2016, and Kirk Triplett claimed a 2 shot victory over Bart Bryant and Mike Goodes. University Ridge is a par 72 Robert Trent Jones Jr design and is slightly lengthy for senior tour pros, stretching 7,259 yards.
The front nine is relatively open, while the back nine is lined with trees and demands course management from tee to green.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Open
After a stint in the midwest, the tour heads east to Upstate New York, where the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open awaits. En-Joie has gracefully hosted the event since its inception in 2007, where R.W. Eaks triumphed over Bruce Vaughan by 3 strokes.
En-Joie is a 7,030-yard track off the back tees, and 72 is a par score for the round. The course was originally designed and built by local businessman George F. Johnson, but upgrades were made in 1998 and 1999. The greens transformed from flat round greens into challenging large and undulated dance floors.
We particularly “enjoy” the En-Joie course for its local, friendly vibe and beautiful rolling hills. While it’s not nearly as polished as most of the courses on this tour, we found it to be one of the best for spectators, with free tickets and giveaways.
Boeing Classic
The Boeing Classic has become a permanent fixture on the PGA Tour Champions and Seattle sporting calendar. 2005 saw the first tee shot struck in the tournament when it was the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic.
David Eger claimed the inaugural trophy winning by 3 strokes over Tom Kite. However, in 2007, fans were treated to the largest contingent of players in a Tour Champions playoff. Seven players ended the tournament on 9 under par. Zimbabwean Denis Watson would eventually steal the show as he drained an eagle putt on the second playoff hole to bag the crown.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed Club at Snoqualmie Ridge has hosted the tournament since it launched, frequently challenging the Pros. The 7,264-yard layout with a par score of 72 suits long hitters given its wide fairways. It also treats you to spectacular mountain and water vistas.
Shaw Charity Classic
The Tour makes its way north to Calgary, Canada, in mid-August for the Shaw Charity Classic, a mainstay on the schedule since 2013. Although the course plays a par 72 for amateurs, they corrected the rating to a par 70 for the Shaw Charity Classic.
Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club has welcomed the tour since 2013, measuring 7,158 yards from the black tees. In addition, the course sits at 3,590 feet above sea level, adding extra yards to each shot. Rocco Mediate lifted the first trophy in 2013, obliterating the field by 7 strokes.
The Ally Challenge
Grand Blanc Township in Michigan is the venue for the Ally Challenge, one of the newer events on tour. The PGA Tour Champions arrived at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in 2018 when Paul Broadhurst became the first champion.
The 7,112-yard golf course is a par 72 layout designed by Joe Lee and is relatively long for senior tour players, and is lined with trees. This demands a combination of driving distance, fairways, and greens in regulation.
Ascension Charity Classic
The Ascension Charity Classic is another tournament in its infancy on tour. It teed off for the first time in 2021 when David Toms beat Dicky Pride in a playoff. The St Louis-based Norwood Hills has hosted the first two Ascension Charity Classics on their West course, which is no stranger to tournament golf.
Norwood Hills plays 6,992 yards, and 71 is considered a par score. The fairways are lined with trees and demand an accurate tee shot to attack the flag on approach. In addition, 5 lakes are scattered throughout the links and come into play for half the round.
Sanford International
The tour returns to the Midwest in September for the Sanford International, another relatively young event. 2018 saw the Sanford International debut, and Steve Stricker showed his class to defeat Tim Petrovic and Jerry Smith by 4 shots.
Minnehaha Country Club is the host venue, littered with water hazards and tree-lined fairways. It is not the longest golf course on tour, reaching 6,530 yards off the burgundy tees, but it does demand precision to walk away with a low round.
Pure Insurance Championship
As we enter the back end of the season, the Tour Champions journeys to the West Coast for the Pure Insurance Championship. The famed Pebble Beach is the host venue for the event, originally titled the First Tee Open. However, organizers have changed the name on five occasions.
The Pure Insurance Championship became the official title in 2017 and has remained since. Craig Stadler lifted the cup in the inaugural event in 2004, winning by 3 strokes over Jay Haas.
Constellation Furyk & Friends
The Constellation Furyk and Friends event kicked off in 2021 as a way for the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation to raise funds for at-risk children. Timuquana Country Club puts on the event, which was first won by Phil Mickelson in the 2020-21 season.
The Country Club is located a short distance from my base for two years when I was navigating the high seas. Timuquana measures 6,949 yards from the back tees and is a standard Par 72 layout. Finally, its tree-lined fairways leave little margin for error, demanding accuracy off the tee.
If you’re traveling with family, Furyk & Friends is one of our favorites to bring the kids. In 2023, the tournament went all out with food trucks, a petting zoo, free ice cream, and more!
SAS Championship
The SAS Championship has featured on the PGA Tour Champions since 2001, played at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. Bruce Lietzke won the inaugural outing and went back to back in 2002.
The 54-hole complex opts for the Meadow and Highlands combination of courses for the SAS, playing 7,237 yards and carrying a 72-par total.
Dominion Energy Charity Classic
The Dominion Energy Charity Classic is the first playoff round for the Charles Schwab Cup. The top 72 players on the money list will be invited to the no-cut event after the SAS Championship.
The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond has hosted the event since it teed off in 2016 when Scott McCarron bagged the title. The venue is dominated by tree-lined fairways and the odd water hazard, making accuracy vital for success.
Simmons Bank Championship
The top 54 golfers on the money list after the Dominion Energy Charity Classic progress to the Simmons Bank Championship. The penultimate event of the year is hosted by Pleasant Valley Country Club, a parkland golf course with lightning-quick greens.
The tournament has a new headline sponsor this year after the partnership with TimberTech expired at the end of 2023.
Charles Schwab Cup Championship
The entire season has built up to this moment, where the remaining top 36 players are the only ones invited. The tour travels to Phoenix Country Club, Arizona, for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
Puerto Rico, Oklahoma, and California all hosted the event before its switch to Arizona in 2014. The initial Charles Schwab Cup Championship was called the New York Life Champions played in Dorado, Puerto Rico, with Mike Hill winning the first two editions.
The parkland-styled Phoenix Country Club has hosted the cup since 2017, measuring 6,764 yards, and it is a par 71.

The penultimate PGA Tour Champions major hits our screens in mid-July 2024 when the Kaulig Companies Championship returns to Firestone Country Club. The South Course or the “Monster” as it is colloquially known, is the chosen track.
It measures 7,400 yards off the Championship tees and is a par 70, with only one par 5 on each nine. The course is best suited to long hitters, and Jerry Kelly will attempt to win here for the third time in four years.
The inaugural Kaulig Companies Championship went ahead in 1983 at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio. Miller Barber was the first to etch his name onto the trophy defeating Gene Littler by one stroke.
Senior Open Championship
Golf Course: Carnoustie Links, Scotland Tournament Purse: $2,850,000 Dates: Jul 25 – Jul 28, 2024
The Senior Open Championship returns to Carnoustie for the first time since 2016. Englishman Paul Broadhurst walked away victorious on that weekend. This is the third time that ‘Car-nasty hosts the best in the seniors game, and Alex Čejka will look to defend the title he won at Royal Porthcawl in 2023.
Gale-force winds and rain always remain a threat. We will see plenty of punch shots on approach and bump and runs around the dance floor. The first official Senior Open Championship was played at Turnberry in 1987 as Neil Coles walked away with a one-stroke victory.

The WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am came to a close late last week. It was a another terrific week of golf, fellowship, and a whole lot of fun. The field was fortunate to have a nice week of weather and the courses offered some great playing conditions. It marked the ninth straight year the event has featured at least 48 teams. For the first time ever the tournament would feature two completely separate divisions of play. The sold-out 50-team field would be split in two divisions of twenty-five. Divisions were created by random draw during the 2024 WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am entry lottery.

The 2024 Wisconsin PGA Las Vegas Pro-Am supported by The Suter Ward Group At Morgan Stanley , TaylorMade Golf and adidas Golf came to a close on Wednesday afternoon. It was another fantastic week in Sin City, as 50 teams enjoyed some great weather and golf. The 36-hole leaders in each division held on tight as they were challenged throughout the final round. In the end they did just enough to claim the overall victories. In the Diamond Division the North Shore Country Club fivesome of Joaquin Diaz, Keith Llanas, John Francis, Dave Riebau and Chad Sloden would post rounds of 134, 134 and 128 for a 42-under-par 396 total. The score would be good enough to hold off the PinSeekers DeForest team and the Blackwolf Run squads by four shots. In the Wednesday Diamond Division 2 net event at Cascata Golf Course , the New Berlin Hills Golf Course team would take home the win with an 18-under-par 126 total. Claiming the top spot in the low pro game was Andy Hansen. On the other side of the draw the Hearts Division would see things come down to the wire. The Bisbee's Golf Center team of Jeff Bisbee, Buzz Holland, James Hanson, John Durkin and JB Moseley would hold on for a one-shot victory over the Ryan Helminen led Ridgeway CC team. The Bisbee's squad would shoot rounds of 121, 128 and 141 for a 50-under-par 390 total. Grabbing the daily Hearts Division team win in the 1,2,3 net format at Las Vegas CC on Wednesday was the Golf Galaxy Appleton team with an 18-under-par 134. It was good enough for a big five shot win. In the low pro game, it would Helminen once again leading the way with 27 stableford points. Congratulations to all the big winners on and off the course. A big thank you goes out to our attendees, event partners, and host facilities that helped make it another great trip. We couldn't do it without you. We look forward to 2025 and putting together another memorable trip. The final day of the WPGA Las Vegas Pro-Am is underway. The Diamond Division is taking on Cascata Golf Course and the Hearts Division is just off the strip at Las Vegas CC. Day 2 featured another great day of golf, laughs and fellowship. With light winds and sunshine, the groups had the green light to go low. Leading the way in the Diamond Division at Las Vegas CC was the team of Joaquin Diaz, Keith Llanas, Chad Sloden, John Francis and Dave Riebau. They were able to post an 18-under-par 134 in the 1,2,3 net best ball event. The score also pushed them into the overall Diamond Division lead at 26-under-par. Over at Southern Highlands Golf Club the Horseshoe Bay Golf Club crew of Jamie Christianson, Grant Wabnitz, Jason Hogue, Andrew Morel and Dave Jilot would get the job done with a 19-under-par 125 in the one net, one gross format. With back-to-back second place finishes the Bisbee's Golf Center team leads by two shots in the overall hearts contest. Grabbing the top spot in the low pro games on Tuesday were Diaz with 23 points at Las Vegas CC, and Michael Crowley with an very impressive 30 points at Southern Highlands. Most years, the focus of this week's release of the Wisconsin PGA tournament schedule would be on the Wisconsin State Open and its historic journey to Minocqua Country Club, the northernmost venue to ever host 104-year-old championship. Or the Wisconsin State Women's Open. Or the Wisconsin State Senior Open. This year, however, it would be difficult to overlook the WPGA Match Play Championship or, more specifically, where it will be played.
Four Kohler courses in four days ... and other highlights of a challenging 2024 Wisconsin PGA tournament schedule

Most years, the focus of this week's release of the Wisconsin PGA tournament schedule would be on the Wisconsin State Open and its historic journey to Minocqua Country Club, the northernmost venue to ever host 104-year-old championship now sponsored by the Suter Ward Group of Morgan Stanley.
Or the Sentry Wisconsin State Women's Open, which will visit Meadowbrook CC in Racine — a four-time host of the men's State Open — for the first time.
Or the Wisconsin State Senior Open, which — one year after reaching its 104-golfer capacity at Maple Bluff CC in Madison for the first time — should again draw a deep field at North Shore GC in Menasha. North Shore is no stranger to big events, having hosted the 2016 State Amateur and 2018 State Open.
This year, however, it would be difficult to overlook the WPGA Match Play Championship or, more specifically, where it will be played.
After seven years of starting in May and being finished over the course of the summer, the WPGA Match Play will be played May 13-16 on all four courses in the Destination Kohler portfolio . Qualifying and first-round matches will be played May 13 on the Irish Course at Whistling Straits in Haven while second- and third-round matches will be played May 14 on the Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler. Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held May 15 on the River Course at Blackwolf Run with the championship match set for May 16 on the Straits Course at Whistling Straits, site of the 2021 Ryder Cup.
"For Destination Kohler to give our section professionals this unique opportunity is something special," WPGA assistant executive director Chris Hoel said in the release, noting it is the third time the championship will utilize all four courses but the first time since 2015. "Four different world-class courses over four days, what a motivation to keep winning matches."
And what a way for the WPGA to kick off a 2024 tournament season that will continue through Oct. 14 and the Fall Pro-Pro Better Ball, which will mark the WPGA's first visit to Sand Valley GR near Nekoosa for a section event.
Other highlights of the 2024 schedule include:
The 104th State Open being played Aug. 19-21 at Minocqua CC, which produced an epic eight-hole playoff at the 2018 State Amateur between eventual champion Harrison Ott of Brookfield and Thomas Longbella of Chippewa Falls. Both PGA Tour Americas golfers finished in the top 10 last year at SentryWorld in Stevens Point — Ott finishing second to Kenosha's Cameron Huss and Longbella seventh. The State Open will also have the same registration deadline (July 8) for exempt players and those seeking to get there through one of the seven qualifying sites.
The Wisconsin State Senior Open , which was almost played without its defending champion, Jim Schuman, when the field filled to capacity for the first time, will guarantee spots for an unspecified number of top finishers from the 2023 State Senior Open as well as "other top senior players" who register before July 1. It is Sept. 3-4 at North Shore.
The WPGA Professional Championship will be played Sept. 9-10 at Wisconsin Club CC in Milwaukee (the former Brynwood CC). Ryan Helminen won the second of his four WPGA titles there in 2012.
The National Car Rental Wisconsin Assistant PGA Professional Championship will be held at Reedsburg CC with all 36 holes contested July 15, the same day that the first 18 holes of the Wisconsin Senior PGA Professional Championship will be played at the same venue. Two-time Senior PGA Professional runner-up Michael Crowley will look to become the first golfer to win assistants and senior title at the same venue during his career after winning the assistants title there in 2001.
The most popular event on the WPGA schedule will again be the first one — the sold-out Las Vegas Pro-Am , which is March 10-14 featuring 50 five-player teams representing more than 30 golf facilities.
"The state of Wisconsin is lucky to have nationally recognized major championship venues," Hoel said. "The top players in the world have roamed their fairways and, fortunately, Wisconsin PGA tournament participants will get the same opportunity in 2024."

Masters 2024 — leaderboard, tee times, how to watch
The sun is shining and the winds are gusting at Augusta National for the second round of the Masters on Friday.
Bryson DeChambeau was the 18-hole leader after shooting an opening-round 65. It was DeChambeau's lowest round at Augusta in his career.
But lurking close behind is Scottie Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champion, who shot a bogey-free 66. Scheffler tees off at 1:48 p.m. ET Friday as he continues his pursuit for a second green jacket.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods shot an opening-round 73. The five-time Masters champion is trying to extend his Masters consecutive cuts-made streak to 24.

Woods goes out with an even par front nine
(Photo: Andrew Redington/Getty Images)
Tiger Woods shoots an even-par 36 on the front nine in his second round.
Three birdies. Three bogeys. Three pars.
Once again, Woods' scrambling and wedge play kept this round afloat.
He's currently at 1-over-par making the turn, T35 and in the cut line.
Homa shoots 2-under front 9
A solid 2-under-par front nine for Max Homa.
Two birdies and a massive par save on the difficult 5th hole.
Homa makes the turn tied for the lead at 7-under-par for the tournament alongside Bryson DeChambeau.
Putting Woods' 3 through 8 stretch in perspective
This is the 98th round of Tiger Woods' Masters career.
It's the first time he's played the stretch of holes 3 through 8 without making a single par (three birdies, three bogeys today).
Birdie. Tiger.
(Photo: Jamie Squire / Getty Images)
After bogeying the 7th hole, Tiger Woods responds with a birdie on the par-5 8th hole.
Once again, Tiger's wedge play is solid, as evidenced by sticking his third shot close to the hole.
Woods has three birdies (so far) on the front nine and is 1-over-par for the tournament.
How to play the par-5 2nd hole on Friday
The par-5 2nd is still playing below par today — nearly half a stroke under, actually. But it’s also a pretty good model for what Augusta National is going to give this afternoon, and how the players cannot try to take more.
It’s simply not an eagle hole today — the pin position is middle left, guarded by a bunker. If you’re in the left of the fairway the trees are going to block your access to it with your second shot. If you’re in the right, you still have probably 225 to 250 yards, with these 30-mile-per-hour gusts pushing everything around.
I watched Tiger Woods, Max Homa and a few others shoot for the right, then give themselves a long putt or chip across the green for their third shot. But Sahith Theegala and Jordan Spieth laid up, giving themselves something closer to 100 yards in but from an angle that let them attack the flag stick. Spieth birdied it as a result.
It's time to pay attention to Nicolai Højgaard
Who knows how long Nicolai Højgaard can keep this up, but it's time to give proper attention to a really exciting young player weathering tough conditions to stay two shots back of the lead. It's a loaded group of Masters debutants, but all the attention was on Ludvig Åberg and Wyndham Clark. But the 23-year-old Dane is one of the best young players in golf and was on Europe's winning 2023 Ryder Cup team. He even won the DP World Tour Championship and finished second at Torrey Pines. He's really good.
But few thought of him as somebody to watch at his Masters debut. He hasn't done well at majors (yet), and he's really struggled in the last six events. But here he is, right in the mix. He finished round one at 5-under, but maybe the more impressive thing is Højgaard bogeying 5 and 6 today and bouncing back with birdies on 9 and 10. This shows he can withstand some adversity here, and he has the talent to compete with anyone.
Tiger turns the clock back to chip in on 6 🐦
Getty Images
T37: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 6
It remains compelling viewing for those following Woods. Having got caught in the fairway bunkers on the 5th, Woods couldn't quite recover to salvage par.
Then Tiger chips in a classic from the fringe between green and bunker on the 6th, to keep level.
It's clearly a battle, but it's still a lot of fun to see one of the greats chase something special.
Bryson is back out there
T1: Bryson DECHAMBEAU (-7) 1st tee
The overnight leader is back on the course - and he has smashed a 305yd opener down the middle of the fairway.
Let's see if DeChambeau can deliver the ideal back-up to that wonderful first-round 65. It's certainly a promising start.
Promising start could reap big rewards for 'clutch' Homa
Max Homa is as well-known for his major struggles as any top player. He didn't get his first career major top-10 until last July's Open Championship, and he's never been better than 43rd at Augusta.
Today? He's co-leader at the Masters.
He ended yesterday before the stoppage at 5-under, but more importantly he was one of the few in the field to not get crushed by the wind in the morning restart. He birdied 16 and 17 with perfect iron shots, bogeyed 18 and ended the round at 6-under.
Now four holes into round two, Homa looks as dialed as we've ever seen him at a major. He's had birdie putts on all four holes and made two difficult ones to become co-leader at 7-under.
The problem with Homa is never about how he does in contention. He's actually quite clutch. The issue is ejected on Thursday and Friday. This is a massive step forward for the No.11 player in the world.
Fabulous putt takes Homa tied top 🐦
T1: Max HOMA (-7) -2 thru 4
We finally have a name alongside Bryson DeChambeau on top of the leaderboard and what a way to do it.
Max Homa sinks a 34ft putt on the par-3 4th to go two-under for his second round and join DeChambeau on -7.
What a beauty of a putt.
Encouraging trend for Homa
Max Homa 's first 20 holes at The Masters over the last four years:
Hojgaard suffers consecutive drops 🔻
T6: Nicolai HOJGAARD (-3) +2 thru 6
Having picked up that annoying bogey on the 5th, Hojgaard then sees an 18ft putt roll past the right of the cup to make it successive dropped shots.
The Dane is now two-over for his second round and losing ground on the leaders.
That was short-lived 🔻
T27: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 4
Oh Tiger. He chips past the hole on the fourth and then watches his 6ft putt for par roll just under the hole.
That's a blow after his birdie on the third.
Tiger loves the third
That is Tiger Woods' 24th career birdie at the 3rd hole at Augusta National and his 23rd birdie there since 2000.
That is second to only one player: Phil Mickelson (30).
Woods gets moving 🐦
T27: Tiger WOODS (E) -1 thru 3
Now that is a cheer. Woods plays the par-4 3rd perfectly, his approach leaving a 9ft birdie putt.
Woods reads the left-to-right break to pick up his first shot on his second round, having gone close at the previous hole.
That record 24th consecutive Masters' cut moves a little closer.
Homa rejoins Scheffler on -6 🐦
T2: Max HOMA (-6) -1 thru 2
Homa is continuing to impress here. It's a comfy birdie on the par-5 2nd, which is playing short for most so far. And with that, Homa is level with Scheffler.
Still noticeable how gusty the wind is, and that Augusta is still holding onto some of its slower pace due to the moisture. But it will dry out and quicken up eventually if the rain holds off.
Hojgaard misses from four feet 🔻
T4: Nicolai HOJGAARD (-4) +1 thru 5
That's a frustrating one for Hojgaard, who manages to miss a 4ft putt for par on the par-4 5th.
The ball rims out agonizingly and with that, the Dane drops to tied-fourth, three shots off the lead.
Birdie chance goes begging for Woods
T35: Tiger WOODS (+1) E thru 2
How Tiger would dearly love to pick up some shots, and it looks like his first birdie of his second round could arrive at the 2nd.
A lovely third takes him to within 11ft and a genuine birdie chance - but his putt stops just short and Woods will have to wait.
If he's to make sure of his record-breaking cut, he could do with picking up one or two over this round.
Up and down for Davis 🔻
T6: Cameron DAVIS (-3) E thru 9
It's been a messy end to the front nine of Davis' second round.
A lovely tee shot on the 6th left an 11ft putt for a birdie that the Australian tucked away, but hitting the bunker on his third shot at the 7th led to a double bogey on the par-4.
Sinking a 30ft putt for a birdie on the par-5 8th was a lovely response but his second on the 9th saw him back in the sand and he couldn't salvage par.
That drops Davis off Willett's clubhouse pace and he's now tied-sixth.
